Abstract:
Poverty and poor settlement problems seem inseparable from the urban living space including in Semarang City. One of the Semarang City Government policy innovations to tackle the poverty problems along with urban settlement improvement has been introduced in “GERBANG HEBAT” Program through the formation of kampung tematik (thematic kampong). In line with city development acceleration, thematic kampong needs a comprehensive planning for ensuring its sustainability. Representing a thematic kampong, Hydroponics Kampung in Tanjung Mas Subdistrict is dealing with high poverty level issue. The chosen hydroponics theme has in fact brought forward development complexity in nature against the existing coastal area characteristics. This study aims to examine the implementation of thematic kampong concept as well as the affecting factors towards its ineffectiveness. The research method applies qualitative descriptive data analysis. The results indicate the implementation process of kampong thematic concept in Hydroponics Kampung failed to encourage community empowerment. Hydroponic cultivation to which community welfare improvement sought for has no longer attractive and sustainable. The failure is caused by several factors such as poor kampong improvement planning, poor technical implementation process, the chosen thematic mismatch to the kampong potentials, and the lack of community knowledge and awareness.

Abstract:
Abstract. This research focused on eco-religion of indigenous Sundanese local community of Kasepuhan Ciptagelar at Southern Halimun Mountain on how to manage sustainable environment. The Kampong Cengkuk is one of several kampongs that still follow the tradition of indigenous local community of Kasepuhan Ciptagelar for hundred years. This descriptive qualitative research aims to reveal the internal and external factors led to deforestation of natural forests with average around 6-8% per year. The research shows that the kampong is still practicing eco-religion tradition by protecting forestland (leuweung tutupan) only for their subsistence. The hypothesis is that the social-culture changes had been occurred in the community not only to restrict outer island agriculture in the forest, but also, in wet rice cultivation activities, to manage sustainable environment. The reduction in process and ceremonial activities also happened, which was originally eight ceremonies of outer island agriculture rituals into five ceremonies of wet rice cultivation. The more profane activities were developing economic crops in home garden. Keywords: Ecoreligion, Kampong, Environment, Forest, Tradition Abstrak.

Abstract:
Millennials have been touted as the generation that will do something about global warming. Conversely, some social scientists studying generational differences have found evidence that younger generations are less likely to engage in civic matters like environmental activism. Lack of civic engagement among Millennials may reduce their likelihood of engaging in collective action on global warming. On the other hand, the world is drastically changing. Within the recent years, climate change has become a growing concern worldwide. The various modes of destruction imposed on the environment are targeted to be the catalyst to these changes. According to climate scientists, sea level rise is one of the most important impacts of global climate change. Fishermen as one of the professions that depend their life on the sea, is affected so much by this condition. This condition might destroy their houses on the coastal area. Urban Kampong in Jakarta as the most dense human settlements in urban area has become one of the main economic generator for a city. With all the contradict characteristics and forms, urban kampongs are the part of the city that cannot be separated from one to another. The existence of kampong has become the main embryo of the development of Jakarta. Jakarta is one of the biggest coastal city in the world. The coastline of this city has become the main economic generator for the coty and the nations. The existence of fishermen’s kampong in Jakarta has also become an essential program for the city, in order to fullfill the needs of fresh catch of sea products. Therefore, The project is aimed to create a sustainable and adaptive coastal kampong community, that has the resilience to the rising sea level. By concerning on the kampong’s behaviour, and doing research of the typological transformation of the kampong, the design is also expected to serve as an archetype fot the future development of endagered coastal settlements all across the country. several sustainable approach and behaviourial approach are also injected in this project to create a contextual design that would help the kampong to grow, and adapt to all the conditions, and situation in the future.

The urban kampong ‘kampung kota’ is an essential part of the formation of city structures. One existing urban kampong in Jakarta is kampung Tanjung Gedong, located at RT 05/RW 08, Tomang Sub-district, Grogol Petamburan District in West Jakarta. Its location, which is 500 meters from Untar Campus 1, was one consideration for selecting kampung Tanjung Gedong as a partner. The team has also carried out community service activities (PKM) in this location, and it is expected that the program implemented would be sustainable. In the context of urban life, kampung Tanjung Gedong has physical, spatial, and environmental problems, mainly due to the high level of building density. The purpose of these activities was to provide a solution for urban village management using a participatory community approach. The proposed solution is penataan Kampung Hijau ‘Green Kampong Management’ by involving community members’ active participation from the beginning of the planning to the management through the placemaking method, which involves three approaches: green planning and design, green open space, and green community. Abstract:
This paper examines how informality is utilised in the branding of urban kampong and how this reshapes kampong development in the context of the global South. We examine the case of Suci area, Bandung, which the local government relabelled as a ‘creative tourism kampong’ in order to rejuvenate the identity of the long-established businesses in the area. Informality is thus strategically used to develop the brand identity of the kampong. The brand of ‘creative kampong’ is used to reflect that deprived communities residing in the kampongs can participate in the local development agenda for promoting the creative economy. However, the policy strategies have not gone beyond relabelling the name: the characteristics and potentials from informality in the kampong are not aligned with and translated into actions to promote creativity and innovation in the existing local enterprises. As the result, the branding strategy could not develop awareness and esteem about the brand image that the kampong is being revitalised as a creative kampong.

The improvement of kampong –a residential area Inhabited mostly by thelower classin a town or city - was one of the efforts to prevent flood in the city of Surabaya. The effortwas not only related to its contribution to minimize the flood butit also hadmany aspects. The serious attention to kampong improvement from the Dutch colonial government only appeared in the second decade of the 20th century. When the city of Surabaya wasoccupied byJapanese troopsfrom March 8th, 1942 untill the independence revolution, the attention tothe kampong improvementstopped and many kampongs were destroyed bythe war. An effort to restore them resumed in 1950s when everything retuned to normal. To intensify the program of kampong improvement, the W.R. Supratman projectwas launched following the establishment of Kampong Improvement Project (KIP). One of the criteria to determine a kampong that needed to be restored is whether itwas always flooded or not. Nevertheless, the kampong improvementdidnot really solve the flood problem thoroughly. However, anevaluation shows that this project has madea significant contribution to minimizing the flood in the city of Surabaya.

Abstract: The urban kampong is a phenomenon created by the uncontrolled growth of the city and the inappropriate use of land. The city of Yogyakarta is known as a city of culture and tourism, inhabited by communities living around the city center. The area around downtown Yogyakarta has a high population density, so that almost all roads and rivers are filled with settlements (kampong), leaving a small portion for urban open spaces. Kampung Badran is a kampong-kota located in the center of economic activity of Yogyakarta city. Uncontrolled land use in the kampong Badran produces displaced space among the houses. The effort to transform displaced space into public spaces is an alternative to creating public spaces for citizens. The purpose of the research is the direction of optimization of multifunctional public space design that is suitable with the needs of Badran villagers. The results of the design optimization of displaced space were positive, that is, the public space became active, increased in quality and beneficial to the citizens because it suited their needs. Keywords: urban kampong, displaced space, public space, optimization. Abstract:
The lack of environmentally friendly development in major city has made the public space in kampongs (or kampung) neglected. The need of a green community space to interact is increasingly scarce. The remaining areas that can be used as an outdoor space are alleys and pathways inside kampong. Public space should then be adaptive in order to meet the demands in a diverse society, thus emerged a design concept of adaptive public space using the capabilities of bamboo to deliver adaptive spaces with a limited range of conditions in its design, construction and usability. Bamboo has been frequently used by the people because of its sustainable characteristic. The method used in this study is the case study method. Qualitative data were collected through observations and interviews resulted in the analysis of existing conditions then formulized as a design criteria. Design method uses the concept of programming which is to formulate the mission, goals and performance requirements to create a concept. The drawn conclusion is that the alleys inside the kampong can be used as a public space by applying adaptive design principles. The use of bamboo in design is an appropriate solution based on its construction and material properties.

Abstract: Open space is one of a supporting lives the city. Its presence has an important role for the people living surrounding it. Along with development process, the quality and quantity of open space can be degraded especially when its located in kampong. It happens because of an uncontrollable spatial layout. Yogyakarta is a city that also has a kampong, one of them is kampong Bangunrejo which crossed by Winongo River. The character and local potentials of this riverbank kampong makes the government of Yogyakarta and Forum Komunikasi Winongo Asri (FKWA) to plan a open space revitalization. It aims to improve the image a kampong through open space that located on riverbank. The aim of this research is to get a spatial layout of open spaces in kampong Bangunrejo. This spatial layout is expected to give an idea of how the open space works. The results are expected to guide open space design recommendations, corresponds to its performance. The analysis process utilised a quantitative technique using Depthmap program. By using this method, which focused on spatial layout of open spaces, would strengthen its qualitative analysis to be more real. Public open spaces were selected to represents different typologies of open space, Bangunrejo. The result of the discussion found that in general there is a relationship between the active space used as a public open space and a performance space. Performance space is influenced by aspects of connectivity (global and local integration), visual quality (visual integration), and movement patterns of people. Moreover, in a system of kampong, diversity of open space variations also affect the performance of the space.Keyword: spatial layout, public open space, space performanceAbstrak: Ruang terbuka merupakan salah satu pendukung kehidupan dalam kawasan. Abstract:
Kata kunci: spermatozoa, ayam kampung, pengencer, ringer laktat, putih telur (Motility and Abnormality of Kampong Rooster Sperm Diluted with Different Kinds of Extenders and Stored at 5 C for 48 Hours)The purpose of this research was to determine the interaction effects between types of extender and storage time on sperm motility and abnormality of kampong rooster. This experiment was implemented following a 6x5 factorial design, in which the ratio between Ringer Lactat and egg albumen i.e. r0= control; r1=ringer lactat; r2=75% ringer lactate+25% egg albumen; r3=50% ringer lactate+50% egg albumen; r4=25% ringer lactate+75% egg albumen, and r5=egg albumen as the first factor and storage time which consisted of t1=1 hour; t2=12 hrs; t3=24 hrs; t4=36 hrs as the second factor. Each of the treatment was replicated four times. Results indicated that the types of extender and storage time had no significant interaction (p>0.05) on the percentage of motility and abnormality of kampong rooster sperm. However, each of the treatment had a significant effect (p<0.05) on the motility and the abnormality of kampong rooster sperm. The highest value of sperm motility (82.5 %) was obtained from a ringer lactat extender. This sperm motility value has a significant difference (p<0.05) from the 5 other types of extender. The lowest value of sperm abnormality (8.5%) was obtained from an hour of storage time. This value has a significant difference (p<0.05) than the 4 other treatments. However the percentage of abnormal sperm from all the treatments is less than 20 percent. It could be concluded that kampong rooster sperm which diluted with ringer lactate stored at 5 0C can still be utilized for Insemination not until 12 hours of stored. Keywords: sperm, kampong rooster, extender, ringer lactatee, egg albumen

Among the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), there is a goal to create cities and settlements that are safe, resilient, inclusive, and sustainable. In the context of inclusive and sustainable development, all citizens have rights on the city, especially in the context of housing as one of the primary needs that have to be addressed and prioritized by government. All of urban residents, including low-income and urban dwellers, have equal rights to live a decent life, for affordable housing, for healthy residential environment and for equal distribution of public services and basic infrastructure. In this context, the existence of urban kampongs, which dominate urban-housing areas and provide residential area for many low-income communities, needs attention in urban development. The purpose of this study is to formulate generic strategies towards urban kampong quality improvement, both socially and environmentally. Using mix-method (spatial analysis, content analysis, dan SWOT analysis) this paper explains the distribution and characteristics of urban kampongs in Bandung city and formulate strategies to improve the quality of urban kampong environments towards inclusive and sustainable development. This study shows that more than 55% of urban kampong in Bandung belong to the category of slums area. The results of this study concluded that the sustainability status on the socio-economic dimension is still relatively higher compared to physical dimension. This study also formulated strategies both from physical and socio-economic aspects based on case studies in three urban kampong areas in the city of Bandung.

Abstract:
This research departs from the assumption that generally the public only comprehend artists only when they appear on stage, They do not realize their creative activities while they are staying at home. The focus of this research is the community of gamelan musicians and dancers who settled in kampong Kemlayan, Surakarta from 1930-1970. The method used in this study is the historical method including heuristics, source verification, interpretation, and historiography. The results of the research showed that the palace artists in Kasunanan Surakarta considered that the kampong where they live was not only a place to live but also a place where they can practice and rehearse before they performed in the palace in front of their King or in other public spaces. It is in their small kampong that they cultivate creativity without strict rules like in the palace. New gendhings (gamelan songs) and choreographies were born in this kampong. This had strengthened the kampong’s identity as the “breeder” of productive artists. For decades, lots of karawitan and dance activities in Kemlayan had changed its face. It was like a “stage” that invited the people’s and local children’s attention. The plenty activities had attracted and encouraged the local children to join the activities. In this way, regeneration process was taking place.

Abstract:
Abstract-The development of a given settlement or residential area cannot be detached from the phenomenon of the urban kampong succeeding in holding out, based on the concept of harmoniously living together as members of a community in society, and one of the strategies used is keeping a close-knit community. The city of Bandung with its concept of being a creative city supports the idea of having creative kampongs that promote the arts and culture of the local community. The creative kampong is expected to be able to provide solutions by creating a better environment, and one of these solutions is exploiting the potential of the natural and human resources available to improve the local community’s welfare. The aim of this research study is to determine how exactly the community living in the creative kampong of Dago Pojok has been able to enhance the physical setting of a limited amount of space in such creative ways to fulfill the need for a range of activities. The method used for this research project can be classified as qualitative by way of frequent mapping of the physical setting at the creative location selected, based on the outcome of observation and recommendations made by the actual initiator of the creative kampong. This stage was followed by mapping of activities and behavior or attitude in the area under observation over a certain period of time. In order to find out more about the physical setting during incidental activities, the data were obtained from the documentation of the creative kampong. The processed data were subsequently analyzed to determine to which degree the need for activities in a particular physical setting can be attempted by way of creative aspects. In the open space used for everyday activities and creative pursuits, the physical setting initially influenced the activities themselves, and the varied activities went on to provide a context for creativity in the same manner as a physical setting experiences change in keeping with the need for space. The physical elements that undergo change may be categorized as fixed, semi-fixed, and non-fixed elements, and those situated in the open (public) space may be classified as base plane, vertical plane, street accessories, illumination and the scope-related atmosphere. Keywords: change in physical setting, open space, creative kampong, Dago Pojok Kampong

Abstract - “Bandung the Champ” is a program organized by Bandung’s Municipal Government to develop the local economy and increase the quality of urban life. One of these programs is called the Kampong Champ, which puts forward the concept of the Creative Kampong. The purpose of this program is to develop the economy of the local community by way of exploring the potential of the citizens, and to create a kampong fit for tourism. The Creative Kampong at Dago Pojok has been built and expanded from 2010 up to the present. The phenomenon that has taken place consists of the change made in the spatial lay-out to accommodate tourist activities based in these quarters that are of a temporary kind. This research project aims to identify the change mentioned above as a consequence of the marked shift from daily activities in the neighborhood to tourism-related ones and to reveal the influence of the change in spatial arrangement made in this kampong on the spatial lay-out of the Dago Pojok area. The methods employed for this research consist of the qualitative method and the descriptive method along with field observation using the technique of observing place-centered mapping. The study of the discussion starts off with identifying the arrangement of physical space that has undergone change due to a change in activity, followed by an analysis of the influence of the architectural elements on the change made in the lay-out of physical space and the approach to the morphological aspects of the city to identify the impact of these changes on the planning of this urban area. The results of the study indicate that the changes made in the arrangement of the activity space and the circulation have been caused by the change in daily activities into tourism-related ones coming from the Creative Kampong so that the latter’s spatial lay-out cannot accommodate these activities properly. As a consequence, the space needs to be rearranged with the element of semi-fixed features due to the density of the relatively tall buildings in this urban kampong. The changes in spatial arrangement made in the various areas under observation have exerted an influence on the urban kampong’s spatial lay-out, amounting to a structural change in the lay-out and orientation as well as the formation of hierarchy and datum in the area of Dago Pojok. Abstract - The Arab Panjunan kampong serving as the research object happens to be one of the heritage areas of Cirebon Town. This urban kampong has certain ethnic characteristics typical of Arab quarters that make it unique, thus contributing to the rich cultural history of Cirebon. As a heritage area, it is important for this ethnic Arab neighbourhood of Panjunan to draw up an inventory of the specific architectural elements that are still traceable, such as the urban lay-out and its contents as well as the landmarks of this area observed from a physical-spatial angle. The aim of this research project is to find out about this kampong’s various architectural elements that are recognized as such by the locals. This will be the contributing factor in the process of determining which environmental elements can be classified as typical landmarks. The first step taken in the research conducted is field observation in order to establish the elements that have survived in the kampong, including the architectural, social, and cultural ones. The observation related to architectural elements has been identified in accordance with the theory concerning Elements of Urban Design as proposed by Hamid Shirvani in his book The Urban Design Process. The next step is conducting research using the Cognitive Method as applied to the kampong dwellers in Panjunan by way of sketched maps and guided interviews. The respondents, classified based on ethnic heritage (descent) and gender, were requested to describe the environmental elements in this ethnic Arab kampong as far as they could recognize or identify them. Those who experienced difficulties in describing the sketches were assisted by the researcher based on the stories that had been supplied. Based on the acquired data containing these environmental elements, the aspect of memories contained therein was studied by way of interviews linked to the Continuity Theory by Breakwell. Subsequently, an analysis was made of the basis underlying the recognition of these elements based on the Landmark Theory by Kevin Lynch, and classified based on the criteria drawn up by Eko Budihardjo. Through the analysis, it was discovered that Panjunan’s Merah Mosque and its Asy Syafi’i Mosque indeed qualify as as architectural elements that show continuity of memory, gaining validity as iconic elements or landmarks on the regional scale of Cirebon’s ethnic Arab kampong of Panjunan. Abstract:
In the beginning, Kampong Pelangi in Semarang was a slum area, then it creatively changed as an interesting tourist attraction. The community of tourism awareness called pokdarwis has formed to manage tourism activities in the village. Nonetheless, pokdarwis, which should have an important role in the development of tourism, in fact, it is getting fainter. Even today, it can be said that pokdarwis role is no longer significant as each community has initiated to carry out tourism activities and promote Kampong Pelangi tourism independently, in which the impact of tourism is no longer felt by the community as a whole but rather the individual community itself. Based on the above phenomenon, this study was conducted to identify obstacles experienced by pokdarwis in maintaining the sustainability of tourism in Kampong Pelangi. Using qualitative methods, the research outcome will be a tourism development strategy related to strengthening the role of pokdarwis in Kampong Pelangi.

Abstract:
Tourism activities can never be separated from the history of a city and the influence of the development of the city itself. Aspects of tourism are very dependent on culture and public understanding of a tourist attraction in a city. Kampong Semut is one of the historical relics of the city of Surabaya which has the potential to become a tourist facility. The potential is due to the fact that Kampong Semut has a potential in the form of community attachment to the location. Abstract:
The Indonesian Ministry of Environment in 2014 released study results that 60-70% of rivers in Indonesia have been polluted by domestic wastewater, which is not treated properly. Improper and inadequate wastewater treatment not only pollutes water resources and damages ecosystems, but can also pose a significant public health risk. The development of spontaneous settlements in urban kampong makes the environmental quality within the settlements getting worse and many people consider that the area of urban kampong is not habitable. The efforts to treat wastewater before being discharged into water bodies are very important. The study of "vertical constructed wetland" model using water plants which are also ornamental plants can be considered as an alternative system for household wastewater treatment in kampong settlements. The objective of the research is to develop an alternative model of wastewater treatment that can overcome the obstacles of implementing a wastewater treatment system in terms of cost and availability land. The result shows that the removal efficiency of BOD, phosphate and total coliform are 71.64%, 50,92% and 99.67% respectively. Since the research is still being conducted on a laboratory scale, the further study must be developed with real case studies in low income community settlements in Kampung Kota. Additionally this research can give suggestions to local government an alternative policy to implement domestic waste water treatment plan in a densely populated settlement along the riverbank in the city.
