Full textThe thesis concentrates on train-induced vibration caused by heavy freight trains. Limiting the train speed is the most important mitigation measure of train-induced vibration in Finland at the moment. There are 18 sites with speed limits due to vibration on the Finnish railway network. Speed limits are usually set by first limiting the speed to 60 km/h. If the 60 km/h speed limit seems to have no effect on the vibration the speed is limited to 40 km/h. However, the effects of restricting train speed are rarely studied further. The aim of this research was to find out how restricting train speed affects vibration magnitude and frequency. The hypothesis was that restricting train speed would mitigate vibration. Traffic vibration levels were measured at a test site in Liminka for this research. The site was chosen due to complaints about vibration from the residents. A survey line with four vibration monitors was installed on the ground between the track and a dwelling. In addition, two monitors measured vibration in the house. The survey line was 600 m long. The monitors recorded vibration in all three dimensions for three weeks. During the measurements the passing trains were instructed to drive at different speed in the speed range of 40–70 km/h. The trains in the same weight range were chosen to be studied. The results were evaluated by examining particle vibration velocity and dominant frequency. According to the measurements, restricting the train speed mitigates vibration. However, when the train speed was 58–60 km/h the vibration level grew suddenly higher forming a vibration peak. As the distance from the track grew, the effect of train speed could not be observed due to low vibrations levels. The vibration level in the dwelling house was also low. The train speed had a clear relation to the dominant frequency of the vibration. Increasing the train speed made the frequency higher. This relation could be observed also at longer distances from the track and it be observed in the house as well. The frequency did not depend on the distance. Limiting the train speed mitigates vibration in most cases according to the study. However, when setting the speed limit the possibility of vibration peak occurring at a critical speed should be taken into account. The critical speed is likely to depend on the site. Thus the critical speed found in this study cannot be generalized. Nevertheless, even small changes of the train speed could have significant effects on the vibration

Full textThe bicycle use has been diffused among the population in general, the people started to see it as a way of transport. It has been used both for transportation and for professional cyclists who use it as tool to reach their goals or to win bicycle races. The evolution, both on materials and cycling/bike riding techniques in the second half of last century has changed. In the other hand, fatigue cases which follow some disasters got some relevancy. The first goal was to find some explanation for what happened and how to avoid the problem – the crack, or in some cases the disaster. The cyclism followed the evolution, both on materials, on the road bikes and off-road bikes. Actually many riders know that some samples of bike frames have failed during use or even worse the crack appeared and the frame broke down suddenly. The discussion concerning the bicycle frame resistance doesn’t look finished. The cyclists demands are different. The loads encountered during cycling can be very different comparing on and off-road bikes – Road and Mountain Bike. The start point for the present work involved a sample of a Mountain Bike frame which had failed. The work development was to propose a kind of load which could test the fatigue strength of the material analyzed. The load proposed should be easy to simulate in finite element analysis – FEA, and it must reproduce a normal use condition. The the load were defined, the structure were simulated using a specific software – FEA. Finite element analysis. After the test the responses were collected. The primary goals were to find the location of the main tensile and its measurement in the frame. It coincided exactly with the crack in the real bike frame. Using the normal procedure to predict the fatigue life in the welded joint, the result reached 40% of the fatigue resistance for that joint, considering the load applied. The analysis compared the project resistance to the load to check its capacity to absorb loads igual or above the one which were used. Some riders that are more strength, those who can apply more than the load proposed or even those who are more radical in their way of riding could use the combination of these situations making the load easly amplified by dynamics effects, bumps and high speed for example. This hard condition of use is complex to be reproduced because there isn’t any information concerning strain, speed, angles and the montion that the rider could do when riding a mountain bike.

Many tasks related to the analysis of high-dimensional datasets can be formalized as problems involving learning or testing properties of distributions over a high-dimensional domain. In this work, we initiate the study of the following general question: when many of the dimensions of the distribution correspond to "irrelevant" features in the associated dataset, can we learn the distribution efficiently? We formalize this question with the notion of junta distribution. The distribution D over {0, 1}n is a k-junta distribution if the probability mass function p of D is a k-junta-- i. e., if there is a set J [subset][n] of at most k coordinates such that for every x [set membership] {0, 1}7, the value of p(x) is completely determined by the value of x on the coordinates in J. We show that it is possible to learn k-junta distributions with a number of samples that depends only logarithmically on the total number n of dimensions. We give two proofs of this result; one using the cover method and one by developing a Fourier-based learning algorithm inspired by the Low-Degree Algorithm of Linial, Mansour, and Nisan (1993). We also consider the problem of testing whether an unknown distribution is a k-junta distribution. We introduce an algorithm for this task with sample complexity Õ(2n/²k⁴) and show that this bound is nearly optimal for constant values of k. As a byproduct of the analysis of the algorithm, we obtain an optimal bound on the number of samples required to test a weighted collection of distribution for uniformity. Finally, we establish the sample complexity for learning and testing other classes of distributions related to junta-distributions. Notably, we show that the task of testing whether a distribution on {0, 1}n contains a coordinate i [set membership] [n] such that xi is drawn independently from the remaining coordinates requires [theta]](2²n/³) samples. This is in contrast to the task of testing whether all of the coordinates are drawn independently from each other, which was recently shown to have sample complexity [theta](2n/²) by Acharya, Daskalakis, and Kamath (2015).

Connecting rods screws maintain the connection between cap and shank supporting the tensile, compressive and transversal loads applied on the big end. In this case, the design of bolted joints become complex since the screw’s position and bearing geometry lead to eccentric forces acting on the joint split line. Due to that and the reduced number of publications on the subject, this dissertation aims to develop a "hybrid approach" for the analysis of bolted joints in angled connecting rods, using results from a simplified finite element model as input for the VDI 2230 part 1 guideline. In addition to that, this study evaluates the influence of unilateral opening phenomenon on fasteners fatigue life, analyzing the results in order to develop a criterion for fatigue analysis of connecting rod bolts. Despite the restrictions, the “hybrid approach” proved to be attractive due to the low computational cost and accuracy, especially for the calculation of minimal residual tensile force to prevent opening, being suitable for multiparametric optimization during project early phases. The opening phenomenon showed no significant changes in fastener’s additional forces, fact related to the position of joint opening points. Nevertheless, the simulations showed that the loading conditions did not influence on the local Haigh diagram of critical nodes, which suggests the use of fasters fatigue tests as input variables for fatigue simulations, thus including the beneficial influences of the manufacturing process.

This work has as objective of making, to test and to compare the glued joints of butt, scarf and finger with three species of wood of different densities. The collage of the wood makes possible the use of pieces and surpluses of wood that are usually discarded, could minimize the cut of a lot of trees, be of the nature or of planned planting. The methodology of production of the joint, it was established with base in indications described in Brazilian norms. Macroscopic observation of the wood it was accomplished, for confirmation of your species. After established the dimension of the joints they were made bodies of proof, using the adhesive Compound Adhesive of epoxy base and wood Angelim-pedra, Jatobá and Tauari, acquired in wood deposit in the city of Ananindeua-Pa. With relationship the characterization of the adhesive, it was verified through the traction tests that has good mechanical resistance. After collages of the joints it was accomplished traction tests to determining the resistance of the glued joints. The glued joints performance it was evaluated in function of the relationship among the values of resistance to traction of the solid wood and the values of resistance to traction with glued wood and rupture way. In agreement with the results it was observed that the glued joints scarf they presented excellent resistance to traction, very close of the resistance of the solid wood; it was also noticed the good acceptance of collage of the wood Jatobá. With relationship the quality of the adhesion, the glued joints of butt and finger, therefore they presented adhesive rupture. The experimental results obtained indicate a good agreement among the theoretical models to evaluate the resistance to the traction and the qualification of the glued joints.

Full textThe development of modern software is a difficult process, there is a high possibility to leave uncorrected mistakes in the software, it would be more precisely to say that it is impossible to make software without bugs. Software testing is maybe the biggest part of development process. The unit testing is very powerful testing. It prevents from defects 20% and more [1]. The quality increase came at a cost of approximately 30% more development time. The main goal is create generator for unit testing. Automated test generator can reduce development time. Unit test generation is based on the OCL (Object Constraint Language) and software static model. OCL eliminate a test oracle problem. Software static model can be UML a class diagrams, but it very complicated approach. We use a reflection technology, because it is more precise and better today. Also OCL constrains are inserted in code.

Full textIn this research paper, it evaluates the benefits achievable from static testing framework by analyzing and transforming the JUnit3.8 source code and static execution of transformed code. Static structure enables us to analyze the code statically during creation and execution of test cases. The concept of research is by now well established in static analysis and testing development. The research approach is also increasingly affecting the static testing process and such research oriented work has proved particularly valuable for those of us who want to understand the reflective behavior of JUnit3.8 Framework.
JUnit3.8 Framework uses Java Reflection API to invoke core functionality (test cases creation and execution) dynamically. However, Java Reflection API allows developers to access and modify structure and behavior of a program. Reflection provides flexible solution for creating test cases and controlling the execution of test cases. Java reflection helps to encapsulate test cases in a single object representing the test suite. It also helps to associate each test method with a test object. Where reflection is a powerful tool to perform potential operations, on the other hand, it limits static analysis. Static analysis tools often cannot work effectively with reflection.
In order to avoid the reflection, Static Testing Framework provides a static platform to analyze the JUnit3.8 source code and transform it into non-reflective version that emulates the dynamic behavior of JUnit3.8. The transformed source code has possible leverage to replace reflection with static code and does same things in an execution environment of Static Testing Framework that reflection does in JUnit3.8. More besides, the transformed code also enables execution environment of Static Testing Framework to run test methods statically. In order to measure the degree of efficiency, the implemented tool is evaluated. The evaluation of Static Testing Framework draws results for different Java projects and these statistical data is compared with JUnit3.8 results to measure the effectiveness of Static Testing Framework. As a result of evaluation, STF can be used for static creation and execution of test cases up to JUnit3.8 where test cases are not creating within a test class and where real definition of constructors is not required. These problems can be dealt as future work by introducing a middle layer to execute test fixtures for each test method and by generating test classes as per real definition of constructors.
