Abstract:
AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to present a brief discussion of both the normed space of operator p-summable sequences in a Banach space and the normed space of sequentially p-limited operators. The focus is on proving that the vector space of all operator p-summable sequences in a Banach space is a Banach space itself and that the class of sequentially p-limited operators is a Banach operator ideal with respect to a suitable ideal norm- and to discuss some other properties and multiplication results of related classes of operators. These results are shown to fit into a general discussion of operator [Y,p]-summable sequences and relevant operator ideals.

Abstract:
Urban public space is now getting scarce and becoming an important element in the residential or housing environment. The existence of public space will meet the needs for social interaction, economic and cultural phenomena. Genteng Candirejo, which is one of the kampongs in Surabaya, has its uniqueness in the utilization of its public space by cultivating herbs and hydroponics in an open public space (alley/yard), developing the making of traditional snacks which are carried out together in closed public space (living room or hall). This study aims to examine the resilience of the residents in Genteng Candirejo on space (character and function of space) and activities carried out by the residents in public spaces in supporting the social, economic, and cultural community, with the challenges of limited public space. With the method of field observation and interviews, this study shows resilience to the shape, surface/appearance, and space (characteristic and function of the space) both in open and closed public spaces in Genteng Candirejo shown by the improvement of the environment quality, the creation of greening, the beauty of the surrounding environment which has a visual aesthetic value, and an increase in income for the community with the growth of small and medium enterprises (UKM). That is in line with the concept of green and clean launched by the Surabaya city government.

Abstract:
Vegetables that contain most of the essential components of human nutrition are perishable and cannot be stocked. To secure vegetable supply in space limited cities such as Singapore, there are different farming methods to produce vegetables. These include low-cost urban community gardening and innovative rooftop and vertical farms integrated with various technologies such as hydroponics, aquaponics and aeroponics. However, for large-scale vegetable production in space-limited Singapore, we need to develop farming systems that not only increase productivity many-fold per unit of land but also produce all types of vegetable, all year-round for today and the future. This could be resolved through integrated vertical aeroponic farming system. Manipulation of root-zone (RZ) environments such as cooling the RZ, modifying mineral nutrients and introducing elevated RZ CO2 using aeroponics can further boost crop productivity beyond what can be achieved from more efficient use of land area. We could also adopt energy saving light emitting diodes (LEDs) for vertical aeroponic farming system to promote uniform growth and to improve the utilisation of limited space via shortening the growth cycle, thus improving vegetable production in a cost-effective manner.

Abstract:
Anastasia’s Journeys was a temporary exhibition in the Australian History Museum, Macquarie University, Australia. Developed from the oral history of a post-World War Two Russian immigrant who survived Stalin’s policies of forced collectivisation and engineered famine, the display communicated primarily through audio tracks, supported by text panels and objects. This article articulates the creative tensions between theory and practice of public history which were encountered when planning the target audience, content, and design of the exhibition. It describes the process by which the oral history was placed at the centre of the presentation while objects were used both to illustrate changing social situations and introduce an opposing interpretation. The attributes of the oral history which made it suitable for an audio presentation are then discussed.

Abstract:
Approximate matrix multiplication with limited space has received ever-increasing attention due to the emergence of large-scale applications. Recently, based on a popular matrix sketching algorithm---frequent directions, previous work has introduced co-occuring directions (COD) to reduce the approximation error for this problem. Although it enjoys the space complexity of O((m_x+m_y)l) for two input matrices X∈ℝ^{m_x ╳ n} and Y∈ℝ^{m_y ╳ n} where l is the sketch size, its time complexity is O(n(m_x+m_y+l)l), which is still very high for large input matrices. In this paper, we propose to reduce the time complexity by exploiting the sparsity of the input matrices. The key idea is to employ an approximate singular value decomposition (SVD) method which can utilize the sparsity, to reduce the number of QR decompositions required by COD. In this way, we develop sparse co-occuring directions, which reduces the time complexity to Õ((nnz(X)+nnz(Y))l+nl^2) in expectation while keeps the same space complexity as O((m_x+m_y)l), where nnz(X) denotes the number of non-zero entries in X and the Õ notation hides constant factors as well as polylogarithmic factors. Theoretical analysis reveals that the approximation error of our algorithm is almost the same as that of COD. Furthermore, we empirically verify the efficiency and effectiveness of our algorithm.

Abstract:
Mott and Gurney point out1, for defect-free semiconductors, I-V curve deviates from linear Ohmic type to nonlinear space-charge limited behavior at high electric field. A surprising large magnetoresistance (MR) has been reported in space-charge limited region by Delmo2-4recently. In present work, I-V and MR curves of silicon samples with different doping concentration are measured. It is observed that I-V curve enters into space charge region at lower voltage in heavily doped samples, however, space-charge limited current is absent in lightly doped samples. Two samples show different types of MR curve. In heavily doped samples, 8% MR is acquired at 3kG and the value of MR increases linearly up to 17%, while MR increases slowly up to 11% in lightly doped samples. It is believed that the dopant and trap in N-type silicon has a strong influence on the space-charge limited current and MR.
