Abstract:
The Swedish Navy’s Visby corvette is designed to be virtually invisible in pursuit of hostile submarines and underwater mines. The Visby is designed to be difficult to detect by an enemy using radar, infrared, hydro-acoustic monitoring or any other sensor system. The craft’s success could change naval warfare as profoundly as did the ironclad ships in the 19th century. Sweden’s YS2000 class corvette, the first known production naval stealth vessel, takes shape at Kockums’ shipyard on Karlskrona Island. The Kockums shipwrights designed the Visby to be electronically undetectable at a range greater than 13 km in rough seas, and at more than 22 km in calm seas, without electronic jamming. With the assistance of jamming, the Visby is invisible at more than 8 km in rough waters and 11 km in a calm sea. Computing Devices Canada also designed a monitoring system so that the Visby can perform a background check on its own vibration levels to ensure that the ship’s sound is within acceptable levels.

Abstract:
The Stirling power module V4-275R, integrated with a liquid oxygen system, is currently built for submarines for the Royal Swedish Navy and for the offshore company Comex in France. Since mid 1985 the Stirling engine system for the Swedish Navy has been successfully tested in a full-scale submarine test section. The next step in this programme will be an integration of the Stirling system into an operational Swedish submarine. A contract has been signed having Kockums as the main contractor. The French programme means a 500 ton manned diver lock-out submarine, the SAGA I, which is under final construction at Comex in Marseille. The energy system for the SAGA submarine consists of two V4–275R Stirling engines of maximum 100 kW power each. The oxygen storage, manufactured by AGA Cryo in Gothenburg, consists of two liquid oxygen tanks providing a total capacity of 10000 kWh, allowing the submarine to perform missions of up to 14 days submerged.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Constitutive models that reflect the microstructure evolution is of great significance to accurately predict the forming process of forging. Through thermal tension of 300M steel under various temperatures (950~1150 °C) and strain rates (0.01~10 s−1), the material flow and microstructure evolutions were investigated. In order to describe both the exponential hardening phenomenon at a higher temperature, and the softening phenomenon due to recrystallization at a lower temperature, a constitutive model considering microstructure evolution was proposed based on the Kocks–Mecking model. It was found that considering the stress-strain curve to be exponential in the work-hardening stage could improve the constitutive model prediction precision. The average error was 2.43% (3.59 MPa), showing that the proposed model was more precise than the modified Arrhenius model and the Kocks–Mecking model. The models to describe recrystallization kinetics and average grain size were also constructed. This work enabled the Kocks–Mecking model to predict stress-strain curves with a higher accuracy, and broadened the applicable range of the Kocks–Mecking model.

Abstract:
The 3-roll Reducing and Sizing block RSB has been known as reliable instrument for the economic production of SBQ and wire rod. By continuous development of the RSB technology in the past decades, KOCKS clearly contributed to meet high availability, efficient production, fast dimension change and tightest tolerances to secure a rolling mills’ existence. The repeatability of tightest tolerances is an enormous challenge due to the constantly changing basic conditions of a mill. The operator needs to precisely adapt the process parameters reacting to smaller lot sizes made of different material grades with partly strongly varying spreading and shrinkage behavior or yield strengths. It is KOCKS' objective to meet this challenge by an automated tool, the Size Control Systems SCS®, thus lifting the quality assurance of long products to a new level.

Abstract:
The mechanical behavior of aluminum with different alloying contents up to 1 wt percent, deformed under hot-working conditions, has been analyzed in terms of the exponential saturation equation proposed by Voce for the description of the evolution of the mechanical threshold stress, σ^, and the model advanced by Kocks for the description of the ratio, sε˙,T, between the flow stress at any strain rate and temperature and σ^. It has been determined that the increase in the alloying content of aluminum gives rise to an increase in the mechanical threshold stress mainly due to the effect of the solute content on the saturation stress, σ^s and less markedly on the athermal stress, σ^a. On the contrary, it has been found that the increase in the alloying content gives rise to a decrease of the Stage II or athermal work-hardening rate, θ0. Also, it has been concluded that the increase in the solute content of the material gives rise to a significant increase in the parameters ε˙K and g0 that enter into the expression of sε˙,T. Therefore, the dependence of the flow stress at any temperature and strain rate with the alloying content evolves from the dependence of both sε˙,T and σ^ on solute concentration. Also, it has been found that, for the present analysis, the factor sε˙,T derived from Kocks model is more satisfactory than that derived from the Follansbee and Kocks model since the latter predicts negative values of the flow stress below approximately 10 MPa, that is to say, under conditions of elevated deformation temperatures and low strain rates.

Abstract:
After tooth extraction, alveolar bone resorption is common and inevitable, which can lead to dimensional changes in the horizontal and vertical plane of the ridge. These chang- es range from an average vertical bone loss of 1.5 to 2 mm and an average horizontal loss of ridge width of 40 to 50% during six to twelve months of healing. The purpose of the study was to present the clinical case of a female patient with Multiple Sclerosis who underwent bone augmentation with xenograft and to show the degree of horizontal and vertical bone regeneration after bone augmentation. The work is a presentation of a case that was carried out in the private Dental Ordinance during the year 2021. The case presented is with horizontal and vertical resorption of the alveolar ridge, in which artificial bone – bone particles (Par- ticulate Bone Grafting Technique) produced by the Bionno- vation biomedical company was used. The measurement of parameters is quantitative. 6 months after guided bone regeneration, through 3D analysis we have the following re- sults: he length of the bone from 7.5mm became 10.7mm, while the width of the bone at the top of the alveolar ridge from 1.7mm to 3.4mm, while the part of the base of the ridge from 5.4mm to 7.4mm. Directed bone regeneration is a procedure that is recommended in cases where we do not have enough bone to place implants. The technique used is grafting through bone particles (Particulate Bone Grafting Technique).

Abstract:
Alveolar bone resorption is a continuous process with mul- tifactorial etiology, and often a serious problem for elderly people, especially in cases with edentulous mandible. Nu- merous studies describe a correlation between multiple systemic and local factors and alveolar ridge resorption. This review aims to analyse the available evidence of factors that may affect the residual ridge resorption and the effect of different denture treatments used to reduce the residu- al ridge resorption. Each patient has unique treatment re- quirements considering that the residual ridge resorption has multifactorial etiology. Management of alveolar bone resorption is considered a challenge in prosthodontic treat- ment. Therefore, research should continue to find methods and materials which will reduce the alveolar bone resorp- tion.

Abstract:
Low alloy multiphase TRansformation Induced Plasticity (TRIP) steels offer an excellent combination of a large uniform elongation and a high strength. This results from the composite behaviour of the different phases that are present in these steels: polygonal ferrite, bainitic ferrite and a martensite/austenite constituent. In order to obtain a clear understanding of the behaviour of the different constituents within the multiphase steel, they were prepared separately. The stress-strain relationship of the different single phase and multiphase steels were simulated with physically based micromechanical models. The model used to describe the stress-strain curves of the separate phases is based on the Mecking-Kocks and Seeger-Kocks theories and uses physical properties such as the microstructural properties and the chemical composition of the different phases. Strain-induced transformation kinetics, based on a generalized form of the Olson-Cohen law, were used to include the influence of the transformation of the metastable austenite. Static stress-strain properties of multiphase steels were modelled by the successive application of a Gladman type mixture law for two-phase steels. The model yields detailed information of stress and strain partitioning between the different phases during a static tensile test. A model for the dynamic stress-strain properties of ferritic steels is also proposed.

Abstract:
In this artide, the Swedish economist Karin Kock's work "Kvinnoarbetet i Sverige" (Womens Work in Sweden) from 1938, is analysed as a "feminist empiricist" strategy of knowledge. Karin Kock earned a Ph.D. in economics from Stockholm University in 1929. After that, she built a successful career, first as a teacher and researcher at Stockholm University, låter as a government official and minister. She was the only woman economist active in Sweden before the 1970's. Kock was an organised feminist from the middle of the 1920'son. Married women's right to work was a controversial political issue in Sweden in the inter-war years, and Women's Work in Sweden was written as a part of a government investigation into that question. Kock based her theoretical work on women's wages and their situation on the labour märket on a large scale empirical investigation, which showed that the labour märket in Sweden was characterised by horizontal and vertical segregation, as it was in the other industrialised countries. Kock then utilised the difference between women's and men's wages as starting point for an analysis of the factors that influenced the supply and demand for women's labour, thereby combining neoclassical labour märket theory with institutionalist analysis. Women s Work in Sweden was the only work where Kock used her feminist commitment as a basis for formulating a scientific problem. The broad economic and social approach she developed in this work in the end of 1930's came to be the mainstream approach among feminist economists during the 1980's and 90's.

Abstract:
This paper follows on recent work (Iverson & Salmons 2004, 2007; Kiparsky 2005, 2006) seeking to resolve Kock's 1888 paradox intro-duced in his celebrated “period theory” of Old Norsei-umlaut. The basic finding is this: In paradigms where a phonological innovation has been rendered opaque by the operation of other sound changes, restructuring of the base form incorporates rather than derives the results of the innovation as it dies out; but if the innovation remains transparent in certain other paradigms, its expiration enables reversion to the antecedent phonological form. Both patterns can be subsumed under the traditional rubric of analogy, resulting in allomorphically uniform paradigms, but the former generalizes a sound change to con-texts in which it never occurred naturally, whereas the latter actually undoes, or reverses, a sound change.*

A F138 austenitic stainless steel was solution heat treated, deformed by equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) at 25 and 300°C. The equivalent strain was ~0.7 per pass and the applied equivalent strain varied from 0.7 to 2.8. Microstructure evolution was observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) electron back-scattered diffraction (EBSD) and X –ray diffraction. Work hardening behavior was studied by making use of Kocks-Mecking plots and hardness measurements, the influence of deformation on corrosion resistance was evaluated recording anodic polarization curves in 0.9% NaCl solution.

Abstract:
The eect of deformation-induced disorientations on work-hardening of metals is modelled by dislocation dynamics. By incorporating excess dislocations related to disori- entations, Kocks' dislocation model describing stage III hardening is extended to stage IV. Disorientations evolving from purely statistical reasons still lead to stage III behavior and a saturation of the ow stress, but deterministic contributions to the development of disorienta- tions, as dierences in activated slip systems across boundaries, cause a linear increase of the flow stress at large strains. Such a constant work-hardening rate is characteristic for stage IV.

Abstract:
An extruded magnesium AZ31 magnesium alloy was processed by rotary swaging (RSW) and then deformed by tension and compression at room temperature. The work-hardening behaviour of 1–5 times swaged samples was analysed using Kocks-Mecking plots. Accumulation of dislocations on dislocation obstacles and twin boundaries is the deciding factor for the strain hardening. Profuse twinning in compression seems to be the reason for the higher hardening observed during compression. The main softening mechanism is apparently the cross-slip between the pyramidal planes of the second and first order. A massive twinning observed at the deformation beginning influences the Hall-Petch parameters.

Abstract:
A numerical model of dynamic strain-induced ferrite transformation (DSFT) was developed by combining the multi-phase field model with the Kocks–Mecking model. Using the developed model, a three-dimensional simulation of the DSFT in a Fe-C alloy was performed to study the correlation between the variation in flow stress and the microstructure evolution during the DSFT. The simulation results indicated that the developed model successfully simulated the characteristic DSFT behavior, i.e., both the stress–strain curve with a single peak and the formation of an ultrafine-grained ferrite microstructure. The variation in the flow stress during the DSFT was characterized by the volume fraction of the ferrite phase.

Abstract:
Despite extensive studies on the aging behaviour of Al3Sc containing alloys, the underlying mechanism of the precipitation strengthening is still not well understood. In particular, the transition radius at which particles become non-shearable is not known. In this work, the work hardening behaviour of an Al-2.8Mg-0.16Sc (wt%) alloy has been characterized for different stages of aging and the corresponding slip line features at the surface of strained specimens have been examined using Nomarski interference contrast. Moreover, the work hardening behaviour is discussed in the framework proposed by Kocks, Mecking and Estrin. It is proposed that changes in macroscopic work hardening behaviour can be used as a signature of the shearable/non-shearable transition.

Abstract:
A constitutive model using dislocation density rate as an internal state variable has been proposed for hot working of β titanium alloy in this paper. The β phase was only taken into consideration during high temperature deformation. The solution strengthening and dislocation interaction were included in the constitutive equations. The strength coefficient was determined by equivalent vanadium content, Veq, which was calculated according to the alloy constituent. A Kocks-Mecking model was adopted to describe the variation of dislocation density. The constitutive relationship of a β titanium alloy Ti-10V-4.5Fe-1.5Al for high temperature deformation was established using the internal-state-variable based model. Model parameters were determined by the genetic algorithm based objective optimization method. The predicted results agree fairly well with the experimental value.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTThe transition of a viscous incompressible laminar flow behind a circular cylinder from a steady state to its wake, counterpart at a Reynolds number Re = 100, based on the free stream velocity (U) and the cylinder diameter (D), is directly simulated. The two-dimensional unsteady Navier-Stokes equations are solved numerically by taking advantage of the splitting technique and the spectral element method. The main goal of this work is to explore the frequency-selection mechanism of the wake through the use of the absolute/convective instability theory, which in turn is performed by investigating the one-dimensional Orr-Sommerfeld equation. It is found that the predicted onset frequency based on the maximum-growth criterion is in a good agreement with the numerically observed one, although the measured growth rate is found smaller. The saturated frequencies predicted by the maximum-growth criterion and Kock's transition criterion are the same and also close to the measured one. More simulation or experimental data are needed for a further conclusion however.
