Abstract:
Background. Physical and leisure activities are proven health promotion modalities and have not been examined in older wheelchair users.Main Objectives. Examine physical and leisure activity in older wheelchair users and explore associations between wheelchair use and participation in physical and leisure activity, and wheelchair use, physical and leisure activity, and perceived health.Methods. 8301 Canadians ≥60 years of age were selected from the Canadian Community Health Survey. Sociodemographic, health-related, mobility-related, and physical and leisure activity variables were analysed using logistic regression to determine, the likelihood of participation in physical and leisure activity, and whether participation in physical and leisure activities mediates the relationship between wheelchair use and perceived health.Results. 8.3% and 41.3% older wheelchair users were physically and leisurely active. Wheelchair use was a risk factor for reduced participation in physical (OR=44.71) and leisure activity (OR=10.83). Wheelchair use was a risk factor for poor perceived health (OR=10.56) and physical and leisure activity negatively mediated the relationship between wheelchair user and perceived health.Conclusion. There is a need for the development of suitable physical and leisure activity interventions for older wheelchair users. Participation in such interventions may have associations with health benefits.

Abstract:
Abstract. Individual differences in interests and related engagement are often hypothesized to be mere expressions of core personality differences in specific contexts, such as occupation and leisur. However, previous research has found only moderate correlations between personality traits and operationalizations of interests. Moreover, interests showed comparable or even higher stability than personality traits. In the current study, we examined the correlations between different measures of Big Five personality traits and leisure interests as well as engagement in various leisure activities based on a sample of 407 individuals (132 males and 275 females). Furthermore, we compared rank-order and profile stability estimates, and analyzed the directionality of effects between the variables across two measurement occasions. Even though we found some systematic correlations between personality traits and leisure interests/engagement, most of them were small or only moderate. Estimates of profile stability tended to be larger for interests and engagements, whereas rank-order stability tended to be larger for Big Five traits. Moreover, we found bidirectional associations between personality traits and leisure interests/engagement. Thus, the results of our study provide strong support for a conceptualization of leisure interests as systematically linked with personality traits, but reflecting dispositions to behavior that are sufficiently distinct from personality traits.

Kim, KyungHee. "Work and leisure and leisure policy in Korea." Thesis, University of Liverpool, 2011. http://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.569217.

Abstract:
Korea tends to be regarded as a country which has relatively long working hours. At this point in time, the 40 hour workweek, introduced in 2005, seems to be having a remarkable impact on both the society and each individual. Many people expected increased leisure time alongside reduced working time, but has the Korean worker's working time decreased as expected? This thesis explains how and why reduced working time has brought about increased concern about leisure and expenditure on leisure products. The research examines the connections between workers' leisure and companies' welfare systems. These issues surrounding Korean workers are situated within three larger research questions as follows. First, what are the distinctive characteristic of Korean workers and the Korean labour market? Second, what concept of leisure policy is relevant in Korea and what is the potential of industrial recreation as a leisure policy? Third, what are actual demands of Korean workers for leisure, and what are the relationships between their demands for leisure and their work situations? This thesis proceeds with a comparative historical analysis followed by the results of new empirical research. The empirical research was carried out in 11 large companies in and around Seoul. A total of 144 questionnaires were completed by employees, and there were lOin-depth follow-up interviews. The main findings are as follows. First, the process of industrialisation in Korea has been very different to that experienced in Britain. Second, the majority of the working class in Korea are not manual workers. Third, leisure in Korea is deeply associated with consuming leisure goods and services. Fourth, state leisure policy has been part of economic policy rather than social policy. Fifth, Korean society remains highly influenced by Confucianism. Sixth, the role of trade unions in implementing legal rights to reduced working time has been insufficient.

Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to examine the leisure patterns of nonresident fathers while spending time with their child(ren), and to examine leisure constraints, leisure facilitators and nonresident fathers' satisfaction with family leisure activities. Four instruments were used to collect the data. Family leisure involvement was measured using the Family Leisure Activity Profile (FLAP), leisure constraints were measured using the Nonresident Father Leisure Constraint Scale (NFLCS), leisure facilitators were measured using the Nonresident Fathers' Leisure Facilitator Scale (NFLFS), and family leisure satisfaction was measured using the Family Leisure Satisfaction Scale (FLSS). The sample was nonresident fathers (n=129) from 36 states in the U.S. The data supported leisure constraints as a significant predictor of nonresident fathers' satisfaction with family leisure involvement, and their family leisure patterns. The data did not support, however, leisure facilitators as contributing to fathers' satisfaction with family leisure involvement or leisure patterns.

Abstract:
The purpose of the present study is to identify the factors that prevent or restrict the consumption of children`s leisure activities. In order to achieve the proposed objectives the Constraints to Leisure model developed by Crawford, Jackson and Godbey (1991) was used. To better understand how the Children s leisure decisions are taken and to identify its associated constraints mothers of several generations were chosen as subjects to participate in the field research. This kind of approach was selected as way a to identify different attitudes concerning the topic among the target. The data was collected through qualitative research methodology, using as tools focus groups and in-depth interviews. The results demonstrated that the constraints identified did not represent an issue for the mothers while engaging in leisure activities with their children. The intrapersonal barriers haven`t shown any relevance for the target. However, all mothers interviewed, regardless of their age, pointed out various interpersonal and structural barriers that can have a direct impact in their day-today lives, concerning both family and social aspects. The findings achieved in this study are relevant to help companies in the entertainment industry to build more accurate and efficient marketing strategies and also to help the government by providing information that could support decisions concerning investments and financing projects related to the kids entertainment.

Abstract:
In this paper, we investigate the importance of various aspects of life—that is, the value of family, leisure, work, and friends distinguished by age and parenthood. Our data is from the European Values Study and World Values Survey, capturing 46 countries in Europe, East Asia, Latin America and Australia. We focus on persons in young and middle adulthood and examine the perceived importance of the four life domains Tin 2005–2009 and 2017–2019 and the changes over the roughly 10-year period. Our results show that family is most often regarded as important, followed by work, friends, and leisure. This hiearchary remained the same during the last decade. The descriptive results show an increase in the importance of family, friends, and leisure, with significant regional differences. Regionally, Southern Europe and East Asia have the most significant changes in values over the 10-year period. Differentiations by age and parity reveal that the associations of age and parity are weaker in 2017–2019 than in 2005–2009.
