Full textAgriculture 4.0, also known under several aliases such as ‘digital agriculture', ‘smart farming', and ‘e-farming' is currently developing rapidly in terms of research, development, and commercial applications. As with Agriculture 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0, the objective of Agriculture 4.0 is the use of technology to improve all areas of agriculture. In Agriculture 4.0 it is the application of microelectronics and microtechnologies. Unlike before, these technologies bring things such as the internet-of-things, big data, telecommunications, novel sensing, rapid feedback, data analysis, connectivity, artificial intelligence etc. In principle, all these areas should result in a massive modernization of farming in terms of organisation, yield, efficiency, and quality of produce. However, Agriculture 4.0 is so vast that if one is to contribute to it, even in a minor way, one has to choose a specific area to contribute. The area chosen for the study in this PhD was flax fibre production. Flax fibres are naturally strong fibres which can be extracted from flax stems. The flax stems have evolved to have robust micrometre-diameter fibres running the length of the outside of the stem, and held in place in the external tissue of the stem. Once extracted and isolated, flax fibres have numerous applications ranging from textiles to composite materials. In order to facilitate the mechanical extraction of flax fibres from their parent stems, the stems undergo a process known as ‘retting'. Retting leads to the breakdown of the external tissue between the fibres. A common form of retting is known as ‘dew retting'. In dew retting, natural processes such as bacteria and fungi result in enzymes which break down the middle lamella and gradually separate fibre bunches and fibres from bunches. The length of dew retting depends heavily on the weather. Too little retting results in difficult fibre extraction in the factory, too much retting can result in a compromise in fibre quality. It has long been known that there is an optimum retting point-even the ancients knew this. Certain skilled artisan farmers are able to judge this point via a combination of manual manipulation of the stems, observation of damage caused to the external tissue via this manoeuvre, and also observing the colour and the smell of the stems during this very skilled, but artisanal, testing. It is clear that the artisan is performing rudimentary laboratory tests quite literally ‘in-the-field'. It would seem logical therefore to try to quantify such tests and see if a reliable tool can be made to help the artisan. And indeed, this is exactly what others have attempted. The introduction of the PhD gives examples of attempts to make optimal-retting tools in the 1980s and after. Inspired by this early work, the work of this PhD attempts a full multiscale mechanical characterization of flax stems and fibres during a retting cycle (summer 2022) and, somewhat ambitiously, performed in real time-to our knowledge for the first time. The mechanical characterization involved macroscopic mechanical tests (bending, crushing, and twisting), as well as novel microscopic mechanical testing of single flax fibres using novel methods inspired by MEMS. In addition, the nanoscopic mechanical properties of the primary cell wall of retting flax fibres was characterised using nanoindentation AFM. As the experimental work, analysis via analytical modelling, and interpretation descends in scale from macro, through micro, to nano, we learn a little more of how the retting affects the stems, their properties, and their fibres. In addition to simply learning, a very positive outcome of the PhD is that one is able to suggest a mechanically-induced damage mechanism in stems which could be the basis for a tool. One can note however, that the uncontrollable multiparameter nature of the subject, e.g. the weather, means that several studies would be needed to confirm beyond doubt observations from a single retting cycle

Abstract: The change in the relationship between the public and the media and also between the journalist and its own profession after the emergence of the wireless connection to the Internet and the online social networking sites are the starting point of this study. To investigate this new scenario, we take as object the Brazilian vehicle Catraca Livre, which publishes material produced by its journalists and complements its content with the help of a network of collaborators. Based on the concepts of network society, participatory culture and curation, we understand that the public stops being passive and becomes a produser, and also the journalist leaves the position of gatekeeper and assumes the role of curator. And, rethinking the reception and defining it now as a dissemination, we investigate how the network centered on the fanpage of Catraca Livre, with the help of Graph Theory and node and network metrics, in order to understand how the information published by Catraca Livre profile on Facebook circulate through the connections established among the various nodes, making the vehicle fanpage a technical resource of spreadable media. At the end, we point out that the business model proposed by the site is viable and adapted to the networked society; the journalist assumes the role of curator, but does not abandon his traditional duties; and although its potential in RSO is still poorly explored, Catraca Livre is able to disseminate its content in the network.

This study approaches the relations of family and school, from the perspective of the family. It aims to analyze the meanings attributed by family to the school as a space for plural relationships, and understand the relations that these mothers constitute culturally with schools and their everyday pedagogical practices. When we seek to understand this problematic, it was established as guiding principles of the search in/from/with everyday life. Accordingly, we focused on, as main interlocutors, mothers and authors such as Certeau (1994), Morin (2000) and Freire (1978), among others, on the understanding that cultural diversity is an essential element of the complex relationship between family and public school, because they come from different cultural contexts. In the course of the research it was made the use of the procedure of dialogic conversation as a production process and information analysis. The current analysis highlights that families observe the difference between cultural and report that they are from different socio-political context set by the school, they came from rural areas and their lives were marked by the struggle for survival, and the work activity has been present since their childhood. For the families that participated in this research the school is/was not part of the cultural repertoire significance in their lives and it feels that they attribute to them, are in negotiations with their symbolic universe. The mothers hold a speech of a schoolar binding and pertencing, but the school has the time as possible in their daily lives. Thus, the dynamics of family and school relationships, is configured as complex, and the ambiguity in maternal speech marks a thinking/doing about the school in which they demonstrate ways of making the common man, involving the art of duplicity of the saying and doing, gimmnicks and antidiscipline

Full textThis research focuses on the concept of « linking value », applied to mutualist insurance companies, in order to contribute to the revival of their core values and democratic ideals. It is fed by the evolutions of contemporary society, where chosen consumption is progressively replacing mass consumerism, thus moderating the producer-consumer dichotomy, which allows new types of relationships between actors to emerge. The progressive disappearance of the borders between consumption actors is key to our work, as the mutualist insurance companies’ stakeholders build new types of relations, beyond classic consumption relations, which yields not only exchange value and use value, but also a linking value. The concept of linking value was originally developed by social science, and further brand community developments have led to mobilize this notion in the marketing field. Its usage in the field of insurance services is new. Our work comprises a survey among members of Groupe Macif, including interviews with Macif employees, Macif delegates, and Macif’s historic founder. Linking value is an “evasive object”, and we had to implement a specific research methodology in order to bring it to light and characterize it within the company. To analyze the interviews, we used an appropriate coding technique, through dedicated software (Modalisa). The research is carried through a double data analysis method, named etic - emic (or horizontal – vertical), aimed first at understanding what has a meaning in the respondent’s locutions, and then at identifying the elements of structure of the linking value from the meanings identified. Such reasoning requires that the interviewer has empathy capacities with the respondents. Our research brings the following results: • First, we qualify the “link experience” based on emotions, a reciprocity intention, an ethical functioning and shared confidence. • We then propose a characterization of linking value in the mutualist field, based on an extension to Rémy’s typology (2000), which is the current reference for services companies. • Next, we show how linking value emerges, depending on it being based on a priori activism, or on a posteriori relationship between the employees and the policy holder. • We establish the main characteristics of linking value: its capacity to temper the otherness created by the contract, an asymmetry between the partners of the exchange, the very lack of community feelings among members. • We expose the privileged expression vectors for this linking value: the empathy deployed by company’s employees and the solidarity schemes. • Recognition emerges also as a foundation to linking value. We register our reasoning in the field of recognition theory, as it founds an ethic of interpersonal relationship, constituent of social link. The mutual recognition dynamics allows each individual to experience a “collective revival”, and to share his belonging to a political or ethical community, without losing his identity. Mutualist insurance companies need to recognize such a pluralist community, in which each individual sees himself in the purpose of a company model, as this recognition founds linking value. We finally show that resuming the democratic ideals that historically founded Mutualist Associations is what will allow them to restore an authentic social link, in the spirit of modern mutualism

Full textThis project undertakes an analysis of the Crystal Easel, exhibition apparatus created in the late 1950s by the Italian-Brazilian architect Lina Bo Bardi as the central element in the expographic composition of the Museu de Arte de São Paulo, MASP. Taking the spatial solution for which the apparatus was planned and the curatorial discourse embedded in it as starting point, the study will show that the design of this object created a singular expographic grammar that, even after its extinction in 1996, continues to reverberate forcefully in international discussions about the challenges of displaying art in museums today. This research relects the need to turn our attention to Lina Bo Bardi\'s proposal, evidencing the validity of resuming the museum\'s original proposal as a way to recover a fundamental space for cultural experience in the city of São Paulo - a museum which, like few others, was born of a deep understanding of the particularities of Brazilian culture.

In the works of contemporary German literature focusing on life in the GDR, the so called Wendeliteratur, realia are used with a “quotational” function to denote and connote the particular situation of East Germany before the fall of the Berlin Wall and in the period until Germany reunification. Starting from the existing works concerning culture-specific terms, this thesis proposes a definition of realia. Through an integrated approach joining together the different theoretical issues of the translation studies with the practical issues of the translation task, it then develops a specific taxonomy for culture-specific terms in the GDR and investigates the main translation strategies and concrete procedures through an analysis of the solutions proposed in the translated works. The different choices in the Italian versions are finally submitted to an analysis based on the isotopies containing culture-specific expressions. Full textI have done my paper in quest of “neutral Italian”, that national, standard, unitary language which is a model for all regional and individual variations. I have dealt with the topic historically : I have singled out the most meaningful stages of this cultural debate (an essential component of the matter of the Italian language) examining school curricula, theories and lack of implementation. The first part of my paper focuses on the dichotomy between plain language and dialect while the second part deals with the contrasting realities of “neutral Italian” and “regional Italians” The cultural debate has shown the existence of continuing interest in a linguistic model for the spoken language tracing a sort of “geometrical” history of the language, going from the Florentine hub, to the “ Florence-Rome axis” and then to the “ northern triangle” finally to get to the most recent theories about the “geophonic centre”. As regards the school world I have detected the lack of an efficacious, structured linguistic policy on the spoken language other than on the written and the grammatical one.

Full textComposite materials based on natural reinforcements are constantly evolving towards products that are either the least expensive or the most efficient, and ideally both at the same time. For the sake of environmental protection and public health, their use has become a major issue and will be even more in the near future and in the long term. The automotive industry, for example, is increasingly interested in plant fibers in order to use renewable and sustainable materials, and to lighten vehicles whose mass is responsible for 75% of fuel consumption (cellulose fibers are 30 % less dense than glass fibers). It is in this context that this research work takes place, whose main objective is to study the effect of the transformation parametersof textile flax (scutching, hackling and homogenization) as well as the effect of its conditions of culture (degrees of maturity and retting) on the physicochemical and mechanical characteristics of technical flax fibers and the mechanical performance of the associated biobased flax /epoxy composite materials, produced by thermocompression. For each flax Modalities (reference, transformation and culture), technical flax fibers are characterized by Van Soest method, X-ray diffraction, pycnometry, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy in order to determine and compare respectively their biochemical composition, crystallinity index, density, thermal stability and morphology as well as the different chemical bonds present on the surface. The tensile mechanical properties of each technical flax fiber, unidirectional veil of flax fiber and thermopressed bio-based composite material are also determined. A new method, considering temperature and relative humidity during tensile tests, is proposed to calculate the cross section of technical flax fiber. The results of the transformation campaign show that the flax hackling step can be deleted without affecting the mechanical properties of the proposed bio-based composite materials. The results of the culture campaign show a slight effect of the degrees of maturity and retting of technical flax fibers on the mechanical properties of the biobased composite materials produced. It appears that the degrees of maturity and retting of flax impact their rigidity and breaking properties, respectively

Full textAlthough women were excluded from the public life, politics, the right of citizenship and History, at least in the centuries that preceded the 19th and the first half of the 20th century there is, nevertheless, a situation in which they were recognized in a very privileged way and that went beyond their private lives: dance, the language of the body. This paper aims to trace the history of the womans body through dance, specifically the ciranda (a popular dance) by Lia do Itamaraçá. The objective is to analyze what is determined in the feminine by the body and what is imaginary and from this point of view verify whether the ciranda produces a body Other, different from the bio-power as stated by Foucault. Finally, we would like to find the libertarian actions effectuation that would shape as the breakage of the corporeity limits imposed by society.
