This research discusses of rituals for Dewi Kwan Im celebration that is the day Dewi Kwan Im leaving the world. Therefore Khonghucu people’s always celebrate the biggest day of Dewi Kwan Im. Dewi Kwan Im Temple where located at KM 12 Palembang also held a celebration ceremony in welcoming the great day of Dewi Kwan Im with has its own rituals tradition in carrying out the celebration ceremony of Dewi Kwan Im. Every rituals procession which help held in Dewi Kwan Im Palembang Temple has a meaning in it. The purpose of this research is to know the meaning of rituals celebration for Dewi Kwan Im at Dewi Kwan Im Temple Palembang and to know the tradition which did by the Khonghucu people’s at Dewi Kwan Im Temple Palembang in celebrating the rituals of Dewi Kwan Im. The theories which used in this research are semiotics theory, transcendental communication theory and assimilation theory. The research methods that used is qualitative research methods with a case study approach. The data results were obtained through direct observation to Dewi Kwan Im Palembang Temple, interviews with five sources, and literature studies. The conclusion of this research is the celebration rituals of Dewi Kwan Im at Dewi Kwan Im Palembang Temple is a form of respect and gratitude of Khonghucu people’s to Dewi Kwan Im for the blessings and help which recieved by the Khonghucu people’s during this time. Other than that the tradition which there at Dewi Kwan Im Palembang Temple is a combination of Hokkien culture society.Penelitian ini membahas upacara perayaan Dewi Kwan Im yaitu hari Dewi Kwan Im meninggalkan dunia. Dewi Kwan Im merupakan dewi yang sangat dihormati oleh umat Khonghucu sebab Dewi Kwan Im dipercaya dapat membantu umat Khonghucu yang membutuhkan pertolongan. Oleh karena itu umat Khonghucu selalu merayakan hari besar Dewi Kwan Im. Kelenteng Dewi Kwan Im yang berada di KM 12 Palembang turut mengadakan upacara perayaan dalam menyambut hari besar Dewi Kwan Im dengan memiliki tradisi upacara sendiri dalam melaksanakan upacara perayaan Dewi Kwan Im. Setiap prosesi upacara yang dilaksanakan di Kelenteng Dewi Kwan Im Palembang mempunyai makna di dalamnya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui makna upacara perayaan Dewi Kwan Im yang dilaksanakan di Kelenteng Dewi Kwan Im Palembang dan untuk mengetahui tradisi yang dilakukan oleh umat Khonghucu di Kelenteng Dewi Kwan Im Palembang dalam merayakan upacara Dewi Kwan Im. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu teori semiotika, teori komunikasi transendental dan teori asimilasi. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Hasil data diperoleh melalui observasi langsung ke Kelenteng Dewi Kwan Im Palembang, wawancara dengan lima narasumber, dan studi kepustakaan. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah upacara perayaan Dewi Kwan Im yang dilaksanakan di Kelenteng Dewi Kwan Im Palembang merupakan bentuk rasa hormat dan terima kasih umat Khonghucu kepada Dewi Kwan Im atas berkat dan pertolongan yang diterima oleh umat Khonghucu selama ini. Selain itu tradisi yang ada di Kelenteng Dewi Kwan Im Palembang merupakan gabungan dari budaya masyarakat Hokkien.

Abstract:
Kwan Yin, although typically depicted as female in Chinese literature and artworks, is originally a male deity Avalokite?vara in India. This essay examines the process, reason, and impact of Kwan Yin’s feminization in the ancient Chinese context and argues that her gender transformation is a transformation to the mother stereotype. The essay mainly relies on primary source of Buddhist texts and folklores of Kwan-Yin in China and secondary sources researching the gender transformation of Kwan-Yin through historical and sociological lens. The essay concludes that while the female Kwan Yin’s popularity could be seen as gender empowering, the mother stereotype she and female deities of other religions embody in fact dismisses woman’s individual value.

LANGUAGE NOTE | Document text in Chinese; abstract in English only.The objective of this paper is to reject Kwan’s claim in his paper “Does the Soul Exist? What Near-Death Experiences Reveal.” As Kwan draws heavily on references from Pim van Lommel, I also reject van Lommel’s position. Kwan and van Lommel’s claim is that the phenomenon of NDE supports the view that people’s experiential content and their consciousness exist independently of their physical bodies. I raise three objections to Kwan. First, I argue that there is a fundamental difference between life and death; therefore, the phenomena of NDE may give us little idea of whether some form of experience exists after death. Second, there is no evidence that an NDE happens at the exact moment the patient’s body shuts down. Abstract:
More than 45 million ethnic Chinese are settled outside China and about 20 % among them live in America. The aim of this study is to investigate how a Hong Kong writer in the diaspora has been influenced in his writing in a transcultural and modernist direction and in what way translation can be a part of transculturalism. In this study, the author 梁秉鈞 Leung Ping-kwan (1949-2013) has been selected as an example of this. The study is based on prose and lyrical texts by him. Studies of Chinese in the diaspora have long been neglected, but in recent years, Chinese American academics have begun research into Chinese diaspora literature from a transcultural perspective. This study aims to contribute to transcultural literary studies. In the study of Leung Ping-kwan ́s texts, a comparative literary analysis is used which is based on theories of identity and transculturalism. I argue that Leung Ping-kwan's writing is characterized by transcultural and modernist features.

Abstract:
In the past, the planning process had been top down with a restrictive level of public participation. The decision-making power has been concentrated within the administration. The public has been tolerable at pre-1997. People in Hong Kong are no longer living at the “borrowed time” and “borrowed space” that Hughes (1976) described under the colonial rule after the return to motherland. They have developed a sense of belonging, show genuine concern on development of Hong Kong and increasing demands for participation in the policymaking process, hence the planning mechanism. The community has become more vocal in the planning process. Tseung Kwan O (TKO) is a third generation and the seventh new town in Hong Kong. Since the Executive Council’s designation to develop into new town in 1982, it has undergone very rapid development. Transport networks in news towns have been planned to serve by railway. Railway is the backbone of Hong Kong’s transport system and it has a strong impact on urban development. In Hong Kong, urban development has followed the transit-oriented approach. There are institutional settings and policies in public and private sectors that support transit-oriented development (TOD). Drastic spatial changes occurred in the surrounding area of MTR stations after the operation in 2002. Taking advantage of the enhanced accessibility brought about by the railway line, high density developments are located close to the MTR stations at Po Lam, Hang Hau, Tseung Kwan O and Tiu Keng Leng, each forming a district centre with its own retail and supporting facilities. The study scope would be based on the institutional settings and policies in public and private sectors that support TOD. In a society that composed of a heterogeneous group of people with different interests, the stakeholder composed a power structure in the planning process of the TKO new town, negotiation among the power exists. The resultant urban pattern is an outcome of the power negotiation. This study aimed to examine how different stakeholders participated in the negotiation of planning process in the latest generation of new town using the case of TKO as illustration. The level of public participation in the planning process of Tseung Kwan O has been increasing. As the community has become more vocal in the planning process, efforts can be seen in reaching out to different stakeholders regarding the further development of Tseung Kwan O with a view to jointly planned with the community.

AbstractScar retractions occurring on mobile areas on the body surface, like the neck, the joints, the hand, and the face may induce functional limitations in skin availability during movements. Extensive burns, trauma, and infected wounds may be found as risk factors. The activation of populations of myofibroblasts may explain the occurrence of skin contracture, as they mechanically act on the matrix and induce skin retraction (Kwan and Tredget, Hand Clin 33(2):277–292, 2017). Pathological consequences of the contractures may vary from a moderate limitation of movement over a digital joint to a permanent neck contracture impairing eye vision in the horizontal plane. The shortage of skin capacity may vary from 2 to 10 cm. Most of the contractures respond to an active early treatment when there is an early diagnosis at 1 month after wound healing, but if diagnosed later specific surgical procedures are needed, like skin grafting, local or regional flaps, but also complex microsurgical flaps. Specific indications depend on the necessity to restore the function.

Abstract We applied a special theory of an incompressible mixture of an elastic solid and an inviscid fluid to experimental data (Iatridis et al., 1995) for axial confined compression of annulus fibrosus in finite deformation. We found that this special theory demands a significantly different nonlinear permeability function than the widely used theory of Kwan et al. (1990) and Holmes and Mow (1990) to achieve a best-fit regression to the surface stress time history.

Abstract The time and history dependent viscoelastic properties have been determined for the normal medial collateral ligament (MCL) of canine (Woo, 1981), porcine anterior cruciate ligament (Kwan, 1993), and human patellar tendon in a cadaver model (Johnson, 1994). The objective of this study was to use a combined experimental and analytical approach to quantify the viscoelastic properties of the intact MCL in a goat model. A thorough understanding of the viscoelastic properties at low strain levels is necessary to future studies of the healing MCL. The quasi-linear viscoelastic theory (QLV) (Fung, 1972) was used to characterize the properties of the MCL during stress relaxation.

Abstract:
Deep tissue injury (DTI), as a recently emphasized mechanism for PU formation [1], has received increased attention lately and several studies reported findings on newly developed DTI animal models [2]. The clinical view of DTI emphasizes the severity of clinically identified DTI as that a true DTI progresses rapidly even with the most aggressive treatment and its massive tissue necrosis is in a similar nature of a Stage-IV full-thickness wound [3]. Many animal PU models have been developed to test different hypotheses related to deep tissue injury (DTI) [3]. However, none of DTI studies reported that the experimentally induced DTI eventually progressed to be an open wound which affected superficial skin, and the reported histological or imaging data of the induced DTI did not suggest massive tissue necrosis. Although it might be that most studies did not keep their DTI animals long enough to observe the formation of an open wound from the DTI, the results from our own observation and Kwan, et al [4], in which no skin lesion was formed after 7 days of DTI, do not support this speculation. It may be that, in these DTI studies, the injured deep layer had healed. By examination of the existing PU rat models, especially those for DTI research, we came to our assumption that the missing bony prominence may possibly be a flaw that prevents those models from yielding more clinically relevant data. It has long been the understanding that PUs often occur at tissue pressure points around a bony prominence. We believe that, to more accurately simulate the clinical scenario of DTI formation, a bony prominence is necessary for a rat DTI model.
