Full textMachine tools enable the industry to shape almost any material by a variety of methods. Lathes are one of the most common machines to cut circular parts with precision and accuracy. And the spindle of a lathe can be entitled as the most critical mechanical component which makes the cutting process possible. A lathe spindle rotates the workpiece to be cut against a stationary rigid cutting tool, therefore removing material through the contact edge. In this thesis, a spindle is aimed to be designed which complies with a set of specifications defined. These specifications consists of performance requirements such as speed and power, dimensional constraints for space and bore diameter, and component types which must be used, such as for the motor.Based on the performance requirements, a maximum loading case with cutting parameters is defined. With these cutting parameters, cutting forces acting to the material from at the contact point with the cutting tool are calculated. A built-in motor with sufficient power and speed specifications is selected based on the maximum cutting forces and speed requirements. A preliminary design is made up by selecting bearings, bearing arrangements and shaft material. With static and dynamic analysis conducted on the preliminary design through analytical models and FEM, the behavior of the spindle is investigated separately under the cutting forces and during the rotation. Within an allowable range, optimization is made on the bearing span distances which are the support locations for the spindle.Following the verification and optimization of the preliminary design, the final detail design of the spindle is made. The final design includes the design of all the necessary parts, by taking the manufacturability, assemblability, sealing design, a system for speed and position measurements, cable paths and more necessary points into account. Ultimately, a spindle which meets the requirements and specifications successfully is designed as the expected outcome of this thesis.

Abstract The design and manufacture of the traditional flat-bed lathe in Taiwan has learned from Japanese manufacture technology. It has been focused on low price products due to market trend but relatively low benefits. Most lathe spindle are designed to be taper roller type bearing which has no any other characteristics except low price. Platform lathe of Taiwan cannot compete with lathe products from European Union, not to mention the high-price products. The high-price products are mostly sold to the America and Europe for farming, household, and production lines. The objective of this research is to develop high-level and high-quality main shaft for lathe.

In the process of making the machine tool, the spindle performance is the key factor that affects the quality and efficiency of the cutting process. From the perspective of the designers, test analysis is the basis to verify the design’s pros and cons and a reference to design changes that can be used as a reference for end users to purchase the machine equipment. In this thesis, the experiment for the spindle of the lathe is studied. Measured errors from the experiment are carried out for the action of compensation and design of structural behavior. The spindle impacts on the quality of geometric accuracy and roughness is eliminated effecting in the lathe processing. The reason for this study is to figure out the geometric accuracy and surface roughness for the turning of the machine that did not meet the expected standard. Several experiment set up detection methods are developed, including the spindle idle vibration, spindle rotation accuracy, spindle thermal deformation, and static stiffness. Different experimental conditions were interpreted for knowing the dynamic and static behavior of the lathe spindle. Experimental results show that geometric accuracy changes due to the spindle thermal deformation under the cutting force. Temperature and displacement into the regression analysis method are extracted to find the value for compensation. And surface roughness possibility evaluating the behavior of the spindle structure by the spindle idle vibration, spindle rotation accuracy and static stiffness items to analyze the correlation between the spindle structure behavior and the roughness. Keyword: spindle idle vibration、spindle rotation accuracy、spindle thermal deformation、static stiffness、regression analysis.

In this research CNC lathe machine tool machine architecture for the asymmetry,it is difficult to set up online thermal error compensation technology.affent the machineing accuracy of machine tools, the main source of erroe for the thermal deformation of the spindle structure.Early from the design of the spindle with finite element analysis software can sinmulate the deformation of the structure of the overall pre and thus to modify the design configuration bearing the heat soure and the spindle structure of geometric relationships and to effectively eliminate or reduce the occurrence of thermal error.Thermal error experiment equipment of this study is first erected in the spindle structure body is set to 14 temperature sensors in the different experimental conditions to measure the spindle structure of the castion operation of the heat generated by the thermal temperature rise due to the spindle bearings and the use of eddy current displacement takethe structure of the thermal error due to fever and simulated values for comparison. The source of heat is from the operation of the bearing friction formula to calculate the size of the heat provided by the bearing manufacturers manual using ANSYS simulation software, and use trial and error learning to adjust its boundary conditions bearing haet to sinmulate the bearing due to running fever for the thermal behavior of the spindle structure. The analysis showed that the thermal temperature rise of the simulation part;its temperature rise can simulate the actual experimental conditions fixed speed of 1200rpm and 1800rpm fitting error within 5℃.In the thermal deformation for the simulation part;its carbon steel test bars X-axis and Y-axis direction displacement amount of simulation and experimental results have a big gap. Only a Z-axis thermal expansion forecast a 20% error. And the use of the ARX model for spindle structure thermal error modeling and prediction about the thermal deformation of the spindle structure up to 170 micron up to ±5 microns.Proposed the ANSYS spindle structure of themrmal expansion drformation the use of thermal error model predictions (auto regressive exogenous(ARX))Z axis axial thermal error of the predictive value of about ±20 microns. The main purpose finite element analysis software to simulate the temperature distribution and displacement, reuse thermal error compensation model ARX thermal error prediction, this method can save the actual erection of experiments back to the initial design of the struceture, the modelthe time cost of he equipment. Therefore, the use of finite element anslysis software in qualitative research methods for the therma error prediction quantitatively accurate values will take a long time simulation analysis and thermal error experiment with each other than the set rule of thumb to find out the simulation.

This study is one of the intelligent machine tools technology–Thermal Errors Compensation Technology. This technology has been used widely in advanced machine tools manufacturers such as Japan, Germany etc. However, there’re only few domestic factories that commercialize this technology, most of them are still at the experimental stage. The lathe turns cylindrical workpiece with fixed tools. Through the rotating workpiece, and manufactures with fixed cutting tools. Due to the high changing speed and the frequency of the cutting load, long working hours results in heat deforming and affects the accuracy of the relative position between the tool and the workpiece. These small changes can damage the machining precision. Therefore, this study measures the temperature in the lathe, and the thermal errors of the workpiece spindle. Then we gathered the experimental statistics and analysis, by the multiple regression to analyze the relationship between the heat source and deformation, and made the three axis thermal errors model. Also, through analyzing the data, we keep adding items from polynomial, interaction and cyclical series in the model. Finally, based on the merits of the predictive ability of the model, we choose the best thermal errors model. This study successfully made thermal errors model standard deviation of the forecast error within 5 μm.

Spindle is the key component of a machine tool thus requires high precision. In addition to the precision of the spindle, firm and accurate assembly also play important roles in its final precision. This study is aimed toinvestigating tolerance analysis and adjustment in the assembly of the spindle head system for a CNC lathe. A cost-tolerance model dedicated for this spindle is constructed. Sensitivity and contribution analysis of each tolerancing specification and corresponding fabrication cost, in addition to tolerance analysis, are employed for adjusting tolerancing of the spindle in order to ensure it satisfies precision requirement with lower fabrication cost. For estimating fabrication cost, cost-tolerancing models for different fabrication processes are developed based on cost estimation data from engineering practice. Machining cost can be estimated using the developed cost model through calculating machining time and cost coefficientcorresponding to the machining process. Machining time is calculated from material removal as well as process parameters while fabrication cost is estimated according to processequipment, tool accessories, fixture, labor as well as administration and other costs. Based on this model, a computer spread sheet is also developed for the designer to estimate the fabrication cost in tolerancing design. The main contribution of this study is to build cost-tolerancing model using machining time and the cost coefficient for estimating fabrication cost. This model, together with sensitivity analysis and contribution analysis, provide an approach for tolerancing design of a spindle that satisfies precision requirement with lower fabrication cost.

Acidic fibroblast growth factor (aFGF), acts as a potent neurotrophic factor, could stimulate the survival of neurons and re-growth of neurite in the injured spinal cord area. However, the molecular mechanism of protective effect of aFGF in vivo is still not clearly or fully understood. Previous studies showed that significant improvement in the locomotor behavior analysis resulted from of the aFGF-treated rats after contusive spinal cord injury (SCI). SCI will initiate the different pathological changes along with time, it is therefore, we would like to propose that aFGF may play different role at different time course during the repair processes. Proteomic and bioinformatic approach were adapted to investigate the protein profile changes of the damaged spinal cord tissue of the SCI rats treated either with or without aFGF at 28 days after contusive injury. We found that 25 protein spots were shown to have significant differential expression using proteomic approach. Using bioinformatic analysis, these proteins were categorized into five major expression patterns and five functional categories including structural activity, glucose metabolism, antioxidant/oxidoreductase activity, signal transduction and transporter activity according the biological process in which they are involved. Hence, the protective effect of aFGF at the late stage came from a set of teamwork of multiple factors that may attenuate neuronal injuries for providing a better environment recovering from the spinal cord damage. In this study, our results provide a better insight into the SCI regeneration mechanisms in the late stage of repair processes of SCI rat. Noticeably, in addition to shed light on the academic contribution to the mechanism of neural regeneration, the outcome of this research will also be beneficial for the clinical application of the SCI patients.
