Full textAccording to some traditional cosmological beliefs in Senegambia, the spirits of the dead evolve in an alternative world and are given the responsibility of ruling that of the living. The main function of the religious phenomenon is to give life a meaning by overcoming uncertainties and reducing existential anxiety in the face of a tricky and often hostile nature. The direct or indirect hold of the sacred over activities sets essentialist concepts and practices perpetuated through a ritualization necessary for the survival of the intangible cultural heritage of oral societies. The ritual practice has established itself as the main process for the conservation of the intangible cultural heritage of the Ajoor. Expressions and representations are often wrapped in a supernatural and / or symbolic substrate on which theoretical, moral, technical and religious achievements are based. The civilizational influences received on both sides have generated a form of cultural hybridization with spatial slight differences in the way of practicing ancestral animist beliefs. It goes without saying that the main purpose of studying the past of communities should be a better understanding of the present with a view to preparing for a possible prosperous future, in a position that takes sustainability into account. By drawing inspiration from the local cultural core, it will be possible to produce a model of citizen able to efficiently deal with the challenges that are contemporary with him. This thesis aims at modeling this argument through the example of the intangible cultural heritage of Kajoor mainly inhabited by Ajoor people

Full textThis paper deals with intercultural dialogue between Western culture (Lithuanian) and Eastern culture. We suggest to think of myth as a connection between those two cultures in Donaldas Kajokas’s Novel "Ežeras ir kiti jį lydintys asmenys". The main object of this novel is a lake. It symbolizes the primordial chaos. In the middle of the lake there is an island of divine beauty and enormous energy. In this novel the center of the space is an island. The edges of the lake embody the sections of the mythical world. On one side there is a swamp – the ulterior world. On the other side there is a manor house – the man‘s living place. Manor residents do not change their appearance neither their character. The main character Gabrielius Ašautas changes depends on the time he spends in the manor house. The manor house hostess Augusta is the warden of the world order. She was killed by her kitchener Juta because the last-mentioned wants to stop the creation of the cosmos and to recreate the chaos. There are a lot of unreal creatures in the swamp, so-called anatta. In Buddhism, the term anatta refers to the notion of soulless. Eventually the main character turns into anatta. The main themes in this novel are: an eternity, struggle between chaos and cosmos, and the primordiality of the world.

Full textVytautas P. Bložė, Donaldas Kajokas and Rabindranath Tagore are well acquainted with indian Vedic mythology, therefore in their poetry they adjust it interestingly and beautifully, by revealing the meanings of different phenomenons, and in this way enriching lithuanian poetry. Most of the attention the poets allot to the moon trop, the relationship between the soul and the Supersoul and the archetype of God Krishna, less attention – to the sacred tree and flower. Kajokas attaches great importance to the moon. Bložė's moon induces spiritual growth and does not allow to yield to material darkness, it is also divine person with limitless world. To Kajokas it is not only the light, destiny, but also God (with moonlike face), who plays the flute, it is the trope of a woman and a child too. And for Tagore the place of the moon takes God Krishna Himself with His moonlike face. Their moon is always acting divine person, what is the characteristic of indian mythology. The motive of the relation between the soul and the Supersoul is very significant to the poets. All three of them lean on the allegory of Vedic scriptures and present this trop as two birds. The bird Supersoul always advises what to do for Her minor to make itself free from low whims, by reviving divine friendship. Tagore's bird is endlessly happy being together with the Lord, Bložė observes these birds and Kajokas' bird is unhappy, because it doesn't heed to the Supersoul. Kajokas' and Tagore's Supersoul and... [to full text]

Full textDenna uppsats behandlar innerstadens kajer i Stockholm.

Full textThis work discusses assumptions of the emerging West and East cultural dialogue. The topics and possible spread of the theme is presented using the insights of Carl G. Jung and Martin Heidegger, the thoughts of Lithuanian thinkers. The author concisely presents the reception of Lithuanian literary criticism on this question, surveys the Eastern and Western creative and life contexts of Donaldas Kajokas, which he formulated in his auto commentary. The main part of this work is committed to the analysis of D. Kajokas oeuvre – his poems and essays in the aspect of West and East. It is observed, that creative consequence of this cultural junction is unfolding resources of native language. It gives an opportunity to envisage in this civilization dialogue some Lithuanian trails as chosen grammatical forms, stylistic expression, poetical forms. It is obvious, that essay, besides it‘s quotation, structural and genre games, which are attributed to Western way of prose craftsmanship, intellectual and existential pursuance, which is realized in thinking about language and inner reality, testifies the continuous voyage towards unanimous world, towards the synthesis of abovementioned cultures.
