Abstract:
The objective of this thesis is to isolate the symbolism of ornaments and armaments in the epics and in the rituals of Kannaki and Draupadi A detailed comparison of ornaments and armaments in the Cilappatikaram and in the Mahabharata will be provided, as well as an analysis of the function and meaning of these objects in the ritual traditions of Kannaki and Draupadi A study of the epic and ritual significance of ornaments and armaments will not only contribute tn the understanding of the nature and the role of these symbols, but should also shed light on the interaction between the Tamilian and Sanskritic goddess traditions.
It would appear that ornaments and armaments have religious significance, signaling, by their presence or absence, transitions from auspiciousness to inauspiciousness on individual, social, and cosmic levels. In this respect, they are the vehicles of divine powers and energies.

Abstract:
To prevent damage to the cabin crew an optimal coffee- and teapot in a number of aspects in airline catering was developed, so called “SAS-kannan”. It was launched in 1980 and has been manufactured in over 300 000 copies, which has worn out the mold and it is in need of replacement. The mold is advanced and it will be expensive to manufacture a new one. August Lundh who is the manufacture of “SAS-kannan” today, want to develop a new product for serving drinks with a cost-effective manufacturing. It should involve the positive qualities on the “SAS-kannan” and be adapted to today's airline catering. The objective of the thesis was to develop an ergonomic and functional product for serving cold drinks with cost-effective production and the adaptation to today's storage trolleys on aircrafts. The research began with a comprehensive theoretical framework consisting of scientific articles and academic approved books. Interviews were made to complement the theoretical framework and primary data was collected. All the gathered information was examined in the next step to ensure the validity and reliability. A case study was conducted at August Lundh by a product development that was based on the examined information. To do more detailed tests 3Dprintings were created of each development. The result was a pitcher that is designed to enable an uncomplicated and ergonomic use. It is also adapted for efficient and stable storage in the ATLASboxes, easy filling of the beverage and washing. The pitcher holds 1.5 liters and is a perfect combination of the number of servings, refills of the pitcher and a low weight. The pitcher is made with injection molding and is made out of the Bisfenol A free plastic Tritan. The grip is designed to give the pitcher an ergonomic use for different sized hands and it is symmetrical to allow equal use of both left and right handed. The spout provides a controlled and even beam, and a drip free serving by cutting the beam properly. The spout is designed so that the pitcher only needs to be tilted 90 degrees from an upright position to be emptied. The lid is a separate part which is put on the pitcher with press-fit and it helps to control the beam during serving and to prevent spills in case of turbulence. The authors believe that the objective has been accomplished by a thorough theoretical framework and an empirical study through interviews and a case study.
För att förhindra skador på kabinpersonal utvecklades SAS-kannan som var en optimal kaffe- och tekanna i ett flertal aspekter inom flygcatering. Den lanserades på 1980-talet och har idag tillverkats i över 300 000 exemplar vilket har medfört att formverktyget blivit slitet och är i behov av att bytas ut. Det befintliga formverktyget är avancerat och det blir dyrt att tillverka ett nytt. August Lundh som idag tillverkar SAS-kannan vill därför utveckla en ny produkt för servering av dryck med en kostnadseffektiv tillverkning. Den ska kunna jämföras med SASkannans positiva egenskaper och vara anpassad för dagens flygcatering. Syftet med examensarbetet var att ta fram en ergonomisk och funktionell produkt för servering av kall dryck med kostnadseffektiv tillverkning samt anpassning till dagens förvaring i serveringsvagnar på flygplan. Forskningsprocessen påbörjades med en omfattande teoretisk referensram bestående av vetenskapliga artiklar och akademiskt godkända böcker. Intervjuer gjordes för att komplettera den teoretiska referensramen och primärdata samlades in. All insamlad information granskades i nästa steg för att säkerställa validiteten och reliabiliteten. En fallstudie utfördes hos August Lundh i form av en produktutveckling som var baserad på den granskade informationen. För att kunna göra utförligare tester skapades 3D-utskrifter av varje utveckling. Resultatet blev en kanna som är utformad för att möjliggöra en enkel och ergonomisk användning. Den är även anpassad för effektiv och stabil förvaring i ATLAS-lådor, enkel påfyllning av dryck samt rengöring. Då kannan rymmer 1,5 liter ger det en perfekt kombination av antal serveringar, påfyllningar av kannan samt en låg vikt. Kannan är formsprutad och är tillverkad i den Bisfenol A-fria plasten Tritan. Greppet är utformat för att ge kannan en ergonomisk användning för olika stora händer och är symmetrisk för att möjliggöra lika användning av både höger- och vänsterhänta. Pipen ger en kontrollerad och jämn stråle samt en droppfri servering genom att skära av strålen ordentligt. Pipen är utformad så att kannan endast behöver vinklas 90 grader från upprätt läge för att kunna tömmas. Locket är en separat del som sätts på kannan med presspassning och hjälper till att kontrollera strålen under servering samt förhindra spill vid eventuell turbulens. Författarna anser att syftet har uppfyllts genom att en grundlig teoretisk referensram och en empirisk studie genom intervjuer och en fallstudie utfördes.

Abstract:
Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the association between adolescent substance use and psychosis in later life, after taking into account a wide range of known confounders, using data from the Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1986 (N = 9432). Adolescence is a vulnerable neurodevelopmental period, during which many brain maturation processes take place. Substance use during this critical period may disrupt these processes, ultimately leading to mental health problems. Several meta-analyses have demonstrated associations between cannabis use and tobacco smoking and increased risk of psychotic disorders. However, lack of data on the temporal order of the association and uncertainty in relation to the role of confounding factors warranted further studies. Furthermore, there are no longitudinal studies on the association between adolescent inhalant use and psychotic disorders. The study sample consisted of the Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1986. There were 7344 adolescents who participated in the follow-up study in 2001-2002, when they were aged 15-16 years. Adolescents who answered the questions on substance use and psychotic experiences (PROD-screen) were included in the present study. The final sample included 6542 subjects. In this study, an increased risk of psychosis was found in those subjects who had used cannabis five times or more, smoked 10 or more cigarettes daily or had used inhalants 2-4 times or more. Each of these substances were associated with psychosis in a dose-response manner, even after adjustments for confounders. In addition, initiation of daily smoking at 13 years of age or earlier was associated with increased risk of psychosis compared to later initiation. In this comprehensive longitudinal population-based study, frequent cannabis use, daily tobacco smoking and frequent inhalant use in adolescence were independently associated with increased risk of incident psychosis, even after adjusting for confounders such as baseline psychotic experiences, other substance use and history of parental psychosis and substance abuse disorder. The results supply yet another reason to implement effective prevention strategies
Tiivistelmä Väitöstutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää, onko teini-iän päihteidenkäytöllä yhteyttä psykoosiin sairastumiseen senkin jälkeen, kun sekoittavat tekijät on huomioitu. Aineistona käytettiin vuoden 1986 Pohjois- Suomen syntymäkohorttia (N = 9 432). Teini-iässä aivot muovautuvat ja kypsyvät nopeasti, minkä vuoksi se on erityisen herkkää aikaa päihteiden haitallisille vaikutuksille. Nuorena aloitettu päihteidenkäyttö saattaa häiritä aivojen kypsymistä, ja kehityksen häiriintyminen voi myöhemmin altistaa mielenterveysongelmille. Aiempien tutkimusten pohjalta tiedetään, että kannabiksen käyttö ja tupakointi ovat yhteydessä korkeampaan riskiin sairastua psykoosiin. Päihteidenkäytön ja psykoosiin sairastumisen välistä ajallista yhteyttä ei olla kuitenkaan aiemmin kyetty tutkimaan vakuuttavasti, eikä huomioon ole otettu nuoruuden aikaisia psykoottisia kokemuksia. Inhalanttien käytön eli imppaamisen yhteydestä psykoosiriskiin ei ole julkaistu yhtään pitkittäistutkimusta. Tutkimusaineisto koostui Pohjois-Suomen syntymäkohortista vuodelta 1986. Vuosina 2001–2002 järjestettyyn seurantatutkimukseen osallistui 7344 15–16- vuotiasta nuorta. Lopullisessa otoksessa (n=6542) huomioitiin henkilöt, jotka vastasivat kysymyksiin psykoottisista kokemuksista ja päihteidenkäytöstä. Kannabiksen käyttö 5 kertaa tai enemmän, päivittäinen tupakointi 10 savuketta tai enemmän ja inhalanttien käyttö 2-4 kertaa tai enemmän olivat yhteydessä korkeampaan riskiin sairastua psykoosiin seurannan aikana sekoittavien tekijöiden huomioimisenkin jälkeen. Tutkittujen päihteiden käyttö kasvatti psykoosiin sairastumisen riskiä päihteen käyttömäärän mukaan. Lisäksi päivittäisen tupakoinnin aloittaminen 13-vuotiaana tai aiemmin oli yhteydessä korkeampaan psykoosiriskiin tupakoinnin myöhemmin aloittaneisiin verrattuna. Tässä suuressa pitkittäisessä, yleisväestöön perustuvassa tutkimuksessa havaittiin, että toistuva kannabiksen käyttö, päivittäinen ja runsas tupakointi sekä toistuva inhalanttien käyttö teini-iässä olivat itsenäisesti yhteydessä kohonneeseen psykoosiriskiin, vaikka aiemmat psykoottiset kokemukset, muu päihdekäyttö, vanhempien psykoosisairaudet ja päihdeongelmat otettiin huomioon. Tulosten perusteella nuorten runsaan päihteidenkäytön ennaltaehkäisy on tärkeää ja sillä on todennäköisesti positiivisia vaikutuksia nuorten mielenterveyteen

Abstract:
Understanding source-deposit relationships in VMS systems is important for mineral exploration and to increase knowledge of seafloor hydrothermal processes and ocean–crust fluxes. Although it is known that metals are stripped from oceanic crust by hydrothermal fluids and redeposited in orebodies, some aspects are poorly understood. It has been proposed that metal depleted epidosites (epidote–quartz–chlorite–Fe-oxide–titanite units within sheeted dyke complexes) are source rocks for Cyprus-type VMS deposits. To test this hypothesis, the Spilia-Kannavia epidosite zone in the Troodos ophiolite, Cyprus, was investigated. This zone (≥1.9 km3), at the base of the Sheeted Dyke Complex, extends ~5 km parallel and ~2 km across dyke strike and vertically ≥400 m. Differentiation trends defined by LA-ICP-MS analysis of volcanic glass and SIMS analysis of minerals in fresh basalts indicate that olivine and pyroxene were important hosts of Co, Ni and Mn but not Cu or significant Zn. Protoliths for the Spilia-Kannavia epidosite zone were Zn rich, with moderate Mn and Co and low Cu and Ni relative to average Troodos basalts. SIMS analysis indicates that, during epidositisation, chlorite and amphibole are the only silicate minerals that retain Co, Ni and Zn, whilst epidote hosts Mn. Concentrations of Cu are low in all silicates. Base metal mobilisation was controlled by chlorite and amphibole dissolution although concentrations in chlorite and epidote vary with alteration. During alteration, the Spilia-Kannavia epidosite zone released ~0.4 Mt Zn, ~0.06 Mt Ni, ~5.2 Mt MnO, and 0.14 Mt Cu. This exceeds the Zn within any Cyprus-type VMS deposit, and provides enough Cu for a medium-large deposit. In comparison, published data suggest a similar volume of non-epidosite zone diabase could mobilise similar amounts of Zn, less Cu and Ni, and no Co or Mn, but it is not clear if all of these base metals are removed from the sheeted dyke complex. It is concluded that the epidosite zone formation is the only way to mobilise significant amounts of base metals within Cyprus-type VMS systems.
