Full textThe new made dying man leads to a new death staging which can be expressed by an euthanasia request, but which means in fact, a revolt against a technicoscientifical medecine. This medecine invented in utopias in the XVIth century wants to realise the myth of immortality, transforming utopia into ideology and totalitarism. We dream of a perferct health, a long life without pain, the new biomedecine pretends to do it. But man have to pay, he becomes a biopatient living in a body he does not recognize. Politics use biomedecine to make up their mind, and justice tries to fight against it to preserve patient’s rights. Dying man is not heard by anybody, he is informed, he must consent, he is an economical man who must suscribe policies. But time is too short for him to live anymore, man has to be alive or dead, there is no time for dying. He is hopeless now and in the future, even in heaven. How can he manage his death as long as he does not know what means to live ? All he knows is that nobody has de right to decide for him of his death conditions

Full textThe objective of the thesis work is to study the magnetic field configuration for faculae, active regions, filaments and initiation of solar eruptive events, flares and CMEs. Data obtained coordinated campaigns with THEMIS, Hinode and other instruments have allowed us to study faculae, filaments and active regions. The polarimetry analysis of THEMIS/MTR and Hinode/SOT data gives consistent results using UNNOFIT or MELANIE inversion codes. It allows us to detect fine vertical flux tubes in faculae. Using active regions magnetic vector map as the boundary conditions, we constructed the 3 D magnetic field structure of active regions with a nonlinear force-free field optimization method. The force and torque in the observed vector fields have been minimized to construct a consistent bottom boundary condition for the nonlinear force-free field model. Twisted magnetic flux ropes along the polarity inversion line have been evidenced. Conditions related to shear and twist of flux ropes have been discussed in the frame of flare and eruption initiation and developement

Full textWith the conception of time as a guiding principle, the object of my research is the calendar, the paradigmatic (or calendrical) rites and the mythology of the Mixe Indians of Oaxaca, Mexico. My principal interest is to know the continuity of the pre-Hispanic Mixe religion in its nowadays, catholic, character. Some questions guide this research : which are the pre-Hispanic religious aspects (calendar, myths and rites) that have survived and why? Why have the rituals of the annual calendar been emptied of meaning? What have they become? What role has the non-adjustment of the calendar played? What is the real importance of the first and second solar passage in the zenith? The Holy Cross festival envelopes an ancient sowing festival, or does it only envelope the sowing? On the basis of the existence of the divinatory and annual calendar and a corpus of myths and some rituals, my initial hypothesis was that Mixe religion has survived very close to the pre-Hispanic sources and that she was very little influenced by Catholicism? This research shows that the biggest continuity is to be found in both the divinatory calendar and sacrifice as flexible systems that have learned to coexist with the official religion. The myths, real survivors from the past, are vehicles of an ideology strongly attached to the Mesoamerican thought, but they have lost their social and ritual meaning. Concerning the calendrical rites, Catholicism has been massively imposed, permitting little room for the contingent prolongation, not structural, as some specialist believe : because they are pragmatic and millenarian rites (sowing, harvest, sacrifice) that have never paid attention to the irritating complications of a ritual calendar without adjustment that kept on wandering off the year

Full textThis reading of tristan corbiere's works, initially focused on their themes, aims at showing how the son withdraws from his father's corrupt sun world and takes refuge in the poetics of sleep which, rejecting the traditional poetic pattern, as well as the status peculiar to authors, basically shows through three figures : inversion, repetition and regression, whereas the poet himself keeps in the background to the benefit of the characters who are the only speakers. From the example of tristan corbiere, the third part intends to ponder on the links there are between writing, image and sound

Full textUnder cover of the dynastic conflict that causes hundred years war the recovery endeavour leads by Charles the fifth ends at the instituting of the modern state. The sun as a symbol of christ and an imperial sign established by a long tradition starts its raising in the capetians' area. It is supposed to bring, according to Malachy, « the recovery within its beams », the recovery of the kingdom and the one of christendom. The cosmological and mystical image, placing the king in the context of world domination and in relation to god, moves irresistibly around a milleniarist meanign in the sixteenth centuty. It offsets the precariousness of royal power grappling with factions. Utopia takes possession of it. But the emblem means already less the imperial patronage that the king of france would like to exerce on others european states than his messianic potentialities. When the supranational views of absolutism appears thwarted by the facts the symbol declines. The metaphor becomes paradoxical, it express something like pessimism and loses for a long time its political efficiency

Full textThis thesis provides an analysis of the processes that led to the emergence of a new scientific object, the Sun. It underscores, over a long period from 1820 to 1930, how these processes led to a reorganization of scientific disciplines and to the corresponding transformation of scientific practices. We argue that thermodynamics provided the first theoretical framework in which a genuine solar physics could be developed. Before that, the status of this new scientific object remained ill-defined, suspended between experimental sciences and observational sciences, due to the division of scientific disciplines according to their objects and their method. On the basis of many observational and experimental techniques developed in the first part of the century, Hervé Faye and Angelo Secchi respectively offered, in the 1860s, the first rational syntheses about the physical constitution of the Sun. These holist and qualitative theories, representative of a Humboldtian style, soon appeared to lead to a dead-end. Progress in instrumentation, especially with the work of Samuel Langley and his bolometer, pursued in the laboratory through the physics of black body, led Arthur Eddington to a new approach based on mathematical model. His work gave the impetus to a new branch of theoretical astrophysics. At this time, this new approach not only legitimated the extrapolation of the laws of physics to the stars, but also transformed the stars into genuine natural laboratories. Thus, through the complex history, we follow how the Sun, once thought as being outside of the laboratory's reach, became itself construed as a laboratory

Full textThe objectives of this thesis are, first of all, to make an inventory of ground-based observations of the solar diameter variations, not only temporal but also latitudinal. These last variations reflect surface distortions which are induced by the underlying physical properties (shearing, friction). The quality of ground-based measurements depends on the state of the atmospheric turbulence, which affects the precision. Our team is thus engaged in the construction of a microsatellite, PICARD, of which one of its main objectives is the data analysis algorithms that are necessary to achieve the required high degree of precision. The solar diameter measurements being photometric, any contamination of the solar limb due to the presence of surface magnetic phenomena, such as spots or faculae, affects the precision of the measurements. My work consisted in establishing an algorithm for an automatic control of these phenomena at the solar edge, algorithm which will be then introduced into the future PICARD Date processing. In order to establish this algorithm, a specific and versatile instrumentation, MIRESOL, has been developed. In parallel, in order to physically explain the solar distortions, I established a new theory, based on the thermal wind. Lastly, a final chapter exposes preliminary calculations concerning the possible links between the variations of the solar diameter and the global temperature of the Earth. We show that there is undoubtedly a connection which is through the luminosity variations of the Sun

Full textThe magnetic field in the quiet solar chromosphere is concentrated along the lanes of the super-granular network. From this chromospheric network magnetic funnels emerge, and rapidly expand with height through the transition region and finally fill the wholecorona. In this context We examined properties of line profiles from the solar corona acquired with the UV spectrometer SUMER on board SOHO. We establish that the maximum outflow at low corona temperatures does not appear in the centre of the network but rather near network boundaries. Furthermore the maximum blue-shift seems to appear in the dark regions in line intensity from the corona. For very low intensities, correlations reveals a lack of energy to either accelerate the plasma or produce any detectable radiation. The absence of magnetic field concentration in these regions seems to confirm the lack of energy. To study the properties of such magnetic funnels and the role of the coronal heating, we employed a new 2D MHD time dependent model including the solar atmosphere all the way from the chromosphere to the corona. These results indicate that the maximumoutflow is not to be found in the very center of the funnel but in the vicinity of the center for one of the heating function, this is not thecase of the second. The model directly relate for the first time the form of the heating function to the thermodynamic and spectral properties of the plasma in a funnel

Full textThis thesis proposes a new forward modeling method of the streamer belt, the main structure of the solar corona. This method provides both qualitative and quantitative results, and take into account the time evolution of the corona. It begins with the computation of the magnetic field at the source surface at a given time, required to locate the streamer belt. A simple geometric model of electron density is used to describe the streamer belt. The full 3D electron density is represented by an octree compressed form allowing a non uniform sampling of the 3D space, allowing a gain in memory space and in time computation. Radiance images are computed using a ray-tracing algorithm including the Thomson scattering. The time evolution of the corona is simulated by 9 octrees, representing 9 different configurations of the magnetic field during a full rotation of the solar corona (Carrington rotation). The method ends by a fitting process of the electron density parameters. The whole method is applied to simulate the streamer belt during minimum and maximum activity periods. Resulting images are compared to LASCO-C2 observations, a coronagraph onboard SOHO spacecraft. They allows to determine new models of electron density and to study the temporal evolution of the solar corona

Full textThis thesis aims to highlight a new vision on the main physical characteristics of the Sun. Before the development of astrophysics, the study of a star mainly concerned its geometrical properties. The accurate measurement of the solar diameter was carried out since the antiquity and represents one of the oldest problems in astrophysics. Part of this thesis is devoted to the study of the solar diameter and its variation over time. One of the objectives is to determine whether the diameter of the Sun varies with the solar activity. Data acquired by the PICARD mission instruments were used to try to answer this question. This thesis also deals with the absolute determination of the solar oblateness and its variation during the cycle 24. This study was based on the use of the measurements acquired by two space-based telescopes (PICARD/SODISM and SDO/HMI). The solar oblateness measurements are important and allow to validate the physical hypotheses implemented in the solar models. This thesis also consists to determine the absolute value of the total solar irradiance and its variability over time. The total solar irradiance is an essential parameter for all climate models. Its accurate determination is therefore fundamental. The absolute value of the total solar irradiance was obtained from the measurements carried out by the PICARD/SOVAP radiometer during the solar cycle 24. The last chapter of this thesis is devoted to the study of the solar irradiance in the ultraviolet and its variation during the solar cycle 24. This study is based on the measurements carried out by the SOLAR/SOSLPEC spectrometer on board the International Space Station. The variations of the ultraviolet radiation during a solar cycle (10% at 200 nm for a strong solar cycle) are much higher than the variations of the total solar irradiance (0.1%). The accurate determination of the ultraviolet solar irradiance is therefore very important. It is also increasingly evident that the variations of the solar irradiance in the ultraviolet play a significant role in the chemistry of the Earth's atmosphere and climate. The results obtained during this thesis show the interests to perform accurate measurements in the ultraviolet during a solar cycle of about 11 years. Through this work, we bring a new perspective with respect to the absolute value of the main solar parameters

Full textThe 17th century measurements of the solar diameter show values which are of about 10’’ (0,5 % of the diameter) larger than the present ones. The enlargement is smaller (3’’) for the measurements performed during the 19th century. A question is : has the Sun reduced its diameter over the past three centuries, or is the reason of the difference located in the methods or the instruments employed during that period ? A comparison of about thirty series of measurements, obtained at various epochs, together with about 900 measurements in a similar way as they had been made in the past, show the necessity of instrumental corrections and among them, the effect of diffraction. When taken into account, one can consider the homogenized database over three centuries, which is not showing a sensible secular variation of the solar diameter, which value at 1 AU is two times 960,0’’ ± 0,1’’

Full textThis doctorate is composed of three parts (in 398 pages) : I - The Sun as a natural phenomen : The observation of the sky had provoked to the Ancient Greeks, from the beginning, religious and philosophical feelings, under the principe of the recognition between the macrocosme and microcosme. Gradually the astronomy coming out of the astrology developed through the archaic poetry, later the philosophy, and at the end through the scientific study of the celestial bodies mouvements. II - The Sun in the human life : According to the principles of the first part, we studied the religious aspects (the Sun as a god, as a distinct figure - the Sun's face, the Sun's cults) and the manifestations in the every day life (calendars, meteorological effects, apotelesmatic astronomy, astrology). III - The Sun into the human representations (literature - arts) : It's a panoramic view of the various aspects of the Sun into the ancient Greek civilisation and culture which came out of a deel clear Greek origin

Full textThe portrayal of Roman Antiquity in narrative fiction must be understood in the framework of a collective unconscious which may suggest the existence of a "Latinity" myth. We intend to study Latinity as a historically-dated image, born from both the rise of historical sciences in the nineteenth century and the development of historical fiction. We worked to put together a corpus which brings to light the many ways in which Latinity is integrated into fiction, in order to distinguish between variations and constants in this imagined antiquity. This corpus consists of, on the one hand "The Last Days of Pompeii" by Edward Bulwer- Lytton, "Acté" by Alexandre Dumas, "Arria Marcella" by Theophile Gautier, "Der Falsche Nero" by Lion Feuchtwanger ; and on the other hand "The Last of the Valerii" by Henry James, "Gradiva" by Wilhelm Jensen, "La Bataille de Pharsale" by Claude Simon and "Albucius" by Pascal Quignard. These two categories – stories set in ancient times and stories set at the time of writing – involve identical narrative mechanisms (interactions between history and fiction, the treament of sources, the treatment of time). The analysis of this corpus ultimately points to a number of constants in the representation of Antiquity, including the archaeological motif, the writing of exoticism and alterity and the image of the Golden Age. It is the articulation of these constants around the recurring idea of Origin that allows us to demonstrate the existence of a myth of Latinity. We intend to explore how nineteenth and twentieth-century European fiction appears as a fantasy historical archive through a cross-disciplinary study of historical perspective, history of literature, and the personal literary appropriation of antiquity by writers

Full textFor solar physics, there exist key parameters, which permit validation of the Sun models operation. Among these parameters are, the diameter, the asphericity, and the shape of the limb. The measurement of the solar diameter was undertaken since the middle of the XVIIth century. Continued until now by various instruments placed at the ground, under stratospheric balloons or in orbit, the set of results does not present coherence. We have analyzed the possible sources of these disagreements. Among these are the instrumental characteristics and the processing methods. Algorithms were developed to process the solar images which, applied to the data of the Solar Disk Sextant (SDS) instrument, showed their precision and their effectiveness. This work permitted to define a strategy of measurement and processing useful for the PICARD mission that will be launched in orbit by the of 2008

Full textThis thesis is a contribution work to the study of the dynamics of sub-surface layers of the Sun using the actual long-term high resolution helioseismic data. The inner solar structure has also been studied in the light of the new estimates of solar chemical heavy element abundances which are currently one of the most debated issues in the field of solar interior modelling. Findings in this topic concern the low degree acoustic modes that turned out to be sensitive to the change ion the solar abundances. Notably, the new estimates of solar abundances lead to conflicting calculations of the characteristics of these modes with the observation. Ring diagram analysis of solar Doppler images has been used to infer the sub-photospheric horizontal velocity flows. The sensitivity of this technique has been studied regarding the mapping of solar images and the appropriate geometrical projection has been inferred. Moreover, the impact of solar modelling on the inversion procedure leading to the internal flows has been studied. Seven years of continuous GONG data corresponding to the declining phase of solar cycle 23 have been analyzed using the ring diagram method to infer long-term variations of horizontal flow fields (meridional and zonal flows) in latitude, longitude, and depth. Many interesting behaviours of the flows have been found such as the acceleration of the meridional flow and the dominance of the dynamics of the southern hemisphere relative to the northern one. The radial gradient of solar rotation has also been studied in detail showing an unusual behaviour of this gradient that appeared at the beginning of the long minimum period of solar cycle 23
