Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the effect of globalization, bank specific characteristics and macroeconomics on the performance of banking companies in Indonesia which is assessed based on ROE (return on equity). The variables used in the globalization dimension are the Kof Economic Globalization Index, the Kof Social Globalization Index, and the Kof Political Globalization Index. The variables used in the bank specific characteristic dimensions are bank size and EQASS (equity to asset ratio). While the variables used in the macroeconomic dimension are the inflation rate, GDP (Gross Domestic Product) per capita growth rate, and FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) Inflows part of GDP. This study uses secondary data taken from annual reports published by banking companies from 2010 to 2019. The panel data processing model chosen in this study is the REM (Random Effect Model) model. The results of the analysis of the REM model show that the Kof Economic Globalization Index, the Kof Political Globalization Index, bank size, inflation rate, and GDP (Gross Domestic Product) per capita growth rate have a significant positive effect on ROE (return on equity). Meanwhile, the Kof Social Globalization Index and FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) Inflows part of GDP have a significant negative effect on ROE (return on equity). The variable EQASS (equity to assets ratio) has no significant negative effect on ROE (return on equity). Keywords: Kof Economic Globalization Index, Kof Social Globalization Index, Kof Political Globalization Index, bank size, EQASS (equity to asset ratio), inflation rate, GDP per capita growth rate, FDI Inflows part of GDP

Abstract:
Purpose. To determine globalization threats to the economic sovereignty of transition economy countries based on the analysis and systematization of patterns in dynamics of subindices of the KOF Globalization Index. Methodology. The methods of analysis and synthesis are used to systematize data on the structure and dynamics of the KOF Globalization Index. The method of correlation-regression analysis is used to assess statistical significance of the relation between the KOF Globalization subindices and economic development indicators of the countries of the statistical sample. Findings. It is shown that wide rating opportunities to assess the level of the countrys involvement in the world economic processes are created by index rating systems, one of which is the KOF Globalization Index. The dynamics and structure of de jure and de facto KOF Globalization Index are analyzed. A statistical sampling of the countries has been formed according to the criterion of the level of economic development; the value of the subindices of political and economic globalization of the KOF within the period of 20032017 has been analyzed. It is shown that for all groups of countries in the statistical sampling, the hypothesis of no direct statistically significant relationship between the value of the sub-index of economic globalization KOF and indicators of their economic development can be accepted. At the same time, a direct, mostly strong and statistically significant correlation between the values of the KOF subindex of political globalization and economic development indicators has been confirmed, which proves the importance of choosing a rational vector of foreign policy integration to provide economic development. Originality. Confirmation of the hypothesis of no direct correlation between the level of state involvement in the world economy and the level of its economic development shows the transformation of the idea of openness of the national economy as a prerequisite for its successful development. On the contrary, it allows considering globalization as a source of additional globalization risks for the economic sovereignty of countries with weak economies. Practical value. The obtained results create a basis to develop approaches for assessing vulnerability of the economic sovereignty of countries, which will take into account the determinants of economic globalization and specify the ways to minimize their destructive impact on national economic systems in neo-protectionism.

Abstract:
Received 01.11.2020. The interpretation of the term “globalization” and differences to other terms characterizing the development of the world economy (internalization of the world economy, internal division of labor, regional integration) is given. The main signs of globalization (dynamic of trade volumes, FDI inflows, portfolio investments and international credits; internalization of technical progress; digitalization of economy; development of regional economic integration, global migration; TNC activities; transformation processes in the former socialistic countries) are summarized. The focus is on differences between long trends (since 1970) and actual development after the crisis (since 2010). The legitimacy of introduction of the term “deglobalization” is discussed. The modern model of the globalization (global capitalism) is analyzed. Based on some characteristics of this model (global competition, market fluctuations, unbalanced trade flows, social differences, fragility of the global governance), the critical arguments are considered and opportunities of transition to the new model of globalization in the next future are estimated. The relation of catch-up development and polarization in the era of the globalization is analyzed. The dynamics of GDP development of countries in 1972–2018 are summarized. The focus is on the relation between GDP per capita for countries with high income and countries with both law and middle income. The influences of global activities of countries on the level of GDP per capita are highlighted. The empirical basics are data of KOF-Index. The sample includes countries with both middle and low income which held positions in the ranking in KOF-Index from 27 till 182. The positive interdependence between (based on the KOF-Index) and level of GDP is identified. The conclusion about the potential future of the globalization is given.

Abstract:
It is becoming more and more certain that globalization is not just purely an economical phenomenon; it is exhibiting itself on a worldwide level. Amid globalization’s observable appearances, the most obvious are the larger international mobility of goods and services, flows of finance capital, data and information and most importantly people. On top of that, there are technological progresses and more international cultural interactions, which are facilitated by the enhancement of free trade of large quantities of more differentiated goods and also through immigration and tourism. The political changes and ecological concerns play an important part in this regard. In the current study, sustainability Indices are linked with the KOF Globalization Index to understand if more globalized countries are performing better in terms of sustainable development and its dimensions, especially environmental sustainability. Sustainability indices such as Human Development Index (HDI) and Environmental Performance Index (EPI) showed a stronger relation with different levels of globalization while others (Red List Index (RLI), Environment Sustainability Index (ESI)) did not. The results reveal that globalization has a positive implication on sustainability in the overall perspective.

This study aims to examine the impact of globalization on environmental performance by employing panel data for 148 countries from 2001 to 2018, via the indicator of Environmental Performance Index to capture the overall environmental quality and KOF index to measure the multi dimensions of globalization. The empirical results suggest that globalization is critical to environmental performance, which is reliable while we conduct several robustness tests. Furthermore, if globalization increases, it would be beneficial for the environmental performance; moreover, among specific dimensions of globalization, economic globalization, social globalization and political globalization would bring about better environmental performance. Besides, the improvement of globalization, social globalization and political globalization would bring about better environmental performance, while that of economic globalization cannot change the overall environmental performance. Our study offers more insight into the relationship between globalization and environmental performance.

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to define the essence of globalization and international economic integration, to identify their influence on the development of national economies and markets, identify of Ukraine’s place in international globalization and integration processes. In this scientific research general scientific and special research methods are used, in particular, the method of theoretical generalization to clarify certain concepts such as ‘globalization’; the method of statistical analysis to assess the dynamics of the global index of globalization and the dynamics of globalization indexes of the leading countries of the world according to KOF; the method of comparative analysis for carrying out a rating assessment of the scale of Ukraine’s integration into the world in terms of the economic, social and political components of globalization. Researches of the survey showed existing approaches to the interpretation of the categories ‘globalization’. It is underlined the ambiguous attitude to globalization in the scientific sphere. The rating of Ukraine according to the index of globalization of KOF, and the dynamics of the index change in 2012-2020 years are presented. Positive aspects and threats caused by the entry of Ukraine into the global space are considered. In order to increase the rating’s assessment of the scale of Ukraine’s integration into the world, it is necessary to increase the volume of international trade, to rise the level of international business activity, trade flows, flows of international investments, etc., to intensify the level of cultural integration, the level of international tourism, cross-border money transfers, information flows, etc., to ensure membership in leading international organizations, participation in international missions, processes for the ratification of international multilateral treaties, etc.

KOF Globalization Index has been used as the measure of globalization unlike the empirical literature that explores the relationship between globalization and external debt. In the study where panel data analysis method has been used, the findings show that there is a positive relationship between KOF Globalization Index and external debt in developing countries. When it is examined from the perspective of the sub-indexes of globalization, it is seen that the economic globalization index is positively related to external debt. Social and political globalization has no effect on external debts. Impact of the control variables used in the analysis on external debts is significant and negative. From this, it can be said that general globalization and economic globalization have increased the external debt of the nations.

Abstract:
Globalization has gathered great momentum over the past four decades and it has led to important changes in the economic, political, and cultural dynamics of countries. It is theoretically expected that globalization stimulates economic growth by leading institutional reforms, opening economies to global markets, direct and indirect foreign investments, and technology transfers. Therefore, it is crucial for emerging economies to increase economic growth. This study investigates the impact of globalization on economic growth for the panel of emerging economies by conducting second generation panel data techniques. For this purpose, employing annual data spanning from 1970 to 2014, the effects of overall KOF globalization index and three dimensions of globalization on economic growth are estimated via CUP-FM and CUP-BC estimators. Results show that overall the KOF globalization index, economic, and social dimensions of globalization have positive influence on economic growth while the effect of political dimension on economic growth is negative.

Abstract:
The literature recognizes that the gradual countries' involvement in the economic globalization has generated competitive environments that stimulate innovation and economic growth. Yet, globalization has also apparently led to the increase of inequality, contributing for waves of populism and discontent, claiming for justice in sharing these benefits. Thus, it is not surprising that the interaction globalization/social justice is paying attention to politicians and academics, seeking to identify if there is reason to fear that the globalization leads to increase inequality. This chapter deals with the link between globalization and social justice, measured by updated indicators that improved the data quality and broadened their baseline. In what globalization concerns are applied the renewed KOF index, including de facto and de jure perspectives. Concerning social justice, are used the latest “EU Social Justice Index”. The study reflects on the effects of the recent global financial crises in the EU members, which especially hit the Euro zone.

This chapter presents the main issues around globalization and its effect on trade relations of emerging markets. Based on extensive literature review the basic globalization trends with corresponding factors are revealed. The author's proposition states that globalization trends (including political, economic, and social globalization) affect trade relations between and within emerging markets. The analysis covers BRIC and CIVETS countries for the period from 1971 to 2013 (based on KOF Index of Globalization) and from 1960 to 2015 for the exports/imports flows. Several statements and propositions regarding trade relations between and within emerging markets are defined. The proposed implications for future research are focused on: exploring emerging markets as a system which variations can be modeled by stochastic processes, and applying network theory to explore the influences of trade liberalizations and gravitational effects of various regional trade agreements on the economic performance of major emerging markets.

Abstract:
In Turkey, the volume of foreign trade, which was very small in the first years of the republic, raised due to the increasing population and the reviving economy. Imports and exports for Turkey, the proportion of equipment, investment goods, and raw materials that would have been used for industrialization has increased. Another type of trade that is desired to be implemented in Turkey in recent years is free trade. The implementations for free trade also bring the question together with themselves. Does globalization always affect developing countries in a positive correlation with their economies? The data taken from KOF Index of Globalization from ETH Zurich are going to be used to see the relationship with the data coming from imports and exports. Then for all developing countries a classification study is done and the relation of developing countries and Turkey is examined. The purpose of the chapter is to examine the number of imports and exports due to globalization indexes to understand the real impact and the direction of globalization from the perspective of Turkey.

Abstract:
This study aims to determine the relationship between inclusive growth and globalization. Since both concepts are multidimensional and do not directly related data on these concepts, an inclusive growth index is formed which covers sixteen different data with the help of principal component analysis. The globalization data are compiled from the KOF Swiss Economic Institute and the relationship between them is determined by Engle-Granger cointegration, Granger causality and ARDL bounds tests. Econometric findings show that inclusive growth has accelerated in the period between 1991 and 2015, that there is a long-term relationship with the inclusive growth index and the globalization index. This situation is contradictory with the conclusion that the causality relationship in the literature is towards global growth through inclusive growth. Information, social, economic and financial globalizations are directly related to economic performance, education, health and infrastructure investments and its funding conditions.

The scope of this research is to examine the impact of globalization on people socially and culturally in many countries regarding power distance. Hence, this research study empirically investigates the relationship between globalization and Hofstede’s cultural value of power distance in fifty countries and regions worldwide. The authors borrowed secondary data from two different sources, the Manikov and Hofstede’s Research in 2012 study and the KOF Globalization Index in 2019, to test the relationship between globalization and power distance using single regression analysis. The study results show a negative and significant relationship between globalization and power distance among countries and nations (β= -1.174; P-value=0.000). The study results could benefit policymakers to consider accommodating globalization, top-level managers in multi-global corporations as power distance impacts consumer buying behavior. Abstract:
This paper empirically investigates how globalization impacted economic growth in a broad group of countries covered by the wiiw (the Vienna institute for international economic studies) database covering the period since the 1990s. Whilst theoretical arguments in favor of the positive effects of globalization are predominant, there also exist sound arguments pointing out that the effects might be negative too. Empirical evidence also provides a mixed picture. Given this ambiguity, it seems reasonable to further pursue the empirical effects of globalization on growth. The novelty in this paper is the application of different measures of globalization within the KOF index of globalization introduced by Dreher (2006) and later revisited by Gygli et al. (2019). In particular, this applies to distinguishing between the de jure and de facto measures of globalization and allows a comparison between the findings of these approaches. In its empirical investigation, this study uses the panel data analysis covering the ex-socialist European and Asian countries providing some interesting insights.

Abstract:
Contemporarily, globalization is regarded as one of the most comprehensive forces that shape the modern world. It led to major increases in worldwide trade and exchanges in an increasingly open, integrated, and borderless international economy. The participation of developing countries in the globalization process created an opportunity for them to better utilize their comparative advantages through entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurship is often associated with job creation, wealth creation, innovation and its related welfare effects. Thus it is generally credited with economic development instrument especially for developing countries. In this regard, impact of globalization on entrepreneurship in developing countries is investigated in the study. Entrepreneurship and globalization data is collected from KOF Index of Globalization and Global Entrepreneurship Monitor. The data of the countries classified by UNDP Country Classification System. Comparison of the data has shown that globalization has a positive impact on entrepreneurial activities and although entrepreneurship levels are rising all over the world it is more effective in developing countries than developed ones and emerging markets in the last decade due to the increase in the globalization process.

Abstract:
Globalization including political, social and economic processes is frequently associated with multinational companies and investment, international trade and regionalism, global finance and money. While globalization process reduced activity and control of national governments on their economy and trade their place is substituted by international companies. The national economies on the other hand try to keep pace with the change in economic system by deregulating their international trade barriers via regional trade agreements and economic integrations. Based on the assumption that the globalization has liberalized their infrastructure of trade, this study investigates the balance of trade in the member countries of The Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC). The data is collected from international trade database of UNCTAD and globalization index of KOF Swiss Economic Institute. The variables are evaluated using panel data analysis and the results have shown that globalization has a significant impact on international trade and the globalization process had a positive effect on the liberalization of trade in the member countries of the BSEC.

Abstract:
Globalization is generally expressed as the integration of countries into the external world in economic, social and political contexts. One of the most important indicators of the level of development of a country is the economic growth performance of the mentioned country. It is therefore important to examine whether the globalization process affects economic growth. Although both the developing countries and the developing ones are deeply affected by the globalization process, it's clearly visible that developing South Asian economies get use of globalization better than many other regions of the world by implementing successful policy planning and policy implementations. In this framework, this study investigates the effect of globalization on economic growth of the member countries of ASEAN. The data used in the study is obtained from globalization index of KOF Swiss Economic Institute and national accounts database of UNCTAD. GDP and three dimensions of globalization variables of the ASEAN countries are evaluated using panel data analysis within the scope of study. The results of the analysis show that globalization has a significant effect on economic growth of the member countries of the ASEAN.

Abstract:
Globalization processes create new organizational, economic and many other changes within society. There are many positive and negative social effects, and globalization is treated as an important part of the new world order and as a way of adapting and promoting new social values. It is increasingly turning into a new concept within the action of social relations as it encourages the opening of a new era of development. Under the influence of globalization, new directions of economic development in Croatia have been opened and this is an important scientific issue. There are numerous benefits of globalization and differences in speed and approach have often been driven by regional trends, policy opportunities and economic factors. Croatia has a continuous and constant development of globalization parameters measured according to the KOF globalization index with occasional turbulent periods that resulted in short-term declines in correlations. The Covid-19 pandemic has turned into a major disaster for the global economy and it is clear that the further development of global relations will take some new dimensions. This paper aims to establish the correlation between the globalization effects and related integration processes in the world with the detection of the situation in the Republic of Croatia. The scientific contribution is manifested through knowledge of the laws that govern globalization processes and inclusive forms of their further development.
