Abstract:
In their 'Performance Paper Text[ure]' Korsten & De Jong build a wall-veil out of the audio of the 'Participatory Performance Text[ure]' and theoretical material (the 'text') from the 'Proposal Text[ure].' The wall-veil refers to Ruskin's famous example of the Matterhorn, which he uses to explain the wall-veil as symbolic of the relationship between massing and texture through interdependence. Korsten & De Jong's wall-veil is a mutable subject-object-complex with quotes from different theoretic fields, different eras and different theorists, in which positions shift continuously. Time is seen as a form of simultaneity in which layers fuse to form meaning. Korsten & De Jong regard this process of simultaneity as a middle position and seek it as an opportunity to question existing paradigms artistically.

Korstog, kulturmøder og interessen for den muslimske verden står i dag mere centralt i gymnasiet end tidligere. Men mens islam er obligatorisk stof i religionsundervisningen, behandles den muslimske verdens historie kun kortfattet i de historiske lærebøger. Efter gymnasiereformens indfø- relse i 2005, står begrebet kulturmøde centralt i historiebekendtgørelsen, men det er et begreb, der kan komme til at betone modsætninger, snarere end de fællestræk, der mellem vesten og den muslimske verden. Det afspejler sig delvist i det udbud af læremateriale, der har været til rådighed i gymnasiet. Det er i den sammenhæng, at lærebogen Korstogene Idé og Virkelighed er blevet til. Bogen behandler korstogene og vil samtidig gerne give læserne et mere solidt indblik i den muslimske verdens historie.

Abstract:
A Balkan checklist of the millipede genus Megaphyllum Verhoeff, 1894 has been compiled on the basis of literature data, new collections, and reexamination of type and non-type material. Forty-seven species and subspecies are represented in the peninsula, including four species new to science: M. chiosense Lazanyi & Korsos sp. n. from Chios Island, M. cygniforme Lazanyi & Korsos sp. n. from East Macedonia, M. danyii Lazanyi & Korsos sp. n. and M. digitatum Lazanyi & Korsos sp. n. both from the Peloponnese, Greece. The following new synonymies are established: M. monticola (Verhoeff, 1898) syn. n. of M. carniolense (Verhoeff, 1897); M. latesquamosum (Attems, 1903) syn. n. and M. macedonicum (Strasser, 1976) syn. n. of M. montivagum (Verhoeff, 1901). M. species inquirenda is posed from Andros Island, Greece, on the basis of gonopod slide preparations, labeled by Strasser but never published. M. mueggenburgi (Verhoeff, 1901) comb. nov. is suggested, from the genus Cerabrachyiulus Verhoeff, 1901, previously Chromatoiulus Verhoeff, 1894. Species new to the fauna are: M. bosniense (Verhoeff, 1897) new to the fauna of Greece; M. imbecillum (Attems, 1935) and M. montivagum new to the Republic of Macedonia; and M. lictor (Attems, 1904) new to the fauna of Turkey (European part). The following species have been found and localities are published for the first or second time since their original description: M. euphorbiarum (Verhoeff, 1900), M. lamellifer (Strasser, 1974), M. loebli (Strasser, 1974), M. metsovoni (Strasser, 1976), M. recticauda recticauda (Attems, 1903), and M. taygeti (Strasser, 1976). Thirty-nine species and subspecies are endemic to the Balkan Peninsula, they can be grouped as: (1) species having a wide distribution range; (2) strict endemics of smaller regions; (3) species inhabiting the Peloponnese; and (4) species inhabiting the Greek islands. The Peloponnese and the Rhodopes seem to be remarkably important regions for speciation.

Corona Virus Desease (COVID-19) pertama kali dilaporkan di Wuhan pada Desember 2019. Kemudian menyebar ke berbagai bagian Tiongkok, dan secara bertahap menjadi pandemi global pada Maret 2020. Sementara jumlah kematian terus meningkat, besaran korban telah bergeser dari Asia ke Eropa, dan ke Amerika Serikat (AS). Makalah ini menganalisis respon di negara-negara Tiongkok, Korea Selatan (Korsel), Italia, dan AS, dan memberikan gambaran bagaimana pemanfaatan Artificial Intelligence (AI) dan Big Data. Sementara negara-negara ini memiliki mekanisme tata kelola yang berbeda, ditemukan bahwa beberapa kebijakan penerapan iptekin AI dan Big Data di masing-masing negara memiliki kekhasan. Pandemi memang bersifat global, namun respon masing-masing negara sangat tergantung pada kondisi lokal. Mengingat respon terhadap penyebaran infeksi COVID-19 tersebut tergantung pada kepentingan dan urgensinya, penerapan AI dan Big Data di Tiongkok, Korsel, dan Italia mempunyai kesamaan. Negara-negara ini cenderung menerapkan AI dan Big Data lebih pada strategi pelandaian kurva sementara AS lebih cenderung menerapkan strategi peningkatan kemampuan pelayanan kesehatan.

Het letsel bestond uit multipele, dikke, conische, geelbruine korsten en alopecie. Op een afdrukpreparaat waren talrijke eosinofielen en enkele mastcellen zichtbaar. Het histopathologisch onderzoek van huidbiopten toonde het typische beeld van perforerende dermatitis met verticaal georiënteerde collageenvezels en eosinofiele dermatitis. Een behandeling met dexamethason gaf lichte verbetering. Wanneer dexamethason gecombineerd werd met een topicale mometasontherapie verdwenen de letsels volledig.

Abstract:
This research note presents a defence of the Sound Toll Tables (STT) published by Nina Ellinger Bang and Knud Korst. It is argued that the nature of the information available in the STT with respect to Baltic timber products has been misunderstood by historians. It is shown that it is possible to study the export of individual timber products from the Baltic from 1669 to 1783 on the basis of the STT. The note also demonstrates that the STT can be employed to examine individual ships and their cargoes in a very limited number of cases.

The flow through a safety valve vent stack system has been modeled and analyzed theoretically and experimentally. The theoretical analysis is based on the well known Chapman-Korst base flow theory. The base flow model is augmented with an empirically determined recompression factor to improve agreement between the theoretical analysis and experimental results. A computer program has been developed to solve the equations and provide necessary information to designers.

Abstract:
Drawing on the thought of Achille Mbembé and Jacques Rancière, I observe the spatiotemporal proximity of the Marikana massacre and the production of an Afrikaans musical called Pretville (‘Funville’), attempting to understand the intricate dialectics of othering. I specifically consider the persistence of this mechanism in the ‘Afrikaner volksiel’, a metaphysical construct ostensibly uniting white Afrikaans speakers. To this end, I contextualize Pretville within the larger Afrikaner cultural project before maintaining that the text exhibits a fervent forgetfulness of the South African socio-political landscape. It is thus an aporetic text in that it deconstructs itself through the presences implied in their very invisibility, particularly the present-absence of the racialized labour exploitation buttressing an affluent neo-liberal society. I conclude that, through this entanglement, the world of Marikana is inseparable from the world of Pretville.

Municipal mergers are typically contentious and polarizing issues among both citizens and politicians. In deciding on these, municipal-level referendums are often commissioned by municipal councils. Referendums, though, are also per se polarizing processes that only exacerbate an already polarizing issue. Adding deliberation to referendum processes has been shown in previous studies to be a more democratically sustainable process than mere referendums. In this study, we explore the use of mixed deliberation between citizens and politicians within a municipal merger process in the municipality of Korsholm in Finland, one year before a referendum on the issue occurred. The deliberations were two-hour sessions in February 2018, with local politicians present in each discussion group. Using pre- and post-deliberation surveys, we trace how citizens (n = 117) engaging in deliberation developed their social trust, political trust, and political efficacy during deliberation. Generally, we expected that all of these would be strengthened in deliberation. The results, however, reveal only a few statistically significant effects, some of which ran contrary to expectations.

Abstract:
Robert Rodgers Korstad's dramatic story of tobacco workers in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, during the 1940s and 1950s, reveals the intricate connections between a local struggle for better wages and working conditions and the broader fight for racial democracy and civil rights. On June 17, 1943, a group of black women at the Reynolds Tobacco plant stopped work, rejecting the authority of a dictatorial white foreman and expressing long-simmering anger over speed-ups, dangerous working conditions, and unjust wages. With the help of organizers from the left-leaning United Cannery, Agricultural, Packing, and Allied Workers of America (UCAPAWA), hundreds of black (and a few white) workers at Reynolds built Local 22 of the Food, Tobacco, Agricultural, and Allied Workers of America (FTA-CIO). Korstad eloquently tells us how the FTA succeeded. He points to the temporary convergence of factors, an active federal government in labor relations, the labor movement's aggressive Southern Front, and the move in the urban South toward white supremacy with “a lighter touch” (376) that created a moment of extraordinary opportunity for “working-class blacks [who], through their participation in the labor movement, were in the vanguard of civil rights efforts of the 1940s.”(422)
