Più o meno un decennio fa è iniziata la terza rivoluzione della lettura che è stata diagnosticata da esperti come Adriaan Van der Weel. Da allora si leggono soprattutto testi digitali, per esempio emails, messaggi whatsapp, tweets, pagine internet, ma anche romanzi e articoli scientifici. In questa rivoluzione della lettura si è imposto il cosiddetto skimming, un tipo di lettura che si presta soprattutto per internet e i testi in formato digitale. Si tratta di una lettura superficiale che permette di estrarne solo le informazioni più importanti. Pare però che in questa rivoluzione si sia incrinata la propensione alla lettura approfondita, definita deep reading, che è necessaria allo studio. Questa lacuna è causata dalla nostra “mente distratta” (Gazzaley/Rosen) che l’éra digitale ci ha imposto.

Progetto Qloud Scuola è un’iniziativa no profit di innovazione digitale e metodologica al servizio della lettura nella scuola. Nato per volontà di quattro soci fondatori con lunga esperienza nel mondo della biblioteconomia, della progettazione software, della data science e dell'intelligenza artificiale, Progetto Qloud Scuola persegue le proprie finalità in modo originale, potendo contare su capacità proprie di progettazione e di sviluppo nell'ambito delle piattaforme digitali open source orientate alla user experience. Rilevando la materiale assenza nel nostro paese di piattaforme espressamente dedicate alla gestione della biblioteca scolastica, l'Ente no profit ha avviato la progettazione e lo sviluppo in proprio di "Qloud Scuola", arrivando al suo primo rilascio gratuito nel 2019. Da allora, la piattaforma si è diffusa dapprima in tutte le regioni e poi capillarmente in tutte le province, andando ben oltre le previsioni dei suoi progettisti e determinando di conseguenza un'imponente esigenza di formazione per migliaia di docenti e insegnanti. Così, perseguendo l’obiettivo della piena sostenibilità per la scuola e operando nella totale gratuità, Progetto Qloud Scuola ha articolato un completo percorso formativo in cui, oltre alle procedure di catalogazione derivata e di automazione del prestito, docenti e insegnanti trovano un pieno supporto metodologico per la realizzazione ex novo della biblioteca scolastica o per la sua riprogettazione, in armonia con i più evoluti standard biblioteconomici e di pedagogia della lettura, seguendo le linee guida internazionali per le school libraries.

Questo articolo presenta il progetto Macchine per leggere, nato dalla collaborazione tra il Dipartimento di Studi letterari, filosofici e di storia dell’arte dell’Università di Roma “Tor Vergata” e il Centro per il Libro e la Lettura del MiC. Scopo del progetto è la realizzazione di un ambiente digitale (desktop e mobile) che introduca gli studenti della scuola secondaria di secondo grado alla conoscenza e all’utilizzo delle tecniche di analisi computazionale dei testi, qui proposte come spunto per accostarsi alla lettura dei classici della letteratura italiana (tra gli altri che saranno resi disponibili sul sito, Il piacere, I Malavoglia, Il fu Mattia Pascal…). L’approccio del distant reading e gli strumenti informatici per l’analisi e la rappresentazione dei corpora e per il text mining (word cloud, indici di frequenza di termini e sintagmi, topic modeling, sentiment e network analysis), uniti ad altre risorse come la geolocalizzazione su mappe digitali dei luoghi letterari, saranno presentati sia come metodo per simulare in ambiente virtuale reading strategies, che come modelli per integrare le prassi ermeneutiche tradizionali – close reading. In una sezione del sito dedicata, gli algoritmi di cui si darà dimostrazione saranno a disposizione degli studenti in forma di web app, così che possano sperimentare in autonomia e su altri testi in loro possesso l’approccio distant proposto nell’ambito del progetto.

La crisi del Coronavirus ha rappresentato una notevole sfida per gli archivi tedeschi. Tuttavia, questi hanno adattato la loro comunicazione interna e i loro compiti d'archivio tradizionali abbastanza rapidamente e con successo alle condizioni della pandemia. Per contro, la conservazione del materiale, l'uso pubblico e la mediazione sono state limitate. Gli utenti, dopo la proclamazione dello stato di pandemia, si sono adattati solo gradualmente a sostituire le visite alle sale di lettura con un uso più intenso dei servizi internet, cioè più richieste di ricerca e più ordini di copie digitali del materiale d'archivio. Gli archivi hanno spostato su internet le offerte di eventi e pubblicazioni, cosìcche le potenzialità dei social media sono state usate più intensamente. Nel complesso, la crisi del Coronavirus ha dato agli archivi tedeschi una notevole spinta verso il digitale.

La pandemia di Covid 19 ha imposto tutta una nuova serie di sfide da un giorno all'altro per le biblioteche di ricerca, ma soprattutto per le biblioteche pubbliche. Entrambe le categorie, come tutte le altre istituzioni pubbliche, sono state colpite dalle dure procedure di chiusura in misura considerevole. La loro attività di servizio «classica», cioè soprattutto l'uso dei media nelle sale di lettura e il prestito locale e interbibliotecario, si è fermata quasi completamente. Solo i servizi senza contatti personali potevano continuare ad essere utilizzati. Pertanto, i servizi elettronici sono fioriti, nella misura in cui erano già offerti dalle biblioteche. E non solo. È giusto dire che la pandemia ha fatto da «acceleratore» per molte funzioni nel settore bibliotecario, portando in primo piano quelle che in vari casi erano già in fase di crescita - come i servizi digitali - e d'altra parte ha suggerito che altri servizi analogici dovessero essere abbandonati o almeno temporaneamente messi da parte.

L’articolo si concentra, da una prospettiva che si avvale dello strumentario terminologico e teorico dell’ecologia dei media, su alcuni testi di finzione – Generation A di Douglas Coupland e The Raw Shark Texts di Steven Hall – in cui viene trattato il tema della possibile estinzione o sopravvivenza del letterario in una chiave di lettura che potremmo definire ecodistopica. In un periodo caratterizzato da cambiamenti climatici e disastri ambientali, anche questi testi esprimono preoccupazioni profonde riguardo all’ambiente narrativo – radicalmente modificato dal digitale – attingendo a piene mani al campo metaforico della sostenibilità, dello sfruttamento ed esaurimento delle risorse e dell’evoluzione e rigenerazione delle forme, con un focus particolare sull’elemento acquatico.

RESUMOO presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar se o uso do software educativo HagáQuê auxilia os alunos no processo de leitura e escrita em contexto digital. Com uma metodologia de caráter qualitativa e pesquisa de campo com observação participante direta intensiva, o estudo envolveu professora e alunos em atuação no 5º ano do Ensino Fundamental pertencentes à rede municipal de ensino localizada no município de Minas Gerais. Os dados revelam que o trabalho articulado com a ferramenta tecnológica computador deve pautar-se através de um processo integrado, crítico, reflexivo e elaborado à luz dos objetivos educacionais. Verificou-se que a análise das histórias em quadrinhos criadas pelos alunos com a ajuda do software HagáQuê revela efetividade da prática da leitura e escrita de forma contextual. Conclui-se que o software educativo HagáQuê mostrou-se ser uma ferramenta interessante para esse processo ao provocar um interesse para uma maior aproximação com as funções sociais da linguagem. The data reveal that the work articulated with the computer technological tool must be guided by an integrated, critical, reflective and elaborated process in the light of educational objectives. It was found that the analysis of the comic books created by the students with the help of the HagáQuê software reveals the effectiveness of the practice of reading and writing in a contextual way. It is concluded that the educational software HagáQuê proved to be an interesting tool for this process by provoking an interest in a closer relationship with the social functions of language. Dai dati emerge che il lavoro articolato con lo strumento informatico deve essere guidato da un processo integrato, critico, riflessivo ed elaborato alla luce degli obiettivi formativi. Si è riscontrato che l'analisi dei fumetti creati dagli studenti con l'aiuto del software HagáQuê rivela l'efficacia della pratica di lettura e scrittura in modo contestuale. Questo saggio ripercorre le principali linee di sviluppo degli studi della multimodalità intesa come semiosi della comunicazione nell’ambito di derivazione angloamericana. La multimodalità è definita come una disciplina a sé e discussa nella sua epistemologia attraverso un excursus della sua storia ed evoluzione dalla fine degli anni Novanta ad oggi. Si passano in rassegna alcune scuole di pensiero della multimodalità, a partire dagli sviluppi socio-semiotici di matrice linguistica sistemico-funzionale elaborata da Michael A. K. Halliday in Inghilterra negli anni Settanta. Le principali teorie e prassi di analisi multimodale sono illustrate attraverso alcuni principi cardine per delineare l’ambito di applicazione e le aree privilegiate di indagine. Il saggio inoltre illustra le differenze teoriche e pratiche fra multimodalità e multimedialità, termini spesso utilizzati in modo interscambiabile e dunque improprio. Successivamente, si presenta un’analisi multimodale del video TikTok più popolare di un creator italiano, Khaby Lame, che ha raggiunto livelli di viralità tali da guadagnargli fama e successo a livello globale. L’analisi, di natura qualitativa classica, consiste in una trascrizione e annotazione integrale del breve video più visualizzato al momento della scrittura del saggio, per inquadrare i fenomeni della semiosi della comunicazione digitale in un ambito disciplinare più vasto rispetto alla linguistica pura. Questa apertura ad aspetti non verbali include nell’analisi delle risorse semiotiche elementi quali lo sguardo, il montaggio, la distanza fra partecipanti, la musica, i rumori ambientali, la distribuzione degli elementi nel tempo e nello spazio, e così via. Coerentemente con questo presupposto di base, le conclusioni invitano a un ripensamento della definizione stessa di “lingua della rete”, indicando nella multimodalità, sia come teoria sia come metodo, una prospettiva utile alla lettura consapevole, etica e inclusiva della complessa testualità digitale contemporanea.
Trajectories of multimodality: theoretical foundations and application model
This paper discusses the main theories that map out the development of multimodality as semiosis of communication within the Anglo-American tradition. An overview of the history and evolution of multimodality starting in the late Nineties will motivate the claim that this is a discipline in its own, with its specific epistemology. Some major theories within sociosemiotics approaches are outlined, as resulting from the developments of systemic-functional linguistics as theorized by Michael A. K. Halliday in the Seventies in the UK. Theories and methods will be presented by means of an illustration of some key concepts and principles, with a view to explore some potential applications and preferential objects of studies. The paper also sets out to explain the differences between the concepts of multimodality and multimediality, which are often used interchangeably, thus bringing about theoretical and empirical issues. As a case study, I have selected the most viewed TikTok video produced by an Italian creator, Khaby Lame, who has gained global recognition and immense popularity, to the point of allowing him to obtain Italian citizenship after almost twenty years of Italian residency. The qualitative analysis makes use the typical heuristic tools used by multimodal analysts, namely an integral transcription and annotation of the video, with the aim of showing the full range of the involved digital communicative phenomena that cannot be accounted for only on linguistic grounds. Broadening the domain of analysis beyond the tools provided by linguistics includes the analysis and description of non-verbal semiotic resources, such as gaze, editing, distance between participants, music, ambient sound, compositional strategies in time and space, among others. Consistent with this approach, the concluding remarks encourage further reflections of the very definition of the “language of the net”. It follows that theoretical and empirical research lines mapped out by multimodal studies may ultimately help promote awareness, ethics, and inclusion when engaging with contemporary digital textualities.

Questa introduzione al numero monografico riflette su come la digitalizzazione sta cambiando la qualità del lavoro e della vita lavorativa. Anzitutto, cercando di andare oltre a letture polarizzate e deterministiche, ricostruiamo il dibattito scientifico prestando particolare attenzione ai processi di soggettivizzazione che si intrecciano con le nuove tecnologie, e le forme di controllo e di autonomia che esse introducono. Sulla base della nostra lettura dei contributi raccolti, l'articolo offre poi una riflessione sui concetti e gli strumenti metodologici utilizzati e individua piste di ricerca futura per l'analisi del modo in cui le tecnologie digitali trasformano il lavoro e la qualità della vita lavorativa.

Managing letters related to residence in Babau Village usually takes a long time. Residents must meet directly with the head of the RT/RW in the domicile area to obtain a cover letter, then they can go to the Kelurahan office to arrange the intended documents. The problem that then arises is if the community cannot meet the RT/RW leader because of busy life. Likewise if it arrives at the Kelurahan office, it turns out that the Lurah is not there. This will certainly hinder the management process. In addition to the above problems, another problem that can also arise is the RT/RW cover letter that has the potential to be falsified.These problems can be solved by building a Digital Village platform where the community does not need to meet directly with the RT/RW but can use the existing platform to manage the required documents. The proposal letter that goes to RT/RW can be directly approved and forwarded to the Village Head to be approved and ready to be printed. Everything is done without the need for paperless paperwork.

The genre letter seen as a means of communication and the use of digital media tools are emphasised, the use of which in no way precludes keeping with established scholarly critical edition standards. The ‘behind the scenes’ of the project The Digital Edition of August Wilhelm Schlegel’s Correspondence is discussed, as are, in a more universal sense, Bourdieu’s critical ideas of theory and practice as applied to digital letter edition projects and their interests.

Der Beitrag schlägt vor, das Kino des digitalen Zeitalters als einen neuen Typus des Bildes zu lesen: als Neuro-Bild. Im Rückgriff auf Gilles Deleuzes Kino-Bücher sowie sein Werk Differenz und Wiederholung argumentiert der Beitrag, dass das Neuro-Bild in der Zukunft begründet sei. Abschließend wird das Kino von Alain Resnais als Neuro-Bild und digitales Kino avant la lettre vorgestellt. </br></br>This paper proposes to read cinema in the digital age as a new type of image, the neuroimage. Going back to Gilles Deleuze's cinema books and it is argued that the neuro-image is based in the future. The cinema of Alain Resnais is analyzed as a neuro-image and digital cinema .

Abstract Letters as a form of communication gain their meanings not least by performative practices hints of which are clearly shown in their materiality. Vice versa, the paper discusses the possibilities of performing and making a film of correspondences using the example of Paul Celan and Ingeborg Bachmann (published 2008) and its film version Die Geträumten (‘Dreamed people’, 2016). The performative aspects of letters may also be represented by audio books or picture books. Yet especially digital letter editions should examine the phatic and conative functions of letter communication supplying specially designed kinds of metadata and their visualizations. The ‚Jenaer Romantikertreffen‘ (‘Jena Meeting of Romanticists’) in 1799 serves as a final historical example.

Il fondo Anna Lolli, custodito nel Museo Storico Pietro Mascagni a Bagnara di Romagna, racchiude, oltre a materiale di varia natura (tra cui spartiti musicali, fotografie autografate, pubblicazioni relative al musicista, ritagli di giornali dell'epoca ecc.), un vero e proprio “tesoro nascosto” formato dal carteggio tra Mascagni ed Anna Lolli. Si tratta di alcune migliaia di lettere, ad oggi conosciute ancora solo da pochi, che costituisce una fonte di primaria importanza per ricostruire non solo la vita del Maestro ma anche quella di tutti coloro che gravitarono attorno a lui. L’articolo descrive il progetto di valorizzazione di questo carteggio che ha avuto inizio nel 2018 e che consentirà di portare alla luce questo immenso patrimonio culturale relativo ad uno dei musicisti più importanti del XX secolo.

Nel dominio dei beni culturali molte organizzazioni stanno applicando le tecnologie del web semantico e hanno affrontato progetti – alcuni dei quali sperimentali – di pubblicazione dei dati descrittivi del patrimonio culturale in linked open data (LOD): la sfida è far affiorare la conoscenza rappresentata dai dati rendendola immediatamente interpretabile dalle macchine. Attraverso la delicata fase di definizione non ambigua dei concetti e delle relazioni che rappresentano una determinata porzione di realtà (modellazione dei dati) il web semantico si pone come strumento per far emergere significati e produrre nuove relazioni reciproche. Questo contributo ha l’obiettivo di porre le basi per una prospettiva strategica di produzione e pubblicazione di LOD del patrimonio informativo esposto sul portale BeWeB – Beni ecclesiastici in web, scelto come esempio altamente rappresentativo del dominio culturale in virtù non solo dei suoi numeri – circa 12 milioni di schede descrittive di beni culturali di proprietà ecclesiastica – ma soprattutto della modalità in cui è costruito e quotidianamente popolato. Il portale è ideato e coordinato dall’Ufficio nazionale per i Beni Culturali ecclesiastici e l’Edilizia di culto della Conferenza Episcopale Italiana (Ufficio nazionale BCE – CEI), con l’ambizione di offrire una lettura d’insieme sui beni culturali di proprietà ecclesiastica conservati in Italia, dove gli authority data assumono il ruolo di punto di snodo per la tessitura di relazioni tra risorse culturali di natura diversa (risorse storico-artistiche, architettoniche, bibliografiche, archivistiche, fotografiche, istituti di conservazione). La proposta di integrazione nel web semantico del patrimonio informativo esposto sul portale BeWeB mira al raggiungimento di una piena interoperabilità semantica, attraverso l’analisi delle ontologie già presenti nel dominio culturale, per favorirne un loro riuso. BeWeB è dunque un case study presentato e introdotto da un inquadramento generale, utile a spiegare il contesto in cui sono inscritte le tecnologie che abilitano la realizzazione del web semantico e dei progetti di costruzione dei grafi della conoscenza (knowledge graph).

Computer vision is a data transformation retrieved or generated from webcam into another form in means of determining decision. All kinds of transformations are carried through to attain specific aims. One of the supporting techniques in implementing computer vision on a system is digital image processing as the objective of digital image processing is to transform digital-formatted picture so that it can be processed in computer. Computer vision and digital image processing can be implemented in a system of capital letter introduction and real-time handwriting reading on a whiteboard supported by artificial neural network mode “perceptron algorithm” used as a learning technique for the system to learn and recognize the letters. The way it works is captured in letter pattern using a webcam and generates a continuous image that is transformed into digital image form and processed using several techniques such as grayscale image, thresholding, and cropping image.

Abstract Daily communication today is predominantly digital, but contemporary novels continue to be interested in paper letters. Why? What do letters, written on paper, offer to the novel in the twenty-first century? This essay explores the material letter's contemporary value as metaphor, reading as a case study Ian McEwan's The Children Act. McEwan's novel dramatizes a conflict between religion and the secular law, which is an example of the type of dispute that Jean-François Lyotard identifies in The Differend: a dispute that is unresolvable because the process for regulating it is unable to register the wrong that one side suffers. In their different modes, these two texts consider intractable conflict and the ethics of its regulation, the workings of which are analyzed here through the suggestive correspondences between the dynamics of Lyotard's differend and those of letters. These correspondences derive, this essay argues, from the letter's material properties, which underlie its ability to function as metaphor. The letter's temporal structure of delay and the silences and instability that delay produces, in particular, have productive affinities with the workings of the differend. These correspondences help to delineate the conflicts of The Children Act and to reveal the value of the letter as metaphor more generally. This case study presents an example of the letter as a metaphorical resource, whose possibilities are distinct from those of digital communications and whose flexibility and nuance help to account for contemporary novels' continued interest in the letter.

Early childhood has difficulty remembering Latin letters or Roman characters than adults. Some of the factors that cause it are cognitive development, motivation, interest in learning, emotions and environmental factors. To overcome this, an innovative media is needed so that children can easily remember Latin letters. One of the innovative media applies digital image processing techniques and artificial intelligence. The fonts used are 10 types of letter models with image processing techniques such as preprocessing, binaryization, pixel mapping and creating vector as feature extraction. While the artificial intelligence used is the backpropagation method. The total data is 208 letter images with 625 input features with 500 epochs, the best learning rate used by the system is 0.025 so that the best training accuracy is 93.96% and testing accuracy is 92.31%.

Abstract The current study evaluated how characteristics of Hebrew, a Semitic language with an abjad writing system, are manifested in Hebrew-speaking preschoolers’ play with a computerized spelling game adapted for Hebrew. The game words were of different lengths and structures so as to include the entire Hebrew alphabet and all the vowels (a, e, i, o, u) in all possible positions in the word (first, last, second). We analyzed the 18,720 spellings typed by 96 preschoolers aged 5;7 years (on average) who played the game during eight sessions (about 20 minutes per session) in one month. The study indicated a greater difficulty in spelling א, ה, ו, י letters as consonants than as vowels, and more success in spelling ב, כ, פ letters that are pronounced as stops, as compared to the same letters that are pronounced as spirants. The success in spelling consonants and consonant-vowel letters was identical. Within a word, there was greater success in spelling the first letter, than in spelling the last letter, and the second letter. The length of the word did not influence success in spelling the first, second, or last letter in the word. At the same time, spelling an entire shorter word was easier than spelling an entire longer word. Lastly, spelling of words to which children had more exposures was easier than spelling words with only a single exposure. The discussion focuses on the implications of the study and refers to the nature of appropriate literacy-oriented digital Hebrew games and activities with preschoolers.

The letter of recommendation (LOR) plays a significant role in the application process for many professional positions, offering descriptive rather than quantitative information from a third party about an individual’s potential fit within the hiring organization. Such letters, however, increasingly appear online, emphasizing existing problems within the genre and creating others involving trust, reliability, and confidentiality. Typically, the response has been that such digitization of the LOR minimizes its significance or standardizes it. This article analyzes the digital LOR genre as an exemplar of epideictic rhetoric situated within a Perelmanian framework and demonstrates how the digital LOR operates rhetorically, enhancing the adherence between candidate, writer, audience, and institutional values and providing a means of evaluating candidate fit. The article also offers a rhetorical heuristic that captures how audiences can more fruitfully read the epideictic, digital LOR, thereby demonstrating how to optimize the digital platform’s benefits and still use the LOR to its best rhetorical advantage.

Complex visual–motor behaviors dominate human–environment interactions. Letter production, writing individual letters by hand, is an example of a complex visual–motor behavior composed of numerous behavioral components, including the required motor movements and the percepts that those motor movements create. By manipulating and isolating components of letter production, we provide experimental evidence that this complex visual–motor behavior is supported by a widespread neural system that is composed of smaller subsystems related to different sensorimotor components. Adult participants hand-printed letters with and without “ink” on an MR-safe digital writing tablet, perceived static and dynamic representations of their own handwritten letters, and perceived typeface letters during fMRI scanning. Our results can be summarized by three main findings: (1) Frontoparietal systems were associated with the motor component of letter production, whereas temporo-parietal systems were more associated with the visual component. (2) The more anterior regions of the left intraparietal sulcus were more associated with the motor component, whereas the more posterior regions were more associated with the visual component, with an area of visual–motor overlap in the posterior intraparietal sulcus. (3) The left posterior intraparietal sulcus and right fusiform gyrus responded similarly to both visual and motor components, and both regions also responded more during the perception of one's own handwritten letters compared with perceiving typed letters. These findings suggest that the neural systems recruited during complex visual–motor behaviors are composed of a set of interrelated sensorimotor subsystems that support the full behavior in different ways and, furthermore, that some of these subsystems can be rerecruited during passive perception in the absence of the full visual–motor behavior.

Variable typography allows designers and programmers to fully leverage the capabilities of Responsive Web Design by modifying or animating the typeface. This study was conducted to analyse and design a dynamic variable Sinhala typeface that changes letters to letters or word to word. The research goals included using an existing typeface to use in making the transitions; analysing an existing Sinhala typeface to map out the issues of using the existing typeface; overcoming the issues identified by introducing a grid to develop a new typeface; and testing the legibility of the newly developed typeface, to generate different letter-to-letter or word-to-word animations using the developed typeface. Letter-to-letter or word-to-word variable transitions can be implemented in a web and interactive designs to enhance the engagement of the users with the corresponding digital medium. This Sinhala variable typeface can be combined with a variety of factors such as user interactions, mouse interactions, facial gestures, sound, light etc. This study shows the possibilities to create and design functioning Sinhala responsive variable typefaces with a well-founded framework, and possibilities to adapt them in any compatible systems.

Digital image processing is a field that is being cultivated by many researchers at this time because it is interesting to apply to various activities, both analysis and production activities. One branch of the digital image is pattern recognition. This study uses Tesseract as a tool to recognize patterns from Hiragana letters. This study was conducted to find out how much Tesseract was able to recognize a Japanese text and handwritten text. This study uses 1 image as training data containing 74 Hiragana letters which are processed through training for each letter. This study has several testing criteria based on font size and resolution to find the best results in pattern recognition. This pattern recognition system is able to do data training and recognize 74 Hiragana letters using the Tesseract Engine. The system can also recognize images with the best success percentage of 98.24% with an image resolution of 200dpi (dots per inch) at size 18. This system can also recognize handwritten images with the best percentage of success of 90% with 200dpi image resolution.

In the copper, inscription contained writing strokes that have high historical value. Age and environmental factors cause damage to the inscription surface and also reduce the appearance of images and letters. One way to preserve it is to carry out the process of converting it into digital format. The use of the morphological operation method is very suitable to be used to improve the shape of the letters in the copper inscription. The morphological operations performed in this study were the Thinning Stentiford algorithm. Based on research that has been done, it was concluded that the Thinning Stentiford algorithm has succeeded in segmenting the letters that exist in the Kintamani copper inscription. However, there are some letters are not well segmented. This is due to the inscription background color and carved letter colors that don't have significant differences. Testing the time it was concluded that the greater the size of the image and the more letters will be segmented, the longer the processing computing.

<p>This research proposed automated hierarchical classification of scanned documents with characteristics content that have unstructured text and special patterns (specific and short strings) using convolutional neural network (CNN) and regular expression method (REM). The research data using digital correspondence documents with format PDF images from pusat data teknologi dan informasi (technology and information data center). The document hierarchy covers type of letter, type of manuscript letter, origin of letter and subject of letter. The research method consists of preprocessing, classification, and storage to database. Preprocessing covers extraction using Tesseract optical character recognition (OCR) and formation of word document vector with Word2Vec. Hierarchical classification uses CNN to classify 5 types of letters and regular expression to classify 4 types of manuscript letter, 15 origins of letter and 25 subjects of letter. The classified documents are stored in the Hive database in Hadoop big data architecture. The amount of data used is 5200 documents, consisting of 4000 for training, 1000 for testing and 200 for classification prediction documents. The trial result of 200 new documents is 188 documents correctly classified and 12 documents incorrectly classified. The accuracy of automated hierarchical classification is 94%. Next, the search of classified scanned documents based on content can be developed.</p>

The human ability to recognize a variety of objects, however complex the object, is the special ability that humans possess. Any normal human will have no difficulty in recognizing handwriting objects between an author and another author. With the rapid development of digital technology, the human ability to recognize handwriting objects has been applied in a program known as Computer Vision. This study aims to create identification system different types of handwriting capital letters that have different sizes, thickness, shape, and tilt (distinctive features in handwriting) using Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) and Euclidean Distance methods. LDA is used to obtain characteristic characteristics of the image and provide the distance between the classes becomes larger, while the distance between training data in one class becomes smaller, so that the introduction time of digital image of handwritten capital letter using Euclidean Distance becomes faster computation time (by searching closest distance between training data and data testing). The results of testing the sample data showed that the image resolution of 50x50 pixels is the exact image resolution used for data as much as 1560 handwritten capital letter data compared to image resolution 25x25 pixels and 40x40 pixels. While the test data and training data testing using the method of 10-fold cross validation where 1404 for training data and 156 for data testing showed identification of digital image handwriting capital letter has an average effectiveness of the accuracy rate of 75.39% with the average time computing of 0.4199 seconds.

Abstrak Tapis merupakan kain khas asal Lampung yang terbuat dari tenunan benang kapas berwarna emas dan perak. Sebagai produk budaya, tapis memiliki visualisasi yang khas. Berdasarkan observasi, pemanfaatan tapis yang memiliki representasi nilai dan nilai estetika tinggi masih terbatas pada media dan waktu tertentu. Hal ini tentu saja menimbulkan kekhawatiran tentang pelestarian dan pengembangan tapis karena keterbatasan pemanfaatannya. Contoh pemanfaatan tapis yang dapat dilakukan adalah upaya eksplorasi visual kedalam bentuk produk budaya lain yang lekat dengan keseharian masyarakat. Salah satu produk budaya yang dapat dirancang adalah huruf. Huruf merupakan media komunikasi tulisan yang sebenarnya telah lama ada dan berkembang. Di Indonesia, komunikasi tulisan mayoritas menggunakan huruf latin. Penggunaan huruf latin di Indonesia dapat dilihat mulai dari cara manual hingga sudah dilakukan secara digital. Huruf digital atau disebut dengan font saat ini banyak digunakan pada perangkat-perangkat digital/elektronik. Perkembangan desain font juga terus berkembang karena kebutuhan akan penyampaian pesan maupun kesan estetis pada suatu karya juga berkembang. Hal inilah yang kemudian menginspirasi lahirnya kemungkinan-kemungkinan bentuk visual baru font khususnya yang berbasis huruf Latin. Tapis, dengan kekayaan estetik pada visualnya dapat dijadikan sebagai inspirasi dalam menciptakan kemungkinan bentuk baru dari sebuah font yang berbasis pada bentuk huruf latin. Perpaduan visual antara tapis dan karakter huruf latin dapat menghasilkan karakteristik yang khas. As cultural products, Tapis have a typical visualization. Based on observations, the use of Tapis which has a value of representation and a high aesthetic value is still limited to the media and a certain time. This raises concerns about the preservation and development of the Tapis due to the limited utilization. Examples of the use of Tapis that can be done is a visual exploration efforts into other forms of cultural products attached to everyday people. A cultural product that can be designed is the letter. Letter is a medium of communication that has long been there and growing. In Indonesia, the majority of written communications using Latin letters. The use of the Latin alphabet in Indonesia can be seen from how the user until it is done digitally. Digital letter or called by the current font is widely used in digital devices / electronic. Font design development is also growing because of the need for the delivery of messages as well as the growth of aesthetic impression. The popularity of Korean culture today attracts many people to learn everything about Korea, especially in learning the Korean language. To learn Korean, you must first know Korean letters (Hangul), which are non-Latin characters. Therefore, a digital approach is needed to recognize handwritten Korean (Hangul) words easily. Handwritten character recognition has a vital role in pattern recognition and image processing for handwritten Character Recognition (HCR). The backpropagation method trains the network to balance the network's ability to recognize the patterns used during training and the network's ability to respond correctly to input patterns that are similar but not the same as the patterns used during training. This principle is used for character recognition of Korean characters (Hangul), a sub-topic in fairly complex pattern recognition. The results of the calculation of the backpropagation artificial neural network with MATLAB in this study have succeeded in identifying 576 image training data and 384 Korean letter testing data (Hangul) quite well and obtaining a percentage result of 80.83% with an accuracy rate of all data testing carried out on letters. Pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk membuat surat digital, mengarsip surat, dan mengirim surat dalam bentuk digital. Pelatihan diikuti oleh 17 perangkat Desa Mekarmukti, Cikarang Utara, Kabupaten Bekasi. Metode yang dipergunakan adalah perencanaan, pelaksanan, dan observasi. Waktu pelaksanaan pelatihan ini selama satu hari pada tanggal 28 Januari 2022. Selain itu, dipergunakan metode cooperative learning yang bertujuan agar peserta aktif. Evaluasi pelatihan adalah pelatihan sangat baik, dari sisi materi dan pembicara. Untuk program selanjutnya, dibuat tim untuk menularkan kepada perangkat desa setempat mengenai pembuatan surat digital. Correspondence is an inseparable part of the Village Apparatus. The use of digital mail should have been done to reduce paper use and speed up the process of letters reaching the recipient. This training aims to create digital letters, archive letters, and send letters in digital form. The training was attended by 17 officials from Mekarmukti Village, North Cikarang, Bekasi Regency. The method used is planning, implementation, and observation. Training implemented on one day, 28th January 2022. In addition, cooperative learning methods aim to make participants active. The training evaluation is a very good training, in terms of material and speakers. For the next program, a team was created to transmit to local village officials about making digital letters.

Cryptography is one of the most popular methods in data security by making data very difficult to read or even unreadable. One of the well-known techniques or algorithms in cryptography is Vigenere Cipher. This classic algorithm is classified as a polyalphabetic substitution cipher-based algorithm. Therefore, this algorithm tends to only handle data in text form. By this research, a console-based application has been developed which is made from PHP programming language to be able to encrypt and decrypt digital image media using Vigenere Cipher. The encryption process is done by first converting a digital image into a base64 encoding format so that the encryption process can be carried out using the tabula recta containing the radix-64 letter arrangement used for base64 encoding. Conversely, the decryption process is carried out by restoring the encrypted file using radix-64 letters, so we get the image file in the base64 encoding format. Then, the image with the base64 encoding format is decoded into the original file. The encryption process took less than 0,2 seconds and 0.19 seconds for the decryption process and 33.34% for average file size addition on the encrypted file from the original file size. Testing on ten different images with different sizes and dimensions showed a 100% success rate which means this research was successfully carried out.

In Japan, loanwords widely used in newspapers that make it difficult for readers to understand the information. As there is a need for a practical language, it has been proven by the more dominant use of abbreviations. In newspapers, abbreviations in loanwords are most commonly found in the field of automotive technology, but the use of abbreviations in newspaper must be taken into consideration, as it may be difficult to deliver the information. This study was arranged with the aim to find out, describe and analyse the formation of loanwords in ryakugoand toujigoform in the Asahi Shimbun Digitalwebsite. It is intended for Japanese learners to have a basic knowledge of the formation structure of the Japanese loanwords and to know the abbreviations and meanings of the automotive and technology fields term. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative analysis. The results of this study were obtained 79 data of ryakugoand toujigo, which in the formation of ryakugo were jouryaku, geryaku, and jougeryaku. While the formation of toujigo were keeping the first letter written with alphabet, keeping the first letter written with alpha-numeric, keeping the front–middle- in the first word and keeping two letters in the first word.

Not only that, good and correct language can help the message we want to convey so that it can be accepted by the community. If you have ever had difficullty capturing the message coveyed in a letter, it is because of an error in using language. Whether the message conveyed in a letter is accepted or not can be seen from the use of good and correct language. The Purpose of this activity is to provide solutions in providing counseling in making good and correct letter.</em> <em>The scope of this outreach and community service program, it will focus on the (Ruku Tetangga (RT) Management. RT is second social sphere after family in creating good and correct use of Indonesian, especially in conveying an important message to the community. RT administrators are given prior views on the development of speaking and the use of good and correct language, especialy in writing outgoing letters. They are given an illustration of how the influence of using good and correct language in society and the environment. Furthermore, the instructor will provide materials related to how to make the correct outgoing letter.</em> <em>The results obtained from this activity are that there are several language errors so that the RT management can correct errors in writing letters.</em></p><p><strong><em> </em></strong></p><p><strong>Abstrak.</strong> Kemajuan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi saat ini begitu berkembang pesat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatkan hasil belajar dalam kemampuan menulis huruf kanji sesuai dengan urutan penulisan huruf yang tepat, dan (2) mengetahui respon pembelajar terhadap penggunaan kamus digital Akebi dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis huruf kanji sesuai dengan urutan penulisan huruf yang tepat. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah 28 pembelajar kelas XI Lintas Minat II SMA Negeri 4 Malang. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini berupa tes dan angket. Kamus digital Akebi sebagai panduan untuk menulis huruf kanji dasar menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pada hasil belajar dari pretest ke postest dengan rata-rata nilai posttest adalah 74,8. Tanggapan yang diberikan oleh pembelajar terkait penggunaan kamus digital Akebi sebagai panduan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis kanji berada pada kriteria tinggi.
The implementation of language teaching in this era has taken advantage of technological advances. However. the use of technology for education is only done by a few students. This study aims to determine the improvement of learning outcomes in the ability to write kanji in accordance with the proper letter writing sequence, and (2) determine the learner's response to the use of the Akebi digital dictionary in improving the ability to write kanji letters according to the proper letter writing sequence. The method used in this study is a quantitative method with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design research design. The sample used in this study was 28 students of Class XI Cross-Interest II of SMA Negeri 4 Malang. Data collection techniques in this study in the form of tests and questionnaires. Akebi's digital dictionary as a guide for writing basic kanji shows an increase in learning outcomes from pretest to posttest with an average posttest score of 74.8. The response given by the learners regarding the use of the Akebi digital dictionary as a guide to improve the ability to write kanji is at high criteria.

The article examines the role of “digital practices” in the formation of interdisciplinary humanitarian knowledge, the peculiarities of the development of digital humanitarian projects in the field of philology. The model of development of a digital project in the field of preparation of semantic markup of literary publications “Chekhov Digital”, which is a digital publication of the academic Сomplete works and letters of A. Chekhov, is considered. The goal of the project is to develop machine-readable (semantic) markup of the writer’s texts based on the standards of digital publication Text Encoding Initiative (TEI). Within the framework of the project, standards for the preparation of digital Russian-language publications are being clarified, conceptual and technical conditions for implementation are being formulated, and infrastructure and new research methods are being developed. The structure of machine-readable annotation of documents has been developed, which enables marking up semantic entities in Chekhov’s texts, notes and comments for building semantic search within the corpus of the writer’s texts. To clarify the markup of semantic entities in the works of A. Chekhov the methods of automatic text processing were used, including topic modeling and vector semantic models to analyze the most important author’s concepts in the texts; corpus methods for studying the contexts of the use of verbal representations of concepts. The conceptual analysis made it possible to reconstruct the author’s concepts in the context of the markup of semantic entities. To mark up the names of real people and objects, a special database, based on pointers to letters, has been created. The project implements the principle of Open data, one of the goals of which is to create scientific communities around data. The work on the project has led to the development of scientific cooperation between the Centers for Digital Humanities of the HSE and the SFedU.

The result of this research is a website-based mail filing system on CV. Ziefa Karya which has various uses such as data collection of incoming and outgoing letters, details of incoming and outgoing letters, classification of types of letters, disposition of incoming letters, reports of incoming and outgoing letters, and printing of reports of incoming and outgoing letters, as well as printing disposition sheets. Proposed work promotes a unique data security protocol for validating candidate’s service appointment. Process initiated with concealment of private share within the first segment of each region of the e-letter at commission’s server. This is governed by hash operations determining circular orientation of private share fragments and their hosted matrix intervals. Signed e-letter downloaded at the posted place is validated through same hash operations and public share. Candidate’s on spot taken fingerprint are concealed in two segments for each region of the eletter adopting similar hiding strategies. The copyright signature of posting place is similarly shielded on fourth segment of each region using hash operations. The certified e-letter is thoroughly validated at commission’s server and signatures stored justify authenticity of appointment and proper candidature at the posting place. The superior test results from wider angles establishes the efficacy of the proposed protocol over the existing approaches.

The job recruitment process takes a lot of process and number of documents. It is very well known for applicants to exaggerated and falsify their work history data. It may put a company at legal risk and significant commercial losses. Generally, company use third-party to verify applicant’s work history data which is time-consuming and costly. It also makes companies relies on third-party which may not trustworthy and cause several other risks. Generally, experience letters is used as a proof of work history documents of employee. However, the process of publishing an experience letter may contain conflict of interest between company and employee. Yet, publishing an experience letter is not mandatory in several places. In this research, we propose a system to verify applicant’s work history data by using performance appraisal as proof of work history and utilizing Blockchain to provide secure system, tampered-proof and real-time verification. The proposed approach also minimizes trust issues and privacy of data sharing by adding encryption and digital signature schema using Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) algorithm. Furthermore, we have implemented a prototype to demonstrate how the proposed system work using a Quorum-based consortium blockchain.
