Abstract:
Pediatricians are familiar with congenital cleft palates and those occurring as a part of a multisystem abnormality. We have encountered a child with a cultural "iatrogenic" cleft palate. The patient is a 5-year-old girl who appeared normal until 4 months of age, at which time she became febrile and had difficulty breathing as a result of an upper respiratory tract infection. She was not attended to by a physician, but a uvulectomy, supposedly to prevent respiratory distress, was performed by a laywoman considered by the villagers to be a "specialist" in the procedure. Following the uvulectomy, the infant experienced feeding difficulty, choking on solid and liquid foods.

Full text
Abstract:
A review of the relationship between anticonvulsant medications and tics is presented. Data on 5 patients in whom anticonvulsants, either caused tics or exacerbated existing tic disorders is discussed. Discontinuation of the medication resulted in a decrease in the frequency of tickings in all patients. The effects of anticonvulsants on the reticular system are discussed. It is felt that it may be important for clinicians to consider carefully the use of barbiturate anticonvulsants, especially phenobarbital, in children with tics or a family history of tics. Tic disorders caused or exacerbated by exposure to anticonvulsant medications appear to be more common than previously reported, and in some patients the tics may not remit with discontinuation of the medication.

Abstract:
Liver abscess is a suppurative lesion in the liver formed as a result of invasion and multiplication of microorganisms which gain access by entering directly from an injury through the blood vessels or by the biliary ductal system/ septicemia, direct infection latrogenic & cryptogenic. It can be diagnosed by comparing the lab values with the diseased condition such as hemoglobin (10.9g/dl), neutrophils (83), ESR (120mm), Serum albumin (3.4g/dl), ALP (245U/L), Gamma GT (347U/L), prothrombin time (25.2 seconds), APTT (37.9 seconds).By performing the above tests, we have confirmed that the patient was suffering from liver abscess.
