Abstract:
Tutkimukseni primaarilähteenä on Maria Vaaran Likaiset legendat. Teos on omaelämäkerrallinen kuvaus mielen sairaudesta, skitsofreniasta. Tutkimukseni aluksi kerron tutkimukseni tekoajankohdan kontekstista, jonka lisäksi taustoitan myös teoksen ilmestymisajankohdan kirjallisen kentän tapahtumia ja mielisairaiden hoidon pääpiirteitä. Tutkimuksessani konstruoin Vaaran teoksen hulluuden poetiikkaa, eli sitä, miten teoksessa on luotu hulluuden kuvausta kirjallisin keinoin. Hulluus värittää teosta kokonaisvaltaisesti: se on näkyvillä monipuolisesti niin teoksen muodossa kuin sisällössäkin. Tutkimuksessani analysoin teoksen peritekstit, jotka ohjaavat lukijan tulkintaa hulluuden kuvausta kohti. Myös hulluuteen liittyvä aihesanasto ankkuroi lukijan tulkintaa. Käsittelen tutkimuksessani kohdeteokseni päähenkilön osakseen saamaa stigmaa. Läpi tutkimukseni olen pitänyt eettiset kysymykset erityisen paljon pinnalla ajattelussani. Tutkimukseni keskiössä ovat päähenkilö Marian kokemat harhat sekä niiden kategorisointi ja tulkinta. Olen jakanut harhoja käsittelevän luvun viiteen alalukuun. Ensimmäinen alaluku käsittelee Raamattuun viittaavia hahmoja ja irrallisia, toinen alaluku ajallisia ja tilallisia siirtymiä sekä muodonmuutoksia, ja kolmas alaluku luontoharhoja ja personifikaatioita. Neljännessä alaluvussa käsittelen teoksen intertekstuaalisuutta ja yhteisen merkityspinnan hakemista. Viidennessä alaluvussa kokoan merkityksiä yhteen ja kokoan tulkintojani siitä, mitä ovat hulluuden poetiikka ja valta tässä teoksessa. Viimeisessä käsittelyluvussa analysoin teoksen värisymboliikkaa. Hulluuden lisäksi tutkimukseni toinen pääteema on valta ja sen ilmentymät kohdeteoksessani. Valta-aktit olen jakanut teoksen sisäisiin ja ulkoisiin tekijöihin. Ulkopuolista valtaa käyttävät esimerkiksi teoksen lukijat. Sisäistä valtaa käyttävät olen jaotellut teoksen sisäisiin mutta Marian ulkopuolisiin hahmoihin sekä Marian sisäisiin valtasuhteisiin. Ulkopuolen ja sisäpuolen välillä vallankäyttäjinä toimivat lisäksi yhteiskunta ja biovalta. Marian sisäisiä valtasuhteita olen analysoinut Sigmund Freudin psyykkisen persoonan jäsentymisen käsitteillä; tiedostamattomalla, minällä ja yliminällä. Lisäksi olen käyttänyt analyysissani Freudin unien tulkintaan liittyviä ilmiasuisen ja piilevän merkityksen käsitteitä. Vallan ja biovallan käsitteet nojaavat työssäni Michel Foucault’n teoretisointiin. Tutkimuksessani olen pyrkinyt käsittelemään teosta mahdollisimman laajalla otteella, mutta siitä huolimatta jatkotutkimusaiheita jäi valtavasti. Esimerkiksi yleisemmän hulluuden poetiikan konstruoiminen suomalaisista hulluutta kuvaavista teoksista olisi erittäin mielenkiintoista. Sekä kohdeteokseni analyysi että tutkimuskirjallisuus kertovat siitä, että hulluus toimii yhteiskunnan peilinä, ja siitä, että skitsofrenia on oikeastaan ymmärtämättömyyden ja yhteiskunnan sairaus. Käsitykset hulluudesta, todellisuudesta ja normaaliudesta ovat aina kontekstisidonnaisia ja muuttuvia. Vielä jääkin nähtäväksi, luetaanko Likaisia legendoja tulevaisuudessa hulluuden kuvauksena.

Abstract:
This study was designed to identify recurring themes in Civil War legends that are told in reference to antebellum homes in regions of Southwest Virginia. Existing literature indicates that collecting these legends is an important task because doing so helps others to better understand the community of legend-tellers. Previous research has also indicated that legends form a type of American mythology with reveals the way the legend-tellers perceive the specific subject they describe in the legends. Eight historic homes were visited in six southwestern counties of Virginia. Qualitative data were collected from a purposive sample of 12 participants who lived in these houses, previously lived in an historic house, or worked in an historic house museum. Each house was chosen as a site of inquiry because it has some significance for those interested in the Civil War or because it represents typical houses in similar southwestern Virginian communities during the Civil War era. In-depth interviews were the sole means of data collection and provided detailed and unlimited legends used to identify themes. The data were collected analyzed using a multiple case study approach. The findings from this study indicate that Civil War legends are being told in reference to antebellum homes in Southwest Virginia. Additionally, the tellers of the legends have common thoughts about the Civil War. The three major conclusions made in this study are (1) northern soldiers were aggressors during the Civil War; (2) southerners were strong during the Civil War; and (3) ghosts and ghostly activity serve as reminders of the Civil War. By continuing to share these legends, the tellers indicate their own perspectives of the Civil War as well as the perspectives of those who originate the legends. The legend-tellers also provide insight into the culture of today's southwestern Virginians as well as the Civil War era southwestern Virginians.

Abstract:
This thesis explores modalities in two hagiographical collections from the late Middle Ages; the Legenda Aurea and the Gilte Legende by drawing inspiration from post-colonial hybridity theories.. It conducts a close textual analysis by studying the use of pronouns in five saints’ legends where female saints transcend traditional gender identities and become men, and focuses on how they transcend, live as men, and die. The study concludes that the use of pronouns is fluid in the Latin Legenda Aurea, while the Middle English Gilte Legende has more female pronouns and additions to the texts where the female identity of the saints is emphasised. This is interpreted as a sign of the feminisation of religious language in Europe during the late Middle Ages, and viewed parallel with the increase of holy women at that time. By doing this, it underlines the importance of new words and concepts when describing and understanding medieval views on gender.

This diploma thesis deals with the exploration and comparison of symbol keys used for official maps of European countries. The theoretical part deals mainly with legends and cartographic symbols as a key element of the thesis. Then an assessment of available symbol systems and comparison of map symbols used in symbol systems for the official map of the Czech Republic is made. In the conclusion there is drawn proposal for symbol system applicable to maps of all European countries.

Abstract:
The Steiner/Waldorf school movement is currently one of the fastest growing independent school movements internationally. In several countries it seems to have developed into the most popular form of alternative education. South Africa has 17 Waldorf schools and one full-time teacher training facility. This study investigated the interpretation and implementation of the Parzival main lesson within the wider context of the Waldorf curriculum. The main lesson system is an essential constituent of the Waldorf curriculum. Most academic subjects in a Waldorf school are taught in a three- or four-week main lesson block. The main lesson occupies the first two hours of the school day. A main lesson consists of a particular three-part structure, and the main lesson book is the keystone to the Waldorf evaluative process. The Parzival main lesson is specifically taught in Class 11, and most Waldorf schools consider it as one of the most important main lessons in the high school. The interpretivist model was ideally suited to this research. The investigation was conducted as a multiple case study, and the main source of data was provided by classroom observation. This was supported by interviews and classroom artifacts. The study involved two South African Waldorf schools at which the Parzival main lesson is taught. This main lesson is presented at only three South African Waldorf schools. I teach at the remaining school, and therefore conducted my research at the other two schools. The teachers who facilitated the Parzival main lesson, as well as the Class students at the selected schools voluntarily participated in the research. My research findings indicate that the possibility exists for the teacher to exercise a certain degree of freedom and creativity within the parameters of Waldorf methodology and the Waldorf curriculum. The study also determines that teachers often find it difficult to integrate the three-part structure, as indicated by Waldorf methodology, in a single main lesson. Furthermore, my research establishes that main lesson books can indeed serve as both text and as an assessment tool. I therefore conclude and maintain in this study, with particular reference to the Parzival main lesson, that despite the prescriptive structure of the Waldorf system and Steiner pedagogy, teachers need not necessarily sacrifice their freedom and creativity within the classroom.

Age of Legends is an original orchestral composition in three movements, of approximately twenty minutes in duration. In the tradition of the literature-inspired symphonic poem, the piece is based on the celebrated fiction series The Wheel of Time , by acclaimed American author Robert Jordan (1948-2007). The title of the thesis refers to a particularly enchanting era described in the series, wherein the magical and miraculous are interwoven into everyday life. The piece's three movements portray a purely musical depiction of the breathtaking adventures that unfold throughout the fourteen-volume fantasy saga, evoking its richly imaginative scenes and thrilling, dramatic developments. Additionally, the music seeks to embody the intense emotional and psychological states experienced in the lives of The Wheel of Time 's fascinating literary characters, as they undergo defining moments of tremendous bravery, extreme peril, and exultant triumph.

Resumo: Este trabalho pretende mostrar o papel participativo do tradutor na produção de legendas de filmes. A partir de trechos dos filmes O Auto da Compadecida, com legendas em inglês, e A Outra, com legendas em português, contrastamos aspectos dos filmes em língua original e as respectivas traduções com o objetivo de apresentar as diferenças de interpretação dos tradutores. Os trabalhos sobre legendagem, como mostramos, buscam reproduzir os sentidos dos diálogos originais, supostamente imutáveis e estáveis, nas legendas traduzidas, buscando sempre a não-diferença entre original e tradução. O tradutor teria como obrigação resgatar as intenções do autor das falas e colocá-las nas legendas. Em direção oposta, partimos do princípio de que toda leitura/interpretação denuncia sua origem, contexto, história e circunstâncias de produção. Assim, o tradutor não escapa de suas características mais singulares e as leva para a tradução de legendas, imprimindo, inevitavelmente, um viés, um contorno, uma particularidade que influencia o resultado final do texto das legendas. Pretendemos mostrar, então, que para o espectador que não compreende a língua original, as legendas apresentam o enredo, os personagens, o filme conforme os olhos de cada tradutor

A legendagem, no âmbito da tradução audiovisual, é a chamada tradução diagonal, que apresenta, por escrito, o ato da fala. As legendas evidenciam os diversos elementos linguísticos e culturais presentes nesse ato, com todo o arcabouço de ideias, valores, e crenças de uma língua. Partindo do pressuposto que as legendas explicitam as escolhas tradutórias que refletem esses elementos, este trabalho consiste no estudo das instâncias de humor e linguagem sensível na legendagem de comédias brasileiras, em DVDs com legendas em inglês. Usando como base teórica para identificar e analisar as decisões tradutórias a Teoria do Script Semântico de Humor, de Victor Raskin, a Teoria Geral do Humor Verbal, de Raskin e Attardo, a Teoria do Escopo, de Reiss e Vermeer e a Teoria Funcionalista de Christiane Nord, assim como a definição das práticas de tradução para legendas de Jorge Díaz-Cintas e os procedimentos e estratégias tradutórias de Heloísa Barbosa e Henrik Gottlieb, procurou-se descrever os tipos de humor e linguagem sensível nas legendas de comédias brasileiras e analisar as estratégias nelas adotadas e efetivadas. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
Subtitling, within the scope of audiovisual translation, is the so-called diagonal translation, which presents, in written form, a speech act. Subtitles convey the various linguistic and cultural elements found in this act, together with the framework of ideas, values and beliefs of a given language. Assuming that subtitles set forth the translational choices that reflect these elements, this work aims at analyzing occurrences of humor and sensitive language in Brazilian comedies, in DVDs with English subtitles. To identify and investigate the translational choices, the theoretical framework used was Victor Raskin’s Script-based Semantic Theory of Humor, Raskin and Attardo’s General Theory of Verbal Humor, Reiss and Vermeer’s Skopostheorie and Christiane Nord’s Functionalist Theory, as well as the definition and subtitling practices by Jorge Díaz-Cintas and translation procedures and strategies by Heloísa Barbosa and Henrik Gottlieb, with the purpose of outlining the types of humor and sensitive language in the subtitles of Brazilian comedies and analyzing the chosen strategies.

This M.A. dissertation analyzes the work Idylls of the King (1889), from the English poet Alfred Tennyson, as a historical source. Our first aim is to identify the context of the idylls production, associating the work to political, economical and social matters such as the ones that were formed at the Victorian England. The second one is to identify the singularities from the Tennyson´s authorship through the characters selection, episodes and approached themes from the achievement which we call temporal transition, associating the Arthurian myth to the English history. In that manner, we identify what the author believed to be the mission of the poet, linked to social function of culture. The third aim is to identify the royalty built by Tennyson, based on what he considered to be the tradition which passes through all the nation history, the political and personal virtues
Esta dissertação analisa a obra Idylls of the King (1889), do poeta inglês Alfred Tennyson, como documento ou registro histórico. Nosso primeiro objetivo é identificarmos o contexto de produção dos idílios, associando a obra as questões políticas, econômicas e sociais tal como se configuravam na Inglaterra vitoriana. O segundo é identificarmos as marcas da autoria de Tennyson por meio da seleção de personagens, episódios e temas abordados a partir da realização do que denominamos trânsito temporal, que associa o mito arthuriano à história inglesa. Dessa forma, identificamos aquilo que o autor acreditava ser a missão do poeta, vinculada à função social da cultura. O terceiro objetivo é identificarmos a realeza construída por Tennyson, fundamentada no que considerava ser a tradição que perpassara toda a história da nação, a virtude pessoal e política

Darbe sociokultūriniu požiūriu nagrinėjami skirtingų žanrų Tomo Venclovos tekstai, dėmesį kreipiant į subjekto identiteto raišką. “Aš naratyvą” suprantant kaip pasakojimą arba pasakojimus, padedančius individui ir kitiems refleksyviai suvokti jo tapatumą, lyginama subjekto tapatybės raiška eseistikoje ir publicistikoje bei poezijoje, gilinamasi, kaip kultūrinė bei literatūrinė “Aš tapatybė” perimama, integruojama ir veikia verčiamuose tekstuose. Subjekto identiteto raiška stebima laiko perspektyvoje to paties žanro tekstuose bei lyginama, kokie yra subjekto identitetų santykiai (panašumai, skirtumai, neatitikimai) skirtingo žanro tekstuose. Lyginant vertimo tekstą su originalais, išryškėja dvikryptis kultūrinio ir literatūrinio identiteto per���mimo procesas, leidžiantis įvardinti perimamus literatūrinius ir kultūrinius modelius. Subjekto identitetas eseistikoje labai stiprus ir aiškiai suvoktas. Jis nuosekliai palaikomas ir patvirtinamas, nepaisant jo prieštaringumo supančios aplinkos atžvilgiu. Poezijos subjekto „Aš naratyvas“ kinta laiko perspektyvoje, chronologiniu požiūriu vėlesniuose eilėraščiuose ryškus subjekto nebesugebėjimas įsitvirtinti laike ir erdvėje bei užmegzti ryšius su pasaulio objektais, kas yra pagrindinė tapatybės išlaikymo ir patvirtinimo sąlyga. Skirtingi „Aš naratyvai“ kuria prieštaringą, daugialypę, tačiau unikalią „Aš tapatybę“.
Work analyses different genres of T. Venclova‘s texts from sociocultural point of view, paying attention to the expression of subject’s identity. Understanding “narrative of the self” as narration or narrations, which helps individual and the rest reflexively realize its sameness, expression of subject’s identity is compared in essays and views on political issues, on societal and cultural developments, going deep into how cultural and literary “narrative of the self” getting intercepted, integrated and acts in translations of the texts. Expression of subjects identity is observed in prospect of the time in the texts of the same genre and it is compared what are the terms of the subject’s identities (likeness, difference, inadequacy) in the texts of the different genres. Translation of the text compared with originals, shows up bidirectional process of succession of cultural and literary identity, which lets designate successive literary and cultural models. Subject’s identity in essays is very strong and clearly seized. It’s sequaciously upholded and affirmed, despite its discrepancy from the point of surrounding environment. Abstract : Since the 1980's, Urban Legends (ULs) have been extensively studied by folklore studies (Brunvand, 1981, 1993, 1998, 2001, 2002), focusing on the role of these texts in society. Following the early focus on orally transmitted legends, more recent research has addressed the written format of ULs on the Internet (Genge, 2000; Noymer, 2001; Brednich, 2002; Dale, 2005; Lopes, 2007, 2008; DiFonzo & Bordia, 2007). In this context, the present research investigates textual and contextual features of contemporary ULs following the perspective of Critical Discourse Analysis (Fairclough, 1989, 1992, 1995, 2003, 2004), a multidisciplinary field to the study of texts that stresses the bidirectional relation between texts and contexts. The texts in this study are analyzed as a type of discourse and genre, examined in relation to specific lexicogrammatical features viz. TRANSITIVITY, MOOD and exponents of Modality (Halliday & Matthiessen, 2004), and discussed both in terms of their immediate context of situation and of the broader context of culture. Besides, aspects of the representation of social practices, social actors and legitimation are explored applying van Leeuwen's (1996, 2008) sociosemantic categories. In order to discuss the sociological component of language in the data, I propose to look at these texts as social semiotic activities in a globalized context that Bauman has called Liquid Modernity (2000, 2001, 2004, 2006, 2007a, 2007b, 2011a, 2011b). Results show that though relying on the narrative structure, contemporary Urban legends can be considered a type of hortatory discourse; the textual and contextual parameters allow the readers to identify with the victims' position, creating a virtual group of 'us' (possible victims) versus 'them' (deceivers), and the mundane, daily contemporary environments and social actions are represented as unsafe and fearful. Results also show that the writers/senders establish a degree of intimacy with the readers, rely on a series of legitimation techniques to manipulate belief in fabulous events and entice the re-transmission of the texts. Furthermore these stories can be seen as a social practice that represents and propagates the fears and insecurities which are characteristic of liquid modernity.

Desde a década de 1980, as Lendas Urbanas (LUs) tem sido bastante estudadas pelos estudos de folclore (Brunvand, 1981, 1993, 1998, 2001, 2002), que focalizam o papel desses textos na sociedade. Seguindo o foco inicial em lendas transmitidas oralmente, pesquisas mais recentes têm abordado a forma escrita das LUs na Internet (Genge, 2000; Noymer, 2001; Brednich, 2002; Dale, 2005; Lopes, 2007, 2008; DiFonzo & Bordia, 2007). Nesse contexto, a pesquisa aqui apresentada investiga características textuais e contextuais de LUs contemporâneas seguindo a perspective da Análise Crítica do Discurso (Fairclough, 1989, 1992, 1995, 2003, 2004), uma área multidisciplinar para o estudo de textos que destaca a relação bidirecional entre textos e contextos. Os textos nesse estudo são analisados como um tipo de discurso e gênero, examinados em relação a características lexicogramaticais especificas viz. TRANSITIVIDADE, MODO e exponentes de Modalidade (Halliday & Matthiessen, 2004), e discutidos tanto em relação ao contexto de situação imediato quanto ao contexto de cultura mais amplo. Além disso, aspectos da representação de práticas sociais, atores sociais e legitimação são explorados com a aplicação das categorias sociosemânticas de van Leeuwen (1996, 2008). Para a investigação do componente sociológico da linguagem nos dados, proponho que olhemos para estes textos como atividades socio-semióticas em um contexto globalizado a que Bauman se refere como Modernidade Líquida (2000, 2001, 2004, 2006, 2007a, 2007b, 2011a, 2011b). Os resultados mostram que, apesar de ter como base a estrutura narrativa, as Lendas Urbanas contemporâneas podem ser consideradas um tipo de discurso exortativo; os parâmetros textuais e contextuais permitem ao leitor identificar-se com a posição de vítima, criando um grupo virtual de 'nós' (possíveis vítimas) versus 'eles' (enganadores) os ambientes e ações sociais mundanos, diários e contemporâneos são representados como inseguros e passíveis de medo. Os resultados também mostram que os autores/retransmissores estabelecem um grau de intimidade com os leitores, utilizam uma série de estratégias de legitimação para manipular a crença em eventos fabulosos e incitar a retransmissão dos textos. Além disso, essas estórias podem ser vistas como uma prática social que representa e propaga o medo e a insegurança que são característicos da modernidade líquida.

Abstract:
The medieval Christian attitude towards Jews cannot be easily characterised. Legend often portrayed Jews as hostile, grotesque and murderous. Yet close reading of medieval Christian stories about Jews reveals a more complex picture. The Legenda Aurea, compiled by Jacobus de Voragine in the thirteenth century from earlier sources, includes among its recitals of saints’ lives, miracles and related religious themes a number of tales in which Christian miracles are brought forth, albeit perhaps unwittingly, by the agency of Jews. Christian theological and social ambivalence toward Jews (discussed in Chapter One) developed from the Pauline doctrine of the Jews as the first, though undeserving recipients of Christianity, and the Augustinian concept of Jews as outcast and subjugated, but still crucial witnesses to Christian truth. This truth was attested to in early and medieval rhetoric about miracles (Chapter two); miracles involving saints, icons and Christian symbols were cited to affirm divine sanction for Christ and Christianity, and could be instrumental in converting Jews. Following this discussion of Jews and of the miracle, the three final chapters discuss tales from the Legenda Aurea that depict miracles being enabled by Jewish actions. These could be hostile Jewish attacks on Christian images or personages (Chapter Three). However, other tales depict Jews inviting miracles by behaving as if they had some belief in, or secret knowledge of, Christ or the cross (Chapter Four). Finally, the ‘Silvester’ legend (Chapter Five) depicts Jews disputing with Christians and turning to magic when rhetoric fails, but being vanquished by a Christian miracle that they themselves have challenged the saint to perform.

Asimismo, se identificó que muchas de estas personas tienen cada vez menos tiempo para desempeñar sus actividades diarias o prefieren invertir su tiempo realizando nuevas actividades y por eso recurren o prefieren los servicios delivery al momento de comprar productos a través de páginas web o redes sociales. Por último, se identificó que muchas personas van a las tiendas de juegos de mesa para adquirir los productos, sin embargo, muchas veces pierden tiempo en ir a estos lugares por el tráfico en Lima o la distancia de sus casas a las tiendas. En base a esto, se decidió crear una tienda online para la venta exclusiva de juegos de mesa. Para poner en marcha el proyecto de la tienda online llamada Game Legend se hizo un análisis de la industria: clientes y potenciales clientes, proveedores en Lima, competencia directa e indirecta y otros factores externos como productos sustitutos. Además, se desarrollaron los siguientes planes: Plan Estratégico, Plan de Operaciones, Plan de Marketing, Plan de Recursos Humanos y Responsabilidad Social Empresarial y el Plan Financiero. Los cuales se enfocan en las estrategias necesarias para la viabilidad de este proyecto.
This research project consists of an online store of board games for people looking to get out of the routine and practice new forms of healthy and fun recreation, based on the research carried out in Metropolitan Lima, it was detected that some groups of people are looking for new ways to spend time with family or friends so many buy board games to have hours of healthy fun. Likewise, it was identified that many of these people have less and less time to carry out their daily activities or prefer to spend their time doing new activities and that is why they use or prefer delivery services when buying products through web pages or social networks. Finally, it was identified that many people go to the board games stores to acquire the products, however, many times they lose time in going to these places because of the traffic in Lima or the distance from their houses to the stores. Based on this, it was decided to create an online store for the exclusive sale of board games. To start the project of the online store called Game Legend, an industry analysis was made: customers and potential customers, suppliers in Lima, direct and indirect competition and other external factors such as substitute products. In addition, the following plans were developed: Strategic Plan, Operations Plan, Marketing Plan, Human Resources Plan and Corporate Social Responsibility and the Financial Plan. Which focus on the strategies necessary for the viability of this project.

Resumo: Detecção de textos em imagens é um problema que vem sendo estudado a várias décadas. Existem muitos trabalhos que estendem os métodos existentes para uso em análise de vídeos, entretanto, poucos deles criam ou adaptam abordagens que consideram características inerentes dos vídeos, como as informações temporais. Um problema particular dos vídeos, que será o foco deste trabalho, é o de detecção de legendas. Uma abordagem rápida para localizar quadros de vídeos que contenham legendas é proposta baseada em uma estrutura de dados especial denominada ritmo visual. O método é robusto à detecção de legendas com respeito ao alfabeto utilizado, ao estilo de fontes, à intensidade de cores e à orientação das legendas. Vários conjuntos de testes foram utilizados em nosso experimentos para demonstrar a efetividade do método
Abstract: Detection of text in images is a problem that has been studied for several decades. There are many works that extend the existing methods for use in video analysis, however, few of them create or adapt approaches that consider the inherent characteristics of video, such as temporal information. A particular problem of the videos, which will be the focus of this work, is the detection of subtitles. A fast method for locating video frames containing captions is proposed based on a special data structure called visual rhythm. The method is robust to the detection of legends with respect to the used alphabet, font style, color intensity and subtitle orientation. Several datasets were used in our experiments to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method

Resumo: Nosso objetivo, nesse trabalho, é o de fazer um estudo sobre o método do crivo. A motivação reside no desejo de aplicar essas ideias a uma situação particular. Dividimos nosso trabalho em três partes. Na primeira fornecemos apenas as definições e con- ceitos básicos. Na segunda apresentamos o principio da inclusão-exclusão que embora sendo algo bastante conhecido merece destaque especial dada a sua importância como ferramenta no nosso trabalho. Na terceira e última parte, fazemos uma contextualização histórica e uma descrição da evolução das ideias do crivo de Eratóstenes-Legendre. A escolha desse crivo, dentre tantos outros, foi feita tendo em vista dois pontos. O primeiro é que o crivo de Eratóstenes-Legendre é o mais simples dentre os crivos estudados na teoria dos crivos. Abstract: Our aim in this work is to make a study about the sieve method. The motivation lies in the intent of applying this idea in a particular situation. We splitted the study into three parts. The first part deals with definitions and basic concepts. In the second we present the principle of inclusion-exclusion while being something well known deserves special mention given its importance as a tool in our work. In the third and final part, we make a historical contextualization and a description of the evolution of the sieve Eratosthenes- Legendre ideas. The choice of sieve, among many others, has been made taking into account two points. The first is that the Eratosthenes-Legendre sieve is the simplest among the sieves studied the theory of sieves. The second point is related to the fact that this sieve provide the general idea of combinatorial sieve, since the more sophisticated sieves are extensions of its basic idea

Sedan 2011 finns entreprenörskap inskrivet i läroplanen för grundskolan. Mycket teori finns om entreprenören och entreprenörskap, men lite forskning finns som berör anställning av entreprenörer. Med den här kvalitativa studien ville vi bidra till ökad förståelse för om och hur entreprenören rekryteras till en traditionell anställning, där vi med traditionell anställning avsett entreprenören som arbetstagare. Studien genomfördes dels genom semistrukturerade intervjuer med två rekryterare och dels genom textanalys av nio platsannonser inom olika yrkesområden. Hela studien följer uppdelningen mellan egenskapsperspektivet respektive beteendeperspektivet. Dessa teman är valda med hänsyn tagen till de olika teoretiska inriktningarna kring entreprenörskap men också till olika ansatser inom rekryteringsteori. När vi påbörjade studien trodde vi att vi skulle mötas med en negativ inställning till att anställa entreprenörer. Studiens slutsats blev dock att entreprenören är eftertraktad att anställa, framför allt för dennes egenskaper, men att entreprenörskapsbegreppet ställer till en del praktiska problem för själva rekryteringen.
Since 2011, entrepreneurship is established in the Swedish curriculum for primary school. Much theory can be found on the entrepreneur and entrepreneurship. There is, however, not as much research available regarding employment of the entrepreneur. With this qualitative study, we strived to contribute to an extended understanding of if and how the entrepreneur is recruited to an employment. The study was carried out by partly semistructured interviews with two recruiters, and partly by text analysis of nine listings in different professions. The whole study follows a sectioning between the trait perspective and the behavior perspective. These themes were chosen in consideration of the different entrepreneurial theoretical orientations, but also in regard to different approaches within recruitment theory. When the study began, we thought that we would be met by a negative attitude against hiring entrepreneurs. The conclusion of the study, however, became that the entrepreneur is sought after to hire, especially for its characteristics, but that the entrepreneurial concept poses some practical problems for the recruitment itself.

This thesis explores the algebraic and geometric structure of the Legendre transform and its application in various field of mathematics and physics. Specifically linear transformation as a mathematical process and motivating it in terms related to phenomena in mathematics and physics. The Legendre transform provides a change of variables to express equations of the motion or other physical relationships in terms of most convenient dynamical quantities for a given experiment or theoretical analysis. In classical mechanics the Legendre transform generates the Hamiltonian function of a system from the Lagrangian function or vice versa. In thermodynamics the Legendre transform allows thermodynamic relationships to be written in terms of alternative sets of independent variables. Here we review the properties of Legendre transform and why it is so important in mathematics and physics.

Consagrados como disciplina há quase quatro décadas, os Estudos da Tradução ainda carecem de desenvolvimento em algumas áreas, a exemplo da legendação. Este trabalho insere-se neste espaço em que o tradutor ganha visibilidade aos olhos do público, investigando a legendação com o intuito de salientar sua relevância à área da tradução, em especial pela impossibilidade da associação com uma única teoria tradutória, pelas inúmeras interferências de ordem técnica sobre o processo tradutório e pela característica intersemiótica da obra fílmica. Examina-se também, por meio da análise da legendação do filme The Woods (EUA, 2006), o tratamento dado à tradução do legendador pelas empresas responsáveis pela legendação, já que o material traduzido efetivamente inserido no DVD difere da proposta do legendador. O acesso ao texto transcrito, ao traduzido pelo tradutor e à versão final inserida no DVD propicia a discussão das opções tradutórias de cada um e do respaldo que o profissional recebe, já que a legenda evidencia a presença do tradutor. Os trechos alterados serão agrupados e comentados de acordo com a característica da alteração. A proposta não é buscar por certo e errado, mas o enriquecimento da discussão do trabalho do profissional de tradução.
Enshrined as a discipline nearly four decades ago, Translation Studies still needs development in some areas, like subtitling. This piece of research fits into this place in which the translator gets visibility in the eyes of the public, investigating subtitling as an effort to emphasize its relevancy to the area of translation, especially because of the impossibility to relate subtitling to a single translation theory, due to the several technical interferences on the translational process of subtitling and the intersemiotic characteristic of the movies (audiovisual material). It also examines, through the analysis of the subtitles of the movie The Woods (USA, 2006), the treatment given to the subtitled translation by the companies responsible for the subtitles, since the material translated effectively inserted into the DVD differs from the proposal of the translator. The access to the transcription, the translation made by the freelance translator and the final version on the DVD supports de discussion of each translational option and the value of this professional, as the subtitle reinforce its existence. The subtitles that have been changed will be grouped and analyzed accordingly the characteristic of the modification. This is not a quest for what is right or wrong, but the enrichment of the discussion concerning the work of the professional of translation.

Abstract : This research sets out to analyse the rendition of fixed expressions (Moon, 1998) in dubbed and subtitled versions of the films Madagascar (2005) and Ice Age (2002), taking into account the asymmetrical relations between countries and languages. Asymmetrical relations are manifested by globalisation in its centrifugal and centripetal forces (Cronin, 2009) and have a translational counterpart in Venuti?s (1995) notions of domestication and foreignisation. The objective of the study is to verify how the translation of fixed expressions is dealt with in dubbing and subtitling methods in terms of domestication and foreignisation, which are considered means to undermine and reinforce the asymmetrical relations. A cross-analysis between dubbing and subtitling is carried out by means of parallel corpus (Baker, 1995). Contrasting dubbing and subtitling is relevant in a context of asymmetrical relations on account of a recent change in Brazilian public preference for dubbing over subtitling (Pesquisa Datafolha, 2013). Results show that the subtitled versions in the corpus, rather than the dubbed ones, are more prone to adopt foreignising strategies with regard to the translation of fixed expression. Additionally, there have been identified, in the subtitled versions of the films, translation instances that avoid the adoption of domestication strategies in spite of the lack of impediment. This seems to imply that, occasionally, the subtitled versions under scrutiny deliberately move away from target language fixed expressions.

Esta pesquisa se propõe a analisar as traduções de expressões fixas (Moon, 1998) em versões dubladas e legendadas dos filmes Madagascar (2005) e A Era do Gelo (2002), tendo em conta as relações assimétricas entre os países e línguas. As relações assimétricas manifestam-se pela globalização em suas forças centrífuga e centrípeta (Cronin, 2009) e tem contrapartida tradutória nas noções de domesticação e estrangeirização propostas por Venuti (1995). O objetivo da pesquisa é verificar como se dá a tradução de expressões fixas nos métodos de dublagem e legendagem em termos de domesticação e estrangeirização, que são considerados meios de atenuar e reforçar as relações assimétricas. A análise cruzada entre as versões dubladas e legendadas é realizada por meio de corpus paralelo (Baker, 1995). Contrastar dublagem e legendagem é relevante em um contexto de relações assimétricas por conta de uma recente mudança na preferência do público brasileiro da dublagem para a legendagem (Pesquisa Datafolha, 2013). Os resultados mostram que as versões legendadas no corpus, em detrimento das versões dubladas, são mais propensas a adotar estratégias estrageirizadoras no que diz respeito à tradução de expressões fixas. Além disso, foram identificados nas versões legendadas dos filmes, casos de traduções em que se evitam a adopção de estratégias domesticação apesar falta de impedimento. Isso parece sugerir que, ocasionalmente, as versões legendadas analisadas deliberadamente afastam-se das expressões fixas da língua-alvo.

A legendagem de programas audiovisuais tem merecido atenção renovada na área da pesquisa em Tradução, dado o incremento de acesso de filmes e seriados pela internet. Ao ocupar o profissional e também o leigo, que traduz legendas por hobby e na condição de fã, a legendagem de séries televisivas norte-americanas tem gerado materiais interessantes para estudo, também no âmbito da Terminologia. Mesmo com o crescente número de séries que usam terminologias específicas como pano de fundo (FROMM, 2011a), como as que se ocupam de temas médicos ou jurídicos, ainda não há muitos estudos sobre essa terminologia em tradução. As séries de ficção de tema sobrenatural, como as que tratam do universo de vampiros, lobisomens e bruxas, ou de ficção científica, por sua vez, parecem trazer um vocabulário com elementos bastante semelhantes às terminologias “tradicionais”, instaurando um vocabulário próprio relacionado a toda uma complexidade conceitual, pois constroem realidades particulares, comparáveis às realidades científicas. Nesse universo de discurso, segundo Barbosa (2005, 2006a, 2007, 2009), determinadas unidades lexicais funcionariam tanto como vocábulos quanto como termos. Levando isso em consideração, conhecer melhor esse tipo de material textual e, em meio a ele, as especificidades de sua “terminologia”, pode ajudar os tradutores brasileiros a se inserirem neste mercado de trabalho ou, ainda, a se estabelecerem como aqueles com maior familiaridade com a linguagem, com o vocabulário e com a tradução do “mundo das séries”. Este trabalho lidará, então, com um vocabulário não prontamente considerado como especializado por algumas correntes da Terminologia. Seu objetivo é propor bases teóricas e metodológicas para a elaboração de um glossário cujo público-alvo são os tradutores. No entanto, esse tipo de obra se baseia, por sua natureza, em procedimentos terminográficos para a compilação de um repertório de termos sem a pretensão de exaustividade (KRIEGER; FINATTO, 2004). Tomando como referencial teórico a Etnoterminologia, a Terminologia Cultural e a Terminologia Textual, aliadas a recursos e princípios da Linguística de Corpus, é oferecido como produto final um protótipo de glossário para tradutores de legendas do inglês para o português, utilizando como corpus os seriados True Blood e The Vampire Diaries em inglês e em português. Tal corpus foi analisado por meio do programa de análise lexical AntConc e de suas ferramentas, principalmente Word List, Keyword List e Concordance. Como parte do protótipo de glossário, foram desenhadas árvores de domínio para cada um dos seriados e elaboradas 18 fichas terminológicas como amostra. Nessas fichas, foram registradas informações encontradas no corpus sobre os termos selecionados, bem como especificidades lexicais e gramaticais desses textos. Ao final, foi possível mostrar que as unidades lexicais encontradas nos seriados de tema sobrenatural, por mais que se pareçam com vocábulos, estão em função de termo quando atualizadas nesse universo de discurso. Essa função designa a essas unidades lexicais um significado muito especializado, específico a esse contexto. Além disso, demostrou-se a produtividade de se adotar uma abordagem terminográfica ao universo de discurso dos seriados de tema sobrenatural.
The subtitling of audiovisual programs has received renewed attention in the area of translation research, due to the increase in the access to films and TV series through the Internet. As it engages professionals as well as laymen, who subtitle as a hobby and as fans, the subtitling of North American TV series has generated interesting materials for study, also within Terminology. Even with the increasing number of TV series that use specific terminology as background (FROMM, 2011a), such as those dealing with medical or legal issues, there are not many studies on this terminology in translation yet. Fictional TV series of supernatural theme, such as those dealing with the world of vampires, werewolves and witches, or of science fiction, in their turn, seem to bring vocabulary with elements quite similar to the “traditional” terminologies, setting up their own vocabulary related to a whole conceptual complexity, as they build particular realities, comparable to scientific realities. In this universe of discourse, according to Barbosa (2005, 2006a, 2007, 2009), certain lexical units would work as words and as terms as well. Considering this, knowing this kind of textual material better and, through it, the specifics of its “terminology”, may help Brazilian translators to insert themselves in this market, or even to establish themselves as the ones more familiar with the language, with the vocabulary and the translation of the “world of TV series”. This thesis will deal then with a vocabulary not readily considered as specialized by some Terminology theories. Its goal is to propose theoretical and methodological basis for the development of a glossary whose target audience is the translators. However, this type of work is based, in its nature, on terminographic procedures for the compilation of a term directory without aiming at exhaustiveness (KRIEGER; FINATTO, 2004). Taking as a theoretical framework Etnoterminology, Cultural Terminology and Textual Terminology, combined with resources and principles of Corpus Linguistics, it is offered as a final product a glossary prototype for subtitlers from English to Portuguese, using as a corpus the series True Blood and The Vampire Diaries in English and Portuguese. This corpus was analyzed using the lexical analysis program AntConc and its tools, especially Word List, Keyword List and Concordance. As part of the glossary prototype, domain trees were designed for each of the series and 18 terminological record sheets were produced as sample. In these sheets, information on the selected terms found in the corpus was recorded, as well as lexical and grammatical peculiarities of these texts. At the end, it was possible to show that the lexical units found in series of supernatural theme, no matter how much they might look like words, are in the function of terms when inserted in this universe of discourse. This function designates a very specialized meaning to these lexical units, specific to this context. In addition, the productivity of adopting a terminographic approach to the universe of discourse of TV series of supernatural theme was demonstrated.

'Legendary Metal Smiths and Early English Literature' is a study of Christian religious influence on the portrayal of a powerful technology, metallurgy, in Old English verse. Starting from the controversy over the supernatural role of metal smiths in a metrical Anglo-Saxon charm, it proceeds to explore the impact of Christian thought on attitudes to the metal-worker in late antiquity and early medieval Europe. Significant and contentious characterizations of the smith in the Cain legend, the lives of the saints, and legends of Christ are discussed in turn. A chapter on heroic verse and another on wonder-working discuss, among other topics, the theory that Anglo-Saxon metal smiths were regarded with fear and superstition. The thesis put forth by the author in the course of this survey is that the critical approach which explains the concern of Anglo-Saxon literature with smithcraft as little more than an irrational primitivism finds little support in the religious writing of the period. What requires explanation is not the view that metallurgy was a matter of Christian concern, but the assumption that it was not. While this study is primarily concerned with mapping literary themes, it is not confined to the world of the imagination. Holding that themes, in order to be appreciated, must be perceived, where possible, in the light of the historical conditions in which they flourished, it devotes part of its space to a consideration of the latter. It examines the role of the monastic movement in disseminating an idealistic view of industry; describes the achievements of Anglo-Saxon metal-working; and attempts to appreciate some of the real hardships faced by workers in the Anglo-Saxon forge. The insights gained from this approach lead ultimately to a new reading of the metrical Anglo-Saxon charm with which the study began, a reading which, rather than peering backwards into the pagan past, looks forward to subsequent and more familiar examples of the forge in literature.

O presente trabalho estuda as questões relacionadas à recepção de conteúdos audiovisuais, mediada por legendas. Utilizando a abordagem de estudo de caso, foi escolhido o filme O Caçador de Pipas, de Marc Forster (2008), a fim de analisar a reação do telespectador ao encontrar-se totalmente ou parcialmente dependente das legendas. A característica decisiva para a escolha do filme ocorreu devido às línguas originais presentes (pashto e inglês). Os sete participantes foram submetidos a três questionários e uma entrevista: questionário prévio, que procurou obter opiniões gerais a respeito da necessidade, gostos e desgostos dos participantes em relação a filmes legendados; questionário geral sobre o filme, buscando captar o entendimento global do filme apresentado; questionário sobre partes específicas do filme, analisando questões pontuais quanto à legendagem e recepção do conteúdo audiovisual. A entrevista, por sua vez, serviu para a triangulação dos resultados. A análise dos dados permitiu verificar algumas necessidades e consequências das legendas para o espectador, como esclarecer as falas ou desfazer uma falha de som que, em alguns momentos, se torna barreira para a absorção dos detalhes do filme; ou como aperfeiçoamento lingüístico em uma segunda língua, seja na pronúncia, seja na ampliação de vocabulário; ou, ainda, como meio incentivador de uma leitura peculiar. __________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
The present study examines the reception of audiovisual contents mediated by subtitles for Brazilian viewers. Using the case study approach, the film The Kite Runner, by Marc Forster (2008), was chosen to analyze the reaction of the viewer when fully or partially dependent on subtitles. The film was chosen because it contained two original languages (Pashto and English). The seven participants were submitted to three questionnaires and an interview: a preliminary questionnaire, to obtain general opinions regarding needs, tastes and participants' displeasures in relation to subtitled films; a general questionnaire about the film, to ascertain the global understanding of the film presented; a questionnaire about specific parts of the film, analyzing points relating to the subtitling and reception of the audiovisual content. The interview served to triangulate the results. The analysis of the data collected allowed us to verify certain viewer needs and subtitling consequences, like explaining the speech or compensating for soundtrack flaws that, at some moments, were a barrier to comprehension of the film’s details; or improving linguistic command in a second language, be it in terms of pronunciation, vocabulary enrichment; or to encourage further reading

Abstract:
Twenty nine new nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ligands have been prepared, and characterised. The ligands all contain a central arene core, to which are appended two or more heterocycles via spacer groups. Benzene, naphthalene, biphenyl, binaphthalene or triphenylene has been used as the central arene core, while the heterocycles used are pyridine, quinoline, 1 ,2,4-triazole, and benzotriazole. The coordination chemistry of the majority of these ligands has been investigated by their reactions with transition metals with the aim of constructing metallosupramolecular architectures. Such assemblies are constructed using the coordination bond as the major intermolecular interaction, as well as weaker secondary interactions including π-π stacking interactions and hydrogen bonds. The cyclopalladation chemistry some of these ligands, and of five previously prepared ligands, has also been investigated. In particular, a number of doubly palladated compounds containing six-membered chelate rings have been prepared. Such cyclopalladation reactions have been shown to be reversible. This, coupled with the appropriate reaction conditions, has allowed the regiochemistry of the products of the cyclopalladation reaction to be controlled in certain systems. Techniques used to characterise the ligands and complexes include NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, elemental analysis, and X-ray crystallography. The X-ray crystal structures of thirty-six complexes have been accurately determined, and the structures of two further complexes have been determined with less accuracy. The variety of ligands resulted in the preparation of a range of complexes of diverse structural types. The structures determined include one- and two-dimensional coordination polymers, a triple helicate, macrocycles, chelate complexes and supramolecular boxes. The triple helicate is the first constructed from trigonal metal termini. The polymers include a molecular ladder that is the first to contain a ligand as the T-connector and metals as the linear connectors.

A presente dissertação visa à análise das implicações da tradução do dialeto bávaro, assim como da linguagem não padrão em geral empregada no filme #Wer früher stirbt ist länger tot# / #Quem morre mais cedo, passa mais tempo morto#, do diretor Marcus Hausham Rosenmüller, lançado no ano de 2006. Visto que a legendação é um processo de tradução diferente da modalidade texto verbal - texto verbal, pressupõe-se que as próprias limitações inerentes a este processo são fatores que podem interferir na compreensão do texto fílmico. Assumindo a perspectiva que a linguagem empregada no filme delineia o caráter dos personagens, hipotetiza-se que, ao optar somente pelo uso pragmático da língua sem levar em conta os elementos sociolinguísticos e culturais marcados na língua fonte, pode ser afetada a identidade dialetal expressa por meio da religiosidade, da laconicidade e da expressividade da cultura bávara representada na obra. A análise das legendas e de suas implicações é realizada à luz das propostas de tradução de variantes linguísticas de Kolb (1999) e da tradução sobre uma perspectiva sociolinguística de Neubert (2009).

Na área de Estudos da Tradução (ET), pesquisa em tradução audiovisual tem abordado a tradução para filmes de uma forma que reforça a parcialidade que tem sido dada a esta atividade. Estes estudos parecem negligenciar a natureza lingüística da tradução de filmes concentrando-se principalmente em aspectos relacionados a fatores culturais da atividade da legendagem (Espindola, 2005), o ambiente audiovisual da legendagem (Nobre, 2002), aspectos técnicos envolvidos na tradução de filmes e programas de TV bem como fatores de audiência (Luyken et al., 1991 e Dries, 1995). Por mais importante que estes estudos sejam, eles deixam alguns aspectos intocados uma vez que omitem a dimensão lingüística das legendas. Devido ao fato da linguagem como um sistema modelador auxiliar na construção de significados no ambiente do filme - junto com outros tipos de sistemas semióticos, atenção direcionada à linguagem das legendas parece ser uma lacuna a ser preenchida. A partir de uma perspectiva lingüística, ET está na agenda de pesquisa de lingüística sistêmico-funcional há um longo tempo, porém somente recentemente é que Estudos da Tradução Audiovisual foram adicionados aos Estudos da Tradução Lingüístico-Sistêmico. Neste contexto e como tentativa de superar a parcialidade mencionada anteriormente, a presente pesquisa de doutorado dá atenção direta à linguagem dos diálogos falados e das legendas da Saga Guerra nas Estrelas (dirigida por George Lucas) concentrando esforços de pesquisa no estudo do personagem selecionado: Mestre Yoda, através da investigação da estrutura temática em nível oracional em ambas as instâncias, com o intuito de observar o papel de Temas marcados e não-marcados na construção do discurso do personagem. Os resultados obtidos evidenciam a contribuição da estrutura temática para conceber a representação de Yoda nos diálogos falados como um personagem sábio e poderoso da comunidade galáctica de Guerra nas Estrelas. Uma contribuição similar foi encontrada nas legendas onde a estrutura temática provou desempenhar papel crucial na construção do comportamento lingüístico de Yoda, indicativo da natureza de relação de poder existente entre ele e os outros personagens da Saga. Em ambos os casos, o discurso marcado emergiu como uma característica constante com Complemento e Predicador ocorrendo mais freqüentemente em posição temática. Tipicamente, quando o Tema em inglês era realizado por um Predicador sozinho com o finito em posição remática para marcar o discurso, um Complemento era usado para causar o mesmo efeito em resposta as possibilidades permitidas pelo sistema lingüístico do português brasileiro. Finalmente, a necessidade de se dar atenção direta a complexidade lingüística das legendas tornou-se evidente, uma vez que este tipo de análise provou ser possível de iluminar aspectos outrora desconsiderados - a análise lingüístico-sistêmico funcional levou à descoberta do linguajar característico de Yoda que media uma visão de mundo distinta.
