Full textBackground: Unilateral training is considered to be a new field of interest within the science of sports. Traditionally most of the strength and conditioning training is performed bilaterally even though the majority of motions in sports are carried out unilaterally. Previous studies have examined the correlations between agility and power output but few of them investigated the difference between unilateral and bilateral power output and agility. Objective: The aim of this study was to examine whether the correlation between unilateral power output and agility is stronger than the correlation between bilateral power output and agility in female division 2 soccer players. Method: Female soccer players (n=13, age 23 ± 4 years) performed loaded counter movement jumps with 20 kg, 30 kg and 40 kg for both legs, left leg and right leg and with 50 kg for both legs and T-test and Pro agility test. Power output, in relation to body weight for both legs (PBbw), left leg (PVbw) and right leg (PHbw) was analyzed and correlated against T-test (Ttest) and Pro agility test (Proagility). Results: Significant correlations were found between agility and both left unilateral (PVbw-Ttest, r = -0,578) and bilateral (PBbw-Ttest, r = -0,741; PBbw-Proagility, r = -0,555) power output, where the bilateral correlation was the strongest. No significant correlation was found between the right leg and agility. Conclusion: Bilateral power output had a stronger correlation with agility than unilateral power output and agility in female division 2 soccer players.

Full textAim The aim of this study was to explore the knowledge, experience and attitude regarding injuries and Injury prevention exercise program (IPEP), e.g. Knee Control in girls playingfootball at high-level for their age group. The research questions were: • What knowledge do girls in high-level football teams have regarding injuries and IPEPs? • What experience do girls in high-level football teams have regarding injuries and IPEPs? • What is the attitude among girls in high-level football teams to injuries and IPEPs? Method A qualitative research design using semi structured interviews was chosen as the basis for amanifest content analysis approach. Ten girls aged 13 and 14 years old were purposivelyselected among high-level football teams in Stockholm. They had no earlier personal experience of a severe injury and had been playing football for at least 4 years. Results The manifest content analysis resulted in three main categories: 1) knowledge regardinginjuries and IPEPs, 2) experience regarding injuries and IPEPs and 3) attitudes to injuries and IPEPs. These main categories had five or six sub categories each. The girls had 1) someknowledge about knee injuries and their consequences but lacked a wider understanding of the concept Knee Control. The girls had 2) experiences of minor injuries and IPEPs but expressed an uncertainty regarding the execution of the exercises and were dependent on their coaches on how the IPEPs were conducted. 3) The attitude among the girls was described as an acceptance of injuries being part of the game. However, there was a concern how a severe knee injury could affect their image as an athlete as well as the sport context they belonged to. IPEPs was considered a necessary but boring routine they conducted without any enthusiasm. Conclusion The results indicate that girls playing football in high-level teams have a reasonable level of knowledge and experience of injuries and IPEPs but lack a deeper understanding of the content and aspects of the IPEP Knee Control. There is an accepting attitude regarding injuries. The IPEP Knee Control is looked upon as a routine they do conscientiously without any enthusiasm. These findings suggest a more thorough presentation of IPEPs with the players.

Full textAim: The aim of the cross-sectional study was to find out if there were asymmetries between the dominant and non-dominant leg in non-injured female soccer players regarding sagittal knee laxity. The aims were: What´s the anterior and posterior knee laxity in the dominant and non-dominant leg measured with KT-1000 at loads of 20 lb, 30 lb, and a manual maximum test in anterior direction? Is there side-to-side differences in knee laxity between the dominant and non- dominant leg measured with KT-1000 at the anterior and posterior loads of 20 lb, 30 lb and with a manual maximum test in anterior direction? How many of the participants show a side-to-side difference of sagittal knee laxity of ≥ 2 mm and ≥ 3 mm measured with the KT-1000 and how is the frequency between the dominant and non-dominant leg of these distributed? Method: In order to answer the aim of the cross-sectional study 56 female soccer players from division 1-2 participated. All participants were ≥ 18 years old, no previous knee injury and had played football for at least 5 years. The KT -1000 instrument was used to measure knee laxity between the dominant and non-dominant leg. All measurements were performed by the same test leader, with the same test-instrument and in a standardized position. Statistical calculations were performed on loads P-20/30 lb, A-20/30 lb, Total AP-20/30 lb and a manual maximum test. Data for knee laxity were measured and analyzed by leg dominance through the Mann Whitney U-test. Results: The results of all participants showed an equivalent of knee laxity of dominant and non-dominant leg at the anterior and posterior measurements. Mean values ranged from 1.91 to 2.91 mm in the posterior direction (range of 1-4 mm). The corresponding measured values in the anterior direction were 4.03 to 9.53 mm (range 4-19 mm). No significant side-to-side differences were revealed between the dominant and non-dominant leg but an increased knee laxity was documented in the dominant leg at all loads in the anterior direction. Depending on the load 16.6 to 51.8 % of the participated had a side-to-side difference ≥ 2 mm. 62.1 to 81.2 % of these registered increased anterior knee laxity in the dominant leg. Conclusions: The measurements of sagittal knee laxity revealed no significant differences in the asymmetries between the dominant and non-dominant leg in non-injured female soccer players. At the A-MMT load over half of the participants revealed a side-to-side difference ≥ 2 mm. The study highlights the need for further research to identify individual side-to-side differences regarding sagittal knee laxity.

Full textBoth biomechanical and neuromuscular factors affect the risk of suffering an ACL rupture among female soccer players. Unbalanced muscle activation around the knee has been found to affect the joint stability. The aim of this study was therefor to investigate the muscle activation in vastus medialis and vastus lateralis in relation to dynamic valgus among female soccer players. The study was conducted in cooperation with the Finnish company Fibrux OY, who has developed a portable sEMG testing equipment. The participants consisted of 15 female soccer players who were tested with sEMG electrodes on vastus medialis and vastus lateralis during a drop-landingtest that was filmed to enable 2D analysis of valgus angle. The results show a tendency to correlation between the activation ratio and valgus(r=0,51) (p>0,05), and between activation delay in vastus medialis and valgus (r=0,32) (p>0,05). But both correlations lack significance. The results could be explained by that there might be other muscles around the knee at that affects the joint stability even more than vastus lateralis and medialis do. Future studies should be conducted with larger sample size and focus on prospective epidemiological research because that is the only study design that reveals what variables can be associated with the risk of suffering a knee injury.
Rönnbäck, Julia. "vi som fotbollsspelare hamnar någonstans lite mittemellan kanske ibland det här manliga och det kvinnliga : - om fem damfotbollsspelares genusskapande." Thesis, Linköping University, The Department of Gender Studies, 2009. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-54243.

Full textThe purpose of this study is to investigate how some women football players in Central Sweden experience how their male and female coaches exert their communication and leadership. The selection in the study consists of 4 women's football players with experiences of female and male football coaches at one level between Damallsvenskan-Division Two. The methodology for data collection is a qualitative interview with semi-structured nature. An inductive analysis method is used to analyze data. The result of the study shows that the perception of the players who have experiences of female and male football coaches does not differ significantly in the perception of leadership style. The perceived differences that the players describe are individual differences between the different coaches. Thus, there is no difference between female and male coaches. The result of the study shows that the players prefer a coach who is clear in the leadership. Openness and dialogue with the coaches are highly prioritized by the players.Which may indicate that the players in the study prefer a more democratic leadership then an authoritarian leadership. The conclusion from the study is that the experience of the women's football players of female and male football coach leadership styles is not gender-related.

Full textBeing able to handle stress, injury, expectations and demands is important in the everyday life of an elite football player. Female football players have a greater challenge to combine their elite efforts with other employment, compared with male football players. The purpose of this study was to describe female football players’ experiences of how their elite efforts affect occupational balance and well-being. A qualitative study design with semi-structured interviews was used. Data selection was made by convenience sampling. Data was analysed with a qualitative content analysis. The results showed that elite female football players’ had a demanding everyday life that required planning and structure to promote occupational balance. Their everyday life consisted of clear routines and habits for work/ studies and football practice. It was necessary for the players to have another occupation in addition to their elite efforts, to manage financially. The informants made a conscious effort to prioritize rest, sleep and practice. Sacrifices were part of the daily life where family and friends often became less of a priority. The elite efforts meant high demands and expectations, which affected well-being both negatively and positively. The conclusion was that everyday life of a female elite football player consisted of factors that influenced their occupational balance and well-being. This study was an insight into this problem area but further research is required.
