Abstract:
Three types of mediation (voluntary, court recommended, and now mandatory mediation) are in force in the Italian legal system. Mandatory mediation is provided for some classes of disputes and the mediator is appointed by a mediation centre which must satisfy the Ministry of Justice as to the existence of the statutory requirements for its existence. Mediators must possess a university degree and must have successfully followed a 50-hour training course. The new legislation has been the subject of agreement by some and of criticism by others. The mandatory nature of it is seen as the main highlight of this legislation, while the requirements for mediation centers and the training of mediators may be and should be improved.

Abstract:
Abstract This research examines the effect of mediators’ characteristics on mediation outcomes. In the current study of international mediation, one group of scholars argues that biased mediators with a considerable interest at stake in the dispute are usually effective. Others stress that mediator neutrality is a precondition for mediation to be successful. To test these claims, this study evaluates the Philippines’ qualifications as a mediator for the Borneo confrontation between Indonesia and Malaya in the 1960s. Although the Philippines’ strong ties to both disputants qualified it as an impartial mediator, its ongoing dispute with Malaya over Sabah transformed the Philippines into a biased/interested mediator in the Borneo confrontation. This research illustrates how effective the Philippines was in mediating the Borneo confrontation. It also sheds light on the possible futility of South Korea’s involvement as a third party in the People’s Republic of China-Japan territorial dispute.

Abstract:
The article highlights the social significance of administrative mediation, which consists in the organization and development of civil society institutions (for example, public associations of mediators), including their public control over public administration as a system of bodies and organizations designed to implement goals and objectives given by the political (representative) power of the state. With the help of administrative mediation, society can legally «signal» to the representative authorities about certain problems in public relations (for example, on the basis of depersonalized statistical information and reports provided by associations of mediators), eliminate and find compromise in overcoming shortcomings of public administration together with the government and, finally, to move the process of modernization of the executive branch towards finding consensus at all levels of interaction between the state and society. The article proposes the author’s definition of «administrative mediation» as an extra- judicial legal form of voluntary settlement of an administrative dispute involving two or more parties, one of which is a subject of power, and a professional mediator arising from a violation of administrative law. The article presents a number of special features and characteristics of administrative mediation, which, unlike other types of mediation, require the application of specific institutions. For instance: inequality of the parties, the dispute is based on the public interest; the principles of confidentiality and voluntariness are relative; complex structure of the mediator’s financial reward; requires the involvement of independent experts; special requirements for the mediator. The article proposes the criteria according to which an administrative dispute can or cannot be resolved through the procedure of administrative mediation. The article proposes a number of legislative initiatives regarding the institutionalization and development of the institution of administrative mediation in Ukraine. Among them, it is proposed to introduce a special section in the Code of Administrative Procedure of Ukraine «Mediation» (as was done in Poland), where, among other things, clearly define the restrictive framework (criteria) for administrative disputes, according to which the procedure of administrative mediation can be applied.

Abstract:
Little is known about how transitions in the government of mediators affect conflict dynamics and resolution. To address this shortcoming, we study executive turnovers of mediators during ongoing interventions in civil war. Mediation effectiveness is largely driven by (trustworthy) information provision and sharing. Changes in mediators’ leaderships have the potential to undermine this, lowering mediation performance. Using data on civil conflicts in 1946–2017, we find robust support for this argument. This research sheds light on a previously neglected factor in conflict resolution that is of particular interest to practitioners and policymakers.

Abstract:
Physical activity is a key determinant of healthy ageing; yet, little is known about the varying degrees of benefits by intensity nor the mediating mechanisms that operate through psychosocial health. Leveraging structural mediation analysis using the 2018 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) national survey data, we screened 4371 community-dwelling older adults, and investigated the mediation mechanism of psychosocial health on the link between light-moderate physical activity and cognitive performance. Physical activity intensity, psychosocial health, and cognitive performance were measured by the international physical activity questionnaire (IPAQ), the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CESD), and the mini-mental state examination (MMSE) instruments, respectively. Results show that, while light physical activity (LPA) and moderate physical activity (MPA) both significantly contribute to better cognitive performance, psychosocial health is a significant mediator only for LPA but not for MPA. For direct pathways, both LPA (std. β = 0.062, p < 0.001, 95% confidence interval = 0.032–0.091) and MPA (std. β = 0.049, p = 0.001, 95% CI = 0.019–0.078) have significant influence on cognitive performance. For mediation pathways, results show that there exists only one indirect channel through which psychosocial health mediates the influence of LPA (std. β = 0.024, p < 0.001, 95% CI = 0.016–0.033), which accounts for 27.9% of the total effect linking LPA and cognitive performance. Findings uncover an important indirect psychosocial mediation channel through which LPA affects cognitive performance among older adults.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between school climate and teacher stress. Specifically, the authors construct two parsimonious models to test two main hypotheses. First, whether preschool collegial leadership predicts teachers’ job stress through the mediating role of teacher self-efficacy; second, whether teacher professionalism influences teachers’ perceptions of occupational stress through the mediating role of teacher self-efficacy. Design/methodology/approach The authors conceptualized the mediating role of teacher efficacy as an important mechanism that can help to explain the effect of school climate on teacher stress. School climate consisted of two dimensions: principal collegial leadership and professionalism. Therefore, the authors constructed and examined two mediation models by using Bootstrapping mediation modeling: first, preschool teacher self-efficacy as a mediator between preschool collegial leadership and teacher stress; second, preschool teacher self-efficacy as a mediator between preschool teacher professionalism and teacher stress. Findings Results from two mediation analyses showed that principal collegial leadership exerts a significant negative effect on preschool teachers’ stress through the mediating role of teacher self-efficacy. Moreover, professionalism was also a significant predictor of preschool teachers’ stress through the mediating role of teacher self-efficacy. Research limitations/implications This study contributes to the literature in terms of understanding the mechanism of how school climate helps to reduce teacher stress. First, the authors found that teachers’ individual well-being can be efficiently enhanced through a more collegial leadership. Second, the preschool leadership teams can create a supportive climate to reduce teachers’ stress by improving teachers’ professionalism. Originality/value This study offers a new perspective about understanding the internal and external mechanism of teacher stress. The authors discussed the results in light of the recent push by the Chinese Government to teacher quality improvement in early childhood education. The authors argued for prioritizing support for building a supportive school climate for teachers.

Abstract:
AbstractThis article examines the role of negative emotions in the process of international mediation. In particular, it investigates how perceptions of disputant negative emotions influence the tactics that mediators employ. Using the classification of mediator tactics into communicator, formulator or manipulator, the article argues that communicator- or formulator-oriented tactics are adopted more frequently when a mediator perceives negative emotions, such as anger or fear. The results of a web survey of North American mediators that classified mediation tactics are presented. The authors also interviewed international mediators and diplomats who have formally or informally, officially or unofficially, mediated intra-state and inter-state conflicts. Mediators are found to be more inclined to assume communicator- or formulator-oriented tactics when confronted with negative emotions. Our empirical analysis of negative emotions sheds light on the choice of mediation tactics in the field of international mediation, and offers valuable insights to scholars and practitioners of negotiation, diplomacy, international relations and political science.

Abstract:
The current study aimed at examining a moderated mediation model based on the theoretical framework of organizational socialization. In particular, the mediating effect of organizational career growth (OCG) in the relationship between organizational socialization learning and work outcomes (job satisfaction and performance) was assessed through a multigroup approach on an overall sample of 474 Italian employees. Specifically, structural equation modeling through the bootstrap method was used to test the mediation hypotheses on three dichotomous moderating variables: gender (men/women), parenthood (parents/not parents), and tenure (newcomers/expert employees). Results showed a moderated mediation effect (total mediation) of OCG in the relationship between organizational socialization learning and performance and a mediation effect of OCG in the relationship between organizational socialization learning and job satisfaction. Results are discussed on the light of the original contribution provided, as well as limitations, suggestions for further research and practical implications.

Abstract:
The research aims to reveal the effect of teachers’ agile leadership perceptions on their affective occupational commitment and how employee voice plays a mediating role in this effect. The study group of the research consists of 354 teachers working in Istanbul in 2021. The research is carried out according to the relational survey model. Correlation analysis is carried out and tested using the suggested mediation model based on the relationship between the variables to determine the relationship between variables. According to the research findings, the agile leadership characteristics of school principals positively affect their affective occupational commitment. Additionally, mediation analysis showed that employee voice is a partial mediator between agile leadership characteristics and affective occupational commitment. This research contributes to the theory by revealing the important effects of the agile leader in the school. In the light of the findings, the implications of the agile leader, employee voice, and occupational commitment of teachers were discussed, and suggestions were made for future research.

Abstract:
The aim was to analyze the mediation role of self-esteem in the interaction between social support from the best friend, friends, and parents, and physical activity (PA). Participants were N=444 adolescents of both genders (male= 205), aged between 12-18 years (M= 16.02; SD= 1.57). Structural equation modeling, serial mediation and multigroup analysis were used to test the proposed hypothesis. Self-reported instruments were used to collect both PA social support and self-esteem. Self-esteem mediates partially the interaction between different social supports and vigorous PA, independently of adolescent sex. Interestingly, self-esteem was fully mediating the interaction between parents’ social support and vigorous PA in female adolescents. In contrast, self-esteem revealed no mediation in the interaction between social support and light and moderate PA. In conclusion, self-esteem mediates the relationship between social support and vigorous PA, the strength of mediation is higher in girls than in boys, in both genders the mediation is higher when the social support came from parents.

Abstract:
Similarities exist between the effects of phytochrome and cytokinins on plant growth and development (e.g., chloroplast development, amaranthin synthesis. seed germination, photomorphogenesis). It is unclear, however, if and how these two systems interact. As a beginning step to determine cytokinin-phytochrome interactions, we developed a strategy utilizing ipt -transgenic tobacco in phytochrome/light treatment investigations. The sour-cc of the ipt gene was Agrobacterium tumefaciens Ti plasmid 15955. This gene encodes for isopentenyl transferase which is an enzyme active in cytokinin biosynthesis. Ipt -transgenic tobacco cultures (grown on MS medium supplemented with kanamycin but no plant growth regulators) were treated with end-of-day red or far-red light for 15 minutes. After 30 days of treatment, the plant tissue was harvested and either homogenized for SDS-PAGE or fixed for transmission electron microscopic analysis. Results from immuno-gold labelling using polyclonal antibodies specific to iptase will he used to Indicate the influence of phytochrome on cytokinin activity. Also, structural changes at the ultra-cellular level will be determined.

The article focuses on gradual innovation of mediation into the practice of social conflict resolution in the light of legal and psychological means of mediation. While mediation is perceived as a conflictological concept and is more widely used in dispute settlement and resolution, a new interdisciplinary field of theoretical knowledge with its own conceptual framework as well as a new professional and practical field are beginning to form both in Russia and in other countries. As theoretical and practical aspects of innovation in mediation require consolidation not only for its national development but also for the guaranteed international cooperation, the article touches upon some of the particular theoretical issues of the topic in question: terminological consistency, consolidation of the system of mediation principles, the phenomenon of juridisation of mediation and its limits.

Drawing from the author’s insider perspective, it sheds light on the unique aspects of the framework compared to classical mediation processes. It argues that, due to its connectivity with high-level diplomacy as well as its ability to adapt to a constantly evolving conflict, the Minsk Process represents a valuable, flexible, at times untypical, mediation framework.

Propped by Norway's diplomatic breakthrough in getting Israel and the PLO to forego their protracted state of war and negotiate their way toward a peaceful coexistence, this study focuses on small state mediation. It is an intellectual endeavor to shed light on a small state intervening as a third party mediator in some conflict-ridden international disputes. Because of the normative and legalistic approach that has dominated the study of international relations for quite some time, it is not surprising that the process of mediation can be difficult to grasp or, at least, subject to misunderstanding. Highlighting the small state mediation paradigm, the essay sets out Us background and offers an interpretative analysis of Us value. It addresses a number of questions pertaining to this avenue for international conflict management. For instance, where does international mediation fit within the larger spectrum of international peace mechanisms ? What are the distinguishing features of a small state's style of intervention, and how does a small state mediation differ from other mediatory schemes such as those intiated by other actors ? Most importantly, where does a small state's wherewithal to bring about a peaceful settlement of an international dispute stem from ? These and other questions are carefully probed in an attempt to grasp the dynamic of small state mediation.

Abstract:
In the light of social exchange theory, our study aimed to explore the impact of psychological contract violation on survivors’ turnover intention, specifically in a downsizing context. We put forth a moderated mediation model to uncover the mediating role of organizational commitment, as well as the boundary conditions of organizational support and emotional susceptibility as a moderating mechanism. To test our hypotheses, we surveyed 202 out of 271 layoff survivors belonging to the stores of an established manufacturing and retail footwear business in the southwest region of China. The study found a positive relationship between psychological contract violation and the survivors’ turnover intention. In addition, organizational commitment has been identified as a powerful mediator between psychological contract violation and turnover intention. This study, however, only explores how organizational support significantly moderates the mediating effect of organizational commitment in regard to psychological contract violation and turnover intention. This study helps organizational practitioners to ensure sound management practices for employees, in order to get rid of adverse consequences evinced through individuals’ negative emotions.

Mediation, at its most basic, is the process of seeking the settlement of a dispute through dialogue and the eventual agreement of the parties; merely facilitated by a neutral third party, the meditator. Mediation rules and procedures can and should be much lighter and less prescriptive than rules of arbitration; and mediation should be substantially quicker and less expensive than arbitration. This article will consider whether and if so to what extent the rules of mediation of BCDR-AAA (‘BCDR-AAA’ or ‘the Chamber’) provide a flexible framework and a light touch for the efficient, timely and cost-effective resolution of commercial disputes; drawing comparisons with the 2011 BCDR-AAA mediation rules, which they replace, and with the mediation rules of other leading institutions. ‘You can’t shake hands with a clenched fist.’ – Indira Gandhi

Abstract:
Background/Aims: Maltreatment in childhood and adolescence is a risk factor for substance use disorders (SUDs) in adulthood. This association has rarely been investigated in the light of emotion dysregulation. To fill this gap, this study examines emotion dysregulation and SUDs among adults with a history of early maltreatment. Methods: Comparison of emotion dysregulation in adults with a history of early abuse and neglect who developed either an SUD (n = 105) or no mental disorder (n = 54). Further, a mediation model for the association between the severity of early maltreatment and SUDs was tested. Participants completed research diagnostic interviews for psychopathology, the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale, and the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire. Results: By using hierarchical regression techniques and mediational analyses controlling for age and gender, it was possible to provide evidence for the mediating role of emotion dysregulation between early emotional and physical maltreatment and later SUDs. Conclusions: Emotion dysregulation is a potential mechanism underlying the relationship between early emotional and physical maltreatment and the development of SUDs. In light of these findings, focusing on the early training of adaptive emotion regulation strategies after childhood maltreatment might be of considerable relevance to prevent the development of SUDs.

Abstract:
This article attempts to uncover a foundational drive in Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics and its importance in steeping the tension of the philosophical link of culture and African Philosophy. In his work Gadamer presents culture as the foundation of philosophy. Okere rising from the latter posits that hermeneutics is the mediator between culture and African philosophy. The polemical argument of the rationality of African philosophy though interwoven with skeptical epistemological assumptions which increasingly emphasizes in the ethno decade-long debate is aggregated in mediating stance of hermeneutics as adduced by Okere and other notable African scholars. This article shows that in his most popularity oriented epistemological work, Gadamer did not mute the obstacles that epistemic uncertainty poses to the quest for mere ethno dimension in the light of critical ratiocination in order to avoid acceptance of views without examination .This article pursues this mediating strategy not just for rhetorical but also for a substantive reason on the rational foundation of African Philosophy against the nauseating position that African philosophy is mere cultural beliefs. Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between a secure attachment style and affective commitment (AC) through the mediating roles of affective and cognitive trust in a direct supervisor. Design/methodology/approach – The study was conducted using the questionnaire answers of 357 private sector employees in various occupations. The statistical analysis was based on structural equation modeling. A multiple mediation model enabled us to investigate the specific indirect effects of each mediator. Findings – Results based on a model comparison showed that the employees’ affective trust in their supervisor fully mediated the relationship between a secure attachment style and AC. However, cognitive trust had no significant mediating effect on relationships between a secure attachment style and AC. Practical implications – Trust in supervisors should be monitored and supported during developmental interventions. Understanding the power of affective and cognitive trust in predicting attitudes can help shape more effective interventions to influence positive work attitudes, including AC. Originality/value – The study sheds new light on the literature by linking individual attachment to organizational attachment as the mediating role of two forms of trust in a supervisor.

The natural supersymmetry (SUSY) requires light (≤1 TeV) stop quarks, light sbottom quark, and gluinos. The first generation of squarks can be effectively larger than several TeV which does not introduce any hierarchy problem in order to escape the constraints from LHC. In this paper we consider a Yukawa deflected mediation to realize the effective natural supersymmetry where the interactions between squarks and messengers are made natural under certain Froggatt-Nielsen U(1)X charges. The first generation squarks obtain large and positive contribution from the Yukawa deflected mediation. The corresponding phenomenology and sparticle spectra are discussed in detail.

Abstract:
Studies show that Human Resource Management (HRM) practices, the role of leadership, organizational citizenship behavior, and organizational virtues influence the greater involvement of professionals at work and, consequently, the organizational performance. However, there is a lack of investigations encompassing these four variables in the same research model. Thus, the main objective of this study was to identify the relationship between leadership, organizational virtues, HRM practices, and organizational citizenship behaviors in a sample of employees of Brazilian companies. A printed questionnaire was administered to a valid sample of 659 subjects, who participated voluntarily, from public and private organizations in a Brazilian State. A total of seven hypotheses were tested using confirmatory factor analysis to assess the fit of the measurement models of the four studied variables, in addition to path analysis, using structural equation modeling to specify and estimate the mediation models. All hypotheses were confirmed, attesting to the positive predictive associations between the variables. We also confirm the partial mediation of HRM practices in the relationship between leadership and citizenship and the total mediation in the relationship between virtues and citizenship. This research advances the efforts to test more complex and unexplored structural models in which HRM practices are mediating variables, fulfilling a gap in the literature, as well as providing investigations of antecedents and consequents of the variables adopted in the research. As practical implications, the findings constitute a diagnosis for managers to understand how these relationships happen, supporting decision-making towards an increasingly effective, strategic, and humanized HRM.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating role of organizational identification (OI) on the relationship between organizational justice (OJ) and turnover intention (TI), as well as the moderating role of psychological contract fulfillment (PCF) in those relationships. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from 339 employees of a financial institution in Turkey. Regression analyses were conducted to investigate a moderated mediation model. Findings This study found that OI was partially mediated the relationship between OJ and TI. The results also indicated that the indirect effect of OJ on TI through OI was moderated by PCF. Research limitations/implications The generalizability of the findings is limited. As this study is cross-sectional, causal inferences cannot be inferred regarding the hypothesized relationships. Practical implications To reduce TI, organizations should ensure the fair allocation of resources and rewards among employees. Moreover, organizations should pay attention to the expectations of employees and the promises made to them in an attempt to fulfill psychological contract obligations. Originality/value This study explores the mediating role of OI in the relationship between OJ and TI. In addition, this research sheds light on the moderating role of PCF in this mediation model.

Abstract:
The paper presents methodological foundations of conducting mediation in the process of teaching foreign languages to students that do not specialize in translation. Outcomes of the research are the following: principles of the concept of conducting mediation described in the Companion Volume to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages CEFR are analyzed and principles applicable for teaching mediation to students are outlined; typical communicative situations in which mediation is carried out are analyzed; the practical orientation of the mediation process in foreign language teaching is explained; algorithms for creating mediation tasks are developed; possibilities of optimization of educational process through the integration of mediation tasks are considered; examples of tasks for execution of mediation are suggested. It is concluded that in light of the significance of functions that mediation serves in the nowadays society, it is necessary to take into account the problem of incorporating teaching of meditation into the process of foreign languages teaching. Advanced mediation concept, which is presented in the Companion Volume to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages CEFR, provides theoretical principles for the development of methodologies for teaching mediation. Social functions of language use in mediation lay the foundations of these methodologies. Peculiarities of mediation tasks are the following: tasks are based on the educational goal that is formulated on the basis of illustrative scales with competencies for mediation that are provided in the Companion Volume to CEFR, tasks have natural for students communicative situation, which indicates for whom and with what purpose mediation is carried out. Provided that these requirements are met, mediation tasks fully and completely correspond to the activity-oriented approach in foreign language teaching and help to optimize educational process.

Abstract:
The Middle East as a geopolitical region is not generally renowned for the neutrality and mediation present in its politics. Kuwait defies this trend, acting as a mediator in some conflicts and remaining neutral in others. When it seems as though Kuwait is taking a tough, sided stance (for example, its steadfast refusal to recognise the State of Israel), further analysis proves that the supposedly unneutral position is in fact a way of remaining neutral in another conflict. Through a “micro-to-macro” approach analysing Kuwaiti foreign policy first within the GCC, then within the Middle East, then on a global level, this essay has been able to examine and explain the Emirate’s foreign policy, to shed light on a country often unfairly overlooked due to its size and perceived lack of importance. Its foreign policy of neutrality, multilateralism, and mediation, however, is exactly what makes Kuwait so significant on the world stage.

Abstract:
Gravity mediated supersymmetry breaking becomes comparable to gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking contributions when messenger masses are close to the GUT scale. By suitably arranging the gravity contributions, one can modify the soft supersymmetry breaking sector to generate a large stop mixing parameter and a light Higgs mass of 125 GeV. In this kind of hybrid models, however, the nice features of gauge mediation like flavor conservation, etc. are lost. To preserve the nice features, gravitational contributions should become important for lighter messenger masses and should be important only for certain fields. This is possible when the hidden sector contains multiple (at least two) spurions with hierarchical vacuum expectation values. In this case, the gravitational contributions can be organized to be “just right.” We present a complete model with two spurion hidden sector where the gravitational contribution is from a warped flavor model in a Randall–Sundrum setting. Along the way, we present simple expressions to handle renormalization group equations when supersymmetry is broken by two different sectors at two different scales.

Abstract:
Enabling haptic communication as well as voice and data over the future 5G cellular system has become a demand. Tactile Internet is one of the main use cases of the 5G system that will allow the transfer of haptic communications in real time. Latency, availability, reliability, and security are the main design challenges of the tactile Internet system and haptic based bilateral teleoperation systems. An end-to-end latency of 1 ms remains the main challenge toward tactile Internet system realization, not only for the processing and coding delays but mainly for the limitations of light. In this work, we analyze the key solutions to overcome the light limitations and enable the tactile Internet over any distances with the required latency. Building a virtual model or model mediated for the remote environment at the edge cloud unit near to the end user is the main solution. By means of AI, the virtual model can predict the behavior of the remote environment and thus, the end user can interact with the virtual environment with a high system experience. This literature review covers the existing work of the model mediated bilateral teleoperated systems and discusses its availability for the tactile Internet system. Furthermore, the security issues of tactile Internet system and the effect of model mediated system on the required security level of tactile Internet applications are discussed. Finally, a structure for the tactile Internet system, with the deployment of model mediation, is suggested.

Abstract:
The feeling is widespread in the West that the post wwii normative international order has been under severe challenge since Russia’s seizure of Crimea, now exacerbated by statements from the American president casting doubt on the institutions that underpin that order. Is there a future role for osce mediation as this order erodes? Study of the Ukraine crisis in light of other protracted conflicts on the territory of the former Soviet Union shows that the same challenges have existed for a generation. Because the conflicts were small, however, the international community chose to accept a fiction of convenience to isolate them from an otherwise functioning international order: the narrative that the separatists sought independence, not (as in reality) a re-drawing of post-Soviet borders. This isolation is under pressure both from the new experience in Ukraine and from the extension of ever-greater Russian control over the separatists, amounting to crypto-annexation, despite a backlash from Moscow’s clients, including in Armenia. There is little likelihood of a resolution to the Ukraine crisis, including Russia’s annexation of Crimea, and prospects for mediation to resolve the conflicts remain dim. However, continued talks may resolve some humanitarian issues and provide a release valve to prevent pressures boiling over into renewed open warfare. In 2015 the present author published an article outlining some effects of the Ukraine crisis on protracted conflicts in the osce area and on osce mediation in those conflicts. 1 He has been asked to revisit his assessment of that time in light of subsequent events in world politics (in particular the advent of a new administration in the United States) and in the region. The new developments give little cause for optimism that settlement in any of the conflicts is closer. Rather, the question for the osce is whether the international community, in view of the challenges posed by the Ukraine crisis, should continue to engage in the fictions that have allowed it to manage the conflicts since their beginnings in the collapsing Soviet Union.

Abstract:
Objective This work aims to further test the theory that trust mediates the interdependency between automation reliability and the rate of human reliance on automation. Background Human trust in automation has been the focus of many research studies. Theoretically, trust has been proposed to impact human reliance on automation by mediating the relationship between automation reliability and the rate of human reliance. Experimentally, however, the results are contradicting as some confirm the mediating role of trust, whereas others deny it. Hence, it is important to experimentally reinvestigate this role of trust and understand how the results should be interpreted in the light of existing theory. Method Thirty-two subjects supervised a swarm of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in foraging missions in which the swarm provided recommendations on whether or not to collect potential targets, based on the information sensed by the UAVs. By manipulating the reliability of the recommendations, we observed changes in participants’ trust and their behavioral responses. Results A within-subject mediation analysis revealed a significant mediation role of trust in the relationship between swarm reliability and reliance rate. High swarm reliability increased the rate of correct acceptances, but decreased the rate of correct rejections. No significant effect of reliability was found on response time. Conclusion Trust is not a mere by-product of the interaction; it possesses a predictive power to estimate the level of reliance on automation. Application The mediation role of trust confirms the significance of trust calibration in determining the appropriate level of reliance on swarm automation.

In the study, perceived values and satisfaction directly impacted destination loyalty. However, the cognitive image does not affect destination loyalty. Both satisfaction and perceived value mediate between cognitive image and destination loyalty. Because postulated links have received little attention. The study helps advance conceptual underpinnings particularly in light of Cox'sBazar. There is merit to this study in that it demonstrates the parallel mediating effect of satisfaction and perceived value between cognitive image and destination loyalty, which has received little attention in previous tourism literature.

The article is devoted to the study of mediation strategies in the light of recent publications of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The aim of the article is to highlight the multifunctionality of mediation strategies in teaching written speech to students of technical specialties and to consider strategies for creating secondary texts of patent documentation as a product of text mediation. The following research methods were used – critical analysis of literature sources, synthesis (mediation strategies and strategies for creating a secondary text), hypothesis (multifunctionality of mediation strategies in teaching English for professional purposes), modelling (algorithm for mediation of patent documents). Given the importance for future engineers of the skills of producing professionally oriented written speech, this study aims to identify the features of the mediation strategies multifunctionality in teaching written speech to students of technical specialties. The authors added strategies to the creation of secondary texts in the form of annotations and abstracts to the mediation of the text, which is essential in the foreign language training of future engineers. Considering the secondary text as a product of the mediation process of the primary text, the authors came to the conclusion that the latter has a three-component algorithm – reception; decoding information by summarizing it, which in terms of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages includes text processing orally and in writing, if necessary, e.g., in the submission of its own article or patent application, a written text translation, an information analysis of the original text; the text mediation product (secondary text). The research material was the texts of patent information and the tasks for the development of text mediation strategies. The authors consider examples of the mediation strategies use in the process of creating summaries to the patent text by future engineers. This article evaluates mediation practice against the core principles that Thomas Bingham identifies as constituting the rule of law. It identifies three forms of compulsion and discusses these in the light of Thomas Bingham’s eight principles. The article examines how voluntary mediation may increase access to justice, a significant component of the rule of law, but an element of compulsion, in its strict sense, impedes the constitutional right of access to the courts and stifles the development of precedent. To comply with the rule of law, in its more substantive version, any instruction that parties attempt to settle via mediation needs to be subject to judicial scrutiny, must ensure that the cost of mediation is not disproportionate, that there is a genuine willingness of the parties to engage in the process with good faith, and that it involves no greater structural inequalities than in litigation.

Abstract:
Peer Data Management Systems (PDMSs) allow the efficient sharing of data between peers with overlapping sources of information. These sources share data through mappings between peers. In current systems, queries are asked over each peer's local schema and then translated using the mappings between peers. While this allows the data to be accessed uniformly, users lack access to information that is not in their own schemas. In this paper, we propose a light-weight, automatic method to create a mediated schema in a PDMS. Our work benefits PDMSs by allowing access to more data and without unduly stressing the peer's resources or requiring additional resources such as ontologies. We present our system — MePSys, which creates a mediated schema in PDMSs automatically using the existing mappings provided to translate queries. We further discuss how to update the mediated schema in a stable state, i.e. after the system setup period.

Anthocyanin production in roots and shoots of Zea mays L. seedlings was higher in blue than in red light and was very low in far red light. Under dichromatic irradiation, a phytochrome mediation of a blue-dependent photoreaction was evident. Pretreatments with both white and blue light allowed increased anthocyanin production under subsequent inductive conditions, as did occurs in treatments with continuous blue, red, far red, or white light. It is suggested that the effect of light pretreatments on phytochrome-controlled anthocyanin formation may differ from that controlled by the combination of cryptochrome and phytochrome.
