Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the factors affecting quality of work life (QWL) of teachers working in Higher Education Institutions. Design/methodology/approach A cross-sectional study was conducted by sampling 347 teaching faculty members through questionnaires. Findings Fair communication plays the strongest role and social networks have the weakest role in shaping the QWL in higher educational institutions (HEIs) of Pakistan. The relationship of social networks and QWL negates the Hofstede’s view of Pakistan society to a great extent. Research limitations/implications A cross-sectional data set is used for tapping a small sample size. The direct effects of four factors were considered for examination. The examination of indirect effects for the factors having weak effects is recommended. Practical implications Decision makers having intentions to improve QWL in HEIs must adopt procedural justice and effective communication channels; they should have high respect for employees and should help them to develop networks within the HEIs. Social implications Inter-relationships at workplace are hampering due to weak social networks. Originality/value The study is an important landmark in highlighting the factors that must be available for higher QWL of faculty members of public sector HEIs.

Abstract:
One of the main radio technologies that could be used for indoor localization is Ultra-wideband, (UWB). It is a short-range RF technology for wireless communication that can be leveraged to detect the location of people, devices, and assets with significant precision. But, it has a major limitation which is the need for a non-line-of-sight (NLOS) identification and mitigation approach to precise location a target in a hard indoor environment. The NLOS approach will complicate the positioning approach. The goals of this work are; i- for saving cost and time of installation of anchor nodes, the minimum required number of anchor nodes have been installed, ii- the accuracy of the created system should be compatible with most various indoor environments. In this work, we create a novel algorithm of Indoor positioning system named Enhanced Linearized Least Square (ELLS) using UWB technology without using an NLOS identification approach. We evaluate and validate the created system by implementing real experiments. The created system has an average positioning accuracy reaching about 0.45 𝑚2of mean square error in a hard environment. It outperforms most indoor positioning systems in the market with less complexity, cost, and more accuracy.

Abstract:
Most work on the asymptotic properties of least absolute deviations (LAD) estimators makes use of the assumption that the common distribution of the disturbances has a density that is both positive and finite at zero. We consider the implications of weakening this assumption in a number of regression settings, primarily with a time series orientation. These models include ones with deterministic and stochastic trends, and we pay particular attention to the case of a simple unit root model. The way in which the conventional assumption on the error distribution is modified is motivated in part by N.V. Smirnov's work on domains of attraction in the asymptotic theory of sample quantiles. The approach adopted usually allows for simple characterizations (often featuring a single parameter, γ), of both the shapes of the limiting distributions of the LAD estimators and their convergence rates. The present paper complements the closely related recent work of K. Knight.

Abstract:
Recent work on judgment and decision making has focused on how people preferentially use cues, or pieces of relevant information, that are easy to access when making decisions. In this article, we discuss a framework for understanding the ways that cues become accessible. We begin by identifying two components of cues and show how these components can become accessible during different parts a decision process. We highlight evidence for the use of accessible information and discuss implications for future research on heuristics.

Abstract:
In recent years, there has been increasing concern for wastewater system failure and identification of optimal set of remedial works requirements. So far, several methodologies have been developed and applied in asset management activities by various water companies worldwide, but often with limited success. In order to fill the gap, there are several research projects that have been undertaken in exploring various algorithms to optimise remedial works requirements, but mostly for drinking water supply systems, and very limited work has been carried out for the wastewater assets. Some of the major deficiencies of commonly used methods can be found in either one or more of the following aspects: inadequate representation of systems complexity, incorporation of a dynamic model into the decision-making loop, the choice of an appropriate optimisation technique and experience in applying that technique. This paper is oriented towards resolving these issues and discusses a new approach for the optimisation of wastewater systems remedial works requirements. It is proposed that the optimal problem search is performed by a global optimisation tool (with various random search algorithms) and the system performance is simulated by the hydrodynamic pipe network model. The work on assembling all required elements and the development of an appropriate interface protocols between the two tools, aimed to decode the potential remedial solutions into the pipe network model and to calculate the corresponding scenario costs, is currently underway.

Abstract:
This research aims to understand how teachers perceive control mechanisms embedded in the educational system in Poland. In the article, we analyse teachers and school administrators’ online discussions evoked by the decision of Polish Ministry of National Education to close schools in March 2020 in order to protect teachers and students from coronavirus infection. We show that management control mechanisms are crucial in understanding teachers and school administrators’ behaviour. On the one hand, direct forms of control frustrate and demotivate teachers. On the other hand, a combination of diverse forms of control makes teachers comply and continue working despite the growing will to rebel against the system. We argue that the COVID pandemic exposed previously existing problems; therefore, the article’s findings are also applicable beyond the pandemic context.

I have been privileged in recent years to be able to see the work of national church institutions from the perspective not only of a General Synod member, but also as a member of a modern trade union, which came into being in August 1994. It is one thing to be concerned with the role, status and conditions of service of the clergy, as a parish priest and as a member of a professional union—it is quite another to be made aware of the implications of change as they are viewed centrally, not the least of these being the cost of improved conditions of service.

Abstract:
Married women’s entrance into the market economy proceeded at a slow but steady pace between 1890 and 1910. That, at least, is the impression given by conventional census measures of the percentage with “gainful occupations,” which practically doubled in both the United States as a whole and in the heavily industrialized state of Massachusetts (see Table 1). This impression is misleading on at least two counts. Declines in self-reporting and enumerator bias may have overstated the increase in married women with gainful occupations. More important, dwindling opportunities for informal market activities, such as industrial homework, provision of services to boarders, and participation in a family farm or enterprise, may have countervailed increases in formal market participation. In Massachusetts, at least, married women’s specialization in non-market domestic labor probably increased.

Abstract This work deals with obstacles hindering a metaphysics of laws of nature in terms of dispositions, i.e., of fundamental properties that are causal powers. A recent analysis of the principle of least action has put into question the viability of dispositionalism in the case of classical mechanics, generally seen as the physical theory most easily amenable to a dispositional ontology. Here, a proper consideration of the framework role played by the least action principle within the classical image of the world allows us to build a consistent metaphysics of dispositions as charges of interactions. In doing so we develop a general approach that opens the way towards an ontology of dispositions for fundamental physics also beyond classical mechanics.

Abstract:
The relation between authentic leadership (AL) and conflict management is a topic that has not been extensively researched and merits further empirical examination. In this study, two hypotheses were tested: first, whether AL is positively correlated with active constructive conflict (ACC) behaviors, and second, whether the conflict management styles (CMSs) of the organization moderate the relationship between AL and ACC behaviors. Partial least square structural equation analysis was used to examine the responses of 65 leadership participants in a survey of management styles. The results supported the hypotheses. A statistically significant relationship was found between AL, as measured by the Authentic Leadership Questionnaire, and ACC behaviors, as measured by Thomas–Kilmann Instrument; CMSs, as measured by the Rahim Organizational Conflict Inventory, moderated this relationship. The implications of these findings are discussed in detail.

Such provision may also be the most appropriate for other categories of handicap, disability or disadvantage. There is still a tendency for the community at large to underestimate the potential of handicapped young people for development. Research, not generally well known and therefore not acted upon, shows that despite poor initial performance, many intellectually handicapped people show substantial improvement with learning.

Abstract:
Steganography is a technique to improve the security of data, which is by inserting messages or confidential information using a medium called the host or carrier or cover. A wide variety of digital media can be used as a host, among others audio, image, video, text, header, IP datagram, and so forth. For audio steganography, the embedded audio is called stego-audio. Steganography can be cracked by using steganalysis. By exploiting the weaknesses of each steganography method. Many steganography method has been developed to increase its performance. This work proposed audio steganography scheme called Modified Enhanced Least Significant Bit (MELSB) which is modified version of Enhanced Least Significant Bit (ELSB). This method using Modified Bit Selection Rule to increase SNR and robustness of stego-audio. SNR result after applying MELSB scheme is increased. MELSB scheme also increase robustness of stego-audio. MELSB still work fine until amplification level 1.07. MELSB also work fine against noise addition better than ELSB and LSB. It give BER and CER with value 0 at SNR 33 dB. MELSB work fine in real-time condition on 802.11n WLAN if there is no transcoding and noise addition between sender’s and recipient’s computer.

Abstract This paper investigates facework and identity construction on a pro-community water fluoridation Facebook page, drawing on rapport management (Spencer-Oatey 2000) and Culpeper’s (1996, 2010, 2011) taxonomy of impoliteness in English. In contrast to previous work on conflictual political talk on social media, which focuses largely on right/left or socially conservative/progressive polarised topics, it addresses discourse on a topic where conflict is between factions aligned with or against the scientific establishment. The paper shows members of an activist group engaging in face-aggravating behaviour against an ideologically opposed commenter. Even when they profess to be educating the commenter, the core goals of their behaviour are enhancing their own quality and identity face within the group by antagonising the outsider; participants construct an expert identity through performing superior intelligence and education, expressed through displays of scientific knowledge and creative forms of linguistic impoliteness.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT This article explains the features of differential data that make them attractive, their shortcomings, and the situations for which they are best suited. The use of differential data is ubiquitous in the seismological community, in which they are used to determine earthquake locations via the double-difference method and the Earth’s velocity structure via geotomography; furthermore, they have important applications in other areas of geophysics, as well. A common assumption is that differential data are uncorrelated and have uniform variance. We show that this assumption is well justified when the original, undifferenced data covary with each other according to a two-sided exponential function. It is not well justified when they covary according to a Gaussian function. Differences of exponentially correlated data are approximately uncorrelated with uniform variance when they are regularly spaced in distance. However, when they are irregularly spaced, they are uncorrelated with a nonuniform variance that scales with the spacing of the data. When differential data are computed by taking differences of the original, undifferenced data, model parameters estimated using ordinary least squares applied to the differential data are almost exactly equal to those estimated using weighed least squares applied to the original, undifferenced data (with the weights given by the inverse covariance matrix). A better solution only results when the differential data are directly estimated and their variance is smaller than is implied by differencing the original data. Differential data may be appropriate for global seismic travel-time data because the covariance of errors in predicted travel times may have a covariance close to a two-sided exponential, on account of the upper mantle being close to a Von Karman medium with exponent κ≪12.

Abstract:
The success of the banking industry in a crisis such as the Covid pandemic is highly dependent on employee performance. Employee performance in banking companies will increase employee efficiency and productivity. Employee performance improvement can be formed through accuracy in Work Placement and providing Work Motivation. Work Placement and employee motivation to improve performance are still debated in previous studies. Based on previous research gaps, this study aims to determine the effect of Work Placement and Work Motivation on Employee performance and to determine the effect of Work Placement on Employee performance through Work Motivation in employees of a government bank in Kediri, East Java, Indonesia. The number of respondents in this study was 58 people who were obtained by using the saturated sampling technique for employees. The data collection method used a questionnaire with PLS (Partial Least Square) analysis tool. The results of this study indicate that employee placement and work motivation influence the employee performance of a bank company. However, the Work Motivation variable as a moderating variable cannot be proven because there is no influence between the Work Placement variable on Work Motivation. The next researcher can retest and develop the concepts used in this research to contribute to the development and renewal of management science.

Abstract:
The Covid-19 outbreak has forced various organizations to adjust work designs to comply with health protocols. Flexible work arrangement is a model that is widely used, including flextime and work from home. This study analyzes the impact of flexible work arrangements on affective commitment, job satisfaction, organizational citizenship behavior, and work engagement, which lead to employee happiness. A total of 405 respondents who work in local governments in Indonesia participated in an online survey using the snowball sampling technique. Data were analyzed using partial least squares. This study found a significant effect of flexible work arrangements on affective commitment and organizational citizenship behavior. It means that employees perceive a flexible work arrangement policy as an organizational effort to protect employees from Covid-19. Thus, it makes employees showing their affective commitment and willingness to have organizational citizenship behavior. In addition, job satisfaction, organizational citizenship behavior, and work engagement have been shown to affect employee happiness. This finding has implications for leaders to develop flexible work arrangements as alternative work designs, especially during times of crises such as a pandemic. Further research recommendations are emphasized to examine other flexible work arrangements according to contextual needs.

Abstract:
COVID-19 has been the biggest crisis of our times. Never before has been the entire world and each and every individual been impacted at this scale but when impacts are large, changes are too. The fear of infection forced all of us to work remotely from our home. It was the test of our technology and a mass experiment of Work From Home (WFH). Our research study aims to explore the changing behavior and mentality towards WFH and gauge it's various physical, mental and social impacts. The research aims to study the differences in perception of WFH by different gender, income levels, education levels and age groups. We intend to explore if there is any relationship between travel time and WFH and reverse migration and WFH and further, if there is any room for the option of taking a pay cut. This research paper is based on extensive primary research survey on 100 participants conducted through Google Forms and the further analysis done through cross tabulation and graphical methods. The research sample was adequately representative of varied socioeconomic strata s and had significant people from both gender, different income and education levels. The research brought forward some interesting insights. More than 75% of workers want to continue with remote work at least some of the time. Youth dislikes hybrid and wants either completely remote or work from office. People in age group 25-40 are least willing to resort to only work from office and 41-60 are least willing to resort to remote work. Males prefer working from home more than females. Increase in income strongly increases the preference for hybrid work. Those who spend large amount of time in traveling strongly prefer work from home. Relocation is a favorable decision for most but pay cut isn’t an option. Work from home has improved productivity, relations, sleep and body but with a pinch of loneliness.

Abstract:
This investigation aimed to determine whether the physical work capacity of nonanemic athletes could be improved when plasma ferritin concentrations of below 30 nglml were raised at least 15 ng/ml. The experimental group consisted of 15 training athletes, each of whose plasma ferritin concentration was less than 30 ng/ml (mean andSDof 19.8 ±8.4 nglml). In a control group of 16, each was measured with a plasma ferritin concentration of more than 40 ng/ml (mean andSDof 83.3 ±37.6 ngfml). All participated in submaximal and maximal tests for aerobic and anaerobic power. Following iron supplementation, plasma fenitin concentration in each experimental subject increased by at least 15 nglml to more than 30 ng/ml, to a new mean of 46.3 ±15.5 ng/ml. The performance measures were also repeated, but no significant overall effects were associated with the increased plasma ferritin concentrations. These data provide no sound evidence that physical work capacity of athletes is enhanced when plasma ferritin concentrations of around 20 ng/ml are increased by at least 15 ng/ml.

Abstract:
To scholars of labor and working-class history, police pose a problem—though, one less grave than the problem they pose to contemporary life in the United States, where roughly 10 percent of all homicide victims, and fully one-third of all people killed by strangers, die at police hands. How should police be categorized, and are they worthy subjects for the field? They are workers, of course, but they are also front-line agents of state repression and shock troops for capital. They remain robustly unionized, at least by US standards, but their unions are regressive and politically conservative, more concerned with shielding cops from accountability than with building solidarity. As individuals, many hail from working-class communities of color, but as a social and political category, their effect is to rationalize, reproduce, and fortify axes of racial and class difference. Their labor power is undoubtedly appropriated to produce surplus value, but is the exploitation they suffer superseded—or, to use a newly vexed word, “trumped”—by the work they do as exploiters?

Abstract:
Work stress is related to the perception of parental skills in working parents, it is a cross-sectional, associative study with correlational predictive design (Ato, López & Benavente, 2013), 177 parents participated (55.7% women), who worked at least 30 hours per week and who have children between 3 and 12 years old. The instruments used were the Inventory of the demands-control-support model (Rosario-Hernández & Rovira, 2016) and the Perceived Parental Competence Scale (Vera-Vásquez, Zaragoza-Tafur & Musayón-Oblitas, 2014). The results found show significant and positive correlations between the dimension of support with assumption of the role and shared leisure (.27). In the same way, the support dimension is positively related to school involvement (.28); as well as the dimension of control with assumption of the role and shared leisure (.22). A positive and moderate correlation was also found between work demands and hours worked (.34). It has been possible to compare the results with previous studies that reaffirm the idea that due to the amount of work commitments, the parents' stay at home is more difficult. In conclusion, people who perceive stress in their work will have a lower perception of parental competences, since they do not find a balance between the functions of both roles.

Abstract:
Weighted least squares polynomial approximation uses random samples to determine projections of functions onto spaces of polynomials. It has been shown that, using an optimal distribution of sample locations, the number of samples required to achieve quasi-optimal approximation in a given polynomial subspace scales, up to a logarithmic factor, linearly in the dimension of this space. However, in many applications, the computation of samples includes a numerical discretization error. Thus, obtaining polynomial approximations with a single level method can become prohibitively expensive, as it requires a sufficiently large number of samples, each computed with a sufficiently small discretization error. As a solution to this problem, we propose a multilevel method that utilizes samples computed with different accuracies and is able to match the accuracy of single-level approximations with reduced computational cost. We derive complexity bounds under certain assumptions about polynomial approximability and sample work. Furthermore, we propose an adaptive algorithm for situations where such assumptions cannot be verified a priori. Finally, we provide an efficient algorithm for the sampling from optimal distributions and an analysis of computationally favorable alternative distributions. Numerical experiments underscore the practical applicability of our method.

Abstract:
Motivated and disciplined employees are an essential element in the success of any organization. Their attitude to work determines what the final result will be and how quickly the organization will achieve its planned goals. At the same time, the organizational environment affects employees' functional behaviour, tendencies, and motives. This study examines the effect of work environment and attitude on employees' performance through work motivation. The sample of this study is 108 employees from the Directorate General of Hindu Community Guidance and the Directorate General of Buddhist Community Guidance at the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. Data for analysis were collected by the questionnaire method. Testing the data in this study used the SEM (Structural Equation Modeling) statistical analysis tool Partial Least Square (PLS) method through the SmartPLS 3.0 application. The obtained results show that all the factors accepted by the researchers significantly positively impact employees' performance. This study recommends that government organizations pay more attention to their employees, namely: a) to make the workspace arrangement so that it customized to the needs of the employees; b) superiors should communicate more with their subordinates to solve work problems; c) it is advisable to combine the methods of punishments and incentives to increase employees' discipline. Since work motivation affects employee performance, organizations should keep paying attention to employee motivation to sustain employee performance. The role of work motivation is to mediate the work environment or attitude's direct effect on increasing employee performance.
