Full textThe Bukovina region is recorded as a paradigm for the Habsburg mythical tolerance towards ethnicities and as a “German phenomenon”, since the emperor’s language was accepted here in such a welcoming way like in no other periphery. This narration comes on one side from the nostalgic memories of the inhabitants of the last generation, who later faced the end of “the world of yesterday”; on the other, from the propagandistic political discourse of the Monarchy. This study aims to illustrate the cultural landscape of the region and the actual way in which German language insinuated itself in the local social structure, trying to shed light on the reality behind the myth. By decoding the dominant position of German culture with the aid of postcolonial studies, the project presents as a subject of investigation a literary phenomenon at the turn of the 19th and the 20th century: “ethnographic literature”. In particular, the research focuses on three case studies, which are different in genre and observational approach towards the others: Ludwig Adolf Staufe Simiginowicz’ "Die Völkergruppen der Bukowina" (1884); Karl Emil Franzos’ "Aus Halb-Asien" (1876-1888); Gregor von Rezzori’s "Maghrebinische Geschichten" (1953).

Full textThis research focuses on the figure of Jesus in the Jewish anti-Christian polemical literature and his relation to the history of Jesus’ representations. I chose to draw examples from Middle Ages and Early Modern period in as much as the figure of Jesus is defined by considerations concerning his relationship with Mosaic Law and his divinity. In the multifaceted corpus of this literature, the Sefer Ḥizzuq Emunah of Yiṣḥaq ben Avraham Troqi (c. 1533-1594) has a prominent place. The themes and the style of this text is similar to earlier literature, but its reception in Christian and Jewish environments, the various translations it underwent, and the reactions that it provoked were extraordinary, validating the unprecedented bearing of this work. Another interesting question for our purposes concerns the birth and development of the instruments of the historical method. One may wonder if it is possible to place some of the first steps taken by the historical method, or some aspect of its evolution, not in an environment of objectivity but in the controversial literature, that is in the apologetic and polemical writings. In this work, I wish to draw attention to a part of literary production which certainly has no intention to investigate and return the figure of Jesus to its historical dimension; conversely, the figure of Jesus represents a tool that reinforces the deconstruction of the Christological figure, which constitutes an important element to keep in consideration. Moreover, we cannot exclude that this kind of Jewish production influenced the critical approach that has been applied to the New Testament and which has delivered a historical figure of Jesus.

Full textThanks to the joint supervision with the University of Caen and the experience of teaching Italian as a foreign language at the University for Foreigners of Perugia , it was possible to achieve a very original thesis that combines theory and practice of teaching. This is an educational tour of the Italian language , advanced level , which combines experimentally the literary text with the photo to involve learners in a linguistic and cultural reflection. After a stint in theoretical comprehensive review , which addresses the different uses of the image in the teaching of language and the relationship between photography and the literary text used for teaching the Italian language , research presents examples of educational activities and created ad hoc as well as a compilation of the results of the experiment in class. The thesis consists of three parts: the first is devoted to the use of images in general, and how they were used for the teaching of French and Italian in recent decades , and the second concerns relationship between photography and literary narrative . The third part , from a theoretical point of view, the practical ways in which literary texts and images may be used in the teaching of current Italian . In this final section , we present the results of the experimental teaching at the University for Foreigners of Perugia . The first part "Different use of the image in language teaching " an update on the role of photography in education. It begins with the distinction between illustration and photography by showing that for a long time both were misclassified as interchangeable , with the main role pedagogical support. to understand when and how the image ( illustration or photograph ) came in education, our research different courses veins methodological who recognized in the image in the photograph and a support learning in the teaching of french and Italian language. GDR-culture-specific terms in the Italian translations of Wendeliteratur Realia are expressions referring to culture-specific phenomena, which can only be understood in the particular cultural context in which they are embedded; consequently they lack a corresponding expression in the target language. In the works of contemporary German literature focusing on life in the GDR, the so called Wendeliteratur, realia are used with a “quotational” function to denote and connote the particular situation of East Germany before the fall of the Berlin Wall and in the period until Germany reunification. Starting from the existing works concerning culture-specific terms, this thesis proposes a definition of realia. Through an integrated approach joining together the different theoretical issues of the translation studies with the practical issues of the translation task, it then develops a specific taxonomy for culture-specific terms in the GDR and investigates the main translation strategies and concrete procedures through an analysis of the solutions proposed in the translated works. The different choices in the Italian versions are finally submitted to an analysis based on the isotopies containing culture-specific expressions. Realia are repeated through the text assuring its coherence, they constitute an orientation for the interpreting task of the reader/translator, they guide him/her to recognize the different levels of the textual coherence and to choose the most appropriate solutions, taking into account the different textual dimensions and the complexity of the translation task. The results of the analysis are used as reference points for the translation into Italian of Friedrich Christian Delius’ novel Die Birnen von Ribbeck.

Full textThe present work offers new insights for the understanding of the historiography of the notion of "Stilnovismo" by means of a fine-grained analysis of the poetry of Cino da Pistoia. In the first part of the work, I will provide a new analysis of the well-known Dante's passages of the De vulgari eloquentia - in which Cino's name is indissolubly linked with the name of his Florentine friend, by providing a new interpretation of the notions of 'subtilitas' and 'dulcedo'. In particular, I will offer a linguistic and stylematic analysis of the complex and multifaceted image of Cino as depicted in Dante's treatise. The proposed analysis aims to challenge the alleged identification of Cino with a mild ‘sweetness’ flair, by looking at his linguistic structures and lexical choices reminding of pre-stilnovismo and Guittone's poetry. The last section offers a comparison with Dante's poetry and assesses Cino's versatility and sensitivity to poetry practices outdistancing the poetry 'koinè' represented by Dante's 'dolce stile'.

Full textThis research work aims at investigating the role of the mother in contemporary literary works by Israeli women writers, with particular focus on its relationship with the problem of identity formation in male characters. More specifically, this analysis is an attempt to demonstrate how the rejection of the typical model of the Jewish Israeli mother is strictly linked to the refusal of the sabra image, and how the search of a new Israeli identity coincides with the quest for a new mother figure, mainly concerning her national mission. The main subject of this research project is the reappearance of the mother figure as a literary character in Israeli fiction, or more precisely in women’s fiction. This presence could be interpreted as the violation of the twofold influence of the «European oedipal-Freudian narrative» and «the Zionist oedipal rebellion against Jewish culture» that «has, by and large, marginalized the mother» as theorized by Yael Feldman. This connection highlights how the rejection of some aspects of the mother stereotype is necessarily linked to the refusal of the Zionist meta-plot and how the theme of the maternal responsibility as it appears in recent works of Israeli women writers involves the problem of the definition of the post-sabra identity. This research work draws in particular on the short story Parah ‘al shem Virginia written by Savyon Liebrecht, the novel Dolly City written by Orly Castel-Bloom and the novel Hitparzut X written by Edna Mazya. From a methodological point of view the literary analysis of these works is developed consistently with the theories of the écriture féminine framed in France in the ’70

Full textLa tesi di dottorato di ricerca “Testi e Linguaggi nelle Letterature dell’Europa e delle Americhe” è in letteratura ispano-americana ed è divisa in tre capitoli: Nel primo capitolo dal titolo Mito, storia e letteratura nella Mesoamerica, ho analizzato i fenomeni culturali che si sono succeduti in quell’area in tempi preispanici, soffermandomi in seguito sull’incontro/scontro tra Europa e America nel periodo della conquista e concludendo con un’analisi dei processi storico-culturali messicani fino ai giorni nostri. Il secondo capitolo, La letteratura “indipendente”, è uno studio sulla letteratura ispano-americana contemporanea, in particolare sull’indigenismo, sul realismo magico, sulla nueva novela hispanoamericana e sui loro principali rappresentati in tutta l’America Latina ma soprattutto in Messico. Nell’ultima parte ho introdotto lo scrittore messicano Carlos Fuentes, esaminando il suo rapporto con la nueva novela hispanoamericana, anche titolo di un suo saggio nel quale analizza i cambiamenti avvenuti nel romanzo del ‘900 in America Latina. Il terzo e ultimo capitolo, dal titolo Carlos Fuentes e i miti preispanici, è il capitolo centrale verso il quale tendono i primi due: dopo aver analizzato le idee dello scrittore messicano sulle funzioni della letteratura e sull’importanza del mito precolombiano come espressione della cultura messicana, ho focalizzato la mia attenzione sulla presenza della cosmovisione indigena nella sua narrativa – romanzi e racconti ambientati sia in epoche passate, a partire dalla conquista, sia nella contemporaneità – con particolare riguardo al rapporto tra mito e storia, presente soprattutto nel grande romanzo Terra Nostra. Ho messo in luce quella che mi è sembrata la caratteristica della sua scrittura e una novità nel panorama letterario messicano e, più in generale, ispanoamericano: aver sdoganato la cosmogonia indigena dall’ambito della “alterità” temporale (il passato precolombiano) e geografico-sociale (ambienti extraurbani, mondo rurale): nei romanzi e racconti di Fuentes è proprio nella modernità urbana e colta che si manifestano fenomeni direttamente legati al mondo indigeno, quasi un ultimo, disperato tentativo di affermare una identità meticcia, profondamente minacciata dal globalizzato e globalizzante imperialismo culturale ed economico europeo e statunitense. Ho tentato, quindi, di creare un sistema di sinergie tra le sue opere creative e saggistiche perché attraverso tutti i generi letterari, secondo lo scrittore, è possibile riempire i vuoti della storia. Per Fuentes infatti la letteratura è «la forma potencial donde tiempos y espacios se dan cita imaginaria, se conocen y se recrean. Full textThis dissertation analyses urban spatial representations in contemporary utopian and science fiction novels, published in the last decade and written in English, with a particular attention devoted to the relationship between space and the characters who inhabit and live that space. The thesis is structured in five chapters. The analysis of the three texts considered - On Such a Full Sea by Chang-rae Lee (2014, cfr. Cap. 3), Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel (2014, cfr. Cap. 4) and MaddAddam, by Margaret Atwood (2013, cfr. Cap. 5) - shows an overall dystopian landscape in which the traditional city has disappeared, and a new fragmentation of communities is prevailing. In such a scenario, however, the subjects who embody a utopian impulse embrace a diasporic status which enables him/her to counteract, as a political gesture, against the dystopian space and its powers. The texts can be considered the heirs of science-fiction and fantasy author Ursula K. Le Guin and her short story “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas” (1973), in which the inhabitants of a seemingly utopian city choose to leave it because of what they consider to be an unbearable injustice. As a way of a political gesture, they decide to start walking away from the city towards an unknown destination and to never come back. The first chapter presents the main theoretical references of the research: utopian studies, space studies, literary space studies, the notion of diaspora borrowed from Postcolonial Theory, theories revolving around walking as a cultural and political act, nomadism. The second chapter presents the corpus and the dystopian genre, with a particular focus on ‘critical dystopias.’ The last three chapters consist of the analysis.

L’analisi delle più importanti edizioni tibulliane circolanti nel territorio nazionale consente di individuare diverse fasi di sviluppo della presenza dell’elegiaco nell’editoria dei secoli XV-XX. Per quel che concerne l’insegnamento, sono stati presi in considerazione non solo volumi destinati all’apprendimento, ma anche programmi scolastici, testimonianze e giudizi di carattere morale inerenti all’autore e alla sua presenza fra le letture dei giovani. Per quanto riguarda la letteratura, l’influsso di Tibullo è costante, non solo in poesia, ma anche in prosa, nella produzione volgare e in quella neolatina. L’analisi dei procedimenti imitativi ha consentito di ricostruire una storia della cospicua fortuna letteraria di questo poeta. Allo scopo di realizzare la presente ricerca, ho compulsato e schedato 318 edizioni, di cui 102 a uso scolastico, e analizzato brani appartenenti alla produzione letteraria di 110 autori italiani.

Full textLa ricerca di cui la tesi presentata raccoglie una prima serie di risultati individua un tema di cui è agevole cogliere la rilevanza, oltre che per una storia della fortuna all'estero della nostra letteratura dell'ultimo secolo, per un ambito di interessi individuato dalla crescente importanza delle relazioni culturali tra l'Italia e il mondo arabo, caratterizzate negli ultimi decenni anche dal fenomeno della migrazione che ha accelerato e arricchito di stimoli e di urgenze le ragioni di un confronto complessivo di orizzonti di civiltà. Se la mediazione in lingua italiana del patrimonio letterario arabo ha una sua consolidata storia accademica, la conoscenza dell'attenzione del mondo arabo per la cultura italiana che si manifesta attraverso la traduzione di opere della nostra letteratura è assai più frammentata, così come d'altra parte ancora episodica è la vicenda che essa dovrebbe testimoniare. I tentativi di puntualizzare il quadro delle traduzioni in arabo di testi letterari italiani che è possibile ricordare non sono numerosi. Tra gli esempi censiti dalla tesi del dott. Selmi ci si limita a rammentare i convegni del 1980 e del 1993 dedicati rispettivamente a La presenza culturale italiana nei paesi arabi: storia e prospettive (Napoli 28-30 maggio 1980) e Tradurre e interpretare nel dialogo italo-maghrebino (Cartagine 18 febbraio 1993) o più recentemente all'intervento di Ahmed Somai, professore di lingua e letteratura italiana presso l'Università Manouba di Tunisi, nel convegno internazionale La cultura italiana nel mondo (Pescara 2001). Anche in questi casi si prende atto di una attenzione prevalente, come in parte comprensibile, ai classici, che hanno una consolidata preminenza nelle tradizionali rappresentazioni storiche della vicenda della letteratura italiana. Il capitolo novecentesco si ritaglia uno spazio alquanto limitato.

A final chapter is devoted to the theme of the revaluation of woman in the Persian romance.
