Abstract:
While globalization, internationalization, and marketing in higher education were intensifying with an inexorable veracity, little was known about the strength of factors and the dynamics by which those factors that affect international students’ mobility operated. Previous studies used different and overlapping theoretical models, and findings were inconsistent and, in some cases, contradictory. The objective of the present study was to investigate what influenced international students’ choices to study at a comprehensive college in southern California, as well as, explore and propose a new combined conceptual model that could explain international students’ cross-national mobility. A two-phase explanatory sequential mixed methods design was employed. The first phase was quantitative, where data on 52 observed variables was collected from 618 international students. Findings suggested that international students were motivated to leave their home countries most strongly by their desires for personal fulfillment. It was also found that the quality of the United States education, as well as, the college reputation of quality, were the most important variables that affected students’ destination choices. Findings from Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) advanced a four-factor solution that consisted of Quality, Affordability, Access and Peace. Comparisons between population groups within the sample using Multivariate Analysis of Variance found that consideration of Access was more important to non-degree students. Conversely, Peace was more important to undergraduate and graduate students. Moreover, Peace was more important for Middle Eastern students, while Affordability and Access were more important for Asian students. Finally, Quality was more important to male international students. The quantitative phase of the study was followed by a qualitative one that employed transcendental phenomenological procedures. In-depth interviews with 11 international students were conducted. Qualitative findings supported and explained quantitative ones. Furthermore, two additional common sources of influence emerged, Becoming Somebody and Moving from the Familiar to the Unfamiliar. These, together with the four-factor domains identified by EFA, helped conceptualize the international student mobility model proposed in this study.

Abstract:
Land use intensity and reactive nitrogen (N) enrichment from atmospheric deposition are recognised as major threats to upland ecosystem function. Despite recent reductions in emissions of nitrogen oxides and ammonia from combustion and agricultural activities, N deposition rates on upland habitats from pollution remain above accepted critical loads. Increases in N availability can result in N saturation and lead to a reduced capacity for N retention which may be exacerbated by a shift in nutrient limitation status, from N limitation to phosphorus (P) limitation, which can constrain vegetation biomass production. Phosphorus limitation however is potentially an important mechanism constraining biodiversity loss associated with increasing nutrient availability and may moderate soil microbial and decomposer activity, which positively influences soil carbon (C) storage potential. This thesis aimed to elucidate the effect of current drivers of environmental change on upland ecosystem processes utilising a landscape scale survey and experimental manipulation of nutrient availability. The results presented here include investigations into the interactive effects of livestock stocking rate and N deposition (Chapter 2), and the role of N and P availability in influencing upland ecosystem components and processes, including vegetation species composition, soil chemistry (Chapter 3), soil invertebrates, vegetation productivity and tissue chemistry (Chapter 4), and soil C flux (Chapter 5). It is hypothesised that increasing livestock grazing intensity and nutrient availability from N deposition, alter upland ecosystem processes resulting in C storage reductions in upland soil. The results demonstrate a combined pressure from livestock grazing and N deposition which act in concert to modify upland vegetation and soil invertebrates and chemistry. Significant influence of N and P availability on ecosystem processes in upland habitats was also shown. Vegetation species composition was modified by the addition of P, with significant increases in cryptogam coverage. Microbial activity was enlarged, which was evident as higher soil C flux. These effects resulted in soil C content loss through changes in vegetation species composition, resulting in reductions in the direct input of organic matter from reduced root structures, and faster C cycling from increased decomposer activity. It is concluded that the availability of P in upland habitats has strong controlling effects on ecosystem processes, which can reduce the ability of upland soil to retain C, and which continue to act in the long term due to the persistent nature of P in soil. Thus, the addition of P as a management tool to alleviate the effects of chronic N enrichment is not recommended. As a consequence, there is need for alternative approaches to upland land management which reduce the pressure from grazing livestock on sensitive upland habitats, particularly for habitats in exceedance of N deposition critical loads.

Taiwanese is proud of getting No.1 market share all over the world in semiconductor’s assembly and testing industry with its advanced manufacturing technology and excellent quality to be deeply implanted in global valuable chain. Since the specialization of Taiwanese semiconductor’s assembly and testing industry became more and more elaborate and professional, it could create more than 200 thousand employed population, make the outstanding contribution of growth of national GDP and become one of Taiwanese pillar industries. In the technology intensive industry, function of human resource can not be neglected. However, Taiwanese semiconductor’s assembly and testing industry was facing more and more problems of being headhunted by Chinese enterprises with high salaries, Taiwanese employee’s bonus to be given by money instead of stock, and transformation of human resources among different industries so that it was hard to find out new comers of the talented and to retain the current talented. Therefore, recognition and control of talent retention have become the key factors for Taiwanese semiconductor’s assembly and testing industry. Although suitable flow of the talent helps metabolism of an enterprise, long-term instability of engineers hindered the improvement of technology seriously because engineers of research and develop, integration of process, and process are key men to affect the development and building competitive advantage of the company. Consequently, adopting more aggressive and effective precaution to control completely the willing of engineers’ retention before they take the action of resignation to avoid the loss of the enterprise facing the quitting from engineers. This study analyzed the outcome of the questionnaire made for engineers with the method of DEMATEL and ANP after interviewing the top management of Taiwanese semiconductor’s assembly and testing industry with Delphi’s method to build suitable research structure for it. Afterwards, the result of research showed the key factors of engineers’ retention which are “enterprise’s image”, “salary and welfare”, ”working environment and atmosphere”, “supervisor’s leadership and management style”, “working load”, “working stability”, “working challenge and achievement”. Among them, the indexes needed to improve very much in the current stage are “working load”, “working stability”, “working challenge and achievement”, “enterprise’s image”. Causal schema showed that we could improve efficiently the above issue from “working load” or “working stability”. Since “working load” tended to be the reason to affect to others and “working stability” tended to be the result affected by others, it was quite reasonable to improve “working load” as a starting point. Furthermore, “working load” reflected high pressure of the staff in semiconductor industry from too much overtime and the project management all the way since so that it influenced engineers’ retention critically. My research proposed solutions of the improvement including check and plan of work, flexible working hours, and promotion of cooperation of the substitute. Although the company in this case study used to think that “salary and welfare” was the main factor to affect the engineers’ retention most, it was quite different from the above outcome of research. As a result, the company in this case study paid attention to the effect of “working load” which brought quite bright trend to future development of it’s enterprise.

In the last two decades, the banking environment in Taiwan changes greatly. It begins from the opening new banks applications in early 1991, the credit cooperatives set up to the Commercial Banks, then the accession to the WTO in 2002. Taiwan Government was continuing opening up local financial markets to a global scenario, they had set up legislations for financial holding companies, and international banks therefore had a large-scale investment to Taiwan financial market, making this market saturated and also a highly competitive environment. In an unprecedented competitive environment now in Taiwan, how to maintain long-term advantages in attracting new customers as well as having a stable long-term relationship with old customer through MGM (Member Get Member) could be a vital issue. This study mainly focus on the banking industry, through questionnaire survey, expert interviews and literature review, The advantages of competitions of the banking industry are defined as in three dimensions: "Brand", "Service", and "Interest Rate and Fee". Through consumer's point of view, AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) is used to explore the key factor of customer choosing a bank. The results of this study suggest the banking industry to enhance staff education and training, serve their customers, ensure transaction security and confidentiality and keep commitment to customers, meanwhile, participate and fund more charity and cultural activities, and establish good image of bank. It turns out that the years of accumulation of good corporate brand image, and implement more effective and long-term business operations strategy rather than price competition, gains more attractions to customers, as well as increase customer satisfaction, which improving the customers loyalty to the bank and attract potential customers.

Throughout history, the diffusion of innovation theory has taught us that is typically takes much longer for proven concepts or programs to become part of practice. It wasn’t until 1975 that the British merchant navy introduced citrus fruits into the diets of their sailors aboard even though citrus juice was proven effective against scurvy in 1601. History continues to repeat itself and knowledge-practice gaps continue to persist in rural sociology, public health and even social media. So where does the diffusion process begin to diminish among adopters? In this paper, the author will analyze how adoption decisions are influenced by the characteristics of innovations, behaviors of adopters and the nature or extent of interpersonal and mass media factors. The decisions of adopters and change agents will help determine how the knowledge-practice gap is formed with regards to the role of settings and organizations. The big takeaway from this research is the high importance of considering the environmental context or setting when targeting potential adopters of a new innovation.

“Human resources” is one of the keys to success for an enterprise to stand out in the fierce competition in addition to the operator’s strategy and leadership skills. Although it is important to seek and recruit appropriate talents, it also requires considerable cost and time to train employees into useful talents that bring benefits. Therefore, rather than only thinking about how to find good talents, enterprises should spend more time thinking about how to retain internal staff and maintain the stability of the operation. There are many reasons behind the staff’s consideration of whether or not to retain in office. If enterprises can grasp the key factors, they can put forward more effective ways to solve the problems, helping to not only increase the competitiveness of enterprises, but also bring greater benefits to the enterprises. Owing to the high quality of Taiwan’s talents, the phenomenon of international headhunting is common and even severe in Taiwan, which further causes the science and technology industry to stuck in the dilemma of brain drain. Instead of blaming the downturn of the overall environment, enterprises must ponder over the practical countermeasures that they can use to retain talents. In past relevant studies, many researchers have already put forward different research results and findings with regard to the “retention” factors. In these numerous studies and documents, this study finds that the relationships among the factors affecting employee retention are very intricate and even mutually affect each other. On this account, finding out the factors of core concepts has become the motivation and purpose of this study. After collecting and organizing relevant literature, this study concludes eight key factors: “organizational culture,” “work engagement,” “organizational commitment,” “leadership style,” “workplace friendship,” “job satisfaction,” “personal-organizational fit (P-O fit),” and “perceived organizational support.” To clarify the complex causal relationship among these key factors, this study adopts Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) to understand the causal relationships and mutual influence among these retention factors. A total of 16 respondents were invited to complete the questionnaire, all of them were from a domestic vehicle design company and half have been working in the company for more than seven years. All respondents were asked to fill out the questionnaire at the same time and at the same place, assessing the mutual influence of the eight key factors in the questionnaire. The results show that the four factors of “work engagement,” “organizational commitment,” “job satisfaction” and “personal-organizational fit” are more like the result type that would be influenced by other factors. Among them, “work engagement” is the most core factor of employee retention that is influenced by all other factors. Moreover, the four factors of “organizational culture,” “leadership style,” “workplace friendship” and “perceived organizational support” are the cause type that would affect other key factors. According to the results of the study, it is suggested that enterprises must have better ways to engage their employees in work more if they want to retain talents. If enterprises wish to improve the employees’ level of work engagement, they have to start with both internal and external factors. The internal factors include improving employees’ organizational commitment, work satisfaction, and personal-organizational fit,” while the external factors include the shaping of corporate organizational culture, good leadership style of supervisors, workplace friendship between employees, and the strong organizational support for employees. In particular, the leadership style of supervisors will create the overall atmosphere within the organization, which will not only affect the inner feelings of employees but also their outer performance consequently.

Abstract:
South Africa has the wealthiest mining jurisdiction in the world with mineral resources valued at $2.5 trillion. Despite these assets, the level of value added mineral beneficiation undertaken in South Africa is low, with activities in the mining industry dominated by primary production and exports of raw or partially processed minerals. This study undertook to determine, evaluate and analyse the constraints to mineral beneficiation and downstream operation in South Africa. The study also considered the key drivers of mineral beneficiation. Downstream mineral beneficiation is defined as the transformation of a mineral or a combination of minerals to a higher value product which can either be consumed locally or exported to international markets. Primary data was collected by a combination of quantitative and qualitative method using a questionnaire. The questionnaire was purposefully distributed to stakeholders considered to have expert knowledge in the mining and manufacturing sectors. Data was tested for reliability and validity before it was analysed and specific constructs were developed from the questionnaire. The study found that mining industry will continue to play a vital role in the economy of the country. The level of mineral beneficiation was found to be dismally low considering the country’s mineral endowment and this resulted in the country missing out on the opportunity to earn more from exports of finished products, create employment, and address the problems of inequality and poverty. Amongst the factors found to constrain beneficiation were the country’s labour laws, lack of adequate skills, corruption, unstable labour force, research and development, the lack of entrepreneurship activity, inadequate infrastructure, and energy problems. In addition the study provided practical recommendations to help policy makers make informed decisions that will support the beneficiation programme.

Taiwan since the beginning of telecom liberalization, mobile communication and Internet technology have developed rapidly. Mobile phones are no longer just a simple call function. The function of smart phones has replaced many computer and camera functions, making the popularity of smart mobile phones grow to about 72.2% by May 2018. Mobile communication because of the compression and flattening of the industry, the profit is getting thinner and thinner, which has made the competition increasingly fierce. All kinds of offers and services have been introduced to retain the original customers and turn other potential customers into their new customers. With the cancellation of purchase subsidies by telecom operators and the polarization of prices, more and more people expect to extend the use of mobile phones through after-sales maintenance. Senao International has the nation''s largest communication service system and more than 100 maintenance engineers to provide after-sales service for communication products. It is an indicator enterprise of Taiwan''s communication service industry. In practice, the individual performance of the engineer will directly affect the achievement of the company''s performance and goals, and the satisfaction of the engineer''s work will not only affect the individual performance, but also affect the organizational performance and consumer satisfaction with the maintenance. Therefore, to understand the key factors affecting the job satisfaction of mobile phone maintenance engineers, and adjust the operation or improvement accordingly, in order to have the opportunity to improve the service quality, and then recognize the professional brand image of Senao International, enhance its loyalty, and ultimately bring benefits to the company. This study constructs a research framework for job satisfaction through the Delphi method,Using the DEMATEL and the ANP method,Analyze the results of the questionnaire survey of the mobile phone maintenance engineer。The results of the study show that mobile maintenance engineers believe that key criteria affect job satisfaction Including 「job type」、「salary income」、「work pressure」、「operating hours」、「work efficiency」、「employee benefits」、「promotion or public praise」、「work-life balance」、「working ability」、「work quality」、「organizational support」。The external results also show that the seven criteria including「work pressure」、「operating hours」」、「salary income」、「employee benefits」、「promotion or public praise」、「work-life balance」、「organizational support」are in great need of improvement. Key criteria factors,It is the key criterion that Senao International should pay special attention to when thinking about how to improve job satisfaction. The causal map shows that “salary income” can be used as a source of improvement for other key factors. It is reasonable to start to improve the "salary income". This is because in the case of experienced maintenance personnel training is difficult and the training cost is high, how to master the key factors and create a better working environment can meet the needs of employees. The departure of personnel has prevented the company from happening, so that the company has excellent talents and maintains a competitive advantage. Abstract Real estate prices represent both a long-running social issue for the people of Taiwan,as well as one of the key factors affecting economic development. Throughout the process of bolstering or suppressing prices, how to find an effective way to get housing prices back on track has formed one of the major policy points of the government over the past few years. Protest activities such as “Snails Without Shells” and Social Housing Advocacy Consortium movements along with the overnight sit-in at The Palace high-end housing development show how controversial and important a topic the right to adequate housing in Taiwan has become. This study analyzes the social impact of implemented government policies to suppress housing prices, as well as explores factors that may have affected those prices. The aim is to extract impactful research results from in-depth interviews and the collection of expert opinions on the issue. The results of this study found that numerous factors influencing housing prices in Greater Kaohsiung include: the Central Bank’s efforts to combat real estate policy, luxury tax, the Real Value Registry Scheme, mortgage subsidy policy, the Urban Renewal Act and the global economic downturn, convenience of transport, convenience of living in residential areas, employment opportunities, star school districts, public safety, environmental protection issues, disaster prevention requirements, increased urban population, investors and real estate professionals driving up prices, an increase in the quality of living, construction costs, high ratio of public utilities, the increase in the number of small families and well-to-do singles, young people’s confidence in housing prices, a large gap between urban and rural employment opportunities, and student loan pressures. Providing the government with a collection of expert opinions allows for a stronger consensus base on which to combat investor speculation, improve short-term arbitrage housing transaction costs, increase rental subsidies, promote social housing construction in suburban areas, strengthen real estate loan risk control and support for quantitative easing monetary policy, and draft price suppression and subsidy policy. Through this consensus, perhaps it may be possible to find a new solution for housing prices. Keywords: Housing Prices、Key Factors Affecting

The blossom of economic growth in Taiwan associated with the continuous construction of highway infrastructures for convenient movements of people and freights has inevitably brought a rapid growth of private vehicles over the past decades. In 1990, for instance, there were only 2.3 million cars and 7.1 million motorcycles registered; in 2007, the numbers of registered cars and motorcycles have increased to 6.7 millions and 14.0 millions, respectively, which were almost three times and double of the 1990 figures. The trend toward greater use of private vehicles has not only created ubiquitous congestion on the urban roads and intercity highways, but also resulted in excessive emissions that have broken the ecological balance. In metropolitan areas, the poor air quality has been mainly resulted from the mobile emissions of these vehicles. Thus, the Environment Protection Authorities at the central and local levels have endeavored to vehicle inspection and maintenance programs (I/M) and other control initiatives aiming to effectively restrain the air pollution from these mobile polluting sources. Many studies even attempted to identify the high-polluting vehicles based on the I/M database. However, only vehicle-related factors (i.e., direct factors) such as vehicle age, engine size, type of fuels, automatic/manual, brand, number of cylinders, catalytic converter, and gas mileage were recorded in the database. Other indirect factors such as drivers’ demographics, usage of vehicles, type of regions may also cause these vehicles high-polluting. To propose effective control strategies, a clear understanding of who, where and why these high-emitters are still in use is imperative. The objectives of this paper are twofold: (1) to identify the key direct factors significantly affecting the emissions of hydrocarbon (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) of cars and motorcycles, according to the I/M database; (2) to further identify the key indirect factors making these vehicles so high-polluting. The direct factors significantly affecting the emissions of HC and CO can be identified by simultaneously regressing HC and CO, respectively, on the characteristics of car and motorcycle. It is found that the key direct factors significantly affecting car emissions are age, engine size, number of cylinders, weight, mileage traveled, and brand. In contrast, the key direct factors for motorcycle emissions are age, engine size, mileage traveled, 2-stroke/4-stroke, and brand. The profiles of some high-polluting vehicles are clearly identified, accordingly. Furthermore, this study also conducted a nationwide post-mail questionnaire survey on some 90 thousand car and motorcycle owners, with 5981 valid samples returned. The I/M dataset and the returned questionnaire dataset are matched via the vehicle license-plate number so as to scrutinize who, where, and why the identified high-emitters are still in use. Structural equations modeling (SEM) was then employed to test the hypothesized cause-effect relationships among five constructs: driver demographics, vehicle usage, regions, vehicle characteristics, and emissions. The results show that the constructs of driver demographics and regions have significant effects on the vehicle characteristics. The construct of vehicle characteristics has then significant influence on the construct of vehicle usage. Moreover, the direct factors causing the high emissions levels of HC and CO are the two constructs: vehicle usage and vehicle characteristics. In terms of total effect to the construct of emissions, the construct of vehicle characteristics has the highest total effect of -0.76 for both cars and motorcycles, followed by the construct of driver demographics with total effect of 0.24 for cars and 0.08 for motorcycles. Based on the direct/indirect factors found as well as their relationships identified, some relevant emission control strategies are proposed and discussed.

Low patronage rate and improper service types of public transportation in rural area need to be improved urgently. Undoubtedly, without clearly knowing the mode choice behaviours and preferences of local residents, it is impossible to propose effective improvement strategies of public transportation. Meanwhile, traditional mode choice models overemphasize the effect of quantitative variables and ignore that of qualitative ones. Based on this, this study focuses on the mode choice behaviours of Sansia and Yingge districts, which can be considered as the relatively rural area of Taipei Metropolitan by incorporating commonly adopted quantitative variables as well as latent variables of safety, comfort, reliability and convenience, which are estimated by confirmative factor analysis. Estimation results show that the explanatory capability of the model can be enhanced by the introduction of latent variables. In addition, the effects of explicit variables of bus fare, walking distance, waiting time, in-vehicle time, and number of ride sharing persons are significantly tested. Corresponding improvement strategies for local public transportation are then proposed accordingly.

With the ageing trend, it is important and necessary for assistive technology to intervene in the care of disabled people. With the advancement of science and technology, mobility assistive devices are increasingly diversified and the purchasing process is becoming more complicated. However, most domestic research is conducted on the status of users and satisfaction of assistive devices. There has been very little research on consumer behavior of mobility assistive devices. For the mobility assistive devices market, how to provide consumers with products that they are willing to purchase and meet their needs, as well as the selection factors and preferences of consumers for the purchase of mobility assistive devices, are important topics for the future mobility assistive devices market. Therefore, this study is based on the EKB consumer decision-making model, and based on the characteristics of mobility assistive devices and the clinical status of use of mobility assistive devices, a preliminary framework for this study was established through the Modified delphi method (MDM). A group of experts from a number of relevant experts have conducted multiple rounds of expert questionnaires to establish the importance and consistency of the criteria for the purchase decision factors to be constructed in this study. It includes four major aspects such as “reference group opinions”, “product attributes”, “place” and “post-purchase services”, as well as 15 criteria such as “expert opinions” and “member group opinions”. Based on this result, the hierarchical structure of the Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was established, and the AHP Consumer Questionnaire was compiled to discuss the key factors affecting its purchase decision for the mobility assistive device consumer. The results were shown the four major aspects have the highest weighted value of “post-purchase services” followed by “product attributes”, followed by “reference groups opinions”, and the lowest weighted values are “place”. Among the fifteen criteria, “expert opinions” was the most important and was the most critical factor in the purchase decision-making for mobility assistive devices, followed by “facilitating the application for a subsidy process” and the third was “post-purchase service”. The “brand” was the lowest weighted factors for all the analysis. The results of the criteria for purchase decision-making factors and the key factors for purchase decision-making for the mobility assistive device by this study can provide reference for the development of relevant strategies supported by the industrial, governmental and academia community for mobility assistive devices.

The biotechnology is the global trend for healthcare industrial innovation. In Taiwan, the government has select Chinese herb manufacturing industry as the primary target for biotech development. Nevertheless, the competition among Taiwanese Chinese herb manufacturers is intense. In order to sustain development in the fierce environment of intense competitions, the managers’ strategy on the control of key chain value becomes an important factor for the Chinese herb manufacturers. This research is based on the Poter’s Business Value Chain Model, Merck Value Chain and the 7S Framework with article references and the study of the characteristic of Chinese herb manufacturing industry. It summarizes eight elements and nineteen influential indexes that contribute to the hierarchy of the “Key Value of Chinese Manufacturing Industry”. A poll based on AHP technique was targeted on 45 Chinese herb manufacturers with 27 copies recovered (recover rate: 60%). The result is further verified using Expert Choice System. The result of the research suggests that promotion and market activities represent the most influential factors to the achievement of Chinese herb manufacturers, followed by scientific development and service activities. The conclusion indicates that the strategies of the traditional Chinese herb manufacturers need to covert to customer-oriented strategy abandoning the conventional product-oriented strategy, in combination with the research and developing management to maintain high achievement value. The research concludes that the eight valuable key elements of Taiwanese manufacturing industry are: brand creation, value addition, client promotion, intellectual properties, technical upgrade, constituent structure, management system and integrated development.

The function of dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) is to catalyze the reduction of dihydrofolate (DHF) to tetrahydrofolic acid (THF) with NADPH as a coenzyme. The catalytic product THF is essential for amino acid catabolism and DHFR is the only enzyme in cells that synthesizes THF. Therefore, DHFR has been recognized as a target for anticancer drugs such as methotrexate (MTX) and the antibacterial agent trimethoprim (TMP). Because of its pharmacological importance, dihydrofolate reductase has been studied extensively. Numerous literatures point out that DHFR mutants have the potential to alter molecular dynamics, ligand binding capacity, and enzymatic activity. We designed point mutations to replace specific amino acids, generated mutant M42F and T113V DHFR and further followed the fluorescence quenching and Förster resonance energy transfer to determine the dissociation constants (KD) of different enzyme-ligand complexes. In the wild DHFR, the enzyme and ligand dissociation constants (KD) were NADPH (0.89 μM), DHF (4.1 μM), THF (12.5 μM), and the inhibitor MTX (0.028 μM), respectively. While compared with previous studies, the wild-type DHFR in our studies was designed with additional 6 repeats of histidine-tag and 19 amino acid biotin binding site sequences at the N-terminus of the protein, resulting in differences in dissociation constants for different ligands. In M42F mutant, the enzyme and ligand dissociation constants (KD) were NADPH (33.9 μM), DHF (63.3 μM), THF (79.8 μM), and the inhibitor MTX (0.34 μM), respectively. We concluded that the stereo-hindrance Phe residue squeezes and affects the rotation and movement of helix αC, resulting in weaken the enzyme-ligand affinity. In T113V mutant, the enzyme and ligand dissociation constants (KD) were NADPH (20.8 μM), DHF (65.0 μM), THF (93.3 μM), and the inhibitor MTX (0.37 μM), respectively. Since the Val and Thr residues are similar in size, so this mutation does not create significant space disturbance. However, Val-113 lacks the oxygen atom in the residue. We concluded that it directly destroys the hydrogen bonding network with Asp-27 and water molecule 405, which decreases the enzyme-ligand affinity.

Following the change of retail industry environment, consumers increase demands for old-fashioned shops that weed the traditional industry out. In the trend of strong competition, retailers have been set up exclusive brand personality. Own brand can be the best representative of the brand personality that can express the thoughts and ideas of a company. Retailer always operated its own brand by low price. The strategy met the consumer demand to search cheaper products. Carrefour could be a major representative of own brand company. In addition to the price advantage, the other brands, quality and store image have importance on operation. This study is from the view of consumers to explore whether store image and brand awareness have influences on attitude of own brand. Besides, we explore whether brand involvement, own brand awareness and attitude have influences on own brand loyalty. In this study, the empirical samples were consumers in Taipei and Taoyuan areas that have bought, used or known to Carrefour's own brand. By questionnaire survey, the total valid number of samples is 250. We apply structural equation modeling analysis method to test our hypothesis. The empirical results reveal: (1) store image has positive and significant impact on own-brand attitude; (2) own brand loyalty has a positive attitude and own a significant relationship; own brand awareness and brand loyalty has a positive and significant relationship. Through this research, we can know consumers using many external cues to quickly understand own brand identity and position. This study suggests that the industrial company must strengthen its own brand awareness that can improve the profit contribution and build a loyal customer group.

Key Factors Affecting Airline merger, the case study of Delta and Northwest Abstract Airline industry worldwide has experienced tremendous changes and reforms in the past decade. With a series of economic downturns, regional unrest, epidemic widespread and soaring fuel price, the impact on travel intention from the public and cost burden have driven airlines on finding ways to sustain its business and still remain competitive. This paper took airlines as the object of study, while surveys were conducted by airline management from different carriers in order to understand the factors affecting airlines acquisitions and mergers. When conducting the analysis of key factors affecting airlines mergers, this paper was divided into two phases. In phase one, four dimensions and criteria swaying airline merger were established, while importance criteria were shifted out and the research structure verified by means of expert survey. In phase two, Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process was utilized to attain the weights from each dimension and criteria. The study shows synergy is the most important factor affecting airline merger among four dimensions, followed by cost, competition and government regulation respectively. In addition, according to overall weight for eleven separate criteria, alternative infrastructure was considered the most important criterion among eleven criteria, while growing environmental pressure was the last one. While this paper might not take into account all criteria, hopefully this study can offer insight into implication of future airline mergers. In response to global warming, the government advocates public using public transportation for energy conservation and carbon reduction. Roadway Transportation is the main source of air pollution. Particularly, fuel consumption rate of bus is the second of all vehicles of roadway transportation. It doesn’t be ignored the emissions and energy consumption of bus and key factors affecting the emission and energy consumption of bus with fewer concerns in the past. There, this is the subject on this paper. First, this paper summarizes the literature reviews to find the factors affecting the emission and energy consumption of vehicles. Second, for fully understanding these related issues and mining the factors by deeply interviewing experts and scholars in academic circles, bus industry and government agencies. Then select and classify the factors affecting the emission and energy consumption of bus with three dimensions: driver, vehicle and environment. Third, analyze and screening for key factors through Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) containing expert questionnaire. The results show that policy, driver characteristics, driver education and training, traffic flow characteristic, geometric design of road and design and function of vehicles are the critical factors. Forth, group factors and inspect their causal affecting path, then propose solutions of improvement for this topic based on social equity, financial sustainability, energy saving and policy of sustainability. Furthermore, establishing inspection and maintenance system, setting up standard of testing in accordance with industrial environment in Taiwan, implement completely inspection management, establish a specific agency to fulfill synchronizing maintenance and inspection and improving corporate health are measures on policy act. Develop driver education and training system is a measure on corporate management. The measures on design and function of vehicles include low-pollution vehicles promotion measures and innovation and improvement of vehicle technology. Priority of public transportation is the measure on traffic flow characteristic, geometric design of road. This paper proposes solutions of improvement according to critical affecting factors and accompanying measures to solve the problems of affecting the emissions and energy consumption of bus.

The main purpose of this study is to find the key factors affecting the performance of Industry-University Cooperation. The researcher extracted five basic research dimen-sions as the first hierarchy via literature review and expert interview, then subdivide them into ten factors as the second hierarchy. Through expert questionnaires based on Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), and the application of the software of Expert Choice, the weight of each crucial factor is determined. In addition, the relative importance of above extracted factors was further derived by applying AHP approach. The most important factor is equipment and technical in process yielding weight 0.438, the second factor is staff interactive yielding weight 0.188, the third factor is project management yielding weight 0.180, the fourth factor is financial support yielding weight 0.119 and the last is policies and regulations yielding weight 0.075. Furthermore, we also determine the relative weights of ten considered criteria corresponding to critical factors. The first two indicators are technical maturity in process (0.3188), and the program targets set (0.1072).

Abstract:
The concept of key characteristics deals with the particular moods which different tonalities are believed to provide to music. Discussions regarding their existence and the validity of the phenomena have always been controversial because of a lack of fundamental reasons and explanations for them. Nevertheless, references to key characteristics have appeared in various fields of study and over many centuries: the Greek doctrine of ethos, writings of Guido d’Arezzo, Jean-Philippe Rameau’s Traité de l’harmonie, scribbles in Beethoven’s sketches, and several passages in Hermann von Helmholtz’s On the Sensations of Tones. The attitudes and opinions towards key characteristics have varied in each period of its history. Among the ancient Greeks and Romans, the characteristics of modes were discussed among philosophers, namely, Plato, Aristotle, Lucianus and Cassiodorus. They were believed to affect moral development but were also associated with mysticism. In the Middle Ages and Renaissance, references to key characteristics can be found in the writings of numerous theorists, including Gioseffo Zarlino, Ramos de Pariea and Heinrich Glarean. The studies and discussions of key characteristics in those periods became so well explored as to result in the first appearance of a list of the characteristics of each mode. In Germany and France especially, the discussion of key characteristics reached its peak in the first half of the eighteenth century, when it was studied as a part of Rhetoric. Theorists and composers equally showed their interest in the elements each key could offer to music and how to use keys advantageously in order to enrich the musical experience of the listener. While key characteristics were studied commonly as a vital subject by composers in the eighteenth century and as a fundamental of musical education by many young musicians in the early nineteenth, this tradition had all but disappeared by the middle of the twentieth. The concept of key characteristics is no longer commonly taught in our musical institutions, and this desertion from such a traditionally significant discipline is ever puzzling and particularly interesting to me. In my thesis, I will focus on writings from the last half of the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth to determine the various paths taken in the study of key characteristics. I will investigate the writings and discussions of three scholarly groups—music theorists, composers and scientists—from late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and discuss how the survival of the study of key characteristics was influenced by aspects of the time: popular aspects and aims in the fields of music theory; cultural and social expectations in the validity of phenomena; pronouncements of composers (Arthur Bliss, Alexander Scriabin, Olivier Messiaen, Arnold Schoenberg and Vincent D’Indy) in their musical styles; the rise of a naturalistic view of physical reality as a field and changes it brought to music and societies. I will also include a comparative summary of the status of key characteristics in various periods.
