Abstract:
Trust has been noted as a key component for the success of knowledge management. Recent research on affection in interpersonal trust using empirical research suggests that affection plays a critical role on team effectiveness, knowledge transfer and sharing in team. Yet, the empirical research only obtains a certain period of affection reflecting interpersonal trust; it can not observe the dynamic change of affection. The empirical data lacks universality, which is merely focused on a designated team. In this paper, we give a primitive attempt, by using an agent-based computational model, to explore interpersonal trust, especially to study the quantitative method of emotion and affection generated by knowledge exchange and factors on emotional and affective intensity. We hope that our bold attempt improves the understandings of affection generation and development, and provides agent-based modelling simulations as a supplement of the empirical research to study team effectiveness in future.

Abstract:
A 78-item Animal Use Inventory was constructed. Previous animal attitude scales have centered on affection, bonding, companion animal ownership, animal-human continuity, and general attitudes toward animals, but not use of animals. The present inventory has six scales: Sports and Entertainment, Hunting, Working and Service, Research, Fur, and Loving and Affection. Men scored higher on the Hunting, Research, Entertainment, and Service scales. National Rifle Association members scored higher than animal protection society members on the Hunting and Fur scales. In general, the scales correlated positively with each other but negatively with the Loving and Affection scale. Nevertheless, caution was urged because of the unimpressive Cronbach’s alphas on some of the scales. Further development is recommended. Key words: animal use, ethnicity, gender, scales, hunting, companionship, work, food.

Abstract:
Interpersonal short video forwarding is currently one of the most popular activities of Internet users. One of the key factors that affects this online interpersonal behavior is forwarding intention. In this study, a quality perception → benefit expectation → intention model was proposed to explain the formation of video forwarding intention. To test the model data were collected from 210 undergraduate students. The results showed that perceptions of the quality of the content and empathy affect 3 benefit expectations of control, inclusion, and affection. In addition, control, inclusion, and affection affect forwarding intention.

Abstract:
Few of Kant's doctrines are as difficult to understand as that of self-affection. Its brief career in the published literature consists principally in its unheralded introduction in the Transcendental Aesthetic and unexpected reappearance at a key moment in the Deduction chapter in the second (B) edition of the first Critique. After blazing its trail, self-affection retreats into the background, with a discussion befitting its importance occurring only in the unfinished Opus postumum. This step out of the limelight, however, belies the doctrine's continued importance for Kant; indeed, Kant seemed to think that in self-affection was to be found the key to the project that occupied him in his last years. Thus, ‘the possibility of the transition from the metaphysical foundations of natural science to physics does not consist in the fact that the subject is empirically affected but rather that it affects itself’ (Opus postumum, 22: 405). As he continued to struggle with this doctrine and with the pivot-point on which to work this vital transition, Kant himself would surely come to rue his confident statement in the B Deduction: ‘I do not see how one can find so many difficulties in the fact that inner sense is affected by ourselves’ (B156n).

The vibrant-type-disintegration method is applied to calculate structure seismic action of a weir dam. Based on calculation and analysis of the weir dam, special attention is paid to the stress state of key parts. The results show that the displacement and stress of weir dam are affected by earthquake excitation direction. Since large principal tensile stress appears in the joint of girder and pier, and the zone of principal tensile stress is large because of the thrust of radial gate and steep changes of geometry shape, we should pay special attention when calculating anti-seismic checking and reinforcement arrangement.

Abstract:
A new approach was presented in this paper to partition slub yarn into slub parts and base parts. A voltage signal proportional to the line mass density of slub yarn was firstly acquired with a capacitance sensor and a DAQ (Data AcQuisition) card. Some digital signal processing methods, such as digital filtering and re-sampling, were adopted to reduce the negative affection of sampling noises. An unevenness elimination method was presented to reduce the negative affection of yarn count unevenness, and a greedy algorithm was also presented to calculate the key threshold separating the base and slub parts. Experimental results show that the slub yarn can be partitioned effectively with the presented approach.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this study is three-fold: first, to examine the extent to which service quality (SQ) affects the three components of emotional brand attachment (EBA) (brand passion, brand affection and self-brand connection); second, to investigate the extent to which these three components influence brand loyalty; and third, to test the mediation effect of the components of EBA on the SQ–loyalty relationship. Design/methodology/approach Survey data were collected from 355 respondents using an online panel in the UK. Smart PLS2.0 was used to analyze the data. Findings Three key findings emerge: first, compared to staff behavior, physical environment tends to have a stronger and more significant effect on the three elements of EBA. Second, brand passion and self-brand connection fully mediate the SQ–loyalty relationship, whereas brand affection partially mediates the same relationship. Finally, the SQ–EBA–loyalty relationship is significantly stronger for repeat visitors compared to first-time visitors. Practical implications Hotel brands need to design their facilities and décor and develop guest experiences based on symbolic values and deep emotional aspects. Offering employees customer care training and adopting a consumer-centric, relational, storytelling approach are particularly important to inspire and captivate hotels’ customers and to build and shape profound and enduring affective ties between the hotel brand and its customers. Originality/value The findings offer new insights through examining the symbolic consumption and emotional aspects of a guest’s hotel experience as mediators to the SQ–loyalty relationship. The findings also add to the growing body of knowledge of the antecedents of EBA through identifying physical environment and staff behavior as key determinants of EBA.

Abstract:
Family businesses have long been one of the mainstream business models in developing countries. The smooth succession of control in family businesses is the key to their sustainable development. However, compared with other companies, succession in family business has demonstrated unique complexity, which also affects the development of the business. The paper is based on a review of the existing literature, starting from the theory of family business succession and combining with grounded theory. After that, we conducted field interviews of experts, coding the key factors affecting succession in family businesses in Taiwan. Finally, we explored the considerations and implications of the succession for inheritance planning. The results of this study show that consideration of succession in family businesses involves a multi-dimensional and complex decision-making process. Among the key considerations, it is found that corporate characteristics, family capital and niche inheritance are the most important without consideration of whether the continuation of the business after succession will be doomed to failure. In addition, the family relationship of affection and trust and commitment between both predecessor and successor are important factors that cannot be ignored, especially in a rapidly changing competitive market environment.

Abstract:
SynopsisFour groups of families were investigated using an interview designed to assess expressed emotion (EE) in relatives of psychiatric patients and a family interaction questionnaire (FIQ) based upon the Leary and Benjamin schemes for coding interpersonal behaviour. The families included 25 containing a psychiatric patient aged between 18 and 46, and three groups of 12 families each, all containing a patient over 60 (patients with dementia, a functional psychiatric disorder, or a chronic physical disorder respectively). In all cases data were obtained from key relatives. The FIQ clearly separated out the group of dementia relatives who reported the most dominant and protective behaviours and the highest levels of hostile-dominance and the lowest levels of affection. EE was not found to be so sensitive to interactions occurring in families with a member with dementia, and the possible reasons for this are discussed.

Abstract:
Abstract There is an ambivalence and indecision at the heart of Michel Henry’s phenomenological ontology of life that this article seeks to resolve. Either “Being is a phenomenon only when it is at a distance from itself” or “the immediate is Being itself as originally given to itself in immanence.”1 The decision is, simply put, between distance or immediacy. In order to address this indecision, I put forward an hypothetical expressive interpretation of Henry’s phenomenology of life, drawing upon Gilles Deleuze’s interpretation of post-Cartesian metaphysics. The metaphysical language of expression is used (a) to make clear the internal structure of ‘auto-affection’ — a key concept for Henry’s phenomenology of life — as well as (b) to correct essentialist readings of this put forward by Dominique Janicaud and (c) broadly Hegelian interpretations put forward by François-David Sebbah. This expressive reading clarifies the ontological significance of life and auto-affection, showing more clearly the way the living self relates to Life or God as a dynamic movement and flux, without distance, gap, or transcendence. Through the clarification of Henry’s ontology of life in terms of expression a further ambiguity with regard to the theological significance and status of Life is revealed. The identification of an immanent and auto-affective Life with God in the early works appears closer to a Spinozist God than the later, Christian writings otherwise suggest. It is possible for the immediate, inner experience of auto-affective life to be as much secular as religious. I discuss this in the final part of this article.

In order to investigate the impact factors and their affection on high-speed precision multilink punch press (MPP), the dynamic model with different joint clearance was established, and the influence of different clearance and speed on the dynamic positional repeatability of bottom dead center (BDC) was analyzed. The elastic dynamic model of high-speed MPP was established, the affection of the elastic deformation and elastic wave on the positional repeatability of the BDC were presented by using modal superposition method to solve dynamic equation. Meanwhile, experiments on the dynamic repeatability of the BDC of the punch during working were completed. At last, the comparison of the experimental results with the analyzed results was given, and based on which, it can be concluded that the clearance, elastic wave and deformation are the key factors of the dynamic repeatability precision of the BDC.

Is the ‘economy of affection’, as suggested by Goran Hyden, the key factor determining social relations in East Africa and elsewhere? According to this thesis, both villagers and city-dwellers are tied together in webs of kinship and tribal obligation that mitigate against the accumulation of wealth or capital necessary for the formation of either industrial modes of production or class-based societies. Hyden claims that the high values placed on personal relationships are dependent upon ‘a peasant mode of production’, and that, in the case of Tanzania, their persistence and perseverance has been the most significant factor inhibiting economic development. In short, the ‘smallness’ of the peasantry is a source of power.

Optic neuritis (ON) is a key feature of neuromyelitis optica (NMO). Recently, NMO patients of predominantly Afro-Brazilian origin were evaluated by visual evoked potentials (VEPs) and showed marked amplitude reductions. Here, we analyzed VEPs in a predominantly Caucasian cohort, consisting of 43 patients with definite NMO, 18 with anti-aquaporin (AQP) 4 antibody-seropositive NMO spectrum disorders and 61 matched healthy controls. We found reduced amplitudes in only 12.3%, prolonged latencies in 41.9% and a lack of response in 14.0% of NMO eyes. Delayed P100 latencies in eyes without prior ON suggested this was a subclinical affection. The data indicate heterogenous patterns in NMO, warranting further investigation.

Abstract:
Urolithiasis is currently one of the most pressing problems of modern urology and medicine in general. The pathogenesis of urolithiasis is multifactorial and caused by various metabolic disorders, in particular carbohydrate, the main manifestation of which is diabetes mellitus. In connection with the above, a comparative approach to the study of metabolic disorders in patients with diabetic kidney damage, in particular hyperuricemia, is relevant in order to identify possible causes of lithogenesis. The purpose of the study is to study the effect of secondary hyperuricemia on the formation of urinary stones in patients with diabetic kidney damage, compared with non-diabetic nephropathies. Materials and methods. The study included 59 patients with chronic kidney disease, including 27 with diabetic nephropathy and 32 with non-diabetic nephropathy. All patients underwent a comprehensive clinical and laboratory study, which included glycosylated hemoglobin, glycemic profile, lipid complex, C-reactive protein, serum creatinine, urea, electrolytes, uric acid, uric acid clearance, glomerular filtration rate, and ultrasound examination of the urinary system. Results and discussion. Urolithiasis was detected in 70.3 % patients with diabetic kidney disease and in 29.6% patients with non-diabetic pathology. The stones had a renal localization: pelvic stones occurred in 38.9% patients, stones in calyces – in 61.1% patients. When assessing the biochemical parameters, the average level of uric acid in the blood serum of patients with diabetes mellitus significantly exceeded the same indicator in the group of patients with non-diabetic pathology. Also, the level of hyperuricemia was higher in diabetic patients with a glycosylated hemoglobin content of more than 8.5%, compared with patients with an HbA1 concentration of less than 7.5%. In patients of both groups compared with serum uric acid concentrations exceeding the level of 498.5 mmol/l in men and 384.2 mmol/L in women, there was a progression of arterial hypertension. In patients with diabetic nephropathy, there was a significant increase in the level of cholesterol, low-density lipoproteins and triglycerides, which provided an increase in the value of the atherogenicity index to 5.7±1.2. Conclusion. In patients with diabetic kidney damage, there are prerequisites for the development of urolithiasis, due to the development of a number of metabolic disorders that affect kidney function and the composition of urine. The key links in the pathogenesis of more frequent development of urolithiasis in this category of patients are secondary hyperuricemia, as well as disorders of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism in the form of hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia

Abstract:
Purpose — to discover peculiarities of Wilson disease course in children dependently on the variant of liver affection. Materials and methods. Anamnesis of the disease and clinical and paraclinical peculiarities of the course of the disease with consideration of liver affection severity have been studied in 50 children aged 5–17 years. Results. It was estimated that in 52% of children the disease had a form of chronic hepatitis with minimal clinical symptoms, 44% of patients had liver cirrhosis with predominant signs of edematous and ascitic syndrome and 4% had fulminant hepatitis in a debut of the disease. Complicated family anamnesis was detected in 4% of patients. Syndrome of cytolysis predominated in patients with liver damage in the form of chronic hepatitis (р<0.05). Typical biochemical changes in cirrhotic patients were hepatocellular insufficiency with hypoalbuminemia and coagulopathy, hyperbilirubinemia and minimal hypertransaminasemia (р<0.05). Children with cirrhosis in contrast to patients with chronic hepatitis had reliably lower serum ceruloplasmin concentration and reliably higher excretion of copper with urine. Specific for Wilson disease Kayser—Fleischer rings were found out in 36% of patients only. Conclusions. Wilson's disease in children is characterized by progressing course in the form of either chronic hepatitis or liver cirrhosis or, rarely, fulminant hepatitis. Clinical and paraclinical symptoms of the disease are estimated by the severity of liver affection and vary from a course with minimal symptoms in patients with chronic hepatitis to edematous and ascitic syndrome and hepatocellular insufficiency in patients with cirrhosis and fulminant hepatitis. The research was carried out in accordance with the principles of the Helsinki declaration. The study protocol was approved by the Local Ethics Committee of all participating institution. The informed consent of the patient was obtained for conducting the studies. No conflict of interest was declared by the authors. Abstract:
Localization is one of the key components in the operation of self-driving cars. Owing to the noisy global positioning system (GPS) signal and multipath routing in urban environments, a novel, practical approach is needed. In this study, a sensor fusion approach for self-driving cars was developed. To localize the vehicle position, we propose a particle-aided unscented Kalman filter (PAUKF) algorithm. The unscented Kalman filter updates the vehicle state, which includes the vehicle motion model and non-Gaussian noise affection. The particle filter provides additional updated position measurement information based on an onboard sensor and a high definition (HD) map. The simulations showed that our method achieves better precision and comparable stability in localization performance compared to previous approaches.

Abstract There is a growing consensus that (im)politeness is associated with participants’ situated evaluations vis-à-vis the moral order (Haugh 2013a, 2015b; Kádár and Haugh 2013). This paper focuses on impoliteness as evaluative practices underpinned by the moral order of qingmian (lit., affection-based face). Drawing on data from Chinese interpersonal conflicts, the study reveals that unmet renqing (favor) expectations and unmet mianzi/lian (face) expectations are often evaluated as qingmian threats by participants, and thereby cause conflicts and disharmony. Our analysis investigates three key issues: (1) qingmian threat as the cause of interpersonal conflicts, (2) cultural factors influencing expectations associated with ‘taking offence’ in Chinese and (3) the implications of qingmian threat for (im)politeness theory at the etic level.

Approach to ethno-phenomenology was made towards five subjects who were chosen by purposive sampling technique. The results showed several conclusions. Harmony of life is the main reason that animates the conservation practice. Peace was translated as biospheric values namely, niteni (pay attention carefully), gemati (nurture with affection) and altruistic value nguri-uri (maintaining a legacy for the next generation). Culturally, the agents who were able to revive the conservation movement has high participation in community activities (akeh srawung), trusted as the source of information and had networked with local policy figure (key figure) as the head of the village and the regent. Without the support of a key figure, collective efficacy will weaken due to the loss of access to the collective agreement and conformity of the conservation movement.

Abstract:
Induced forces in secondary steel bridge members such as diaphragms and cross-bracing can cause out-of-plane distortion in webs that may lead to fatigue cracking. Such cracking is most likely to occur if the distortion must be accommodated in a short length of the web, such as in the gap between the end of transverse stiffeners and girder flanges, because the web gap is subject to double curvature. In this paper, the numerical analysis model of a real 3-span continue steel bridge was established using ANSYS software to calculate the real fatigue stress at the web gaps. Some key structural parameters, for example, web gap depth and web thickness, have been considered in the numerical models. The results show that web thickness and web gap depth give the great affection on the out-of-plane distortion fatigue stress at web gaps.

Abstract:
Abstract In this study, we propose an electroencephalogram (EEG)-based long short-term memory networks model for recognizing user preferences toward architectural design images. An EEG is an approach that records the electrical activity in the brain, and EEG-based affection recognition is a technique used for quantitatively recognizing human emotion by analysing the recorded signals. Decision-makers’ subjective reactions toward architectural design alternatives may play a key role in the architectural planning and design stage. In this regard, the proposed model enables the quantitative recognition of their preferences and supports architects in the planning and design stages. The suggested model classifies the recorded data using a deep-learning technique. To build the model, an EEG recording experiment was conducted with 18 subjects, who were asked to select their most/least preferred images among eight images of small-housing design. Post recording, a positive and negative affect schedule questionnaire was distributed to the subjects to rate their affection. Google TensorFlow and Keras were used to structure the model. After training, precision, recall, and f1 score metrics were used to evaluate and validate the model. This model can help designers to evaluate design alternatives in terms of decision-making. Moreover, as this model uses biosignal data, which is universal to humans, architectural design processes for children, the elderly, etc., may be supported. Furthermore, a data-driven design database may be proposed in a future research for cross-validating with previous methods such as interviews and observations.

Abstract:
Act no. 142/2015 highlights the importance of children out-of-home being placed in a family context. However, foster care continues to be an almost absent component in the Portuguese childcare system. In 2017, it corresponded to just 3% of out-of-home care. This research aims to contribute to the understanding of the reasons for becoming a foster family. It adopted a qualitative approach, using carers’ narrative interviews and practitioners semi-structured interviews, inspired by grounded theory. Foster family motivation is rooted in altruism, affection for children and sensitivity to maltreatment. These factors, as well as personal life course and contact with out-of-home care, induce a predisposition to become a foster family. The quality of the support services and the care professionals’ performance also reveal key elements.

Abstract:
Abstract Despite the fact that different Chinese communities have already undergone industrialization and urbanization, Confucian virtues are still regarded as developmental ideals in Chinese culture. Unfortunately, while Confucian virtues are commonly discussed under Chinese philosophies, they are rarely examined in the context of developmental research. In this paper, several key Confucian virtues are discussed, including loyalty (“zhong”), filial piety (“xiao”), benevolence (“ren”), affection (“ai”), trustworthiness (“xin”), righteousness (“yi”), harmony (“he”), peace (“ping”), propriety (“li”), wisdom (“zhi”), integrity (“lian”) and shame (“chi”). These Chinese traditional virtues are also linked to the concepts of character strengths and positive youth development constructs highlighted in Western culture. It is argued that Confucian virtues provide an indigenous conceptual framework to understand character strengths and positive youth development in Chinese culture. Furthermore, when service leadership is considered in Chinese contexts, these virtues should be regarded as important cornerstones.

Abstract:
Realistic job previews (RJPs) occur when both positive and negative information about a job is presented to a potential applicant. Because job seekers in the sport industry sometimes target opportunities based upon their personal affection for particular sports/sport organizations, the presentation of realistic information about the actual work could be key. The purpose of this two study, quasi-experimental research design was to examine the effect of RJPs on job seekers’ levels of attraction to sport job openings, perceptions of person-job fit, and job acceptance intentions. Study 1 results suggested job seekers’ acceptance intentions and attraction to the job changed after the job seeker encountered realistic information. Study 2 results suggested job seekers’ acceptance intentions and perceived job fit changed after encountering an RJP where perceived prestige was a factor. Thus, RJPs appear to influence the attractiveness, acceptability, and perceived fit of a job opening in sport.

Abstract:
The key element of the in-process surface roughness monitoring system is the decision-making model, which is utilized to analyze the input factors and then to generate a proper output. The success of the in-process monitoring system depends on the accuracy of the decision-making model. To increase the accuracy and reliability of model, it is important to reduce the variation of the inputs. To achieve this objective, an integration of regression and neural network was developed as a decision-making model in this research. In this integrated model, the regression model was applied as a filter to sort the input variables into groups. Furthermore, the grouped data was implemented to train and to generate different neural networks models to reduce the affection of input variation and increase the accuracy of the monitoring system. The input variables was first filtered by the threshold of regression model, and then analyzed by different neural networks model based on the filtered result. Finally, to evaluate the performance of the integrated model, the regression neural network and traditional neural networks were both developed for surface roughness monitoring system in an end milling operation to compare the accuracy of systems.

In the present article the biographical portrait of Wladimir Putin is examined in Spiegel Biografie 5/17 as part of a political discourse analysis (PDA), the subdiscipline of critical discourse analysis (CDA).The analysis comprises 31 texts: press comments, interviews, diary excerpts and speeches. The objectives of the analysis are based on two aspects: the use of specific language resources in discourse fragments (texts) and their potential impact on readers in different contexts. The use of various language resources is analyzed at the lexicalsemantic and pragmatic level. The analysis shows that the political biography can be regarded as a model for the discursive profiling of politicians. The use of certain positively and negatively charged key words and phrases, pronouns and verbs creates a discursive model in which the affection of the supporters is opposed to the criticism of the opponents. Abstract:
The substantial key to initiate an explicit statistical formula for a physically specified continua is to consider a derivative expression, in order to identify the definitive configuration of the continua itself. Moreover, this statistical formula is to reflect the whole distribution of the formula of which the considered continua is the most likely to be dependent. However, a somewhat mathematically and physically tedious path to arrive at the required statistical formula is needed. The procedure in the present research is to establish, modify, and implement an optimized amalgamation between Airy stress function for elastically-deformed media and the multi-canonical joint probability density functions for multivariate distribution completion, so that the developed distribution is to exhibit a sophisticated illustration of yield probability distribution along a cantilever beam whose structure is subjected to a linearly-distributed load. This combinatorial approach is to clarify the intensity of the stresses exerted onto the beam, to standardize the terms of stresses and their affection and to convert them into a more significant depiction of a probability distribution.

Abstract:
A large (100 km) rocky coast intertidal was sampled several times (from 2004 to 2006) to assess the affection degree of invertebrate assemblages impacted by a continuous oil spill. Twelve locations and two intertidal heights were selected along the coast representing two spatial scales (kilometres and tens of metres). Univariate and multivariate analyses of variance were used to test whether faunal assemblages exposed to different intensities of oil disturbance differ in terms of diversity, total cover, key species cover and trophic guilds. Whereas no significant differences in midshore assemblages were noted, the low intertidal zone exhibited comparatively lower abundance values of the limpet Patella ulyssiponensis at worst affected sites. Besides, a generalized increasing diversity trend was found in the low intertidal from 2004 to 2006. Natural variability of communities is also discussed as the cause of the differences we observed. With respect to spatial and temporal scales of variation, mid- intertidal communities showed a more consistent structure, while lowshore assemblages were markedly heterogeneous in practically all the variables measured.

In this article I shall largely make use of terms like “responding,” “responsive,” and “responsivity.” These terms are not part of traditional philosophy. They became indispensable for my own thinking when I tried to develop a theory of radical Fremdheit, of alienness or otherness. Hence I came to a sort of responsive phenomenology that does not replace current variants of phenomenology, but sets a new tone. This is what I try to show in my article. I shall proceed in four steps. In the first step, dealing with the formation of the theory, I try to show how our experience of radical otherness leads to the key concept of responsivity (sect. 1–3). In the second step, I shall describe the main features of responsivity and its pathological deviations (sect. 4–6). In the third step, this perspective will be expanded by referring to co-affection and co-responsivity as elements of proto-sociality (sect. 7). The fourth and last step will offer a practical outlook, raising the question to what extent responsivity can be organised and institutionalised (sect. 8).

Abstract Avowal and Reflection. About the Transcendentality of Formation We have to think ourselves as free beings. In doing so we also have to acknowledge the factuality of reason, which is the fundament of all formation. In five consecutive steps we want to show, that the never-ending process of formation is essentially accompanied by the unfolding of reason and moral. Thinking about our own thinking therefore not only becomes the key to understand ourselves as reasonable beings, but also to realise the true core of what might be called formation. In the first step we analyse the connection between transcendental philosophy and pedagogy, which is followed by a short illustration regarding the relation between thinking and learning. The third and fourth step deal with the relation of affection and duty as well as the factuality of reason. The acknowledgment of these elements marks – as we call it – the avowal and onset of formation as realising our humanity. We end our draft for a transcendental thinking in pedagogy with an idea of reflection as the implementation of formation.

Abstract:
This article describes the development of Microsoft XiaoIce, the most popular social chatbot in the world. XiaoIce is uniquely designed as an artifical intelligence companion with an emotional connection to satisfy the human need for communication, affection, and social belonging. We take into account both intelligent quotient and emotional quotient in system design, cast human–machine social chat as decision-making over Markov Decision Processes, and optimize XiaoIce for long-term user engagement, measured in expected Conversation-turns Per Session (CPS). We detail the system architecture and key components, including dialogue manager, core chat, skills, and an empathetic computing module. We show how XiaoIce dynamically recognizes human feelings and states, understands user intent, and responds to user needs throughout long conversations. Since the release in 2014, XiaoIce has communicated with over 660 million active users and succeeded in establishing long-term relationships with many of them. Analysis of large-scale online logs shows that XiaoIce has achieved an average CPS of 23, which is significantly higher than that of other chatbots and even human conversations.

Abstract:
Type 1 diabetes is a chronic autoimmune disease that occurs as a result of the destruction of insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas. Among all diseases of the endocrine system, DMT1 is the most significant medical and social problem in children and adolescents. Patients with diabetes are at higher risk of developing gastrointestinal disorders. Involvement of the gastrointestinal tract may occur as a complication of the underlying disease or may result from the operation of general autoimmune pathogenetic mechanisms. As is known, DMT1 is associated with affection of the entire gastrointestinal tract from the oral cavity and oesophagus to the large intestine and anorectal area. In this connection, the symptoms experienced by patients can vary significantly. Frequent complaints may include dry mouth, thirst, dysphagia, early satiety, heartburn, constipation, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. Poor glycaemic control worsens the course of the gastrointestinal tract pathology. Gastroenterological diseases aggravate the course of diabetes. Early diagnosis of comorbid diseases and intervention can prevent complications and potential negative effects on patients' quality of life. Abstract:
Recently, more importance has been attached to consumers’ emotional feelings in the course of product design. Designers must convey positive emotions, such as surprise and affection, to consumers through their designs. For this purpose, image boards have been frequently used in design to position product emotional feeling and arouse design ideas. A large number of pictures are often needed for constructing an image board. However, it is time-consuming and labor-intensive to find appropriate pictures and the pictures that are finally collected may not reflect the expected image of consumers. Therefore, this study aims to take Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability (LOHAS) as an example to build a user-driven database for image boards. In this research, 16 LOHAS representatives were identified and recruited by using a lifestyle questionnaire to collect, and then screen out 50 proposed pictures relevant to the image of LOHAS. Since image boards are usually used by designers, in order to include their ideas, another 16 pictures were selected by the invited experienced product designers to create a comprehensive pool of 66 proposed pictures. Design experts were asked to select six key image adjectives, which included healthy, environmentally friendly, sustainable, natural, simple, and ecological for describing images of the LOHAS, from the vocabulary pool collected by general respondents, LOHAS representatives, and designers. Next, 219 LOHAS subjects were required to carry out a semantic differential assessment of each of the 66 proposed pictures with the six key images, and then two types of analyses on the collected data from the semantic differential assessment. Through mean analysis and grey correlation analysis, the recommended pictures representing LOHAS or six key adjective images were selected. The research results put forward three database application models. The results of this study are expected to be used by designers, users, manufacturers, and educators to help improve product design efficiency in the future.

Abstract:
Background: Amiodarone treatment is effective against various types of arrhythmias but is associated with adverse effects affecting, among other organs, thyroid function. Amiodarone-induced thyroid dysfunction was not thoroughly evaluated in children as it was in adults, yet this affection may lead to irreversible neurodevelopmental complications. Our study aimed to define the incidence and risk factors of amiodarone-induced thyroid dysfunction in children. Methods: The study was designed as an observational study with a retrospective clinical series of 152 children treated by amiodarone in the Pediatric Cardiology Unit of our center from 1990 to 2019. All patients were divided into three groups according to their thyroid status: euthyroid, AIH (amiodarone-induced hypothyroidism) or AIT (amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosis). Patients from these three groups were compared in terms of key clinical and therapeutic features. Results: Amiodarone-induced thyroid dysfunction was present in 23% of patients. AIT (5.3%) was three times less common than AIH (17.7%), and its occurrence increased with older age ( p < 0.05), treatment dosage ( p < 0.05), treatment duration ( p < 0.05) and the number of loading doses administered ( p < 0.05). There were no distinctive clinical features between euthyroid and AIH groups. A multivariable prediction model of AIT was built, with a yield of 66.7% as positive predictive value and 96.7% as negative predictive value. Conclusion: We observed that one in five children developed amiodarone-induced thyroid dysfunction. Special attention is required for older children with a high dosage and long-term therapy and who received a large number of loading doses, since these children are at risk to develop AIT, which is more delicate to manage than AIH.

Abstract:
Volatile plant-derived products were observed to exhibit broad spectrum of biological effects. However, due to their volatility, results of conventional microplate-based bioassays can be significantly affected by the vapors. With aim to demonstrate this phenomenon, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and cytotoxic activities of three essential oils (Alpinia elegans, Cinnamomum iners, and Xanthostemon verdugonianus), one supercritical CO2 extract (Nigella sativa), and four plant-derived compounds (capsaicin, caryophyllene oxide, 8-hydroxyquinoline, and thymoquinone) were evaluated in series of experiments including both ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) Capmat sealed and nonsealed microplates. The results clearly illustrate that vapor transition to adjoining wells causes false-positive results of bioassays performed in nonsealed microtiter plates. The microplate layout and a duration of the assay were demonstrated as the key aspects defining level of the results affection by the vapors of volatile agents. Additionally, we reported biological activities and chemical composition of essential oils from A. elegans seeds and X. verdugonianus leaves, which were, according to our best knowledge, analyzed for the first time. Considering our findings, certain modifications of conventional microplate-based assays are necessary (e.g., using EVA Capmat as vapor barrier) to obtain reliable results when biological properties of volatile agents are evaluated.

(PAI-1) The study comprised 40 patients and the objective of the study was to investigate the level of the mentioned parameters in two groups of patients-the group of polycytemic patients without cardiovascular diseases (PV) and the group of polycitemic patients with cardiovascular pathology associated (PV+CVD). The levels of the studied parameters were found significantly modified in the PV group (p[0.05); for the PV+CVD group the level of vWF was higher (p[0.001), but the levels of the other parameters, didnt show a significant statistic difference compared with the first group (p]0.05). In accordance with the presented results, the conclusions of our study was that in PV the risk of thrombotic accidents is related by the increase of the vWF level, as the vascular endothelium plays a key role in this pathology.

Abstract:
This article presents analysis of current data highlighted the problem of pathogenic mechanism of the most common spondyloarthritides (SpA) and focused on the pivotal role of interleukin‑17 in immune inflammation realization. Contribution of IL‑17 in mechanism of SpA particularly in different organ damage, in perpetuation of chronic inflammation and in structural progression is discussed. The clinical and experimental evidence of close relationship between IL‑17A levels, on one hand, and disease activity, high tempo of joint and bone affection as well as SpA extra-articular manifestations, on the other, are presented. Contribution of cell-mediated immune response including activated IL‑17A-producing cells to the pathogenesis of different SpA phenotypes is shown. Great attention is paid to the clinical effects of IL‑17A inhibition in Sp A. The results of clinical trials of novel IL‑17A inhibitor netakimab in the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis are presented. These data have demonstrated high efficacy and safety of tried preparation used in the regimen 120 mg per 2 weeks. On the basis of performed analysis the key role of IL‑17 in SpA pathogenesis is confirmed and expediency of SpA target therapy with novel IL‑17A inhibitor netakimab is justified.

Abstract:
Introduction. Castleman's disease (CD) or angiofolicullar lymph node hyperplasia is a rare pathologic process characterized by non-neoplastic reactive proliferation of lymphoid tissue. Mimicking clinical and laboratory signs of infection, it could be a great diagnostic problem for an infectologist. Case report. We report a case of a 39-year old man who was initially clinically suspected to have an infectious central nervous system (CNS) affection, having most similar appearance to neurotuberculosis. Malignancy with bone metastases and lymphoma were also among many possible diagnoses. The patient was later histologically confirmed to have Castleman's disease, analyzing the enlarged inguinal lymph node, which was the key point in rejecting the suspicion of malignancy and tuberculosis. By further analyses, the patient was diagnosed to have mixed connective tissue disorder (MCTD). Vasculitis of mesencephalon and thalamus was detected by magnetic resonance imaging. Conclusion. CD with CNS involvement is very rare as well as CD with MCTD association, making this case even more unique. This case report underlines the importance of definitive histological diagnosis in patients with lymphadenopathia associated with systemic involvement and the need of additional immunological and radiological examinations, as well.

Abstract:
AbstractThe study abroad homestay enjoys a widespread reputation as a key context for language learning. However, a homestay advantage has been difficult to prove in large-scale quantitative studies. Few qualitative studies examine the long-term developmental processes that can take place in homestays at the micro-ethnographic level. This paper focuses on how one participant, John, gradually developed awareness of the role of compliments and ability to use them for various purposes. Drawing on Vygotskian sociocultural theory, this study analyzes qualitative changes in John’s use of compliments from informal interaction in two homestays across a year. Over time, John learned to use compliments for an array of purposes: expressing appreciation for food, maintaining his hosts’ positive face, developing cordial relationships, and defusing potential conflict. Development in John’s case is evident as he internalized this speech act that he once grappled with, and used it to mediate the behavior of the others when confronted with interactionally and emotionally challenging situations. This process led to John’s ability to participate appropriately as a guest at the Chinese homestay dinner table and to appreciate the subtleties of interpersonal communication that includes unstated expressions of affection.
