Abstract:

Försvarsmakten har anställda läkare för att hantera militärers fysiska problem, psykologer för deras mentala problem och präster för själsliga problem. Försvarsmakten ger uttryck för att själavård bidrar till operativ effekt och präster är satta att leda själavården. Forskning visar på ökad risk för stressymptom bland personal som deltagit i militära missioner och att goda relationer kan motverka destruktiva symptom. Inom ramen för denna studie har ingen svensk forskning påträffats som stödjer att själavård bidrar till operativ effekt. Själavårdskonceptet är outforskat ur ett militärt perspektiv och studien vill bidra med vetenskapligt grundad förståelse om dess roll och vilken betydelse själavården har för krigföringsförmågan. Genom en induktiv ansats och ett kvalitativt perspektiv har förståelsen utvecklats med en anpassad form av grundad teori. Forskningsfrågor 1. Vilken roll spelar själavården för officerare i Försvarsmakten? 2. Upplever officerarna att själavården har betydelse för krigföringsförmågan? Resultatet visar att militär själavård kan förstås som en decentraliserande process bestående av traditionell, social och spirituell vägledning. Resultatet presenteras i en tredimensionell modell som sammantaget baseras på tolv kategorier som framträtt ur empirin. Betydelsen av militär själavård för krigföringsförmågan framstår som en individuell drivkraft som armerar och förstärker krigföringsförmågan. Diskussionerna i studien består av tre teoretiska analyser: Den första diskussionen förbinder resultatet med forskningsöversikten. Den andra diskussion förenar resultatet med den teoretiska referensramen där en utvecklad modell av krigföringsförmågan presenteras. Den tredje diskussionen utgörs av en perspektivisering där resultatet projiceras mot teori som framträtt sent under studien.

Abstract:

Uppsatsen är en undersökning av den svenska konstnären Carl Larssons väggmålningar på läroverken i Sverige under 1890-1903. Undersökningens material består av Carl Larssons tre väggmålningar Svenska kvinnan genom seklen på Nya elementarläroverket för flickor i Göteborg, Skolungdomens korum på Norra latinläroverket för gossar i Stockholm och Ute blåser sommarvind på Göteborgs latinläroverk för pojkar. Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka hur konstnären gestaltar kvinnor, flickor och pojkar och uttrycker sitt barnperspektiv med anknytning till genus- och identitetsperspektiv, där en viktig punkt är att undersöka konstnärens förändring av sitt barnperspektiv genom tiden. Barnperspektiv, genus, identitet och semiotik är mina teorier och metoder.

Abstract:

Today, many different kinds of choirs exist – from traditional choirs, to project choirs and even virtual choirs. In Europe alone, choirs are part of 37 million people’s everyday life and there is an uprising in the use of digital artefacts among the choirs. However, there is still not a lot written about this cultural industry, even though humans have sung together for hundreds of years. Unlike other extensively investigated practices such as businesses, transportation, or even sports, we still know very little about how digitalization has impacted choirs, their practitioners and practice. Drawing on practice theory and concepts from research on digitalization, this study aims to expand the existing work about choir music by investigating how choir leaders use digital technology in their work to see how the digitalization effects choir music. During the course of the thesis COVID-19 had a massive impact on everything, including choirs. As a result, rapid choir digitalization arose, moving the impact of digital technologies on choir practices to the forefront. My study shows how digital technologies creates new opportunities and made choir practices more efficient - while the essence of choir music was pushed away by the technology.

Abstract:

This is a study of the social and economic characteristics of the people living around the southern end of the Korup National Park, an area of 125,000 ha of tropical rainforest in Cameroon's Southwest Province. It seeks to clarify how the use of forest resources relates to people's livelihood strategies. One of the main aims and underlying themes of this thesis is to show that the inhabitants of the Korup forest area are not isolated groups of socially homogeneous forest-dwelling people. Instead they largely consist of cosmopolitan and dynamic people with contrasting livelihood strategies, who form an integral part of the regional economy. The first part of the thesis sets the context by highlighting the historical, geographical, political and institutional features of the Korup forest area, which have important implications for forest use. It describes the range of settlements that I chose as my primary research sites and which I consider to be representative of the major variations in forest conditions and market access found in the southern Korup forest area. Within these settlements I selected a smaller sample of individuals and households for more detailed study, and each sample was chosen to include men and women of different ethnic backgrounds, marital statuses, and age brackets. In the chapters that follow I provide a detailed analysis of the economy of the Korup forest area. In the last part of the thesis, I describe the experience of the Korup Project, an internationally funded programme which aims to conserve and develop the Korup National Park. I evaluate the Korup Project experience against the findings of my study regarding rural livelihoods and economic and socio-political realities of everyday life in the Korup forest area.

Abstract:

Patterns and rates of nutrient input to the forest floor in litterfall, throughfall and stemflow were investigated in plots of low and high abundance of ectomycorrhizal species. The aim of the study was to examine the comparative advantage of the ectomycorrhizal species in nutrient acquisition and cycling on nutrient-poor soils in Korup. Litterfall was similar in both forests with annual estimates of 9.00 and 8.33 t ha-1 yr-1 for LEM and HEM forests respectively. Litterfall distribution followed a mono-modal pattern, with peaks in the dry season in both forests and the HEM forest showing stronger seasonality. The concentrations N, K and Ca in total litterfall were higher in the LEM forest while those of P and Mg were higher in the HEM forest. The bulk of nutrients in total litterfall was in leaf litter with the reproductive fractions having the highest concentrations of nutrients. Ectomycorrhizal species showed lesser internal redistribution of nutrients than non-ectomycorrhizal species which resulted in their higher leaf litter concentrations of nutrients. Breakdown of litter was relatively faster in the LEM forest with an annual decomposition constant (KL) of 3.21 compared to 2.43 for the HEM forest. The reproductive fractions had relatively higher annual decomposition constants of 8.20 and 4.27 in the LEM and HEM forests respectively compared to the other fractions. The overall element mobility in decomposing leaf litter was similar in both forests and in the following order: Mg>K>Ca>P>N. Mineralization of N, P and K in the decomposing leaf litter was similar in both forests and higher in the HEM forest for Mg and Ca. Throughfall was 96.6% and 92.4%, and stemflow 1.5% and 2.2%, of gross rainfall in LEM and HEM forests respectively. Considerable amounts of Ca, Mg and P were brought to the forest canopy in gross rainfall (24-45% of total input through this route) with higher amounts of K and Ca leached from plant parts by the rainwater. The amounts of P, K and Ca in stemflow and throughfall were of the same magnitude in both forests with the enhancement of N slightly higher in the LEM forest and Mg in the HEM forest.

This study examined whether the Koru mindfulness intervention led to improved wellness outcomes, as evidenced by decreases in anxiety and stress scores, and increases in mindfulness scores of preservice teachers. This study also investigated the extent to which participants implemented the Koru intervention with fidelity and were satisfied with the intervention. The research is guided by the following questions: (1) To what extent do preservice teachers who volunteered and were randomly selected for a mindfulness practice (MP) intervention implement the intervention with fidelity (i.e., come to the workshop and practice at home) throughout the period of the intervention? (2) How satisfied are participants with the intervention throughout and at the end of the intervention? (3) To what degree does intervention participation affect students’ stress levels, as measured by the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS; Cohen, Kamarck, & Mermelstein, 1983)? (4) To what degree does intervention participation affect students’ anxiety levels, as measured by the State-Trait Anxiety Scale (STAI-Y; STAI-Y; Spielberger, Gorsuch, Lushene, Vagg, & Jacobs, 1983)? (5) To what degree does intervention participation affect students’ mindfulness levels, as measured by the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS; Brown & Ryan, 2003)? Major findings from this study demonstrate that Koru did significantly reduce preservice teachers’ anxiety and stress levels; however, no significant effects on mindfulness were observed. Findings from this research show mindfulness training can potentially benefit preservice teachers’ wellness outcomes.

Abstract:

This study presents new data on soil organic matter dynamics in relation to two forest types in a strongly seasonal lowland rainforest in Korup National Park, SW Cameroon. Organic matter dynamics at the start of the wet season were investigated by quantifying changes in the amount of the standing crop of surface organic matter and light fraction soil organic matter (LF.SOM) in five replicate plots with low (≤ 15%) basal area ectomycorrhizal trees ≥ 30 cm gbh (LEM forest type), and five with high (≥ 45 %) basal area ectomycorrhizal trees (HEM forest types). Soil samples were collected in the wet season from three soil depths: an organic-enriched layer (0 - 3 cm), 3 - 8 cm and >8 cm layers, in both HEM and LEM forest types, in 1993 (3 harvests), and in 1994 (8 harvests). LF.SOM and heavy fraction soil organic matter (HF.SOM) were separated from < 2 mm whole soil using tap water and/or saturated NaI solution (density 1.65 g cm^-3). Other pools of organic matter quantified included that in the > 2 mm soil fraction and in the < 2 mm sieved whole soil. LF.SOM accounted for 10 - 40 % soil organic matter, 7 - 34 % carbon, 2 - 28 % N and 2 - 25% P of the < 2 mm whole soil across forest types and down the soil profile. The > 2 mm soil fraction accounted for 14 - 21% carbon, 11 - 20 % N, and 6 - 22% P of total soil (i.e. <2 mm whole soil + > 2 mm soil fraction). The amount of LF.SOM was not significantly different between the two forest types at all depths. Both the amount of the standing crop of surface organic matter and LF.SOM declined as the wet season progressed. However, the amount of LF.SOM declined faster (55 %) in the LEM forest than in the HEM forest (22 %). On the other hand, the amount of HF.SOM increased over the same period. A vertical gradient in LF.SOM content was observed.

Des donnees cristallochimiques nouvelles ont ete obtenues sur des materiaux d'alteration lateritique, parfaitement situes dans leur contexte petrologique (bauxite de bidi-koum, guinee): (1) l'existence de lacunes cationiques, compensees par des protons, a ete mise en evidence dans les hematites alumineuses alpha- #y#/#3(fe#1#-#xal#x)#2#-#y#/#3o#3#-#y(oh)#y et les goethites alumineuses alpha- #y#/#3(fe#xal#1#-#x)#1#-#y#/#3o#1#-#y(oh)#1#+#y naturelles. Le taux de lacunes y/3 constitue une signature des precurseurs et des temperatures de cristallisation. Par exemple, dans les bauxites etudiees, le caractere lacunaire marque des hematites (18-28 %mole ) montre qu'elles resultent du vieillissement de precurseurs de type gels ferriques ou ferrihydrite dans des conditions de forte sursaturarion en fer. En revanche, le caractere faiblement lacunaire des goethites alumineuses (10-13 %mole ) reflete une dissolution partielle d'un precurseur gel, ferrihydrite ou hematite et une croissance cristalline en milieu faiblement sursature. (2) la substitution isomorphe de al#3#+ par fe#3#+ dans la gibbsite alpha-al(oh)#3 est limitee a moins de 250 ppm fe, par des contraintes structurales au sein du feuillet dioctaedrique, qui conduisent a une occupation trois fois moindre de l'octaedre le plus distordu axialement. En revanche la substitution fe-al dans la boehmite gamma-alooh ( 1% feooh) pourrait constituer un traceur geochimique sensible et meriterait d'etre prise en compte pour le calcul des champs de stabilite dans le systeme al#2o#3-fe#2o#3-sio#2-h#2o. L'analyse quantitative de la distribution de al et fe dans les melanges naturels cryptocristallins etudies a necessite l'utilisation et le developpement de methodes et modelisations physiques: (i) affinement rietveld multiphases des diffractogrammes des rayons x sur poudre ; (ii) mise en ordre magnetique dans les oxyhydroxydes de fer (spectroscopie mossbauer du #5#7fe) ; (iii) creation d'un code de calcul pour la simulation des spectres de resonance paramagnetique des ions de transition dans les materiaux polycristallins

Abstract:

This study investigates the experiences of underrepresented minority students pursuing studies in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) who learned Koru Mindfulness Meditation. Through in-depth qualitative data analysis of participant interviews, Koru Mindfulness check-in sessions, and reflection logs, findings examined student experience prior to, during, and after having completed Koru Mindfulness as well as the impact on their personal and academic lives. While many traditional interventions designed to address the persistent underrepresentation of minorities in STEM employ a deficit model, this study was interested in understanding the socio-historical and contextual complexity of the student experience prior to and during college which included mindfulness training. Findings were discussed through the theoretical framework of critical race theory (CRT) which argues that racism is a permanent construct of society with specific implications for social institutions, including education. This study also examined how stereotype threat (ST) and student sense of belonging were affected by mindfulness training. Finally, this study discusses the findings as they relate to the significance of material space in the context of race in education.

Since the 1990s, South Korea has enthusiastically developed and applied digital technologies to every sector of economic and social life, and constructed the most intensively connected society in the world. This thesis explores the impact of Digital Korea on the country s cultural industries, focussing particularly on the main audio-visual industries of broadcasting and film. While the push to digitalise Korea has been enthusiastically pursued by successive national governments with the aim of ensuring that Korea maintains its status as a key world economy as the leading edge of capitalism shifts from an industrial to an information base, to fully understand the forms it has taken and its impacts national initiatives have to be placed in the wider context of shifts in the global trading system. With the rise of neo-liberalism across the globe and the perceived ineffectiveness of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in extending multi-lateral trade, both emerging and developed economies have increasingly embraced Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). In line with this trend, South Korea has signed FTAs with the USA, the European Union (EU) and The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). This thesis explores the interplay between national initiatives and global trade through a detailed case study of the US-led FTA with South Korea (KORUS-FTA) focusing particularly on its implications for the Audiovisual Sector and the accompanying, and pivotal, debates around Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs). The KORUS FTA simultaneously opened the Korean market to American audiovisual content and strengthened existing national IPR laws to match the provisions prevailing within the US. Both these moves were opposed within Korea on the grounds that they operated unequally, to the advantage of the US and the detriment of national production that had, in recent years, enjoyed considerable success in export markets, creating what came to be known as the Korean Wave . In addition utilising the extensive corpus of available public documentation the analysis presented here draws on two original research exercises: in depth interviews with experts in international trade and intellectual property rights, conducted in South Korea, the UK and Switzerland (in Geneva, at the WTO Forum 2008), and a web-based survey of a cross section of professionals working in the Korean broadcasting industry. The results obtained show that while Korean economists followed the government in arguing that signing the FTA with the US was essential if Korea was to remain a major player in the global economy, a majority of those working in the audiovisual sector believed that the terms of the agreement, particularly the imposition of US-style IPR laws, disproportionately favoured US interests and would weaken the strong position the sector had achieved in recent years and impede its future growth.

Abstract:

The thesis analyses the international trade of South Korean republic between years 2009 and 2014. The main aim is to analyze free trade agreements which Korea adopted lately. Specifically free trade agreements with European Union and United States of America. Diploma thesis is evaluating their influence on economic development of participating countries. Both free trade agreements are similar to each other in their scope and how ambitious they are. The time difference between these agreements is only one year. The introductory part is dedicated to Korean economic miracle. In other words this part is about key drivers of Korean economic development since beginning of 1960 until today. Next part after examines the development of economic relations between European Union and Korea. Korea became one of the most important trading partners for EU in contrary the great distance between countries. Applicative part analyses the influence of free trade agreements on international trade between countries and macroeconomic situation. For this purpose I processed basic macroeconomic data and detailed data about international trade. I try to evaluate positive and negative consequences of free trade agreements on involved economies. Major part is dedicated to FTA between EU and South Korea. Analyze consist of statistical data from different sources and couple position papers of official European institutions. Thesis examines the influence on major macroeconomic indicators, specific sections of international trade and the influence on trade with cars and car related parts in detail. The same procedure is applied for the analyses of KORUS free trade agreement. Similar data are used in order to maintain the consistency and comparability. Summary of observed conclusions is available at the end of each part.

Abstract:

Spatial distribution of diurnal variations of aerosol properties in South Korea, both long term and short term, is studied by using 9 AERONET sites from 1999 to 2017 for long-term averages and from an additional 10 sites during the KORUS-AQ field campaign. The extent to which WRF-Chem model and the GOCI satellite retrieval can describe these variations is also analyzed. In daily average, Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) at 550 nm is 0.386 and shows a diurnal variation of +20 to -30% in inland sites, respectively larger than the counterparts of 0.308 and ± 20% in coastal sites. Both the inland and coastal sites have their diurnal variation peaks in the early morning and in the evening with noontime and early afternoon valleys. In contrast, Angstrom exponent values in all sites are between 1.2 and 1.4 with the exception of the inland rural sites having smaller values near 1.0 during the early morning hours. All inland sites experience a pronounced increase of Angström Exponent from morning to evening, reflecting overall decrease of particle size in daytime. To statistically obtain the climatology of diurnal variation of AOD, a minimum of requirement of ~2 years of observation is needed in coastal rural sites, twice more than the urban sites, which suggests that diurnal variation of AOD in urban setting is distinct and persistent. AERONET, GOCI, WRF-Chem, and observed PM2.5 data consistently show dual peaks for both AOD and PM2.5, one at ~ 10 KST and another ~14 KST. While Korean GOCI satellite is able to consistently capture the diurnal variation of AOD, WRF-Chem clearly has the deficiency to describe the relatively change of peaks and variations between the morning and afternoon, suggesting further studies for the diurnal profile of emissions. Overall, the relative small diurnal variation of PM2.5 is in high contrast with large AOD diurnal variation, which suggests the need to use AOD from geostationary satellites for constrain either modeling or analysis of surface PM2.5 for air quality application.

Abstract:

My dissertation is a speculative analysis of the historical contexts of a social protest, based on the notion of "articulation" advanced in the field of cultural studies. Focusing on the 2008 candlelight protest against U.S. beef in South Korea, my goal is to explore the historical contexts of the protest, which formulate the identity of the protest. Since the U.S. beef deal was approved by the Korean government as a precondition for the Free Trade Agreement between Korea and the United States, the protest has been considered (notably by leftists in Korea) as a resistance against post-colonial overtones and fascist eco-political principle in the era of neoliberal globalization. Instead of understanding the protest from such an essentialist perspective, my research makes a commitment to exploring the exterior factors that drove the possibility of the protest. The notion of articulation, a mode of explanation that moves beyond any linear sort of causality, provides a framework to view the protest not as a unity, but as a linkage of multi-dimensional (political, economic, social, and cultural) elements of historical contexts. Based on my journal entries written during my participation in the protest, and the journal articles about the 2008 protest written by the scholars in Korea, I explored the main characteristics of the protest in comparison with the conventional social movements in Korea, and discovered that the 2008 candlelight protest had featured the "food safety issue," "participants with heterogeneous desires," "carnivalesque modality," and an "ambiguous goal." From these main features, I inferred four salient axes of historical vectors (and their forces) including "political democratization and depoliticization," "food industrialization and wellbeing fever," "market liberalization and job insecurity," and "advanced communication technology and carnivalesque culture." My research findings present that the 2008 candlelight protest is not a definite insurgent element calling for any deep change in the dominant political and economic paradigm, but exists as a paradoxical event at the cusp between subordination to and resistance against neoliberal globalization. The main contribution of my research project entails (1) pushing the boundaries of communication studies on social resistance by including the notion of articulation which situates the 2008 candlelight protest within its historical contexts, (2) developing speculative analysis as a critical and cultural studies method for exploring structural forces operating in deep layers of our experiences, (3) delineating the new modalities of contemporary social movements by examining the concrete textures and hues of the 2008 candlelight protest, and (4) offering new ways of (re)thinking the principles of efficiency and economic growth by interrogating a case of food industrialization and global exchange.

Segmentation of an image into individual tree crowns is a key step in the processing of remotely sensed data for forestry practice. The doctoral thesis gives a broad overview of this topic. It comprehends theoretical context from mathematical point of view and defines basic terms from airborne imaging and laser scanning. Mathematical methods of tree detection are focused on a robust adaptation to the actual conditions in a region of interest. A novel approach of crown area delineation is introduced, it combines a seeded region growing technique with an active contour as a crown boundary representation. The parametrisation of all algorithms is analysed in a practical half of the thesis and more application-oriented issues are mentioned. Executable computer programs are attached.

This paper examines the different attitudes of the Republic of Korea (South Korea) and the United States of America with regards to the Kaesong Industrial Complex, a joint inter-Korean economic project located in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea). The airborne hyperspectral remote sensing is used as an approach to monitor actual state of environmental components. This thesis covers priority treatment to analyse of hyperspectral data with the aim of a tree crowns delineation. Specific algorithm applying adaptive equalization and the Voronoi diagrams is designed to subdivide a forest area into individual trees. A computer program executes the algorithm and allows testing it on real data, checking and analyzing the results.

Theme of the work is: "The posibility of ensuring the treetops by binding steel ropes with baseplates". This work deals with static binding on trees focusing on binding, using the steel ropes with baseplates. All components used to static binging are described in detail. Main object is to develop methodologies for installing this binding and their applications to trees with subsequent evaluation. At the same time has been inspected and measurements on different types of static bindings. Abstract:

The subject of this bachelor's thesis was to create, from a point cloud, a suitable digital surface model for analysis of vegetation gaps of natural spruce-fir-beech forest. The input data were obtained by means of 2010 airborne laser scanning and 2004 airborne photogrammetry in the territory of Žofín primaeval forest. To create the digital models, several interpolating methods were utilized by means of the AcrMap 10.2 software using the free LAStools toolbox. Subsequently, cuts were created from these models. The cuts were compared in the Pointools View 1.7 software and their capability to truly copy the canopy surface and suitability to search for vegetation gaps were evaluated.

The alleys had experienced a significant number of changes throughout its history until when they became a typical feature of the Czech landscape. However, the maintenance of these vegetation elements lag nowadays. Therefore, this dissertation thesis titled as Maintenance of Road Alleys in the District of Benešov with a Focus on Binding of Treetops Technology is focused on a survey of the most common troubles and damages of trees. Moreover, it will propose suitable cultivation for stabilization given wood. All potential issues and suggestions will be discussed in order to secure road safety. There is a list of selected road sections that will be assessed: II/114 section H, III/1113 section A, III/1114 section C, III/10614 section B, III/11112 section C, III/11434 section F and the old driveway to the castle Jemniště. The selected trees of these segments are further elaborated in detail in a form of pictorial board with quantified financial costs. The proposed measures can serve like a base for the maintenance of the alleys for an administrator of roads and may be also used in other areas of the district.
