Abstract:
Abstract Technical Graphics is one of the technology subjects taught at Junior Certificate level in post- primary schools in Ireland. The Junior Certificate examination is held at the end of the Junior Cycle in post-primary schools, which caters for students aged from 12 to 15 years. As a teacher of Technical Graphics for the past seven years, I have gained a great understanding and insight into the different topics in the subject and how they are perceived by students. I concur with the State Examinations Commission report (2008) that students lack an understanding of the rotation element of transformation geometry, one of the six topics covered on the Junior Cycle Technical Graphics course. The purpose of this study is to implement a new teaching methodology through the use of SolidWorks in an effort to improve the students’ visualization, spatial awareness and understanding of transformation geometry. I engaged in an action research study of my own practice as I investigated if SolidWorks could actually be used at Junior Certificate level to improve student understanding of transformation geometry. The action research took place over a five-week period and included three cycles of research. The research was carried out with a third-year Junior Cycle group aged between fifteen and sixteen years of age and all students in the class took part in the study. The first stage of the research examined student progress as they worked through the topic following teacher instruction on SolidWorks. The second stage of the research examined the students’ progress as they used the software for themselves. I carried out an assessment task with students towards the end of the study, which showed that student learning had improved in comparison to previous years.

Abstract:
IntroductionIn the United Kingdom, compliance with guidelines on physical health monitoring of patients prescribed clozapine is poor. Our community team established a ‘clozapine clinic’, led by junior doctors, to monitor the physical health of this population.AimsThe aims of this audit were:– to ascertain levels of compliance with guidelines on the physical health monitoring of patients taking clozapine;– to compare the current level of compliance with that prior to the establishment of the clinic.MethodsEleven standards were drawn from National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines and the Maudsley Prescribing Guidelines in Psychiatry.Three audit cycles were conducted: two prior to the establishment of the clinic and one after. In each cycle, searches of patient records were conducted and blood results were reviewed. This was supplemented by telephone calls to general practitioners to ensure a complete data set.Analysis was conducted in Microsoft Excel™ and changes between the cycles were analysed using a two-tailed Z-score.ResultsEach audit cycle included 28–30 patients. In the current cycle compliance levels varied between 66% (annual ECG recording) and 100% (monthly full blood count). The average compliance level was 73% across all standards. This represents an overall improvement on previous audit cycles. Since the clinic was established there has been a statistically significant improvement in compliance with annual monitoring of weight (P = 0.147), body mass index (P = 0.0178), and ECG monitoring (P = 0.0244).ConclusionsImprovements in the care of a vulnerable population may be achieved through setting clear standards, regular audit, and harnessing the leadership and enthusiasm of junior doctors.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper was to examine Irish Physical Education teachers' views on curriculum change at the beginning of its implementation stage, with a particular focus on revision to the Physical Education curriculum and the new Wellbeing programme. In the light of these revisions, teachers were asked to make considerable changes to their beliefs and pedagogical approaches. Teacher change theory provided a lens through which to examine teachers' views. We reimaged the three aspects of teacher change as a triangle or ‘three-legged stool' where the three elements of curriculum materials/resources, pedagogy, and beliefs combine to offer a sense of security to sustain the impending changes. A survey and a series of semi-structured interviews provided data and in total 119 second level Physical Education teachers participated. Analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics of quantitative data and inductive and deductive analysis of qualitative data. Three themes were developed: A Learning Focus, Embracing Change, and Curriculum Enactment. Contrary to recent findings in the change literature, the teachers in this study welcomed curriculum changes as their beliefs aligned with the purpose of the reform of Physical Education. The results indicated that the new curriculum was catching up with teachers’ core beliefs about the purpose of Physical Education. However, in line with recent research, teachers were sceptical about ongoing support for resourcing and continued professional development. In conclusion, the ‘three-legged stool of sustained change has the potential to be unbalanced thereby maintaining teacher buy-in to the new reforms is potentially fragile.

Abstract:
The skill of writing observation report text is one of the skills that need to be mastered by class X high school students. Based on the results of observations and interviews with Indonesian language subject teachers at Arjasa Junior High School, there is a problem in the process of writing observation report text. Students have d ifficulties in starting and developing ideas, have errors in applying linguistic rules, and difficulties in compiling a text framework for the observation report. This is indicated by the low-level of difficulty in learning to write the text of the observation report: only 7 students whose grades have reached the standard grade Standard Score, 28 students do not complete. To improve the writing skills of the observation report text, it is necessary to take action by applying the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model combined with the powtoon application media. The research design used was CAR (Classroom Action Research) which consisted of two cycles starting from planning, action, observation, reflection, re-planning, action, observation, and reflection. The method used to get data is through questionnaires, interviews, observations, tests, and documentation. The results showed that student learning outcomes increased from cycle I to cycle II, namely by 45.7% or as many as 16 students who reached the standard grade increased to 80% or as many as 28 students in cycle II. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that the application of the PBL model with the powtoon application media can improve students' skills in writing observation report text in class X IPA 4 Arjasa Junior High School. Abstract:
The present study examined the validity of the force-velocity (F-V) mechanical parameters of the lower limbs as a predictors of the competitive performance in junior male speed climbing. The second aim was to evaluate F-V characteristics in competitive speed climbers in the junior male category. Ten junior male speed climbers (age: 18±0.5 years; BH: 174.7±4.5 cm; BW: 66.4±6.6 kg; with mean best climbing time from the competition BCT: 7.29±0.66 s) were participants in the research. All they were participants in the Youth European Cup in speed climbing. F-V characteristics were measured using a cycle ergometer test according to the Vandewalle’s protocol. To evaluate of the validity between BCT (criterion) and mechanical parameters (practical measures) from F-V test a standard error of the estimate (expressed as a raw and standardized typical error, TE) and correlation coefficients (rx,y) were used. Moreover, the validity of BCT as a potentially predictor of final competition rank (as a criterion for BCT) was evaluated. Additionally the mean value and standard deviation were calculated for all measured variables. Validity of the BCT as a competition place predictor was largely overestimated (TE=0.73 and rx,y=0.81, p p≤0.05). Accuracy of the BCT prediction for somatic and mechanical variables were very largely error biased. The standardized values of TE for these variables were: 1.93÷7.25. The rx,y were in the range of -0.18 to -0.46. The level of the mechanical variables from the F-V cycle ergometer as a predictors of the BCT in speed climbing may be largely error biased. Application of the cycle ergometer F-V test of prediction BCT values in speed climbing may have low practical value. Moreover, BCT variable may be a poor predictor of the final competition result. Coaches should take these suggestions into account during preparations to speed climbing competitions.

Abstract:
Background: Nutrition problems may happen to all groups of ages. A problem at a particular age group may affect nutrition status of the next periodic life cycle (intergenerational impact). Malnourished children may encounter physical growth, mental and intellectual disorder. Someone’s nutrition status may be affected by food consumption supply. Nutrition status can affect children schooling and academic achievement. Children suffering from iron deficiency have lower score in cognitive growth, study and academic achievement. Objective: To identify relationship between food consumption and haemoglobin (Hb) level and academic achievement of junior high school students at Palembang Municipality.Method: The study was an analytical survey with cross sectional design. Population and samples were junior high school students at Palembang Municipality as subject of the study. Samples were chosen with multistage sampling design, the group was randomly selected and samples of each junior high school and grade were chosen using proportional stratified random sampling technique. Data analysis used univariable, bivariable and multivariable techniques. Bivariable statistical test was used to identify relationship between food consumption and academic achievement and between Hb level and academic achievement; whereas regression test was used to identify relationship between food consumption and Hb level. Meanwhile, multivariable analysis used double linear regression. Data of food consumption were processed using NutriSurvey program for Windows. All data were then processed with SPSS program version 10.Result: There was relationship between food consumption (energy, protein, vitamin C, zinc intake) and academic achievement (energy: p=0.001, r=0.372; protein: p=0.046, r=0.209; vitamin C: p=0.009, r=0.273; zinc: p=0.042, r=0.214), and there was relationship between Hb level and academic achievement (p=<0.001, r=0.421). There was relationship between food consumption (energy intake) and Hb level. (p=0.051, r=0.205).Conclusion: The result of multivariable showed that only Hb level had significant relationship with academic achievement (p=<0.001, B=2.077).

Abstract:
The aim of the research is to establish the level of some psychomotor abilities by determining the rhythmic gymnasts’ capability to perform apparatus-specific technical skills within the composition of their routines, according to the provisions of the 2017-2020 Code of Points. The Wireless training timer (Witty) testing equipment was used to assess relevant types of speed in junior rhythmic gymnasts. The reaction time, execution time and travel speed time were measured in similar technical conditions or close to those encountered in training and competitions. The 14 gymnasts included in the research, aged between 13 and 15 years, are part of the National Olympic Centre for juniors in Arad, all being enrolled in the preparatory stage of training. The analysis of the data from both static and dynamic tests established a referential for the forms of speed to be enhanced by means of apparatus-specific technical routines. Results provide interesting information on the average values, inter-individual differences and homogeneity-related issues (which are relevant especially for gymnasts performing in the group event). The key features of these data, as well as previous analysis of junior routines for the 2017-2020 Olympic cycle, have led us to the conclusion that, in order to get a high score for apparatus difficulty/mastery, more difficulty elements should be added, which requires an increase in all kinds of speed involved by the technique of a specific event.

Abstract:
The research aimed to determine the relationship between the universal and special physical fitness of judoists. The study involved players from the youngster (U16) and junior (U21) age group from provincial teams. The International Physical Fitness Test was used to measure comprehensive fitness, and the Special Judo Fitness Test was applied to assess special fitness. The research has shown that juniors exhibit a higher level of all-round (excluding flexibility) and special fitness than youngsters. More relationships between comprehensive physical fitness and special fitness were demonstrated in the youngster group. Leg muscle strength, endurance, agility, and abdominal strength were found to have the most significant impact on the overall level of all-round fitness in the youngster age group, while in the age group under 21, endurance, hand strength, and arm strength had the most significant impact. It has been shown that the combination of individual components of versatile fitness in a given training cycle may bring positive effects in shaping those features in both age groups. Besides, it has been shown that when taking account of the athlete’s ontogenetic development and his/her sensitive period, the relationships between the components of comprehensive fitness and comprehensive and special fitness can significantly affect the effectiveness of the training process in both age groups.

Abstract:
Basic education is about improving the quality of life of a country’s population and promote social cohesions, and it is also an important factor in shaping a country and region’s person-to-person relationship. This study analyzes the spatial morphological patterns, aggregation characteristics, and distribution inequality among kindergarten, elementary, and junior high schools within districts in Shanghai, using point of interest data, kernel density estimation, Ripley’s K-function, location quotient, and grid analysis to investigate the effect on the distribution of schools using construction land growth data. The findings were as follows. (1) There was little difference in the spatial distribution characteristics of the three school types. They all exhibited the spatial distribution characteristics of core area clustering and the coexistence of multiple circadian layers, in which both the agglomeration size and the aggregation intensity showed the order of kindergarten > elementary school > junior high schools. The spatial distribution characteristics of the three types of schools are highly positively correlated with the population distribution. (2) Spatially, low-level schools were adjacent to high-level schools, and the structure of the three school types showed an uneven distribution overall. The aggregation characteristics of the seven inner districts within Shanghai were relatively balanced, while Pudong District showed the phenomenon of being “high in the southeast and low in the northeast”, and the suburban areas showed an uneven distribution of core district aggregation overall. (3) The longer the construction land growth cycle, the greater the density of school points, and the more consistent the distribution of school points with the direction of construction land expansion.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the problem of improving the process of sports training of high jumpers at the age of 18–19 years by correcting and detailing individual sections of the state athletics training program for sports schools, and Higher Schools of Sportsmanship. The material presented in the article is based on the study and analysis of regulatory documents, publications and scientific literature and allows us to conclude that the regulatory programatic supply of the high jumpers training and training process needs to be updated and corrected. This statement is supported by the results of a statistical study on the qualification level of Ukrainian studentjumpers conducted by the authors. The results of the questioning of Ukrainian track and field coaches also show the lack of demand for the Program, the need for its revision and detailing. A significant drawback of the Program is the generalized nature of the recommended training loads, which are the approximate total annual volumes of training work, without detailing their distribution among training periods and mesocycles. Presented article contains the author's version of the distribution of the training loads of high-jumpers of junior age proposed by the Program among the structural elements of the annual macrocycle training. Further studies suggest practical testing of the effectiveness of the proposed load distribution with the help of a pedagogical experiment. Article material may be useful to coaches of sports schools, athletes, students and teachers of specialized educational institutions.

Abstract:
One of the subjects or subjects of mathematics at the junior high school level is about lines and angles; lines and angles are the material taught in Class VII A of SMP Negeri 2 Arut Selatan. Based on the 2019/2020 academic year test report, the mastery of mathematics material at SMP Negeri 2 Arut Selatan, related to the line and angle material, is 56.90%. This shows that students' learning interest in the material does not determine the lines and angles still. Therefore, the mathematics teacher, who also acts as a researcher to change the learning methods or strategies that are usually applied, namely applying the Numbered Head Together learning method or strategy (NHT). This Classroom Action Research (CAR) was conducted in Class VII A of SMP Negeri 2 Arut Selatan with 30 students. The reflection in the first cycle is that although students in learning mathematics still face some difficulties, the Lines and Angles sub-material, the NHT learning strategy in the first cycle will be implemented quite well. This can be seen in the enthusiasm shown by students in participating in learning and mastery of the material. Using the NHT learning strategy, the line and angle sub-material learning mathematics can be conducive. Applying the NHT learning strategy based on the Cooperative Learning learning strategy demands a lot of students' active roles both in group work and individually. This is evidenced by the acquisition of student learning outcomes that have increased from the pre-cycle to the second cycle.

Abstract:
There has been a massive growth in trade and communication between Ireland and China in the past decade. Under such influence, Irish third level institutions have established Chinese or Chinese-related degree programmes, and post-primary schools have been offering Chinese courses as Transition Year1 modules. However, the continuous development of Chinese language education in Ireland also faces many challenges. Though the Junior Cycle Short Course2 in Chinese has been designed and published for three years now, there are still very few schools offering this course for a variety of educational and sociocultural reasons. In higher education, Chinese programmes are showing decreasing enrolment, and learners were found to suffer from demotivation issues. This paper briefly reviews the development of Chinese language education in Ireland in the past decade. It aims to suggest means of addressing some existing issues from three general perspectives regarding the course syllabi and materials, the Chinese teachers and the relevant research in an Irish context.

Abstract:
The present study aims to demonstrate the relationship between cognitive and behavioral variables that configure expert performance by testing if training in self-regulatory processes would affect the organization of tactics mental representation in soccer. A 2 × 2 mixed design was applied, manipulating the level of training in self-regulatory processes between groups and the moment of evaluation within groups. Participants were 13 under-15 year-old male soccer players from Montevideo, Uruguay, with an average of 9.38 years of competitive experience. The experimental group went through 10 individual weekly sessions of training in self-regulatory processes comprising 11 out of 18 self-regulatory processes presented in Zimerman’s Multiphasic Cycle of Self Regulatory Processes. Greater improvement on the cognitive representation of tactics was observed in the experimental group, which revealed more functionally organized clustering of offensive and defensive team-specific tactical concepts in long-term memory after the training. Results showed significant differences in the organization of tactical knowledge in long-term memory due to the participation in a training program on self-regulatory processes focusing on tactical actions in soccer. This study extended the effects of self-regulatory processes, previously evidenced in specific situations in other sports, to the organization of tactics mental representation in soccer. The effects are related to the facilitation of learning processes caused by the use of self-regulatory processes. The systematic application of learning strategies adapted to tactical situations seemed to enable participants to organize tactical knowledge in long-term memory.

Abstract:
Purpose: The objective of this study is to examine the Japanese junior high school students’ feelings of difficulty in learning mathematics and discuss a possible solution on the ‘Lesson Study’ framework. Methodology: A survey was performed on 616 students of a public junior high school regarding their feelings towards learning mathematics. The survey was carried out at the end of the academic year 2016 in March, and 182 students (44 first-year, 75 second-year, 63 third-year) participated in the study. In this investigation, only those who answered “No Problem” were further scrutinized by means of conjoint analysis for their anxieties towards the specific learning modules following the education system guidelines and classified as ‘Algebra calculations’, ‘Functions’ and ‘Geometrical figures’. Basically, the analysis consisted of assessing these students’ awareness of ‘being good at’ and ‘being not good at’ one specific module relative to the other modules. Data processing and conjoint analysis were performed with Microsoft Excel. Main Findings: Roughly 68% of first year students, 77% of second year female students, and 72% of third year female students felt ‘Not Good At’ towards ‘Algebra calculation’ and ‘Functions’, whereas about 95% of second year male students self-assessed themselves as ‘Not Good At’ towards ‘Functions’, and 79% of third year males as ‘Good At’ towards ‘Algebra calculation’. Thus, even though some students declared “No Problem”, they were actually ‘Not Good At’. Implications: These findings suggest that a class division according to the students’ feelings with ‘Lesson Study’ at the teachers’ level would help struggling students to learn mathematics. In addition, we showed that the use of conjoint analysis-based assessment may help educators and teachers to figure out students’ feelings towards learning mathematics. Novelty: The use of conjoint analysis to analyze the students’ implicit feelings towards learning mathematics is followed by a discussion on the grounds of ‘Lesson Study’, for which a cycle at the individual level is presented.

Abstract:
Introduction: All the research investigating the cardiopulmonary capacity in climbers is focused on predictors for climbing performance. The effects of climbing on the cardiovascular system in adolescents climbing at an elite level (national team) have not been evaluated.Material and methods: Retrospective analysis of the cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) performed on a cycle ergometer during the annual medical examination of the entire German Junior National climbing team on one occasion and for a selected subgroup on two occasions spaced two years apart. The data from the subgroup was compared to an age- and gender-matched control of Nordic skiers from the German Junior National Nordic skiing team. Results: 47 climbers (20 girls, 27 boys) were examined once. The VO2peak achieved by the athletes was 41.3 mL kg−1 min−1 (boys) and 39.8 mL kg−1min−1 (girls). 8 boys and 6 girls were tested twice over a period of 27.5 months. The parameters of the exercise test measured on both occasions were significantly lower than those of the 8 male and 6 female Nordic skiers. There was no change with respect to any variables (e.g. VO2peak, peak work load, peak heart rate, peak lactate or O2 pulse) over the examined period. Conclusions: The elite climbers investigated in this study showed comparable VO2peak values to athletes from team and combat sports. The Nordic skiers to which they were compared showed significantly higher values consistant with the fact that this is an endurance sport. Even though the cardiopulmonary measurements of the Nordic skiers still improved after two years of training, no adaptations could be observed in the elite climbers.
