Abstract:
Abstract Fear of falling (FOF) is prevalent among older adults. While the concept has been conceptually defined and factors associated with FOF has been extensively explored in nursing and other health sciences, the experience of this fear is often overlooked. The purpose of this study was to illuminate the phenomena of FOF using the rich descriptions elicited from four (Nf4) older adults. The meaning of these experiences was then interpreted in conjunction with the known and emergent FOF body of literature. Each participant was interviewed twice using videoconferencing as part of a larger study exploring the lived experience of being at risk for falling in the hospital. A total of eight interview transcripts were analyzed using van Manen’s interpretive phenomenological methodology. The philosophical underpinning of this study is the philosophy of caring in nursing outlined by Kari Martinsen. Three major interpretive themes emerged: Loss of Self, Part of my Existence, and Remaining Safe Within the Boundaries of Fear. These themes describe how FOF is the fear of being suspended in time and space and losing connection with oneself both physically and mentally during a fall. The fear becomes a part of one’s existence, ranging from worry to all-consuming panic, and the body becomes unpredictable. FOF means living within invisible boundaries of fear, where feelings of helplessness, uselessness, and isolation are common. Relationships with others can both temper and ignite the FOF, and caregivers must understand the meaning of this experience to improve support of older adults in managing this overwhelming experience.

Abstract:
AbstractAs resources available for agricultural research and development become increasingly scarce, the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) has taken steps to define a clear research agenda. This effort has taken the form of formal priority setting in various research programmes. Priority setting is a key step in the formulation of a research agenda because priority setting, almost by definition, increases the efficiency and relevance of our research programmes by adding valuable structure to our wide information base on agro-ecological and socio-economic conditions in the country, by focusing attention on client constraints and by specifying the potential impact of research on these constraints. The process of establishing clear and systematic priorities in our research programmes allows us to take a proactive rôle in soliciting government and donor support for areas identified as vital to agricultural development efforts. Perhaps most important, the priority setting processes developed at KARI have helped to broaden participation in formulating our research agenda by including a wide range of stakeholders and clientsfrom outside the Institute and in the process widened and deepened our constituency base.Within specific programmes, the priority setting process has comprised five interrelated and cumulative steps: (1) compiling the information base on relevant commodities and regions; (2) identifying programme research target zones and research themes; (3) eliciting the potential for technology generation and adoption; (4) estimating research-induced social benefits; and (5) establishing research priorities and medium-term resource allocation guidelines with programme stakeholders. All but a handful of our commodity research programmes, which include a number of livestock research programmes, have completed this five-step procedure. A similar process has been developed for regional and factor-based research programmes, which should have clear research priorities and resource allocation guidelines in 1998. Once all programmes have completed their respective priority setting activities, we will embark on an Institute-wide priority setting exercise that will pit programme against programme with a view to establishing a coherent set of priorities for the entire organization.

They perform 'anchati pattukal', hymns and 'kummi pattukal' along with the performance. These songs have not yet been recorded in our folk song tradition or literary history. This essay analyzes these songs descriptively and determines the folk identity expressed in it.

Abstract:
The article aims to defend Karl Löwith’s secularization thesis from the criticism made by Hans Blumenberg. Löwith’s thesis claims that modern philosophy of history is a secularized Christian eschatology. Blumenberg accuses Löwith’s thesis of substantialism. Following Sjoerd Griffioen, the article shows that this criticism fails. The article presents Blumenberg’s arguments that the idea of progress cannot be derived from eschatology. These arguments are refuted by the analysis of the work of Joachim of Fiore and providing a distinction between two kinds of progress. The article is written from the perspective of intellectual history, detaching from the dispute over the judgement of modernity.

Abstract:
Kalighat’s paintings originated in West Bengal, India in the 19th century, near Kalighat Kali Temple, in Calcutta, India, and and from being souvenir pieces taken by visitors to the Kali Temple, the paintings developed over a period of time as a distinct Indian form of painting and art. The Kalighat Paintings developed to depict a range of themes ranging from mythological characters to depictions of the social scene. The paintings served as a kind of mirror of the society in which they worked. Under the influence of an increasingly growing European society, they underwent a transformation. They were able to rapidly adapt the interests of then popular interest and reflect different contemporary themes., and to represent different contemporary themes. The charm of the Kalighat paintings lies in the fact that they captured the essence of everyday life and have inspired contemporary artists like the late Jamini Roy even to this day. Experts find the brushwork on these paintings to be precise, flawless, elegant and one of India’s smoothest art types.

Abstract:
Department of History and Theory of Literature. There are only few diaries in Lithuanian literature written by women during war times. From the old times it was usual that the main attention is paid to the literature written by men, though women’s experience in war was revealed by such writers as Gabrielė Petkevičaitė-Bitė, Ana Frank, Marta Hillers, Julija Maceinė. The features of the genre reveal that diary is very similar to the autobiography, however in the diary are fixed the events of the previous day, and the writer is not intended to look into the past. Diary is the dated sketchbook, which fixates the memories of a day, week or other period of time, and they reveal the narrator’s feelings, emotions, and experience. In the war time diaries the link of history and documentation is very important, as it is full of historical testimony, descriptions of what happened, and the secondary attention is paid to the personal experience. The object of the present research is the story-telling women such as Gabrielė Petkevičaitė-Bitė, Julija Maceinienė, Marta Hillers and Ana Frank in war time diaries. The scientists that discussed the diary as a genre are Daujotytė, Kubilius, Glinskis. The aim of this research is to analyze woman’s and addressee’s relation, women’s experience during war, war “victim’s” image and relation with them in Ana Frank, Marta Hiller, Julija Maceinienė and Gabrielė Petkevičaitė-Bitė diaries by using semantic-structural analysis. According to Phillipe Lejeune... [to full text]

Abstract:
Christ for us describes the essence of the reconciling act initiated and brought to fruition by the Triune God towards God's errant creation. The themes of representation and substitution have figured prominently in attempts to articulate the nature of this divine act of reconciliation in Christ. The intent of this study is not to present a plethora of viewpoints on these themes, arriving at a general survey of the subject, but rather to focus on the theologies of three contemporary theologians---Dorothee Sole, John Macquarrie and Karl Barth---drawing from this select purview a portrait of key issues arising from these themes and the relative adequacy of their particular attempts to address them. Such a study aims to substantiate the following premises: 1. Representation and substitution, far from being mutually exclusive, are complementary concepts which must be held together, each illuminating the other. As such, they express a view of reconciliation which is both cognizant of sin's radically incapacitating effect---necessitating a Substitute who acts in our place apart from human cooperation---and consonant with the inner logic of the incarnation, wherein such substitution ontologically implicates us as those included in Christ's representative existence as Elect Head of humanity. 2. The marriage of representation and substitution presumes a trinitarian view of grace, interpreted not primarily in legal terms but relationally , in the covenantal context of the Triune God's elective resolve to draw humankind within the faithful embrace of His dynamic, self-giving love through becoming the God of, for and with humankind in Christ. 3. The hypostatic union is vital, not only to an understanding of Jesus' Person as both in continuity with humankind and utterly unique, but also in providing the essential bilateral dynamic by which to interpret his atoning mission, i.e., fulfilling the covenant not only from the divine side qua God, but simultaneously embodying the necessary human response---God as man---on our behalf and in our place.

Full text
Abstract:
In this thesis I develop an account of Marx's concept of "freedom" through its relation to other key concepts in Marx's work. First, I distinguish Marx's understanding of "freedom" from historical liberal conceptions of freedom, or "liberty," and show that Marx has a concrete understanding of freedom. This leads to a close analysis of Marx's concept of freedom primarily through two texts, the Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844, and the later Grundrisse. Although in both dimensions of the problem I utilize the relation of the concept of "freedom"' to the concepts of "alienation"-- which gives aspects of freedom through its obverse relation to freedom, and "human essence"--which underlies both concepts but is given through them as well, the problem is developed differently in each due the orientation of each text. I give further aspects of Marx's understanding of "freedom" through an analysis of Marx's account of capitalism and exchange value. After having developed an account of Marx's concept of "freedom," I explore avenues for developing a viable Marxism and the grounds of possibility for the realization of freedom.

Abstract:
In vehicle navigation systems, it is important to have accurate estimates of vehicle positioning. The process of determining positioning is called localization. There are two methods for localization, absolute positioning and relative positioning [1]. An absolute positioning system, such as Global Positioning System (GPS), determines the localization by using external distance and heading measures. Relative localization determines the position of an object based on its previously known location and through sensors that determine speed and heading. Examples of relative positioning sensors include wheel encoders, inertial sensors and accelerometers. The objective of this thesis is to analyze different methods to perform localization and navigation on low speed, low cost go-karts for Augmented Reality Mario Kart game application. Several different low cost localization methods (both absolute and relative positioning methods) were tested and compared in order to improve positioning information of the go-karts. It was found that the popular solution for localization, absolution positioning using GPS, alone provided insufficient accuracy needed for this game system. Dead-Reckoning (DR), a relative positioning technique, also suffered from inaccuracies due to accumulation of measurement error when used by itself. The optimum low cost solution was achieved by using GPS and DR in conjunction with beacons to deliver the best accuracy. The improvement of this solution with four beacons over the standalone GPS solution was 3.620 meters in Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), the error criterion used in this project.

AbstractThis chapter examines a new form of autofiction that has emerged in the twenty-first century, which the chapter proposes to call metanarrative autofiction. Such writing displays awareness of how our ways of narrating our lives are socially, culturally, and historically conditioned. The chapter conceptualizes metanarrativity in this context as a form of self-reflexive storytelling that makes narrative its theme, reflecting not only on the process of its own narration but also on the roles of cultural narrative models in making sense of our lives. The chapter discusses affordances of metanarrative autofiction in Annie Ernaux’s Les Années (The Years) (2008), Karl Ove Knausgaard’s Min kamp (My Struggle) (2009–2011), and the Finnish singer-songwriter Astrid Swan’s Viimeinen kirjani (2019, My Last Book).

Abstract:
This work is part of a thesis developed within a wider investigation by Dr. José Rosas, chief researcher of Fondecyt project n° 1141084. "Santiago 1939. Karl Brünner’s idea of “modern city” and the Official Plan for the Urbanization of Santiago after 50 years of validity”.This projectstudies and analyzes the idea of modern city contained in the Official Plan for the Urbanization of Santiago, elaborated in 1939, and its implementation since its entry into force 50 years ago. I am embarking upon studying the current form of “archipelagic city” in Santiago, viewed as a consequence of the crystallization of the suburban expansion deriving from the garden city model, and Brünner’s Official Plan.
