Abstract:
Liver is considered to be one of the most vital organs that functions as a centre of metabolism and excretion of waste metabolites. A number of risk factors predispose an individual to hepatic injury and thus liver diseases. Total death worldwide due to liver diseases raised by 50 million per year over two decades, according first ever WHO Study of Liver Disease Mortality. In recent years Indian Traditional Medicines like Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani have gained importance and popularity because of their safety and efficacy in liver diseases. Several Ayurvedic proprietary liver preparations are being extensively used in Ayurveda for the management of liver diseases. About 600 commercial herbal formulations with claimed hepato protective activity are being sold all over the world. In India more than 93 medicinal plants are used in different combinations in the preparation of 40 patented herbal formulations in the form of liquid and tablet. But very little is known when and how these formulations are to be used in present practice. Out of this easily available most commonly used liver preparations Adliv, Amlicure DS, Arkaliv, Ayuliv, Hepjaun, Kamilari, Kamilari plus, Liv Aid, Livercure, Livergen, Liv 52, Livobell, Livokin, Livomyn, Livpar, Nirocil, Stimuliv, Strongliv, Terfoliv and Vasuliv are taken for the study. These preparations are classified on various basis like available market form, Herbo-Herbomineral preparations etc. Kutaki is most commonly used single drug in maximum number of preparations followed by Bhringraj, Bhui Aamalaki, and Kalmegh. Individual drugs of the preparations are studied according to Rasa, Virya and Vipaka. Uses of individual drugs as well as of liver preparations are also studied in relations with liver diseases. Abstract:
AbstractA mineralogical and 4OAr/39Ar study of 13 amphibole samples in the Kamila Amphibolite Belt and Kamila Shear Zone in northern Pakistan has found a correlation between the degree of greenschist facies alteration and quantity of excess 40Ar. Additionally, there is a north–south divide with amphibole samples from the northern region showing larger degrees of gree schist facies alteration, brittle deformation, and excess 40Ar incorporation compared to the predominantly plastically deformed, less altered, amphibole samples from the Kamila Shear Zone in the south. Acid leaching of two amphiboles from the Kamila Amphibolite Belt indicates that a large proportion of the excess 40Ar is correlated with later greenschist facies alteration hases, and can be easily removed by acid etching, thus revealing acceptable regional 40Ar/39Ar plateau ages.

The author presents poetry by Kamila Janiak in the context of avant-guard pop-culture. She deals mainly with punk and cyber-punk motifs of this poetry, which alow to understand them as a feminist, post-human and anty-capitalist project. She shows how Janiak for her purposes uses d.tournements: she takes on the one hand principles, which rule in the “controlled societies” and on the other hand pop-culture aesthetics and psychodelic rock music.

Morgan, Shirley. "The Life of Kamilaroi man Barry Keegan : a Professional Aboriginal Ballroom Dancer." Thesis, The University of Sydney, 2022. https://hdl.handle.net/2123/28782.

Full text
Abstract:
In Australia, if you asked people who was a famous Aboriginal person you are likely to be told the names of a number of different sports people or maybe an artist or two. You don’t hear about many other famous Aboriginal people. You certainly wouldn’t heat about a successful Aboriginal ballroom dancer. I decided to undertake this Master’s thesis to document the life of my cousin Barry Keegan who after having a very traumatic childhood rose up to be a national and international professional ballroom dancer and successful entrepreneur. He married three times but didn’t have any children, I feel that it is up to me to carry on his legacy. This is a detailed story of Barry’s life including has time in several institutions, including Boystown, Yasmar and Mt Penang, however it also is the story of myself and my journey through academia and that of how Barry fitted into my family. I gathered my research mainly from Barry who sadly died before I could complete this work. I also was able to retrieve several documents giving accounts of his life and had access to family documents and photos. I come to this thesis with a lived experience of being an Aboriginal person, my interviews with Barry highlight the importance of Oral History in documenting Aboriginal people’s lives. I visited him a number of times and stayed overnight writing notes on the stories he had to tell. Sometimes I could tell that it was very painful him so I just let it go. There is a larger story there to tell but not for me if he did not choose to open up. Being in his eighties and suffering from terminal cancer it is amazing and fortuitus that I got as much information that I did.

Vlatkovic, Michelle. "Voice in Australian creative non-fiction: The project of my belonging." Thesis, Griffith University, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/10072/376833.

Full text
Abstract:
The Notebook of Belonging engages with and contributes distinct values in relation to connection, belonging and narrative. Its ‘Voice’ situates an ontological approach originating from familial and cultural traditions. Multifaceted, it speaks to Western intellectual values, Aboriginality and the transformative nature of silence. Primarily a practise-based creative nonfiction project, the Notebook of Belonging has an embedded exegetical commentary. The exegetical cannot be sliced away at either end without weakening the centre; the centre is not as strong without the exegetical. In this way, there are tensions and there are alignments in how book learnt interacts with oral story. The authority of book knowledge in relation to oral traditions is contested here. The Notebook of Belonging presents knowledge imparted in oral story-telling whereby belonging and connection exist through a shared understanding of the interconnected nature of life and being. Oral story uses silence, repetition and reflection. The use of silence, repetition and reflection imparts knowledge in a non-linear and circular process. Replicating this non-linear, circular approach, the Notebook of Belonging is composed of a fragmented, discontinuous narrative, moving back and forth through time, recounting events in a non-linear order, where the multidimensional nature of time and story are always in dialogue, as they are in life. The intention is to show a constellation of belonging both conceptual and tangible; situated between European and Kamilaroi understandings. The idea of creating a constellation using a discontinuous narrative is also informed by Walter Benjamin’s One-Way Street (2016). Benjamin showed how a fragmented text creates subliminal connections between textual passages, complimented by explicit themes, formal echoes and rhymes; all of these may be structured in such a way to convey a constellation of meaning to the reader (Benjamin, 2016, p. 7). Individual fragments work as philosophical miniatures rather than snap shots. Moments from life recounted in the Notebook of Belonging focus on connection not rupture, informed and in response to Roland Barthes’ Camera Lucida (2010) which presents the concept of the studium and the punctum in relation to the photographic image. The studium is the public broad range of meaning associated with the image. The punctum, on the other hand, is the private association the viewer has with the image. It is conjured by the spectator’s own experience. It is unexpected and consequently remembered (Barthes, 2010, p. 26). Other writers encountered in this research include: Nicholas Rothwell, Ngarta Jinny Bent et al, Kim Scott, Jeanette Winterson, and Helene Cixous. Their works investigate oral story as well as the power of narrative and literature.

Baran, Justyna. "Żywioł i duch : o wyobraźni pneumatologicznej Krzysztofa Kamila Baczyńskiego." Doctoral thesis, Katowice : Uniwersytet Śląski, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12128/5560.

Full text
Abstract:
The thesis concerns the dimensions of the poetry of Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński which reveal particularly strongly in his late poems and provoke research at the frontier of literature and theology. Pneumatological imagination is a term that describes a particular quality of the poetic imagination of „the second Słowacki” which reflect on the different levels of the organization of the text. Pneumatology is the study of the theology of the Holy Spirit (from Gr. pneuma – breath), in literary studies – these are literary expressed beliefs and views on the spiritual structure of man and the world and also – the way of expressing them. Baczyński’s spirituality is being shaped almost in front of the reader and against the background of dramatic historical circumstances. The aim of the study was to capture the richness of pneumatological phenomena in their poetic representation. Basing in taking account of the Baczyński’s biography on this dimension which had a direct influence on the shaping of his poetic imagination , the author explores particularly pneumatologically significant poems and linguistic representations of the Spirit. An important dimension of the study was to trace the intertextual relations within the poetry of Baczyński, where literary references are the result of pneumatological quests and clearly contribute to the development of the individual, unorthodox religiosity of Jan Bugaj.

Dogar, Saira Fatima. "Space-body dynamics in the novels of Kamila Shamsie and Uzma Aslam Khan." Thesis, University of Leeds, 2017. http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/20458/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis offers a comparative analysis of geographical themes in the works of two contemporary Pakistani women writers, Kamila Shamsie and Uzma Aslam Khan. In view of the importance of Pakistan’s geostrategic location, contemporary Pakistani writing in English has garnered critical attention in the context of its political perspectives. However, this thesis argues that given the inextricable intertwinement of geography with history and politics since the spatial turn, the geographical within the geopolitical deserves equal attention in the context of Pakistan. In the thesis, I apply a methodological framework derived from phenomenology and feminist geography in order to conduct a study of the representation of Pakistani terrestrial, marine and aerial geographies in Shamsie’s and Khan’s novels. More specifically, I evaluate Shamsie’s and Khan’s return to Pakistani ground reality, sea topography and aerial wildernesses via tropes associated with cartography and palaeontology: tropes of feminist transnational mobility that gauge the political, social and cultural implications of the spatial turn. The thesis concludes that a return to geography and geology in Shamsie’s and Khan’s fiction offers the possibility of a reorientation of Pakistani identity and a partial resolution to the contested notions of Pakistani belonging and citizenship in keeping with the inherent diversity and pluralistic dimensions of its geographical terrain. It also offers Pakistan possibilities of a more peaceful convergence and engagement with its international partners. This alternative rerouting/rerooting of identity foregrounds the potential benefits of a more intimate engagement with the geological and geographical aspects of Pakistani space.
