Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to examine the leisure patterns of nonresident fathers while spending time with their child(ren), and to examine leisure constraints, leisure facilitators and nonresident fathers' satisfaction with family leisure activities. Four instruments were used to collect the data. Family leisure involvement was measured using the Family Leisure Activity Profile (FLAP), leisure constraints were measured using the Nonresident Father Leisure Constraint Scale (NFLCS), leisure facilitators were measured using the Nonresident Fathers' Leisure Facilitator Scale (NFLFS), and family leisure satisfaction was measured using the Family Leisure Satisfaction Scale (FLSS). The sample was nonresident fathers (n=129) from 36 states in the U.S. The data supported leisure constraints as a significant predictor of nonresident fathers' satisfaction with family leisure involvement, and their family leisure patterns. The data did not support, however, leisure facilitators as contributing to fathers' satisfaction with family leisure involvement or leisure patterns.

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the current status and correlations among leisure style, leisure involvement, and anxiety of college athletes. The research instruments study was revised and it included “Athlete Leisure Style Scale,” “Leisure Involvement Scale,” and “Three-Factor Anxiety Scale (Cheng, Hardy & Markland. 2011),” which had high reliability and validity after confirmatory factor analysis and internal consistency analysis. The study used purposive sampling and collected 357 valid questionnaires on collegiate athletes. The findings were as follow: 1. 70 percent of the college athletes were male. The average age was 23.6, while the highest sports seniority is 6 to 10 years. The highest training frequency was more than five times per week, while the highest competition level and best the record were at the national level. 2. The major leisure type involvement was “social and indoor entertainment type,” showing most of the athletes chose to listen to the music, chat, and gathered with friends to relax. For the background variables, female athletes had higher involvement in social and indoor entertainment type and hobby type.Athletes of individual sports, training frequency over five times per week, and skills perceived high skills had higher scores in sports type. 3. College Athletes had the highest sense of enjoyment in leisure involvement, which might be more helpful when athletes participated in training or competitions. Athletes with more than 5 times training per week were the highest at living type centrality and importance and self-performance; national-wide competition winners were the highest at enjoyment and self-performance; self-assessment high achievers were vii highest at living type centrality and importance. 4. Life expectancies have been steadily rising for both men and women in Taiwan. This has created a demographic shift toward a so-called “aging society,” in other words, a society with an older population of citizens and consumers. Seniors – once largely ignored outside of the family – are now taking on a new importance in the public sphere in places such as industry, government, and education. As one might expect, seniors are now becoming an object of study, so that more can be learned about their habits, their needs, and their quality of life. This particular study focuses on an important aspect of senior life, namely the question of leisure. The study proposes two variables that might possibly affect seniors in this regard: leisure constraints (whether physical, economic, or otherwise) and leisure involvement (that is, the willingness of the individual to take the initiative with leisure activity). We have designed a questionnaire to determine whether quality of life is affected more (or less) by leisure constraints or leisure involvement. The survey sampling population was limited to seniors over the age of 65 in Taipei. Through this questionnaire and its analysis, we hope to provide research that can be useful in the planning and establishing the practices of leisure activities for seniors. This study collects data from the survey (in the form of questionnaires) and then analyzes, summarizes and interprets the data. It concludes that leisure constraints, and not leisure involvement, is the key factor in determining quality of life for seniors. Therefore, the key factor is not such the willingness of the individual to engage in leisure activities, but rather the structural constraints that the individual faces – economic, physical, organizational, logistical. The study also showed a few interesting side points, namely that marital status was not a determinative factor in leisure, and that higher education was correlated with a greater concern for leisure and pleasure. The study suggests that minimizing the structural constraints that stand in the way of leisure will help seniors to enhance their pleasure values of leisure involvement. And this should be encouraged, because by participating in leisure activities, seniors will relieve the mental and physical stress, as well as enhance their quality of life in old age. Suggested that future research can be added to the dimensions of social support, social patterns, and study more breadth approach perfect.

Photographing leisure recreation is a new way to have a trip in Taiwan. However, we are short of the researches related to it. Therefore, in this study, we can know more about the cause-and-effect relations among the extent of the photographing leisure involvement, the experience one might actually have, and the leisure satisfaction after the experience with the mode made of these three parts-- leisure involvements, leisure experiences, and leisure satisfaction. This study was carried out with questionnaire survey, based on the tourists actually having photographing as leisure recreation in Taiwan. Samples were collected at the hot scenic spots for photographing where the collection and the investigation of the samples can be carried out. 495 questionnaires were given to the very tourists and 431 valid questionnaires were turned in. In terms of the goal of the study and the necessity of clarifying the assumption, the analysis of the data went through with the descriptive statistics and the mode of structural programming. The result is as the following: 1.The leisure involvement of photographing recreation has obvious influence on the leisure experience. 2.The leisure experience of photographing recreation has obvious influence on the leisure satisfaction. 3.The leisure involvement of photographing recreation doesn’t have obvious influence on the leisure satisfaction. Key words:photographing as leisure recreation, leisure involvement, leisure experience, leisure satisfaction

This purpose of study is to propose and test the relationships of serious leisure, leisure involvement, and leisure satisfaction among participants of tennis activity. First of all, after using a literature review method to establish the empirical models and hypotheses, the study employs the empirical methodology to conduct the questionnaire investigation. Next, we conducted face-to-face interviews with tennis players who used to participate in tennis activity around Taipei and New Taipei city. A convenience sample of tennis players was chosen. Data were collected from March 2 to April 30, 2012. The procedure resulted in interviewing 300 tennis players. Eight invalid questionnaires were excluded resulting in 292 usable responses. Finally, Amos and SPSS statistical software were used for confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. All hypotheses were tested using regression equations. Our results show that serious leisure had significant positive impacts on leisure involvement and leisure satisfaction. This study shows that leisure involvement had a significant positive impact on leisure satisfaction and is also a mediator of the relationship between serious leisure and leisure satisfaction. That is, serious leisure not only had a direct positive effect on leisure satisfaction, but also had an indirect positive effect on leisure satisfaction through leisure involvement. Finally, this research confirms the theoretical framework for causal relationships between serious leisure, leisure satisfaction and leisure involvement. The results are suggested to be useful references for individuals and the managerial sector while setting up their leisure managerial strategies.

The purpose of this study was to explore the relations among guitar participators’ leisure involvement and leisure experience for leisure satisfaction. This study is based on guitar participators in Taipei City, with 350 questionnaires sent out and 339 recollected, in which there are 330 valid ones, 97% effectiveness of the questionaire survey. The questionnaire uses “Leisure Involvement Scale,” “Leisure Experience Scale,” and “Leisure Satisfaction Scale” as the research tool and the data were processed with spss 18.0. The research results are as the following. The leisure involvement of guitar participators derives from the following thre factors: pleasure value, self- performance, and sense of being egocentric. Among the three factors, “pleasure value” scored highest. The recreational experience is as the following: emotional connection, action connection, and thinking, with emotional connection scoring highest. The satisfaction of guitar participators relates to elements of relaxation, mind, physical fitness, and facilities, while relaxation scores highest. 1.Guitar participators’ leisure involvemnet and leisure experience validly explains leisure satisfaction with relaxation. 2.Guitar participators’ leisure involvemnet and leisure experience validly explains leisure satisfaction with mind. 3.Guitar participators’ leisure involvemnet and leisure experience validly explains leisure satisfaction with physical fitness. 4.Guitar participators’ leisure involvemnet and leisure experience validly explains leisure satisfaction with facilities. In the research results, we find participators’ leisure involvement validly influences leisure satisfaction. Therefore, the study suggests to promote guitar as a recreational means to gain pleasure, physical and mental relaxation, and pleasant life.

Motivation: Picnicking has gained ongoing popularity and has become one of the most important leisure activities in Taiwan in recent years. While most past studies emphasized only the forest damage caused by picnicking and picnicking areas and were associated with forest studies; and picnicking in national parks was considered as part of tourism and leisure activities different from picnicking in parks, literature relating to public picnicking facilities was less. In addition, as there were fewer studies on leisure activities investigating the correlations between nature and leisure, this study investigated the effects of different environmental perceptions on the motivation, involvement and benefits of leisure in terms of picnicking. While some studies note that subjective environmental perceptions can better reflect the true feelings for the environment of respondents and the leisure variables represent the prior and post responses to leisure, that is, the inner thoughts of respondents, this study measured the on-site environmental perception in nature by subjective measurement. Methodology: With picnickers picnicking in Taipei City parks as respondents, this study distributed questionnaires in three major picnicking fields each with area above 20 hectares: Daan Forest Park, Expo Park, and Dajia Riverside Park. A total of 408 responses were recovered from respondents aged between 20 and 35, including 154 responses from male respondents and 254 responses from female respondents. Then, we verified the research hypotheses with factor analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM) and compared the model difference between different picnicking partners: family and friends. After summarizing data, we further conducted the multiple group analysis between urban parks and riverside parks. Results: Models for environmental perception and leisure variables were constructed to confirm their interrelationships and discern the mediating effect of leisure involvement between environmental perception and leisure benefits and the mediating effects of leisure motivation between environmental perception and leisure benefits. In multiple group analysis, this study found that there is no significant difference between urban parks and riverside parks, there is significant difference between the family and friend groups in the environmentalleisure involvement path, and the path coefficient of family accompaniment is greater than that of friend accompaniment, suggesting that picnickers accompanied by family perceive naturalness stronger and more sensitively than picnickers accompanied by friends, and the effect of perceived naturalness is stronger on their leisure involvement. Compared to other similar studies in the leisure area, this study verified the correlation between environmental perception and picnicking by adding environmental perception as a factor. Apart from inspiring future studies, these empirical results can provide a reference for picnic planners, urban park planners and the making of related policies and promotion of leisure benefits.

Seniors who go swimming in sports centers in Taipei City were the study subjects. Questionnaire investigation was adopted, and convenient sampling was used for investigation; 404 copies of questionnaires were distributed and 395 copies of questionnaires were valid, so the effective received rate was 97%. The data analytical methods that this study used included descriptive statistical analysis, factor analysis, independent-sample t test, one way ANOVA, and stepwise multiple regression, and the study result and conclusions were as follows: 1. The regression analysis showed significant correlation between senior swimmers’ leisure involvement and leisure benefits, and the result of regression analysis indicated that this regression model had reached significant level, showing that centralization provided higher anticipation towards leisure benefits. When senior swimmers go to swim, such psychological states as feeling more excited, involved, important, happy, interested, and fond of would allow the senior swimmers to obtain higher leisure benefits. Therefore, the higher the leisure involvement, the higher the leisure benefits would be. 2. There were 278 female senior swimmers, which accounted for 70.4% (the majority) of total study subjects; 164 study subjects (41.5%) are 70 to 74 years old; 46 study subjects (11.6%) live in Daan District and 46 study subjects (11.6%) live in Nangang District; 316 study subjects (80%) are married; 196 study subjects (49.6%) graduated from junior high schools or below; 123 study subjects (31.1%) go swimming for less than one year; 75 study subjects (19%) go swimming thrice a week. 3. The leisure involvement of different demographic variables showed significant difference, the longer the participation years and the more the participation, the higher recognition the leisure involvement would be. 4. The overall average score of “attractiveness” was the highest, the importance, happiness, interest, likeness, and relaxation of swimming for seniors were recognized by the senior swimmers the most. The overall average score of “physiological benefit” was the highest, swimming could improve senior swimmers’ cardiorespiratory endurance, eliminate tiredness, make the senior swimmers feel energetic, build up their strength, and keep them healthy. The overall average score of “structural constraint” was the highest, crowd swimming pool, transportation, facilities, attendant’s attitude, and charge would influence the participation of senior swimmers. 5. Swimming could improve physiological benefit, psychological benefit, and make friends so as to promote leisure benefit. Relevant governmental organs should promote swimming in sports centers with great exertion for seniors who live in Taipei City, which was contributive to seniors’ health.

The main objectives of this research are to discuss the leisure effects upon the users of motor boat in Taiwan. The discussions emphasize on the developments of leisure involvement in exploring the leisure constraints and benefits from the users and business holders of the motor boat. Explored by both qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys, the research identifies several major concerns of the development of motor boat in Taiwan’s leisure and recreational field. After conducting 450 research questionnaires with the motor boat users, the research results indicate that most factors of leisure constraints such as governmental regulations, motor boat infrastructures, and motor boat operating information are directly related to leisure involvements. Interviews with motor boat business holders provide valuable suggestions for this research. The recommendations are chiefly dedicated to the socio-governmental management and to the individual perspectives of leisure benefits. Eventually, this research underpins important views and thoughts for the growth and advancement of the motor boat activity. Thus, it delivers not only the identification of leisure benefits, it offers but also an in-depth investigation for examining the relationships between leisure constraints and leisure involvement, in particular for the business of motor boat in Taiwan. For the research results, according to both qualitative and quantative analyses, the researcher find that the motor boat can: 1. enhance users’ recognition of leisure benefits among physical, psychological, and educational categories; 2. decline users’ preference by inconvient external factors for activity participation; and 3. advance users’ motivation by demonstrating his/her social identiy.
