Abstract:
The contemporary concept of health literacy has received heightened attention within the academic community over the last decade. Health literacy, which is related to the acquisition, understanding and application of health-related information (Jordan, Buchbinder and Osborne 2010), has been acknowledged as a key public health goal within Australia. Health literacy is particularly important where parents and children are concerned, as parents play a key role in recommending or discouraging activities that may impact on children’s physical health, such as sport. A health literacy approach may reshape parental motivations towards the holistic outcomes of sporting engagement, thereby promoting a healthier approach to sport participation. This is fundamental, given the current orientation towards a competitive sports model of participation within Australia, even for those participating at an amateur level. At present, improving social awareness of the physical health benefits of junior sport participation is a major challenge for communities, as parents are motivated by a combination of factors. Sport sociology literature suggests that social health is the primary beneficiary and motivator of junior sport participation, which encompasses the formation and development of friendships and communication skills. For parents, another key motivational factor for junior sport participation is the importance placed on winning. However, the fundamental benefits of junior sport involvement extend beyond the competitively oriented goals that are often enforced by parents. Consequently, there is a concern that parents who lack a holistic understanding of the physiological, biomechanical and social benefits of junior sport may impact on sport discontinuation. This paper will provide discussion around the importance of taking a health literacy approach towards junior sporting participation rather than the competitive model that currently dominates sport in Australian culture. It will highlight the health and broader social benefits of taking such an approach.

Abstract:
Objectives: This study evaluated prior sports participation and training frequency during elementary to high school and their association with acute and overuse injuries in Japanese college students currently majoring in physical education. Methods: This retrospective study included 292 students who completed questionnaires that assessed their type of sport participation (single sport or multiple sports), training frequency (number of days per week), and injury history (acute and overuse) during the elementary, junior high, and high school periods. Results: In total, 47.9% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 38.2–57.7) of elementary school-aged athletes played multiple sports; this decreased to 22.3% (95% CI: 14.1–30.4) in junior high school and 5.5% (95% CI: 1.0–9.9) in high school. There was a significant difference in the training frequency between those who had overuse injuries and not in elementary (p < 0.05), and junior high school (p < 0.05).Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that participating in multiple sports through junior high school may lead to improved sports levels (i.e., participation in higher levels of competition). In addition, appropriate management of training frequency may help reduce the incidence of overuse injuries.

Abstract:
Background. The hypothesis of this study is formulated as follows: the experience of junior basketball players in competitions will be more valuable than that of cadet basketball players. The aim of our study was to examine the peculiarities of youth and basketball players’ sport experiences. Methods. A total of 104 basketball players, 47 cadets and 57 juniors participated in the study. Survey questionnaire is used for the study. The following methodologies were used: Athlete’s Personal Experience Survey (Athletic Coping Skills Inventory, ACSI-28) and the Sport Experiences Questionnaire (SEQ). Results. The results of the study revealed statistically significant differences (p <.05) in personal sport experiences (athletic endurance skills) among basketball players of different age groups according to the following indicators: the coach’s influence on basketball players, concentration, athletes’ self-confidence and resilience. The results of the study of athletes’ competitive experiences revealed that there were statistically significant differences (p <.05) between cadet and junior basketball players in competition experience. No statistically significant differences were found in terms of risk and progress parameters. Conclusions. The coach’s influence was greater for the cadet basketball players. Concentration, self-confidence and resilience were better among junior basketball players. This shows that when competing, junior basketball players have higher levels of concentration compared to the cadet group, as they are more confident and can better cope with tension. In addition, it was found that the experience of junior basketball players in competitions is richer than that of cadet basketball players. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health 18, no. 14 (July 9, 2021): 7369. http://dx.doi.org/10.3390/ijerph18147369.

Abstract:
Although early sports specialization is associated with sports-related injuries, relevant quantitative studies on young non-elite athletes, the majority of sports participants, are scarce. We described sports specialization time points and the characteristics of sports-related injuries. Undergraduate students at a university in Japan (n = 830) recalled their history of sports participation from elementary to high school and sports-related injuries in a self-administered questionnaire. Of 570 valid respondents, 486 (85%) engaged in sports at least once. Significantly more respondents played multiple sports in upper elementary school (30%) than in other school categories (1–23%). In junior high and high schools, 90% and 99% played only one sport, respectively. Of the 486 respondents who played sports, 263 (54%) had experienced acute or overuse injuries. The proportion of injured participants significantly differed by school category: lower elementary school (4%), upper elementary school (21%), junior high (35%), and high school (41%). The proportions of acute or overuse injuries in males were higher than those in females. In conclusion, this study clarified a slight variation in sports items, particularly in junior high and high schools, which demonstrates 13 years as the age of beginning specialization in a single sport. More than half of the non-elite athletes experienced sports-related injuries. Injuries were frequently observed in males and those in junior high and high schools.

Abstract:
Reflection is considered a key factor in expert learning and refers to the extent to which individuals are able to appraise what they have learned and to integrate these experiences into future actions, thereby maximizing performance improvements. We assessed the relation between self-reported reflection at baseline and attainment (i.e., international vs. national level) 2.5 years later in 52 elite youth athletes. A Mann-Whitney U test showed that those who became senior internationals scored highest on reflection during their junior years compared with those who only attained senior national status. More specifically, athletes who made the transition from junior national to senior international level had higher reflection scores than their peers who did not reach international status and had similar scores to those who were internationals as juniors. These results emphasize the value of reflection in elite youth athletes to attaining senior international status later in development.

Abstract:
This study compared the number of sports offered to males and females in Texas colleges (N~ 113) to determine if a gender difference existed among leaders, coaches, and athletic directors of the female sport programs. In addition, predictions of gender for leaders were made based on the 10-year trend that the data covered. The data were collected by surveying annual issues of Sport Guide of High Schools and Colleges—Coaches Directory and revealed there were significantly more sports for males than for females at both the junior and senior college level. At the junior college level the mean for sports in the male programs was M=3.28, and for female programs it was M=2.09, t(9)=22.37, p > .0001. The results at the senior college level were also significant. The mean for sports in male programs at that level was M=5.67, and for females it was M=4.14, t(9)=6.68,p> .0001. There were significantly more males than females in leadership roles in female sport programs. The results of the correlated t test between the means of all positions of leadership held in female sport programs was significant. The mean of the positions held by males in junior colleges was M=90.2, and the mean for females was M=40.3, t(9) = 11.82, P> .0001. The mean of the positions held by males in senior colleges was M= 186.6, while that for females was 128.3, f(9)=6.68, p > .0001. Various causes for the reduction in the number of female coaches and implications of the current trends are discussed.

Abstract:
Rates of childhood obesity within Australia continue to rise, with consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages one contributing factor. Community sport provides an opportunity to implement policies promoting water as the beverage of choice. However, the attitudes of parents toward a water-only policy are not known. This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate parents’ opinions towards beverage consumption and a water-only policy. Data were collected from participants (n = 159) using an investigator-designed questionnaire, administered using iPads, at a junior Triathlon Victoria event. Water was the most popular beverage provided before (75%), during (85%) and after (61%) sport. Parents were more likely to provide sports drinks to children older than 14 years (27%). Three-quarters (77%) of parents reported having received no information regarding hydration requirements. Parents rated the importance of hydration prior to, during and after a triathlon as high (9.08 ± 1.2, 8.76 ± 1.3 and 9.30 ± 0.4 out of 10, respectively). Parents were supportive of a water-only policy at all junior triathlon events and all junior sporting events (7.94 ± 1.3 and 7.86 ± 1.9, respectively). There was less support for a water-only policy for adult triathlons (6.40 ± 3.1). A water-only drink policy at junior sport is viewed positively by parents. This warrants further research and policy development to facilitate behaviour change.

Abstract:
Since competition activities can improve sportsmanship, moral development, motivation, and prepare students in the "real world", competition activities (sports orientation) in physical education is very necessary. A strategy that is proposed to stimulate sports orientation in physical education in this study is a Sport Education Model (SEM). The purpose of this study was to determine the differences between team sports and individual sports when using SEM, towards sports orientation in physical education for junior high school students. The research method uses true experiments with posttest-only control group design. The participants in this study were 80 grade seventh junior high school students. Using the Sport Orientation Questionnaire (SOQ), the data was analysed using independent samples t-test. The results stated that there were significant differences between the two conditions. The findings suggests that sports orientation in SEM team sports are more influenced by goal orientation is in accord with the statement that achievement in sports competition (sports orientation) depends on goal orientation, but not at SEM individual sports.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Introduction: Burnout syndrome manifests in athletes in the form of three main symptoms/characteristics: emotional and physical exhaustion, sport devaluation, and reduced sense of accomplishment. Faced with the need to achieve optimum performance, young tennis players are exposed to several stressors than can lead to burnout, yet few reports on burnout in tennis have been researched. Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze burnout in elite tennis players in different junior categories (CAT14, CAT16, CAT18). Methods: A total of 130 athletes, including 102 men (x=15.14±1.3) and 28 women (x=15.04±1.13), were selected for this cross-sectional study. Burnout was measured using a version of the Athlete Burnout Questionnaire (ABQ). Results: CAT18 tennis players had higher rates of overall burnout and sport devaluation compared with CAT16 and CAT14 players. CAT14 and CAT16 players had higher scores for “reduced sense of accomplishment,” in association with sport devaluation. Conclusion: Differences found in CAT18 players may reflect the demands of transition from the junior to the professional circuit. Reduced sense of accomplishment should be monitored in athletes, to prevent burnout and cessation of sports activities. Level of Evidence III; retrospective comparative.

The choice of sports uniforms should be tailored to the sports activities undertaken. For that reason, the selection of uniforms should be comfortable to use, absorb sweat, and have a circulation between clothing and skin, fit uniform size and at affordable price. The study was conducted to examine the measured application of ergonomic applications on sports uniforms that can make comfort in exercising found on junior high school students. The design of the study used pretest-posttest control group design involving 2 groups of subjects namely the Control Group and the Treatment Group of respectively 12 samples. The research was conducted at Kesuma Sari Junior High School, Sesetan, Denpasar, Bali. The measured data were age, height, body weight, ambient temperature, dress comfort questionnaire, skin temperature response and pulse recovery response. The findings of descriptive analysis showed significant differences (p <0.05) on the variables of comfort and surface temperature of the skin, no significant difference (p> 0.05) on the variable of pulse recovery. The mean value of the difference of comfort before and after exercising in the Control Group decreased by (-4.17 ± 4.668) and in the Treatment Group increased by (2.50 ± 3.477). The mean value of the skin temperature difference before and after exercising in the Control Group increased the temperature by (0.57 ° C ± 0.64) and in the Treatment Group there was a temperature increase of (0.01 ° C ± 0.65). The Mean decrease in the pulse recovery in the Control (107.03 ± 15.18) and the Treatment Groups (106.93 ± 16.37) was not much different so there is no influence between the two. It can be concluded that the ergonomic application of sport uniforms increased the comfort of exercise in the junior high school students of Kesuma sari, the ergonomics application of sport uniform may improve the skin temperature response in exercise on the junior high school students of Kesuma Sari, and the ergonomic application of sport uniform had no effect on the pulse recovery response in exercising on the students SMP Kesuma Sari.

Abstract:
Narrative theory states that through creating personal stories people can make sense of their lives and create an identity. The “performance narrative” is a story of single-minded dedication to sport performance, where, winning, results, achievements are pre-eminent and link closely to the athlete’s mental well-being. The “performance narrative” has received attention in professional sports settings, but research has yet to investigate the possible effects on junior tennis players. The purpose of this study was to examine the experiences of 4 UK, elite junior tennis players and describe what it is like to perform in the elite junior context. An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis of 4 elite junior tennis players describes their insights into elite junior tennis. This study found that (a) participants prioritise results at an early age (b) the “performance narrative” influenced participants attitudes to learning (c) the “performance narrative” reduced participants enjoyment of competition. The findings of this research contribute to an evolving, problematic epistemology of sports coaching and confirms that the performance narrative permeates junior tennis culture, interferes with attitude to learning, and reduces enjoyment of competition. The findings present governing bodies opportunities to inform player, parent, and coach education so the performance narrative does not negatively influence junior tennis players.

Background: Beach handball is a recent team sport characterized by defensive and offensive actions on a sand surface. Scientific evidence has shown that body composition is fundamental in sports performance. The main objective of this study was to know the body composition, anthropometric characteristics, and bone mineral density of elite beach handball players. Furthermore, another purpose was to analyze the differences between categories (junior and senior) and playing position. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study of 36 male players (18 juniors and 18 seniors) of the Spanish National Beach Handball Team was conducted. Full profile anthropometry and calcaneal ultrasound measurements were used. Results: Significant differences between categories (p < 0.05) were found in: height, body mass, arm span, BMI, muscle mass, fat mass, bone mass, skinfolds, and body perimeters. The somatotype changes depending on the playing position. Bone mineral density of the players was adequate. No significant differences were found by playing position. Conclusions: Senior players had a better body composition due to the presence of less fat mass than junior players. This study provides reference values of elite junior and senior beach handball players and by playing positions. This data is useful for the identification of talents and players who should be trained to improve their body composition.

Participants were shown a junior sports pack for their favourite sport that contained merchandise with branding representing their assigned sponsorship condition. Participants viewed and rated the sports pack, completed a distractor task, then completed questions assessing brand awareness, brand attitudes and preference for food sponsors’ products.SubjectsStudents in grades 1 to 3 (aged 5–10 years; n 1124) from schools in metropolitan Melbourne, Australia.ResultsCompared with the control condition, there were no significant effects of unhealthy food branding on awareness of, attitudes towards or preference for these brands. Exposure to healthier food branding prompted a significant increase in the proportion of children aware of these brands, but did not impact attitudes towards or preference for these brands. Exposure to either healthier food branding or obesity prevention campaign branding prompted a significant reduction in the proportion of children showing a preference for unhealthy food sponsor products.ConclusionsThe sponsorship of children’s sport by healthier food brands may promote awareness of these brands and healthier sponsorship branding may reduce preferences for some unhealthy food products. Establishing and implementing healthy sponsor criteria in sports clubs could forge healthier sponsorship arrangements and help phase out unhealthy food and beverage sponsors.

Participants were shown a short video and a promotional flyer for a fictional junior sports programme, with sponsor content representing their assigned brand. Afterwards, participants were asked a series of questions assessing their brand awareness, brand attitudes and preference for food sponsor branded products.Setting:Australia.Participants:Australian parents (n 1331) of children aged 6–9 years. Results:Compared with the control condition, unhealthy food sponsorship promoted increased awareness, branded product preferences and favourable attitudes towards unhealthy food sponsor brands. Healthier food sponsorship promoted similar effects for healthier food sponsor brands, except there was no significant increase in positive attitudes towards these brands. Sponsorship by public health nutrition campaigns promoted more negative attitudes towards unhealthy food sponsor brands and increased preference for healthier food sponsor branded products. Overall, healthier food sponsors and public health campaign sponsors were perceived to have better programme–sponsor fit and to be more appropriate sponsors of children’s sport than unhealthy food sponsors. Conclusions:Restrictions on unhealthy food sponsorship of children’s sport are needed to prevent unhealthy food brands from exploiting junior sport sponsorship to enhance their appeal. Sponsorship of children’s sport by healthier food brands or public health nutrition campaigns could help promote healthier food choices among parents.

Of 10 464 invited participants (age 13–19 years), 7619 (73%) participated, of whom 3785 (50%) were boys.Outcome measuresMental health outcomes included psychological distress assessed using a short version of the Hopkins Symptom Check List Five items, self-esteem assessed using a short version of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and life satisfaction assessed with a single-item satisfaction with life measure.MethodLogistic regression models were used to estimate the likelihood of psychological distress, low self-esteem and low life satisfaction, according to self-reported PA level and type of sport participation, stratified by gender and school level (junior vs senior high school).ResultsFewer senior high school students participated in team sports compared with junior high school students (p<0.001). Physically active adolescents and participants in team sports had higher self-esteem and life satisfaction. A high PA level, compared with a low PA level, was associated with reduced odds of psychological distress among senior high school students (OR 0.63, 95% CI 0.46 to 0.86 for girls and OR 0.46, 95% CI 0.27 to 0.79 for boys). Team sport participation was associated with reduced odds of psychological distress in senior high school girls.ConclusionA high PA level was favourably associated with various dimensions of mental health, especially for adolescents in senior high school. Team sport participation may have a positive impact on mental health and should, therefore, be encouraged.

Abstract:
High performance sport for females is an area which is gaining more and more relevance today, but which hasn’t received the same research interest as sport for males. The aim of the present study was to analyse the motivational climate perceived by high performance female athletes and the implications on perceived motor competence and autonomous behaviour and check the differences according category, sport experience and training hours in performance and master climate. The participants were 615 female athletes who practice top level team sports, with ages comprised of 16 to 38 (M = 22,10; SD = 4,91). The sample consisted of two different categories: junior (n = 242) and senior (n = 373). These players participated in different team sports, specifically football, handball, basketball and volleyball, training between 6 and 24 hours a week (M = 8,34; DT = 4,33). The variables measured were: perceived motivational climate in sport, autonomous behaviour and perceived motor competence. A cluster analysis was carried out using, as a variable, the perceived motivational climate, and showing the existence of two profiles, one related to ego and the other to task. The multivariate analysis showed that the profile orientated towards the task had significant differences compared to the autonomous behaviour (M = 4.66 vs M = 3.41). At the same time an analysis was carried out looking at different social demographic variables, revealing how there were differences in the sports experience (those participants with more than ten years’ experience were more orientated towards ego, compared to those with less than ten years’ experience) and the category (junior athletes were more orientated towards the task, compared to senior athletes). It was concluded that a greater orientation towards the task can lead to an improvement in the perception of motor competence, with the youngest and least experienced athletes being the most prominent in this category.

Abstract:
Problem: Children and adolescents are exposed to high peak loads at an early age in junior competitive sports. Little is known in this age group about the injury-free occurrence of pain and the sport-related consumption of painkillers. Methodology: Narrative review with multivariate and paired keyword search for studies that evaluated localization-dependent, injury-free prevalence of pain, analgesic use, and determinants of use in junior competitive sports. Results: Derived from the few existing studies, a pronounced willingness to participate in competitions and training despite pain (“playing hurt”) is found in junior competitive sports among injury-free junior athletes. Analogous to adult competitive sports, analgesics, especially from the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, are used at an early stage. Especially in adolescents with increasing performance progress, in particular female athletes, the use of analgesics for joint pain has been documented. The consumption takes place for the compensation of post-exposure pain conditions but also prophylactically. The use of analgesics and the decision to take them are influenced by the immediate care environment in 2/3 of cases. A physician is involved in only 1 of 3 analgesic use decisions. Discussion: For exertional pain, a displacement mentality exists among many stakeholders in the junior setting. There is early, with age increasingly uncritical and excessive analgesic use. This consumption behavior harbors a high potential for abuse due to self-defined indications, procurement, dosage and duration of use. There is an individual need for a stronger appreciation of pain conditions by the caregivers in junior competitive sports with early consultation with a doctor, combined with the question of how much pain is allowed.

Abstract:
Investigations in a variety of chronologically grouped team sports have reported that elite young athletes were more likely born in the early months of the selection year, a phenomenon known as the relative age effect. The present study investigated the birth dates and developmental paths of 238 (15 to 20 years old) Major Junior ‘A’ hockey players from the Ontario Hockey League to determine if a relative age effect still exists in elite junior hockey and if the path to elite sport was accelerated (i.e., fast tracked). The results identified a relative age effect in elite hockey although it is only apparent among individuals who fast track.

Abstract:
A range of cognitive skills that support the development of sport potential have been suggested to be important for athletes and coaches. This study explored performers’ psychological characteristics within orienteers. The psychological skills of World Elite orienteers and athletes in the National Junior Squads of both Great Britain and Switzerland were assessed using the six-factor Psychological Characteristics of Excellence Questionnaire. Data suggested that, as juniors, elite orienteers reported less support for long-term success than the Swiss juniors, perhaps because of the earlier adoption of self-coaching, but were not significantly different from either junior group on all other factors. British juniors were not significantly different from the other two groups on any factor. Follow-up qualitative approaches explored possible reasons for the World Elites’ early reliance on “self” rather than “other”, the role of the coach and the self-coaching phenomenon. The role of orienteering in developing these skills is also discussed along with unique psychological challenges faced by high performing orienteers.

Abstract:
This paper attempts to review the development of tennis in Malaysia and efforts made by its national governing body, Tennis Malaysia and to discuss on the development of tennis in Malaysia through the successful mode of tennis development strategy, and analyzes the successful mode of tennis development strategy in its planning and implementation. Tennis is competing with other sports in attracting the youth to take up the sport as one of their preferred leisure activities. Tennis Malaysia also engages in Junior Development activities to bring junior tennis players up the learning curve and be more competitive. Elite athlete development is the result of a combination of elite sport policies, athlete development pathways and interactions between various stakeholders that are involved in the delivery of athlete development pathways. These factors make elite athlete development a complex, multi-layered and multi-faceted field of study that necessitates specific research efforts that focus on how these factors contribute to elite athlete development in specific sports. Tennis Malaysia and its affiliates have endeavored to raise the standard of the sport in the past few years and have been relatively successful in achieving their objectives although there is much scope for improvement. The national body will continue to implement and improve its approach in developing tennis in Malaysia and will conduct some capacity building activities towards achieving excellence for tennis to continue to grow in all aspects.

Abstract:
Both elite sport and the road to elite sport performance could be described as stressful. The junior-to-senior transition has proven to be difficult for many talented football players because of the often non-normative nature of the transition. The aim of the current study was to investigate junior football players perception of performance and organizational stressors in the junior-to-transition. Ten players (5 junior-elite, 5 junior non-elite) were inter-viewed, and the data were thematically content analysed. The highlighted performance stressors were pressure to perform, and preparations related to performance issues. Among organizational stressors were increased level of performance and uncertainty of outcome related to environmental issues. Difficulties related to dual career and prioritizing football before friends were related to personal issues, lack of coaching were leadership issues, and maladaptive communication were related to team issues. The overall findings in one of few studies on junior players in football indicate access to performance arenas, while lack a social affiliation to the senior team players and lack of feedback from the senior team coaches and lack a mastery arena including social support. The results from this would highlight the importance of adjusting stressors for players in the junior-to-senior transition in football.

This case study report describes the application of a cognitive behavioural approach to the delivery of a sport psychology service to an individual sports person – Edward – from a trainee sport and exercise psychologist’s perspective. The delivery of service was across the client’s two sport areas – golf and basketball. The client was pro-active in seeking sport psychology support to enhancing performance and enjoyment rather than seeking help with a performance deficit. The report outlines the consultation context and various ethical issues associated with delivery of service in this context. The theoretical and philosophical frameworks which guided the consultancy are described and justified with regard to the client and the context. It is explained how these factors guided the development of the programme for service delivery. The report also offers an evaluation of the work and reflections on the process of service delivery from a trainee’s perspective.

AbstractObjective:To systematically audit the extent of unhealthy sponsorship within junior community sporting clubs and ascertain whether differences exist across geographical areas and sport types.Design:Club sponsorship data were assessed to determine the extent of unhealthy food/beverage, alcohol and gambling sponsorship using a cross-sectional design. Differences across geographical areas were assessed using logistic regressions.Setting:A stratified random sampling procedure was used to select thirty communities across the state of Victoria, Australia. Within each community, local clubs across the top eight participating junior sports were selected for audit.Participants:Sponsorship data were collected from 191 club websites and Facebook pages in September–November 2019.Results:Unhealthy sponsorships represented 8·9 % of all identified sponsorship arrangements. A quarter of all clubs accepted alcohol (25·6 %) and unhealthy food sponsors (25·9 %), and one-fifth of all clubs accepted high-risk food (unhealthy brands with large market share) (18·1 %) and gambling sponsors (20·4 %). Acceptance of unhealthy sponsorship differed across sport types with football, netball, cricket and soccer clubs having the greatest numbers. Compared with metro areas, a significantly greater proportion of sporting clubs in regional areas were affiliated with unhealthy food (32·7 % v. 19·6 %) and high-risk food sponsors (26·9 % v. 9·8 %). A higher proportion of clubs in low socio-economic status (SES), compared with the high SES areas, were affiliated with alcohol (33·9 % v. 16·5 %) and gambling sponsors (27·4 % v. 12·6 %).Conclusion:Victorian children participating in community junior sports are being exposed to marketing of unhealthy brands and products. Public health intervention is necessary to protect children from this exposure.

Abstract:
Under the federal trademark law, owners of famous sport trademarks may bring legal claims against unauthorized users of their marks under the infringement and dilution theory. Although the rationale of trademark infringement has been supported by various notions of consumer psychology and law and economics, the theory of dilution has been criticized for the lack of empirical support. This study investigated whether the junior use of major sport trademarks would have dilutive effects on the senior marks in financial terms. The study employed the contingent valuation method, a technique designed to estimate the economic values of nonpecuniary assets such as trademarks. A total of 140 subjects were exposed to dilutive information while they purchased sport brand merchandise. A series of pre- and posttests revealed that moderately famous sport trademarks suffered dilutive harm from junior use, whereas exceptionally famous marks were immune to the dilutive effects. Theoretical and practical implications were discussed.

Lumbar lordosis may be a risk factor for injury in junior-level athletes involved in sport which requires excessive amounts of extension. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between lumbar lordosis in junior-level cricket players with and without previous low back injury. Results demonstrated a statistically significant difference in lumbar lordosis between the two groups (LBI = 42.53 ± 9.10°; no LBI = 30.33 ± 8.36°; p < .01), with previous lower back injury accounting for 32% variation in lumbar lordosis (p < .01). The results indicate lumbar lordosis may be an issue worth examining in those athletes who partake in sports which have high levels of extension; but, as there is no accepted definition to lumbar postures, it is difficult to accurately interpret measurement results.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to examine the latent structural relations between the main personality traits and dimensions of motivation among junior karatekas. Empirical research was conducted on a pertinent sample (N = 148) of karatekas from Valjevo, aged 15.18 on average (SD = 1.9). Three measuring instruments were used: the Big Five Inventory - BFI, the Sport Attitudes Inventory - SAI, and the Task and Ego Orientation in Sport Questionnaire - TEOSQ. The results of the Pearson's correlation coefficient have shown the significance level of p ≤ .05, and a significant number of bivariate linear correlations (of low or moderate intensity) between the manifested variables. Using the canonical correlation analysis, two significant canonical functions were extracted. The first unipolar pair of canonical factors in the personality traits section, with 44% of the explained variance, was maximally defined by Conscientiousness and Extraversion, and was defined to a lesser degree by the Openness/Intellect variable, as well as dimensions of motivation (motives to achieve power, motives to achieve success and orientation aimed towards the task). The second isolated bipolar pair of canonical factors in the personality traits domain, with 21% of the explained variance, was determined by the Neuroticism variable, and to a lesser degree by Agreeableness and Conscientiousness, as well as the motive to avoid failure and orientation aimed towards the goal. The obtained results have shown that the measuring instruments used in this research have satisfactory construct and convergent validities, as well as satisfactory reliability of internal consistency, and can therefore be used in personality assessment of Serbian adolescents. The results of this transversal research offer relevant empirical contribution and important implications to everyday sports practice and better understanding of the complex constructs mentioned in this research. In addition, this research contributes to sports psychology, which enables higher level of understanding of the functioning of an athlete's personality during adolescence.

Abstract:
There is continuing discussion in talent research on the best approach to developing sporting expertise through learning activities during early sport participation. Among other concepts, the specialized sampling model describes a pathway between early specialization and early sampling and yields promising results in Swiss football. As successful constellations of early sport participation might be affected by sport-specific constraints (e.g., age of peak performance, selection pressure, and physiological/psychological requirements), other popular game sports may show similar promising pathways. This study investigates whether ice hockey, another popular game sport in Switzerland, shows similar successful constellations of early sport participation. A sample of 98 former Swiss junior national team players born between 1984 and 1994 reported on early sport participation through a retrospective questionnaire. Using the person-oriented Linking of Clusters after removal of a Residue (LICUR) method, volumes of in-club practice, free play, and activities besides ice hockey until 12 years of age were analyzed, along with player’s age at initial club participation. The results indicate that ice hockey enthusiasts with the most free play and above-average in-club practice had a greater chance of reaching professional level compared to other groups. This implies that high domain specificity with varied sampling experiences is the most promising approach to developing sporting expertise in ice hockey. As similar results were previously found in Swiss football, comparable sport-specific constraints might indeed require similar constellations of learning activities during early sport participation. Therefore, in popular game sports in Switzerland, the specialized sampling model seems to be most promising.

Abstract:
The main purpose of the current study was to examine how the coach-athlete working alliance, psychological resilience and perceived stress are uniquely associated with burnout among junior athletes in sport. A sample of 670 Norwegian junior athletes practicing a variety of sports participated in the study. A hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed that the bond dimension of the working alliance, the protective factors ‘planned future’ and ‘structured style’, as well as perceived stress, all contributed uniquely to the explanation of athlete burnout. Abstract:
In sport psychology, there is broad interest in cognitive factors that affect sport performance. The purpose of this research was to examine one such factor, self-talk, in competitive sport performance. Twenty-four junior tennis players were observed during tournament matches. Their observable self-talk, gestures, and match scores were recorded. Players also described their positive, negative, and other thoughts on a postmatch questionnaire. A descriptive analysis of the self-talk and gestures that occurred during competition was generated. It was found that negative self-talk was associated with losing and that players who reported believing in the utility of self-talk won more points than players who did not. These results suggest that self-talk influences competitive sport outcomes. The importance of "believing" in self-talk and the potential motivational and detrimental effects of negative self-talk on performance are discussed.

Abstract:
Strength is an important motor skill, present in various proportions in all motor acts, with a determining role for a successful practice of certain sports. With a lower genetic determinism, strength can develop through systematic training, especially after the age of 14-15, after puberty. Outside the classical means used to develop it, the author has thought that the implementation of certain alternative means could be effective, eliminating the routine and bringing a more relaxed work environment. Thus, a pedagogical experiment was conducted, in which the independent variable was represented by a sport climbing program, introduced in the weekly training cycle for the experimental group, over the course of 14 weeks. Three control challenges were used, during the initial and final tests; the results have confirmed the initial hypothesis, the final conclusions highlighting the positive influence of sport climbing in increasing certain strength parameters.
