Abstract:
Abstract. The aim of the study was to investigate the occurrence and severity of biotic stress factors, quality and agronomic parameters and its effect on yield and quality character of wheat genotypes. The experiment was conducted at Trakia Agricultural Research Institute, Edirne experimental area, during 2013-2015 cropping years. Grain yield, days of heading, plant height, 1000-kernel weight, test weight, protein ratio, leaf rust, stripe rust, Septoria leaf spot and relationship among these parameters were investigated. Based on a two years data, apart from protein content, other parameters showed significant difference (p<0.05). When compared to the mean yields in both cropping years, the genotypes Gelibolu and BBVD-3, BBVD-4, BBVD-9 genotypes were determined the better-adapted genotypes under target environment. Cultivar Aldane and TCI011322-8 line was detected as very tolerant to leaf rust and stripe rust in both years under the infection of field condition. Aldane had higher protein ratio, 1000-kernel weight and test weight. Grain yield was positively correlated with test weight and negatively correlated with foliar diseases. A highly significant negative correlation was determined between grain yield and plant height in both growing years. Leaf rust and Septoria tritici leaf disease had negative effect on protein ratio in both years. There was a significant positive relation between 1000-kernel weight and test weight. Results of the study indicated that based on biotic stress factors BBVD-6, BBVD-7 and TCI011322-8 are promising lines that need to be improved a bit further.

Abstract:
This essay begins by examining the rhetorical significance of the guillotine, an important symbol during the Romantic Period. Lacefield argues that the guillotine symbolized a range of modern ontological juxtapositions and antinomies during the period. Moreover, she argues that the guillotine influenced Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein through Giovanni Aldini, a scientist who experimented on guillotined corpses during the French Revolution and inspired Shelley’s characterization of Victor Frankenstein. Given the importance of the guillotine as a powerful metaphor for anxieties emergent during this period, Lacefield employs it as a clue signaling a labyrinth of modern meanings embedded in Shelley’s novel, as well as the films they anticipated. In particular, Lacefield analyzes the significance of the guillotine slice itself—the uneasy, indeterminate line that simultaneously separates and joins categories such as life/death, mind/body, spirit/matter, and nature/technology. Lacefield’s interdisciplinary analysis analyzes motifs of decapitation/dismemberment in Frankenstein and then moves into a discussion of the novel’s exploration of the ontological categories specified above. For example, Frankenstein’s Creature, as a kind of cyborg, exists on the contested theoretical “slice” within a number of antinomies: nature/tech, human/inhuman (alive/dead), matter/spirit, etc. These are interesting juxtapositions that point to tensions within each set of categories, and Lacefield discusses the relevance of such dichotomies for questions of modernity posed by materialist theory and technological innovation. Additionally, she incorporates a discussion of films that fuse Shelley’s themes with appeals to twentieth-century and post-millennium audiences.

Abstract:
Imiquimod belongs to the class of 1H-imidazo-[4,5-c]quinolones—drugs originally developed as nucleoside analogues with the aim of finding new potential antiviral agents (Harrison et al., 1988). Indeed, Imiquimod was first released as treatment for genital warts before its actions against skin cancer were studied. Imiquimod is a relatively small sized molecule (Mr = 240.3) and is hydrophobic, allowing it to penetrate the skin epidermal barrier and therefore making it suitable for topical formulations (Gerster et al., 2005). Imiquimod has shown itself effective against skin cancers and precancerous lesions, especially basal cell cancers and actinic keratosis (Salasche et al., 2002, Beutner et al., 1999). There have been reports of Imiquimod being used as topical treatment against cutaneous metastases of melanoma and some authors have reported its use as first-line therapy against melanoma in situ (Smyth et al., 2011, Gagnon, 2011). We report a case of an invasive malignant melanoma arising de novo at the specific site of application of Imiquimod (Aldara cream 5%) for a biopsy-proven superficial BCC. Therefore while Imiquimod has added to our topical armamentarium against skin cancer, care must be exercised in prescribing this treatment and it is especially important to follow up patients regularly.

Abstract:
Plants are a significant reservoir of cytotoxic agents, including compounds with the ability to interfere with multidrug-resistant (MDR) cells. With the aim of finding promising candidates for chemotherapy, 91 native and naturalized plants collected from the central region of Argentina were screened for their cytotoxic effect toward sensitive and MDR P-glycoprotein (P-gp) overexpressing human leukemia cells by means of MTT assays. The ethanol extracts obtained from Aldama tucumanensis, Ambrosia elatior, Baccharis artemisioides, Baccharis coridifolia, Dimerostemma aspilioides, Gaillardia megapotamica, and Vernonanthura nudiflora presented outstanding antiproliferative activity at 50 μg/mL, with inhibitory values from 93 to 100%, when tested on the acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) cell line CCRF-CEM and the resistant derivative CEM-ADR5000, while 70–90% inhibition was observed against the chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) cell K562 and its corresponding resistant subline, Lucena 1. Subsequent investigation showed these extracts to possess marked cytotoxicity with IC50 values ranging from 0.37 to 29.44 μg/mL, with most of them being below 7 μg/mL and with ALL cells, including the drug-resistant phenotype, being the most affected. G. megapotamica extract found to be one of the most effective and bioguided fractionation yielded helenalin (1). The sesquiterpene lactone displayed IC50 values of 0.63, 0.19, 0.74, and 0.16 μg/mL against K562, CCRF-CEM, Lucena 1, and CEM/ADR5000, respectively. These results support the potential of these extracts as a source of compounds for treating sensitive and multidrug-resistant leukemia cells and support compound 1 as a lead for developing effective anticancer agents.

Abstract:
Lan honetan jurisprudentzian ezarritako zigor-kontzeptua aztertzen da, eta zera ondorioztatzen: zalantzarik gabe, zigor hutsa da Alderdi Politikoen 6/2002 Lege Organikoak ezartzen duen alderdien debekua. Konstituzio Auzitegiak arau horren izaera zigortzailea ukatzen duen arren, lan honetan argudiatzen da, ordea, errepresiozkoa baino ez dela, eta agerian uzten dira Konstituzio Auzitegiaren 48/2003 Epaiaren eta auzitegi beraren aurreko zenbait epairen arteko kontraesanak. Konstituzio Auzitegiak bis in idem nola aztertzen duen ikertzean, berriz ere egiaztatzen da auzitegi horrek aldatu egiten dituela, justifikaziorik gabe, bis in idem horren osagarriak, ordura arte jurisprudentzian irmoak omen zirenak. This work analyzes the concept of penalty established by the caselaw by deducing that the ban to political parties as regulated by Organic Act 6/2002 on Political Parties, cannot only be understood as a mere penalty. Against the Constitutional Court's line of argument, which denies its punishing character, it provides us with its merely repressive character and the existing contradiction between the Constitutional Court's judgment 78/2003 and its previous rulings. On analyzing the way the Constitutional Court analyzes the concept of non bis in idem, it shows again the unjustified modification done by the Constitutional Court on the components of the bis in idem, which so far seemed to be consolidated by the caselaw.

Iannuzzi, Giulia. "Letteratura fantascientifica italiana.

Full text
Abstract:
2011/2012

Abstract:
AbstractAldène Cave is a system of 9 km of extent, on four hydrogeological levels. Within the first two fossil levels, which comprise more than half of the system, many archaeological remains have been discovered. They represent a continuum of more than 350,000 years of human history. On the second level, we find the Paul Ambert gallery, discovered in 1948 by the Abbé Dominique Cathala. This gallery contains many human traces, with footprints and marks of torches that were brought into the cave. A recent geomorphological study of these elements concerned registration and systematic analysis of the lighting marks, as well as an initial determination of the footprints. This work confirmed the contemporaneousness and functional link of these archaeological remains. Lighting management could be determined precisely with the traces on the walls and the remains discovered on the floor in connection with the footprints. These data, investigated with a spatial approach in relation to the cave network, clarify the prehistoric passages and allow an interpretation of the behaviour of visitors. All elements together form the picture of a family at a speleological investigation, which is attributed to the Mesolithic.

Abstract:
EPA was only five weeks old on January 7, 1971, when the Court of Appeals ordered the agency to cancel all DDT registrations. The situation was fluid, to say the least. EPA did not know how the cancellation process was to be carried out, since USDA before them had never executed a cancellation procedure. There was no precedent to follow, and the parties did not agree on the rules for cancellation. The cancellation process for DDT clearly would be adversarial, with the pesticide industry already objecting. Represented by Bill Butler, EDF insisted on judicial rules of evidence with qualification of expert witnesses, testimony to be relevant to the topics at issue, and full rights of cross-examination for all parties. That was a bottom line for EDF, and EPA lawyers agreed. If a witness was qualified as expert on topic A and not on topic B, he or she could testify on A but not on B. We had learned from experience that we did not want industry representatives and salesmen or lobbyists making opinion statements and then walking away, leaving a muddy record that would be little more than a popular vote open to varied interpretations. Industry wanted that. EDF wanted competent scientists to build an accurate record, and after months of haggling, EDF and EPA ultimately prevailed. There would be judicial rules of evidence. It was a triumph for Bill Butler and EDF. Little did we know then that this procedure would influence pesticide regulation by EPA far into the future. Judicial rules of evidence proved critically important in the litigation and eventual banning of aldrin, dieldrin, chlordane, heptachlor, and mirex, as we will describe in Chapter 12. Qualified scientists and experts testified in those proceedings, and some previously vocal advocates never appeared. Since EPA had been ordered by the court to consider cancellation of all registrations of DDT, it was the DDT proponents who were bringing the appeal. They were known as the Group Petitioners. It had become the burden of industry to prove DDT safe, whereas before it had been our burden to prove hazard.

Abstract:
The last decades have seen increased consensus for the need to understand and address violence through a public health approach, and a preventative approach, as embodied by Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16. This necessitates a multi-sector and multi-stakeholder approach, yet poor governance continues to threaten progress on this agenda. Many policy approaches to urban violence tend to take an approach that is either place-based; people-based; or behaviour-based and include a range of initiatives. The INSPIRE initiative is a key global response to tackling violence against women (VAW) and violence against children (VAC) A multisector approach is needed to address the complexity and multifactorial origins of violence. Yet multisector engagement can complicate institutional responses due to different goals, concepts, instruments, etc. Increased collaboration and joined-up approaches across government departments have led to changes in institutions and approaches. The literature base on violence prevention initiatives is varied and uneven across the different types of violence, e.g. with more literature available on interventions focussed on interpersonal and urban violence compared to organised crime-related violence. Evaluations are limited and face many methodological challenges (Cuesta & Alda, 2021) – e.g. the scale and complexity of violence limits the extent to which interventions can be rigorously evaluated or comparable, and most focus on interventions in the Global North. Most importantly, the literature base for this specific question – focussed on the wider institutional context and lessons for a multisectoral approach – is very limited, as most of the available literature focusses on lessons relating to the outcomes of the interventions. In line with the operational focus of this paper, this review draws mainly on practitioner and policy publications. The approaches, interventions, and lessons detailed below are illustrative and are not comprehensive of the many complex lessons relating to this broad area of programming.
