Full textHemmou Ounamir is an Amazigh Myth, from the oral tradition. The diversity of the versions of the myth which are still in circulation today, the researches and studies to which it was subjected and the multiple transpositions it has witnessed proved its permanent vitality and usefulness and inform us more about the large scope of its dissemination and richness. In addition, this myth continues to exert a lasting spell on people and is nowadays still appreciated for its sacredness by a great number of taletellers. The myth of Hammou Ounamir consists of the sumtotal of those versions which we are supposed to detect in our survey of all the old publications and among those to be collected from the taletellers themselves. Its mythical dimension emanates not only from its production and reproduction, but also stems from its reception and interpretation. Our journey through / and exploration of the multiple types / layers of the hypertexts of the myth reveals the genesis of a whole prolific imaginary where is reflected the personae/image of the mythical hero proliferated and multiplied through a gallery/ a forest of mirrors. A palimpsest reading of the transition of the myth from the verbal/the oral to the written, then to literature and the arts, from the production to the reception, is the major preoccupation/concern/axis of this thesis. In fact, the acts of writing and reading of the plot of Hemmou Ounamir end up being an integral part of the workings of the myth itself and the very articulation of its imaginary powers - that perforce add to its polysemy and openness. The myth goes beyond being a mere cameo - an object that offers itself for reading and interpretation, it becomes; however, a tool of analysis of the subject as well as of the collective consciousness. This transformation of the myth is going to revitalise it within a new and fecund chain of meanings through which is both reflected the urgent and the vital preoccupations of the society and are answered questions related to ethics, ontology and identity

Full textTrying to discover the identity of a society’s members means eliciting what defines them, i.e. the numerous realities to which they belong and which they express. In other words, it means claiming the pluralistic character of identity, defined by physical, cultural, social and historical features. This thesis aims at giving an insight into the tuareg society, observed from within, through fundamental features defining its specificity, conceived as inalienable properties. Among the numerous identifying features I have selected for description are those that seem to me most relevant in tuareg identity formation while not losing sight of the others features. The thesis therefore includes the major life dimensions of tuareg society, considering their specificity and complementariness, i.e. their interactive and bound characteristics, such as history and culture, social anthropology and linguistic expression. The tuareg society is part of the Berber-speaking world, mostly located in Northern Africa, and lies on the fringe of the Sahara desert, west Africa and the Sahel. These Sahel-based tuareg communities, the most populous ones, are in contact with Western and Northern African populations. This specific situation accounts for identity claims that stem from the loss of the society’s internal coherence due to borrowings of innovative cultural features that have not yet been totally digested. This method, which aims at combining the inside and outside analysis, leads me to explain and connnect the aspects that I feel are fundamental

Full textThe central problems of my thesis consist of the anthropological study of the Berber theatre of Kabylian expression through the “adaptations” of Mohia. It devotes the explicit conditions which allowed the emergence of the work of the author and what characterizes it : interculturality, orality, contemporaneity. Underlining the emancipatory and reforming fact theatre of Mohia with regard to the traditional kinds, our approach evolves to an analysis of the facts anthropological, sociological and ethnographic of theritual one. She proposes an interdisciplinary scientific method of the syncretic phenomena. Initially, she studies the Kabylian ritual in her syncretic forms, and restores the original fragments which justify the “laic” dimension of the modern theatrical show. In the second time, it reconstitutes by the fact of the revolts of the populations autochtones, only visible fact of the Kabylian social history (often in opposition between the writings of the foreign military chiefs and the collective memory), of the ethno-dramatic scenes. The principle is to be able to look in the ethno-scene a logic in the evolution of the Kabylian social history. The characteristics which rise from the ethno scene joins again with the work of Mohia, analyzes his report with Kabylian sociology, its cultural anchoring, its presence in the Kabylian theatrical assembly and her contribution in the reform of “Kabylian suitability” through the actors known as “frontier runners of word”. All the process of this research is subordinated to discussions, with anthropologists of ground, to which my contribution contributes of one effective participation to the social life, militant and artistic of the Kabylian world

Full textThe ability of the natives to maintain control of their cultural references and parctices in a colonial situation was characterized in Kabylia by resistance to assimilation in the culture of the colonizer. This is illustrated by the chain of precursors in the construction of cultural identity which emerged even before the independence of Algeria. Tracing its genealogy requires studying the different contexts, methods and actors in the development of cross-disciplinary knowledge: from the travellers of the 18th century, the interpreters and officers from the Bureaux arabes, the marginal scholars from the University of Algiers, the primary school teachers and administrators, to the ethnographers of the colonial period and the first French-speaking Kabyle writers. The “Kabyle myth”, in the words of Ch. -R. Ageron and widespread in the scientific community, does not ultimately explain the representation of native otherness found in monographs of the colonial archives which contradicts the supposed assimilation of a region to the French administrative organization. The Kbyle woman was also an issue in the contradictory dbates within the Kabyle elite. The analysis of the various modes of reappropriating knowledge, from the Orientalist period with the inception of the University of Algiers, dedicated to language and ethnography, to the native literature after world war II, sheds light, byond the colonial and postcolonial violence, on the singularity of the manufacturing of an invention of self which exceeds the ideal native transmission of a regionalist culture

Full textThis work aims at answering the following question : how can a writer, in this case Ibrahim Al Koni, testify to the history and culture of his people, the Touaregs (endangered), without producing neither an ethnographic speech nor a political manifest ? The answer just immediately to mind is : by writing. However, the main mode of expression and transmission in the touareg society is orality. That is why the author will need to use a “foreign” language (arabic) and an exogenous form (the novel) to accomplish this mission. But the challenge does not stop here : Al Koni intends to give back to his people many values and a way of life threatened by oblivion and by the collapse of the traditional nomadic space. He than needs to invent an original matrix able to convey these values and find “Waw”, the lost oasis, bathing in the prime speech of the ancestors book, “Anhi”. By investing touaregs founding myths in the frame of romanesques intrigues, Al Koni manages to succeed this alchemy and builds a new genre in the arab and contemporary world literature : The Novel of the desert

Full textM. Khair-eddine's novels are a hymn to the resurrection of the oral language and berber traditions. They extol the memory of a thousand years old civilisation. However this extolment is not a folklovic expression to praise the attraction of an exotic culture. It is, on the contrary, the deep expression of a literary vision which is constantly transcending the laws of stantardised type and praises pluri-discursive writing and intertextuality. The use of oral language in his novels is not only a traditional transposition of popular themes and characters but also striking feature reflected in form and structure. In fact, expressions and structures characteristic for oral language embrace well-known novel writing techniques in accordance with poetic laws ofintertextual writing. Thus, from oral to written language, themes and structures interfere with one other and grow together, generating a polyphonic novel writing techniques, where tale's characters join historical characters, where geographic space is extended by metapphysical space, where acts and words of the hero meet the gesture and speech of founder myth. The act of writing follows a rythm of wondering ritual and initiating. The narrative "i" bunts, disappears and reappears in accordance with an alchemic process of continual renewal, imitating the circular rythm of cosmos. And the body is in the heart of this alchemy: like the word, the body is constantly pulverized and reinvented. It is the meraphor of the text because in m. Khair-eddine's novels, body is written it self and the word becomes flesh. Thus, by using the intertextual expression of writen and oral language and by underlining the "organic function of words", m. Khair-eddine's novel writing conveys his deep and transcendent vision of literature
