Abstract:
This chapter prepares for the proof by introducing a method concerning the general rate of convergence of mollifiers. The lemma takes into account the multi-index, the moment vanishing conditions, and smooth functions. An explanation for reducing the number of minus signs appearing in the proof is offered. The case N = 2 of the above lemma suffices for the proof of the main theorem. The chapter considers another way to work out the details relating to the lemma, which will be repeatedly used in the remainder of the proof. In particular, it describes functions whose integrals are not normalized to 1, but which satisfy the same type of estimates as ∈subscript Element.

Gustafson, Karl. Operator Geometry in Statistics. Edited by Frédéric Ferraty and Yves Romain. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oxfordhb/9780199568444.013.13.

Abstract:
This article discusses the essentials of operator trigonometry developed by the author as it applies to statistics, with emphasis on key elements such as operator antieigenvalues, operator antieigenvectors, and operator turning angles. Operator trigonometry started out infinite dimensional, and remains infinite dimensional, even for Banach spaces. Thus, it is in principle applicable not only to infinite-dimensional statistics but also to cases involving functional data. The article first considers how operator trigonometry gives new geometrical meaning to statistical efficiency before formalizing it in a more deductive manner. It then explains the essentials of operator trigonometry and summarizes the ensuing developments. It also describes two lemmas that are implicit and essential to operator trigonometry, Antieigenvector Reconstruction Lemma and General Two-Component Lemma, and how operator trigonometry provides new geometry to statistics matrix inequalities and canonical correlations. Finally, it presents new results applying operator trigonometry to prediction theory and to association measures.

Full text
Abstract:
This chapter discusses certain cleverly constructed unions of modular varieties, called Shimura varieties, in the Hodge-theoretic perspective. The Shimura varieties can show the minimal (i.e., reflex) field of definition of a Hodge/zero locus setting, and also reveal quite a bit about the interplay between “upstairs” and “downstairs” (in Ď and Γ‎\D, respectively) fields of definition of subvarieties. Hence, the chapter defines the Hermitian symmetric domains in D as well as the locally symmetric varieties Γ‎\D. It then discusses the theory of complex multiplication, before introducing Shimura varieties ∐ᵢ(Γ‎ᵢ\D) as well as three key Adélic lemmas, before finally laying out the fields of definition.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the simplifications occurring in the proof of the main theorem in the smooth case. It begins by stating the theorem about the existence of an F-definable homotopy h : I × unit vector X → unit vector X and the properties for h. It then presents the proof, which depends on two lemmas. The first recaps the proof of Theorem 11.1.1, but on a Zariski dense open set V₀ only. The second uses smoothness to enable a stronger form of inflation, serving to move into V₀. The chapter also considers the birational character of the definable homotopy type in Remark 12.2.4 concerning a birational invariant.

Abstract:
This chapter investigates the consequences of the assumption that one Moufang set is weakly isomorphic to another. It first introduces some well-known facts about involutions which are assembled in a few lemmas, including those dealing with an involutory set, a biquaternion division algebra, and a quaternion division algebra with a standard involution. It then presents a notation for a non-trivial anisotropic quadratic space and another for an involutory set are presented, along with assumptions for a pointed anisotropic quadratic space and the standard involution of a quaternion. It also makes a number of propositions regarding the standard involution of a quaternion and a biquaternion. Results about weak isomorphisms between Moufang sets arising from involutory sets are given.
