Įvertinti hemodializuojamų pacientų, sergančių V stadijos lėtine inkstų liga (LIL), inkstų funkcijos rodiklius ir nustatyti, kokius akių pakitimus jie atspindi. Darbo metodika. 2014/11–2015/03 VUL SK atliktas pilotinis tyrimas, kuriame dalyvavo 11 pacientų, sergančių LIL V stadija. Neįtraukti pacientai, sergantys cukriniu diabetu. Nefrologijos centre vertinti epidemiologiniai, laboratoriniai, klinikiniai duomenys. Akių ligų centre – regėjimo aštrumas (RA), akispūdis, akių dugno kraujagyslės. Optinės koherentinės tomografijos (OKT) aparatu įvertintas tinklainės centrinės dalies storis. Glomerulų filtracijos greitis (GFG) apskaičiuotas CKD-EPI skaičiuokle. Statistinė duomenų analizė atlikta SPSS 22.0 programa. Duomenys laikyti statistiškai patikimi, kai p < 0,05. Rezultatai. Ištirta 11 ligonių: 4 vyrai (36,4 proc.), 7 moterys (63,6 proc.). Amžiaus vidurkis 62,5 ± 10,7 metų. LIL V stadijos vidutinė ligos trukmė 10,5 ± 8,2 metų. KMI vidurkis 24,3 ± 2,7.

Abstract:
Osteoarthritis is a degenerative arthropathy that is mainly characterized by dysregulation of inflammatory responses. KMUP-1, a derived chemical synthetic of xanthine, has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Here, we aimed to investigate the in vitro anti-inflammatory and in vivo anti-osteoarthritis effects of KMUP-1. Protein and gene expressions of inflammation markers were determined by ELISA, Western blotting and microarray, respectively. RAW264.7 mouse macrophages were cultured and pretreated with KMUP-1 (1, 5, 10 μM). The productions of TNF-α, IL-6, MMP-2 and MMP- 9 were reduced by KMUP-1 pretreatment in LPS-induced inflammation of RAW264.7 cells. The expressions of iNOS, TNF-α, COX-2, MMP-2 and MMP-9 were also inhibited by KMUP-1 pretreatment. The gene expression levels of TNF and COX families were also downregulated. In addition, KMUP-1 suppressed the activations of ERK, JNK and p38 as well as phosphorylation of IκBα/NF-κB signaling pathways. Furthermore, SIRT1 inhibitor attenuated the inhibitory effect of KMUP-1 in LPS-induced NF-κB activation. In vivo study showed that KMUP-1 reduced mechanical hyperalgesia in monoiodoacetic acid (MIA)-induced rats OA. Additionally, KMUP-1 pretreatment reduced the serum levels of TNF-α and IL-6 in MIA-injected rats. Moreover, macroscopic and histological observation showed that KMUP-1 reduced articular cartilage erosion in rats. Our results demonstrated that KMUP-1 inhibited the inflammatory responses and restored SIRT1 in vitro, alleviated joint-related pain and cartilage destruction in vivo. Taken together, KMUP-1 has the potential to improve MIA-induced articular cartilage degradation by inhibiting the levels and expression of inflammatory mediators suggesting that KMUP-1 might be a potential therapeutic agent for OA.

Abstract:
This study explored whether KMUP-1 improved chronic constriction injury (CCI)-induced BKCa current inhibition in dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons. Rats were randomly assigned to four groups: sham, sham + KMUP-1, CCI, and CCI + KMUP-1 (5 mg/kg/day, i.p.). DRG neuronal cells (L4–L6) were isolated on day 7 after CCI surgery. Perforated patch-clamp and inside-out recordings were used to monitor BKCa currents and channel activities, respectively, in the DRG neurons. Additionally, DRG neurons were immunostained with anti-NeuN, anti-NF200 and anti-BKCa. Real-time PCR was used to measure BKCa mRNA levels. In perforated patch-clamp recordings, CCI-mediated nerve injury inhibited BKCa currents in DRG neurons compared with the sham group, whereas KMUP-1 prevented this effect. CCI also decreased BKCa channel activity, which was recovered by KMUP-1 administration. Immunofluorescent staining further demonstrated that CCI reduced BKCa-channel proteins, and KMUP-1 reversed this. KMUP-1 also changed CCI-reduced BKCa mRNA levels. KMUP-1 prevented CCI-induced neuropathic pain and BKCa current inhibition in a peripheral nerve injury model, suggesting that KMUP-1 could be a potential agent for controlling neuropathic pain.

Abstract:
Methanol is one of the important intermediate chemicals which is used widely in many processes to produce final products such as formaldehyde, dimethyl ether (DME), dimethyl terephthalate (DMT), and methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE). As a pioneer of methanol producer in Indonesia, PT. Kaltim Methanol Industri (KMI) has a strong commitment for sustainability and saving natural resources including enhancement of energy efficiency during production activities. Since mid-2018, to fulfill the electricity needs, PT. KMI has two main sources of electricity namely internal source using steam turbine generator and tie-in from PT. Kaltim Daya Mandiri (KDM). The modification of electricity sources promotes PT. KMI to evaluate the efficiency of internal electricity production. This has been conducted by performing optimization of blow down rate or cycle steam in boiler operation. Based on the data logbook, this work aims to evaluate the effect of blowdown rate on the energy saving and natural gas consumption. When the number of cycle steam boilers is altered from around 10 to 24, the company could get the potential energy saving around 300 MMBTU/day or 7.14% of total based energy consumption. In the boiler operation, decreasing blowdown rate would raise the cycle steam boiler and give final consequences to reduce energy losses from the release of BFW. The optimization of this cycle steam also cut the boiler specific energy consumption into around 3.0 MMBTU/ton steam. Based on the average heating value, this innovation could decline the natural gas consumption of PT. KMI around 122.91 MMSCF in the period of July 2018 – July 2019. Based on the result above, the modification of the cycle steam boiler would enhance energy efficiency, saving the natural resources and promote the application of sustainable development concept in the chemical industry. Keywords: blowdown rate; boiler energy; cycle steam; energy efficiency; PT. Abstract:
Xanthine-based KMUP-1 was shown to inhibit phosphodiesterases (PDEs) and modulate G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) to lower hyperlipidemia and body weight. This study further investigated whether KMUP-1 affects adipogenesis and lipolysis in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. KMUP-1 (1–40 µM) concentration-dependently attenuated Oil Red O (ORO) staining and decreased triglyceride (TG) accumulation, indicating adipogenesis inhibition in 3T3-L1 cells. In contrast, the β-agonist ractopamine increased ORO staining and TG accumulation and adipogenesis. KMUP-1 (1–40 µM) also reduced MAPKs/Akt/PPARγ expression, PPARγ1/PPARγ2 mRNA, and p-ERK immunoreactivity at the adipogenesis stage, but enhanced hormone sensitive lipase (HSL) immunoreactivity at the lipolysis stage. Addition of protein kinase A (PKA) or protein kinase G (PKG) antagonist (KT5720 or KT5728) to adipocytes did not affect HSL immunoreactivity. However, KMUP-1 did increase HSL immunoreactivity and the effect was reduced by PKA or PKG antagonist. Simvastatin, theophylline, caffeine, and sildenafil, like KMUP-1, also enhanced HSL immunoreactivity. Phosphorylated HSL (p-HSL) was enhanced by KMUP-1, indicating increased lipolysis in mature 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Decreases of MAPKs/Akt/PPARγ during adipogenesis contributed to inhibition of adipocyte differentiation, and increases of PKA/PKG at lipolysis contributed to HSL activation and TG hydrolysis. Taken together, the data suggest that KMUP-1 can inhibit hyperadiposity in 3T3-L1 adipocytes.

Abstract:
To test whether KMUP-1 (7-[2-[4-(2-chlorophenyl) piperazinyl]ethyl]-1,3-dimethylxanthine) prevents myocardial ischemia-induced apoptosis, we examined KMUP-1-treated H9c2 cells culture. Recent attention has focused on the activation of nitric oxide (NO)-guanosine 3', 5'cyclic monophosphate (cGMP)-protein kinase G (PKG) signaling pathway triggered by mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) family, including extracellular-signal regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2), c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), and p38 in the mechanism of cardiac protection during ischemia-induced cell-death. We propose that KMUP-1 inhibits ischemia-induced apoptosis in H9c2 cells culture through these pathways. Cell viability was assessed using MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay and apoptotic evaluation was conducted using DNA ladder assay and Hoechst 33342 staining. The level of intracellular calcium was detected using - Fura2-acetoxymethyl (Fura2-AM) staining, and mitochondrial calcium with Rhod 2-acetoxymethyl (Rhod 2-AM) staining under fluorescence microscopic observation. The expression of endothelium NO synthase (eNOS), inducible NO synthase (iNOS), soluble guanylate cyclase α1 (sGCα1), PKG, Bcl-2/Bax ratio, ERK1/2, p38, and JNK proteins were measured by Western blotting assay. KMUP-1 pretreatment improved cell viability and inhibited ischemia-induced apoptosis of H9c2 cells. Calcium overload both in the intracellular and mitochondrial sites was attenuated by KMUP-1 pretreatment. Moreover, KMUP-1 reduced intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), increased plasma NOx (nitrite and nitrate) level, and the expression of eNOS. Otherwise, the iNOS expression was downregulated. KMUP-1 pretreatment upregulated the expression of sGCα1 and PKG protein. The ratio of Bcl-2/Bax expression was increased by the elevated level of Bcl2 and decreased level of Bax. In comparison with the ischemia group, KMUP-1 pretreatment groups reduced the expression of phosphorylated extracellular signal-regulated kinases ERK1/2, p-p38, and p-JNK as well. Therefore, KMUP-1 inhibits myocardial ischemia-induced apoptosis by restoration of cellular calcium influx through the mechanism of NO-cGMP-MAPK pathways.

Abstract:
B lymphocyte precursor cells in mouse bone marrow develop in close association with stromal cells which provide essential growth signals. To identify molecules that may normally play a role in this interaction we have examined the in vivo binding of a new monoclonal antibody (mAb) (KMI6) that recognizes a determinant on a bone marrow stromal cell line (BMS2) in vitro. Flow cytometric and radioautographic evaluations revealed that the antigen recognized by KMI6 is represented on the surface of an extremely small number of cells in bone marrow cell suspensions from adult mice. An apparent molecular mass of 110 kD was obtained by surface labeling of a stromal cell clone and immunoprecipitation. Purified mAb KMI6 labeled with 125I was then given intravenously to young C3H/HeJ mice. Unbound mAb was washed out by cardiac perfusion and femoral bone marrow was examined by light and electron microscope radioautography. KMI6 labeling was heavy on the plasma membrane of many stromal cells, especially those located towards the outer subosteal region. The KMI6-labeled stromal cells were usually associated with cells of lymphoid morphology which they often completely surrounded. The labeling was restricted to areas of stromal cell plasma membranes in contact with lymphoid cells. The lymphoid cells themselves, as well as macrophages and other hemopoietic cells, failed to bind mAb KMI6 significantly. Stromal cells in bone marrow depleted of hemopoietic cells by gamma-irradiation (9,5 Gy) bound mAb KMI6 at reduced intensity. The results demonstrate that the KMI6 determinant, a 110-kD protein, is expressed on bone marrow stromal cells in vivo. Its restriction to areas of interaction with lymphoid cells suggests a role in forming microenvironmental niches of B lymphopoiesis. The surface membrane of individual stromal cells may thus be functionally polarized towards interacting B cell precursors and other hemopoietic cells.

Abstract:
Aim. The lack of large-angle correlations in the fluctuations of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) conflicts with predictions of slow-roll inflation. But while probabilities (≲0.24%) for the missing correlations disfavour the conventional picture at ≳3σ, factors not associated with the model itself may be contributing to the tension. Here we aim to show that the absence of large-angle correlations is best explained with the introduction of a non-zero minimum wave number kmin for the fluctuation power spectrum P(k). Methods. We assumed that quantum fluctuations were generated in the early Universe with a well-defined power spectrum P(k), although with a cut-off kmin ≠ 0. We then re-calculated the angular correlation function of the CMB and compared it with Planck observations. Results. The Planck 2013 data rule out a zero kmin at a confidence level exceeding 8σ. Whereas purely slow-roll inflation would have stretched all fluctuations beyond the horizon, producing a P(k) with kmin = 0 – and therefore strong correlations at all angles – a kmin ≠ 0 would signal the presence of a maximum wavelength at the time (tdec) of decoupling. This argues against the basic inflationary paradigm, and perhaps even suggests non-inflationary alternatives, for the origin and growth of perturbations in the early Universe. In at least one competing cosmology, the Rh = ct universe, the inferred kmin corresponds to the gravitational radius at tdec.

Abstract The phase 3 CLARION study compared carfilzomib-melphalan-prednisone (KMP) with bortezomib-melphalan-prednisone (VMP) in transplant-ineligible newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM) patients. Patients were randomized 1:1 to KMP or VMP for nine 42-day cycles (C). Patients received carfilzomib on days (D) 1, 2, 8, 9, 22, 23, 29, 30 (20 mg/m2: C1D1, C1D2; 36 mg/m2 thereafter) or bortezomib on D1, 4, 8, 11, 22, 25, 29, 32 (1.3 mg/m2; D4, 11, 25, 32 omitted for C5-9). Melphalan (9 mg/m2) and prednisone (60 mg/m2) were administered on D1-4. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS). Nine hundred fifty-five patients were randomized (intention-to-treat population: KMP, n = 478; VMP, n = 477). Median PFS was 22.3 months with KMP vs 22.1 months with VMP (hazard ratio [HR], 0.906; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.746-1.101; P = .159). Median overall survival was similar and not reached in either group (HR, 1.08; 95% CI, 0.82-1.43). Overall response rate was 84.3% for KMP and 78.8% for VMP. Complete response rate was 25.9% for KMP and 23.1% for VMP. Minimal residual disease–negative rates were 15.7% (KMP) and 15.5% (VMP). Adverse events (AEs) of interest (any grade) occurring with a ≥5% higher patient incidence in the KMP arm were acute renal failure (13.9% [KMP] vs 6.2% [VMP]) and cardiac failure (10.8% vs 4.3%). Grade ≥3 AE rates were 74.7% (KMP) and 76.2% (VMP). Grade ≥2 peripheral neuropathy was lower for KMP vs VMP (2.5% vs 35.1%). Treatment with KMP in CLARION did not yield a statistically significant difference in PFS vs VMP. This trial was registered at www.clinicaltrials.gov as #NCT01818752.

Abstract:
The authors have developed a new binder, KMP, which is made from oxalic acid-activated phosphate rock, monopotassium phosphate (KH2PO4), and reactive magnesia (MgO). This study explores the acid neutralization capacity, strength characteristics, water-soaking durability, resilient modulus, and pore size distribution of KMP stabilized soils with individual Zn, Pb, or coexisting Zn and Pb contaminants. For comparison purpose, Portland cement (PC) is also tested. The results show that KMP stabilized soils have a higher acid buffering capacity than PC stabilized soils, regardless of the soil contamination conditions. The water stability coefficient and resilient modulus of the KMP stabilized soils are found to be higher than PC stabilized soils. The reasons for the differences in these properties between KMP and PC stabilized soils are interpreted based on the stability and dissolubility of the main hydration products of the KMP and PC stabilized soils, the soil pore distribution, and concentration of Mg or Ca leached from the KMP and PC stabilized soils obtained from the acid neutralization capacity tests. Overall, this study demonstrates that the KMP is effective in stabilizing soils that are contaminated with Zn or Pb alone and mixed Zn and Pb contaminants, and the KMP stabilized soils are better suited as roadway subgrade material.

Abstract:
In an attempt to establish the relative importance of diffusional and chemical control in the reactivity of the two of the two substrates, ubiquinol and cytochrome c, we have undertaken as extensive characterization of the steady-state kinetics of ubiquinol-cytochrome c reductase (EC 1.10.2.2) when present in open submitochondrial particles from bovine heart. The kinetic pattern follows a Ping Pong mechanism; contrary to the situation found with the isolated enzyme [Speck and Margoliash (1984) J. Biol. Chem. 259, 1064-1072, and confirmed in our laboratory], no substrate inhibition by oxidized cytochrome c was observed with the membrane-bound enzyme. Endogenous oxidized ubiquinone-10 is unable to exert product inhibition under the conditions employed. In the Ping Pong mechanism for this enzyme, the reaction scheme can be clearly divided into two parts, and the Kmin. (kcat./km) value for one substrate is independent of the rate constant for the second substrate. Both ubiquinol-1 and ubiquinol-2 can be used as electron donors reacting with the enzyme from within the lipid bilayer [Fato, Castelluccio, Palmer and Lenaz (1988) Biochim. Biophys. Acta 932, 216-222]; the kmin. values for ubiquinols, when calculated on the basis of their membranous concentrations, are significantly lower than the kmin. for cytochrome c. The temperature-dependence of the kinetic parameters was investigated by titrating each of the substrates under quasi-saturating concentrations of the second substrate. Arrhenius plots of Vmax. extrapolated from both cytochrome c and ubiquinol titrations were linear, when care was taken to verify the quasi-saturating concentrations of the fixed co-substrate. The Arrhenius plots for the kmin. values for both ubiquinol and cytochrome c were linear, but the activation energy was much higher for the former, particularly when calculated for ubiquinol dissolved in the lipid phase; the very low value of activation energy of the kmin. for cytochrome c is strong support for diffusion control being present in the reaction of cytochrome c with the membranous enzyme. In contrast to the soluble enzyme, ubiquinone titrations of submitochondrial particles at low cytochrome c concentrations deviated from hyperbolic behaviour. Changing the medium viscosity with either poly(ethylene glycol) or sucrose had a strong effect on the cytochrome c kmin., whereas the change in the ubiquinol kmin. was much smaller. From the viscosity studies the extent of diffusional control could be calculated, revealing that the reaction with cytochrome c was mostly diffusion-limited. The viscosity of the membrane was changed by incorporating cholesterol; no significant effect on the ubiquinol kmin. ascribable to diffusion control could be recognized.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 400 WORDS)

Abstract:
Raman and FTIR spectra of KMg1/3Nb2/3PO5 (KMNP) crystal are recorded. The observed bands are assigned mainly in terms of vibrations of NbO6 octahedra and PO4 tetrahedra. The NbO6 octahedra in the crystal are distorted. Corner shared octahedra are present in the KMNP structure. The intense ν1 band at 890 cm-1 in the Raman spectra indicates an ordering in the crystal. The TiO6 octahedra in KTP crystal are more distorted than those of NbO6 octahedra in KMNP. The presence of Mg ions disrupts Nb–O–Nb chains leading to a distortion of NbO6 octahedra different from that of TiO6 . The PO4 tetrahedra in the crystal are linearly distorted. No structural phase transition is observed in the crystal when temperature is lowered to 77 K.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the association of different configurations of intellectual capital (IC) and knowledge management practices (KMP) with firm performance. Do firms with different profiles concerning their overall levels of IC and KMP differ in terms of innovation and market performance? Design/methodology/approach First, the firms were distributed into four distinct profiles based on their overall level of IC and utilization of KMP. Then, the four different IC/KMP profiles were evaluated with regard to their innovation and market performance. Findings Consistent with the extant research, this study finds that the firms characterized with high levels of IC and high use of KMP are likely to outperform the firms with low overall levels of IC and KMP. On more interesting note, this study also demonstrates that firms characterized with high level of IC but only low utilization of KMP can match the innovation performance of the firms with high levels of IC and KMP. Practical implications While the results indicate that the level of IC alone could predict the innovation potential of the firm, the firms should use KMP to leverage the IC and to capitalize the knowledge potential. This result shows the merits of letting innovation flourish without strict managerial control, while pinpointing the relevance of knowledge management (KM) in exploitation of IC. Originality/value As one of the first attempts to merge the IC and KM approaches to find out which configurations could influence firm performance outcomes, this study provides the research community with valuable insights and sets the tone for further discussion.

Abstract:
This study investigates whether KMUP-1 improves hepatic ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) and hypoxic cell injury via inhibiting Nox2- and reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated pro-inflammation. Rats underwent ischemia by occlusion of the portal vein and hepatic artery for 45 minutes. Reperfusion was allowed for 4 h. Serum was used for analysis of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT). DNA extracted from liver homogenate was analyzed by electrophoresis to observe the fragmentation. Lipid peroxidation (LPO) was evaluated by measuring thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS). NO and ROS contents were measured using Griess reagent and 2î-7î-dichlorofluorescein, respectively. Proteins levels were visualized by Western blotting. Liver damage was observed under a microscope. Intravenous KMUP-1 (0.25, 0.5 and 1 mg/kg) reduced I/R-induced ALT and AST levels, DNA fragmentation, ROS and malondialdehyde (MDA) and restored the NO levels of I/R rats. KMUP-1 protected the liver architecture from worsening of damage and focal sinusoid congestion, increased endothelium NO synthase (eNOS), guanosine 3î, 5î cyclic monophosphate (cGMP), protein kinase G (PKG) and the B-cell lymphoma 2/Bcl-2-associated X protein (Bcl-2/Bax) ratio, attenuated phosphodiesterase 5A (PDE-5A) and cleaved caspase-3 expression in I/R-liver. In hypoxic HepG2 cells, KMUP-1 increased cGMP/PKG, restored peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ) and decreased matrix metalloproteinases-9 (MMP-9), Rho kinase II (ROCK II), hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) and vascular endothelium growth factor (VEGF). KMUP-1 protects liver from I/R-injury and hypoxic hepatocytes from apoptosis-associated free radical generation and proinflammation by restoring/increasing NO/cGMP/PPAR-γ, reducing ROS/Nox2 and inhibiting ROCKII/MMP-9.

Abstract:
The bacterial genus Klebsiella includes the closely related species K. michiganensis, K. oxytoca and K. pneumoniae, which are capable of causing severe disease in humans. In this report we describe the isolation, genomic and functional characterisation of the lytic bacteriophage KMI8 specific for K. michiganensis. KMI8 belongs to the family Drexlerviridae, and has a novel genome which shares very little homology (71.89% identity over a query cover of only 8%) with that of its closest related bacteriophages (Klebsiella bacteriophage LF20 (MW417503.1); Klebsiella bacteriophage 066039 (MW042802.1). KMI8, which possess a putative endosialidase (depolymerase) enzyme, was shown to be capable of degrading mono-biofilms of a strain of K. michiganensis that carried the polysaccharide capsule KL70 locus. This is the first report of a lytic bacteriophage for K. michiganensis, which is capable of breaking down a biofilm of this species.

Abstract:
Kaempferol (KMP), a dietary flavonoid, has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiapoptotic effects. Hence, we investigated the effect of KMP in ischemia-reperfusion (IR) model of myocardial injury in rats. We studied male albino Wistar rats that were divided into sham, IR-control, KMP-20 + IR, and KMP 20 per se groups. KMP (20 mg/kg; i.p.) was administered daily to rats for the period of 15 days, and, on the 15th day, ischemia was produced by one-stage ligation of left anterior descending coronary artery for 45 min followed by reperfusion for 60 min. After completion of surgery, rats were sacrificed; heart was removed and processed for biochemical, morphological, and molecular studies. KMP pretreatment significantly ameliorated IR injury by maintaining cardiac function, normalizing oxidative stress, and preserving morphological alterations. Furthermore, there was a decrease in the level of inflammatory markers (TNF-α, IL-6, and NFκB), inhibition of active JNK and p38 proteins, and activation of ERK1/ERK2, a prosurvival kinase. Additionally, it also attenuated apoptosis by reducing the expression of proapoptotic proteins (Bax and Caspase-3), TUNEL positive cells, and increased level of antiapoptotic proteins (Bcl-2). In conclusion, KMP protected against IR injury by attenuating inflammation and apoptosis through the modulation of MAPK pathway.

Abstract:
This report describes the complete translated gene sequence, predicted secondary structure and lipid bilayer association of a novel kinetoplastid membrane protein (KMP-11) from Leishmania donovani promastigotes. KMP-11 was previously referred to as the lipophosphoglycan-associated protein (LPGAP). The isolation, species distribution and chemical characterization, including a partial protein sequence analysis and post-translational modifications, of this major membrane component have been described [Jardim, Funk, Caprioli and Olafson (1995) Biochem. J. 305, 307-313]. C.d. measurements of KMP-11 indicated a very high helical content estimated to be approximately 86% in trifluoroethanol. This was in agreement with computer-based secondary-structure analyses which predicted KMP-11 to be almost exclusively alpha-helical, with the protein adopting a helix-loop-helix motif. Arrangement of the residues located in the putative helical regions on an Edmundson helical wheel showed that this molecule could have a strongly amphipathic conformation and provided an explanation for how such a highly charged protein might be inserted into the plasma membrane. Evidence in support of KMP-11 association with lipid bilayers was provided by showing that KMP-11 could mediate carboxyfluorescein release from liposomes. These findings suggested that KMP-11 may function in part to increase bilayer pressure, stabilizing molecules such as lipophosphoglycan within the parasite pellicular membrane.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, it aims to analyze the individual influence of different knowledge management practises (KMP) on firm performance. Second, it aims to analyze the mediating role of organizational learning (OL) between each KMP and performance. Design/methodology/approach A telephone-survey was applied in 2018 to the managers of 400 Spanish firms. The data retrieved was analyzed by using multiple regression analysis. Findings Knowledge generation (KG) and knowledge flow (KF) promote firm performance, while there is not a direct association between knowledge storage and performance. OL mediates the relationship between KG and performance, as well as between KF and performance. Research limitations/implications First, this research confirms that not all the KMP have a direct effect on firm performance, thus, future research would need to differentiate between different KMP. Second, this paper is pioneering in providing empirical evidence that OL mediates the KMP – performance relationship. Third, the empirical study was performed in a context non-researched yet by the literature considering KMP individually: Spain. Practical implications First, besides the results managers should focus their efforts in practises related to KG and application. Second, OL mediating suggests that managers should invest in managerial commitment to promote a shared culture, shared vision, open-mind to new ideas and a lot of dialogue. Originality/value This is the first study that investigates how KMP contribute to firm performance by incorporating the mediating impact of OL. The results will help organizations to identify the KMP improving the performance.

SummaryHuman platelet glycoprotein Ib/IX complex acts as a receptor for von Willebrand factor. It is widely accepted that glycoprotein lb is the essential receptor component, but the role of glycoprotein IX is still unclear. We produced a new monoclonal anti-glycoprotein IX antibody (KMP-9) by the hybridoma technique using platelets from a patient with Glanzmann’s thrombasthenia. The epitope of KMP-9 was localized to the C-terminal 8 kD fragment of glycoprotein IX using ELISA analysis of polyethylene-pin-synthesized peptides, as well as Western blot analysis of platelets after digestion with N-glycosidase and Staphylococcus aureus V8 protease. KMP-9 partially inhibited high shear stress-induced platelet aggregation, but had no effect on aggregation induced by ristocetin or low shear stress. Its inhibitory effect on high shear stress-induced aggregation was weaker than that of antiglycoprotein lb or anti-glycoprotein Ilb/IIIa monoclonal antibodies. A 21-mer synthetic peptide (glycoprotein IX L110-G130) inhibited the binding of KMP-9 to platelets. It also competively inhibited the suppression of high shear stress-induced platelet aggregation by KMP-9, but had no direct effect on this aggregation. KMP-9 may be useful to clarify the physiological role of GPIX.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Kinetoplastid membrane protein 11 (KMP-11) has been identified as a flagellar protein and is conserved among kinetoplastid parasites, but its potential function remains unknown. In a recent study, we identified KMP-11 as a microtubule-bound protein localizing to the flagellum as well as the basal body in both procyclic and bloodstream forms of Trypanosoma brucei (Z. Li, J. H. Lee, F. Chu, A. L. Burlingame, A. Gunzl, and C. C. Wang, PLoS One 3:e2354, 2008). Silencing of KMP-11 by RNA interference inhibited basal body segregation and cytokinesis in both forms and resulted in multiple nuclei of various sizes, indicating a continuous, albeit somewhat defective, nuclear division while cell division was blocked. KMP-11 knockdown in the procyclic form led to severely compromised formation of the new flagellum attachment zone (FAZ) and detachment of the newly synthesized flagellum. However, a similar phenotype was not observed in the bloodstream form depleted of KMP-11. Thus, KMP-11 is a flagellar protein playing critical roles in regulating cytokinesis in both forms of the trypanosomes. Its distinct roles in regulating FAZ formation in the two forms may provide a clue to the different mechanisms of cytokinetic initiation in procyclic and bloodstream trypanosomes.

This study investigates the types of knowledge management process (KMP) arrangements firms adopt and how these arrangements relate to innovation. Data from 341 Brazilian and Portuguese information technology companies were analysed using a sequence of statistical treatments (factor analysis, cluster analysis and analysis of variance). The study adopts a perspective other than those of linear models to investigate the KMP arrangements applied by firms and their relation to innovation. The findings suggest that (1) firms adopt balanced KMP arrangements; (2) assuring a certain degree of knowledge application, firms can reach comparable levels of innovation by emphasizing either sharing or storage processes; knowledge sharing processes can compensate for lower levels of other knowledge processes and sustain better levels of innovation; and (3) investments in KMP tend to reach a maximum effect, from which innovation decelerates. The study focuses on the relationship between the KMPs and innovation in the information technology sector, thereby limiting generalization to other sectors. As a practical implication, knowledge managers are provided with information emphasizing the importance of controlling the investments and the organization of KMP arrangements aimed at innovation.

Abstract:
Immediately following the review of the New South Wales (NSW) Kangaroo Management Program (KMP) in 1997, the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service initiated a strategic planning process involving the NSW Kangaroo Management Advisory Committee. In April 2000 the strategic planning process progressed into a full review of the KMP 1998-2002 and various reports were commissioned. The draft KMP 2002-2006 was released for public comment on 14 July 2001. Key issues considered when preparing the new program were the legislative framework, the inclusion of goals and objectives that can be audited, the merits of damage mitigation as a rationale for commercial kangaroo use and the format and writing style of the KMP 1998-2002. Following analysis of submissions on the draft KMP 2002-2006, the program was finalised and submitted to the Australian Commonwealth Government for approval. The KMP 2002-2006 was approved by the Commonwealth and is valid from 1 January 2002 to 31 December 2006. The KMP 2002-2006 has a single overarching goal to maintain viable populations of kangaroos throughout their ranges in accordance with the principles of ecologically sustainable development. This goal is serviced by six new management-based objectives, each of which is covered by a specific section in the new management program. The new management program no longer relies on identification of damage as justification for commercial kangaroo use, and facility for an adaptive management approach has been added for the first time. Specific arrangements for ongoing program audits, periodic full program reviews and community awareness and participation are further additions to the new management program.

Abstract:
The stability of Hagen-Poiseuille flow of a Newtonian fluid of viscosity η in a tube of radius R surrounded by a viscoelastic medium of elasticity G and viscosity ηs occupying the annulus R < r < HR is determined using a linear stability analysis. The inertia of the fluid and the medium are neglected, and the mass and momentum conservation equations for the fluid and wall are linear. The only coupling between the mean flow and fluctuations enters via an additional term in the boundary condition for the tangential velocity at the interface, due to the discontinuity in the strain rate in the mean flow at the surface. This additional term is responsible for destabilizing the surface when the mean velocity increases beyond a transition value, and the physical mechanism driving the instability is the transfer of energy from the mean flow to the fluctuations due to the work done by the mean flow at the interface. The transition velocity Γt for the presence of surface instabilities depends on the wavenumber k and three dimensionless parameters: the ratio of the solid and fluid viscosities ηr = (ηs/η), the capillary number λ = (T/GR) and the ratio of radii H, where T is the surface tension of the interface. For ηr = 0 and λ = 0, the transition velocity Γt diverges in the limits k [Lt ] 1 and k [Gt ] 1, and has a minimum for finite k. The qualitative behaviour of the transition velocity is the same for λ < 0 and ηr = 0, though there is an increase in λt in the limit k > 1. When the viscosity of the surface is non-zero (ηr < 0), however, there is a qualitative change in the λtvs. k curves. For ηr < 1, the transition velocity λt is finite only when k is greater than a minimum value kmin, while perturbations with wavenumber k < kmin are stable even for λ → ∞. For ηr > 1, λt is finite only for kmin < k < kmax, while perturbations with wavenumber k < kmin or k > kmax are stable in the limit λ → ∞. As H decreases or ηr increases, the difference kmax − kmin decreases. At a minimum value H = Hmin which is a function of ηr, the difference kmax − kmin = 0, and for H < Hmin, perturbations of all wavenumbers are stable even in the limit λ → ∞. The calculations indicate that Hmin shows a strong divergence proportional to exp (0.0832nr2) for ηr [Gt ] 1.

Abstract:
This study evaluated the efficacy of Lactobacillus acidophilus YT1 (MENOLACTO) for alleviating menopausal symptoms. This study was a multi-center, randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial involving female subjects (ages: 40–60 years) with menopausal symptoms and a Kupperman index (KMI) score ≥ 20. Subjects were administered 1 × 108 CFU/day MENOLACTO or placebo, with the primary endpoint being total KMI score, and the effect of secondary endpoints on alleviating menopausal symptoms according to individual categories of the modified KMI, as well as a quality of life questionnaire (MENQOL questionnaire). After 12 weeks, total KMI scores decreased significantly, demonstrating improved menopausal symptoms relative to placebo along with improved modified KMI scores. Additionally, quality of life, according to the MENQOL questionnaire, significantly improved in all four symptoms—physical, psychosocial, vasomotor, and sexual symptoms. Moreover, we observed no significant difference between the two groups or significant changes in blood follicle-stimulating hormone and estradiol levels or endometrial thickness. These results demonstrated that MENOLACTO alleviated menopausal symptoms without notable side effects and improved quality of life, suggesting its efficacy as an alternative supplement to alleviate menopausal symptoms in women ineligible for hormonal therapy.

Abstract:
This is a commentary on methodological challenges and analytical requirements in designing an evaluation of the knowledge, motivation, attitude, preventive practice-outcome (KMAP-O) model for selfcare management of diabetes. Critical issues pertaining to an investigation of the dose-response relationship between the intervention program and outcomes, the comparative effectiveness evaluation, and the lengths of observation were noted. Although numerous publications on factors influencing diabetes care and control were systematically reviewed and documented in the literature, scientific results on artificial intelligence research remain to be uncovered. To optimizing the knowledge and clinical practice in selfcare management, specific methodological approaches to predictive analytics are suggested for future clinical studies, using a comprehensive behavioral system such as the KMAP-O model.

Abstract:
Purpose- In today’s heavy competitive environment, organizations have found that the knowledge is the best tool for keeping up with competitors. In this regard, the role of employees, as knowledge holders and the most important capital of organizations have been being taken into account more than before. Since the existence of social capital in organizations lead to improvement and development of knowledge management processes (KMP), examining the level of social capital as an important dimension of intellectual capital and its role in KMP is the main purpose of this article. Design/methodology/approach- By reviewing the existing literature and using standardized questionnaire, it was tried to examine the relationship between social capital and KMP through the moderating role of organic structure and innovative culture in the organization. After review of the existing literature in depth, we took advantages of Nahapiet and Ghoshal Model for measuring social capital and in order to measure the KMP, Bukowitz and Williams Model was used. The main hypothesis of this research was that there was a significant relationship between KMP and social capital through moderating role of organic structure and innovative culture in the organization. In order to test the hypothesis, using the test methods for correlation coefficients (Pearson and Spearman), a standardized questionnaire was designed and distributed among our target segment including faculty members, researchers and administrative staffs of university. Findings- The results showed that contrary to our expectation, considering moderator variables, structure and culture does not have positive and significant effect on KMP in the level of the organic structure and innovative culture of social capital. It was revealed that considering those two variables, social capital does have a significant and positive effect on KMP in the level of mechanical structure and non-innovative culture. We also found that there was a considerable relationship between cognitive and relational dimensions of social capital and KMP. Besides that, it was understood that there was a positive and significant relationship between each of organic structure and innovative culture’s variables and social capital and KMP’s variables. Research limitations/implications– Risks of method variance or response biases are likely as all Data are drawn from employee surveys, and some selection bias as respondents could not be directly compared with non-respondents. Originality/value – This study makes a significant contribution to the intangible assets literature by providing further evidence of the impact of culture and structure on intellectual capital.

Abstract:
Fracture mechanics technology is an effective tool for characterizing the rates of fatigue crack propagation. Generally, fatigue crack growth rate (da/dN) in each loading cycle can be presented as a function of stress intensity range (ΔK), where ΔK = Kmax — Kmin, Kmax and Kmin are the maximum and the minimum stress intensities, respectively. A typical fatigue crack growth rate curve of da/dN versus ΔK can be divided into three regimes, i.e., Stage I (near-threshold), Stage II (Paris), and Stage III (fast) crack growth regions, as shown in Figure 1.Depending on the region of crack growth, fatigue crack growth behavior can be sensitive to microstructure, environment, and loading conditions [e.g., R (load) ratio = Kmin / Kmax]. In the nearthreshold region, fatigue crack growth rates are very slow, ranging from approximately 10−10 to 10−8 m/cycle. In this region, the fatigue crack growth rate curve eventually reaches a threshold stress intensity range, ΔKth, below which the crack would not grow or grow at an extremely slow rate. Typically, the value of ΔKth is operationally defined as the stress intensity range which gives a corresponding crack growth rate of 10−10 m/cycle. In the nearthreshold region, the influence of microstructure, environment, and load ratio on the rates of crack propagation is very significant.

Abstract:
Purpose – Prior studies examine the relationship between knowledge management (KM) enablers and KM effectiveness. However, the critical role of business process outcome is neglected. The purpose of this paper is to understand the mediating effect of business process outcomes. Based on knowledge-based view (KBV), two KM enabler variables, KM infrastructure (KMI) and KM capabilities (KMC), and one KM effectiveness variable, market relationships, are included. Design/methodology/approach – A survey was conducted. The sampling frame was obtained from the database of the Bureau of National Health Insurance and Financial Supervisory Commission in Taiwan. After unusable questionnaires excluded, the usable respondents were 256 which are from 63 hospitals and 93 financial firms. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the relationships among KMI, KMC, business process outcome, and market relationships. Findings – The findings indicated that both KMI and KMC have positive influences on market relationships through business process outcome. The authors also demonstrate how KMI and KMC improve market relationships through business process outcome to deliver the value of KM. Originality/value – Based on KBV, KMI and KMC are as KM enablers to facilitate KM activities. In the light of professional service industries (i.e. hospitals and financial firms), the study highlights the mediating effect of business process outcomes between KM enablers and KM effectiveness. It furthers the understanding of how KM enablers can improve KM effectiveness.

Abstract:
Plagiarism is a crime that often occurs in the academic world, plagiarism occurs because of theft of other people's work that is illegally recognized as if the work is his own. N-gram is an algorithm by cutting as many characters as N-characters in a sentence or word. While the Knuth Morris Pratt (KMP) algorithm is a string search algorithm, this algorithm is used to maintain information that is used to carry out the number of shifts whenever there is no matched patency in the text. The purpose of this study is to create a system to measure the comparison of the accuracy of the N-gram algorithm with a website-based KMP on a thesis abstract document. This research uses the waterfall system development method which has stages, namely analysis, design, coding, and testing. The KMP test results are better than N-gram where kmp has an average percentage of 3.8% while the N-gram 3.5% results are obtained from an average of 10 trials and 5 documents tested.

Abstract:
The Patient Safety Goals (SKP) drive specific improvements in patient safety. These objectives highlight problematic areas of health care in a system implemented in hospitals to make patient care safer. This study aims to analyze the implementation of patient safety goals in Makassar City Hospital. This type of research is mixed methods research. The research uses a sequential explanatory strategy. The results showed that the implementation of patient safety targets based on the Hospital Patient Safety Target Standards (SNARS) at Makassar City Hospital has a good implementation of patient safety targets. The implementation of patient safety targets in terms of leadership in the Makassar City Regional General Hospital (RSUD), namely the awarding of awards has never been done, and supervision is carried out by looking at patient safety reports. In terms of human resources, training related to patient safety is still lacking and only during accreditation. Regarding policies, there are SOPs related to patient safety incidents and there is no clear sanction, only a warning. For teamwork, there is no availability of a patient safety team in the treatment room, only KMKP has a patient safety team. In addition, the implementation of patient safety goals in terms of communication, namely the existence of positive feedback given and followed up by the Patient Safety and Quality Committee (KMKP), as well as lack of socialization by KMKP, only at the time of accreditation.

Abstract:
IntroductionThe international guideline for treating depression has been widely used.ObjectivesThe current study focused on the maintenance treatment section of the third revision of Korean Medication Algorithm for Depressive Disorder (KMAP-DD)MethodsA 44-item questionnaire was used to obtain the consensus of experts regarding pharmacological treatment strategies for depressive disorder. Of the 144 committee members, 79 psychiatrists responded to the survey. Each treatment strategy or treatment option was evaluated with the nine-point scale.ResultsMost clinicians answered to maintain both antidepressants (AD) and atypical antipsychotics (AAP) for psychotic depression in remission state. The duration of AD maintenance: from 19.8 weeks to 46.8 weeks for patients in remission of the first episode, from 34.8 weeks to 78.4 weeks for the second depressive episode, and long-term continuation for three or more depressive episodes. Aripiprazole was the most preferred AAP. The preferred doses of AD and AAP in maintenance treatment were about 75% and 50% of those in acute treatment The maintenance of AAP in the psychotic depression in remission was similar to the AD, although shorter and less.ConclusionsThe maintenance strategies of KMAP-DD 2017 were similar to those of KMAP-DD 2012. Most clinicians preferred to maintain AD for substantial duration after achieving remission. The maintenance of AAP was also preferred, but the duration was shorter than AD.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Abstract:
A new breed of Knowledge Management Systems (KMS), referred to as the Next Generation of Knowledge Management (NGKM), aims at overcoming the limitations of existing KMS regarding the range and quality of supportable Knowledge Management activities. Therefore, AI-based technologies are employed to enable automated knowledge item processing instead of the information retrieval functionality provided by conventional KMS. This paper presents the Knowledge Management Platform (KMP) developed in the h-TechSight project as an NGKM solution. It is designed to support organizations in technology intensive industries in monitoring changes in their external environment as an important factor in competitiveness. Therefore, the KMP combines NGKM enabling technologies for automatically observation of information resources on the Internet in order to notify users whenever a change in their domain of interest occurs. The aim of this paper is to position the KMP as a KMS of the next generation and to delineate the lessons learned in KMS design in the h-TechSight project. Thus, we illustrate the idea of NGKM with special emphasis on enabling technologies and, on this basis, expose the functional design and technical realization of the h-TechSight KMP.

Abstract:
This study aimed to evaluate the fungicidal effect of eight essential oils against five strains of the genus Rhizopus. Strains were obtained from various moldy foods, namely Rhizopus stolonifer KMi 383 from chestnut, R. stolonifer KMi 510 from strawberry, R. stolonifer KMi 511 from nectarine, R. stolonifer KMi 524 from cherry tomatoes, and R. lyococcus KMi 512 from blackberry. The essential oils (EO) used in this study were jasmine EO (extract from Jasminum officinale L.), bergamot EO (Mentha aquatica L. var. citrata (Her.) Fresen), bitter orange EO (from Citrus aurantium L.), grapefruit EO (Citrus paradisi Macfady), sweet flag EO (East Asian Calamus, from Acorus calamus L. var. angustatus Bes), star anise EO (from Illicium verum J.D.Hook), geranium EO (from Pelargonium graveolens), and lemongrass EO (from Cymbopogon citratus DC). The semi-quantitative composition of the essential oil samples was determined by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The antifungal activity of essential oils against the strains of R. stolonifer and R. lyococcus was determined during 7 days, using the micro-atmosphere method (0.625 μL.mL-1 of air). Two essential oils, geranium and lemongrass, completely inhibited the growth of all isolates. Bitter orange essential oil inhibited the growth of all isolates of Rhizopus stolonifer, but isolate of Rhizopus lyococcus began to grow after four days of cultivation. In conclusion, certain essential oils are highly effective in the vapor phase. These could be used in further tests of their antifungal activity and could be used in the control of Rhizopus spp. or other fungal pathogens.

Abstract:
Internet of Things (IoTs) are becoming one of the integral parts of our lives, as all of the modern devices including pervasive systems use internet for its connectivity with the rest of the world. The Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) provides unique identification and nonline of sight capabilities, therefore plays a very important role in development of IoTs. However, the RFID systems incorporate wireless channel for communication, therefore have some allied risks to the system from threat agents. In order to prevent the system from malicious activities in a cost effective way, numerous Ultralightweight Mutual Authentication Protocols (UMAPs) have been proposed since last decade. These UMAPs mainly involve simple bitwise logical operators such as XOR, AND, OR, etc., in their designs and can be implemented with extremely low cost RFID tags. However, most of the UMAP designers didn’t provide the proper hardware approximations of their UMAPs and presented only theoretical results which mostly mislead the reader. In this paper, we have addressed this problem by reporting our experiences with FPGA and ASIC-based implementation of UMAP named psuedo Kasami code-based Mutual Authentication Protocol (KMAP[Formula: see text]. Further, we have also improved the structure of the KMAP protocol to overcome the previously highlighted attack model. The hardware implementation results show that KMAP[Formula: see text] successfully conform to EPC-C1G2 tags and can be implemented using less than 4[Formula: see text]K GE (for 32-bit word length).
