Abstract:

Abstract:
The research entitled “Using the Communicative Language Teaching Method to Improve the Students’ English Speaking Fluency” aims to examine the implementation of CLT method in the classroom, figure out the students’ improvement in English speaking fluency, and reveal the influencing factors after the implementation of CLT method. This research used the quasi experimental design. The subjects of this research were the eleventh grade students of SMAN 4 Purwokerto in the academic year of 2019/2020. The population was 340 students divided into 10 classes. The samples of this research were two classes: XI MIPA 1 as the experimental group and XI MIPA 3 as the control group. The data were collected from observations, questionnaires, and tests. The result of this research shows that the implementation of CLT method was successful. It can be seen from the observation sheet that the teacher followed the implementation of CLT method, such as the teacher had prepared the materials well; the materials were approved by the teacher which based on the syllabus and curriculum; the teacher clearly gave the instructions; the teacher asked the students to speak freely, encouraged the students to speak in English, fully spoke in English, and provided the appropriate tasks to improve the students’ speaking fluency. Furthermore, the students’ English speaking fluency has improved. It means that the implementation of CLT method has significant effect that the alternative hypothesis (Hi) is accepted. The result of questionnaires and observations show that the factors influencing the implementation of CLT method were cognitive, linguistic, and affective factors.

Abstract:
As a foreign language, English is very good to be taught from an early age because an early age is a golden age where children can understand learning material faster. However, teaching English to young learners is not easy. They are easily bored, and also easily distracted. Thus, teachers are required to provide fun and interesting learning activities. Therefore, researchers developed media in the form of animation videos to assist teachers in conveying learning to students as well as attracting their attention. This media does not only refer to vocabulary but also listening, reading, speaking, and writing. In this study, researchers used the ADDIE development model (analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation). The data in this study were collected by observation, distributing questionnaires, and interview methods. The instruments used in collecting data are questionnaires and tests. After doing research, it is proven that by applying animation video media, the level of student learning is increasing. In conclusion, teachers are advised to apply animation videos in teaching English for young learners so that the teaching and learning process becomes effective and fun.

Abstract:
School Literacy Program is expected to be able to develop students' interest in reading. However, in practice, schools can still not achieve these goals indicated by the existence of challenges in its implementation. Thus, this study aimed at describing the challenges faced by EFL teachers in implementing school literacy programs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conducting a descriptive qualitative study, four EFL junior high school teachers were interviewed using a semi-structured interview. The results of the study show that the EFL teachers were challenged by four factors in implementing the school literacy program during COVID-19, namely, 1) students' interest in reading, 2) the technical challenges, 3) the teacher's lack of understanding about the school literacy program, 4) time management. These four factors were considered some of the challenges, such as students read in order to fulfil the obligation to fill out daily journals, not because of their own desires, technological illiteracy, and inadequate source of online reading. Therefore, the practitioners of school activities can respond and take thoughtful actions regarding the problems they face in implementing the school literacy program.

Abstract:
As a social creature, human beings need society to live in. There is always a power to survive in society including being survive to communicate. In exchanging the message to one another, people use language and some strategies in purpose of being successful to deliver meaning that they want. Among those strategies, there are code switching and code mixing, which is used when people communicate in multilingual society. Code switching is when a speaker uses strategy to switch from one language to another, whether code mixing is when a speaker mix the language and use it in an utterance. In this study, the object of the research is a Youtube channel called #nebengboy. This channel hosted by bilingual talented Indonesian host who usually speak fluent both in Indonesian and English. The finding shows that there are many types of code switching and code mixing use in the conversation of this Youtube channel, both by the host and the guest. From the findings, it can be concluded that the host, uses many code switching and code mixing for some reasons. This reasons can be one of the consideration for people to create a successful and meaningful communication in multilingual society.

Abstract:
Difficulties in translating figures of speech should not be allowed to occur for a long time. There must be an effort to solve the problem immediately. Introducing electronic devices to facilitate the translation of figures of speech in the form of a transtool is an important effort to do. One of the efforts is to use the E-Litrans Tool as an electronic device that can improve the quality of the figures of speech translation. This trans tool was tested in experimental research of translating figures of speech from Indonesian to English and vice versa. Three figures of speech, metaphor, simile, and personification, were focused to analyze in this research because they are more widely used in everyday life in the Indonesian context. The three types of figures of speech are arranged into a set of test items, each consisting of 5 pieces so that there are 15 figures of speech. One set of test items was given to the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group consisted of 22 students while the control group consisted of 25 students. All of these students came from translation classes that we taught. The experimental group was treated using the E-Litrans Tool in translating figures of speech, while the control group was not. Based on the research results, it was known that the E-Litrans Tool was able to significantly improve the translation quality of the experimental group. The average translation quality score of the experimental group after using the E-Litrans Tool increased from 60.2 to 95.8. It means that there was an increase in the average value of 35.6. So the overall mean score of their translation quality is 78.36. The translation quality for the control group that did not use the E-Litrans Tool was insignificant and dropped drastically. The mean pretest and posttest scores were 56.88 and 55.84 or the overall mean score of their translation quality was 56.4 without the progress, even dropped decreasingly up to 1.04. It can be concluded that E-Litrans Tool increased the figures of speech translation quality scores significantly. Therefore, we suggest that translators can use the E-Litrans Tool to improve the quality of their figures of speech translation results.

Abstract:
The article argues that the non-literal way of thinking is the potential force in creating language creativity in lives. Besides to be brought as a means of communication, language should be delivered in a more personal and mediating for every student’s individual character, voice, culture, and background. The direction of ELT is still to the conformity to situational communicative functions. Class is considered as a place for equipping students with situational-linguistic features so they are able to fulfill the communicative demands in some particular situations (science). Language deviation can be introduced to the class for the students to be able to cloth free and personal feeling, thoughts, and aspirations (fashion). The study applied library-study approach to answer the inquiries. It suggests that Language deviation requires the user to have prior knowledge in English and to have higher level of creativity. Students can learn to play with the language by applying foregrounding. Foregrounding involves stylistic distortion of a certain language at any level of language. In classrooms, teachers can apply lexical distortion in the form of neologism and semantic distortion to challenge students to be able to think beyond literal meaning.

Abstract:
In the western world, Islam has been interpreted based on stereotypes of muslims. The stereotype image leads to the fact that many Muslims in Sweden today are forced to face Islamophobia and preconceptions about Islam's meaning. To enhance the image of Islam, lived religion as field of research is useful as it opens the opportunity to study people's lived experiences of religious traditions beyond religious institutions and doctrines. The field can show how religious traditions are expressed in people's everyday lives by lifting the voices of individuals which are not otherwise noted. Lived Islam is thus an area that highlights Muslims' living experiences of Islam in their daily lives. In this essay, lived Islam is studied as it may occur among individuals who define themselves as women and Muslims in Karlstad, Sweden. The aim is to enhance the image of Islam and raise female experiences of Islam. This will broaden the already existing research spectra that usually takes an androcentric perspective. The women's experiences are investigated through life stories interviews. Based on a material perspective on religion, the paper examines how Islam is manifested and expressed through material practices, objects, and different phenomena in the women’s everyday life. The result shows that Islam is described as a framework of how life is interpreted and expected to be lived. Islam is expressed in form of material practices like for example regular prayers, but also as an approach to the outside world. Lived Islam in Karlstad, as it can be expressed among individuals who define themselves as women and Muslims can be said to mean a perspective that encompasses all content in life. The Muslim women in the paper are positive about their life’s in Karlstad, but some elements can also complicate everyday life, such as meetings with preconceptions about Islam and the Muslim woman.

Abstract:
Religious traditions are something that all of us have learnt about in school, even if we do not have a personal connection to a specific religion. Studies have shown that there is a discrepancy between what we learn about religious traditions and religiosity in school, and how religious people practice their faith in everyday life. How the religious tradition plays a part of an individual’s identity is not something that school textbooks specifically explains. For example, the course material does not mention how geographical context affects a person’s religiosity, even though the course curriculum, that is being studied in this thesis clearly states that you have to give examples of how different aspects of someone’s identity affect their religious identity.    This thesis discusses how Lived Religion can be included in course material as well as in the teaching of religious education in school in order to give a more accurate and more democratic picture of religiosity. Lived religion is a perspective that capture how individuals express their religious tradition and how religiosity could look like in different contexts. To use Lived religion as a complement in education could also help the pupils to achieve what the objectives in the curriculum asks for. Nevertheless, even if Lived religion is a helpful compliment to the traditional way of teaching the topic of religion, this thesis also shows that is it important to be aware of how this new perspective is used. If the perspective of Lived religion is not used correctly in classroom or how you explain someone’s religious identity, it could have greater negative consequences than its positive gain.   The title of this thesis aims to points towards how Lived religion can communicate a more complete picture of what religiosity is. The thesis argues that it is problematic to omit e.g. religious tradition or geographical context from an individual’s identity. That is also one of the main points of Lived religion, which is that religious identity is the religion lived out in the day-to-day life.

Abstract:
Background: Organ transplantation gives new hope and new life to patients. Renal failure is a chronic, devastating disease that affects many aspects of the patients' lives. The most effective treatment for chronic kidney failure is transplantation. Research shows how patients experience life after kidney transplantationAim: The aim is to collect scientific articles that highlight the patient's experience of life after transplantation.Method: Literature study with thematic analysis of ten scientific articles with qualitative approach. Results: The study results showed that some of the patients experienced many positive changes, but there were also some who experienced a few limitations. Living with a new kidney led to a sense of freedom, joy, happiness, and opportunity to be able to plan more over a long term. The fear and concern that the new kidney could be rejected, guilt over receiving someone else's kidney, life-long treatment and high expectations led to a limited life. The results showed no significant difference between women’s and men's experiences of life after kidney transplantation, but certain variations could be discerned. Conclusion: The study revealed different aspects of the experience of life after renal transplantation. Before this study was expected only the good aspects and believed that it would only be a relief for patients as the previously lasted on the verge of death. Even if patients feel that they had a better life than before the transplant there are times when they despair, and think that the improvements they experience only temporary.

Mohammadi, Abdulreza Tabe. "Electrochemistry of lead and lead alloy anodes in lead-acid batteries for photovoltaic energy storage." Thesis, University of Ottawa (Canada), 1991. http://hdl.handle.net/10393/7884.

Full text
Abstract:
The performance of lead-acid batteries for energy storage in photovoltaic/diesel/battery hybrid systems strongly depends on several electrochemical and/or operational factors such as the alloying elements incorporated in the electrode plates, the addition of expander materials to the anode or to the electrolyte, temperature, and the charging regime of the battery. In this study, the influences of the above mentioned factors on battery performance were investigated using cyclic voltammetry and potentiostatic transient techniques supplemented by surface analysis techniques including scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The behaviour of binary lead-calcium and lead-antimony, and ternary lead-calcium-tin and lead-antimony-selenium alloy anodes were compared to that of the pure lead anode. In addition, the effect of ammonium ligno-sulphonate (ALS), as an expander added to the electrolyte, on the anode behaviour, was studied at room (23$\sp\circ$C) and cold (0$\sp\circ$C) temperatures.

Abstract:
The number of men and women suffering from alcohol dependency is increasing.Today there are shortcomings in knowledge about the lived experiences of being a woman or a man with alcohol dependency; knowledge which might be of importance for meeting these individual’s specific care needs. The overall aim of the study was to obtain a deeper understanding of women and men's experience of living with alcohol dependency and being professionally cared for. The qualitative investigation design was exploratory and founded in a life world perspective. Data were collected from fourteen women and fifteen men with alcohol dependency by means of open in-depth interviews and subjected to a phenomenological-hermeneutic analysis. It was found that living with alcohol dependency encompasses a complex but limited life situation in which both women and men strive for social acceptance and adjustment. Women turned out to live a more introverted life than men and presented false facades. Men turned out to live a life in action, risk taking and control. Professional caring was shown to mean availability and confirmation of needs. For men with alcohol dependency professional caring meant support and gentle guidance in their active struggle against their alcohol dependency. For women, professional caring meant having an active caregiver who cherished them and enabled them to rest. Professional caring reduced senses of shame in both women and men. It may be concluded that in order to offer care for men and women with alcohol dependency professional carers have to consider gender specific needs of support and guidance. In addition, in order to alleviate suffering, professional caregivers have to be accessible, supportive and directed toward the alcohol dependent women's and men’s everyday world.

Abstract:
Background: Within palliative care setting persons with terminal illness is cared for. The aim of the care is to enhance the quality of life for the patient through a holistic approach. The disease can lead to major suffering and require the person to handle the situation. If the person´s ability and capacity to do so is insufficient the identity may be perceived as threatened and quality of life diminished. Self-care can help a person to cope with loss of identity, enhance independence and improve quality of life. Aim: The aim of this study is to explore self-care strategies of patients within palliative care setting.   Methods: The work is a systematic literature review based on ten scientific articles. Both qualitative and quantitative articles are used. Meaningful units in relation to the aim of the study were identified in the result of the articles and  analyzed. New themes and subthemes were formed. In the discussion the result is discussed with Orem self-care deficit nursing theory. Results: The results identified various self-care actions aimed at enhancing the quality of life. Two themes were identified, one theme was to live until death and describes various self-care strategies, where the aim is to maintain normatility and identity. The second theme was to be within the sick body and consisted of strategies related to the disease from which the person suffered. Discussions: The discussion discussed and strengthened the results by linking to literature in other contexts, and Orem´s self-care deficit nursing theory. We argue for the importance of self-care for the whole person and supports this with the reasoning of Orem.
