Full textDue to their low cost, lightness and thermal properties, lignocellulosic byproducts received a particular attention, in the recent years, for manufacturing lightweight concretes. However, these byproducts are not fully compatible with the cement matrix, leading to setting delay, significant dimensional variations, and low mechanical strengths of the composites elaborated. To avoid such drawbacks, a coating process of flax shives using different substances has been adopted in this study. It leads to a reduction in treated shive water absorption compared to raw shives. The composites obtained exhibit significant improvements in hydrous behavior and mechanical strengths with moderate increase in the apparent bulk density and thermal conductivity. The phenomena of moisture transfer in the produced composites can significantly influence the durability and performance of them. In fact most of the materials used in the building area are porous, containing water as vapor or liquid. Therefore the water vapour permeability, sorption isotherms and moisture buffering capacity have been determined. The results obtained show the good hygric performance of the eco-composites elaborated. Three leaching tests have been proposed in this study to identify the chemical speciation of the materials and to evaluate their releasing into the environment. The experimental conditions of the leaching tests have been chosen to simulate different states of our composites in external environments in service or end of life. The leaching behaviour of the cement-based products elaborated differs little according to flax shive treatment and the leaching of toxic substances has not been identified

Full textThis work is done in the processes and materials engineering group of the Laboratory of innovating technologies of the University of Picardy Jules Verne. The main goal of this work is the valorization of vegetables’ byproducts, specifically the use of flax shives as aggregates in cementitious matrix. Flax shives, like all lignocellulosic materials, are known by their high hydrophilic properties. During concrete confection, shives absorb mixing and inhibit the cement hydration. To optimize their use, these shives must be hydorphobisated. Treated shives are characterized by SEM, FTIR, water absorption…. Then, the impact of these treatments on the hydration of cement matrix and the physico-chemicals characteristics of composites are quantified and evaluated. The second way explored in this thesis is the matrix treatment. These treatments are done using molecules extracted from the biomass. The elaborated composites show a high competitive properties in comparison with composites prepared with commercial vegetables aggregates

Full textSince the 90s, new composite materials have emerged in the industrial domain : environmental constraints and new regulations on the recycling of composite materials have pushed the industry to develop new materials from renewable resources. The objective of this study is to acquire knowledge of resources and tools for the design and implementation of a 100% agro-sourced core of sandwich structure satisfying mechanical, thermal and acoustic features. This work consists of developing methods for elaborating self-bonding composites, agro-linking composites and thermopressed plates, thereby promoting the products of lesser quality flax plant (flax-tow and shives). The interaction method-product is more than ever true in the case of this new family of agro-sourced composites. Experimental elaboration development and characterization have been established. They aim to establish a link between raw materials (anas and flax tow), the manufacturing process and the desired properties (mechanical, thermal and acoustic). Regarding the modelling tools, the relevance of various micromechanical and thermal models was evaluated. These models must obviously take into account the mechanical, thermal and acoustic properties of components as well as the geometric and structural parameters (ratio of reinforcements on length-diameter – fiber orientation). This step is difficult due to the complexity of materials and the variability of the components. However, it is necessary if there is need to provide, in the future, a tool for decision support in selecting an optimal combination of acoustic, thermal and mechanical features. This thesis has allowed proposing several multi-performance materials with very interesting mechanical, acoustic and thermal performances with good prospects

Full textThis study aims at eco-designing a structural part, of a hollow beam type, using a laminated flax fibre based bio-composite. The part needs to satisfy a given bending and torsion load case and show compatibility with the cleaning products used in the medical environment. The objective of the study is to investigate the potential of using a flax tow as the reinforcement input for the manufacturing of the beam. The particularity of the reinforcement is that it consists of an assembly of aligned flax fibres held together by a binder as opposed to spun yarns. First, in order to establish the required manufacturing specifications, the mechanical behaviour of the bio-composite at the ply scale, at the laminated and finally at the laminated beam scale was modelled. From this modelling, design and dimensioning criteria based on bending and torsional stiffness were developed analytically. Combining this approach with the choice of the reinforcement, the wet-filament winding process was chosen to manufacture the part. Thus, the tensile behaviour of the flax tow was studied in relation to the process parameters to demonstrate their compatibility. This second phase was followed by the manufacturing of prototypes according the established specifications which were then analysed in terms of quality and mechanical performance. The correlation between experimental results and the model predictions was used to validate the dimensioning approach. Finally and in order to incorporate the interaction of the part with the environment, a durability study was conducted. The latter allows to put forward different dimensioning strategies to meet the required specification

Full textMicroalgae are one of the most promising renewable resource for future sustainable food. Thanks to their diversity of metabolism, these microorganisms can synthesize a wide range of compounds of interest with high nutritional value. However, their consumption remains limited because of their intrinsic organoleptic characteristics unattractive. To tackle this problem and to overcome these barriers, this thesis was focused on the development of a production process of food ingredient from spirulina.A green and innovative method using ultrasonic technology for the extraction of proteins from Arthrospira platensis was proposed in a first part. This is the manothermosonication (MTS). The use of an experimental plan made it possible to optimize extraction parameters; and mathematical modeling and microscopic investigations led to an understanding of the mass transfer phenomena on the one hand, and the structural effects of ultrasound on spirulina filaments on the other hand. According to the experimental results, MTS allowed to obtain 229 % more proteins (28.42 ± 1.15 g / 100 g DW) compared to the conventional method without ultrasound (8.63 ± 1.15 g / 100 g DW). With 28.42 g of protein per 100 g of spirulina in the extract, a protein recovery rate of 50% was achieved in 6 minutes with a continuous MTS process. Based on these promising results, extrapolation tracks have been studied in order to propose decision support tools for process industrialization. Thus, a risk analysis procedure (HACCP & HAZOP), a cost study as well as the environmental impact of the process were developed in a second part of this work. Lastly, ways of exploiting by-products have been presented in a biorefinery approach

"Reconnaissance automatisée de points d’intérêts pour un robot d’inspection dans un environnement contraint et dégradé : inspection visuelle et chimique par un robot hexapode." Full textThe thesis subject concerns the automatic recognition of points of interest (PI) for an inspection robot in a constrained and degraded environment. The objective of this thesis work is to develop a robotic platform capable of carrying out autonomous missions based on detected visual and chemical PIs, a so-called bimodal problem. The combination of visual and chemical percepts optimizes localization accuracy and ensures information redundancy. The field of study concerns 3 application cases: case 1, the inspection is carried out in a confined space (industrial environment). Case 2, the inspection is carried out in an environment with a proven risk of loss of signal and predominantly rocky (mine, underground quarry). Case 3, the inspection is carried out in an environment that has undergone significant deformations and therefore a modified and chaotic geometry of the inspection sites (natural disasters such as earthquakes or landslides in an urban environment). In this study, a contextual case analysis method is proposed and presented in order to analyze the constraints of the different complex environments for the robotic solution. The thesis therefore brings together different issues: the study of environmental constraints, the choice of the robotic solution, autonomous navigation and visual and chemical servoing. Following this contextual analysis, a state of the art is oriented on the terrestrial robotic platform to determine the most suitable robotic solution to operate in the 3 application cases. The hexapod robots were chosen for their ability to overcome obstacles, their stability, and their carrying capacity for sensors, in particular. A method is proposed to reach the source of the percept in an unstructured environment by relying on visual and chemical PIs. For the evaluation of the proposed methodology, the visual PIs considered are of the QR code type and the detection of the concentration of a gas concerning chemical servoing. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is first demonstrated by simulations. Finally, a hexapod prototype is designed, built and developed using the ROS software architecture. The developed hexapod carried out a mission within an industrial environment and inside a shipbuilding including a series of obstacles (case 1 of the study). The results of this robotic approach arefinally presented, commented and discussed
