Full textKlezmer music, formerly practiced by Ashkenazi Jewish musicians to enliven celebrations linked to Jewish life in Eastern Europe, was enriched by migrations and impoverished by the numerous pogroms suffered by the Jewish people. Parallel to the "revival" of klezmer music in the United States in the 1970s, the Parisian klezmer music scene experienced a revival and it has since developed with various ensembles practicing exclusively klezmer music, others combining klezmer music and Yiddish singing, and educational ensembles. The klezmer music scene then stood out for its musical approach, at the crossroads of conservation and innovation. By adopting an ethnomusicological approach, this thesis explores the multiple dimensions of the current Parisian klezmer musical scene, focusing on its definition, its relationship to the context, its musical interpretation and its transmission. Through a precise analysis of the discourses, this thesis shows how the definition of the word "klezmer" evolves over time and adapts to the contexts of practice and the interpretations of the musicians, to sometimes differ from that given by the musicological writings. By adopting a comparative approach and thanks to the observation of Yiddish gatherings holding an important place in the international transmission of klezmer music, this thesis aims to enrich the understanding of Parisian cultural diversity by observing what place klezmer music holds in the landscape. Parisian city on the one hand, and in an international klezmer community on the other

Full textVacant lots and derelict spaces along motorways, insofar as they are wastelands, have a temporary but chronic existence in the city. These wastelands may appear, from the outside, to be abandoned, unoccupied, and sometimes impenetrable. However, they often include shelters, tents or huts, little or not at all visible from the urban spaces that surround them. Based on an ethnography of these discrete, precarious and unstable situations, this doctoral dissertation in anthropology examines from within and through the lens of dwelling, wastelands located in the inner suburbs of Paris. What does the effacement of shelters tell about the "being-in-the-world" and the relationship to the city of their inhabitants? How does this visual disappearance make it possible to understand what constitutes a certain habitability of wasteland? How does this habitability differ from, and even how does it confront, appropriation? Effacement of shelters, “being-in-the-world”, and relationship to the city show that, among other things, these wasteland - seemingly useless, fenced, indeterminate, unsuitable as housing or shelter - are, within the determined, planned and controlled city, essential for those who, French or foreign, from Europe or otherwise, migrants or immigrants, staying for a short time or for a long time in the city, do not have their own space and are not protected by society, the City or the State

Full textBased on a case study built around the analysis of the speeches produced by the various actors in the institutional fields concerned (the field of tourist accommodation for Airbnb, that of passenger transportation for Uber), I seek to highlight the strategies of the platforms to build their place in the social space. I use different analytical grids to understand the strategies implemented by Airbnb and Uber: the dynamics of platform business ecosystems developed by strategic management research, the megamarketing grid defined by Kotler in 1986, neo-institutional theory and its latest developments concerning institutional work and the question of legitimacy. I find that Airbnb and Uber have each mobilized their megamarketing skills in their own way to build their business ecosystem and legitimacy system, which is a real support for their institutional conquest. These different expressions of their strategies are also embodied in the institutional work process, which is oriented towards negotiation for Airbnb and confrontation for Uber. The results of the institutional process have similarities between the two cases: constitution of the legitimacy systems necessary to interpret the role of these two platforms, legal recognition of the activities permitted by the platforms and their producer sides, adjustment of the offers of established professionals. This work provides a glimpse of a platform life cycle model, taking into account the dynamics of these organizational forms and those resulting from institutional work and their quest for legitimacy

Full textThis thesis aims to explore the monetization potential of non-market values in the environmental sector, for public decisions, through the analysis of two examples : renewable energy produced by photovoltaic solar panels and household waste management. Thus, it was necessary to create a valuation weighting factors reference base, so as to convert the impact of quantitative flows (tons of C02 , kg of nitrogen oxide emissions. . . ) into monetized value (euro per C02, euro per kgNOx. . . ). The economic and environmental assessments of the installation of photovoltaic panels on municipal buildings in Paris show a resulting social cost. Concerning domestic waste management in Paris in 2007, monetized data brought forth several interesting facts : environmental benefit of recycling, environmental performance of the SYCTOM incinerators. . . The analysis was undertaken by pursuing a 30 year projection. This analysis served as a reference to study the effectiveness of actions to improve the future environmental performance thus highlighting another benefit of monetization, which is the possibility to develop and analyze scenarios under budget constraint. The results based on WF coming from different studies and settings are weak but preferable to the lack of data which may lead to potentially arbitrary decisions and therefore contrary to environmental interest (secondary effects not taken into account, mobilizing budget for limited effects. . . ). These verifiable results with ranges of uncertainty represent support of discussion around a single aggregate indicator easier to handle and more comprehensible than multiple physical flows of impacts. A wide set of referenced WF accompanied by rules of use and rules of evolution would allow developing interest in monetization in France and thus generating decision tools

Full textWhich are the issues posed for the construction of a church in the urban fabric of the third millennium? Which are, currently, the places of worship -more or less visible- capable of attracting the faithful, the inhabitants but also migrants or visitors in transit? What kind of conflicts can the construction of a church, or more generally of a sacred space, create in a neighborhood and which could be the conditions to avoid it?In some cases, places of worship contribute to reinforce the feeling of belonging and/or identity, they are also points of orientation in the cities, which exceeds the scale of their communities, opening up to other confessions, also. They participate in urban life through many events that we can qualify within culture. This paper interrogates the notion of sacred space from the spatial point of view, through the analysis of the churches built in Rome and Paris, after the Great Jubilee, but also from the standpoint of individual and collective representations.Between tradition and future, attractiveness and repulsion, beyond the symbolic dimension (brand) of the sacred building, the thesis places the question of methodological processes that lead to the construction of a space both real and virtual.Final argument, the comparison between the Italian and French experiences can help to identify the differences between the two systems, the issues of a technical and sociological nature,in order to identify the manner in which we can overcome the monofunctional and restrictive use of the worship site,in favor of multi-functional uses, both internal and aggregated, which allow a wider ownership of these spaces,in an era where the churches are, gradually, more and more empty

Full textThe study of the frech press for the years 1970-1971 often shows a confined vision of the jordanian-palestinian conflict : King Husayn, représentative of a monarchy allied to the West, is viewed throughmajor thematics which still remain. The political system itself apparently rely on the Hashemite monarch whereas ministers did play a key role. Finally the army enable the study of the bedouin constituent of the society and the one of of the major archetypal figures whether it's a matter of the arabian-muslin values or the references regarding the mythical Arab Legion. The study of the Palestinians sers out the question of identity which has been tackled by comparing with other nations. Then comes the question of militant organizations framework Furthermore it's through the repercussions of the urban guerilla tactics and the plane hijackings that the palestinian conflict found itself defined by the journalists. As for the civilians in the majority of both sides, they were rarely taken into account even through they were the main victims of the fighing, from the label of civil war or fraticide applied to the conflict. "Black September" shows the persistency of the radings frame remaining today from the moment one's study a conflict which specificities are the opposition between "progressives" and "reactionaries" a characteristic for seventies
