Il saggio sottolinea il particolare rilievo che assume la presenza del- 1'avverbio e pronome ghi in area corsa, e specificamente nei dialetti di Ajaccio, Calvi, La Maddalena e Capraia, quale esempio rappresentativo di una commistione lin­ guistica corso-ligure che si verificò durante la fase secolare dell'amministrazione genovese della Corsica (1294-1768). La riflessione su questo caso specifico si allarga in una considerazione più ampia dell'apporto ligure nei dialetti corsi, spesso mini­ mizzato per motivi di ordine culturale e ideologico ma in realtà assai piu consistente di quanto si ritenga. Esso non si ridusse in particolare a un apporto lessicale (che per di più molti considerano, a torto, alquanto limitato) ma interferì nella struttura fonetica e (come mostra il caso specifico) grammaticale di alcune varietà maggior­ mente esposte, quelle formatesi o ristrutturatesi nell'ambito di processi di conver­ genza tra le varietà liguri dei centri urbani della Corsica e i dialetti corsi che anda­ vano progressivamente sovrapponendovisi.

Abstract:
This article aims to compare some traits that characterise the syntax of the noun phrase in the Occitan/Ligurian amphizone (i.e., contact area) that lies at the border between southern France and northwestern Italy. The dialects spoken in this area differ in several syntactic traits that emerged in a situation of contact between dialects of different subgroups (Ligurian and Occitan), two roofing languages (Italian and French), and regional contact languages such as Genoese. In particular, I will elaborate on the syntax of mass and indefinite plural nouns, on the co-occurrence of determiners and possessives, and on the syntax of kinship terms. From an I-language perspective, the fine variation observed at the Occitan/Ligurian border raises two types of research questions: (a) which comparative concepts best capture the observed variation; (b) whether intraclade contact (i.e., contact between languages of the same branch) can contribute relevant evidence and arguments to the debate concerning the biological endowment of the language faculty.

Syntagmatic verbs are widespread in Germanic languages. However, they are also present in different varieties of Italian, including Ligurian dialects. Starting from a Genoese corpus extracted from a popular 19th century novel, the author shows their independent status by means of a semantic and syntactic analysis. An appropriate description is currently missing in grammars and dictionaries. Therefore, the author outlines a possible lexicographical treatment.

Abstract:
This article investigates indefinite DPs in some Romance varieties spoken in border contexts between linguistic groups. Specifically, we will consider Occitan and Franco-Provençal varieties of western Piedmont, the western Ligurian dialects, the Lombard-Alpine dialects, and Romansh, also in comparison with other North-Italian systems. The central issue is the nature of the construcs DE + article/Bare Noun of Italian varieties, where the preposition de/di (DE) ‘of’ does not introduce the usual possessive or partitive PPs, but DPs with indefinite reading. In negative contexts, such phrases mostly require the narrow scope interpretation. We argue that DE + bare noun constructs, as generally bare partitives, are based on the lexical properties of the preposition DE.

Abstract:
This contribution addresses a set of phenomena attested in the dialects spoken in Piedmont, including Franco-Provençal and Occitan varieties, and in West Liguria, concerning the interaction between subject and object clitics. Complementarily to these phenomena, we find the interplay between the realization of the 3rd person clitic and the auxiliary. More specifically, we will investigate the object-for-subject mechanism in the Piedmontese and Franco-Provençal dialects, the one of subject-with-object in some Franco-Provençal dialects and their possible interaction with the auxiliary. In some Piedmontese dialects, the alternation between be and have affects the distribution of subject and object clitics; in particular, the 3rd person clitic can occur in all persons, where it can be ambiguous between the subject or the object reading. The relation between the verb and the realization of its argumental clitics, and the interaction between auxiliaries and clitics are the main topics of this work. Our approach relies on the idea that clitics are the realization of φ-features associated with v and T and that auxiliaries are not functional elements but verbs with lexical properties. The theoretical frame we follow is the formulation recently proposed by Chomsky, based on the operation Merge and the Labeling Algorithm, leading to a more appropriate conceptualization of morpho-syntactic structures.

Abstract:
In addition to twelve recognized minority languages (Law no. 482/1999), Italy features a number of non-recognized so-called “dialects” that is difficult to state, but which renowned linguists like Tullio De Mauro and Giulio Lepschy calculate as ranging between 12 and 15. These languages are still spoken (and sometimes written) by slightly less than half of the Italian population and are the first languages of a significant part of it. Some of them even have a history of (semi)official usage and feature large and interesting literary traditions. An introduction on the linguistic situation in Italy, the classification of its “dialects” and their state of endangerment, is followed by discussion of the present (scant) legislation and action being taken to protect the seven language varieties chosen as case studies: Piedmontese, Western Lombard/Milanese, Venetan, Ligurian/Genoese, Roman, Neapolitan and Sicilian. These language planning strategies are discussed particularly in terms of graphization (corpus planning), status and acquisition planning, even when, as in most cases, this “planning” may be uncoordinated and even unconscious. The article closes with a few general considerations and with some suggestions on how these initiatives could be improved.

AbstractThe mating call of Pelodytes punctatus from Algarve (Southern Portugal) is composed of two multipulsed motives, "a" and "b", lasting about 200 ms. One "a" is followed by two, three or more "b"s giving a sucession of "a-b-b-...". The inner timing in pulse rate acceleration distinguishes each motive. We suggest that the Algarve population has its own dialect, which is different from those of Camargue and Liguria, whose mating calls are longer (about 300 and 400 ms) with a syntax of "a-b" pairs. Pulse rates and durations change with temperature.

The Gallo-Italic dialects widespread within central–eastern Sicily represent the result of the medieval immigration of settlers from southern Piedmont and Liguria, after the Norman conquest of the island (1061–1091). As far as the language spoken by these communities is concerned, an oddity arises: most of their lexical and syntactic features developed further through contact with neighboring varieties (such as, most notably, Sicilian), whereas, at a phonetic/phonological level, they have remained very conservative, largely maintaining their original northern characteristics. In the present paper, the possible causes underlying such a split are discussed: if the transfer of syntactic structures can be triggered by the presence of bilingual speakers who become progressively dominant (that is, more proficient) in Sicilian as L2, the preservation of the main phonetic/phonological features can represent a tool employed to the ends of emphasizing the identity of these new settlers from both an ethnic and linguistic perspective.

Aujourd'hui, la situation des langues régionales soulève de nombreuses questions, notamment en ce qui concerne les zones linguistiques charnières et de transition, comme le département des Alpes Maritimes. Zone de contact de langue entre le français, l’italien, et plus précisément le ligure – présent jusqu’à Menton, où il est en transition avec le provençal – la vallée de la Roya est un territoire plurilinguistique et pluriculturel complexe. Du côté français, notre étude porte sur les parlers des villages de Tende, la Brigue et Breil-sur-Roya (du nord au sud de la haute vallée de la Roya française), sur lesquels ont travaillé de manière plus importante les linguistes Werner Forner et Jean-Philippe Dalbera. Du côté italien, j’ai orienté mes recherches sur les villes de la basse vallée de la Roya, Sanremo et Vintimille, au Sud de la Ligurie occidentale, et sur les villages de Triora et Pigna, plus au nord.Au-delà des conflits d’identités et de l’urgence de sauvegarder les langues par leur transmission dans les associations, l’un des problèmes les plus épineux reste la classification linguistique des parlers locaux. En effet, si le territoire de la vallée est officiellement considéré zone occitane, les linguistes y opposent fermement une appartenance ligure-alpine. Dans une orientation sociolinguistique, notre propos sera de dépasser les considérations purement linguistiques pour faire émerger les représentations des locuteurs quant à leur culture et à leur parler.En ce qui concerne nos recherches sur le terrain, elles relèvent de « l’étude des pratiques langagières authentiques en contexte social relève de la sociolinguistique, au sens large » Gadet (2003 : 5) dans un cadre épistémologique socioconstructiviste de la pensée complexe et théorique de l’ethno-sociolinguistique (Calvet, 1993, Blanchet, 2000). Nos recherches se situent dans le domaine des langues en contact et s’orientent vers une sociolinguistique variationniste (Labov, 1976) et interactionnelle (Hymes, 1982 ; Gumperz,1989 a et b), avec l’étude de l’hétérogénéité des systèmes linguistiques et de l’hétérogénéité linguistique des groupes sociaux de notre enquête. Nous interrogeons également dans ce cadre la question des phénomènes de domination (Marcellesi et Gardin 1974, Blanchet 2018, Colonna 2020)
Today, the situation of regional languages raises many questions, particularly with regard to the hinge and transition linguistic zones, such as the Alpes Maritimes department. A language contact zone between French, Italian, and more precisely Ligurian - present as far as Menton, where it is in transition with Provençal - the Roya valley is a complex plurilingual and pluricultural territory.On the French side, our study focuses on the languages of the villages of Tende, La Brigue and Breil-sur-Roya (from the north to the south of the upper valley of the French Roya), on which the linguists Werner Forner and Jean-Philippe Dalbera have worked extensively. On the Italian side, I focused my research on the towns of the lower Roya valley, Sanremo and Ventimiglia, in the south of Western Liguria, and on the villages of Triora and Pigna, further north.Beyond the conflicts of identities and the urgency of safeguarding languages through their transmission in associations, one of the thorniest problems remains the linguistic classification of local languages. Although the territory of the valley is officially considered to be an Occitan area, linguists firmly oppose Ligurian-Alpine membership. From a sociolinguistic point of view, our aim will be to go beyond purely linguistic considerations to bring out the speakers' representations of their culture and of speaking to them.As far as our fieldwork is concerned, it is part of "the study of authentic language practices in a social context is a matter of sociolinguistics, in the broadest sense" Gadet (2003: 5) within a socioconstructivist epistemological framework of complex thinking and ethno-sociolinguistics theory (Calvet, 1993, Blanchet, 2000). Our research is situated in the field of languages in contact and is oriented towards a variationist (Labov, 1976) and interactional (Hymes, 1982; Gumperz, 1989 a and b) sociolinguistics, with the study of the heterogeneity of the linguistic systems and the linguistic heterogeneity of the social groups in our survey. We also interrogate in this framework the question of domination phenomena (Marcellesi and Gardin 1974, Blanchet 2018, Colonna 2020)

The subject of this research is the compararative study of the Ligurian immigrants' language in the Perche province, comparing the language of these immigrants with their Italian dialect and the local language. The research work reveals a particular idiolect with its lexical and morphosyntactic creations. Three parts are included : phonetic description, morphosyntactic study, lexical study. The methodology of geolinguistics has been used because it is adapted to the study of language contact. Three indexes of the Tiglietese, Norman and Percheron words complete the work

Oggi, la situazione delle lingue regionali solleva molti interrogativi, in particolare per quanto riguarda le zone linguistiche cardine e di transizione, come il dipartimento delle Alpi Marittime. Zona di contatto linguistico tra il francese, l'italiano e più precisamente il ligure - presente fino a Mentone, dove è in transizione con il provenzale - la valle della Roia è un territorio plurilingue e pluriculturale complesso : al di là dei conflitti di identità e dell'urgenza di salvaguardare le lingue attraverso la loro trasmissione in associazione, uno dei problemi più spinosi resta la classificazione linguistica delle lingue locali. Infatti, anche se il territorio della valle è ufficialmente considerato come una zona occitana, i linguisti si oppongono fermamente a un'appartenenza ligure-alpina. Da un punto di vista sociolinguistico, il nostro obiettivo sarà quello di andare oltre le considerazioni puramente linguistiche per far emergere le rappresentazioni dei parlanti della loro cultura e del parlare con loro.

Abstract Data from the Atlante Sintattico dell ‘Italia Settentrionale analyzed in Poletto and Vanelli (1995) reveal that in a number of northern Italian dialect areas, partial or WR-interrogatives are introduced by the complementizer che in addition to the WR-phrase (henceforth [WR+che]), as in the above quotation from a nineteenth century play in Piedmontese (Cichin-a, p. 20). ASIS questionnaire replies show the phenomenon occurring in both main and subordinate clauses in Piedrnontese, Swiss-Lombard dialects of the Lugano area (but not Locarno); some Alpine Lombard varieties; and some Romagnolo, Veneto, and Friulian varieties; but only in subordinate clauses in Trentino and not at all in most Ligurian, Emilian, and Lombard dialects.

Abstract:
Abstract THE LANGUAGES OF ITALY. In contrast to Greece, which in the historical period was a country of one language though many dialects, Italy was a land of many languages: non-IE, IE but not of the Italic branch, and those that were sister languages to Latin but not in any sense dialects of it. Etruscan, the language of that people which had the most profound influence upon early Roman civilization, is not obviously IE, though there may be some remote connection. The tradition of the Anatolian (specifically Lydian) origin of the Etruscans (Hdt. r.94) may be substantially true. In fact, a recent idea takes Etruscan to be a close relative of Hittite, but there are difficulties with this as with all other Etruscan theories. Epigraphic evidence for the ancient languages of Italy (Old Latin included) is very scanty; and, worse, in the 19th century forgeries of archaic Italic materials were produced in abundance. The consequences of this are still being sorted out. Ligurian, once spoken along the Gulf of Genoa, is believed by some to be an IE language intermediate between Italic and Celtic. However, the linguistic material is very scanty-local and tribal names. The ‘Lepontic’ inscriptions, from the region of the North Italian lakes, are better regarded as Celtic in fact-an archaic form of Gaulish (appropriately so for 550-150 BC) and more or less dating from the Celtic invasion, vid.inf.

Abstract:
The tower of St. John the Baptist, known as the Scola Tower, is a small fortification with a pentagonal plan, surrounded by the sea, built by the Republic of Genoa in 1606, above a rock (Scola in the local dialect), to defend the entrance of the Gulf of La Spezia, near the island of Palmaria in Porto Venere. In 1800 it was partially destroyed by gunfire from the British fleet, which penetrated the gulf, and after that it was abandoned. When its demolition was averted in 1915 (established by the Marina Militare), given its historical interest, it was decided to convert the tower to the function of a signal lighthouse. Between 1976 and 1980 the structure received radical restoration and consolidation of the perimeter walls. Of this turret on the water, some historical plans and photographs exist, but today thanks to modern surveying techniques, such as aerial photogrammetry with drones, it has been possible to accurately scan the structure despite the inaccessibility of its location. With this survey, it was possible to process a perfect digital twin of the building, which even made it possible to make scale replicas, thanks to 3D printing. Replicas that can be a very useful source of study or beautiful souvenirs. Also, thanks to the latest frontiers of technology, such as artificial intelligence, it has been possible to increase the quality of historical photographs. This as fascinating as it is melancholy isolated turret in the middle of the sea is becoming more and more famous and well known thanks to social networks and photos taken with drones, and it is poised to become a new destination and new symbol of tourism in Liguria.
