Abstract:

Apart from its interest as a "model" process for kinetic studies of gas-evolving electrode reactions, the cathodic hydrogen evolution reaction (her) is involved in several processes that are of importance in applied electrochemistry, e.g., as the cathodic co-reactions in the commercial production of C12 and F2, in electrolyses for production of hydrogen, in electrochemical hydrogenation and, indirectly, as the partial process in corrosion of base metals in the absence of oxygen. The present paper reports several aspects of the unusual behavior of the her that is involved as the co-reaction to electrolytic production of F2 from KF/HF melts using carbon anodes and Fe or mild-steel cathodes. Anomalous anodic polarization behavior that arises in electrolytic generation of F2 from KF/HF melts at carbon electrodes is well known. It is characterized by very high Tafel slopes associated with "CF" film formation and by sluggish F2 bubble disengagement from the electrode. Interest in such effects has, however, tended to overshadow rather similar, so-called "hyper polarization" effects that also arise in the cathodic reaction, but for different reasons. The origins and nature of such effects are described and characterized in the present paper, and comparisons are made between behavior of Hz evolution from KF.2HF and that from the aquo-system analogue, KOH.2H2O. An important aspect is the very different interfacial behavior in KF/HF or KF.2HF melts from that in the corresponding aquo-system. Effects of As-species in HF feeds is investigated in terms of electro catalysis and poisoning effects on the her.

Abstract:

Актуальность исследования. Единственным промышленным способом получения фтора является электролиз фтороводорода из расплавов гидрофторидов калия системы KF·nHF. При этом в основном используют среднетемпературные (95–105 °С) электролизеры с электролитом состава KF·2HF на силу тока от 5 до 40 кА. Электролизер является весьма сложным аппаратом, в котором решено множество проблем, связанных с агрессивностью сред фтора, фтороводорода и других фторидов. В то же время существует технологическая задача увеличения эксплуатационной стойкости анодов, которые изготавливают из углеродных пластин. Углерод имеет в зависимости от строения материала различную структуру: графит, сажа, кокс, алмаз и другие. Для среднетемпературного электролиза наиболее устойчивой формой углерода, в которой углерод имеет разупорядоченную рентген-аморфную структуру, оказался кокс, поэтому эти пластины называют коксовыми. Коксовые пластины получают в основном из нефтяного пиролизного малосернистого кокса определенного фракционного состава и каменноугольного пека. В последнее время качество коксовых пластин стало крайне низким: некоторые компоненты пластин были заменены на более дешевые, например, нефтяной пек – на каменноугольный. Качество коксовых пластин российских производителей должно соответствовать требованиям ТУ 48-12-34-95 «Пластины коксовые обожженные». В ТУ приведены следующие показатели и требования к ним: кажущаяся плотность – не менее 1,64 кг/дм3; прочность на сжатие – не менее 58,8 МПа; пористость – не более 21 %; содержание золы – не более 0,6 %; удельное электрическое сопротивление – (25–40) мкОм·м. При анализе фторного производства России было замечено, что срок службы многих коксовых пластин, удовлетворяющих требованиям ТУ, не является максимальным. Это свидетельствует о недостаточности числа показателей для оценки качества коксовых пластин, установленных этим ТУ. Поэтому исследования, направленные на разработку новых способов оценки качества коксовых пластин, являются актуальными. В связи с этим нами был проведен комплексный анализ качества коксовых пластин, выпускаемых зарубежными фирмами, с целью проверки возможности использования их при производстве фтора в России. Цель: проведение анализов по определению физико-механических, химических и физико-химических характеристик коксовых пластин зарубежных фирм и установление их качества. Методы: дифференциальный термический анализ, рентгеноструктурный анализ, атомно-эмиссионная спектроскопия, сканирующая электронная микроскопия, физико-механические и электрические методы анализа. Результаты. Были определены: плотность, пористость, зольность, удельное электрическое сопротивление, прочность на сжатие коксовых пластин иностранных производителей, которые в основном удовлетворяют требованиям российского ТУ 48-12-34-95, но имеют и различия. Прочность на сжатие китайских пластин марки «HS» превосходит требования ТУ почти в 1,8 раз. Пористость и зольность японских пластин значительно ниже требований российского ТУ. В связи с этим провели элементный анализ пластин методом атомно-эмиссионной спектроскопии и установили, что химические составы коксовых пластин близки. Суммарное содержание примесей в исследованных коксовых пластинах не превышает 0,5–0,6 мас. %, причем содержание основной вредной примеси – серы – в образцах не превышает 0,1–0,3 %. Определили размеры пор и их распределение в пластинах с применением сканирующей электронной микроскопии. В целом для французских и китайских образцов характерны поры с размерами в интервале 2,9–117 мкм, для немецких образцов – с размерами менее 5,9 мкм. Почти 70 % пор японских образцов соответствуют трем интервалам: 2,9–5,9; 2,0–2,3 и 0,9–2,0 мкм. Анализом с использованием рентгеновских лучей установили, что материалы всех производителей имеют схожие дифракционные картины, кроме японских «GS-R», для которых характерно наличие значительного количества углерода со структурой графита, определенных по положению рефлексов. Это, видимо, связано с различными условиями процесса кристаллообразования при изготовлении данных коксовых пластин. По результатам дифференциально-термического анализа определили характеристики основных процессов, протекающих при нагревании образцов коксовых пластин в атмосфере воздуха, и провели их классификацию по термической стойкости.

Abstract:

’n Proses vir die kleinskaalse laboratoriumvervaardiging van fluoorgas met CaF2 as die invoer-reagens is ontwerp en in bedryf gestel. Die eerste stap maak gebruik van ’n lotreaktor wat CaF2 na anhidriese HF omskakel deur reaksie met anhidriese swawelsuur. Die vervaardigde HF word gestoor in ’n oordragsvat en dan na ’n Pauling-tipe fluoorsel, wat vooraf met KF·HF gelaai is, oorgedra. Die elektroliet, KF·2HF, wat by die bedryfstemperatuur van die sel in die vloeistoffase is, word in-situ gevorm. Waterstoffluoried (HF), op sigself, is ’n swak suur en is nie elektries geleidend genoeg vir elektroliese nie. Die gebrekkige elektriese geleidingsvermoë van HF word omseil deur gebruik te maak van KF·2HF as elektroliet. KF·2HF dissosieer na die ione K+ en F2H- in HF, in die vloeistoffase en gelei eletrisiteit genoegsaam om as elektroliet op te tree. Die HF lotreaktor toon ’n omskakelingsrendement van 70 %. Die fluoorsel het ’n waarneembare bo-potensiaal van 2.7 V en die voltammetriese kromme toon die verwagte elektriese gedrag.
