Le posizioni elaborate nel corso dei secoli in campo giuridico nel mondo islamico sulla liceità e i limiti dell’interruzione di gravidanza sono molto complesse e hanno come riferimento le fonti canoniche della Sharia (la Legge islamica) e , qualora queste non rispondano in maniera esaustiva su un determinato tema, i riferimenti principali sono i dottori della Legge islamica i quali offrono dei responsi giuridici che non sono strettamente vincolanti per i richiedenti. Storicamente le riflessioni giuridiche sull’interruzione volontaria di gravidanza ruotano attorno a te “pilastri” fondamentali: l’infusione dell’anima che, in base al Corano, viene trasmessa al 120°giorno dalla fecondazione, il fatto che il diritto classico puniva penalmente il procurato aborto, l’approvazione della tradizione giuridica dell’aborto terapeutico in quanto tutelava in primo luogo la vita della madre. In seguito, l’Autore analizza le legislazioni di alcuni stati musulmani (Tunisia, Kuwait, Egitto, Pakistan, Iran, Arabia Saudita, Bahrain, Algeria), sottolineando che la Sharia (la Legge islamica) costituisce la fonte principali delle leggi statali.

Abstract:
The 2013 Seddon earthquake (Mw 6.5), the 2013 Lake Grassmere earthquake (Mw 6.6), and the 2016 Kaikōura earthquake (Mw 7.8) provided an opportunity to assemble the most extensive damage database to wine storage tanks ever compiled worldwide. An overview of this damage database is presented herein based on the in-field post-earthquake damage data collected for 2058 wine storage tanks (1512 legged tanks and 546 flat-based tanks) following the 2013 earthquakes and 1401 wine storage tanks (599 legged tanks and 802 flat-based tanks) following the 2016 earthquake. Critique of the earthquake damage database revealed that in 2013, 39% and 47% of the flat-based wine tanks sustained damage to their base shells and anchors respectively, while due to resilience measures implemented following the 2013 earthquakes, in the 2016 earthquake the damage to tank base shells and tank anchors of flat-based wine tanks was reduced to 32% and 23% respectively and instead damage to tank barrels (54%) and tank cones (43%) was identified as the two most frequently occurring damage modes for this type of tank. Analysis of damage data for legged wine tanks revealed that the frame-legs of legged wine tanks sustained the greatest damage percentage among different parts of legged tanks in both the 2013 earthquakes (40%) and in the 2016 earthquake (44%). Analysis of damage data and socio-economic findings highlight the need for industry-wide standards, which may have socio-economic implications for wineries.

Aims In Asia and the Middle-East, people often flex their knees deeply in order to perform activities of daily living. The purpose of this study was to investigate the 3D kinematics of normal knees during high-flexion activities. Our hypothesis was that the femorotibial rotation, varus-valgus angle, translations, and kinematic pathway of normal knees during high-flexion activities, varied according to activity. Materials and Methods We investigated the in vivo kinematics of eight normal knees in four male volunteers (mean age 41.8 years; 37 to 53) using 2D and 3D registration technique, and modelled the knees with a computer aided design program. Each subject squatted, kneeled, and sat cross-legged. We evaluated the femoral rotation and varus-valgus angle relative to the tibia and anteroposterior translation of the medial and lateral side, using the transepicodylar axis as our femoral reference relative to the perpendicular projection on to the tibial plateau. This method evaluates the femur medially from what has elsewhere been described as the extension facet centre, and differs from the method classically applied. Results During squatting and kneeling, the knees displayed femoral external rotation. When sitting cross-legged, femurs displayed internal rotation from 10° to 100°. From 100°, femoral external rotation was observed. No significant difference in varus-valgus angle was seen between squatting and kneeling, whereas a varus position was observed from 140° when sitting cross-legged. The measure kinematic pathway using our methodology found during squatting a medial pivoting pattern from 0° to 40° and bicondylar rollback from 40° to 150°. During kneeling, a medial pivot pattern was evident. When sitting cross-legged, a lateral pivot pattern was seen from 0° to 100°, and a medial pivot pattern beyond 100°. Conclusion The kinematics of normal knees during high flexion are variable according to activity. Nevertheless, our study was limited to a small number of male patients using a different technique to report the kinematics than previous publications. One-legged cycling has served as a valuable research tool and as a training and rehabilitation modality. Biomechanics of onelegged cycling are unnatural because the individual must actively lift the leg during flexion, which can be difficult to coordinate and cause premature fatigue. We compared ankle, knee, and hip biomechanics between two-legged, one-legged, and counterweighted (11.64 kg) one-legged cycling. Ten cyclists performed two-legged (240 W), one-legged (120 W), and counterweighted one-legged (120 W) cycling (80 rpm). Pedal forces and limb kinematics were recorded to determine work during extension and flexion. During counterweighted one-legged cycling relative ankle dorsiflexion, knee flexion, and hip flexion work were less than one-legged but greater than two-legged cycling (all P < .05). Relative ankle plantar flexion and hip extension work for counterweighted one-legged cycling were greater than one-legged but less than two-legged cycling (all P < .05). Relative knee extension work did not differ across conditions. Counterweighted one-legged cycling reduced but did not eliminate differences in joint flexion and extension actions between one- and two-legged cycling. Even with these differences, counterweighted one-legged cycling seemed to have advantages over one-legged cycling. These results, along with previous work highlighting physiological characteristics and training adaptations to counterweighted one-legged cycling, demonstrate that this exercise is a viable alternative to one-legged cycling.

Few non-Asian sinological scholars would not recognize the name of James Legge (A.D. 1815–97), partly because his voluminous translations of the Confucian canon still continue to be reprinted and used by Western sinological circles 120 years after their first publication. In China itself, Legge has recently received new attention with the republication of bilingual editions of The Four Books and The Book of Changes. Japanese readers have had rather more access to Legge's English translations of The Four Books, beginning with the early Meiji period and continuing into the twentieth century. Unfortunately, none of these Chinese or Japanese editions has included the extensive commentarial notes drawn from Chinese Confucian and early Western sinological sources which earned Legge his reputation as a world-class Chinese scholar in the nineteenth century.

Objective monitors such as the activPAL characterize time when the thigh is horizontal as sedentary time. However, there are physiological differences between lying, bent-legged sitting, and straight-legged sitting. We introduce a three-monitor configuration to assess detailed sedentary postures and demonstrate its use in characterizing such positions in free-living conditions. We explored time spent in each sedentary posture between prolonged (>1 h) versus non-prolonged (<1 h) sedentary bouts. In total, 35 healthy adults (16♀, 24 ± 3 years; 24 h/day for 6.8 ± 1.0 days) wore an activPAL accelerometer on their thigh, torso, and shin. Hip and knee joint flexion angle estimates were determined during sedentary bouts using the dot-product method between the torso–thigh and thigh–shin, respectively. Compared to lying (69 ± 60 min/day) or straight-legged sitting (113 ± 100 min/day), most time was spent in bent-legged sitting (439 ± 101 min/day, p < 0.001). Most of the bent-legged sitting time was accumulated in non-prolonged bouts (328 ± 83 vs. 112 ± 63 min/day, p < 0.001). In contrast, similar time was spent in straight-legged sitting and lying between prolonged/non-prolonged bouts (both, p > 0.26). We document that a considerable amount of waking time is accumulated in lying or straight-legged sitting. This methodological approach equips researchers with a means of characterizing detailed sedentary postures in uncontrolled conditions and may help answer novel research questions on sedentariness.

Finite Difference Time Domain method(FDTD) is used to study the resonance properties of E-type nano antenna in this paper. According to the result of numerical simulation,the size and location of ledge part made a great influence on the resonance properties of holistic nano antenna while major rectangle part is invariant.The electronic field distribution, enhancement factor and corresponding resonance frequency of E-type nano antennas with invariant major rectangle part and different ledge parts are calculated through FDTD method,comparing with rectangle nano antenna without ledge part, E-type nano antenna has a great promotiom in electronic field enhancement at about 100 times of the excite electronic field intensity while regular rectangle nano antenna can achieve about 30times only.The resonance frequency is relate to the ledge part ,by changing the size and location of ledge part,resonant frequency can be adjusted between 340Thz and 400Thz,at the meantime, the field enhancement almost unchanged. After a glass substrate is added under the E-type nano antenna with constant size,the electronic field intensification factor improved significantly and the electronic field spread over the area around the ledge part rather than the junction of glass and metal.The horizontal position of ledge part has an effect on holistic resonance properties.When the ledge part located in the middle, the electronic field intensification factor of three ledge parts rised to 240 times at the same time,and distinct double resonance peak appeared.When the ledge part moved to the edge, the electronic field enhancement around the ledge parts on the sides weaken and middle ledge part rised to 350 times,double resonance peak disappeared.

Abstract:
Context: Stochastic resonance stimulation (SRS) administered at an optimal intensity could maximize the effects of treatment on balance. Objective: To determine if a customized optimal SRS intensity is better than a traditional SRS protocol (applying the same percentage sensory threshold intensity for all participants) for improving double- and single-legged balance in participants with or without functional ankle instability (FAI). Design: Case-control study with an embedded crossover design. Setting: Laboratory. Patients or Other Participants: Twelve healthy participants (6 men, 6 women; age = 22 ± 2 years, height = 170 ± 7 cm, mass = 64 ± 10 kg) and 12 participants (6 men, 6 women; age = 23 ± 3 years, height = 174 ± 8 cm, mass = 69 ± 10 kg) with FAI. Intervention(s): The SRS optimal intensity level was determined by finding the intensity from 4 experimental intensities at the percentage sensory threshold (25% [SRS25], 50% [SRS50], 75% [SRS75], 90% [SRS90]) that produced the greatest improvement in resultant center-of-pressure velocity (R-COPV) over a control condition (SRS0) during double-legged balance. We examined double- and single-legged balance tests, comparing optimal SRS (SRSopt1) and SRS0 using a battery of center-of-pressure measures in the frontal and sagittal planes. Main Outcome Measure(s): Anterior-posterior (A-P) and medial-lateral (M-L) center-of-pressure velocity (COPV) and center-of-pressure excursion (COPE), R-COPV, and 95th percentile center-of-pressure area ellipse (COPA-95). Results: Data were organized into bins that represented optimal (SRSopt1), second (SRSopt2), third (SRSopt3), and fourth (SRSopt4) improvement over SRS0. The SRSopt1 enhanced R-COPV (P ≤ .05) over SRS0 and other SRS conditions (SRS0 = 0.94 ± 0.32 cm/s, SRSopt1 = 0.80 ± 0.19 cm/s, SRSopt2 = 0.88 ± 0.24 cm/s, SRSopt3 = 0.94 ± 0.25 cm/s, SRSopt4 = 1.00 ± 0.28 cm/s). However, SRS did not improve R-COPV over SRS0 when data were categorized by sensory threshold. Furthermore, SRSopt1 improved double-legged balance over SRS0 from 11% to 25% in all participants for the center-of-pressure frontal- and sagittal-plane assessments (P ≤ .05). The SRSopt1 also improved single-legged balance over SRS0 from 10% to 17% in participants with FAI for the center-of-pressure frontal- and sagittal-plane assessments (P ≤ .05). The SRSopt1 did not improve single-legged balance in participants with stable ankles. Conclusions: The SRSopt1 improved double-legged balance and transfers to enhancing single-legged balance deficits associated with FAI.

Van der Waals complexes of tropolone (TRN) with CF4, CFH3, CF2H2, and CF3H have been synthesized by expanding mixtures of TRN and the fluorinated methane (FM) in a supersonic free-jet and have been examined using laser induced fluorescence excitation spectroscopy. The sign and magnitude of the microscopic solvent shifts and the magnitude of the tunneling doublet splittings of the origin bands of each distinct complex have been determined from the LIFE spectra. These data, together with both empirical and ab initio calculations of the potential energy surfaces of the 1:1 complexes, have been used to assign the structures of the complexes and determine their approximate binding energies. Expansion of TRN with CF4 produces one identifiable 1:1 complex in which the solvent is primarily dispersively bound and lies above the TRN ring in a symmetric three-legged stool conformation. Expansion of TRN with CFH3 produces two 1:1 complexes, both primarily dispersively bound, in which the solvent molecule lies above the seven-membered ring of TRN in a three-legged stool conformation but which differ in the conformational orientation of the CFH3 species on the TRN surface. Expansion of TRN with CF2H2 produces one 1:1 complex in which the solvent molecule lies above the plane of the TRN ring, but is considerably displaced from its centre of mass and in which binding is primarily electrostatic rather than dispersive. All three partially fluorinated methane molecules produce 1:1 complexes with TRN in which the solvent is bound in the TRN plane by intermolecular hygrogen-bonding. Such structures partially disrupt the intramolecular hydrogen bond of the chromophore and consequently exhibit LIFE spectra characterized by intense, strongly blue-shifted origin bands in which the proton tunneling doublets are unresolvable because of a large decrease in the intramolecular proton tunneling rate. The existence of good correlations between the solute-solvent binding energy and the microscopic solvent shift and between the binding energy and the proton affinities of the solvent for the entire group of hydrogen-bonding solvents, including the partially fluorinated methanes, suggests that C–F ... H–O and F–C–H ... O = C interactions result in weak hydrogen bonds which are not qualitatively different from those of more traditional hydrogen-bonding species. PACS No.: 33.20L, 35.20B

In particolare, l'indagine ha inteso verificare tra le persone intervistate l'effettiva conoscenza, comprensione, valutazione ed applicazione degli articoli 5 e 6 della legge italiana n°135 del 1990 su "Programma di interventi urgenti per la prevenzione e la lotta contro l'AIDS". Tali articoli, infatti, riguardano le normative sull'accertamento dell'infezione (art. 5) e il divieto per i datori di lavoro di svolgere indagini volte ad accertare la sieropositività dei propri dipendenti (art.6). L'indagine è stata condotta in tre ospedali: Centro S. Luigi dell'Istituto Scientifico Ospedale S. Raffaele di Milano (150 questionari), Policlinico S. Matteo di Pavia (150 questionari) e Policlinico Universitario "A. Gemelli" di Roma (150 questionari). Il questionario è stato strutturato sulla base di doppie domande: una su ciò che il paziente personalmente pensa riguardo ai suoi "diritti", l'altra su ciò che il paziente pensa che la legge preveda. In generale sembra emergere che i soggetti intervistati sono coscienti di essere persone "infette", però in una comunità che tende a discriminarli. Non sembrano attendersi, inoltre, una piena tutela da parte dello Stato anche se rimangono propensi a collaborare perché la situazione cambi e sono, comunque, disposti ad accettare interventi normativi su se stessi a condizione della non discriminazione e che il loro sacrificio risulti veramente utile per la prevenzione della diffusione del contagio. Risalta, infine, l'esigenza di mantenere riservato lo stato di malattia nel luogo di lavoro.

Aerobic exercise increases whole body adipose tissue lipolysis, but is lipolysis higher in subcutaneous adipose tissue (SCAT) adjacent to contracting muscles than in SCAT adjacent to resting muscles? Ten healthy, overnight-fasted males performed one-legged knee extension exercise at 25% of maximal workload (Wmax) for 30 min followed by exercise at 55% Wmax for 120 min with the other leg and finally exercised at 85% Wmax for 30 min with the first leg. Subjects rested for 30 min between exercise periods. Femoral SCAT blood flow was estimated from washout of 133Xe, and lipolysis was calculated from femoral SCAT interstitial and arterial glycerol concentrations and blood flow. In general, blood flow and lipolysis were higher in femoral SCAT adjacent to contracting than adjacent to resting muscle (time 15–30 min; blood flow: 25% Wmax 6.6 ± 1.0 vs. 3.9 ± 0.8 ml·100 g−1·min−1, P < 0.05; 55% Wmax 7.3 ± 0.6 vs. 5.0 ± 0.6 ml·100 g−1·min−1, P < 0.05; 85% Wmax 6.6 ± 1.3 vs. 5.9 ± 0.7 ml·100 g−1·min−1, P > 0.05; lipolysis: 25% Wmax 102 ± 19 vs. 55 ± 14 nmol·100 g−1·min−1, P = 0.06; 55% Wmax 86 ± 11 vs. 50 ± 20 nmol·100 g−1·min−1, P > 0.05; 85% Wmax 88 ± 31 vs. −9 ± 25 nmol·100 g−1·min−1, P < 0.05). This paper focuses on motion which is considered an important issue for insect robots, which consumes significant energy sources in general. We inspired the robot design structure from the challenges that crawling insects face in nature, especially a cockroach. The proposed robot configuration enhanced error scale such as energy modulation, computation, and mass. This paper presents the design and construction of six-legged robot with minimum number of trigger motors and the movement mechanisms used for the leg movements. The insect robot resembles a cockroach in shape and size (1.6 cm × 4 cm) and can move at rates of up to 3.5 cm per second. The robot can operate for up to 260 minutes. Additionally, it has a camera that can rotate more than 60 degrees in response to commands from a smartphone. The 160×120 pixels monochrome "first person" camera transmits video to a Bluetooth radio at a distance of up to 120 meters away at a frame rate of 1 to 5 per second.

We have taken angle-resolved data for the scattering of low-energy (<1 keV) 4 He + from deuterium adsorbed on a stepped Pd (331) surface. The impact geometry was "up the staircase," i.e. the 4 He + beam was perpendicular to and directly incident onto the unshadowed <011> Pd ledge atoms. A strong quasielastic scattering signal of 4 He + from D (4 He +/D) was observed at a forward-scattering angle of θ= 25° and an incidence angle of α= 76° from the (331) normal. The results agree with shadow-cone calculations of scattering first from Pd ledge atoms followed by a second event, 4 He +/D. The resultant adsorption geometry shows D to reside in the quasi-threefold ledge site on the surface directly above the bulk fcc octahedral void. These results are consistent with the previous 4 He + scattering study of the geometrically related Pd(110)-D(ads) system.

The cascading launch and cooperative work of lander and rover are the pivotal methods to achieve lunar zero-distance exploration. The separated design results in a heavy system mass that requires more launching costs and a limited exploration area that is restricted to the vicinity of the immovable lander. To solve this problem, we have designed a six-legged movable repetitive lander, called “HexaMRL”, which congenitally integrates the function of both the lander and rover. However, achieving a buffered landing after a failure of the integrated drive units (IDUs) in the harsh lunar environment is a great challenge. In this paper, we systematically analyze the fault-tolerant capacity of all possible landing configurations in which the number of remaining normal legs is more than two and design the landing algorithm to finish a fault-tolerant soft-landing for the stable configuration. A quasi-incentre stability optimization method is further proposed to increase the stability margin during supporting operations after landing. To verify the fault-tolerant landing performance on the moon, a series of experiments, including five-legged, four-legged and three-legged soft-landings with a vertical landing velocity of −1.9 m/s and a payload of 140 kg, are successfully carried out on a 5-DoF lunar gravity ground-testing platform. The HexaMRL with fault-tolerant landing capacity will greatly promote the development of a next-generation lunar prober.

ABSTRACT:The need for hollow microneedle arrays is important for both drug delivery and wearable sensor applications; however, their fabrication poses many challenges. Hollow metal microneedle arrays residing on a flexible metal foil substrate were created by combining additive manufacturing, micromolding, and electroplating approaches in a process we refer to as electromolding. A solid microneedle with inward facing ledge was fabricated with a two photon polymerization (2PP) system utilizing laser direct write (LDW) and then molded with polydimethylsiloxane. These molds were then coated with a seed layer of Ti/Au and subsequently electroplated with pulsed deposition to create hollow microneedles. An inward facing ledge provided a physical blocking platform to restrict deposition of the metal seed layer for creation of the microneedle bore. Various ledge sizes were tested and showed that the resulting seed layer void could be controlled via the ledge length. Mechanical properties of the PDMS mold was adjusted via the precursor ratio to create a more ductile mold that eliminated tip damage to the microneedles upon removal from the molds. Master structures were capable of being molded numerous times and molds were able to be reused. SEM/EDX analysis showed that trace amounts of the PDMS mold were transferred to the metal microneedle upon removal. The microneedle substrate showed a degree of flexibility that withstood over 100 cycles of bending from side to side without damaging. Microneedles were tested for their fracture strength and were capable of puncturing porcine skin and injecting a dye.

Animals inhabiting complex environments often contend with multiple stressors that can select for conflicting responses. Individuals can mediate these conflicts by utilizing correlated responses across multiple traits. In aquatic habitats, larval amphibians often face conflicting, simultaneous pressures, such as ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation and predators. UV-B radiation and predation risk influence behavior and body color in many amphibian species, altering activity rates, refuge use, and coloration. When both UV-B and predators are present, individuals can avoid conflicts by coupling behavior with body color to form a correlated response. UV-B exposure rates vary along an elevation gradient, thus trait combinations may also vary. We quantified changes in activity rates and body color in two anuran species, the red-legged frog ( Rana aurora Baird and Girard, 1852) (low elevations) and the cascades frog ( Rana cascadae Slater, 1939) (high elevations), during exposure to predator chemical cues (rough-skinned newt, Taricha granulosa (Skilton, 1849)) and UV-B radiation. Rana aurora decreased activity in response to UV-B and became more cryptic over time, while R. cascadae coupled decreased activity rates in response to predators with dark body coloration to screen out UV-B. Both species responded with a correlated trait response, yet employed opposite strategies. This observed species difference may be reflective of differences in stress across habitats and availability of alternative defenses.

Purpose: to evaluate, by means of MR imaging, the degree and persistence of synovitis in the hip joint in Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease and to correlate the degree of synovitis with the degree of epiphyseal necrosis Material and Methods: A total of 170 MR images in 72 patients (84 hips) were examined. the T2-weighted MR images were taken in the coronal plane in order to evaluate the degree of synovitis in the hip joint Results: MR revealed synovitis in all cases in the early phase of the disease. in Catterall group II, synovitis was discreet to moderate for up to 6 months after diagnosis. Hips with more severe necrosis, Catterall groups III and IV, had moderate or intense degrees of synovitis. There was a correlation between the degree of synovitis and the lateral pillar classification according to HERRING et al. Also, there was a good correlation between the extent of signal changes in the epiphysis on MR imaging and the degree of synovitis. There was no difference when signal changes were evaluated on T1- or T2-weighted images. Signs of synovitis could be seen for up to 30 months after diagnosis in Catterall group I hips, and in Catterall groups II and III for up to 36 months, and in 2 cases even longer. Some Catterall group IV hips had discreet or mild synovitis for 60 months or more, after diagnosis Conclusion: the degree of synovitis on MR imaging correlates to the extent of epiphyseal necrosis seen on radiographs or MR imaging as well as to the lateral pillar classification, i.e. to a poor clinical outcome. in Catterall group IV hips, synovitis can even persist for up to 60 months after diagnosis

Abstract The manufacture and maintenance of large parts in ships, trains, aircrafts, and so on create an increasing demand for mobile machine tools to perform in-situ operations. However, few mobile robots can accommodate the complex environment of industrial plants while performing machining tasks. This study proposes a novel six-legged walking machine tool consisting of a legged mobile robot and a portable parallel kinematic machine tool. The kinematic model of the entire system is presented, and the workspace of different components, including a leg, the body, and the head, is analyzed. A hierarchical motion planning scheme is proposed to take advantage of the large workspace of the legged mobile platform and the high precision of the parallel machine tool. The repeatability of the head motion, body motion, and walking distance is evaluated through experiments, which is 0.11, 1.0, and 3.4 mm, respectively. Finally, an application scenario is shown in which the walking machine tool steps successfully over a 250 mm-high obstacle and drills a hole in an aluminum plate. The experiments prove the rationality of the hierarchical motion planning scheme and demonstrate the extensive potential of the walking machine tool for in-situ operations on large parts.

Abstract:
Shiitake mushroom, Lentinula edodes, is the second largest edible fungus in the world, with a characteristic aroma. 1,2,3,5,6-pentathioheterocycloheptane, commonly known as lenthionine, is the main source of this aroma. Lenthionine has high commercial value, and if we explore the possible induction mechanism of citric acid in lenthionine synthesis, we can provide a reference for the effective application of citric acid as an inducer. In this paper, the single-factor treatment of Lentinula edodes with variable citric acid concentration and treatment duration showed that the best citric acid concentration for L. edodes was 300 μM, and the best treatment duration was 15 days. Additionally, the optimal design conditions were obtained using the response surface method (RSM); the treatment concentration was 406 μM/L, the treatment duration was 15.6 days, and the lenthionine content was 130 μg/g. γ-Glutamyl transpeptidase (LEGGT) and cystine sulfoxide lyase (LECSL) are the key enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of lanthionine. The expression levels of LEGGT and LECSL genes increased significantly under citric acid treatment. Additionally, the lenthionine content of the silenced strains of LEGGT and LECSL was significantly decreased.

Abstract Balance impairment is a common problem among older adults. Poor balance in older adults is often associated with mobility impairments, activity limitations and fear of falling in older adults. Thus, balance assessment is useful for early detection of postural control deficits to prevent mobility impairments and falls in older adults. The aim of this study was to assess if balance measures based in center of pressure (COP) parameters during one-legged stance could differentiate between older adults with and without falls in the past 12 months. One-hundred and seventy older adults (50 fallers and 120 non-fallers, age range: 63-72 years) performed three 30s one-legged stance trials with eyes open on a force platform with 30s of rest between each trial. The following variables were evaluated: COP 95% elliptical area, COP velocity in the anterior-posterior and medio-lateral directions, and test duration (how long the participant was able to stay in one-legged stance, up to 30s). Fallers had poorer balance than non-fallers (P ≤0.004). The COP parameters presented an area under the curve between 0.65-0.72, with sensitivity varying from 66 to 78% and specificity from 54 to 68%. There were no significant differences between fallers and non-fallers on test duration (17 vs. 18s, respectively). The findings showed that the fallers had similar duration time, but poorer balance than the non-fallers during one-legged stance. The COP parameters were able to differentiate the balance between fallers and non-fallers with acceptable area under curve, sensitivity and specificity.

The purpose of the present study was to determine the effect of leg exercise training on sympathetic nerve responses at rest and during dynamic exercise. Six men were trained by using high-intensity interval and prolonged continuous one-legged cycling 4 day/wk, 40 min/day, for 6 wk. Heart rate, mean arterial pressure (MAP), and muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA; peroneal nerve) were measured during 3 min of upright dynamic one-legged knee extensions at 40 W before and after training. After training, peak oxygen uptake in the trained leg increased 19 ± 2% ( P < 0.01). At rest, heart rate decreased from 77 ± 3 to 71 ± 6 beats/min ( P< 0.01) with no significant changes in MAP (91 ± 7 to 91 ± 11 mmHg) and MSNA (29 ± 3 to 28 ± 1 bursts/min). During exercise, both heart rate and MAP were lower after training (108 ± 5 to 96 ± 5 beats/min and 132 ± 8 to 119 ± 4 mmHg, respectively, during the third minute of exercise; P < 0.01). MSNA decreased similarly from rest during the first 2 min of exercise both before and after training. However, MSNA was significantly less during the third minute of exercise after training (32 ± 2 to 22 ± 3 bursts/min; P < 0.01). This training effect on MSNA remained when MSNA was expressed as bursts per 100 heartbeats. Responses to exercise in five untrained control subjects were not different at 0 and 6 wk. These results demonstrate that exercise training prolongs the decrease in MSNA during upright leg exercise and indicates that attenuation of MSNA to exercise reported with forearm training also occurs with leg training.

Abstract:
The scope of the research problem encompasses selected issues concerning the content and sense of the elements characterizing the offense of espionage in Polish criminal law. In the legislation currently in force, the offense of espionage is criminalized under Art. 130 § 1–4 of the Criminal Code. The main purpose of the analysis is to perform a substantive criminal examination of the offense of espionage under Polish law, considering a practical case study and an assessment of the legal provisions regarding state security. In order to elaborate the material scope of the research problem and present the conclusions, the paper asks the following research questions: (1) To what extent are the de lege lata legal solutions in Poland effective in counteracting espionage offenses?, (2) What de lege ferenda solutions ought to be proposed to improve effective counteraction of espionage offenses? The paper includes an institutional and legal analysis aided by textual, functional, and historical interpretations, supplemented with the author’s conclusions and opinions concerning de lege lata and de lege ferenda solutions. The institutional and legal analysis is supplemented with a case study of espionage activity. The case study helps consider selected legal problems and presents example legal classifications of the described acts associated with espionage activity.

The allelopathic effects of fescue (Festuca arundinacea) variety ‘Milennium’ 2 leaf aqueous extracts on 10 fescue varieties were assayed. The 50 mg·ml-1 treatment increased the biomass and physiological indices (soluble sugar content, malondialdehyde content and root activity), whereas the 100 mg·ml-1 and 150 mg·ml-1 treatments were inhibitory. There was variable response of fescue varieties to different treatments, the varieties (Aries, Millennium2, and Free star) were most sensitive to the leaf extracts, while Greenlabel, Lenge maste, and Arid3 varieties were least sensitive. The treatments most affected the physiological factor, relative electrolyte leakage, followed by the soluble sugar content, malondialdehyde content, and root activity. These results suggested that sowing an appropriate combination and proportion of grass varieties may be better to improve the lawn quality than the continuous use of a single grass variety.

Introduzione. Le linee guida sono delle raccomandazioni con diversi livelli di evidenza scientifica messe a punto dagli esperti individuati dalle Autorità Regolatorie e dalle Società Professionali per consentire i migliori standard di intervento diagnostico e terapeutico al momento disponibili. Con la Legge 24/2017 in Italia sono diventate di osservanza giurisprudenziale, anche se a tutt’oggi mancano ancora le raccomandazioni ministeriali previste. Scopo. L’obiettivo dello studio è la valutazione nella pratica ambulatoriale cardiologica corrente dell’adesione alle linee guida della Società Europea di Cardiologia (ESC) riguardo i 3 principali fattori di rischio cardiovascolare: quelle sull’ipertensione del 2018, sulle dislipidemie e diabete mellito del 2019. Sono state valutate le criticità cliniche, amministrative ed organizzative che rendono difficoltosa la loro applicazione. Metodi e risultati. I target di valori pressori raccomandati dalle linee guida europee nei pazienti con sindrome coronarica cronica ipertesi comportano difficoltà decisionali soprattutto riguardanti la persistenza di valori di pressione sistolica elevata ≥ 140 mmHg con diastolica < 70 mmHg, ritenuti pericolosi dalle linee guida, valori di sistolica < 130 mmHg nelle persone di età ≥ 65 anni e in quelle con valori < 120 mmHg di età inferiore. Sempre in questi pazienti, con dislipidemia, la normativa vigente non prevede la rimborsabilità dei farmaci inibitori PCSK9 nei pazienti con livelli di LDL superiori all’obiettivo indicato di 55 mg/dl ma inferiore a 100 mg/dl. Nei pazienti diabetici a rischio molto elevato non è prevista la possibilità prescrittiva del cardiologo e dei medici di medicina generale degli ipoglicemizzanti appartenenti alle categorie degli SGLT2-i e GLP1-ar nonostante questi farmaci siano raccomandati in classe I A. Per le difficoltà organizzative riscontrate la prescrizione è limitata al 15-20% dei pazienti a rischio cardiovascolare molto elevato. Conclusioni. Le linee guida rappresentano le raccomandazioni per la migliore terapia a disposizione da parte della medicina ufficiale. Esse aiutano il medico a prendere la decisione terapeutica più congrua allo stato dell’arte. Problematiche di ordine clinico, amministrativo ed organizzativo rendono difficili gli adeguati percorsi diagnosticoterapeutici ed assistenziali necessari per la loro applicazione nella pratica clinica rendendo non ottimale il trattamento dei tre principali fattori di rischio cardiovascolare. L’inerzia terapeutica conseguente alla fatica burocratica potrebbe esporre il medico a problematiche medico-legali imputabili più a meccanismi di sistema che alla sua competenza professionale.
