Abstract:
Broad-billed flycatchers of East Siberia, which migrate to winter in south-east Asia south to the Greater Sunda Islands, were first described as new for science by Raffles (1822: 312) from Sumatra under the name Muscicapa latirostris. The species was known as Muscicapa latirostris Raffles (or latirostris in combination with other generic names) for over a century (e.g. Dresser 1902: 252, Hartert 1907: 477, Vaurie 1959: 331), but since the 1930s it has been called either Muscicapa latirostris Raffles or Muscicapa daurica Pallas (see below for the history). This dichotomy continues; some authors prefer latirostris (e.g. Peklo 1987; Stepanân 1990, 2003; Nakano & Murakami 2001; Popov 2004; Kwon et al. 2006; Takeuchi 2007; Kolbin 2008; Gavrilov 2011; Sonina & Durnev 2011), while others prefer daurica (e.g. Banks & Browning 1995; Clarke et al. 2009; Tojo 2009; Mohan & Kumar 2010; David 2011).

Abstract:
* Abstract This study attempts to bridge David Kolb’s theory of Learning Styles Howard with Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences to overcome criticisms to both. The necessity to sequentially achieve Kolb's four learning stages (concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation) and their respective preferred combinations are discussed as an onset. Succeeding that is an analysis of Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences which claims intelligence to be one of eight types of independent arenas of competence, all independent of each other (linguistic. analytical, musical, bodily, interpersonal and intrapersonal, spatial and naturalist). Both theories suffer from certain drawbacks. For instance, Kolb’s theory has sufficient empirical support but lacks scientific backing while Gardner's theory is bereft of empirical support but founded on clinical research on central nervous system. Utilizing a combination of both theories the study examines possibilities to improve quality of education, training and pedagogical advice. The purpose of this study is to examine both theories in detail so as to isolate unique concepts both scientifically accurate and empirically compelling with the intent to formulate a compound theory through active use of pragmatism and quality control. The paper further presents a real life model to overcome impediments faced by the two theories and proposes revisions in learning techniques to facilitate absorption of knowledge and synthetization of information in general educational practice at both amateur and professional level. Keywords: education, learning styles, learning theory, multiple ıntelligences, pedagogical.

Abstract:
Tutkielman rakenne on kolmiosainen. Ensimmäinen osio koostuu aiheen teoreettisesta tarkastelusta ja oppimateriaalin perusteluista, toinen osio on oppimateriaaliin liittyvä opettajan opas ja kolmas kokonaisuus käsittää opiskelijalle suunnatun oppimateriaalin. Teoriaosiossa tarkastellaan lukion opetussuunnitelman perusteiden asettamia vaatimuksia geometrian opiskelumateriaalille sekä perustellaan teoriaan nojautuen valittuja tehtäviä ja oppikirjassa esitettyjä opiskelijalle suunnattuja teoriaosioita. Opiskelijan oppimateriaali koostuu opetussuunnitelman tavoitteita tukevista teoriaosioista, pohdintatehtävistä sekä perustehtävistä. Opettajan oppaassa esitetään suuntaa-antava ajankäytön malli sekä esitellään oppimateriaalin pohdintatehtävien tavoitteita.

Abstract:
As background, the Kolb learning cycle describes an entire cycle around which a learning experience progresses [1]. The goal, therefore, is to structure learning activities that will proceed completely around this cycle, providing the maximum opportunity for full student comprehension of the course material. This model has been used previously to evaluate and enhance teaching in engineering [2, 3, and 4]. Most college education is geared toward abstract conceptualiztion, but complete learning is enhanced by the use of all four learning stages Abstract Hypothesis and Conceptualization, Active Experimentation, Concrete Experience and Reflective Observation. Some parts of this paper were presented at an earlier conference [13]. The Finite Element (FE) method is a numerical procedure that is widely used to analyze engineering problems accurately and quickly in many corporations. It has become an essential and powerful analytical tool in designing products with ever-shorter development cycles [5, 6, and 7]. The use of commercial finite element software tutorials along with the Kolb model of learning has been used for the past three years to instruct undergraduate students in an introductory FE course. This paper provides outlines of the use of the commercial software tutorials using two Kolb learning cycles, a global learning cycle for the course and a micro learning cycle for the FE tutorials. The commercial FE software tutorials provide an excellent method to reinforce student’s retention of this complex numerical procedure. The software tutorials provide hands-on learning experiences that students need to reinforce the theoretical concepts covered in the lectures. The students are provided “Abstract Hypothesis/Conceptual Theory” that begins with the background of the FE method, fundamental mathematics of FE, move through the concept of “stiffness-analysis,” one-dimensional direct stiffness analysis of various structures, the topology of the various finite elements, error analysis of FE results, and concludes with engineering analysis of a typical engineering problem. These activities are interlaced with the hands-on MSC.Nastran1 software tutorials that begin stating the proposed problem in a manner that is “real-world” in nature then the student is supplied with background theory for the analysis they will attempt. The tutorials provide specific instructions on how to build the FE model of the problem using this commercial FEM code. The tutorial includes a step-by-step outline of the problem modeling with text and illustrations. The student then performs the analysis. Instead of doing this in a blind manner, the tutorial provides a connection to the abstract theory of FE and asks the student to perturb certain parameters in the model to predict the results apriori. This causes the students to make connections between the modeling techniques and the IMECE2004-60756 Undergraduate Finite Element Instruction using Commercial Finite Element Software Tutorials and the Kolb Learning Cycle underlying physics. This focuses in on the “Active Experimentation” part of Kolb’s cycle. After the student performs the analysis, they are asked to attempt to explain the differences between the FEM modeling and theoretical results. This requires students to engage in the “Reflective Observation” portion of Kolb’s cycle. In designing the learning experiences to completely transverse the Kolb cycle, students are fully engaged to understand the fundamentals of FE modeling and maximize the learning experience the tutorials provide. Near the conclusion of this course students are asked to develop prototype models of designs for engineering problems using FE and then asked to conduct experiments to verify their FE analysis. The Kolb model describes an entire cycle around which learning experiences progress Abstract Hypothesis and Conceptualization, Active Experimentation, Concrete Experience and Reflective Observation, and is shown below in Figure 1.

Abstract:
In this study, numerical simulations of 3D viscous flutter were performed and compared with the available experimental results. The calculations were carried out for bending oscillations of the cascade known as the Eleventh Standard Configuration. The developed numerical algorithm solves the 3D Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equation together with the Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model, using the explicit monotonous second-order accurate Godunov-Kolgan finite-volume scheme and moving hybrid H-O structured grid. Comparison of the calculated and the experimental results for the Eleventh Standard Configurations has shown sufficient quantitative and qualitative agreement for local performances (unsteady pressure amplitude and phase distribution) at off-design conditions. Benchmark solutions are provided for various values of the inter-blade phase angle.
