Abstract:
The Canadian Federation of Library Association’s (CFLA-FCAB) Guidelines for the Education of Library Technicians were last updated in 2011 and in need of a reboot. These guidelines have helped to establish a national standard for the education of library technicians in Canada and provided a framework for the development of skills, knowledge, and abilities of library technicians to provide job-ready, and highly skilled graduates. As much has changed in the library and information landscape in recent years, we instigated a substantial update to the Guidelines in 2021. The update was completed and approved by the CFLA-FCAB in July 2022 and is a guide for library educators, library administrators, supervisors, and practitioners. This paper details the research process undertaken to update the Guidelines that reflect the core competencies of library technicians in Canada.

Abstract:
Objective: A literature review was conducted to examine how pharmacy students and technicians have been utilized in medication reconciliation processes in an effort to evaluate expanded roles for pharmacy students and technicians. Data were summarized on accuracy of obtaining medication histories, time requirements, discrepancy identification, and cost savings. Limitations and areas for future research also were identified. Data Sources: A search of PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and PsycINFO and a manual searching of bibliographies were performed. Study Selection: Articles were included in this literature review if they focused on medication reconciliation with pharmacy student or technician outcomes independent of pharmacist involvement, they are available in English from any country, and the outcomes were empirical. Data Synthesis: Of 2112 identified studies, 32 met the inclusion criteria. The literature review revealed pharmacy technicians or students were involved in several medication reconciliation activities. Trained pharmacy students and technicians were able to obtain thorough medication histories as well as identify medication history discrepancies and take appropriate action to correct these discrepancies. Through the use of pharmacy students and technicians in the medication reconciliation process, hospitals experienced cost savings and other health-care professionals had more time for other patient care activities as well as an increased trust in the accuracy of medication histories. Conclusion: These findings suggest that pharmacy students and technicians are accurate, time efficient, decrease costs, and provide support to other health-care professionals when they are included in the medication reconciliation process.

Abstract:
Bimbingan Teknis Tenaga Perpustakaan (Bimtek), literally translated as Technical Training for Library Technician, is an activity carried out by the National Library of Indonesia through the Librarian Development Center (P3) unit as an effort to fulfill their responsibilities as a supervisory board. With a target of thousands of participants from all provinces in Indonesia, The Bimtek spent a lot of energy and cost, therefore it would be fruitless when the implementation was far from the target. To avoid this, organizers need to finalize the planning as best as possible, one of which is by assessing the need for Bimtek materials that are in accordance with the interests and needs of the participants. Through this research, the authors conducted a need assessment for the first time at the P3 unit Bimtek involving librarians and library technicians on a national scale.. The research was conducted using a descriptive quantitative approach and survey method of 2.080 Library Technician respondents in Indonesia, the questionnaire was built by adopting the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards in the field of Libraries. The results show that the most chosen Key Functions by the respondents is Library Information and Communication Technology.

Abstract:
South Kalimantan is one of the provinces in Indonesia with a natural environment that has promising mining potential. Working in a mining environment will make workers face to face with specific work situations and environments that have various potential hazards. A good company usually has a good occupational health and safety (K3) management system. The existence of supervision, work SOPs and habits related to K3 such as safety talk and other supporting matters are generally able to reduce the risk of work accidents and can anticipate potential hazards. However, unforeseen situations and emergencies can occur at any time. Mine workers may find themselves in situations where they cannot connect with anyone or have to make certain decisions and actions when an emergency occurs. This study assesses how important OHS knowledge is for prospective mining technicians in South Kalimantan. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research using data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews and library studies. Abstract:
Abstract Objective - To collect and share information about the prevalence of precarious work in libraries and the factors associated with it. Methods - The authors collected and coded job postings from a nationwide job board in Canada for two years. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to explore the extent of precarity and its relationship with job characteristics such as job type, institution type, education level, and minimum required experience. Results - The authors collected 1,968 postings, of which 842 (42.8%) were coded as precarious in some way. The most common types of precarious work were contracts (29.1% of all postings) and part-time work (22.7% of all postings). Contracts were most prevalent in and significantly associated with academic libraries and librarian positions, and they were most often one year in length. Both on-call and part-time work were most prevalent in school libraries and for library technicians and assistants, and they were significantly associated with all institution types either positively or negatively. Meanwhile, precarious positions overall were least prevalent in government and managerial positions. In terms of education, jobs requiring a secondary diploma or library technician diploma were most likely to be precarious, while positions requiring an MLIS were least likely. The mean minimum required experience was lower for all types of precarious positions than for stable positions, and the prevalence of precarity generally decreased as minimum required experience increased. Conclusion - The proportion of precarious positions advertised in Canada is substantial and seems to be growing over time. Based on these postings, employees with less experience, without advanced degrees, or in library technician and assistant roles are more likely to be precarious, while those with managerial positions, advanced degrees, or more experience, are less likely to be precarious. Variations in precarity based on factors such as job type, institution type, education level, and minimum required experience suggest that employees will experience precarity differently both within and across library systems.

Abstract:
As part of the University of Manitoba Libraries Outreach Services, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) Virtual Library provides library services to hospitals, health centres, community health agencies, and personal care homes throughout the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba. All services of the WRHA Virtual Library, including the collection, are entirely virtual, though staff are physically located in the University’s health library. In March 2020, shortly after the World Health Organization declared the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, libraries around the world started closing their doors and staff were required to work from home. The virtual infrastructure of our services and collections required no changes in how our patrons accessed the Virtual Library and a smooth transition was expected, but the sudden shift to working from home revealed gaps. This article discusses the unique experience of the WRHA Virtual Library transitioning to a completely virtual environment, the previous reliance on the University’s physical infrastructure, and the inequities identified between librarians and library technicians.

My journey into communities of practice (CoP) began with like-minded library technician (LT) colleagues in the health care sector in late 2020, as my hometown of Melbourne emerged from an isolating four-month lockdown due to COVID-19. Initiating the CoP created connectedness at a much-needed time. It provided direct opportunities to learn from peers, a group with which to exchange ideas to help respond to common challenges, and the opportunity to communicate with colleagues working in the same professional role in different libraries. It was both broadening and enlightening for the LTs who participated, with flow on benefits for our teams and the wider library community.

The librarians are often encouraged to maintain and keep their collections accessible through digitization as their stock in trade is their collection. This study examined capacity building initiatives in preservation techniques in selected libraries and assessed the level of training received by different library staff. Four university libraries were randomly selected and a descriptive survey method using a self-developed questionnaire. The respondents comprised librarians and non-librarians. A total of one hundred and twenty copies of questionnaires were distributed, but a hundred and twelve was retrieved and used for the analysis. The study revealed that there were no professionals to manage the preservation section of the university library and as such, most institutions make do with Para-professionals like binders, technicians and library officers etc. Analysis from the respondent’s show that Universities in Nigeria are not exposed to capacity building in preservation. Finally, regular trainings are vital for the development of all staff and for any university to stand out amongst others; there must be provision for usual capacity building of both faculty and staff.

Abstract:
Health libraries have been established as publication support services. Despite its importance, there is currently no study about the services that these centers offer. The aim of this work is to understand the role that libraries play in institutional scientific publishing policies. The sample was taken from the National Catalogue of Hospitals, the list of libraries of the Catalogue of Periodicals in Spanish Health Sciences Libraries (c17) and the National Catalogue of Health Sciences Publications (CNCS). Subsequently, virtual health libraries have also been incorporated. From this list, a questionnaire about library staff and activities related to publication process was sent. We obtained a participation rate of 61.21%. The average number of technical personnel was 1.15 in virtual libraries and 0.81 in hospital libraries. The activities carried out have been: training activities (82.2%), counselling (90.1%), dissemination (30.7%) and evaluation (50.5%). The staff in libraries are insufficient. In many cases technicians assume an overwork of serving in both (virtual and hospital libraries). Most libraries offer training and research support services although there are differences between virtual and hospital ones. There is a relationship between the number of technicians and the publication support services.

In this study, the authors built a decision supporting system in order to assist technicians in making priority refinement. A method used in this study is multi-objective optimization on the basis of the ratio analysis (MOORA). The Moora method is a suitable method to use in this study due to its simplicity and mathematical computational characteristics. The calculation process of the MOORA method is based on the criteria and weights. Criteria are the type of damage, risk of a complaint, duration of the claim, and type of service. The result of this study provides three recommendations. Those are This study provides recommendations for her top three options. As a result of the calculation using Moora's method in this research case, the damage type of the Internet network is the library service with the highest priority, the damage level is 1, the request time is 12 hours for him, and the service type is public service. In this study, samples with high criterion weights and high criterion scores tended to be prioritized over other samples. The following study, researchers suggest adding criteria using types of cost-benefit analysis criteria instead of weighting.

Abstract:
Abstract Infrared (IR) spectroscopy is used to analyze urinary calculus (renal stone) constituents. However, interpretation of IR spectra for quantifying urinary calculus constituents in mixtures is difficult, requiring expert knowledge by trained technicians. In our laboratory IR spectra of unknown calculi are compared with references spectra in a computerized library search of 235 reference spectra from various mixtures of constituents in different proportions, followed by visual interpretation of band intensities for more precise semiquantitative determination of the composition. To minimize the need for this last step, we tested artificial neural network models for detecting the most frequently occurring compositions of urinary calculi. Using constrained mixture designs, we prepared various samples containing ammonium hydrogen urate, brushite, carbonate apatite, cystine, struvite, uric acid, weddellite, and whewellite for use as a training set. We assayed known artificial mixtures as well as selected patients' samples from which the semiquantitative compositions were determined by computerized library search followed by visual interpretation. Neural network analysis was more accurate than the library search and required less expert knowledge because careful visual inspection of the band intensities could be omitted. We conclude that neural networks are promising tools for routine quantification of urinary calculus compositions and for other related types of analyses in the clinical laboratory.

Abstract:
This article examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on computer and Internet access services in Canadian public libraries as well as the implications of this lack of access for people facing socioeconomic barriers, and how Canadian public libraries could address digital divide issues in the post-pandemic era. Recommendations on future pandemic preparedness for public libraries are also discussed in this article. This research project conducted a bilingual (English and French) online survey targeting public library technicians, librarians, and library board members across Canada. From 1,631 research invitation emails sent to public library staff across Canada and three Facebook posts on Canadian public library staff groups, over a one-year period from November 3, 2021, to November 6, 2022. 226 individuals participated in the online survey questionnaire. Findings suggest that the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated social inequalities in Canada, including access to computers and the Internet. The digital divide could lead to poor health outcomes and put existing disadvantaged populations at greater risk in terms of future employment opportunities. The digital divide needs to be addressed so that Canadians in low-income households and those living with disabilities do not get left behind. Importantly, public libraries in Canada have been working tirelessly to equalize access to computers, the Internet, and digital literacy training and support. Their determination, social responsibility, and professional ethics need to be acknowledged. Finally, this article's recommendations for future pandemic preparedness in Canadian public libraries may also be applicable and beneficial to public libraries globally.

Abstract:
Artificial intelligence (AI) and expert systems are essential and vital tools to counter potentially dangerous threats in cyber security. The protection of data requires skilled cyber security technicians for various types of roles. The essential role of an expert system is to monitor the threats and assist the technician to strengthen security. The system uses various datasets like a machine and deep learning as well as reinforced learning in order to make intelligent decisions. The Internet of things (IoT) is one of the major concerns for cyber security because it is potentially the second most likely vulnerable link in the cyber security environment because an attacker can easily gain access to the system by breaching any IoT device that is connected to the system. Still human is the strongest and potentially the weakest link in the cyber security environment. This review intends to present AI and expert systems for cyber security.

Abstract:
This article presents the results of a documentary research regarding the current state of Organization and Representation of Musical Information (ORMI) in Portugal. Many authors describe the national scene of ORMI as very shortcoming, due to the usual difficulties: time vs. detail in the description and lack of knowledge of musical language by the technicians Information professionals. A survey of the monographs and articles as of 2011 that make a critical revision to the works of ORMI of several institutions was made, aiming to: 1) perceive their current state and 2) understand its strengths and weaknesses. We identified in these studies the analytic categories to create afterwards a classification structure by disciplinary areas, which shows semantic, structural and quality heterogeneity. The majority of Finding Aids are being produced by musicology projects with structures that respond to their information representation needs.

Abstract:
Purpose This paper uses the GB/T20984-2007 multiplicative method to assess the information security risk of a typical digital library in compliance with the principle and thought of ISO 27000. The purpose of this paper is to testify the feasibility of this method and provide suggestions for improving information security of the digital library. Design/methodology/approach This paper adopts convenience sampling to select respondents. The assessment of assets is through analyzing digital library-related business and function through a questionnaire which collects data to determine asset types and the importance of asset attributes. The five-point Likert scale questionnaire method is used to identify the threat possibility and its influence on the assets. The 12 respondents include directors and senior network technicians from the editorial department, comic library, children’s library, counseling department and the learning promotion centre. Three different Guttman scale questionnaires, tool testing and on-site inspection are combined to identify and assess vulnerabilities. There were different Guttman scale questionnaires for management personnel, technical personnel and general librarian. In all, 15 management librarians, 7 technical librarians and 72 ordinary librarians answered the vulnerability questionnaire. On-site inspection was conducted on the basis of 11 control domains of ISO 27002. Vulnerabilities were scanned using remote security evaluation system NSFOCUS. The scanning covered ten IP sections and a total of 81 hosts. Findings Overall, 2,792 risk scores were obtained. Among them, 282 items (accounting for 10.1 per cent of the total) reached the high risk level; 2 (0.1 per cent) reached the very high risk level. High-risk items involved 26 threat types (accounting for 44.1 per cent of all threat types) and 13 vulnerability types (accounting for 22.1 per cent of all vulnerability types). The evaluation revealed that this digital library faces seven major hidden dangers in information security. The assessment results were well accepted by staff members of this digital library, which testified to the applicability of this method to a Chinese digital library. Research limitations/implications This paper is only a case study of a typical Chinese digital library using a digital library information security assessment method. More case-based explorations are necessary to prove the feasibility of the assessing strategy proposed in this study. Originality/value Based on the findings of recent literature, the authors found that very few researchers have made efforts to develop methods for calculating the indicators for digital library information security risk assessment. On the basis of ISO 27000 and other related information security standards, this case study proposed an operable method of digital library information security risk assessment and used it to assess a the information security of a typical Chinese digital library. This study can offer insights for formulating a digital library information security risk assessment scale.
