Abstract:
In my work as speech and language pathologist I often meet people emerging from coma andtheir experiences intrigue me. Coma is an eluding human condition that offers a challenge formodern science and our view on body and mind. In my Master project in Creative Writing Iwanted to try to enter this zone that is so hard for a clinician to reach: the personal experienceof being in a coma. By writing HUSK MIDAS I have tried to create a realistic fiction based onresearch on coma state and real-life stories of people waking up from coma.In my exploration of the coma state I found that lucid dreaming is common apart fromdreaming, many patients experience sensory inputs like sound and touch which aremisinterpreted and woven into dreams and creating a feeling of confusion and fear.Coma is a frequent theme in literature and film but is often depicted unrealistically andmisleadingly. A few works like Artur Lundkvist’s Journeys in Dream and Imagination andthe film The Descendents by Alexander Payne show a more reality based fiction. While themedical care has the responsibility to provide accurate information and make important healthcare decisions regardless of possible public misconceptions, fiction helps us to dramatize thecoma experience and bring to life this marginalized and otherwise non-communicable state ofthe human condition.

Kurs: Examensarbete i Logistik, 30 hp Författare: Matilda Svensson och Hanna Delius Handledare:Petra Andersson Examinator: Helena Forslund Titel: Framtida förbättringsmöjligheter för kombi- och omlastningsterminaler - En fallstudie på Alvestas kombi- och omlastningsterminal Nyckelord: Kombi- och omlastningsterminaler, intermodala transporter, utnyttjandegrad, interna och externa faktorer   Arbetets syfte är att identifiera och analysera interna och externa faktorer som uppstår på kombi- och omlastningsterminaler samt att analysera hur utbudet på kombi- och omlastningsterminaler kan utvecklas för att möjliggöra ökad utnyttjandegrad.   Arbetet har besvarat tre frågeställningar:
    Vilka interna och externa faktorer har lett till att kombi- och omlastningsterminalen i Alvesta inte når önskad utnyttjandegrad?    Interna faktorer: kompetens, typ av gods, lagring, hantering av gods/ej synkroniserat, ej elektrifierade spår, informationshantering, typ av utrustning, ej kontinuerligt flöde, utrymme och markunderlag. Externa faktorer: Lagar, dieselskatt, vägslitageskatt, konjunktur, befolkningsmängd, buller, nya innovationer, IT-system, infrastruktur, Andra kombi- och omlastningsterminaler, leverantörer, kund och lastbil.  
      Hur kan kombi- och omlastningsterminaler i Sverige möta externa faktorer i framtiden? I utförandeplanen kom författarna fram till att det är viktigt för kombi- och omlastningsterminaler att inte bara fokusera på intermodal verksamhet. Det är även viktigt att ha ett effektivt IT-system som kan användas och hantera många och komplexa flöden. Järnvägen är lönsam med gods som är tungt och som kan fraktas långa sträckor därför borde kombi- och omlastningsterminaler kolla på möjligheten att transportera gods till andra länder och inte bara inom Sverige. Sedan borde kombi- och omlastningsterminaler kolla på möjligheten att förlänga spåren som finns på terminalen för att kunna hantera längre tåg. Den sista förbättringslaget är att kombi- och omlastningsterminaler borde kolla på att automatisera hanteringen.   Hur kan kombi- och omlastningsterminalen i Alvesta utvecklas, genom att möta identifierade interna faktorer, för att möjliggöra för ökad utnyttjandegrad?   För att öka utnyttjandegraden har författarna till arbetet kommit fram till att Alvestas kombi- och omlastningsterminal borde ha flera transportoperatörer, förbättrad lagerhantering, stuffa containrar, hantera virkespaket, använda cross-docking, hantera farligt gods, utökade öppettider, bättre markunderlag, elektrifierade spår, hantera timmer, implementera ett intermodalt transportsystem, investera i ett lagringstält, automatisering kring hantering och omlastning.

Asian-American dance study is an integration of dance studies and Asian-American studies. The existence of social and political stereotypes on Asian-American dancers often categorizes them into an oriental labeling. The labeling of Asian-American dancers based on their ethnicity and their culture’s history in the United States and not considering the artists’ intent and the nature of their works cause this orientalism bias. Due to lack of researches in the past, older generations of Asian-American dancers in the United States fell victim to this oriental labeling. Anything that the public did not seem to understand often led them to believe what they were seeing was foreign. It is not about the issue of racism that this study intends to bring, but rather this study will focus on the Asian-American dancers’ place of belonging in the American society. Eiko & Koma, two renown Asian-American dancers, have an extensive performance career throughout their lives traveling from Japan to Europe in the early 1970s and eventually settling down in the United States in 1976. Eiko & Koma witnessed through the social, economic, and political changes in the United States from the mid-1970s to present. This research will focus on the perceptions on Asian-American dancers by the American society both in the past and the present and address the issues that revolve around them primarily through the works of Eiko & Koma and their career history.

Abstract:
Today's technological development means that organizations are constantly evolving. This means that the market, which the organizations operate in, is constantly changing and becoming more complex to interpret. This development increases the demand to forecast possible outcomes and receive real-time information from the operations – i.e., obtain the most accurate data for decision-support. To make this possible, organizations need so-called ‘decision support systems’; IT-tools that rapidly provide decision makers with information based on relevant data. To obtain the highest possible value from the systems, they must seamlessly integrate and interact with the organization. This study examines how decision support systems, organizations and users relate to each other in an organizational context. The aim is to provide an insight into the limitations and possibilities of human behaviour, technological development and organizational structure to create and enable relevant and effective decision support systems. The paper’s theoretical framework is based on Orlikowski’s (1992) structurational model. The empirical material consists of semi-structured interviews, which are analysed based on Orlikowski’s model. The results show that although there is a common understanding on how the different factors should interact in order for the decision support systems to function the respondents neglected their own influence as users of the systems.
Dagens teknikutveckling medför att organisationer hela tiden utvecklas och förändras. Det i sin tur medför att den marknad organisationer agerar på förändras och blir alltmer komplex att tolka. Denna utveckling ökar efterfrågan att förutspå sannolika utfall, få information om verksamheten i realtid, kort sagt få ett korrekt beslutsunderlag. För att detta ska vara möjligt behövs IT-verktyg som snabbt kan förse beslutsfattare med underlag som grundar sig på relevanta data, så kallade beslutsstödsystem. För att få ut mesta möjliga värde från beslutsstödsystemen ställs höga krav på att de integreras och samverkar med organisationen. I studien undersöks hur beslutsstödsystem, organisationer och användare förhåller sig till varandra i en organisatorisk kontext. Målet är att ge en inblick i de begränsningar och möjligheter människors agerande, teknikens utveckling och organisationens struktur skapar för att möjliggöra relevanta och effektiva system för beslutsstöd. Studiens teoretiska ramverk tar sin utgångspunkt i Orlikowskis (1992) struktureringsmodell. Det empiriska materialet utgörs av semistrukturerade intervjuer som analyseras med utgångspunkt från Orlikowskis modell. Resultatet visar att även om det överlag finns en förståelse för hur olika faktorer bör samspela för att beslutsstödsystemen ska fungera, tonar respondenterna ner sin egen betydelse som användare av systemen.

Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka lärares uppfattning om utomhuspedagogik och erfarenhet av att undervisa i utomhusmiljö. Respondentundersökningen utgick från de fyra frågeställningarna: Hur uppfattar lärare utomhuspedagogik? Vilka erfarenheter har lärare av att undervisa i utomhusmiljö? Hur uppfattar lärare elevers lärande i utomhusmiljö? Är det ett effektivt lärande som lärarna beskriver utifrån David Kolbs ”The Experiential Learning Cycle”? Kvalitativa intervjuer användes som metod och genomfördes på tre olika grundskolor i mellersta Sverige. Den ena skolan har en miljö/naturprofil, de två andra skolorna har inte en miljö/naturprofil. Det insamlade materialet bearbetades med hjälp av en tematisk analys, samt utifrån David Kolbs erfarenhetsbaserade cirkel – ”The Experiential Learning Cycle”. I studien redovisas lärarnas uppfattningar och erfarenheter, resultatet visar att lärarna uppfattar utomhuspedagogik som ett praktiskt arbetssätt där lärandet blir konkret. Skogen och skolgården är platser som lärarna använder vid undervisning utomhus. I studien framkommer det både positiva och negativa erfarenheter av att förlägga undervisningen utomhus. Positiva erfarenheter är bl.a. att undervisning utomhus är konkret och praktisk, öppnar andra sinnen och undervisning utomhus uppfattas även vara ett bra komplement till undervisning inomhus. Det är framförallt ämnena naturkunskap och matematik lärarna beskriver att de använder i undervisningen utomhus. Negativa erfarenheter lärarna beskriver är bl.a. att det är svårare med koncentration utomhus och att lyssna. Tid, schema, väder och säkerhet är också några gemensamma hinder för utomhusundervisningen bland några av lärarna. Lärarna uppfattar att eleverna blir motiverade av undervisning utomhus och att det är ett praktiskt arbetssätt, vilket underlättar för elevernas förståelse. Lärarna beskriver även att det är lättare med samarbeta utomhus och att de elever som har svårt för att sitta still i vanliga fall särskilt gynnas av utomhusundervisningen. Utifrån Kolbs ”The Experiential Learning Cycle” är det inte ett effektivt lärande som lärarna beskriver i denna studie. Lärarna i denna studie beskriver utomhuspedagogik som ett praktisk och konkret arbetssätt där eleverna får egna erfarenheter. För att lärandet ska vara effektivt krävs det att elevernas erfarenheter omvandlas enligt processen i ”The Experiential Learning Cycle”, vilket det inte gör utifrån lärarnas beskrivningar i denna studie.

Abstract:
An experimental study into the attunement of lectures to students' learning styles, in which analysis was undertaken on 77 students, from the degree disciplines of Physiotherapy, Statistics, Nursing and Psychology. The aim of the study was to discover if students perceived that they had learnt more effectively in lectures attuned to their learning styles, as predicted on the basis of Kolb (1984). The students were presented with four lectures each attuned to a different learning style, at the end of each lecture they were asked to assess their perceptions of the lecture and learning within the lecture via a questionnaire. The results indicated that there were no significant differences in the students' perceived learning within attuned lectures when compared to the non-attuned lectures. This contradicts the connection Kolb claims between approach and learning style. Close examination of Kolb's learning style theory revealed a number of serious anomalies and internal inconsistencies within his work (Claimed negative correlations between dialectic pairs, mixed learning styles and questionnable support for learning styles from split brain research). These theoretical anomalies were suplemented by experimental results that indicated that learning styles were not stable over time. The implications of this analysis are discussed in detail. Finally speculative further investigations were carried out to in an attempt to provide a more appropriate interpretation of Kolb's work. This further work yielded interesting results that are reported and would merit further study.

Abstract:
Vave is generally defined as a corpus of agricultural songs as they are sung and performed by Bajuni farmers - an ethnic subgroup of the Swahili - on the eve of burning the bush, a stage of slash and burn cultivation. Although the song’s main theme is agriculture and each cultivation step in particular is given attention, an analysis of the aesthetics of Vave from the viewpoint of oral literature unearths the secret and sacred dimension of Vave performance. Death, bereavement, resurrection, and spirituality are, besides agricultural cultivation, the basic aspects of the Vave. Indeed the Vave performance may be more correctly recognised as an ancient religious rite which has ancestral worship as a central issue. Although the worship of ancestors is irreconcilable with the Islamic belief system, Vave is still performed by the Muslim Bajuni farmers today. This essay attempts to outline in which way the ancestors are annually remembered, revived or actualised in the present by Bajuni farmers through the performance of an oral tradition.

This thesis attempts to quantify the impact of kombi-taxis on the conventional modes of public transport, in particular the bus, in the Cape Town Metropolitan Area. The impact is quantified in terms of the resultant modal shift of commuters from the buses, trains, cars and walking, in favour of the kombi-taxi. The approach adopted involved a study of the kombi-taxi and bus operations and characteristics on the different kombi-taxi routes in the study area. Five representative routes were selected for a detailed study, involving an Observation survey and an Interview survey directed at the bus and kombi-taxi users on these routes. On a further 66 routes, a bus-taxi modal split survey was conducted. The findings of the study show• that the majority of present kombi-taxi users are former bus users. Conservatively, an estimated 30.6% of all the daily bus passenger trips have been lost to the kombi-taxi. The effect on trains has not been insignificant with an estimated 4.4% of all commuter train trips having been converted to kombi-taxi trips.

This thesis is based on a case study of an organizationalchange-project within Civil Engine at Volvo Aero Corporation.The changeproject was aimed to create an organization built oncollaboration, which differs radically from traditionalindustrial work. Existing boundaries between the blue- andwhite-collar workers were meant to be erased and work would beperformed and decisions thereby be taken by that or thosepersons who are most appropriate. The co-workers demand on workshould be satisfied as well as the enterprises demand onefficiency and longterm competitiveness. The projects goalswere not fulfilled, but it could have been a first step towardsa radical transformation of how work can be organized. As theproject did not come out as expected effects of a verticalintegrated organization cannot be concluded. The discussion istherefore mainly about possibilities and obstacles in work ofradical changes.

The main topic is to analyse what a vertical integratedorganization can be and what meaning it has for the employeesand the enterprise. This thesis contributes to a tentativemodel with four types of difficulties, to be noticed toincrease the possibilities for successful radical changes:

Further on this thesis contributes to define a supposedorganization built on collaboration according to Volvo AeroCorporation and to relate it to the conceptions onpost-bureaucratic and post-Tayloristic organizations.

Under 2014 sökte fler än 74 000 människor asyl i Sverige för att komma undan bland annat krig och förföljelse. Det är Migrationsverkets uppdrag att ge människorna bostäder under asyltiden. Men antalet asylsökande har under de senaste åren ökat och när fler kommer räcker inte myndighetens boenden till. De får då hyra tillfälliga asylboenden av privata aktörer. Syftet med detta examensarbete har varit att undersöka hur öppnandet av ett privat asylboende har påverkat en mindre ort i Sverige och de människor som bor och verkar där. Ambitionen har varit att bidra till medierapporteringen med en bredare och nyanserad bild. Orten som ligger till grund för studien är Storfors, en gammal bruksort i Värmland. Det material som utgör studien är intervjuer med åtta personer: den privata aktören, en granne, bibliotekschefen i Storfors, kommunalrådet i Storfors, enhetschefen på Migrationsverket i Karlstad samt tre asylsökande. Arbetet utgörs av en radiodokumentär vars innehåll visar på att öppnandet av ett privat asylboende har väckt mycket reaktioner i Storfors. Såväl politiker, kommunalt anställda, grannar som entreprenören själv och de asylsökande som bor i asylboendet har uppfattningar om situationen. Den ovanstående journalistiska delen av examensarbetet kompletteras en reflektionsrapport var grundläggande teori, svårigheter, etik, källhantering och journalistiska tekniker diskuteras. This thesis is based on a case study of an organizationalchange-project within Civil Engine at Volvo Aero Corporation.The changeproject was aimed to create an organization built oncollaboration, which differs radically from traditionalindustrial work. Existing boundaries between the blue- andwhite-collar workers were meant to be erased and work would beperformed and decisions thereby be taken by that or thosepersons who are most appropriate. The co-workers demand on workshould be satisfied as well as the enterprises demand onefficiency and longterm competitiveness. The projects goalswere not fulfilled, but it could have been a first step towardsa radical transformation of how work can be organized. As theproject did not come out as expected effects of a verticalintegrated organization cannot be concluded. The discussion istherefore mainly about possibilities and obstacles in work ofradical changes. The main topic is to analyse what a vertical integratedorganization can be and what meaning it has for the employeesand the enterprise. This thesis contributes to a tentativemodel with four types of difficulties, to be noticed toincrease the possibilities for successful radical changes: •obstacles of first order•obstacles of second order•resistances of first order•resistances of second order Further on this thesis contributes to define a supposedorganization built on collaboration according to Volvo AeroCorporation and to relate it to the conceptions onpost-bureaucratic and post-Tayloristic organizations.

Entreprenörskap har blivit ett snabbt växande ämne inom den akademiska världen och flertalet svenska lärosäten på eftergymnasial nivå erbjuder idag utbildningar inom ämnet. Samtidigt som ökningen skett gradvis har synen bland forskare angående om det överhuvudtaget är möjligt att lära ut entreprenöriella färdigheter splittrat forskarvärlden. I denna studie undersöks explorativt hur det kommer sig att entreprenörskapsutbildningar fått en sådan spridning, genom en kvalitativ ansats med intervjuer från ett universitet, en högskola och ytterligare en extern aktör som arbetar för att främja entreprenörskap. Det insamlade materialet har analyserats med hjälp av den nyinstitutionella teorin, där begrepp som homogenisering, legitimitet, spridning och översättning av idéer har varit dom primära analytiska verktygen. Resultatet tyder på att spridningen varit en effekt av ett ökat intresse kring entreprenörskap, som bland annat verkar bero på att det entreprenöriella livet karakteriseras och sprids med hjälp av sociala medier. Utbildningarna verkar även ha tvingats genomgå en homogenisering på grund av institutionella krav som ställs på utformningen av utbildningarna. Resultatet tyder även på att spridningen av programmen kommer som följd av en ökad akademisk acceptans kring entreprenörskap som ämnesområde, då kvaliteten på den forskning som bedrivs förbättrats.

Läsarna kommunicerar genom läsarkommentarerna i fanfiction-versionen och frågeställningen besvaras genom att studera utvalda kommentarer i kommentars sektionen. Analysen fokuserar på att studera vilka attityder läsarna uttrycker samt om de distanserar sig eller sympatiserar med huvudkaraktärerna. De huvudsakliga teorierna för studien handlar om textuniversum, receptionsteori och romance. Metoden är närläsning. Uppsatsen visar hur det bildas olika tolkningsgrupper och fangemenskaper som stödljer olika åsikter, normer och attityder.

Studien undersöker vilka erfarenheter, handlingar och omständigheter som hbtq-flyktingar inkluderar i sina asylberättelser under utredningar hos Migrationsverket och i migrationsdomstolarna, och vilka berättelser som uppfattas som trovärdiga respektive icke trovärdiga av asylhandläggare och domstolarna. Material består av domstolsmaterial från 10 asylärenden som åberopar fruktan för förföljelse på grund av sexuell läggning, könsidentitet och/eller könsuttryck, samt intervjuer med två tidigare hbtq-flyktingar, en tidigare handläggare på Migrationsverket och ett offentligt biträde. Resultatet visar att hbtq-flyktingen förväntas att detaljerat kunna redogöra för sitt inre känsloliv relaterat till sin hbtq-identitet, och att beskrivningar av sexuell aktivitet och vaga sakuppgifter om relationer inte anses vara tillräckliga. Hemlandets attityd mot hbtq-personer förväntas vara så pass diskriminerande att hbtq-flyktingen inte kan få skydd där, samt att hotbilden ska vara aktuell och berättas på ett sammanhängande vis. Därtill har det framkommit under studien att uppfattningar om en trovärdig hbtq-flykting är färgade av heteronormativa och västerländska förståelser, exempelvis att hbtq-flyktingen förväntas definiera och berätta om sin hbtq-identitet utifrån en västerländsk hbtq-terminologi.

O homem produz conhecimentos científicos e tecnológicos que interferem em seu cotidiano. Para que todo cidadão possa compreender como essas novas tecnologias vão afetar a sua vida se faz necessária uma compreensão do conhecimento básico a respeito da genética, dos mecanismos de transmissão das características hereditárias, bem como de genética molecular, da estrutura do material genético, o DNA. Nessa fase, o aprendizado, conforme descrito por Kolb (1984) pode ser compreendido como um processo de ressignificação da realidade, que ocorre por meio da relação dialética entre as experiências anteriores e a reflexão com relação a novas informações adquiridas pelo sujeito. Este mesmo autor, com base nesse processo dialético de aprendizagem, desenvolveu o ciclo de aprendizagem experiencial composto por quatro modelos de aprendizagem: experiência concreta (EC), a observação reflexiva (OR), a conceitualização abstrata (CA) até alcançar a experiência ativa (EA). Por meio dos modelos expostos e da relação dialética entre eles, Kolb desenvolveu categorias de estilos de aprendizagem (acomodadores, assimiladores, convergentes, divergentes) nas quais seria possível verificar o perfil que se adequa a cada fase do aprendizado. O ambiente cultural em associação com o ambiente de ensino estabelece o estilo de aprendizado de cada aluno influenciando no modo de aprender. Desta forma, a cultura e os estilos de aprendizagem caminham correlatos e influenciam no comportamento do aluno. Neste sentido, Geert Hofstede (1980) apresentou um método de identificação de dimensões culturais (distância hierárquica, individualismo versus coletivismo, masculinidade versus feminilidade, aversão a incerteza e orientação a longo prazo). Neste contexto, este trabalho foi desenvolvido com alunos de biologia do ensino médio de uma escola particular de Guaratinguetá-SP para trabalhar o conceito do DNA objetivando especificamente: verificar a existência de predominância de algum estilo de aprendizagem, bem como, detectar a existência ou não de congruência entre os estilos de aprendizagem dos alunos e as dimensões culturais de Hofstede. Foi possível também usar a estratégia \"Ensinar ao redor do ciclo de aprendizagem de David Kolb\" para propor ações de melhoria da qualidade e da aprendizagem. Nesta etapa, utilizou-se o sistema de resposta interativa (clikers). O sistema interativo de respostas é uma tecnologia portátil por meio da qual o professor consegue medir o grau de entendimento dos alunos em sala de aula sobre determinado assunto, de forma imediata. Como resultado tem-se que o grupo de alunos em que a aprendizagem foi baseada no ciclo de David Kolb levando em consideração as atividades baseadas no perfil cultural dos alunos apresentou coeficiente de variação menor do que o outro grupo, ou seja, o desempenho dos alunos foi mais homogêneo em termos de nota, provavelmente pela abordagem baseada nos diferentes estilos de aprendizagem destes alunos. Assim, levar em consideração os estilos de aprendizagem e as dimensões culturais do grupo de alunos contribuiu para praticamente duplicar a média final deste grupo em relação ao outro grupo de alunos. Desta forma, acredita-se que a partir do momento que o professor entender que suas atitudes pedagógicas podem ser alteradas em função do grupo ocorrerá uma aproximação do professor e aluno de uma forma mais significativa para melhorias efetivas na educação de nosso país.
Men produce scientific and technological knowledge that interfere in their daily life. In order to have every citizen understand how these technologies will affect their lives, it is necessary a basic genetic understanding, as well as the understanding of the mechanisms of genetic inheritance transmission of traits, molecular genetics and the structure of DNA. In this phase, learning, as described by Kolb (1984), can be understood as a process of resignification of reality, which occurs through a dialectical relation between previous experiences and the thinking regarding new information acquired by the individual. Kolb, based on this dialectical learning process, has developed the four-stage learning cycle: immediate or concrete experience (CE), reflective observation (RO), abstract conceptualization (AC) and the active experimentation (AE). Through the exposed models and the dialectical relation between them, Kolb has developed categories of learning styles (accommodating, assimilating, converging and diverging), in which it would be possible to verify the profile that fits in each phase of the learning process. The cultural environment together with the teaching environment will determine the learning style of each student, influencing his way of learning. Therefore, culture and learning styles are correlated and influence the student\'s behavior. In this way, Geert Hofstede (1980) has presented an identification method of cultural dimensions (power distance, individualism versus collectivism, masculinity versus femininity, uncertainty avoidance and time orientation). Within this context, the current research was developed with biology high school students from a private school in Guaratinguetá - SP, in order to work the concept of DNA, aiming specifically to verify whether there is the existence of prevalence of any learning style, as well as to find out whether the congruence between the learning styles and the cultural dimension of Hosfede exists. It was also possible to use the strategy \"teaching around Kolb learning cycle\" to propose improvement actions in learning quality. This phase used the system of interactive response (clickers). This system of interactive response is a mobile technology through which the teacher is able to immediate measure the students\' level of understanding of a subject in the classroom. As a result, it could be observed that the students who had their learning based on David Kolb learning cycles, taking into account tasks based on the cultural profile of the students, presented a lower variation coefficient. That is, the performance of this group was more homogeneous in terms of grades, which is probably due to the approach based on different learning styles of these students. Therefore, taking into account the learning styles and the cultural dimension of the group of students contributed to increase nearly two times the final average of this group, comparing to the other group of students. It is believed that by the time the teacher understands that his pedagogical attitudes could be modified according to the group, this teacher will get closer to his students in a more substantial way, so as to achieve improvements in the education in our country.

politicized music, the movement communicated its cause, told the struggle of the movement and aimed to mobilize the masses. In addition to this, music has functioned as a field where the collective identity of the movement as well as the Kurdish identity is constructed. As the Kurdish movement did not possess the institutional and ideological apparatuses of the national state in its national identity construction process, music started to play an important role. Through modernization of Kurdish folk music, the identity is constructed as a modern and authentic one. In addition, with the political lyrics of the songs, the national elements such as common language, common history and the imagined territory are constructed, popularized, and canonized. Despite their counter-hegemonic position, koms have articulated elements of the hegemonic discourses as well.

Detta arbete är ett projekt som inriktat sig på att ta fram en lösning för ett problem med slakande kedjor i en av Komatsu Forests skogsmaskiner. Uppgiften var att konstruera en automatisk kedjespännare som skulle dra åt de slakande kedjorna när så behövdes. Krav och mål ställdes upp för projektet. Även avgränsningar sattes upp och sedan utformades en teori för problemet. Utifrån teorin kunde en metod tas fram för att kunna angripa och lösa problemet på ett så bra sätt som möjligt. Projektet genomfördes och resultatet blev fyra lösningar på problemet som presenterades i resultatdelen. De olika lösningarna angrep problemet på lite olika sätt men skulle på ett teoretiskt plan lösa problemet utifrån den givna teorin och avgränsningarna. Dock valdes en av lösningarna ut som den bästa och för den lösningen togs även tillverkningsunderlag fram. Om resultatet skulle tas vidare och en fysisk prototyp skulle tillverkas så skulle den eventuellt kunna lösa problemet med de slakande kedjorna.
This work is a project aimed at developing a solution to a problem with loose chains in one of Komatsu Forest's forestry machines. The task was to construct an automatic chain tensioner that would tighten the loose chains when needed. Requirements and goals were set for the project. Limitations were established and then a theory was developed for the problem. Based on the theory, a method could be developed to address and solve the problem the best way possible. The project was followed through and the result was four solutions to the problem. The different solutions addressed the problem in different ways but would theoretically solve the problem based on the given theory and limitations. However, one of the solutions was chosen as the best and for that solution, a production base was also taken. If the result were to be continued and a physical prototype would be manufactured, then it could possibly solve the problem of the decaying chains.

Choreography inherently theorizes a relationship between bodies and space. My research pushes beyond the reach of the dancing body to the idea that choreography serves as a nexus of the politics of place and space, constructing a multiplicity of inter-relationships among bodies, sites, and technologies. In my dissertation on the US-based Japanese dancers, Eiko & Koma, I argue that the pair's choreography does exactly this, effecting as a result new spaces—which I term spaces apart—where alternatives to the dominant society may be rehearsed and entrenched binaries such as nature/culture and east/west may be challenged. By honing in on what kinds of spaces are generated by particular choreographic practices and to what ends. I propose a new framework for examining choreography that could be extended to artists in other fields, one that is not based in chronological or biographical (and thus historical) accounts, but one that takes space as its literal and metaphorical point of departure. This is a crucial new methodology because it illuminates recurring cycles and clusters of focus in Eiko & Koma's work, something that traditional accounts fail to grasp. In the dissertation, I establish four different types of spaces apart generated by Eiko & Koma's choreography, including spaces for mourning, reparation, interfacing with nature, and intercultural alliances. I analyze key dances from across the duo's repertoire alongside selected places that resonate with the choreography in order to elucidate the qualities and effects of each space apart. I then examine each space apart in the context of a larger grouping of dances, demonstrating how Eiko & Koma have adapted and regenerated particular spaces apart over the course of their four decades-long collaboration. My project is centered on the study of 24 stage, site, and video dances by the pair, representing approximately half of their body of work. The analyses I undertake draw from Dance Studies, Asian American Studies, Japanese Studies, and interdisciplinary theories of space and place. My work on Eiko & Koma builds on pioneering studies on Asian American performance in order to expand the field to include research on dance. I contend that Eiko & Koma's unique choreography provides an analytic lens through which to examine Asian and Asian American performance in the context of globalization, and demonstrates changing strategies for addressing questions of nationality, identity, diaspora, location, and intercultural collaboration.

The aim of the work is to analyze production function, Cobb-Douglas production function and create logistic Cobb-Douglas production function model using logistic functions for labour and capital evaluating. The main tasks are to review production function and its features, analyze Cobb-Douglas function and logistic capital accumulation models. After analysing Cobb-Douglas production function and logistic accumulation models propose logistic Cobb-Douglas production function model. Measure the coefficients of this model, and use it to calculate USA production output in 1899 -1922.Compare the possibilities of Cobb-Douglas production function and logistic Cobb-Douglas production function model to calculate production output. The methods used in the work are the following: general identification method, comparison, deduction, designing, analysis of alternatives, analysis of documents, synthesis, generalization, conversation methods, observation. Results – after analysing Cobb-Douglas production function and logistic capital accumulation models the logistic Cobb-Douglas production function model was created. It outlines the trend of USA production output in 1899 – 1922. It is better than simple Cobb-Douglas production function, because there is no need to find the values of labour and capital every year, because it is very difficult to measure these values. The purpose of this paper is to present the adaptation of Kolb Inventory of Cognitive Styles. The study was carried out with 250 psychology students of both genders from two universities of Lima. A pilot study indicated the need to adapt the instrument. The psychometric analysis included a study content validity and construct validity through the iner-test method. The results showed that the inventory, in its Lima version, has validity ad reliability

Abstract:
Within the context of the general ethnic and cultural 'revival' of post-Soviet society, this thesis is an examination of the Komi ethnic movement that is developing in the autonomous Komi Republic of northwest Russia, and specifically of the attempt to build an indigenous bilingual Komi elite. While the Soviet ethno-federal hierarchy did provide for some development of non-Russian elites, differences between the status of union and autonomous republics in this hierarchy were duplicated in policy on ethnic elite formation. As a people accorded only autonomous republic status, Komi were marginalised within the Soviet system of elite training. Komi did, however, develop cultural elites while the political apparatus remained controlled by non-Komi or at best, by those assimilated Komi fundamentally without a knowledge of the language. Consequently, the Komi movement was very much unprepared to grasp the new political opportunities offered by perestroika and the collapse of the Soviet state and since 1991, several issues have been of increasing significance to Komi: language revival, educational reform, and most importantly rural renewal, as it is in the villages that the majority of the ethnic Komi/Komi speaking population lives. The lack of an experienced political leadership, however, has been a fundamental weakness in the current programme of 'revival'. Recognised early on by the ethnic movement, this problem was addressed in 1994 through the creation of the Finno-Ugrian Faculty (FUF) in the local university (Syktyvkar State University), which I identify as the intended institutional structure for the development of Komi elites. This research explores the strategic and practical debates amongst the emerging post-perestroika Komi leadership, and involves sociological discussion of the issues of rural exclusion, elite recruitment, and perceptions of ethnicity, all taking into consideration the actual and perceived role of the Komi language in society.

Abstract This study analyses environmental concern in the Komi Republic from the contextual perspective. The main research data consisted of thematic interviews of industrial workers (n = 114), teachers (n = 30), administration staff (n = 33) in the towns of Usinsk and Vorkuta in the Northern Komi Republic. In addition, the in-depth thematic interviews of state administrators, scientists and NGO actors are analysed as well as the survey study conducted in several regions in the republic. As a broad theoretical frame the study uses the context model, in which environmental concern in everyday life is interpreted at five closely connected levels. The study consists of four previously published articles, one submitted manuscript and a concluding chapter. As the major theoretical and methodological idea the study presents two different environments: a life-world of the individual, where environmental changes are perceived and experienced in a framework of everyday life, and secondly, global environmentalism’s Environment, which is nowadays in Western discourses viewed as a globe. This study focuses on the life-world perspective, and asks how these two environments communicate with each other in the particular contexts of the Komi Republic. In general, environmental issues hold a low profile compared with other social problems in the Komi Republic. However, the citizens of the Komi Republic are concerned about so-called ’brown‘ environmental issues; that is issues of pollution and waste disposal in their immediate environs. The public’s environmental concerns are mostly about ’ecological risks‘ – the health and well-being implications of environmental degradation. Environmental problems are regarded as part societal transformation. This ’brown‘ environmentalism is understandable in Russia since approximately 60 million Russians now live in zones with adverse environmental situations. Green or global issues are not much discussed among the public of Russia. The findings stress that engagement with the surrounding environment, local conditions and socio-political contexts shape perceptions and framings of environmental change. Local perceptions and local knowledge are still a crucial basis for concern
Tiivistelmä Tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan ympäristötietoisuutta ja -huolta Komin tasavallassa kontekstuaalisesta näkökulmasta. Tärkein osa tutkimusaineistosta koostuu teollisuustyöntekijöiden (n = 114), opettajien (n = 30) ja yritys- ja julkisen hallinnon edustajien (n = 33) teemahaastatteluista Usinskin ja Vorkutan kaupungeissa tasavallan pohjoisosassa. Lisäksi työssä on analysoitu valtion virkamiesten, tutkijoiden sekä kansalaisjärjestöjen toimijoiden teemahaastatteluja sekä tasavallan eri alueilla tehdyn kyselytutkimuksen tuloksia. Tutkimuksessa hyödynnetään kontekstimallia, jossa ympäristötietoisuutta tarkastellaan viiden toisiinsa limittyvän tason kautta. Tutkimus koostuu neljästä julkaistusta artikkelista, yhdestä käsikirjoituksesta ja yhteenvetoluvusta. Tutkimuksen tärkein teoreettinen ja metodologinen idea jakaa ympäristön kahtia: ensimmäinen on yksilön elämismaailma, missä ympäristömuutokset havaitaan ja koetaan arkielämän kehystäminä, ja toinen, globaalin environmentalismin ympäristö, minkä nykyisin ajatellaan käsittävän koko maapallon. Tämä tutkimus keskittyy elämismaailmanäkökulmaan ja kysyy, kuinka nämä kaksi ympäristöä kommunikoivat toistensa kanssa eri konteksteissa. Yleisellä tasolla tarkasteltuna ympäristöongelmat ovat taustalla kansalaisten elämässä verrattuna muihin sosiaalisiin ongelmiin. Komin tasavallan asukkaat ovat kuitenkin huolissaan niin kutsutuista ’ruskeista’ ympäristökysymyksistä eli lähinnä saastumiseen ja erilaisiin jätteisiin liittyvistä ongelmista. Kansalaisten ympäristöhuoli kytkeytyy ennen kaikkea ekologisiin riskeihin – ympäristön pilaantumisen terveydellisiin ja hyvinvointiin liittyviin seuraamuksiin. Näin ympäristöongelmat limittyvät muiden sosiaalisten ongelmien kanssa ja koetaan osaksi yhteiskunnallista muutosta. Tämä ’ruskea’ ympäristöhuoli on ymmärrettävä ilmiö Venäjällä, missä noin 60 miljoonaa kansalaista asuu terveydelle haitallisissa ympäristöoloissa. ’Vihreitä’ tai globaaleja ympäristökysymyksiä ei juurikaan käsitellä Venäjän julkisessa keskustelussa. Tutkimuksen tulokset painottavat lähiympäristöön sitoutumisen ja elämismaailman merkitystä ympäristömuutosten havainnoinnissa sekä yhteiskunnallisten kontekstien vaikutusta ympäristökysymysten kehystämiseen. Paikallisella havainnoinnilla ja tiedolla on edelleen suuri rooli ympäristötietoisuuden muotoutumisessa
