Abstract:
Panaït Istrati's contributions to literature extend beyond his creative works, and this quality is reflected in “Panaït Istrati: Littérature et Société. Literature and Society”, edited by Dana Radler, Aurora Băgiac and Teodora-Anca Șerban-Oprescu, and prefaced by Christian Delrue. All the five sections of the bilingual (French and English) volume (“Panaït Istrati Between Two Literary Formulas”, “Biography – Autobiography – Writing”, “Personal Life and Political Life”, “Hybrid Aspects and Folkloric Imaginary”, and “Panaït Istrati and Artistic Transposition”) will grab the reader’s attention from the very first sentence. One of the most complex Romanian writers, born in the Romanian town of Brăila in 1884, Panait Istrati is equally seen as a French writer. His work is influenced by a strong social message, laying a significant emphasis on the world of the proletariat and the disenfranchised. One can easily notice that, starting from between worlds and writing styles, the incursion in Istrati's world correlates his life and work with names such as Romain Rolland, Maryse Condé, Ahmadou Kourouma, and even George Orwell.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract Literature struggles in South Africa—or, struggles of interpretation?—evince, and continue to evince, a thematic and stylistic impulse to belong to a common society, but, paradoxically, a society that is often more disjunctive than conjunctive. How, then, to belong? I trace the trajectory from the black-and-white voices of the 1970s to a more heterogeneous conception of the society, after apartheid, and particularly over the last decade, or so. What is peculiar about literature struggles is that the heroic mode has played a relatively marginal role in sense-making or imaginative projection; rather, the critical insight ensures that political language—too often crude in its singularities of either/or—has seldom enjoyed the unalloyed assent of literary language. Considerations of nation-building hardly feature alongside the concerns of living in a functioning society.

Abstract:
Literature and revolution are motifs aimed at exploring the enormous contributions and roles played by the study of literature across Africa. This study is mostly centered on the dilemma tales of Ama Ata Aidoo‟s The Dilemma of a Ghost (1965) and Athol Fugard‟s Statement Plays (1972). The paper argues that the discipline is far above bibliolatry and it further examines the authority in which the discipline wields in the society. This preconceived power in the discipline is expressed through the study of themes and dramatic techniques as seen in the plays of the two playwrights from different regions of Africa exploring the socio-political wound that led to the reactions and concern of great writers and playwright like Athol Fugard and Ama Ata Aidoo. Fugard‟s Statement Plays (1972) especially the stapled parts appear to be neglected as a result of its complexities and dynamic socio-political situation that may be summarized as “apartheid”. The Dilemma of a Ghost (1965) delineates on folk drama in modern theatre. It is a dramatic art of storytelling where by the theatre or environment is combined with eating and drinking, poetry reading and plays. It is the techniques and convention that matter most in this kind of drama where issues of morals are examined. This plays can also be classified as dilemma tale; a tale which poses a difficult questions of moral or legal significance on older and younger generation. The two plays therefore are a response to the various anger and attack of different sorts arising from the social and political upheavals in the society. For proper evaluation and explication of this research the theoretical framework adopted for this study is the post-colonial theory which makes the work more relevant and appropriate for the evaluation of the issues that transcends between socio-political and economic life of Africans and further reinstates that literature uses revolution to heal all kinds of debilitating wounds whether political, social or emotional.

Abstract:
Abstract Starting with an analysis of the award-winning literary documentary Le Moulin, this paper argues that the film’s reconstruction of Le Moulin Poetry Society in colonial Taiwan suggests world literature as an alternative framework for studying Taiwan literature within cross-cultural contexts. Taiwan literature has been predominantly studied as “postcolonial literature” vis-à-vis Japanese literature and, more recently, “Sinophone literature” in relation to mainland Chinese literature. Instead of deliberating on the subjugated position of Taiwan literature in relation to dominant literatures, the documentary film celebrates the avant-garde experimentation by Le Moulin Poetry Society and underscores the connection of Taiwan literature to world literature through the mediation of Japanese writers. Its employment of what can be called “performative historiography” to fulfill this task raises significant questions about the reinvention of literature, literary canonization, and literary historiography in a new age.

Abstract:
Classical literature helps us to understand the ancient Tamil society. The ancient Tamil community was a society that followed high characteristics. Classical literature shows that when people follow high qualities in a society where they live together, it leads to equality, development and unity of society. The so-called characteristic sing-and-run step emphasizes the idea that the world should know the state of the world and adapt to it. The uniqueness of Tamils is due to the high qualities they followed. Classical literature also highlights the need to possess the highest qualities from the individual to the king. The purpose of this article is to examine the high qualities mentioned in classical literature such as Sangam literature and Thirukkural.
