Abstract:
Taekwondo, designated as the official ‘national sport of the Republic of Korea,’ has been a source of pride and a point of reference for the Korean people. A great variety of academic articles and books have been published over the last decades about the general historical formation of taekwondo; however, the topic of taekwondo’s institutionalization in South Korea has been largely neglected or ignored. At some point in their lives, almost every South Korean, particularly within the male population when they enter military service, undergoes some form of taekwondo training. No other country in the world integrates martial arts in such a wide-ranging manner. Hence, this article aims to explain the broad integration of taekwondo into the public and higher education system and the military of South Korea. Subsequently, this study details taekwondo as a career opportunity in South Korea, which is highly unique among nations. Lastly, this article focuses on the broadening and specialization of taekwondo activities with the spread and popularization of ‘demonstration’ and ‘forms’ taekwondo. In summary, this article aims to explore these phenomena and contribute new insights to the field of Taekwondo Studies.

Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to examine a different distribution of grammar items in Korean language education depending on spoken formal and informal register. To do so, this author constructed a list of grammar items in Korean language education by compiling grammar items published in Korean grammar dictionaries and grammar books. Then, the Sejong Corpus was reconstructed to build a spoken formal/informal reference corpus and analyze the frequency of grammar items. The frequency of grammatical items was used to calculate G2, based on which grammatical items with formality were suggested. The results of this study hold significance as they provide objective register information which can be utilized in Korean language grammar education and assessment or register descriptions in grammar dictionaries.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to discover and enumerate the elements of the digital library and measure how much an individual library was equipped with the characteristics of the digital library accordingly. Design/methodology/approach – For this purpose several steps were taken. First, research on the characteristics and the representative services of the digital library were comprehensively reviewed. Second, examples of the library services that were being considered for the next generation digital library were investigated to compare with the conventional library services. Third, the elements of the conventional and the digital libraries initially extracted were examined by ten experts. These experts were composed of researchers and professors specializing in digital libraries, and career librarians who had worked in the digital library field for at least ten years. The elements were verified through discussions with them. Fourth, 19 university libraries, 16 public libraries, and 17 special libraries were selected in accordance with the verified elements of the conventional and the digital libraries to measure the digitization level of the libraries. Findings – The following is a summary of the evaluation of the first eight evaluation items, which are covered in Part 1 of this study. The remaining five items will be covered in Part 2. First, the digitization level of the acquisition element and classification and cataloguing was significantly high. Second, book collections excluding “digital video,” reference service, library program service, and space service showed significantly conventional characteristics. Third, in the element of circulation services, the item of lending books offline and returning the books scored 92.64 and the item of lending-returning with use of smart devices and social media obtained significantly low scores. Also, the average in using the book return desk for the circulation service was 81.39, much higher than using the automatic book return machine, which scored 18.61, by a wide margin. Fourth, in the element of user services, the digital item of providing support for mobile services related to the library resources demonstrated higher scores than the conventional item, but other items showed more conventional characteristics. In particular, the item of duplication services for material scored 94.99, but other items such as support for publication/bookbinding services using digital publication tools and devices obtained significantly low scores. Originality/value – This study is first study in the world to measure the level of digitization of the library. Therefore, hereafter, each library will be able to measure and determine its digital position based on these elements. Up to now, some research was performed in pursuit of extracting the elements of a library but it has relied solely on literature review. Comprehensive research had never been performed as in this study.

Abstract:
This Present study is used a qualitative method that prioritizes information on the novel text and interpretation it into the analysis. The data was taken from a novel entitled Shine by Jessica Jung, and several journals and books as supporting data. The focus of this study is the main character in the Shine novel, Rachel Kim. This study is about postcolonialism. Rachel Kim had experienced identity issues that occurred in her life. This research aims to describe how the identity issue occurred in Rachel. An overview of the identity issues experienced by Rachel is explained in the discussion of this article. Unhomeliness and hybridity are concepts described in the phenomena that occurred to Rachel. Unhomeliness is a sense of a person caught in two cultures. Hybridity is the strategy of colonized become the part of the colonizer. Both theories analyze the identity issues experienced by the main characters in the novel. The reference used is the theory of unhomeliness and hybridity is to use the concept of Homi. K. Bhaba. Unhomeliness analysis refers to the phenomenon of racism, discrimination, and rejection of the main character. As a result, the main character got mockery jokes and physical appearance toward her. The main character was sorrowful and upset being Korean in America. Furthermore, the analysis of hybridity described in the phenomenon Rachel wants to become a K-pop star. Along with her move from America to Korea, she also got rejected in Korea. The cause of rejection in Korea was because of her American background. Even though she got treated like that, she still struggles to achieve her dream as a K-pop star. The analysis proved the hybridity phenomenon had a relationship with the cause of Rachel's unhomeliness. The result of this study was the main character hybridized her identity. The first perceived experience phenomenon by the main character is unhomeliness and the second is hybridity. Being a K-pop star is made her proud as a Korean. As well as being a K-pop star who has Korean America would make her special in the entertainment industry. Thus, Rachel's identity is not fixed but hybridized.

Yoo, Woo Sik. "Ink Tone Analysis of Printed Character Images towards Identification of Medieval Korean Printing Technique: The Song of Enlightenment (1239), the Jikji (1377), and the Gutenberg Bible (~1455)." Heritage 6, no. 3 (February 28, 2023): 2559–81. http://dx.doi.org/10.3390/heritage6030135.

Full text
Abstract:
To identify printing techniques for medieval Korean books, ink tone analysis of printed characters is proposed. Ink tones of printed character images in two ancient books, The Song of Enlightenment with Commentaries by Buddhist Monk Nammyeong Cheon (南明泉和尙頌證道歌), designated as Korean treasures in 1984 and 2012, were compared and analyzed. Both books have been misidentified and disclosed by the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea as woodblock-printed versions from the Goryeo dynasty of Korea in the 13th century. Ink tone analysis showed clear differences in brightness histograms between printed characters on the two books, suggesting printing technique differences. Statistical ink tone analysis of printed characters in the two books revealed totally different brightness (or darkness) histograms of pixels, within inked areas, suggesting differences in printing techniques and materials used for the two books. Ink tone analysis was performed for the Jikji (直指: metal type printed in Korea in 1337) and the Gutenberg Bible (metal type printed in Europe around 1455) for comparisons. As additional references, the ink tone analysis was conducted for two sets of old Korean books titled Myeongeuirok (明義錄), printed in 1777, and Sok-Myeongeuirok (續明義錄), printed in 1778, using both metal type and re-carved woodblocks. The Gongin version of The Song of Enlightenment, designated as a Korean treasure in 2012, showed very similar distribution and average brightness of ink with the metal-type-printed books from Korea and Europe from the 14th to 18th centuries. All metal-type-printed books from Korea and the Gutenberg Bible showed spotty prints with lighter ink tones and more symmetrical histograms compared with woodblock-printed Korean books from the 14th to 18th centuries. Ink tone analysis of printed character images can provide additional insights into a printing technique identification method. It is additional evidence for metal type printing of the Gongin version (空印本) of The Song of Enlightenment, designated as a Korean treasure in 2012. The version of interest is the world’s oldest extant book, printed using metal type in Korea in September 1239, as indicated in the imprint. This predates Jikji (1377) by 138 years and the 42-line Gutenberg Bible (~1455) by 216 years.

Abstract:
To understand the process of publication and distribution of ancient Korean novels under the Joseon dynasty and Japanese occupation, collecting information on the publication of various printed materials and estimating their publication date through various methods is extremely important. In this study, the characteristics and differences that appeared in the woodblock printing process were investigated using image comparison among editions of the Honggildongjeon (Tale of Honggildong) of Wanpanbon (完板本) (published in the Jeonju region) with other commercial editions of the ancient Korean novels. Additionally, the publication year of each edition was estimated. Printed images of different versions were compared with those of a recently discovered original series version and the changes in the process of carving replacement woodblocks were investigated and summarized. Various phenomena, such as differences in fonts, borderline shapes and integrity of printed characters, appearing in woodblock prints provided useful information for determining chronological relationships between the prints and estimating the approximate publication year for each edition. The various characteristics of woodblock printing obtained through this study are expected to serve as a reference for estimating the relationship between the printing method and the approximate publication date of old books and paper-based printed historical records.

Abstract:
A Review of: Zhang, Li. "Citation Analysis for Collection Development: A Study of International Relations Journal Literature." Library Collections, Acquisitions, and Technical Services 31.3-4 (2007): 195-207. Objective – To determine primary type, format, language and subject category of research materials used by U.S. scholars of international relations. Also, to investigate whether research method, qualitative or quantitative, can be correlated with the type and age of sources that scholars use. Design – Citation analysis. Setting – Research articles published in three journals on international relations with high impact factors: International Organization, International Studies Quarterly, and World Politics. Subjects – A random sample of cited references taken from the 410 full-length research articles published in these journals from 2000 to2005. Cited references of articles written by authors of foreign institutions (i.e., non-American institutions), as well as cited references of editorial and research notes, comments, responses, and review essays were excluded. Methods – Cited references were exported from ISI’s Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) to MS Excel spreadsheets for analysis. Data was verified against original reference lists. Citations were numbered and identified by source format, place of publication (foreign or domestic), age, and language used, if other than English. The author used a random number generator to select a random sample of 651 from a total of 29,862 citations. Citations were randomly drawn from each journal according to the proportion of the journals’ citations to the total. These citations were analyzed by material type and language. The author also used the Library of Congress Classification Outline to identify the subject category of each book and journal citation in the sample. A separate sampling method was used to investigate if there is a relationship between research methodology and citation behaviour. Each of the original 410 articles was categorized according to research method: quantitative, qualitative or a combination of the two. Two articles representing qualitative research and two representing quantitative research were randomly selected from each of the three journals for each of the six years. Subsequently, five citations from each of the resulting pool of 72 articles were randomly selected to create a sample of 360 citations. These citations were analyzed by material type and age of source. Main Results – Analysis of the citation data showed that books (including monographs, edited books, book chapters and dictionaries) made up 48.2% of the total citations; journals (including scholarly and non-scholarly titles) made up 38.4% of the citations; and government publications made up 4.5% of the citations. Electronic resources, which primarily refer to Web sites and digital collections in this study, represented 1.7% of the citations. Other sources of citations included magazines (1.1%), newspapers (1.1%), working papers (1.1%), theses (0.9%), conference papers not yet published as articles (0.6%), and a miscellaneous category, which included items such as committee minutes, radio broadcasts, unpublished materials and personal communications (2.5%). The average age of book citations was 14.3 years and the median age was 8 years. Foreign language citations represented 3.7% of the 651 total citations. The top ranked foreign languages were German (7), French (5), Russian (4), Spanish (3), Korean (2) and Swedish (number not given Subject analysis of the citations revealed that 38% of all citations were from international relations and two related disciplines, political science, political theory, and public administration. Subject areas outside international relations included social sciences (23.4% - including economics, commerce, industries and finance), history (16.3%), sociology (6.2%), and law (5.9%). Citations from philosophy, psychology, military science and general works together made up 7.3% of the total citations. Citations from science, linguistics, literature, geography and medicine made up less than 2% of the total. Authors of qualitative research articles were more likely to cite books (56.7%) than journals (29.4%) while authors of quantitative research articles were more likely to cite journals (58.3%) than books (28.9%). Authors of qualitative research articles were also more likely to cite government publications and electronic resources than those of quantitative articles. However, authors of quantitative research articles were more likely to cite other materials, such as dissertations, conference papers, working papers and unpublished materials. The age of cited materials for both qualitative and quantitative research articles is similar. Citations to recent materials up to 5 years old were most frequent, followed by materials 6 to10 years old, materials 11 to15 years old, and those 26 or more years old. The least frequently cited materials were 16 to 20 and 21 to25 years old. Conclusion – Scholars in international relations primarily cite books, followed by journals and government publications. Citations to electronic resources such as Web sites and digital collections, and to other materials are far less common. Scholars primarily cite English-language materials on international relations and related subjects. Authors of qualitative research articles are more likely to cite books than journals, while authors of quantitative research articles are more likely to cite journals than books. Recent materials are more frequently cited than older materials, though materials that are more than 26 years old are still being cited regularly.

Abstract:
Purpose: It was intended to measure the sound intensity of children's sound books and to compare them with the standards of Korea and the International Standards Organization (ISO).Methods: The loudness of 15 children’s sound books was measured at a distance of 25 cm (child’s arm length), and 2.5 cm length of external auditory canal. Measurements taken three times with each book were performed, and the overall sound intensity of the sound books and the sound intensity of each button were measured and compared. Results: Compared with the Korean standard, all the buttons of all books exceeded the standard for the sound volume of the children’s book measured at a distance of 2.5 cm. When comparing the maximum sound intensity measured at a distance of 25 cm with 85 LAmax, a total of 168 buttons of these, 25 (14.88%) were recorded as exceeding the maximum loudness. According to the standards of the ISO, all buttons in all books were below the standard 85 LAeq.Conclusion: Several children’s books are loud enough to cause noise-induced hearing loss, especially when they are placed close to the ear. Strict standards for sound children’s books are required, and it is important to put a warning on the cover of the book. It is expected that the sound intensity of the children’s sound book presented in this study can be referenced when referring to the loudness during hearing rehabilitation in children.

Niniejszy artykuł stanowi analizę reportażu Barbary Demick „Światu nie mamy czego zazdrościć” w kontekście budowania obrazu Korei Północnej i Koreańczyków z Północy w Polsce. Abstract:
After reading the first few pages of this text, the reader may be left wondering "exactly what is this book attempting to accomplish?" At first glance, it looks like a college textbook. And indeed, Chapter 1 (Overview of Local Government in Korea) very much reads this way. After an introductory section in Chapter 2 (Structure of Local Government), however, the form of the book takes a dramatic turn. The Preface opens with a statement of the two purposes of the book, "first, to provide factual information about Korean local politics for those who are interested in Korea's system of local government; and second, to offer definitive reference resources to foreign scholars, students, practitioners, diplomats, and others who have an interest in the evolution of Korean democracy." Referring back to the Table of Contents after reading further in Chapter 2, one realizes that this is more of a "book of facts" than an analytical treatise. In this regard, the book is a solid success: it provides detailed facts about the legal structure of Korea's system of local government. It discusses the evolution and effect of Korea's Local Autonomy Act (and relevant decrees), and a translation of the lengthy Local Autonomy Act is included in an appendix. Clearly, the book is a useful reference on the law of local autonomy for those of us less than fluent in Korean. On the other hand, politics and democracy are hardly discussed beyond a few rhetorical platitudes in the first and last chapters.

Abstract:
Department of Korean Tea Culture, Gyeongsang National University, Gyeongnam 52725, Korea Abstract The differences in opinion between Korean and Chinese researchers on the uses of tea utensils found in the underground relic of Beop-Moon Temple motivated this study. They perceived the use of same object found in the underground relic in different ways. Books, academic papers, and dissertations newly published in China were referenced as a methodology for the specification of the problem since literature data and related research results in Korea are lacking. The results showed that Yukeumeunkuhaband Yukeum-inmulhwaeundamja not tea utensil, but fragrance utensil. And during this period, the royal family's brewing method was in a transitional period developing from Jeon-cha method to Jeom-cha method. The tea utensils excavated from Beop-Moon Temple were used in the tea drinking method, in which powdered tea is put in and then burnt with a spoon. This study intended to recognizes the problems and necessity of research on the use of tea utensils found in underground relic, and based on the research data, to approach tea utensil found in Beop-Moon Temple, which is a standard at that time, more objectively.

Abstract:
This review is devoted to a brief discussion of the book ‘Rock Art in East Asia’, published in 2019. The general structure of the book is presented. The review reveals principles of preparing and summarizing data on the rock art of the regions comprising East and South-East Asia, set forth by the editors of the volume. The high quality of the work based on this approach concerning singular sites such as those in Korea, Japan and the Russian Far East is noted. At the same time, a critical analysis of the book’s shortcomings caused by the chosen scheme of description of the material when an attempt to describe a region rich in rock art sites inevitably leads to hasty tongue twisters, is given. For example, some chapters have minimum References or none at all. In summary, the reviewed book is a useful reference edition, though descriptions of certain sites or groups of sites from the regions of Mongolia and China adjacent to Central and South-East Asia, rich in rock art given in it should be treated with extreme caution.

By describing what the initial scriptures were written about and when the general codification of the Koran was agreed upon became the main global reference, it could be understood by educated people, especially the laity. As we already know that the Koran in general is initially a complex thing, meaning that the process of occurrence requires stages that are not instantaneous. Various concepts related to the scriptures, such as “God, Angels, Revelations, Prophets,” are often understood as taken forgranted. Likewise the process of revelation of the Qur’an, such as narration, writing, gathering and opening, is often not a concern. This paper intends to discuss the Qur’an from a Historical-Theological perspective. Other things accepted in dogma, such as God's word, verse structure, spelling, and structure of the text, are questioned again by positioning in the historical context at the time the revelation was revealed and then written. The emphasis of this paper is on the process of sacralization of the Koran having a long journey and intersecting with the historical events of the Muslims between the aural and the codification of ‘Uthmānī. Briefly, outlining the history of revelation and writing of the Koran becomes a “holy book” for religious communities. The process of sacralization of the "holy book" cannot be separated from the increasingly mature written tradition of human life that is complex. But does not deny the tradition of previous writings, such as the Bible or books of the Jews and Christians. Because the tradition of writing al-Qur’an is imitating from previous books. Is that right?.

Abstract:
This paper criticizes the views of previous researchers regarding the book Tafsir Tarjuman Mustafid by Syekh Abdurrauf As-Singkili, this book is declared not a book of interpretation and is a translation of several other books of interpretation. To set it straight, the author describes the references and uniqueness of the Tafsir Tarjuman book with samples of Surah al-Fatihah and al-Baqarah which are discussed in detail.analysis. Research on references aims to analyze the sources of quotations contained in the book and the uniqueness aims to present the character of Sheikh Abdurrauf As-Singkili's interpretation in interpreting the verses of the Koran in the Tafsir Tarjuman Mustafid book. To achieve this goal, the author uses a type of literature research with a qualitative nature and uses a library method for data collection techniques that come from primary data and secondary data. After all the data needed is collected, then use the pattern tahlili in data management then the findings are described in the form of analysis. The results of the writing show that, it is true that there were errors from previous researchers regarding their views, the author's findings can prove that it was true that as-Singkili interpreted ayat by ayat and word by word and other commentary books were only used as references, and even found many uniqueness in his interpretationsBased on the results of the writing, there are several references from al-Baiḍawi 6 times, al-Khazin 21 times, al-Jalalain 2 times and Manafi' Alquran as well as aṡ-Ṡa'labi 2 times. All references are collected as a complement to the interpretation of as-Singkili to make it easier to understand . As for the uniqueness, it is divided into two discussions, namely: a) the uniqueness of the presentation which is equipped with signs such as, interest, story, beginning, as for, the word, that is, the above and tanbih, all the signs are packed in parentheses so that they are easy to find, b) the uniqueness of the content the interpretation of as-Singkili includes special features in the explanation of surat, ayat, interpretations, ikhtilaf qiraat, asbabun nuzul, kisah and nasikh mansukh, all tend to have the same pattern and words in the beginning and end of the explanation so that it is easy to understand even by the general public. Abstract:
The article is devoted to the analysis, evaluation, reviewing of Valeriy S. Han’s monograph “Historiography of the Koreans of Central Asia: Main directions and stages of development”, published in 2021. The book certainly deserves it, as it has a number of undoubtedly important merits. First, it is voluminous and comprehensive (624 pages and more than 630 references and sources used); second, it is highly relevant. There have been virtually no historiographic works summarizing and classifying the already very rich database (more than a thousand of publications on the Koreans of tsarist Russia, the USSR, and the CIS, and hundreds of publications on the Koreans of Soviet and post-Soviet Central Asia) so far. Third, the author critically evaluates numerous publications on Korean studies and is strict with himself as well. He strived to scientifically define the emergence of new global phenomena, including the formation of a new subethnic community and a new global stage in the evolution of the Korean people at the level of a “meta-nation,” explaining the subethnic entity, “Koryo Saram”, based on strict scientific principles and extensive discussions with leading experts in Korean studies from various countries. Fourth, the uncompromising desire to achieve a rigorous scientific approach based on the standards, principles, and criteria of academic science in Korean studies both in their own country and in other post-Soviet states amidst the currently widespread pseudoscientific, amateur exercises in the field of “supposedly Korean studies”.

Abstract:
Objective – This study sought to determine the characteristics of research materials used by history students in preparing their master’s theses. Of which information resources formats did such students make use, and in what proportions? What was the age distribution of resources used? What was the dispersal over journal titles and over subject classification, i.e., the degree of interdisciplinarity? To what extent did the master’s students make use of non-English-language materials? To what extent did their institution’s library hold the resources in question? The investigator was especially interested in finding quantitative support for what he terms two “hypotheses.” The first of these is that historical research depends to a high degree on monographs, journal articles being far less important to it than they are to research in, especially, the natural sciences and technology. The second is that the age distribution of resources important to historical research is much flatter and longer than that of resources upon which researchers in the natural sciences and technology rely. Design – Citation analysis, supplemented with comprehensive catalogue searches. Setting – Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU), a mid-sized public university located in New Haven, Connecticut, U.S.A. Subjects – MA and MS theses (N=47) successfully submitted to the Department of History over the period from academic year 1998/1999 through academic year 2007/2008, inclusive. Methods – The investigator initially identified the theses through a search of the online catalogue (“Consuls”) of the Connecticut State University system, and retrieved all of them in either electronic or hard-copy form. He then subjected all citations (N=3,498) listed in the references sections of these theses to an examination in order to identify for each cited resource the format, the age, the language, and, in the case of scholarly journal articles, the journal of publication. He carried out bibliographic searches in order to rectify any citations which he had noted to be faulty or incomplete. The study took no account of possible additional citations in footnotes or endnotes or in the text, and did not measure citation intensity (whether, for instance, a thesis referred only once, or perhaps many times, to a given resource). Duplicates “were ignored.” He furthermore performed systematic searches in Consuls and in the Library of Congress (LC) online catalogue in order to establish, insofar as possible, into which assigned LC Classification class each resource fell, and whether it belonged to the holdings of the SCSU library. “Holdings,” as used here, includes physical resources owned, as well as those resources to which the library has licensed access. Not marked as either “held” or “not held” were: resources available online without restriction or charge, items not identified in either Consuls or the LC catalogue, and all government documents. Ages of cited resources were calculated based on the edition or version date actually given in a student’s citation, without any consideration of a possible earlier date of the original version of the publication or document concerned. Main Results – Format, age distribution, and journal frequency. The local citation analysis found that 53.2% of all cited resources were monographs, 7.8% were scholarly articles, 5.3% were contributed chapters in books, and 0.6% were dissertations or theses. Non-scholarly periodicals accounted for 15.7%, government documents for 6.7%, and freely available web documents for 4.1%. The remainder, approximately 6.5%, comprised archival papers, judicial documents, directories, interviews, posters, audiovisual materials, and 13 other formats. Cited resources, measured back from the date of acceptance of the citing thesis, ranged from 0 to 479 years old; the mode was 3 years, but the median was “25” (p. 170) or “26” (p. 177) years. Just over 70% (i.e., 2,500 cited resources) were more than ten years old. Almost one thousand of the cited resources were fifty or more years old. The 274 scholarly journal articles included in the references sections were spread over 153 distinct journal titles, of which 105 titles made only one appearance, and 136 titles three or fewer appearances. The mean was 1.8 appearances. Subject dispersal and language. Of the 2,084 cited resources for which LC classification was locatable, 51.5% had a classification other than history, i.e., other than class C, D, E, or F. Nearly two thirds (66.0%) of the cited scholarly journal articles had appeared in journals with a focus other than history. (Note: table 4 is incorrect, precisely reversing the actual ratio.) Of all cited items, 98.5% were in the English language. Half (27) of the non-English-language resources cited were in Korean, all cited in the same thesis. Books (i.e., monographs plus compilations from which contributed chapters were cited) accounted for 87.0% of foreign-language citations. More than four fifths of the examined theses (83.0%) cited not a single non-English-language resource. Local holdings. Of all 3,498 cited items, 3,022 could be coded as either “held” or “not held” by the SCSU library. Of the items so coded (not, as indicated on p. 180, of all cited items), scarcely two fifths (41.0%) belonged to the library’s holdings. The holdings percentage was highest (72.6%) for the 274 scholarly journal articles cited, followed by the 186 contributed chapters (50.0%), the 550 non-scholarly periodical items (49.5%), and the 1,861 monographs (46.8%). For other cited formats, the percentage was much lower, and in some cases, e.g., for the 55 archival and the 44 judicial documents, it was 0.0%. Of the 54 foreign-language resources cited, the institution’s library held only two. Conclusion – The investigator concludes that his study’s findings do indeed lend quantitative support to his two “hypotheses.” This outcome will surprise few, if any, librarians; it is in accord with what Koenig (1978) long ago saw as a matter of “intuition” and “all conventional wisdom,” something that many subsequent studies have confirmed. Sherriff accordingly recommends, firstly, that collections which strive to support historical research should, in matters of acquisition policy and budget allocation, take serious account of that field’s relatively strong dependence on monographs. Secondly, the data on age distribution carry obvious implications for librarians’ decision-making on matters such as de-accessioning and weeding, relegation to remote storage, and retrospective acquisitions. This finding should also be considered, for instance, in connection with preservation policy and the maintaining of special collections. He even suggests that librarians “need to teach students the value of reviewing literature historically and showing them how to do so effectively” (p. 177). Sherriff considers a number of further (tentative) conclusions to be warranted or suggested by the results of this study. First of all, that historical research is now characteristically an interdisciplinary matter, in the sense that it requires extensive access to information resources, including journals, which libraries have traditionally not classified as belonging to the discipline of history itself. For a library supporting such research, this phenomenon “has implications for matters including collection budgets, reference work, bibliographic instruction, and the location of collections and departmental libraries” (p. 168). It also means “that librarians working with history students and history collections need to be aware of the relevant resources in other disciplines. This can improve reference work, research assistance, and bibliographic instruction; it may also help the coordination of acquisitions across departmental lines” (p. 179). Secondly, one may conclude that “there is no ‘core’ collection of journals for history” (p. 178) which will be able to satisfy a large proportion of master’s students’ research needs. Thirdly, the fact that a library such as SCSU’s holds significantly less than half of what master’s students require for preparing their theses “may exercise a narrowing effect on students’ awareness of the existing literature on their topics” (p. 180), “increases the importance of departmental faculty, reference librarians, and subject specialist librarians drawing students’ attention to resources beyond the library’s catalogues and collections” (p. 180), and requires that the library give serious attention to effective document delivery arrangements. Finally, this study’s finding that only a small percentage of master’s students in history made use of non-English-language materials, but then in certain cases used them rather extensively (27 Korean items cited in one thesis, ten Italian in another, nine Spanish in yet another), suggests that acquisition, or at least proactive acquisition, of such materials needn’t be a priority, as long as, once again, the students concerned have easy access to efficient and affordable document delivery services. Sherriff does concede, however, that his finding could indicate “that students are unaware of relevant resources in other languages or are aware of them but lack the language skills necessary to use them” (p. 179).

Abstract:
Interest and reading power are latent problems that occur in students and educators. On this basis, a government policy was issued in Permendikbud Number 23 of 2015 concerning the School Literacy Movement (GLS). One of the mandatory efforts is reading 15 minutes of non-lesson books every day (story books or other books). This study aims to analyze the implications of the school literacy movement using picture story books as media. The type of this research is qualitative with literature study method. The research materials and analysis studies are obtained through scientific reference sources, including books, articles, proceedings, theses, theses, and dissertations. These scientific sources are obtained through credible sites, such as Google Scholar, DOAJ, and SINTA. The results of this study indicate that the activities of the school literacy movement through the media of picture story books have a significant impact on students' reading power and interest. This is in terms of increasing students' knowledge insight, motivation to read books in students, and forming active literacy characters in students. The GLS stages include 15 minutes of reading pre-learning picture story books, reading prayers, reading verses of the Koran in short suras, singing the national anthem, and strengthening the teacher for the previous meeting's teaching materials. Thus, students are increasingly moving to get used to and love the world of literacy

The article deals with the linguistic and cultural sketches in the book “A Voyage to Japan, Kamtchatka, Siberia, Tartary and various parts of the coast of China; in H.M.S. Barracouta” (1859) by John M. Tronson. The travel notes of the English author remain almost unknown in Russia. The only exception is the reference to this book by Peter Leopold von Schrenck in “Essay on Physical Geography of the Northern Sea of Japan” (1869). The linguistic and cultural content of the book presents to readers various descriptions of the Chinese, Manchu, Japanese, Korean languages, as well as the language of the Tungusic people (mistakenly taken for the Nivkh (in the book — Gilyak) language by John M. Tronson). At the same time, the interest is attracted by the Peoples of „Japan, Kamtchatka, Siberia, Tartary and China” perception of English as a mean of communication with the representatives of the European civilization. The author´s reference to the words from Japanese, Chinese, Korean and other languages is being perceived as a pioneering stage in creating in the middle of the XIX century European awareness for the culture of the Russian Far East Peoples (chiefly concerned with living environment). Regardless of being episodic, the linguistic and cultural descriptions in John M. Tronson´s travel notes are essential for the similar literature genres. The notes of the English author are regarded as the part of other travel works on Russian Far East, i.e. “Frigate ‘Pallada’” (1853-1857) by Ivan A. Goncharov. The Russian author provides not only personal observations but also scientific information on the emergence and evolution of the other Peoples languages. John M. Tronson introduces the words of foreign sound and origin, and familiarizes his readers with the realities that are absolutely new and unusual for European conscience. By acquainting with “new” world (through the reproduction of what we see, hear and interpret) different educational tasks that are bound to travelling and its genre varieties (travel notes, sketches, essays, adventures and others) are realized.

Abstract:
Why do states want to acquire nuclear weapons? In other words, what drives nuclear-aspiring states? This is the basic question that the author seeks to address in this research. To do so, this research will focus on two standout cases: Iran and North Korea. By employing structural realism as a tool of analysis, the author argues that it is the structure of the international system that drives both Iran and North Korea to acquire nuclear weapons of their own. Specifically, it is the highly unequal distribution of power both regionally and globally that encourages both states to go nuclear. At the global level, both Iran and North Korea found themselves in hostilities with a much more powerful state, the United States. The hostilities and the fact that the United States is way more powerful increase the fear of being attacked in both countries. Similarly, at the regional level, both states face neighbors that are relatively more powerful and have alliances with the United States. Thus, this imbalance of power and the fear it created in both Iran and North Korea give them great incentive to go nuclear, as nuclear weapons would act as a deterrent against any possible aggression. This research is qualitative and based on the literature study data collection method. Abstract:
This paper intends to discuss how the morals of the Prophet's wives, which are summarized in Surah Al-Ahzab verses 28-35, used as directions, references, and instructions for women. The wives of the Prophet are the mothers of religious people so that it should be used as an example by Muslims, especially for women. In analyzing Surat Al-Ahzab verses 28-35, the writer uses the library research approach, with the primary data source is Buya Hamka's book of Tafsir Al-Azhar. and for the secondary data, the writer uses various books and journals that are relevant with the topic. This paper concluded that according to Buya Hamka interpretation, the morals ordered by Allah SWT to women in Surat Al-Ahzab verses 28-35, is to choose the afterlife over the temporary world or implementing simple life, not to commit heinous acts towards others, such as condemning, cursing at people, stealing, slandering, because it can drop a woman's honor, speaking well, politely, firmly, not weak and flirtatious, staying at home, not overly made up and dressed up, worshiping (reading the Koran, giving charity, Fasting, Dhikr) with khusyu, and clear from all the qualities that defile the heart (envy, arrogance, envy, and greed).

Abstract:
The concept of self-evaluation is an achievement of oneself. Which in every day we must have made mistakes. For this reason, it is necessary for each individual to evaluate every immoral act or act prohibited by Allah SWT in order to make us human beings who are of a higher quality before Allah SWT. The purpose of this study is to find out the concept of self-evaluation in the Koran. This research is included in library research (Library Research), namely research conducted using literature (library) in the form of commentary books such as the interpretations of At-Tabari, Ibn Katsir, Al-Azhar, Sya'rawi, and Al-Misbah, as well as books, theses or journals that study related to the concept of self-evaluation which is descriptive analysis, namely analyzing from several interpretation books taken as a reference. The approach used in this study is the Maudhu'i (thematic) interpretation method approach, namely looking at themes related to the concept of self-evaluation in the Koran. The method used is the content analysis method, namely analyzing the interpretation of the mufassir figures on verses related to self-evaluation. Based on the results of the research that the writer has done, it can be concluded that the writer does not find many verses that directly discuss self-evaluation, but here the writer takes several verses and the interpretations of the commentators related to self-evaluation. The author takes the interpretations of Imam Ath-Tabari, Ibnu Katsir, Buya Hamka, Imam Asy-Sya'rawi, and M. Quraish Shihab. Which they explain the need to evaluate themselves by leaving all the immorality that is forbidden by Allah and doing good deeds ordered by Allah, where each of these deeds will be accounted for in the afterlife.

Abstract:
Early childhood cognitive development makes it possible to understand language quickly through memorizing meaningful words or sentences as opposed to memorizing meaningless words or sentences. Learning to write is more complex than learning to read. because writing skills require the support of the occipital lobe, auditory brain, main motor system, reflex nerves/peripheral nerves and are supported by gross motor skills. Learning is at the core of the educational process, meaning that the success of an educational process can be seen from the success or failure of the learning process. This study aims to determine the management of learning the Koran, the introduction of learning to read and write the Koran is one of the musts that must be given to early childhood as part of the Muslim community. Data collection techniques in this study were carried out by collecting and analyzing primary data sources from books, articles and research results that had been carried out by previous researchers. The data analyzed is relevant to research on learning to read and write the Koran for early childhood. findings from several references describe how the implementation of learning to read and write the Qur'an for young childe.

Abstract:
Technological progress cannot be hindered because today, education is entering the industrial era 4.0 characterized by education that uses digital technology in the learning process. With the use of this technology, the learning process is not limited to space and time. The terms religious knowledge and general science should not exist. Science is one unit because its source is from the Koran. This study aims to explain technological innovation in the integration and interconnection of science in Islamic higher education. This research is a research library. Therefore, what is done is exploring several data by examining in-depth reference sources from national and international journal articles and reading books relevant to the research. The data collection method that researchers use is by collecting books, articles, journals, and opinions which reveal and study the Interconnection Integration. The study results indicate that the integration and interconnection of knowledge can be achieved if learning refers to the principles of integration between Hadarah an-Nash, Hadarah al-Ilm, and Hadarah al-Falsafah. Technological advances can be used to achieve these goals, such as e-learning, digital learning resources, and teleconferencing.

Abstract: In ‘El acto del libro’, Borges returns to the Quixote and reinterprets the ‘cartapacio’ of Cide Hamete Benengeli as prophetic and magical. Branding his proposition a ‘fantasía’, he hints at common ground with the belief systems of Islam and Christianity, specifically their doctrines of predestination and free will. Consideration of certain theories regarding the sources of both the Koran and the Bible leads to the assertion of a metaphysics of the book that encompasses some key areas and motifs in Borges’s wider œuvre. Abstract:
Looking into the institutional functioning and economic management of the country, the book investigates the causes of Pakistan’s poverty and also suggests ways to achieve sustainable prosperity. Following the prologue, the book is organised in five parts. The first part traces the human evolution and the quest for economic and social progress, and the relation between individuals, state, and economic development through history. Part two talks about some basic concepts linked to economic development and human welfare. These include: gross national product and productive capabilities; stages of transformation of an economy; and what history tells us about how the poor became rich. Part three presents the author’s views on the Washington Consensus policies and how it led to the domination of the neoliberal economics, and its role in creating a poverty trap. A comparison of four Asian countries and their pathways to economic development, or lack of it, is presented in part four of the book. Looking at the economic development history of South Korea, China and India, Riaz explains how and why Pakistan lags behind all these countries. The last part of the book focuses on normative economics, and recommends policies, which if implemented, can help build Pakistan’s economy and transform it into an efficient and vibrant welfare state. This book can be of interest specifically to policy-makers and academicians, but it can be a good read for anyone interested in understanding persistent poverty in Pakistan and measures needed to get out of it.

Abstract:
Science is very closely related to revelation (the Qur'an), because both are sourced from Allah SWT. So this study aims to find a correlation between science, especially astronomy and revelation (Al-Quran) so that it can be a reference in view of the correlation between science and the Qur'an. Al-Qur'an contains miracles, one of which is I'jaz ilmi. I'jaz ilmi can be seen from the truth of the Qur'an which is proven in later scientific studies. This research is novel because it discusses the meaning of Lafaz al-Kawkab in the perspective of the Koran and the wisdom of its use in the Koran, as well as scientific facts about the planet. This research is descriptive qualitative, while the type of this research is library research. The method used in this study is the Tafsir Muqaran method, which compares various interpretations in the Tafsir books and captures their correlation with science. The results of this study stated that lafaz al-kawkab means planets in the solar system and has a different essence from other celestial bodies. In addition, the Qur'an also describes the nature and characteristics and functions of these planets by distinguishing the term al-kawkab and other celestial bodies in their mention.

Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the concept of children's education in the perspective of the Koran. In this context, the essence of the meaning of the term tarbiyah becomes the basic foundation of research. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method. Data collection and analysis was carried out using scientific reference materials, including scientific articles, books, proceedings and final assignments (thesis, theses, dissertations) which were tracked via the internet on the google scholar indexer, DOAJ, science direct, and scimago JR. The results of this study found that the concept of child education in the Qur'an contains an element of "love" like parental education for children in the concept of tarbiyah. The elements of the concept of education for children in the perspective of the Qur'an describe learning obligations, educational goals, the role of educators, educational objects, educational methods, and educational materials for children. Thus, the education given to children is comprehensively based on the worldview of monotheism in realizing human beings (perfect).

Abstract:
This research aims to analyze how Shahrur's interpretation of the Koran responds to the concept of Muslim women's clothing. This research uses a literature review method with a descriptive qualitative approach. Research data was obtained from national and international journals and reference books over the last 10 years. Data analysis is carried out by collecting data, describing it into units, carrying out synthesis, compiling patterns and making conclusions. The results of this research indicate that the traditional understanding of the hijab and women's clothing in Islam according to Shahrur has been misunderstood and practiced. Al-Quran verses that are often quoted to support Muslim women's obligation to wear the hijab, such as Surah An-Nur verse 31, are not intended to suppress or limit women, but rather to protect them from potential violence and sexual objectification in society at that time. Shahrur argues that traditional interpretations of these verses have ignored their social-historical context.

Humans are creatures that Allah SWT created perfectly from the essence of the soil, then become nuthfah, then become mudzgoh and become bones wrapped in meat to form the human body. With this perfection, the human task is always to be grateful and to maintain this potential. Al-Qur'an invites people to think about the origin of humans about their creation. Because in the human body there is a sign of great power that shows the majesty of Allah SWT. The research method in this journal uses a type of qualitative research with a literature approach. The data was collected by searching related reference book sources. After the data is obtained then the data is analyzed and some additions from the researcher. In this study, researchers found several results and conclusions in the discussion of the human body in the Koran, that the verses of Allah on the human body are very clearly explained in the Koran, which at that time had no biological research.
