Abstract:
Women across the world migrate for a wide range of reasons. Some gravitate to urban centres in their own countries seeking safety, education, health care, and employment opportunities. Others travel across national boundaries seeking reprieve from the atrocities of war and extreme poverty. Migration within countries is on the rise, as people move in response to adverse conditions such as lack of resources, services and education, and employment opportunities. In addition they may want to escape from violence or natural disasters. This movement of people from rural to urban areas has resulted in an explosive growth of cities around the globe. This paper draws on a research case study undertaken with the Kewapi language group in Port Moresby and the Batri Villages of the Southern Highlands in Papua New Guinea. It seeks to highlight the perspectives of women traveling vast distances from their home communities in order to seek education and health care. It explores the implications for developing effective service user focused health care systems designed to meet the needs of mobile and vulnerable women. The study suggests that if women and their families from remote rural communities are encouraged and facilitated in participating in health promoting initiatives they can dramatically improve their life and health experiences and that of their community.

Abstract:
Introduction: Efforts to Maximize Kewang Laut in the Implementation of Sasi Laut and as an Effort to Improve Professionalism of Kewang Laut and Sasi Laut, are one of the factors where the community's dependence in this case is related to the protection of kewang in supervising and maintaining marine biota in the marine area of the indigenous peoples.Purposes of Devotion: The purpose of this service is to provide understanding to the community regarding Sasi Laut and Kewang Laut, To strengthen public understanding regarding efforts to maximize kewang Laut in the implementation of Sasi Laut, To socialize and provide understanding to the community about the efforts that can be done in preventing violations of the sea. marine law violation. Method of Devotion: In accordance with the problems and objectives of this service, the type of research used is empirical research, namely a legal research method that uses empirical facts taken from human behavior, both verbal behavior obtained from interviews and real behavior carried out through direct observation. The Problem Approach used is the Conceptual Approach, which is an approach in legal research that provides an analytical point of view of problem solving in legal research seen from the aspects of the legal concepts that lie behind it, or even can be seen from the values contained in the norm. Results of the Devotion: To create a customary law community that is good at utilizing its marine power, the role of kewang sea is needed in the implementation of sea sasi, so the right efforts to overcome the obstacles that hinder the process of optimizing kewang sea are: 1). increase a sense of love for Nature both sea and land. 2). Improving and Empowering Kewang Laut as a marine human resource. 3). Improving and Strengthening the role of kewang Laut. 4). Strengthening Security through Kewang Laut. Thus, the effort to maintain the role of the kewang Laut in its role and function is to be able to maintain and oversee marine biota or natural resources in the country which are the needs of indigenous peoples. For this reason, the customary institution which is the customary government must always be able to oversee every decision issued by the customary stakeholders.

Abstract:
This study explains how kewang, a traditional institution that deals with social affairs and natural resource management, maintains traditional ecological knowledge and practices in Maluku. This study focuses on two comparative villages (negeri): Haruku and South Buano. The study adopts a historically situated new institutionalism approach to analyzing the dynamic developments of kewang and how it affects community members in the context of conservation and natural resource management of the petuanan customary areas of the two negeri. By examining institutional change including history, ideology, organization and authority of kewang with other institutional forms such as soa, government, church, and NGOs the study shows the path-dependence of the two respective kewangs. In Haruku, the kewang has long stayed intact because the institution is still practiced as a cultural principle, maintaining itself through the tradition-based leadership succession mechanisms and by continuing to carry out its functions, as well as pursuing innovations within kewang education for future generations. In South Buano however, due to the long absence of a kewang, efforts at revival show the strong influence of rational choice thinking principles, dependent on the formal authority of the negeri government. The study concludes that historical junctures shape the role and authority of kewangs in performing natural resource functions, and which can have longnstanding generational impacts on conservation possibilities. Meanwhile, kewang also rely on both its continued endogenous acceptance among local community members, and depend on its relations with other key institutions in society.

Abstract:
Population growth which is not supported with the availability of natural resources causes gaps or limitations in meeting daily needs through natural resources. As a result, rural communities need certain rules or norms used as behavioral guidelines in utilizing the natural resources. One of them is through the existence of kewang customary institution. However, as the community develops, its effectiveness is experiencing a decline. This study examines the role of kewang customary institution as a biosecurity strategy for community livelihood asset in Negeri Booi, Saparua Island, Central Maluku Regency. This study was done in a qualitative manner with a case study method. The key informants involved included members of the kewang, head (raja) of Negeri Booi, farmers and customary leaders. In-depth interviews, observation and focus group discussion (FGD) were used to collect the data. The results showed that the kewang of Negeri Booi played an active role in securing the livelihood asset while at the same time protecting Negeri Booi's territory. However, the inclusion of economic interventions left the kewang members vulnerable. They were faced with the choice to carry out their duties and functions as a local institution securing the livelihood asset or to violate the convention to meet their daily household needs. In general, the community in Negeri Booi still recognized the existence of kewang customary institution by respecting and carrying out every decision taken.

Abstract:
In 1998, the recently established Gay and Lesbian Archives of South Africa acquired about 600 photographs depicting a group of individuals assigned male at birth, who presented and expressed themselves according to conventions of femininity. The girls, as they called themselves, were classified as “Coloured” under apartheid and lived in District Six, Cape Town, when it was declared “Whites Only” in 1966, after which approximately 60,000 residents were forcibly removed as the area was almost completely bulldozed. This collection of photographs has become somewhat embedded in descriptions of the district as home to a way of life or culture, variously described as “gay” or “queer,” generally accepted if not celebrated by its wider community. Drawing on audio recordings featuring their collector, Kewpie, and remaining attentive to the differing and at times contradictory ways Kewpie presents herself, the girls, and District Six more broadly, this article proposes an alternative reading of the Kewpie Photographic Collection, as it is now known. Privileging the creative as opposed to the documentary function of photography and oral testimony, Ramsden-Karelse proposes that Kewpie uses both to make and remake the world around her, as part of what the author understands to be a larger collaborative project.

Abstract:
Introduction: Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. Propolis, a polyphenol-rich resinous product processed by honeybees from a variety of plant sources, has a set of biological activities. We investigated the neuroprotective effect of Iranian brown propolis (IBP) in a mouse model of permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). Methods: Experimentally, water extracts of propolis (WEPs) were obtained from Kerman (KeWEP) and Khorasan Razavi (KhWEP) provinces, Iran. The chemical characterization and total polyphenol content of WEPs were determined using the Folin–Ciocalteu assay and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Animals were divided into eight experimental groups including: sham, control, and three groups each of which KeWEP- and KhWEP-treated mice. The drugs were administered at doses of 30, 100 and 200 mg/kg, intraperitoneally (IP), during four different time points. Infarct volume and brain edema were measured at 48 h. Behavioral tests were evaluated at 4, 24 and 48-hour post stroke. Results: The total polyphenol content was 1100 and 1400 mg/L in KhWEP and KeWEP respectively. Compared to the control group, the doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg in both samples decreased infarct volume. Brain edema was also reduced in all treatment groups. The dose of 200 mg/kg in both samples and 100 mg/kg in the KeWEP-treated group significantly increased grasping ability. Sensory-motor function was improved in all groups, too. Conclusion: These results suggest that IBP may reduce ischemic brain injury by its neuroprotective effect on focal cerebral ischemia.

Abstract:
To estimate the components of variance of a tissue culture experiment, hypocotyl sections of tomato cultivars (C) `Healani,' `Kewalo' and `Anahu' were cultured on modified Murashige and Skoog medium with 10 uM IAA and 10 uM BAP. Three explants were placed in each of 45 flasks per cultivar. This procedure was repeated three times (R) on different dates. Mean values of the number of shoots per explant were 7.0. 8.2 and 9.2 for `Healani', `Kewalo', and `Anahu', respectively. The data were transformed by adding 0.5 and then taking the square root of the sum. Components of variance of the transformed data were σ2 = 0.01, σC2 = -0.02, σRC2 = 0.09, σFC2 = 0.22 and σE2 = 1.68 (error term). The components of variance were used to determine the theoretical variance of the cultivar (treatment) mean. Results indicated that the most efficient method of reducing the error is by increasing the number of explants per flask. Stein's two-stage sample equation determined the number of explants required for a 95% confidence level to be 1613, 807 and 380 to detect differences of 5% 7% and 10%. respectively, of the overall transformed mean.

Abstract:
Animals have provided humans with everything from meat to eggs to pleasure. Thus, animals, including chameleons, must be rescued from extinction. The chameleon's uniqueness makes it an intriguing subject for artistic creation. The purpose of this artwork is to visualize the concept of personal expression through miniprint works using Sato Kewan (variety of animals) object, specifically the chameleon. The creation of this printmaking work is part of artistic research, more specifically research into art practice, which is conducted using plywood as a medium, an abstract expressionism style, and the concept of art as personal expression. The stages of creation include experimentation, contemplation, and formation. A chameleon miniprint reflecting personal expression is created as a result of the creation process. Hence, visualization of chameleon miniprints using advanced printing techniques can result in abstract expressionism-inspired printmaking works. The creation, which incorporates traditional and contemporary art elements, is expected to be competitive nationally and internationally.

Abstract:
This study aims to determine the role of local Sasi institutions in forest management activities, which can be used in formulating forms of forest management based on regional characteristics in realizing sustainable forest management and improving community welfare. Data collection is done by observing all community activities both in the forest and in residential areas. Interviews are conducted with all stakeholders to obtain systematic and intensive data and information including village government, managers (kewang), youth and student leaders, academics, NGOs and documentation studies in the form of library studies and photographs relating to research. The results of the study show that sasi is a form of temporary prohibition on the community to refrain from exploiting natural resources that are on land that are privately owned (non-communal) or collectively (communal rights) and at sea owned by the management agency (Kewang). Sasi law for teresterial land (forest) has management stages, namely planning, implementation, supervision, yield management, and marketing. Government policies in the forestry sector such as the forestry law number 41 of 1999 year concerning forestry, and the decision of the minister of forestry number 31 of 2001 year concerning social law are seen to be in line with the sasi law. In its development, sasi as a model of local wisdom in Moluccas Province faced obstacles in its implementation, both those who came from outside and inside the community, such as the proportion of forest area with the number of members of the community, conflicts between customary law and national law, and government policies in the form of HPH which is a threat to the territory of the country.

Abstract:
Sweet potato (Ipomea batatas (L.) Lam) is an important root crop grown in the world. It provides carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, fibre and essential minerals. With limited varieties available, and the crop being undocumented thus far, sweet potato production in Bhutan is insignificant and has not gained scope in agricultural food systems. For nutrient and crop diversification, three improved varieties from Japan, and a local variety as a check were evaluated under three different agro-ecological zones to ascertain their performance in terms of yield and other yield attributes. The experiment was laid out using Randomized Complete Block Design with four treatments each with three replications. There was no significant difference in yields between the varieties. Nonetheless, it was observed that orange flesh variety (Bajo kewa ngam II) outyielded (13.8t/ac) all other experimented varieties across all experimental sites. The variety orange flesh (Bajo kewa ngam II) followed by Beni Azumi (Bajo kewa ngam I) and Gorojima were the most preferred variety based on their yield potential, pests and diseases tolerance, organoleptic test (taste, texture and colour) and yield attributes. All the three varieties showed good yield stability.

Abstract:
Immediately after finishing his Kurzgefaβtes etymologisches Wörterbuch des Altindischen (KEWA), M. Mayrhofer had the very commendable courage to start work on an Etymologisches Wörterbuch des Altindoarischen (EWA), of which the first 11 fascicles now (Autumn 1992) lie before us. It is not, as the author rightly insists,‘a new (and improved) edition’ of KEWA, but a renewed attempt in its own rights. It is an attempt to produce ‘an etymological dictionary of’ a big corpus language (i.e. of Sanskrit)’ in ‘a practicable and finishable form’, that is: an etymological dictionary such as could be brought to completion ‘by a single scholar within his life time’,—provided this scholar would have the industry and tenacious dedication of a Mayrhofer, we should like to add. Even in the close atmosphere of such a somewhat constraining qualification, Mayrhofer aims high: he thinks of –an etymological dictionary approaching the fulfilment of demands of an ideal order–. The differences between the former work and the one recently begun, already clearly recognizable, are many and conspicuous. The changes introduced are mostly—not always, as is only to be expected—distinct improvements. One of the most important changes is highly welcome: the conscientious- reference to the first occurrence of each word in Sanskrit literature. The attribute ‘kurzgefaβt’ does not appear in the title. Even the KEWA was not actually ‘conciseမ: it was so in comparison only with the planned Vergleichendes etymologisches Wörterbuch des Altindoarischen by W. Wüst

Abstract:
This article describes how seaweed farming is one of the primary livelihoods in the West Ceram Regency. This activity has been done by the local people and others since 2006. However, the competition over land use between the cultivators of the seaweed, groupers, and fishermen have caused declining seaweed production. Semi-structured interviews, in-depth interviews and participant observations were conducted with seaweed farmers, fishermen catch, grouper farmers, and the government (Marine and Fisheries Department) (n = 83) in three villages. An in-depth interview with seaweed farmers was performed to deepen the understanding of the working conditions and related problems. One way to resolve the seaweed farmers problem in Kotania Bay is by applying Molucass local wisdom, named sasi. Sasi is applied at the time of planting seaweed and called “Tutup Sasi” and called “Buka Sasi” at harvesting with Kewang control. Finally, the article concludes that the use of “sasi” can manage the competition and resolve conflict, ensure continued business, increase efficiency and provide equity resource management.

The paper deals with attribution on the meaning of an astral metaphor in Persian text related to the miniature, which occurs in the Album murakka (17th cent.) from the Carl Faberge fund, now in the collection of the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts, RAS. While analyzing on characteristics of planet Saturn (Kewan) in Zoroastrian Pahlavi compositions and variations of astral metaphor in Iranian national epos Shah-name, the author comes to conclusion, that calligraph Jafar used a name Keywan in his distich for pursuit of two tasks: 1) to condemn imitation of Keywans abode on top of heads (see ill. 1); 2) to convey his belief that only God is veritable creator of Keywan as all the Universe.

Abstract:

Abstract:
An experiment, on effect of tree-crop combinations and nitrogen levels on economic returns from Mucuna pruriens L. based Agroforestry Systems, was carried out during 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 in experimental farm of Department of Silviculture and Agroforestry, Dr. Y. S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan, Himachal Pradesh. M. pruriens was grown in association with Prunus persica (Peach), Grewia optiva, Morus alba and Setaria sphacelata. Three nitrogen doses applied to M. pruriens were 40, 80 and 120 kg/ha. The net returns were calculated on financial (farmer’s land) and economic (rented land) basis. Mucuna seeds accrued maximum net financial returns of Rs. 20436/ha and 20286/ha, grown in association with Grewia and Setaria and Peach and Setaria, respectively. Application of nitrogen level from 40, 80 to 120 kg per hectare increased the yield of seed and hence the net returns giving maximum at 120 kg N/ha. Peach and setaria under Peach + Setaria + M. pruriens system gave maximum net returns to the tune of Rs. 38328/ha, followed by Peach, Morus and Setaria (Peach + Morus + Setaria + M. pruriens) giving Rs. 37052/ha. Total net financial returns from all components were maximum (Rs. 58614/ha) from Peach + Setaria + M. pruriens followed by Peach + Morus + Setaria + M. pruriens amounting to Rs. 56889/ha. Sole crop accrued minimum net returns (Rs. 20286/ha). The benefit cost ratio (B:C ratio) was maximum (2.41) for Peach + Setaria + M. pruriens, followed by Morus + Setaria + M. pruriens, whereas, sole crop of Mucuna gave minimum B:C ratio of 1.77. Thus, the net returns from Agroforestry Systems were higher as compared to sole crop. The nitrogen application increased the yield and hence net returns from intercrop also had similar effect. Thus, fruit based systems gave higher returns per rupee investment as compared to fodder based systems on farmer’s own land as well as if the entrepreneur is practicing these systems on rented land.

Full text
Abstract:
That Sanskrit satyá (Avestan haiθiia) derives from sánt is by no means so certain as Georges-Jean Pinault has recently claimed, and as the standard etymological dictionary (both KEWA, III, and EWA, I) maintains. The picture has altered since (as noted already in KEWA) Elmar Seebold finally disposed of the existence of a Germanic *sun∂jaz, which had seemed to correspond in form as well as meaning with Sanskrit satyá ‘true’. Gothic sunja ‘truth’ (>*sun∂ī: Seebold, art. cit., 25, 36) offers no support for the notion of a -ya derivative from the participle. At the same time, Karl Hoffmann had sought to withdraw the support of Agni's epithet santya, by explaining it as ‘being together: (etwa) Mitbewohner‘ from a *sóm-tiyo which otherwise, as in Germanic (English soft), develops a sense ‘appropriate, agreeable: angenehm’. To this may now be added the consideration that Paul Thieme has thought (oral communication) to explain satyá, with IE *sem- ‘one, together‘ in mind, as ‘einig, übereinstimmend‘ from a *sm-tyó. The latter would show more primitive Ablaut and more literal meaning than *sóm-tiyo, but both words would thus be close relatives of samydk ‘together, properly’.

Abstract:
The fish of Thane Creek and Ulhas River Estuary are contaminated with mercury. The traditional fishing folks residing along these water sources consume large amounts of these fish for their sustenance, therefore, being vulnerable to mercury poisoning. A survey on the clinical signs and symptoms of mercury poisoning was carried out in Wehele, Alimgarh and Diwe-Kewni along Ulhas River Estuary and Vittawa and Airoli along Thane creek. Fortunately, no alarming signals of mercury poisoning could be detected in these populations. Genetic make-up and/or use of onion and garlic in the fish preparations could be the probable detoxifying factors in these populations. However, these populations being vulnerable to mercury poisoning, continuous monitoring is recommended in these areas. Abstract:
This study intends to examine the state of psychological well-being among the young unwed pregnant women who were placed in KEWAJA shelter home. Adolescence pregnancy is a social phenomenon and has impact on psychological health, socio-cultural and environmental challenges to individual and future communities. It could also contribute to the total burden of disability in the community. However, the result of the study showed the level of psychological well-being of the respondents was generally high. This finding has practical implications to extension agents and community development programs. Thus, a multi -pronged community driven programs are needed to reduce risk behavior among these young adults.
