Abstract:
Objectives. The aim of the study is to verify the structure of the WHOQOL-AGE tool on the basis of a representative group of Czech seniors older than 60 years of age. Sample and setting. The sample of participants consisted of 403 seniors (75 males, 228 females, average age 70.7 ys, SD = 7.72, range 60 – 91 ys, selected by quota system according to gender, age, and region. Results. Bifactor confirmatory analysis and the degree of agreement of data with Rasch’s model acceptably supported the one-dimensional structure of the tool and can be recommended as a screening questionnaire for estimating the quality of life of seniors older than 60 years, especially in cases where it is necessary to limit the time and cognitive burden of respondents. Study limitation. The findings are limited to a Czech general representative population sample.

Abstract:
This doctoral thesis is based on an approach of the city planning and control of its development as well as principals of sustainable development. Permanent sustainability of city planning and control of city development needs indicators for valuation of effectiveness of these processes. The doctoral thesis deal with valuation of public space quality and the opportunities of description quality of public space as an aggregate indicator of city life quality. Thesis is focused on selection of indicators, which is crucial for valuation of public space quality linked with processes of city planning, and proposal of its methodology. Based on analyses of existing approaches and valuations of public space, the indicators representing quality were proposed. The main requirement for proposed indicators was effort for clarify and simplicity as well as availability of dates needed for indicator´s measurements. The thesis includes theoretical proposal of methodology as well as its examination in practice. Final linkage indicator - "public space - indicator of city life quality" is verified on chosen public spaces of cities in the Czech Republic. Complete methodology was proved on Hradec Králové city.

Abstract:
The main objective of this thesis is to assess the applicability of methods that are based on the employment of composite indicators when evaluating the 'sustainable development' and 'quality of live' indexes. The first issue observed in here is whether the composite indicators as such even represent a suitable tool for assessing the above mentioned area of analysis; if the answer is yes, then, secondly, under which conditions the composite indicators may be applied in the context of our analysis. After answering the questions above, it is crucial to find suitable methods for the particular steps of constructing the composite indicator for the sustainable development and quality of life categories, whereby it is also necessary to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages resulting from the application of the selected composite indicators for the purposes of the respective analysis. Within this thesis, the comparison of individual methods of constructing the indicators was performed by means of applying the individual indicators on the established set of data, as well as a subsequent comparison of results and the assessment of strengths and weaknesses of the individual methods has been done with respect to the factual side of the particular composite indicators (i.e. with respect to the sustainable development and quality of life in our case). Various composite indicators for the quality of life and sustainable development have already been established; the necessity of composing additional composite indicators for the above mentioned categories reflects the problematic nature of finding a suitable tool that would be generally accepted in this case. This thesis provides for relevant conclusions and recommendations that should contribute to establish a suitable approach towards the construction of composite indicators for the sustainable development and quality of life assessment. Furthermore, the thesis provides for the comparison of methods as employed in practical construction of composite indicators in our context with methods based on a professional theory. The professional theory/literature addresses and recommends certain methods for the construction of composite indicators in the relevant context, however, these methods are typically not applied in the practical construction of the most frequently/commonly used composite indicators for measuring the sustainable development and quality of life. The critical aspects that have been observed within comparison of the individual methods are transparency of calculation, interpretability of results, robustness of the composite indicator closely linked to the nature and character of the data, and the level of applicable compensation of the individual parameters within the respective indicator that is allowed by the particular aggregation mechanism employed. The thesis concludes on a rather questionable use of composite indicators in case of assessing the sustainable development, whereby deduces on recommending the application of composite indicators only in case of assessing the quality of life, which may also be understood as a part (sub-item) of the sustainable development and which is easier to be quantitatively expressed. In parallel, the circumstances of the quality of life are better to be compared across various items, e.g. regions. The results indicate that it is not possible to establish a uniform recommendation when selecting the most suitable method; in case of every construction of the particular composite indicator it is necessary to take into account the strengths and weaknesses of all the considered methods. At the same time, the results lead to consideration of relevancy of conclusions resulting from the evaluation of quality of life by means of composite indicators, especially by means of a single number.

Abstract:
Nowadays quality of life is often discussed topic. In defining this term, there is considerable ambiguity and disunity, since there is no universally accepted definition, nor theoretically sophisticated model. However, despite this fact, the level of quality of life is currently one of the most discussed topic. Monitoring the quality of life by using a variety of indicators are engaged in several international organizations, one of them is the Development Programme of the United Nations. This organization annually publishes the Human Development Index, which divides the world´s countries into four groups according to their level of development: low, medium, high and very high development. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the quality of life in 125 countries by using cluster analysis, accurately the Ward's method. Quality of life in this thesis is evaluated based on 19 demographic and economic indicators, which include life expectancy, literacy rate, access to drinking water and infant mortality rate. The cluster analysis divided the country into individual clusters by their similarities. Six clusters were created by this analysis, which had been compared with the results of Human Development Index. The clusters very well reflect the division, which is commonly used in the characterization of developing and developed countries. Each of the six clusters can be very well described and characterized in terms of quality of life. It is also possible qualify those clusters as poorest developing, low developed, moderately developed, medium development, high and very high development countries. Based on the results it can be stated that this analysis is consistent with other indicators of quality of life and the resulting clusters are identical with the division of countries which is commonly used.

Abstract:
The master thesis introduces comparison of economic situation and overall quality of life in regions of the Czech Republic in 2013. Based on hierarchical Quality-of-life Index (QLI), the thesis confirms stated hypothesis, which assumes that ordered lists of regions by GDP per capita and alternative, more complex QLI will differ. Aforementioned index is composed of 24 cross-section indicators, which are sorted into three particular categories. Inputs can be considered both consistent and comparable, since the analysis is based on data published by Czech statistical office, individual ministries and official specialized institutions. As the following synthesis proves, Prague region is the best ranked - especially thanks to its favorable economic and demographic conditions. The thesis therefore denies another hypothesis, which expects Prague to perform worse due to its high rate of crime and lower quality of environment than in other regions. Regression analysis implies that total GDP per capita contribution to QLI corresponds to 70 percent.

Full text
Abstract:

The main goal of the presented paper is to compare the subjective quality of life on both sides of the Slovak-Ukrainian border of Schengen. The theoretical basis of the problem is focused on the quality of life as such on both sides of the Slovak-Ukrainian border of Schengen. The research sample consisted of 400 respondents, of which 200 were Slovak and 200 Ukrainian. Subsequently, with the help of the mathematical-statistical program SPSS 25, we observed statistically significant differences in the subjective opinions of the respondents. We monitored the quality of life in four areas that we had previously created (health care, unemployment, satisfaction with cultural and sports activities, transport). The results pointed to statistically significant differences in subjective opinions in the areas of health care and satisfaction with transport. Differences in areas indicate improvements in hospitals in terms of staffing and technology. In transport, road infrastructure and urban transport vehicles need to be significantly modernized.

Abstract:
Chronic diseases affect the quality of life of families of sick people on the level of their physical, economic, mental, and subjective well-being. The aim of the paper is two-folded: a) to determine the economic and social consequences of the child's illness for families and b) to identify the factors that may influence the origin and development of asthma in the child population. The data come from a survey we carried out on a sample of parents with children who are treated in the Children's Speleotherapy Sanatorium in Ostrov near Macocha (a total sample of 201 respondents). We checked for any association by use of correlation analysis, Kruskal-Wallis and Chi-square test. More than half of the families reported that the child's illness negatively influences the involvement in the labour market, families show an increase in financial costs associated with rehab and a financial loss during the care of a sick child. One third of the children’s patients has problems with missing classes at school, the average absence is 8 weeks in the school year, and every tenth child has difficulty in establishing social contacts. Analyses of external factors in relation to asthma show the effect of education on smoking in the family, but did not confirm the effect of age and mother's education on the birth weight of the child or the type of birth. From the results, it is clear that asthma adversely affects the quality of life of the asthmatic child and his family. The disease is thus associated with social and psychological consequences, which limits the performance at school for children and work activities for parents and other activities. All in one, it has not only health, but also socio-economic consequences.

Abstract:
The quality of life of the people is a broad spectrum area of scientific research. It is measured through 9 indicators, which include an indicator of physical and economic security, which includes a negative phenomenon - criminality. The aim of the paper is spatial analysis of criminality as one of the elements of quality of life in the Bratislava self-governing region (BSR) in four areas (violent, moral, property and economic), as well as a comparison of the crimes of the capital cities Bratislava and Prague. The basic tool of data processing is comparative analysis and techniques in GIS and Excel programs. Most criminal acts in Slovakia are committed in BSR and in Bratislava.
