Abstract:

Abstract:
This thesis investigates the field of spincavitronics, focusing on the strong coupling between magnons and photons in three-dimensional (3D) cavities, leading to the formation of cavity magnon polaritons (CMPs). We explore the transition between the strong coupling and ultra-strong coupling regimes, achieving coupling strengths between 12% and 58% of the cavity frequency at room temperature. Magnons, with their tunable frequencies and long coherence times, are promising candidates for quantum memory and other quantum technologies, offering applications in quantum computing and long-distance quantum communication. Our research contributes to the development of a deeper understanding of magnon-photon interactions, with implications for improving the coupling strength and optimizing hybrid quantum systems. Additionally, this work presents a detailed study of the level attraction phenomenon between magnons and antiresonant photonic modes in 3D cavities. This phenomenon enables non-reciprocal photon transmission, which is essential for the design of advanced communication devices such as circulators and quantum memory systems. We develop a physical model to explain the emergence of these antiresonances, supported by experimental validation and simulations. These insights open new pathways for applying level attraction mechanisms in sensing technologies and quantum information processing, demonstrating the versatility of spincavitronics for future advancements in both quantum technologies and radiofrequency applications

Abstract:
Previous research indicates that women are judged on the amount of food eaten and that both men and women are judged on the type of food eaten. This study is an attempt to determine whether meal size or type predominantly accounts for these findings on the variables of masculinity, femininity, attractiveness, thinness, fitness, and likability. Physical activity was also included to determine its effect on these variable. Subjects used were 313 undergraduate students. Results indicate that meal type is more influential than meal size and that physical activity significantly influences judgements of others. The results are discussed in terms of future research and relatedness to socio-cultural theories of eating disorders.

The attraction effect refers to a situation in which adding an inferior alternative to a choice set increases the share of the relatively dominating alternative. This re-search posits that decision task type affect the attraction effect. People usually seek justification for their decisions. In a selection (or rejection) task, they are more likely to emphasize the positive (or negative) features of each option. The addition of an asymmetrically dominated decoy to a binary set of options undoubtedly provides an extra positive feature for the dominant option, and therefore induces a greater attrac-tion effect. Contrarily, in a rejection task condition, the decoy in the trinary set seems to be the worst option and would be eliminated first, and the remaining comparison is identical with the original binary condition. Therefore, the attraction effect may de-crease. Besides, the decision task type interacts with the construal level to affect the attraction effect. Specifically, a low construal level, compared with a high construal level, dampens the attraction effect to a greater extent in a rejection task than in a se-lection task. Results from three experiments support the proposed hypotheses.

Nansongole, Noah Edson. "Determinants of foreign direct investment in tourism : the case of Malawi / Noah Edson Nansongole." Thesis, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10394/11747.

Full text
Abstract:
Foreign Direct Investment, in spite of several challenges, is hailed as one of the vehicles for economic development, especially in developing countries. In the tourism industry, FDI brings much needed capital, technology, marketing skills and operations systems that would otherwise not be available in the host country. Both developed and developing countries are always competing to attract FDI to their countries. The primary goal of this study was therefore to investigate factors that investors consider when undertaking FDI into the tourist accommodation sector in Malawi. Malawi remains one of the few countries in Africa which has not attracted meaningful FDI into its tourist accommodation sector. The objective of the study is fourfold; to analyse foreign direct investment, to identify country and industry level factors that influence tourism FDI, to analyse Malawi's general investment climate and to make recommendations to government and industry on attracting FDI. The study conducted a literature study on general FDI and tourism-specific FDI and the Malawi investment climate. An empirical study was carried out, through a quantitative research method. The sample was derived using a probability sampling method and was extracted from a national tourist accommodation database. The research found that there is a strong relationship between the source country of tourist accommodation FDI in Malawi and tourist source countries. It also found that economic factors, perception and infrastructure, government policy, competitiveness and nature are important considerations when investing in the Malawi tourist accommodation sector, in that order. Industry level factors that respondents found important are protection of investment, availability of fresh water, labour disturbances I unrest and tourist receipts. Whilst the Malawi government uses investment incentives as a key to FDI attraction, researchers found that incentives are not ranked as important to prospective investors.

He, Li. "Assessing visitors' place attachment and associated intended behaviours related to tourism attractions." Thesis, 2013. https://vuir.vu.edu.au/24390/.

Full text
Abstract:
Place attachment, referring to the affective links between people and places, is an important concept linking people, place, and certain place-related phenomena. Central to the role of place attachment in place-related research fields is its ability to explain perceptions and behaviours in people’s interactions with places as a result of affection. Whilst it has been suggested that the concept of place attachment can assist in better understanding visitors’ behaviours in tourism settings, research adopting the concept in tourism is still limited. Only a few studies have touched on place attachment in the context of tourism, among which the two principle topics covered are: (i) local residents’ place attachment towards their tourism-based community and (ii) visitors’ place attachment towards destinations. Research on the former topic is aligned in nature to studies assessing residents’ place attachment to their residential places in environmental psychology, while the latter topic, which focuses on a unique type of place attachment, requires much more academic attention. This thesis addresses the need for further investigation of visitors’ place attachment in tourism settings. Limited studies to date have investigated visitor place attachment exclusively beyond destination level. Given tourism attractions, which serve as destination flagships have been ignored as the primary settings with which to study visitors’ emotional attachments, tourism attractions were chosen to explore whether descriptions of place attachment at the destination level may also apply to visitors’ place attachment perceived at the attraction level. The purpose of the current study was to understand the extent of visitors’ place attachment towards tourism attractions and its associations with the nature of attraction, the characteristics of visitors and their trip patterns, as well as visitors’ behavioural intentions and perceptions.

Sexually attractive fashion apparel has risen due to feminism and self-consciousness. Females have gained the right to making decisions on behalf of their own bodies. Many young females regard the pursuit of sexually attractive, revealing clothing as a way of expressing the glory and self-confidence of their bodies’ aesthetics. By showing their female body curves, they fully convey “the charm of sexiness and sex”. Through their bodies, they express their desires and reflect their characteristics traits. As a result, the cultural phenomenon of revealing apparel has become the key component in giving prominence to the real charm of contemporary women. However, so far, many of the research studies on the attractiveness of female bodies emphasize on the discussions of beauty, weight loss, plastic surgery, and female self-consciousness. Only a few studies focus on the influence of revealing clothing on the level of sexiness. Moreover, there is a slight difference between sexiness and obscenity. If sexiness surpasses a certain level, it will be caught in the mire of obscenity. Therefore, the boundaries between sexiness and obscenity are clearly and specifically defined by clarifying the influence of different groups’ revealing clothing on the level of sexiness in the design of sexy clothing and finding out the sequence of ideas of sexiness and design elements in diverse clothing patterns. In this way, the index and standard of clothing’s sexiness could be established. Furthermore, a set of design model for sexy fashion clothing could be developed, which serves as the motive and purpose of this study. Therefore, through literature review and compilation, this study first explored the cultural phenomenon of bareness, the development and features of sexually attractive clothing, sexually attractive parts of female body, and the relationship between fashion design and bareness. Through this, various kinds of sexy fashion design and styles could be analyzed. Then, through Fuzzy Delphi Method and Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process, the index for sexually attractive areas of female body and the level of clothing’s bareness were established. Investigation of the influence of different groups’ revealing clothing on the level of sexiness in the design of sexy clothing was carried out. Secondly, through Fuzzy Interpretive Structural Model, the index of sexually attractive clothing design and its relevance were explored. Finally, the above described results were compiled and developed into a specific set of “Sexually Attractive Fashion Clothing Innovative Matrix Design Model”. In addition, actual design case studies were used to verify the feasibility and relevance of this model. The results of the study show that: (1) regarding the bareness of sexy parts of apparel, through Fuzzy Delphi Method and experts’ consensus, there are six aspects and 25 criteria. The aspects include neck, collarbone, chest, waist, back, and legs. (2) In terms of the degree of clothing’s bareness, there is a significant difference between females and males’ belief in sexiness. What males want to see might not necessarily be what females want to reveal. Males’ belief in sexiness mainly inclines toward legs and chest. On the other hand, the sexy parts that females want to reveal are legs and neck. Among them, the top three criteria rated by the female group A (41-55 years old) consist of: legs taking up 30.2%, neck taking up 21.3%, and collarbone taking up 18.1%. The female group C (26-40 years old) rated neck as 28.4%, legs as 22.3%, and waist as 20.5%. The top three criteria rated by the male group B (41-55 years old) consist of: legs taking up 38.4%, chest taking up 19.4%, and waist taking up 14.5%. The male group D (26-40%) rated legs as 28.9%, chest as 23.9%, and neck as 18.1%. (3) In different groups, the female group A emphasizes on sexy expressions of clothing styles, including fully revealed collarbone, off shoulder, tying string in a slanted way, fully revealed shoulders, deep v-shaped back, long skirt, high slit, and knee-length skirt. The male group B places emphasis on styles including mini skirt, high slit, slightly revealed chest, long skirt, knee-length skirt, u-shaped back design, fully revealed collarbone, fully revealed waist, half revealed chest, and slightly revealed waist. With regard to hips and legs, they emphasize on skirts with simple designs to enhance body shapes. The female group C emphasizes on revealing styles that have designs such as slanted strings that extend the line of neck. Emphasis is also placed on curve-shaped designs to highlight waistline and collarbone. Off shoulder, high slit, fully revealed waist, and deep v-shaped back are emphasized. In terms of hips and legs, they emphasize on simple design of skirts to bring out youthfulness and liveliness. The male group D emphasizes on revealing styles such as mini skirts that show shapes of beautiful legs, knee-length skirts, fully revealed waist, slanted string, and fully revealed collarbone. With respect to the chest, emphasis is placed on half revealed chest, slightly revealed chest, slightly covered chest. These are all sexually attractive presentations that the male group D cannot resist. (4) In the index of sexually attractive fashion design, according to the information compiled from literature review and structural questionnaire survey investigation, a total of 15 design influential factors were obtained. Among them, the top five important criteria are external style, style presentation, hand sewing, tailoring skills, and level of bareness. (5) To ensure the mutual relationship between design factors, the study used Fuzzy Interpretive Structural Model to build multi-layer graphic relationship. Through this structural analysis of factors, the inter-influential, subordinate and hierarchical relationship between design factors were effectively clarified. Among them, factors of the design entrance include level of bareness, profit margins, main fabric, popularity, and color application. The factors of design exit include market prospects, cost calculation, selection of accessories, hand sewing, and tailoring skills. In addition, four-quadrant diagram of factors distribution was drawn according to driving force and reliance force, with which the distribution relationship diagram of key deciding factors of sexy clothing design could be derived. In this way, designers could create sexually attractive clothing that complies with the expected design properties. (6) Through the quantitative matrix structure, sexually attractive fashion clothing innovative matrix model was established. At the same time, actual design and production of eight models of sexy clothing were carried out specifically for different groups and different needs of bareness. With respect to verification of creation and actual examples of design, two models of group A: (a) Elegant sexiness model: pressed willow fabric patterns were used to demonstrate the soft texture of fabric. The zigzag patterns on the skirt extend the curve line of the legs. The bow off shoulder show the temperament of sexiness and elegance; (b) Beautiful sexiness model: the combination of shiny fabric material design with lace, multi-layered cake mini skirt, fully revealed collarbone design show sexy and beautiful style. The two models of group B include: (a) Captivating sexiness model: closefitting super-short dress fully shows the curves of female bodyline. The transparent hexagonal material on the front chest creates a seductive faintly discernible nakedness. Coupling with the design of feather gemstones, wild explosive power is manifested. (b) Retro sexiness model: A combination of transparent leopard burning flowers fabric material and shiny fabric hides graceful body behind a thin layer of gauze, completely releasing women’s sexiness. The ostrich feather neckline manifests the affectionate charm of light retro nobleness. Two models of group C include: (a) Fashionable sexiness model: pretty super mini dress shows lines of long legs. The folding design on the front chest and water-drop shape emphasize the fullness and lines of chests. The 3-dimensional beading design on the neckline shows fashionable sexiness. (b) Seductive sexiness model: the combination of paisley pattern material and pressed pattern shiny fabric, with slightly revealed front chest and deep v back design. 3-dimensional flower beading enhances the flowing lines of the back. The high-slit skirt reveals the flirtatious sentiment of women. Two models of group D include: (a) Extreme sexiness model: the transparent gauze design on the front chest makes the chest shape faintly discernible. The closefitting pencil skirt outlines women’s graceful body curves. The beadings sewn on the neckline bring out the delicacy of nostalgia, fully showing the female character of elegance and loveliness. (b) Contradictory sexiness model: the design of shorts fully shows fashionable cuteness and beauty. The diamond mesh on the waist fully reveals the waist curve lines. In addition, leather tassels unrestrainedly interpret the sense of conflict between modernity and wildness. With the results of this study, it is hoped that a systematic design procedure and analytical tool of new product design and development could be provided to the professional fields of sexually attractive fashion design. In this way, the degree of sexy clothing could be effectively controlled and the utilization of production could be designed.
