Full textSyftet med uppsatsen är att analysera DVD-omslag för genren romantisk komedi från 2000-talet för att få fram mönster och koder som ges från genren. Det teoretiska ramverket består av tidigare forskning som analyserat olika affischer - samt teorier om semiotik, genre och visuell retorik. Dessa teorier används för att svara på frågeställningen och för att hjälpa till vid analysen. En kvalitativ innehållsanalys har analyserat tio olika DVD-omslag för genren romantisk komedi. Filmerna som analyserats är från USA och anses som höga inom Box Office. Begreppet Box Office står för hur många biljetter som har sålts och hur mycket pengar en film tjänat in. Användingen av siffor från Box Office visar att filmen hade en lyckad marknadsföring innan den kom ut på DVD, vilket gör att den används för denna analys. Analysen fokuserar sig också bara på filmer från år 2003 – 2012 då man får ett mellanrum på tio år och filmerna blir samtida. Resultatet från den kvalitativa metoden visar att det finns koder och mönster som ges från olika DVD-omslag. Visuella uttryck som kläder, vinklar, perspektiv, kroppshållning, ansiktsuttryck och färger påverkar mycket hur ett DVD-omslag uppfattas och säger mycket om hur genren visualiserats. Det är också viktigt att dessa visuella uttryck arbetar ihop då de tillsammans berättar något om relationerna, karaktärerna och vad filmen kommer att handla om. Slutsatsen visade att kvinnan oftast är den som är i fokus och aktiv. Detta betyder inte nödvändigt att kvinnan är i en högre position i samhället eller att hon kommer alltid att ha övertaget i relationen, men att hon styr just nu. Det är också tydligt att DVD-omslagen inte visar när paren är lyckliga i alla sina dagar.

Full textMy essay is about the latter period of Anne Charlotte Leffler’s authorship. In Part I of my essay, I describe her path from the 1880s, where she described femininity as a shortcoming, as writes Ingeborg Nordin-Hennel, towards the 1890s and towards describing femininity as a possibility. This development took place on two levels – on an outer level, where all the woman writers in the late 1880s were influenced and where they were pushed out by the male writers, and on an inner level with Leffler herself.
Her late literary works depict new and more independent types of women, and eroticism is given a more prominent position. In Part II, I study Tre komedier (Three Comedies) which was published in 1891 and which includes the plays Den kärleken (Love is Strange), Familjelycka (Family Happiness), and Moster Malvina (Aunt Malvina). In my opinion, they are early expressions of the New Woman fiction. For my analysis, I use the criteria of genre for the New Woman fiction that is defined by Ebba Witt-Brattström. New Woman fiction is a lost link between the literature of social protest of the 1880s and female modernism. That characterizes, among other things, a new type of woman, who is intellectually and sexually aware. The plot is often contradictory and open-ended which allows scope for interpretation. The protagonist usually has a girlfriend or another woman, whom she can use as a mirror, and there is a new women’s “sistership” emerging, and the urban setting is yet another characteristic. The protagonist often stays at a boarding house or is out on a journey. The new male character is a weakling as opposed to the bourgeois masculinity. These features are distinct in Tre komedier. However, I have discovered a few more criteria.
I also discuss how Leffler, in the comedic form, delivers a pronounced criticism of society. In Tre komedier, the bourgeois matrimony, the bourgeois family, and the treatment of unmarried women are focused upon and criticized. The three plays differ very much from one another in the dramatic forms. Lynn R Wilkinson considers that they are among the first modernistic comedies, and they point forward to authors such as Wilde, Shaw, and Chekhov.

Full textThis study examines how the identificatory process in fumblecore games plays out according to Cohen’s dimensions about identification. To examine this, an artifact was developed based on three theories on humour (Superiority Theory, Incongruity Theory and Relief Theory) as well as prominent characteristic elements that defines games within the genre. The survey was conducted on twelve respondents where data was collected through observation, questionnaires and qualitative interviews where the questions were based on Cohen's four dimensions about identification (emotional empathy, cognitive empathy, motivational identification and absorbing identification) in order to measure this. The result showed that respondents project their own feelings and goals on the character and use this as a means of performing their desired actions. Thus, it is rather the character that takes on the player's identity and embraces his perspective and goal rather than the player who takes on the character’s.

Full textThe ambition with this essay is to create a general idea of how modern research estimates the hierarchic division of the Christian angels, as Dante accounts for in The Divine Comedy, as well as the hierarchy it is based on. In addition to that, the connection between the hierarchy and the cosmological functions of the angels, and the subsequent task to uphold the world, is analyzed. An important factor for the comprehension of Dante’s angelology is its connection to the philosophy and Christian faith of the late medieval period; how it was affected by – and at the same time affected – its context, which eventually contributed to the generation of the modern Western world view. In fact, the theological discourse that expands from the first centuries of Christianity reaches a summit in Dante’s angelic hierarchy, where faith and philosophy finally consolidate. Thus, Christian angelic doctrine, with starting point in the Bible, meets in Dante the neo-platonic doctrine of emanation and Aristotle’s principle of causality, which together count for the foundation of the Western late medieval view of reality. The aim of this essay is consequently to investigate Dante’s angelic hierarchy and the cosmological functions of the angels, by investigating the assimilation of faith and philosophy that constitutes their metaphysical base.

Full textThis essay deals with how female characters are portrayed in romantic comedies by studying the "Manic Pixie Dream Girl"-phenomenon closer. This concept leads to misunderstandings about women's roles in the world of cinema and creates discussions about equality and Western storytelling. The purpose of this essay is to study two women in two different romantic comedies and study if they meet the criteria Nathan Rabin, the man who coined the term “Manic Pixie Dream Girl”, has announced to be qualities of a Manic Pixie Dream Girl and whether it is justified to argue that the female characters maintain sexist ideals. The theoretical basis on which the essay is based primarily comes from feminist theory, but also from Laura Mulvey’s theory of scopophilia and “the male gaze”. To analyze the selected material I have chosen to use a customized method of character analysis. The results show that, despite the fact that the female characters may meet some or more of the criteria Rabin have announced, the material does not directly imply that the characters are one-dimensional and, in extension, improbable and unreal portraits of women in general.

Full textThe purpose of this thesis is to analyze the movie Scott Pilgrim vs the World (2010) way to use transitions and cuts and how they relate to humor and comedy. Three sequences that represent a breadth of different techniques and theories from cuts gets analyzed and explored. This to understand how transitions, for example a wipe, gets used, how the movie progresses with continuity editing and how the movement contributes to the editing and to the comedy. With the help of Walter Murch's theories about what motivate a cut, Bordwell and Thompson’s theories about how cuts and transitions is used and what impact this has on the movie and Rosengrens theories about editing comedy and Meyers (2000) theories about humor, the essay investigate editing techniques and transitions and how they are able to move the movie in space and time or transfer a motion in a transition. The result shows that Edgar Wright, Jonathan Amos and Paul Machliss uses a lot of different techniques to develop a visual style and in Scott Pilgrim vs the World (2010) the focus lies on how motion, energy, movement and comedic timing drives the movie forward and perceived it as a comedy.

Full textThe aim of this study is to find out if dramatic structure is essential to the sitcom's ability to entertain and make audiences laugh. This study is a comparative analysis of the more humorous American situation comedy Friends and the less humorous Swedish situation comedy Svensson, Svensson. However, as no major structural flaws are found in either situation comedy the conclusion must be that dramatic structure does not impact on a sitcom's ability to amuse.
Denna uppsats undersöker huruvida den dramaturgiska strukturen är en förutsättning för att en situationskomedi ska fungera väl – det vill säga, vara underhållande och locka till skratt. I en komparativ analys av den mycket väl fungerande amerikanska situationskomedin Friends och den mindre bra svenska situationskomedin Svensson, Svensson framkom dock inga större strukturella brister hos något av analysobjekten. Följaktligen är inte den dramaturgiska strukturen avgörande för slutresultatets förmåga att roa.

Full textIn this essay we will be looking into the teqniques which Charlie Chaplin used to tell his stories, both when it comes to plot, visual and auditory storytelling, in an attempt to find out if these techniques still would work in a comic film production today. We will take a closer look at how he used the camera while filming and cutting, how he structured his stories to allow for the optimal amount of slapstick gags, how he would make use of different contrasts, how he structured his sound compositions and finally how he would act both in front and behind the camera so we then can apply this on a short film of our making.

Full textNamera studije jeste da se celokupni dosadašnji dramski opus Vide Ognjenovićsagleda u širem kontekstu savremene srpske dramaturgije i književne tradicije. Ovakavzadatak podrazumeva analizu primenjenog literarno-dramaturškog postupka, tematsko-motivskih odrednica, žanrovskih i stilskih osobenosti, jezičkog izraza,karakterizacije likova, odnosa prema istorijskim, političkim, ideološkim, kulturnim,socijalnim i drugim društvenim fenomenima. Za realizaciju tako definisanog ciljaistraživanja, bilo je neophodno formirati svojevrsni koordinatni sistem. Unutarsistema jedna osa predstavlja najznačajnije autore i njihova reprezentativna dela, koji suključni za razvoj savremene srpske drame od Drugog svetskog rata do prve decenije ovogveka, a druga osa označava književnu tradiciju kao nedvosmislenu ishodišnu tačku ikreativnu inspiraciju. Rad je podeljen u tri organski povezane celine: „Savremenasrpska drama”, „Dramski opus Vide Ognjenović” i „Književna tradicija kao kreativnainspiracija
This study is aimed at offering an overview of the entire dramatic oeuvre of VidaOgnjenović to date within the wider context of the contemporary Serbian dramaturgy and literarytradition. This objective entails an analysis of the literary-dramatic procedure used, as well as thethematic-motif determinants, distinctive features in regard to genre and style, linguisticexpression, characterisation, attitude towards historical, political, ideological, cultural, social andother societal phenomena. In order to accomplish the objective of research thus formulated, itwas necessary to form a singular coordinate system. One coordinate axis represents majorauthors and their representative works, which bear crucial significance for the development ofthe contemporary Serbian drama from World War II to the first decade of this century, while theother axis represents literary tradition as an unambiguous point of origin and creative inspiration.The study is divided into three organically related units: ‘Contemporary Serbian drama’,‘Dramatic oeuvre of Vida Ognjenović’ and ‘Literary tradition as creative inspiration’.
