Abstract The (quasi)-consensus of interpreters that gives books VII and VIII of the Politics a logical and chronological priority to books IV-VI and that claims that book VII advocates for an aristocratic regime must be abandoned. In fact, these last two books deal with questions which the legislator must know, but which fall short of any constitutional consideration. An image found in Book VII is illuminating: this book deals with the best conditions for life in the city and Aristotle compares it to the material that the craftsman best arranges before giving his product its form. Prior for us, these considerations are therefore posterior by nature to the constitutional analyzes of books IV-VI. In light of the Aristotelian doctrine of two different kinds of priority, we can say that the manuscripts, which place books VII and VIII at the end of the Politics, adopt an Aristotelian order.

Para considerar o livre-arbítrio, Agostinho deve mobilizar concepções já estabelecidas sobre a natureza divina, sobre a natureza do mal e também sobre a natureza da alma humana. À medida que tais concepções se modificam no pensamento do autor, o livre-arbítrio assume contornos diversos até obter sua forma mais acabada, na qual se revela como raiz do mal moral e também como essencialmente viciado. Este artigo tem o objetivo de analisar as tramas conceituais supostas na concepção de livre-arbítrio, evidenciando a lógica interna no movimento envolvendo a conversão de Agostinho ao cristianismo.

Julius Pollux, orateur et lexicographe du IIe siècle ap. J. C., né à Naucratis, colonie grecque de l’Égypte, est connu comme l’auteur d’un dictionnaire du grec classique, l’Onomasticon, où il adopte un classement par matière. Ce dictionnaire en 10 livres est une source majeure pour l’histoire des jeux grécoromains, qu’il décrit à plusieurs reprises, dans une section du livre IX (94-129) et aussi dans le livre VI dédié au symposium pour les jeux du banquet grec (énigmes et cottabe) et dans le livre VII pour les jeux de hasard (dés, pions). En définitive, le dictionnaire de Pollux répond au souci de transmettre à tous les membres de l’élite intellectuelle de l’empire, l’euglôttia, le bon choix des mots en vue de la maîtrise de la langue attique, mais au même temps il permet de connaître des détails de la culture ludique ancienne autrement perdus à jamais tels que l’ergonomie des jeux, l’âge et le sexe des participants, parfois même les comptines récitées par les enfants.

Abstract:
The composition of the Book VII of « Roman Antiquities », dealing with three consulates (from 493 to 490), is characterized by a diegetic deceleration at the same time external, intrinsic and internal. Devoting nearly two thirds of the Book to the year 491, with the lawsuit against the patrician Coriolanus, Dionysius stresses the importance of this decisive constitutional stage. Thus Dionysius registers his own speech as a historian within an active perspective, which is also exposed through a second characteristic of the composition of Book VII, namely, the great number of passages which, while deviating from the chronological account of the facts, constitute a network of «ingressions » into the historical matter. Both structural aspects reveal what is at stake for Denys when writing history.

Abstract: The Draft Common Frame of Reference (DCFR) obscures the subject matter of restitution for wrongs. Whereas claims for a reasonable fee for the wrongful use of an asset are dealt with in Book VII (Unjustified enrichment), claims for recovery of profit obtained by wrongdoing are dealt with in Book VI (Non-contractual liability arising out of damage to another). According to the Comments, recovery of profit pursuant to Article VI.-6:101 (4) is based on a fiction that the defendant’s profit corresponds to the plaintiff’s economic loss. The article argues that this fiction is not only apt to obscure the analysis of legally relevant principles and values underlying recovery of profit but also makes it debatable whether and to what extent Article VI.-6:101 (4) realistically can be viewed as recognition of the principle that the profits made from a civil wrong shall not be retained by the wrongdoer. Furthermore, the article argues that VI.-6:101 (4) takes the form of a ‘statutory’ short cut that does not fit well with the other provisions in Book VI and that this raises questions that neither the Model Rules nor the Comments analyse. The best solution might be to take the subject matter of VI.-6:101 (4), apart from said fiction, from Book VI and transfer it to Book VII, thereby laying the foundation for a systematic and comprehensive treatment of restitution for wrongs. Résumé: Le DCFR ne clarifie pas la matière de la réparation pour dommages causés. Alors que les demandes en dédommagement raisonnable pour usage illicite d’actifs sont traités au Livre VII (enrichissement sans cause), les demandes en recouvrement de profits obtenus illicitement sont traités au Livre VI (responsabilité délictuelle pour dommage causé à autrui). Selon l’Exposé des Motifs, le recouvrement de profits est basé, conformément à l’article 6 :101 (4) du Livre VI, sur la fiction selon laquelle le profit obtenu par le défendeur correspond à la perte économique subie par le demandeur. L’auteur de l’article expose que cette fiction non seulement obscurcit l’analyse des valeurs et principes légaux pertinents qui sont à la base de la notion de recouvrement de profits, mais la rend également contestable si, et dans la mesure où l’article 6 :101 (4) du livre VI peut-être réellement considéré comme une reconnaissance du principe selon lequel les profits obtenus par un délit civil ne seront pas conservés par l’auteur du délit. De plus, l’auteur de l’article estime que l’article 6 :101 (4) du Livre VI prend la forme d’un raccourci ‘statutaire’ qui ne s’accorde pas avec les autres dispositions du Livre VI, ce qui soulève des questions que ni les Règles Modèles, ni l’Exposé des Motifs n’analysent. La meilleure solution pourrait consister à extraire la matière traitée à l’article 6 :101 (4) du Livre VI, hormis la fiction indiquée plus haut, et la transférer au Livre VII, pour assurer ainsi le fondement d’un traitement systématique et compréhensible de la réparation des dommages.

Le livre vii de la periegese n'est pas une simple description de l'achaie, mais accorde une place importante a l'histoire, aux mythes et aux pratiques religieuses de chaque cite. La presentation de pausanias n'est certes ni objective ni exhaustive, comme en temoignent les lacunes ou les erreurs que fait apparaitre la confrontation avec d'autres sources, litteraires, epigraphiques, numismatiques ou archeologiques. Le periegete apparait cependant comme l'auteur d'une formule originale de narration, qui le conduit a nous transmettre des traditions peu connues mais souvent vraisemblables, dont le choix nous revele en outre sa personnalite et les gouts de ses lecteurs, au iie siecle ap j. CBook vii of pausanias' description of greece deals with achaea but it is not just a simple description of achaea. Much of the book is given over to the history, the myth, and the religious practices of each city he visited in greece. Pausanias did not want to present an exhaustive history of the region with a great objectivity and, as a matter of fact we can point out quite serious gaps and faults in his book when we compare it with other texts dealing with literature, epigraphy, numismatics or archaeology. Nevertheless he has been original in his work when he has dug up the little known traditions, which he called the notable ones and which come across as being true. Moreover the fact that he was selective to illustrate old lost traditions shows that he was someone who had a dep interest in the ancient glories of greece and through his book we get a real taste of what the people of the 2nd century a. Abstract:
Cette thèse de doctorat, réalisée sous la direction du professeur V. Zarini, consiste en un travail d'édition, de traduction et de commentaire du septième des huit livres d'une épopée latine de l'Antiquité tardive intulée la Johannide. Ce livre 7, en hexamètres dactyliques, a été composé par le grammaticus Flauius Cresconius C/Gorippus. Au livre 7 de la Johannide, véritable épopée à dimension historique et panégyrique du VIe siècle, qui rapporte, en huit livres, la tentative de reconquête byzantine de l'Afrique par le général Jean sous Justinien, sont contés les événements qui se sont déroulés entre l'été 547 et l'été 548, quand Jean essuya une lourde défaite et commença à préparer la victoire finale du livre suivant. Notre thèse, commencée en 2018, vise, à la suite de travaux concernant les autres livres de la Johannide depuis 1983, à proposer l'édition des 542 hexamètres du livre 7, leur traduction et leur commentaire, en mettant en lumière les enjeux historiques, politiques, idéologiques mais aussi littéraires de cette œuvre atypique, entre épopée virgilienne et carolingienne, à la croisée des genres.Il nous revenait de colliger les leçons du manuscrit Triuultianus (T) 686 ainsi que les conjectures des éditions préexistantes. Notre commentaire rend compte de nos choix d'ecdotique et les justifie. Nous avons réalisé la traduction de ce livre et nous expliquons la portée historique et politique de chaque vers. Puisque le texte est avant tout l'œuvre d'un poète, notre commentaire fait la part belle à la dimension littéraire voire métalittéraire des vers. Nous tentons de proposer une étude approfondie des remplois et réécritures dans les vers.En introduction, nous avons situé le livre 7 de la Johannide dans l'économie générale du poème. Nous avons rappelé les éléments biographiques concernant Corippe et ce qu'il convient de savoir sur cette épopée et sur son contexte de composition notamment. Nous précisons la dimension transitoire de ce livre, véritable seuil avant un finale codifié et attendu dans l'épopée, au livre 8. Cette idée est le fil conducteur de notre commentaire. Corippe ne cesse d'annoncer dans ce livre les succès futurs de l'armée de Jean, ce qui en fait un livre de morae, doté d'un grand intérêt dramatique. Nous expliquons que le thème de la renouatio imperii est très présent dans notre livre et nous étudions aussi sa macrostructure puis nous rappelons la portée historique du texte ainsi que la nature du témoignage de l'auteur, en insistant sur sa partialité.Notre introduction s'intéresse également à la portée politique, religieuse et idéologique du livre 7. Nous nous posons la question de savoir si les vers du poète comprennent de véritables citations bibliques ou seulement des motifs scripturaires ou de savoir quelle Bible Corippe fréquentait. Nous nous intéressons à la métaphysique et à la spiritualité dans le texte, où les Byzantins s'opposent aux Berbères dans le cadre d'une véritable « guerre sainte », prémices d'une croisade. Nous expliquons aussi que ce livre transitoire, avant la victoire du livre 8, devient au fil des vers un espace nécessairement purgatoire. Nous mentionnons aussi la figure de Verecundus et la querelle des « Trois Chapitres », certains vers nous permettant d'établir des liens plus étroits entre la Johannide et l'œuvre de Verecundus, autour d'un motif commun, celui des larmes. Nous mettons en évidence le rôle cathartique des larmes au livre 7. Nous décrivons la typologie littéraire du livre et nous nous intéressons ensuite à l'ethos du poète et à sa réflexion métalittéraire. Nous décrivons le livre 7 comme un lieu de liberté où le poète pose les fondements de "son manifeste poétique". Nous étudions enfin la langue et le style de Corippe, qui relie poésie et arts figurés au livre 7This PdD Thesis, carried out under the direction of Professor V. Zarini, consists of an edition, translation, and commentary on the seventh of eight books of a Latin epic from Late Antiquity called the Iohannis. This book 7, in dactylic hexameters, was composed by the grammaticus Flauius Cresconius C/Gorippus. In book 7 of the Iohannis, a true epic with a historical and panegyric dimension from the 6th century, which reports in eight books the attempted Byzantine reconquest of Africa by General John under Justinian, are related the events which took place between the summer of 547 and the summer of 548, when John suffered a heavy defeat and began to prepare for the final victory of the next book. Our work, started in 2018, aims, following work concerning the other books of the Iohannis since 1983, to propose the edition of the 542 hexameters of book 7, their translation and their commentary, highlighting the historical, political, ideological but also literary issues of this atypical work, between Virgilian and Carolingian epic, at the crossroads of genres.It was up to us to collect the lessons of the manuscript Triuultianus (T) 686 as well as the conjectures of pre-existing editions. Our commentary accounts for our ecdotal choices and justifies them. We have translated this book and explain the historical and political significance of each verse. Since the text is first the work of a poet, our commentary gives pride of place to the literary and even metaliterary dimension of the verses. We attempt to offer an in-depth study of reuses and rewritings of the verses.In the introduction, we located book 7 of the Iohannis in the general economy of the poem. We recalled the biographical elements regarding Corippus and what it is important to know about this epic and its context of composition. We specified the transitional dimension of this book, a real threshold before a codified and expected finale in the epic, in book 8. This idea is the common thread of our commentary. Corippus continues to announce in this book the future successes of John's army, which makes it a book of morae, with great dramatic interest. We explained that the theme of renouatio imperii is very present in our book and we also studied its macrostructure. Then we recalled the historical scope of the text as well as the nature of the author's testimony, emphasizing its partiality.Our introduction also focussed on the political, religious, and ideological scope of book 7. We asked ourselves the question of whether the poet's verses include real biblical quotations or only scriptural motifs or the question of knowing which Bible Corippus frequented. We are interested in the metaphysics and spirituality in the text, where the Byzantines oppose the Berbers in the context of a true “holy war”, the premises of a crusade. We also explained that this transitional book, before the victory of book 8, becomes over the course of the verses a necessarily purgatory space. We also mentioned the figure of Verecundus and the quarrel of the “Three Chapters”, certain verses allowing us to establish closer links between the Iohannis and the work of Verecundus, around the common motif of tears. We highlighted the cathartic role of tears in book 7. We studied the literary typology of the book and then focussed on the poet's ethos and his metaliterary reflection. We described book 7 as a place of freedom where the poet lays the foundations of "his poetic manifesto". We finally studied the language and style of Corippus, who connects poetry and figurative arts in book 7

Pour triompher de ses adversaires et faire valoir le christianisme, Arnobe de Sicca, apologiste chrétien de l'Afrique du Nord, s'évertue à saper les bases du paganisme en s'attaquant respectivement aux idoles et aux pratiques idolâtriques païennes. Dans le livre VII de son traité apologétique l'Adversus nationes, il pose la question des sacrifices et des offrandes faits aux dieux ainsi que d'autres cultes institués en leur honneur. Il explique que, loin de faire plaisir aux dieux, les sacrifices sanglants constituent une abomination dont les dieux ne sauraient se rendre responsables. Comptant "parmi les documents les plus riches dont dispose l'historien de la religion romaine sur les finalités et les modalités du sacrifice ...", le livre VII n'a pourtant pas fait l'objet d'une recherche approfondie de son contenu. In book VII of his apologetic treaty "Adversus Nationes", he questions the sacrifices and the offerings made to the gods as well as others worships instituted in their honor. He explains that, far from pleasing the gods, the bloody sacrifices constitute an abomination that gods could not make themselves responsible of. Counting "among the richest documents availableto the historian of the roman religion on the finalities and the methods of the sacrifice...", book VII however was not the object of a deep research regarding its contents. Le livre VII des Antiquités romaines retrace les événements de trois années : la frumentatio lancée par Rome en 492 (c. 1-19), puis la polémique suscitée par Coriolan et le procès qui s'ensuit en 491 (c. 20-67) et enfin le rêve de Titus Latinius et l'instauratio des Ludi Magni en 490 (c. 68-73). Les principes d'édition du texte résultent de la collation des dix manuscrits de la tradition directe, de trois manuscrits d'excerpta et d'une traduction latine. Le texte a été établi d'après trois manuscrits anciens, dont le Vaticanus gr. 1300, inconnu de C. Jacoby, l'auteur de la dernière édition en date (Teubner, 1891). La traduction en français est la première depuis celle publiée par F. Bellanger en 1723. Le commentaire philologique et historique propose la critique verbale du texte et les compléments notamment à la compréhension de l'excursus cuméen sur le tyran Aristodème (c. 3-11) et des Ludi Magni comparés aux rites de la Grèce archai͏̈que (c. 70-73)The book VII of the "Roman Antiquities" relates the events of three years: the frumentatio made by Rome in 492 (c. 1-19), the polemic caused by Coriolan and the lawsuit which follows in 491 (c 20-67) and at last the dream of Titus Latinius and the instauratio of the Ludi Magni in 490 (c. 68-73). The principles of edition of the text were worked from the collation of the ten manuscripts of the direct tradition, three manuscripts of excerpta and a Latin translation. The text was established according to three old manuscripts, of which Vaticanus gr. 1300, unknown by C. Jacoby, the author of the latest edition (Teubner, 1891). The translation in French has been the first one since that proposed by F. Bellanger in 1723. The philological and historical comment proposes the verbal criticism of the text and the complements in particular to the understanding of the Cumean ex-course about the tyrant Aristodemos (c. 3-11) and of the Ludi Magni compared with the rites of archai͏̈c Greece (c. 70-73)

In this dissertation we focus on the investigation about the bad based on the book VII of the Saint Augustine’s confessions, how to bad became a problem to Saint Augustine and how he searched a resolution for that was distressing for his life. The tipology was to discursivs, bibliographical research,from the lifting of antimanichaeism works of Saint Augustine.The bishop of Hippo researched the several philosophical and religious streams, the Neoplatonism and Manichaeism. However, the answers that these streams gave to the bad problematic weren’t enough to the unquiet mind of the Hipponense.This way, the main problem that was investigated in this dissertation is the conducting wire of the Augustine’s thoughts about his difficult in to accept the bad nature and its source. Because of this, the base of our investigation is the referred book VII of Augustine’s confessions. We listed what influenced the Hiponense to involve wit this subject, that is, what meaning of his life instigated him to involve and to think about the problem of the bad and, consequently, to try give an answer that exempts God to be the source of the bad. What elements made him to think and establish the Jewish- Christian like the only ontological principle that have countered the Manichaean duality. And, consequently, what’s the function that wish plays on the human actions.Our research was structured in three moments:in the first, we make a contextualization of the social,historical, and philosophical ambit of the work Saint Augustine’s confessions; in the second moment, we present the augustine’s mishap looking for the answer to the problem of bad;and, finally, we discuss specifically about theproblem of the bad in Augustine.
Nesta dissertação temos como foco central a investigação sobre o mal a partir do livro VII das Confissões de Agostinho de Hipona. Buscamos analisar de que maneira o mal se tornou um problema para Agostinho e como ele procurou elaborar uma resposta ao que foi um tema angustiante em sua vida. A tipologia foi à pesquisa discursiva, bibliográfica, a partir do levantamento das obras antimaniqueias de santo Agostinho. O bispo de Hipona transitou pelas mais diversas correntes filosóficas e religiosas, principalmente, o neoplatonismo e o maniqueísmo, porém, as respostas que estas ofereciam à problemática do mal não foram suficientes para a mente inquieta do hiponense. Desta forma, o principal problema investigado nesta dissertação é o fio condutor do pensamento agostiniano sobre a dificuldade em conceber a natureza do mal e a sua origem. Elencamos quais influências levaram o hiponense a imiscuísse com este tema, ou seja, que contexto de sua vida o levou a se envolver e a pensar o problema do mal e, consequentemente, a tentar elaborar uma resposta que isentasse a Deus de ser a origem do mal. Quais elementos o fizeram refletir e estabelecer o Deus judaico-cristão como único princípio ontológico que contrapusesse a dualidade maniqueia. E, consequentemente, qual o papel que a vontade desempenha nas ações humanas. Estruturamos nosso estudo em três momentos: o primeiro, fazemos uma contextualização de âmbito social, histórico e filosófico da obra Confissões de santo Agostinho; num segundo momento, apresentamos a peripécia agostiniana em busca de resposta ao problema do mal; e por fim, tratamos especificamente do problema do mal em Agostinho.

Au moment où le législateur s’apprête à ouvrir l’assistance médicale à la procréation aux couples de femmes, cette étude a pour objet de porter un regard critique sur l’analyse doctrinale du Titre VII du Livre premier du Code civil. Alors que la plupart des auteurs considèrent que le droit français est incohérent en ce qu’il recourt aux mêmes modes d’établissement de la filiation que l’enfant soit ou non lié biologiquement à ceux qui sont juridiquement reconnus comme ses parents, cette thèse propose de réenvisager le fondement de la filiation à partir d’une analyse causale de la parenté. Ce changement de perspective permet d’éclairer sous un jour nouveau les conditions d’accès à l’assistance médicale à la procréation ainsi que les enjeux tenant à leur éventuelle modification. Il permet aussi et surtout de réévaluer la cohérence du droit de la filiation et sa capacité à appréhender ces nouvelles figures de la parentéAs the legislator gets ready to open medically assisted procreation to women couples, the purpose of this study is to take a critical look at the doctrinal analysis of the Title VII of the First Book of the French Civil Code. Most of the authors consider that French law is incoherent as it uses the same modes of establishment of filiation whether a child is biologically related to those who are recognized as his parents or not. This thesis proposes to reconsider the basis of filiation, using a causal analysis of parenthood. This change of perspective allows to cast a new light on the eligibility criteria to medically assisted procreation as well as on the stakes of their potential modification. Resumo: A utilização de iniciadores químicos com funcionalidade superior a um, na polimerização via radical livre, tem crescido muito no meio acadêmico, científico e industrial. Estes tipos de iniciadores têm a capacidade de aumentar a velocidade da reação sem causar a redução do peso molecular do polímero formado. Além disso, iniciadores com funcionalidade superior a dois (multifuncionais), que não sejam cíclicos, podem ter a capacidade de gerar ramificações nas cadeias, alterando a microestrutura do produto. Existem alguns poucos trabalhos em literatura que abordam, em nível experimental e/ou de simulação, a polimerização via radical livre utilizando-se iniciadores bifuncionais (com dois grupos funcionais). Em Machado (2004), encontram-se modelos matemáticos utilizando iniciadores bifuncionais para a produção de polímeros lineares (poliestireno) e ramificados (poliacetato de vinila), este último, inédito em literatura aberta. O grau de complexidade envolvido no mecanismo cinético aumenta de forma significativa à medida que se aumenta a funcionalidade do iniciador. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar a polimerização via radical livre utilizando um iniciador cíclico trifuncional (TRIGONOX 301, T301). Este trabalho foi desenvolvido em nível experimental (polimerização em ampolas) e computacional (desenvolvimento de modelo matemático, modelagem e simulação). Esta pesquisa propôs um mecanismo cinético e um modelo matemático para polimerização via radical livre do estireno utilizando um iniciador trifuncional. O estireno foi escolhido por ser bastante conhecido e por existir muitos dados e informações a seu respeito em literatura aberta. O modelo matemático construído prediz resultados como conversão, peso molecular (Mn e Mw), concentração de radicais e concentração de polímero. A investigação experimental foi realizada para validar os resultados de simulação. O método utilizado foi a polimerização em ampolas. Análises de Cromatografia por Permeação em Gel (GPC), Microscopia Eletrônica por Varredura (MEV), Difração por Raio-X (DRX) e Calorimetria Exploratória Diferencial (DSC) foram realizadas nas amostras obtidas experimentalmente para uma melhor caracterização do polímero final. As validações foram feitas para os resultados de conversão e peso molecular. Os resultados obtidos na parte experimental foram de extrema importância para se obter a validação da parte de modelagem e simulação, bem como para se poder conhecer o comportamento do iniciador trifuncional T301. O modelo de predição apresentou boa concordância com os dados experimentais. Através de seu uso, pode-se explorar a reação de polimerização, podendo verificar o comportamento das várias espécies nela presentes. Além disso, pode-se também estudar os efeitos de algumas variáveis como a temperatura e a concentração de iniciador durante a reação de polimerização e também no produto final. Este estudo se apresenta como uma investigação abrangente da polimerização usando um iniciador trifuncional, fornecendo uma ferramenta que pode simular com confiabilidade a polimerização do estireno via radical livre e, também, apresentando outros tipos de análise que podem ser realizadas no polímero final obtido. Deve-se destacar que através do uso do iniciador trifuncional T301, houve a possibilidade de obtenção de poliestirenos com altos pesos moleculares, simultaneamente com reduzidas polidispersidades (curvas de distribuição de peso molecular estreitas), a altas temperaturas e, como conseqüência, com elevadas taxas de reação.
Abstract: Researchers from industries and universities have investigated the use of initiators with functionality greater than one, in free radical polymerization. These types of initiators are able to increase the polymerization reaction rate with no decrease in molecular weight. Besides, initiators with functionality greater than two (multifunctional initiators), those that do not have a cyclic structure, are able to generate branches in the polymer chains, changing the product microstructure. Experimental studies of initiators with functionality greater than two in free radical polymerization are very few and the modeling of such systems is really scarce. The complexity of the kinetic mechanism increases with the increasing of the initiator functionality. Machado (2004) presents mathematical models using mono- and bifunctional initiators in free radical polymerization of linear (polystyrene) and branched (poly vinyl acetate) polymers. This last case is brand new in open literature. The objective of this work was to study free radical polymerization using a trifunctional cyclic initiator (TRIGONOX 301, T301). This work was developed in experimental level (polymerization in ampoules) and in computational level (development of mathematical model, modeling and simulation). This research proposed a kinetic mechanism and developed a mathematical model to free radical polymerization of styrene using a trifunctional initiator. Styrene was chosen because it is a very well known monomer and there is a lot of data about it. The mathematical model built predicts results as conversion, molecular weight (number average, Mn, and weight average, Mw), radical concentration and polymer concentration profiles. An experimental investigation was also made in order to validate the simulation results. The experimental part followed the method of polymerization in ampoules. The following analyses were performed to characterize the samples of polymers obtained experimentally: Gel Permeation Cromatography (GPC), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). The validation was made to conversion and molecular weights. The experimental results were very important to validate the model and also to investigate the behavior of the trifunctional initiator T301. Model simulations showed good agreement with experimental data. Simulations could explore the polymerization reaction, verifying the behavior of all species present in it. Also, it was possible to study the effects of some variables as temperature and initiator concentration during the reaction and in the final product. This study is a comprehensive investigation of a reaction using a trifunctional initiator, providing a model that simulates accurately the free radical polymerization of styrene and, also, presenting types of different analysis that can be done in the final polymer. It should be noted that the use of the trifunctional initiator T301 in free radical polymerization brought the possibility of obtaining polystyrenes with high molecular weights, simultaneously with reduced polydispersities (narrower MWD profiles), at high temperatures and, as a consequence, at high reaction rates.

Previous issue date: 2012-05-14This dissertation investigates ontological attributes of electronic games and books. This approach is founded on Philosophy, Communication and Ludology authors, contrasted and connected to each other. The principles in Nelson Goodman s nominalist philosophy ground the dialogue among different authors. A philosophy of language is constructed, aiming for the combination of concepts such as Heidegger s errancy and the thoughts on fiction since Plato and Aristotle. The tools obtained from this structure of relations are used for an interpretation of the Final Fantasy VII electronic game. Game researchers, such as Gonzalo Frasca and James Paul Gee, as well as Ludology epitomes such as Johan Huizinga and Roger Caillois, are summoned to support the understanding of this specific subject. From that game emerges a functional separation between independent narrative planes, related either to the fictional plot or playability. Following reflections on the ontology of electronic games, an exercise of translating Final Fantasy VII to e-book format is proposed. Marshall McLuhan helps thinking about the inherent potential in every new expressive medium; Walter Benjamin bridges traditional Western fiction and features of the reception experience, which are regained by digital media-laden interaction. Marie-Laure Ryan, among others who applied Literary Studies to understand games, complements the resulting e-book s conception. As a result, this research intends to accomplish a threefold role. It discusses language fundamentals and their ethical consequences for the work of communicators; analyzes a culturally relevant document in its mechanics and its fictional structure; presents an interactive book as an example of the electronic media potential in enriching the reading experience of fictional texts, even for non-game products
Esta dissertação investiga atributos ontológicos de jogos e livros eletrônicos. A abordagem fundamenta-se em autores da Filosofia, da Comunicação e da Ludologia, contrastados e articulados. Os princípios da filosofia nominalista de Nelson Goodman baseiam esse diálogo entre autores. Constrói-se uma filosofia da linguagem que vise a combinação de conceitos como a errância de Heidegger e a ficção desde Platão e Aristóteles. Os instrumentos desenvolvidos a partir dessa estrutura de relações são aplicados a uma interpretação do jogo eletrônico Final Fantasy VII. Pesquisadores de jogos, como Gonzalo Frasca e James Paul Gee, passando por referências da Ludologia como Johan Huizinga e Roger Caillois, são invocados em apoio à compreensão específica desse objeto. Emerge nesse jogo uma separação funcional entre planos narrativos independentes, relacionados ao roteiro ficcional ou à jogabilidade. A partir de reflexões sobre a ontologia do jogo eletrônico, propõe-se um exercício de tradução de Final Fantasy VII para o formato de livro eletrônico. Marshall McLuhan auxilia a pensar sobre o potencial inerente a cada novo meio de expressão; Walter Benjamin faz a ponte entre a tradição ficcional ocidental e características da experiência da recepção, resgatadas pela interatividade proporcionada pelos meios digitais. Marie- Laure Ryan, entre outros autores que utilizaram o repertório dos Estudos Literários para a compreensão dos jogos, complementa a concepção do livro eletrônico produzido. Como resultado, a pesquisa pretende cumprir um triplo papel. Discute conceitos fundamentais da linguagem e suas consequências éticas para o trabalho dos comunicadores; analisa um documento cultural relevante em suas mecânicas e em sua estrutura ficcional; apresenta um livro interativo como exemplo do potencial dos meios eletrônicos de enriquecer a experiência de leitura do texto ficcional, mesmo para produtos que não sejam jogos

Introdução: o movimento da ciência aberta engloba, entre as suas premissas, os repositórios de códigos abertos. Entretanto, esses sistemas de informação nem sempre são divulgados e há pouca informação sobre iniciativas abertas para conter códigos abertos para pesquisa. Metodologia: Utilizando uma abordagem de relato de experiência, este estudo detalha a concepção, implementação e operação da Rede Moara. A metodologia enfoca a seleção de tecnologias de software livre, como WordPress e GitLab, e a estratégia de desenvolvimento adotada para criar um ecossistema de informação robusto e acessível. Resultados: assim, descreve a rede como um ecossistema de informação construído com softwares livres a partir de um site em WordPress e um GitLab, entre outros. Conclusão: a Rede Moara se apresenta como uma iniciativa confiável, apoiada por uma instituição governamental, atendendo a demanda de hospedagem de software livre

Introdução: A secagem desempenha um papel crucial no beneficiamento da madeira, reduzindo riscos de perdas por defeitos e biodeterioração. O objetivo deste estudo foi realizar o monitoramento do teor de umidade das madeiras de Couratari oblongifolia (imbirema) e Diplotropis purpurea (sucupira), submetida ao processo de secagem ao ar livre no município de Rolim de Moura, RO. Metodologia: As peças de 35 cm foram monitoradas durante a secagem ao ar livre, e amostras de 5 cm foram em estufa a 103±5°C até a obtenção de massa constante. Resultados: A madeira submetida a secagem na estufa apresentou os valores de umidade a base úmida (Ubu) da madeira de Imbirema (33,66%) e a Ubs (50,73%). Para a espécie da madeira Sucupira, apresentou um valor de Ubu de (49,05%), e para Ubs foi de (96,30%), respectivamente. Os teores de umidades iniciais para as espécies do estudo apresentaram valores distintos. Para Imbirema foram de 50,73% para ambas as amostras, sendo que para a espécie de Sucupira foram de 96,30% a 71,88%. Discussão: As espécies tiveram um alto nível de perda de umidade durante os primeiros dias, até chegarem em 36% de umidade, logo apresentaram uma fase estável, até chegar a uma umidade próxima ao ponto de saturação das fibras. As distintas taxas de perda entre as espécies indicam variação no comportamento de secagem. Conclusão: Essa análise reforça a influência dinâmica e multifatorial na secagem ao ar livre, enfatizando a necessidade de métodos de monitoramento adequados para compreender e otimizar o processo de secagem da madeira

Abstract:
Introdução: A emancipação de Rolim de Moura ocorreu em 1983 e, com ela, a urbanização atingiu grande avanço. Contendo abundância em água proveniente de centenas de córregos, pequenos igarapés e microbacias dos rios, o principal curso d’água em Rolim de Moura é o rio Anta Atirada. Ações antrópicas, avanços urbanísticos e fatores climáticos têm provocado enchentes no município. O estudo de caso objetiva compreender questões que envolvem a antropização e sua relação com as enchentes na malha urbana de Rolim de Moura e analisar a qualidade da água. Metodologia: Foram realizadas imagens para mensurar Área de Preservação Permanente (APP), com o auxílio do Google Earth e o software livre QGIS 3.22.8, e coletas d’água para análises físico-química e microbiológica. Resultados: Com intensão de evitar enchentes no município, a secretária do meio ambiente faz o desassoreamento no rio Anta Atirada e córregos. Enchentes são fenômenos naturais intensificados por antropização. O desflorestamento de APPs, descarte de lixos às margens do rio e assoreamentos, são as principais intensificações humanas das enchentes. Conclusão: A água analisada do rio Anta Atirada, não se encontra em condições de consumo humano, pois está contaminada por patógenos, podendo gerar doenças hídricas em caso de consumo.

Introdução: a comunicação organizacional é entendida como processo de construção e disputa de sentidos no âmbito das relações organizacionais, possuindo três dimensões: a organização comunicada; a organização comunicante e a organização falada. Entendendo este processo de comunicação, foi implementado em 2008 na Prefeitura Municipal de Porto Velho o comunicador SPARK, que é um software livre disponível, similar ao antigo Messenger da Microsoft. Metodologia: Este trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar as ferramentas de comunicação digital para as organizações públicas, por meio de um estudo de caso na prefeitura de Porto Velho em uma qualificação realizada nesta municipalidade entre os dias 10 e 11 de outubro de 2017 que capacitou cerca de 40 servidores. Resultados: embora os esforços para que o software continuasse em uso na municipalidade, ainda assim, não houveram melhoras no desempenho de usabilidade deste programa além da redução de usuários que fazem o login diariamente nesta plataforma. Conclusão: o presente trabalho tenta alertar o público da necessidade deste tipo de comunicador, bem como sua utilização neste processo de comunicação institucional, porque entende-se que o processo burocrático da administração pública pode ser minimizado, bem como a comunicação integrada com órgãos distantes fisicamente, proporcionando economicidade de insumos, suprimentos e tempo

A pesquisa buscou examinar a legislação brasileira aplicável à proteção de software livre e à política institucional de proteção de software livre da Rede Moara. Resultados: Como resultados da pesquisa foram delineados procedimentos para implementação da política institucional de proteção de software livre da Rede Moara. Conclusão: os procedimentos para implementação da política institucional de proteção de software livre da Rede Moara seguem os padrões estabelecidos pela Free Software Foundation (FSF).

Abstract:
Coagulation abnormalities are among the number of potential risk factors toinitiate the bleeding episodes from gastrcr-esophageal varices in liver cirrhosis. The impairment of liver clearance of activated coagulation factors, the release of thromboplastin-like activity from the necrotic liver cells and the hemodynamic changes due to expanded bollaterals may all contribute to activate the coagulation cascade.However, little is known about the mechanisms leading to this activation. Activated Factor VII (FVIIa) is known totrigger both intrinsec and extrinsec coagulation pathway. Therefore, we measured FVIIa in a group of 33 cirrhotic patients in order to see if a difference between bleeders and non-bleeders patients would correlate with Factor VII activation. The patients were divided in two groups according to the presence or the absence of major bleeding from gastroesophageal varices; haemorragic episodes were confirmed by a gastroscopic examination performed during or immediately after bleeding episodes. Factor VII coagulant assay (VII:C - one stage clotting method) and Factor VII coupled amidolytic assay (VII:CHR) were performed and a factor VII activity ratio (VIIa) was calculated as VII:C/VII:CHR. The results (mean ± S.E.) are summarized in this table:No difference in Vila distribution was seen when the patients were divided on the base of liver impairment (according to Child’s criteria) .Our study shows that FVII activation is related to bleeding from esophageal varices but not to the degree of liver impairment and strongly suggests the existence of an hypercoagulable state in liver cirrhosis, probably related to major bleeding from gastroesophageal varices in cirrhotic patients.

Review question / Objective: The objective of the study was to compare the mean difference and AUROC of Visceral Adiposity Index (VAI) in NAFLD/NASH/liver fibrosis patients and controls in observational studies. Condition being studied: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a multi-system disease, being mainly a liver pathology involving excessive hepatic fat accumulation unrelated to alcohol consumption or other secondary causes of hepatic steatosis. It is an emerging cause of concern and increasing clinical burden, imposing a public health challenge. NAFLD is the most common chronic liver disease and is predicted to be the most common indication for a liver transplant in Western countries by 2030, owing to a prevalence of 25% worldwide. The visceral adiposity index (VAI) is a scoring system based on body mass index, triglycerides, high-density lipoproteins (HDLs), and waist circumferences (WCs).

Abstract:
The aim of this systematic review is to compare Chinese herbal medicine combined with Sorafenib in terms of efficacy and acceptability in the primary liver cancer to better inform clinical practice. To this end, the proposed systematic review will address the following question: Which is the best choice to reduce Efficacy and safety in Patients with primary liver cancer, Chinese herbal medicine combined with Sorafenib or Sorafenib.this systematic review and meta-analysis will evaluate the efficacy and Sorafenib combined with Chinese herbal medicine in the treatment of PLC. Information sources: We will search the following databases from inception up to September 8, 2021: PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, AMED, Cochrane Library, CNKI, VIP, CBM, and Wanfang. There will be no restrictions regarding publication date or language. We will apply a combination of medical keywords and words, including "Sorafenib", "Chinese herbal medicine" and "primary liver cancer". Additionally, we will manually search all reference lists from relevant systematic reviews to find other eligible studies.

The memoirs of (post-) punk musician Viv Albertine address the issue of choice or lack thereof in romantic and family relationships. They depict a world in which choice of romantic partners appears normal if often unsuccessful, whereas choice within family relationships is restricted. It is self-evident that one cannot choose one’s blood relatives. However, amplified by Albertine’s scepticism towards any social relationships, her two memoirs represent ‘negative choice’ (Eva Illouz) in heterosexual romantic relationships and the complex ways in which negative choice can change family dynamics. In her memoirs, Albertine presents loneliness as the opposite of love which aligns with her model of choice, as it is preferable to live a lonely life over being bound up in love relationships, romantic or familial, which are harmful to one’s wellbeing. This article demonstrates how the ethos of early punk is translated into an uncompromising process of life writing which presents itself as faithfulness towards the individual’s core need for self-realisation and self-expression against the backdrop of failing romantic and familial relationships, severe physical and mental health problems, a self-diagnosis of autism and a patriarchal society.

Abstract:
Anaplasmosis is an arthropod+borne disease of cattle caused by the rickettsia Anaplasma marginale and an impediment to efficient production of healthy livestock in both Israel and the United States. Our research focuses on development of a recombinant membrane surface protein (MSP) immunogen to replace current vaccines derived from the blood of infected cattle. The risk of widespread transmission of both known and newly emergent pathogens has prevented licensure of live blood-based vaccines in the U.S. and is a major concern for their continued use in Israel. Briefly, we accomplished the following in our BARD supported research: i) characterization of the intramolecular and intermolecular relationships of the native Major Surface Proteins (MSP) in the outer membrane; ii) expression, purification, and epitope characterization of the recombinant MSP-2, MSP-3, MSP-4, and MSP-5 proteins required to construct the recombinant ISCOM; iii) demonstration that the outer membrane-Quil A induces CD4+ T lymphocytes specific for the outer membrane polypeptides; iv) identification of CD4+ T lymphocytes that recognize outer membrane polypeptide epitopes conserved among other wise antigenically distinct strains; v) determination that immunization with the outer membrane-Quil A construct does not affect the ability of ticks to acquire or transmit A. marginale; and vi) demonstration that the outer membrane-Quil A construct induces complete protection against rickettsemia upon homologous challenge and significant protection against challenge with antigenically distinct strains, including tick transmission. Importantly, the level of protection against homologous challenge in the MSP vaccinates was comparable to that induced by live blood-based vaccines and demonstrates that development of a new generation of vaccines is feasible.

Abstract:
Hepatitis E is an infection of the liver caused by the hepatitis E virus (HEV). HEV infection usually produces a mild disease, hepatitis E. However, disease symptoms can vary from no apparent symptoms to liver failure. There are 4 main types (genotypes) of the virus that cause concern in humans. Genotypes 1 and 2 infections are mainly restricted to humans but 3 and 4 can be identified in numerous other animal species including pigs. Transmission routes of HEV genotypes 3 and 4 have been identified to include the consumption of food products derived from infected animals and shellfish, and via transfusion of infected blood products. Hepatitis E infection is still an emerging issue in the UK and there is evidence to suggest an association of this virus with undercooked pork and pork products. Currently, there is no standardized method for evaluating the stability of HEV that may be present in food during cooking processes. There is also lack of a suitable method that can detect only infectious HEV. The proposed project aimed to address a key gap in resources for methodology related to the detection of HEV in pork and pork products. Currently the lack of a standardised method for the detection of HEV has resulted in individual laboratories either utilising their own methods or adapting methods from previously published work. This leads to a high degree of variability between the interpretation of results and does nothing to progress or provide benefit to the food industry. By interrogating the existing published methods, the project sought to refine and optimise elements of existing protocols in order to enhance the performance characteristics of the method and to simplify the methodology wherever possible. The aim was to produce a validated method which is both robust and repeatable which can be easily integrated into food laboratories capable of performing virus related work. Overall, the final method chosen was devoid of hazardous reagents and utilised easily accessible equipment. To verify the robustness of the method, an international collaborative trial was performed, with 4 UK and 3 European participant laboratories. The participating laboratories conducted analyses of pork liver samples artificially contaminated with various levels of HEV (including uncontaminated samples). The trial showed that the HEV DETECT method was just as reproducible between laboratories as it was repeatable within a laboratory. It is envisaged that the developed system will be put forward as a suitable candidate for ISO certification as a standard method. The establishment of these methods in UK laboratories could result in the availability of independent testing services for both domestic and imported pork /pork-based products. The availability of this method is in essence innovation. This work is essential to industry to help support further research to ensure that public health safety and confidence in pork and other “HEV risk” food products is maintained and improved.

Abstract:
This synthesis paper summarises patterns in the lived experience of 25 children in Hazaribagh, Dhaka who went about a typical day in their lives. Combining use of Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, a survey children completed via a mobile phone app, and ethnographic observations, children and adult researchers recorded locations, times of day, activities, and feelings. The paper brings into view the challenges that children in worst forms of child labour navigate before, after, and between work. The findings illustrate how children live in small worlds with adult concerns. We are able to see the range of responsibilities that they take on to provide for their families, and the poor treatment they receive from parents, supervisors, and people in the community, as they navigate their days. This is a confusing and lonely social landscape with little free time to spend relaxing in the company of their peers. Children find little respite from the excessively long hours that they work, the hot conditions, and the repetitive work. Many of the children endure constant discomfort, pain, hunger, heightened risks of accidents, sexual harassment, and violence. Poor home and neighbourhood environments amplify the levels of tiredness and risk. Yet in the details of all the varied and layered abuses and challenges the children navigate, we find clues for small improvements that may make a big difference to their daily lives.

Abstract:
COVID-19 may have forever changed our world. Given the limited space and air circulation, potential infections on public transportation could be concerningly high. Accordingly, this study has two objectives: (1) to understand air circulation patterns inside the cabins of buses; and (2) to test the impact of different technologies in mitigating viruses from the air and on surfaces inside bus cabins. For the first objective, different devices, metrics and experiments (including colored smoke; videotaping; anemometers; pressure differentials; particle counts; and 3D numerical simulation models) were utilized and implemented to understand and quantify air circulation inside different buses, with different characteristics, and under different operating conditions (e.g. with windows open and shut). For the second objective, three different live prokaryotic viruses were utilized: Phi6, MS2 and T7. Various technologies (including positive pressure environment inside the cabin, HEPA filters with different MERV ratings, concentrated UV exposure with charged carbon filters in the HVAC systems, center point photocatalytic oxidation technology, ionization, and surface antiviral agents) were tested to evaluate the potential of mitigating COVID-19 infections via air and surfaces in public transportation. The effectiveness of these technologies on the three live viruses was tested in both the lab and in buses in the field. The results of the first objective experiments indicated the efficiency of HVAC system designs, where the speed of air spread was consistently much faster than the speed of air clearing. Hence, indicating the need for additional virus mitigation from the cabin. Results of the second objective experiments indicated that photocatalytic oxidation inserts and UVC lights were the most efficient in mitigating viruses from the air. On the other hand, positive pressure mitigated all viruses from surfaces; however, copper foil tape and fabrics with a high percentage of copper mitigated only the Phi6 virus from surfaces. High-temperature heating was also found to be highly effective in mitigating the different viruses from the vehicle cabin. Finally, limited exploratory experiments to test possible toxic by-products of photocatalytic oxidation and UVC lights inside the bus cabin did not detect any increase in levels of formaldehyde, ozone, or volatile organic compounds. Implementation of these findings in transit buses, in addition to the use of personal protective equipment, could be significantly valuable for protection of passengers and drivers on public transportation modes, possibly against all forms of air-borne viruses.
