Full textLet Σ be a compact oriented surface with one boundary component and let M denote the mapping class group of Σ. By considering the action of M on the fundamental group of Σ it is possible to define different filtrations of M together with some homomorphisms on each term of the filtrations. The aim of this thesis is twofold. First, we study two filtrations of M : the « Johnson-Levine filtration » introduced by Levine and « the alternative Johsnon filtration » introduced recently by Habiro and Massuyeau. The definition of both filtrations involve a handlebody bounded by Σ. We refer to these filtrations as ≪ Johnson-type filtrations » and the corresponding homomorphisms have referred to as « Johnson-type homomorphisms » by their analogy with the original Johnson filtration and the usual Johnson homomorphisms. We provide a comparison of the Johnson filtration with the Johnson-Levine filtration at the level of the monoid of homology cobordisms of Σ. We also provide a comparison of the alternative Johnson filtration with the Johnson-Levine filtration and the Johnson filtration at the level of the mapping class group. Secondly, we study the relationship between the « Johnson-type homomorphisms » and the functorial extension of the universal perturbative invariant of 3-manifolds (the Le-Murakami-Ohtsuki invariant or LMO invariant). This functorial extension is calling the LMO functor and it takes values in a category of diagrams. We prove that the « Johnson-type homomorphisms » is in the tree reduction of the LMO functor. In particular, this provides a new reading grid of the tree reduction of the LMO functor

Full textLithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries have been considered as the solution of choice for energy storage in numerous applications. Li4Ti5O12 (LTO) compound is an alternative to the widely used graphite, as a negative electrode material. For potential high temperature applications, the study of interfacial layers formed on top of LTO electrodes in such conditions is a necessary step. The formation of such surface layers is commonly observed in lithium-ion batteries and their properties are critical for maintaining good batteries performances. Therefore, LTO electrodes surfaces were mainly analyzed by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and complementary measurements were performed by Scanning Auger Microscopy (SAM) for the acquisition of elemental mappings and by Time-of-Flight Secondary Ions Spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) for depth profile analysis. Surface analysis results were systematically linked to electrochemical data. The influence of several parameters was investigated for LTO electrodes cycled versus lithium. The comparison of surface layers formed during the first cycle at room temperature, 60 °C and 85 °C showed that higher cycling temperatures induce the formation of a thicker layer. The use of a VC-containing electrolyte accelerates the formation of a thicker layer since the first cycle, less prone to dissolution during delithiation and susceptible to enhance the capacity retention for long cycling. Substitution of LiPF6 lithium salt by LiTFSI leads to the formation of thinner layer, which is mainly due to a lower amount of deposited LiF. Similar results are obtained for the substitution of EC:DMC solvants by PC:EMC. Furthermore, the higher the specific surface of the electrode carbonaceous additive is, the higher the share of LiF in the interfacial layer composition is, even if its thickness remains similar. Finally, the behavior of electrode/electrolyte interfaces was studied in a LiMn2O4 /Li4Ti5O12 full cell. Interfacial layers are formed on the surface of both electrodes. Nevertheless, the layer on the positive electrode is thinner than the one on the negative electrode. Their composition are similar except for MnF2 compound, coming from LiMn2O4 dissolution at the positive electrode, which is only detected on the negative electrode. This work could be continued with the study of electrodes based on coated LTO particles. Moreover, a greater synergy between three characterization techniques used in this work could be promoted

Full textThis thesis work is part of an industrial issue aiming to achieve micrometer-thick deposits of lithium battery electrode materials by electrophoretic deposition. Due to constraints related to the large-scale use of organic solvent suspensions of ceramic materials, the EPD (ElectroPhoretic Deposition) process considered in the context of this work involves colloidal suspensions of nanoparticles in an aqueous medium, as well as pulsed polarization to limit the harmful water electrolysis phenomenon in obtaining dense deposits. The objective of this study is to optimize the EPD process in terms of deposition yield and quality, using model suspensions of silica nanoparticles. Thus, the synthesis conditions of these particles obtained by the Stöber approach, were optimized to get geometric and physico-chemical characteristics (zeta potential, isoelectric point) very similar to the industrial materials of interest. The deposition kinetics by EPD were simulated through a first finite element model and compared to experimental data on both monodisperse silica nanoparticle suspensions and polydisperse suspensions of industrial electrode materials.A second electrochemical model allowed simulating the evolution of pH at the electrode surface in pulsed mode and providing a better understanding of the process. The hypothesis of an extended mechanism of the DLVO theory including a decrease in pH resulting from water oxidation was highlighted in the low-frequency range of the pulsed regime. Furthermore, it was shown that this acidification can be limited by decreasing the duty cycle, thus increasing the relaxation period of the potential in pulsed mode, and operating at high frequencies (f > 1000 Hz).Finally, particular attention was focused on the cracking of deposits that occurs during the drying stage. The use of polydisperse model suspensions or drying conditions at high relative humidity improved the quality of the deposits without eliminating the cracks. However, incorporating an anionic polyelectrolyte (xanthan gum) that is not adsorbed on the surface of silica nanoparticles or a neutral polymer (polyethylene glycol, PEG) having a high affinity for silica induced a partial decrease of the cracks

Full textLeo is a collection of short stories linked by the character, Leo. The stories follow Leo through different times, settings, and episodes in his life. In this collection, in the quest to understand the meaning of the self and individual, Leo attempts to learn the difference between good and bad and life and death. The stories feature odd family members, troubled relationships, and self-destructive coping mechanisms. Written in different narrative styles, the collection attempts to create a marriage between content and form with special attention to language. My stories hope to explore questions about cultural identity, emotional stability, and loss of innocence.
Beyene, Dereje, and Befkadu Degefa. "Adaptive Antenna Arrays for Satellite Mobile Communication Systems." Thesis, Linnaeus University, School of Computer Science, Physics and Mathematics, 2010. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:lnu:diva-191.
Full textAdaptive antenna arrays have a great importance in reduction of the effect of interference and increase the capacity for the mobile satellite communication. Interference and multipath fading remain a main problem for reception of signals. These two problems obviously affect the overall capacity. Adaptive antenna arrays in the handheld mobile apparatus will be the solution for the above two problems.
Satellite mobile communication is one of the growing fields in the communication area where terrestrial infrastructures are unable or ineffective to supply. Maritime, aeronautical and land mobile are some of the applications. During natural disasters where ground services are stopped, mobile satellite communications has great importance. Following the hurricane season, the Asian Tsunami and the devastating Haiti earthquake, mobile satellite communications had played a great role to fill the communication gaps. The satellites can be tracked automatically by adaptive antenna array when it moves in its orbital plane.
In this thesis the methods that how the adaptive antenna array combats interferers is presented and simulated using MATLAB software. The performance of the adaptive antenna array is evaluated by simulating the directivity pattern of the antenna and Mean Square Error (MSE) graph for different scenario like Signal to Interference Noise ratio (SINR), number of iterations, antenna array elements and convergence factor (μ), assuming the signals are coming from different Direction of Arrival (DOA).

Full textThe most of lao classic tales are the epic poems. They are principally intended to be read in front of the public, in the evenings. There are more than one hundred stories in palmleaves manuscript forms which are engraved with the old lao characters. Some of these manuscripts have been printed in modern lao characters since1957, especially by the literary committee, the royal academy and the lao national library. The study of these origin tales shows that they were inspired by the indian literature, the yuan literature, the old indochinese fund literary, the siamese literature and the pannasajataka, the collection of apocryphal jataka coming from the mon civilization. The lao classic purely tales which have the original characters, are the historic stories. Although these tales belonged to the laic literature in which "the marvellous" dominated, they are impregnated by the buddhist teaching and the developped topics turned around the dharma and the karma. It concerns, in fact, that the popular buddhism finds to inculcate the basic precepts for the large population. Since 1975, date of the lao people's democratic republic instauration, the most well know tales are recuperated by new government to illustrate the political topics, as the classic tales were widespread for the buddhist teaching by the monks in the past

Full textTässä diplomityössä on tutkittu matalatehoisten, integroitujen low-dropout -regulaattorien rakenteita sekä suunnitteluhaasteita. Työssä tutkittiin ja vertailtiin erilaisia toteutustopologioita. Low-dropout -regulaattoreita käytetään monenlaisissa sovelluksissa ulottuen korkeatehoisista järjestelmistä akkukäyttöisiin mobiililaitteisiin. Low-dropout -regulaattorien etuihin kuuluvat yksinkertaisuus, matala kohina sekä pieni tulon ja lähdön välinen jännite-ero. Modernien low-dropout regulaattorien pääasialliset suunnitteluhaasteet kohdistuvat korkean virtahyötysuhteen saavuttamiseen pienentämällä lepovirtaa. Lisäksi regulaattorien kompensointi on haasteellista kun lähtövirran vaihtelualue on laaja. Työssä on keskitytty suunnittelemaan integroitu regulaattori, jolla on laaja lähtövirran vaihtelualue, hyvä regulointikyky sekä korkea virtahyötysuhde. Topologiavertailun perusteella regulaattori suunniteltiin käyttäen AB-luokan virhevahvistinta, jonka hyöty on biasvirran ja lähtövirran riippumattomuus toisistaan.

Full textProblematic: Like many developing countries, the quality of services provided in Lao hospitals, especially in remote regions, is often criticized. It is therefore interesting to examine "successful" cases hospitals that are considered by many as models for the rest country. Such is the case of two hospitals in the province of Vientiane, whose evolution was supported by Luxembourg Cooperation. Methodology: This study is a multiple case study took place in two hospitals (Maria Teresa and Vang Vieng). It aimed to study organizational factors associated with the perception by health workers and pregnant or postpartum, of the performance of obstetric care. Individual interviews, based on themes derived from the conceptual framework of the study were performed. Results: Analyses of the results show a great satisfaction with the services offered by both, hospital workers and users, even if some expected services are not routinely offered. The main factors associated with the perceived functionality of the two hospitals are related to two aspects: an investment in human resources and an investment in the accessibility of the target population to obstetric services. The investment in human resources focused on strategies aiming the improvement of the expertise detained by all, clinicians and non-clinicians, the recognition of the work done by the staff and the creation of a pleasant atmosphere for team work. Investment in accessibility focused on geographical and economic barriers, as well as on providing information on the importance of perinatal care to the community. Conclusion: An investment in human resources and in the accessibility to services allows regional hospitals of the Lao PDR to become functional and efficient. Key words: Obstetric care, Luxembourg cooperation, quality of care, human resources, RDP Lao.

Full textDuring the eighties a new type of financial transaction started to emerge on an increasing basis. It was the so called “leveraged buyout” also known as the LBO. In the US private equity firms made it to the headlines in financial media from engaging in leveraged buyouts with small equity investments and large amounts of borrowed capital, their targets where large solid multinational corporations. Much has happened since the eighties. Back then leveraged buyouts where often associated with terms such as “Slash and Burn” or “Buy, Flip and Strip” often meaning hostile takeovers and huge layoffs. Today private equity firms focus more on active ownership, fast decisions without the bureaucracy of the stock market and long term value creation in order to profit from their buyouts.
As private equity firms today invest tremendous amounts of capital through their private equity funds. Leveraged buyouts have become one of the major areas within investment banking. Even though the LBO is a common transaction it is often hard to find models used for valuation of such a deal. Private equity funds and investment banks all have their own valuation models but these are regarded as strictly confidential and seldom revealed to the public. Therefore the creation and publication of an LBO valuation model should be of great interest for everyone aiming at a future career within private equity, corporate finance or investment banking.
This thesis derives a complete LBO valuation model including a framework for finding a suitable LBO target. The LBO valuation model is created in cooperation with the debt capital markets department at one of the leading investment banks in the Nordic region. The framework is based on a qualitative study conducted on seven of the most distinguished private equity firms active in Sweden. In order to show how the LBO valuation model and the framework works, both are applied on the retail company Björn Borg listed on NASDAQ OMX. To verify the accuracy of the framework, calculated return from the model is analyzed and compared to the indications given by the framework.
