PAGLIARULO, CARLA. "I. Giordani, uomo di lettere e di cultura, e l'ideale di un «cristianesimo integrale»: alcuni carteggi indediti." Doctoral thesis, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/10280/1795.
Full textThis dissertation aims at setting Igino Giordani within the broader framework of the catholic cultural environment between the two world wars. It focuses on his proposal of an «integral Christianity» as a solution to the recession which threatened the fundamental values and principles of the economy, politics and culture during the 1920's and 1930's. This is the reason why the relationships between Giordani and many of his colleagues and cultural catholic institutions have been studied in depth. The work starts with a biography, underlining how Giordani's youth has been affected by the war and the experience as a soldier, up to his peaceful death, in 1980. His life shows how the consistency of his actions with his faith made him an influent personality in his working environments, to the point that the beatification process has begun. The research is based on Giordani's writings and on the previous historiography, but the most important source is constituted by a large number of archive documents. Particularly, Giordani's private correspondence has been very useful in understanding how he acted in order to support the engagement of the catholic intellectuals during the dark fascist age and his endless activity in order to build a new humanism. The work also focuses on the relationships between Giordani and two members of the Italian catholic world of the time: Giovanni Papini and Piero Bargellini.

Full textJulienne Gauvain, alias Juliette Drouet, is mainly well-known for her fifty-year relationship with Victor Hugo. But first and foremost, she was a lavish letter writer who wrote more than 22,000 letters to her dear poet – calling them her ‘restitus’- from 1833 until she died in 1883. They were safely kept by her lover, who entrusted them to Louis Koch – Juliette Drouet’s nephew – after she died. Today, they are gradually published online so as to provide the general public, as well as researchers, with this complete astounding correspondence. The critical and scientific edition – including transcriptions, scholar and manuscript-related annotations, explanatory notes, index, glossary – of 568 letters dating from 1841 (8th anniversary of the couple’s love story) highlights their biographical, documentary and literary interests. Indeed these ‘restitus’ allow a day-to-day study of the life of Juliette Drouet, who had just withdrawn from theatrical and public life in order to fully devote herself to her love, and of Victor Hugo who, freshly elected to the Académie française on January 7th and in the process of writing Le Rhin, had to face literary and family trials, started taking his first notes on the present times and was supervising the revivals of Hernani, Ruy Blas and Angelo, tyran de Padoue. These letters also account for an accurate testimony on the status of women, the sentimental ties, the customs and all sorts of small details of the 19th century daily life. As well, they supply precious information concerning the historical, political, medical, scientific, social and artistic context of the July Monarchy and the reign of Louis-Philippe. Finally, apart from its own stylistic and literary value, this true mass of text arouses a generic reflection given its hybrid status of epistolary diary

Full textThis essay aims at editing 49 (forty nine) unpublished personal, political, economical and everyday letters handwritten in paper by the Brazilian Emperor, Dom Pedro II (1825-1891), and sent to his sister Januária (1822-1901) between the years 1860 and 1864. This publication has also paleographic, codicological and historical notes provided by the reading and searching of the reported events in the corpus using as the basis of study writers like Cambraia (2005), in a philological view, Barman (1999) e Schwarcz (2004), in a historical aspect, et al. Regarding the study proposed by Spina (1977), which demonstrates the transcendent function of philology and the use of the handwritten document as an object and a critical method, this essay not only proves that the corpus was handwritten by Dom Pedro II, but also searches for the facts and the described contexts in the letters as the source of future and linguistics analyse and also the basis of the historical study of Brazilian Empire. It is possible to identify specific details related to Brazil Empire at the beginning of the second half of the nineteenth century with the presented results in this essay.

Hu Shih (1891-1962), ‘the Father of the Chinese Renaissance’, played a remarkable role in every crucial aspect in twentieth-century China. Hu was a fully documented writer of all time and a prodigious correspondent. Among Hu’s contacts, Edith Clifford Williams, an American avant-garde artist, was his most special friend. She was the one that inspired Hu in many ways when he studied in the United States. This study examines and analyzes 172 letters written by Hu to Williams, which portrayed the unconventional friendship between them and carried a profound spiritual love that went on for almost half a century. The motivation of Hu to keep such a long-term corresponding is because all along Williams was a perfect confidant for Hu, in which Hu found only she was the right companion who matched his need – intellectually and emotionally. Hu expressed diverse emotions in the letters. The most unique ones are those ‘desire’ related. Analyzing desire discourses tells us the features of affection expressing in each period and Hu’s mindset had shifted in their relationship across stages. Discussing through discourses, these desires indicate transitional differences and the common point, also on the basis and process of how they lifted their affection to greatness; how their amour to each other sublimated into a perpetual friendship with Williams’ truthful devotion to Hu Shih.

B. Teksty: edycja dwudziestu pięciu listów wykonana wedle standardów papirologicznych; staranna transkrypcja; komentarz do poszczególnych linii tekstu (analiza formy i treści dokumentów): gramatyka, fonetyka, zjawiska strukturalne, dane prosopograficzne, analiza społeczno-historyczna, paleograficzne porównania z innymi tekstami. Aneksy zawierają także listę tzw. nomina sacra, czyli skrótów o szczególnej formie stosowanych do zapisu imion, nazw własnych i terminów ściśle powiązanych z religią chrześcijańską.
Santos, Maria Teresa Negrão Ogando dos. "Essência ou marginalidade da carta na narrativa fílmica de Manoel de Oliveira." Master's thesis, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/10400.2/7526.
Full textThe purpose of this project is to emphasize the importance of the letter in the cinematographic work of director Manoel de Oliveira (1908-2015) by analysing of a corpus of five of his films, particularly significant from the epistolary point of view. We will compare the different types of letters present in those films, and determine the degree of its influence in the space-time of the film narrative. After summoning the discursive characteristics of the epistolary text, and assuming this is a text that, after being withdrawn from its sealed envelope, is expected to be unveiled, we will determine how the letter, when read within the film narrative, implies the disclosure of its secrecy to third parties. Adopting a comparative approach, we will make evident the transcoding processes of the letter into the film narrative, presupposing its relational dimension. Approaching the privileged and concealed themes as well as the several epistolary typologies present, we will focus on a paradox of the epistolary genre: on the one hand, it constitutes a private act between two poles, sender and receiver; on the other hand, in the context of the film narrative, private letters are made public, insofar as they are also revealed to the audience.
